Speaker 3 (02:26):
A lucky pair will be going to the game.

Speaker 1 (02:29):
All right, let's get into this real quick before we
start the show. Yesterday we learned of the passing of
one James Earl Jones. Everybody remembers James Earl Jones. He's
done so much, so much great work from Sandlop bingo lungs,
traveling all stars, but we want you to remember him.

Speaker 3 (02:49):
Let's move us out breathing the light touches. It's all kingdom.

Speaker 4 (02:56):
A king's time as ruler rises and falls like the sun.
One day, Simba, the sun will set on my time
here and will rise with you as the new king, and.

Speaker 5 (03:08):
This will all be mine, everything, everything the light touches.

Speaker 6 (03:15):
What about that shadowing police that's beyond all borders?

Speaker 3 (03:19):
Must never go there, symbol. But I thought a king
can do whatever he wants well this morning, being kingdom
and getting your way all the time.

Speaker 4 (03:27):
That, Simba, everything you see exists together symbol.

Speaker 7 (03:36):
Right.

Speaker 3 (03:37):
I loved lion King.

Speaker 2 (03:39):
I loved it and I'm not ashamed to say that
I cried in Lion King, but I did not cry, Okay,
I did cry from Laughter and Coming to America, because
that was another movie that I felt like he just
shined and he'll forever shine.

Speaker 3 (03:58):
And he was the king that he was.

Speaker 2 (04:01):
He was the king that he was, and and and
you can't forget, Like for all the nerds out there
like me.

Speaker 3 (04:10):
Oh yeah, I know where you're going, Luke. Is that
what it said? I am your father heard Let's let's
hear your best take on that. It's a contest. It's
a James dyl Jones off. We heard, we heard marks.

(04:31):
Give it a go, Luke, I am your father. That's
pretty good. That's pretty good. You sound like hard I went.

Speaker 2 (04:48):
You damn competitors. Let me get Oh, here we go, Luke.
Are you sound like you need a losson?

Speaker 3 (04:59):
You said? I like you going through Pubert. I'm trying
to get my man.

Speaker 2 (05:04):
What a special human man like you know, he's one
of those that will forever.

Speaker 3 (05:10):
Be missed.

Speaker 2 (05:12):
I don't know if there will ever be anybody that
Morgan Freeman, I think is the closest thing to the
voice of God.

Speaker 3 (05:19):
On on screen and on radio.

Speaker 2 (05:23):
Man, just an unbelievable voice and for generations now, like
he's been kind of the narrator to everything that you know,
we looked at in sports like who's gonna fill that
void man in sports? Like he did so many like
Howard Coselles deal like, I mean, it's godlye he's next up.

Speaker 1 (05:46):
Well, you know you said, and you look at what
he was able to do, and you know you did
Darth Vader and we just heard him in Simba.

Speaker 5 (05:55):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (05:56):
He's done a lot of baseball movies from Sandlot to
Field Dreams to also being Golong and the Traveling All Stars.
He's just a great, great actor. And let's not forget
about Roots, you know, and all the movies that he
was in. So uh, it's a great loss for those

(06:17):
who were close to him, and it's a great loss
for those that admired him for his work and his
philanthropy that he was doing too. So ninety three years
old something great. He lived a great life. We don't
know what the you know, the back end of his
life was all about, but during his time he fought
the fought. He fought the fight and was able to

(06:40):
bring up other actors with him.

Speaker 3 (06:42):
And so.

Speaker 1 (06:45):
When we heard the news yesterday, we were just like, Wow,
I just can't believe it, can't believe. So that's how
we gonna open the show today.

Speaker 3 (06:53):
We're gonna talk about James Earl Jones.

Speaker 1 (06:55):
But I also wanted to get into that game last night,
the San Francisco forty nine ers. What the forty nine
ers were able to do, and that is to get
a victory over the New York Jets.

Speaker 3 (07:06):
The Jets were welcoming back.

Speaker 1 (07:09):
Aaron Rodgers, but it just didn't look Aaron Rodgers still
didn't look the way that I thought he should.

Speaker 2 (07:16):
Yeahs old. They didn't do a lot of rollouts like
I thought they would, and.

Speaker 3 (07:20):
I don't think they could.

Speaker 2 (07:22):
You know.

Speaker 1 (07:22):
I just think because of what I talked about yesterday,
with the way I saw Kirk Cousins throwing the football,
he did not look like he was really driving off
of that back leg.

Speaker 3 (07:35):
He didn't look like he had that pure power.

Speaker 1 (07:38):
And the other part of it is a lot of
these guys didn't play in the preseason, right, so the
timing the adrenaline during the scrimmages is totally different than
the adrenaline in the game once you're playing against other
people that are coming to get you, and the scrimmages
they can't hit you.

Speaker 3 (07:55):
You still ain't under pressure, right, You really know they
can't here exactly.

Speaker 1 (07:59):
So you look at those types of movements and I'm
just curious to how much time is preparation that you
would need as a pro, right, like you've been around
a game for a long time. And so watching him,
watching the way that he moved, watching the way that
Kirk Cousins moved, I'm just curious to the fact that

(08:21):
did they rush themselves? Is this something that he probably
needed to get more reps in? But the forty nine
Ers win thirty two to nineteen. Rock Perdy looked sharp. Mason,
the running back who will get into him a little
bit later, had a big game Georgia Tech. And by
the way, as soon as Jordan Mason got his chance

(08:43):
to play, I saw Ta shar Choice post about him.
He said, yeah, Buddy Finna eat, Buddy Finna eat because
to Shark Choice obviously was the running backs coach to
at Georgia Tech when he was there, so he knew
that the dude was gonna go for for what seven

(09:04):
one hundred and forty seven yards on twenty eight carries.
He said he walked over to Christian McCaffrey after the
game and was like, bro, I don't know how you
do it, and just think about it. That wasn't even
all the carries and receptions and things out of the
backfield that were going on at Christian McCaffrey, who ended
up setting now helped me and my fantasy team, So
I was good with that. But when we come back,

(09:24):
we're gonna hear from coach Sark and a couple other
players about their time from in the Big House, and
Joe Cook will join us at seven forty Inside Texas,
We're just getting started on the morning kickoff right here

Speaker 3 (18:40):
All right, let's get into this.

Speaker 1 (18:41):
Yesterday coach Sark got a chance to meet with the
media after their trip to Ann Arbor, and needless to say,
he was very excited about his team, but he also
understands there's a lot of work to be done.

Speaker 22 (18:54):
First of all, I want to give a big thank
you to Michigan and their hospitality. What a great environment
to for that game, and I thought it was a
great experience for our fans, for our players, uh, for
such a big time college atmosphere, and just looking around
in pregame warm ups at the amount of the enormity
of people on the field and high level people in

(19:16):
college game day and Fox Big newon kick being on
the field was a tremendous environment.

Speaker 3 (19:20):
I was really proud of our players.

Speaker 22 (19:23):
For the poison composure they they played within the game,
and I thought the first drive was kind of indicative
of that, where we were stubbing our own toes with
you know, a couple of the penalties, but then rebounding
and getting third down conversions, throwing the touchdown pass, getting
a holding penalty, uh, missing the field goal, But through

(19:43):
all that, we never wavered, you know, and we went
and I think we scored on four consecutive drives. Uh,
and really outgained them almost nearly three hundred yards I
think to about ninety or so yards there in the
first half. So I just that that to me was
indicative of the poise and composure that we played in
the game. I definitely thought we played a physical brand
of football. We were not perfect. There was definitely missed

(20:05):
assignments and different things in our end that we have
to get cleaned up. We are not a finished product
by any means, but definitely proud of our guys for
going into to that environment, playing the way that we
played together as one as a team. And then, you know,
post game two to celebrate with Longhorn Nation in that
stadium and what a turnout you know, I know our

(20:26):
reference this in the postgame presser, but what a turnout,
you know. To to hear Texas fightight echoing through that
iconic stadium and to sing the eyes with with everybody
with our team was definitely a special moment, so one
one that will definitely hold on to for a while.
But that being said, moving forward, we got to continue
some of the things that I think we've done really well.

(20:47):
I think from a situational standpoint, we're doing some things
really well. Obviously, I think we've had eleven trips into
the red area. I think we scored ten touchdowns in
a field goal. I think we're plus four on the
season right now in the turnover margin. So we're taking
care of the ball, third down rate on offense, third
down rate on defense, or both where we want to be.
So we're doing some of the things in the situational

(21:09):
stuff really well, which is in turn helping us from
a complimentary football standpoint. But there are things that we
need to clean up still too, and you know, like
for a couple of those kickoffs to get out. You know,
our kickoff coverage union is something we take a lot
of pride in. Uh So we got some things to
clean up there, and then and then dealing you know,
dealing with when we get leads, you know, having that

(21:30):
ability to to really put people away late and getting
the quarterback on the ground. You know, we did a
great job of creating some interceptions and fumbles, which was good,
but now hopefully we can get some sack fumbles and
things of that nature. And then you know, possessing the
football in the fourth quarter. So we're always challenging our guys.
We're always trying to find ways to continue to get better,
but again, proud of our guys and and heading.

Speaker 1 (21:50):
Into this week, and that's the thing. He was proud
of everyone. And now they're getting back to the focus.
But one of the things that you have to continue
to do is you got to play with attitude. And
that is something that this team is really working hard on,
is playing with attitude.

Speaker 22 (22:10):
LE say this like I get confidence from them, And
what gives me confidence is the way they prepare, the
way they practice. I get confidence in the way they
talk to one another, the way they interact with one another.
I get confidence from them, the way they interact with
me before and after meetings or on the practice field.
That that gives me the confidence. You know, like we're

(22:30):
in a good frame of mind. And if I feel
like they're in a good frame of mind, I'm in
a really good frame of mind.

Speaker 23 (22:35):
And I'm not.

Speaker 22 (22:36):
I'm not a big you know, screamer and yeller all
practice long. But I think the players understand me enough
to know. Now that's like when I do raise my voice,
when I do get on somebody for something, we.

Speaker 3 (22:48):
Got to get it fixed.

Speaker 22 (22:49):
Because coach is only saying that right now because it's
important to him. And so when they give me that
confidence that man, we are in the right frame of
mind executing the small details of what we need to do.

Speaker 3 (23:03):
I feel really good too.

Speaker 22 (23:04):
But I want them to get confidence from me, like
I want them to know I believe in them, and
so I think it is a two way street.

Speaker 3 (23:11):
But I think.

Speaker 22 (23:12):
You've got to play this game with with supreme confidence
and belief in what you're trying to do.

Speaker 3 (23:18):
Man, that speaks in volume.

Speaker 2 (23:21):
You know to be able to one have the aggressive
nature to where you want to attack, but you also
make mistakes and sometimes you need to be corrected.

Speaker 3 (23:33):
And communication is paramount.

Speaker 2 (23:37):
But at times you gotta raise your voice. But if
your voice is raised all the time, then it's blocked out.
Then people tune out. They just all right, all right,
all right. And I do it too, so I have
to temper myself. But to hear that is not just me,

(23:58):
that you know other people going through the same thing,
gives me more reason to state.

Speaker 3 (24:05):
Of course.

Speaker 2 (24:06):
I love hearing how he presented that and how he
gets the inspiration from his team to give them more
if they need more.

Speaker 1 (24:16):
Right, And one of the biggest things that coach Sark
continues to point out, and this was a great question
that was asked, what is your your formula for success?
And coach Sark, I was shocked. He gave them the
most honest answer. And that's one of the things that
I appreciate, but I appreciate about him, is his honesty.

Speaker 3 (24:37):
Yeah, I mean, I don't. I don't think it's like
rocket science.

Speaker 13 (24:41):
You know.

Speaker 3 (24:41):
We just believe in what we believe in.

Speaker 22 (24:44):
And it's not something that one week it's one thing,
the next week it's the next and you know, we
talked about something the night the first night of training camp,
and then we never bring it up again. Like there's
things that we believe in. We believe in an attacking
style of football, you know, whether it's you know, offensive
play calling, defensive play calling, or special teams. We like
to go after people. You know, we believe in a

(25:06):
physical game. You know that there's not it's not a
secret to how we play. We want to play a
physical brand of football. We believe in speed and we
try to let our speed run fast, whether it's on
special teams, on offense, or on defense. And then we
believe in being a smart football team, like we work
on the special situations of the game. Every week, you know,
we do a meeting just dedicated to what we call

(25:28):
situational Masters every Friday for twenty minutes, I show living
examples from other games and other teams of where blunders
occur or where a team executes something really well, because
I want our players to be at their best when
their best is needed in those critical moments. And so
we have a formula that that we think works. And
then there's a style of play and a brand of

(25:51):
football which we take a lot of pride in playing.
And when we get ourselves to that point and then
we go do it. The challenge for us is to
then go record again the next week, irregardless of the opponent.
And that's no disrespect to anybody we play. The opponent
is irrelevant if we prepare to the standard that we
have created for ourselves. And like I tell the players

(26:12):
all the time, I don't hold them to a standard
that I don't think they're capable of.

Speaker 3 (26:17):
They've shown me what they're capable of. That's the standard.

Speaker 22 (26:20):
My goal for them is to try to exceed that
standard so I can recreate a new standard for them.

Speaker 3 (26:25):
To strive for. That's it. It's nothing really more than that,
and to our players credit.

Speaker 2 (26:31):
I think that reminds me of the scene in Hoosiers
Yep when the coach Gene Hackman, goes in. He talls, look,
I can go give them the playbook. I could tell
them what play we gonna run. If we run it
to the best of our ability, like our life depends
on it, they can't stop it. That's the aggressive nature
and tendency that I feel like he's trying to get

(26:54):
across right there, and he says something that really hit
home with me, right he said, I show my team blunders.
Sometimes you can't just learn from success. You can't learn
from the how you do it right. You have to
learn from how you do it wrong, what not.

Speaker 3 (27:16):
To do right.

Speaker 2 (27:17):
And and for him to show them, hey, we don't
need to do this, this.

Speaker 3 (27:22):
Is how it starts, and then this is the end result.

Speaker 2 (27:25):
Right then people go, oh, man, I don't want to
be that guy.

Speaker 1 (27:29):
But then he also makes it a point if something works,
he uses that as well, like that reverse that xavier'
Worthy ran in the game for Kansas City where they
pitched it back to him and he scored the touchdown.
That's the exact same play, but on the different side.
For Ryan Wingo, right ran the same play, saw it.

(27:51):
Drew it up. Hey, guys, let's run this for them
to be able to knock that out quickly and be
able to have the success.

Speaker 2 (27:59):
Yeah, I know that I seen you plays. Yeah, our
our video play or even sometimes we've been sitting here
in the in the in the in an offense if
you will, and I'll draw plays up and then I'll
say what you think about this?

Speaker 3 (28:15):
Like That's how his mind works too. He's always worked.

Speaker 2 (28:18):
He's always Workingwomball is always on his mind, like, and
he brought in guys during the off season that he
admired the way that they call play.

Speaker 3 (28:27):
Sean McVay has been here.

Speaker 1 (28:29):
He's a friend of his, h Kyle Shanahan, friend obviously
Texas Longhorn, a bunch of other offensive minded guys that
he has respect for. And they they share him, they
share them Cliff Kingsbury, they share the playbook. So it's
a lot of Okay, what did you see here? How
did you get there? But the thing about it is

(28:52):
the team has to execute it. But with the success
of being the number two team in the country now,
the main thing that Sark needs to be ready for
is how do you prevent your team from being relaxed
and you know, not coming in and working as hard twofold.

Speaker 22 (29:07):
I think one is we try to hold ourselves to
our standard. You know, we have a saying around here
the standard is a standard and a jersey, a helmet,
a stadium doesn't dictate how we prepare, you know, we
we dictate how we prepare. I think that's the first part.
But the second part is human nature is human nature.
And so what did I do this morning? I walked
him through the Notre Dame scenario of them going into

(29:29):
college station a week ago and winning that game and
being anointed top five team, and then the college football
playoff and a week later losing to Northern Illinois. And
so I showed that clip of the field goal, and
I showed the clip of Northern Illinois storm in the
field this morning as a good reminder that nothing. We
are entitled to nothing. You know, we're capable of anything.

(29:50):
We've got a really good team, but we're entitled to nothing.
We're gonna earn everything we get. We're gonna have to
earn the victory here Saturday night.

Speaker 3 (29:57):
I'm so excited b to put a jersey on.

Speaker 1 (30:01):
Well, here's the thing for me, I was going to say,
but here's the thing for me that I'm really buying
into is because coach Sark is telling us this, right,
but we see it in the player's action that that
is everything to me.

Speaker 3 (30:19):
Because what coach Sark is telling.

Speaker 1 (30:21):
Us, I know he's talking to his team, but they
still got to go out and do that. I can't
tell you how many times he's come into a presser
in talking about the work that the team is putting forward,
like he said, well, if I raised my voice, get
it corrected.

Speaker 3 (30:40):
They believe in that.

Speaker 1 (30:42):
And the picture that I keep seeing is them walking
off the field last year against Washington.

Speaker 3 (30:50):
That's all I keep envisioning.

Speaker 1 (30:53):
And the fact that that obsession that I have about
being obsessed.

Speaker 3 (30:59):
Is translating to that team and that is all you
could ask for.

Speaker 1 (31:04):
You may not win every single ball game, and I
know fans are like, wait, wait, hard what you're talking about,
But the effort that they are putting out for him
is telling you that they believe in what he's preaching
to them, and that that that is deep when it's
everybody that has hello, can we get a little some
some I know Texas One fund is talking about past

(31:26):
the collection paint right now.

Speaker 3 (31:28):

It is Tuesday, It is seven forty and whoever you
have been listening to, now is the time for you
to listen to my guy, Joe Cook inside Texas. You
can follow him on social media at Joseph Cook eighty nine. Joe,
you got an opportunity to go up to the Big
House and watch the Texas Longhorn win in dominant fashion.

(41:13):
I was telling some folks yesterday that that game could
have been a lot worse than what we saw yesterday.
What was your big moment at the Big House where
you knew Texas was going to be in control. Was
it the fact that so many Longhorn fans were in
the house.

Speaker 25 (41:31):
Oh? Man, that was awesome to see.

Speaker 33 (41:32):
And it was really cool to see just because all
the Michigan fans were wearing maize, so the orange just
decently contrasting, and so you could tell that there.

Speaker 25 (41:41):
Are a could amount of Longhorn fans there.

Speaker 33 (41:43):
I thought the moment that game was over was when
I think Alex Orgy got stuff on that third down.

Speaker 25 (41:50):
I think it was fourteen to three at that.

Speaker 33 (41:51):
Point, and that's when I realized that that Michigan team
could not score fast enough in order to catch up
with Texas, even if Texas basically just kept getting in
field goal range and kicking field goals. That Michigan team,
I heard a stat I think from a different podcast,
that they had the lead for ninety five percent of
the snaps last year, which is a credit to them,

(42:13):
but says how they want to play the game. They're
not good at playing from behind with the quarterback situation
they have, so once it got to fourteen to three,
and if you want to be a little bit more charitable,
seventeen to three.

Speaker 25 (42:24):
That's when I knew it was.

Speaker 33 (42:25):
Over, just because that Michigan offense in that form, with
the way that Texas defense was playing, communicating, playing the run,
they weren't going to be able to score two touchdowns
in succession in quick order to get back into that
football game.

Speaker 1 (42:40):
Joe, I also wanted to ask you this because you
just brought it up that Texas secondary much maligned last
year because of the attempts that were against them, but
you get a chance to see some playmakers in the backhand. Obviously,
Andrew mccooba has been getting a lot of love because
of his performance, but a guy that I've been really
impressed with since day one was Derek Williams. Derek Williams

(43:04):
just seems to have a nose for the football and
when he gets there, he lays a hat on you
every time.

Speaker 33 (43:12):
Yeah, he was actually in the starting lineup instead of Macouba,
a switch from game one. I think part of that
has to do with Derek Williams being one of the
better tacklers on the football team.

Speaker 25 (43:24):
He did that really well, but.

Speaker 33 (43:25):
He also got involved in the past game, you know,
making that interception, coming up with a big play a
couple of times during that game. So I've been a
big fan of Derek Williams since that Baylor game last
year where he really.

Speaker 25 (43:37):
Stepped up to the plate.

Speaker 33 (43:39):
There's you know, he had some freshman mistakes, but now
he's really stepped up. And you know, that whole secondary
played a good game. Michael taff saved four points. They
didn't even try today. Baron In, Malik Muhammad, Jalen Gilbert
I think led the team and tackles, and Jelani McDonald,
who had for the most part, you know, as far
as we knew, been getting a lot of snats at

(43:59):
safety throughout the course of the preseason. They basically devoid
him at that nickel spot, kind of giving them something
right in between that four two, five and four three.
Very very interesting personnel. Someone who was taught to be
a linebacker coming out of high school, played a little
bit of it there, did a good job there. So
they that whole secondary has been playing extremely well. And

(44:21):
you know they choked out any any any opportunity Michigan
try to take to get a big play.

Speaker 25 (44:27):
That secondary wouldn't letting it happen.

Speaker 2 (44:29):
Joe Baron also was in you know, sometimes in and
out of the wrong place at the wrong time, but
you could tell that he wasn't used to play in
that position. But the thing that I'm asking you about
is did you see the video the quarterback after the game,
how he said that if this happened, and that happened,
and maybe if this might happen, possibly they let us

(44:54):
off the hook, and that they gave us this game.
Do you think he got concussed early and just they
didn't report it.

Speaker 3 (45:02):
Oh?

Speaker 33 (45:02):
Man, it's the nuts, candies and butts, Right, it's that
type of thing.

Speaker 3 (45:07):
And you know, I.

Speaker 33 (45:09):
Understand partially where he's coming from, just thinking like, if
you're a competitor and you're confident you're playing for the
national championship or you're playing for the national champion, you're
thinking that, you know, if we don't make these mistakes,
we're in this game.

Speaker 25 (45:22):
Well, who forced you to make those mistakes?

Speaker 34 (45:24):
Right?

Speaker 33 (45:25):
Texas was the one who was pushing the pedal to
the medal. Their defensive line was getting penetration, getting sacks.
The offense was executing, you know, getting past guys in
the secondary using speed, to get open, you know, avoiding tackles,
breaking through tackles. Like I from an Amazing Blues perspective,

(45:45):
if you're on that team and you're hearing coach Ron
Moore tell you that in the game, you're like, yeah,
that makes sense, right next week, next week, But who's
the one that's making you do all those mistakes?

Speaker 25 (45:54):
And there was a team in burn orange and why
on Saturday?

Speaker 3 (45:57):
Joe?

Speaker 2 (45:58):
That was one of my favorite sayings of all time.
If if some butts was candy and nuts, we'd all
have a merry Christmas. But to give back to football,
Gibson looked really good in that pistol formation. You think
that Texas is going to deploy the pistol formation more
with him?

Speaker 25 (46:20):
Uh, it's probably a good idea with him.

Speaker 33 (46:23):
I like the idea of giving guys like Blue and
even Quen Travon Wisner the chance to read a little
bit more and see where things are going. But that
pistol it kind of splits the difference. It gives the
running backs a chance to, you know, start getting a
step or two downhill. And when you're Jared Gibson, you

(46:45):
running back everybody thinks is easy.

Speaker 25 (46:47):
But it's not.

Speaker 33 (46:48):
You know, you got to read where lineman's butts are
pointing and who's in what hole and that type of thing.
Uh And you know, getting a guy going downhill and
pointing him in the right direction with a certain type
of runs probably a good thing for him. They won't,
I don't know, overly telegraph it because Start doesn't like
showing off tendencies. But that that that scoring touchdown run

(47:10):
he had, you know, he the blocking scheme pointed him
where to go. He had Jake Majors and I think
Hayden Connor leading the way to get him there.

Speaker 25 (47:18):
He found the right direction and got into the end
zone as a result.

Speaker 33 (47:22):
So maybe that's something they continue to do with him,
but they they'll probably keep it together on a lot
of different standard down looks.

Speaker 2 (47:30):
You shout out then black too eighty one on the
left side of that formation, he stilled that corner out
the defensive end. Every time he put him, hit him
right in the mouth, drove him backwards. So I'm looking
forward seeing that formation a little bit more.

Speaker 25 (47:51):
He had a good one, and the whole tight end
crew obviously had a great game. Gunner hell lean the way,
it's a leading receiver.

Speaker 1 (47:58):
Yeah, we're talking to Jokok of Inside Texas. Make sure
you get over and follow them at Joseph Cook eighty nine,
but you can also.

Speaker 3 (48:05):
Follow them at Inside Texas. I was going to.

Speaker 1 (48:08):
Ask you about Queen Yours and his weekly awards, but
we're up against it, my man. Jake Major's done a
great job and Queen Yours and we'll talk about it
the next time. But as always, man, I appreciate you
joining us today.

Speaker 25 (48:22):
Guys, thank you so much. Appreciate it.

Speaker 1 (48:24):
There is Joe Cook of Inside Texas doing a great
job of reporting. And you know, it's interesting to see
this football team and the trend in which they are
headed in because there's so many different levels that you
can go back and you can look at and find
different things that they've had success in. One of the

(48:46):
main things is the tight end position. We talked about
the back end, but the tight end and the quarterback
in that relationship in which they've had and it's been
a good, good run for all that is been involved
in it. It's a crazy situation, man, when you start
to think about it.

Speaker 2 (49:03):
Hey, an embarrassment of Richards is not something to be
embarrassed about.

Speaker 1 (49:07):
Well, it is when you're embarrassing the other team. That's
what we want to see this week is Texas takes
on UTSA. Make sure you get over there at AM
thirteen hundred for a chance to win and enter the
keyword zone today when we come back, finally, finally, somebody
comes to Dak's defense and I'm gonna leave it after

(49:28):
that because there's no more to talk about right here
on the morning kickoff on sports Radio AM thirteen hundred
The Zone.

This Zone great stuff by Joe Cook from Inside Texas
as he made the trip to the Big House breaking
down the Texas defense and watching how that reacted to everything.

(54:30):
But I want you to check out Chris Carter as
he talked about Dak Prescott the other day with Stephen A.

Speaker 3 (54:36):
Smith, the number one cowboy hater, And I'm.

Speaker 1 (54:39):
Like, you got two playoff victories in eight years, man,
sixty million dollars?

Speaker 3 (54:43):
Sixty million dollars CC.

Speaker 34 (54:45):
Come on, man, if you look at the top ten quarterbacks,
only a handful of them have had playoff success.

Speaker 3 (54:52):
We know Patrick.

Speaker 34 (54:52):
Mahomes, Patrick mahonss only got beaten by a couple people,
one being Joe Burrows.

Speaker 25 (54:57):
Joe Burrow's been the one Super Bowl.

Speaker 3 (54:59):
We know my man in Buffalo.

Speaker 34 (55:00):
People call him this offseason the most overrated player in
the NFL.

Speaker 3 (55:05):
I don't think so. But what makes all these.

Speaker 34 (55:09):
Other players outside Patrick Mahomes deserve their fifty million?

Speaker 25 (55:12):
What Trevor Lawrence?

Speaker 3 (55:13):
What has he done since Clemson? Has he done so?

Speaker 25 (55:16):
Clutched?

Speaker 34 (55:16):
Yeah, he won a eight playoff game, but that is
not the pure measure of a quarterback playing today.

Speaker 3 (55:24):
Toua, what has he done?

Speaker 25 (55:26):
So?

Speaker 34 (55:26):
Now you're going to move the marker because it's Dak
Prescott in the Dallas Cowboys. No, Dak Prescott is a
better quarterback and has proven himself more than those other
guys have.

Speaker 25 (55:36):
And it was his tingue.

Speaker 1 (55:38):
Yep, and he got paid the way he should. As
a matter of fact, his former coach Jason Garrett put
some respect on his name too.

Speaker 17 (55:48):
Back to Dak, he just plays the game at a
high level.

Speaker 26 (55:51):
I hear these clowns on TV say he's overrated, He's
not in the top ten.

Speaker 3 (55:55):
Watch the game.

Speaker 26 (55:57):
He's an incredible football player, great leader for.

Speaker 1 (55:59):
That team, and I'm glad it's over. I'm not gonna
throw it out there no more. I'm not even gonna
throw yes to all you haters that are out there,
because he's gonna play a bad game and all of
a sudden, everybody's gonna come out.

Speaker 3 (56:11):
See. See, that's why you shouldn't give him the money.
Let me tell you something.

Speaker 1 (56:16):
Go look at every NFL team across the country right now.
Look at the Pittsburgh Steelers, former champions. They are struggling
to find a quarterback. They even got a Super Bowl
winning quarterback on their staff, can't get on the field
because he's dealing.

Speaker 3 (56:32):
With a calf injury.

Speaker 1 (56:34):
Go look at what the San Francisco forty nine ers
are doing.

Speaker 3 (56:39):
It is not an exact science.

Speaker 1 (56:41):
Both of these quarterbacks are doing the exact same thing,
and Rock Party is going to get his money.

Speaker 3 (56:49):
Rock Party was that mister irrelevant.

Speaker 1 (56:51):
Dak was a fourth round quarterback pick and they're starting
in the NFL on teams that are good. Then you
go look at Trevor law Lawrence. Everybody threw Baker Mayfield
off to the side. Now Baker Mayfield earned his contract
and now is leading Tampa Bay. It is funny to
me how everybody thinks the quarterback's position is the end

(57:15):
all be all, but when you got a good one,
you're looking for the next one.

Speaker 3 (57:20):
And it just doesn't make any sense to me.

Speaker 1 (57:24):
All of those teams that won Super Bowls had good
defenses too, so you can't always put it on the
quarterback for every single thing that goes right or wrong
with the team.

Speaker 3 (57:35):
Coach Shark said it yesterday.

Speaker 1 (57:37):
Coach Shark said, it's crazy to me that the quarterback
get all the praise. It's a team effort when they win,
but when they lose, it's the quarterback.

Speaker 2 (57:45):
Fall right, Like the all time greatest haters at played quarterback?
Was Troy Aikman, Why are you drafting another quarter quarterback?

Speaker 3 (57:58):
Of course, of course, give me some twoes work with.
Who was second?

Speaker 25 (58:02):
Who?

Speaker 3 (58:03):
All right? Come on now, Aaron Robbins, Aaron.

Speaker 2 (58:07):
Like, why are you drafting Jordan Love? We need help
at receiver and tight end. There's guys that have been
great quarterbacks. But like Belichick is the one that really
started that. He said, every year we're gonna draft a quarterback,

(58:29):
maybe two, because we need to find That's the hardest
science of trying to find a player in the NFL.
You can find a defensive end, a defensive tackle, a
corner of a wide receiver, a running back.

Speaker 3 (58:45):
Agreed, you can find them. Look at San Francisco last night. Yep.

Speaker 1 (58:50):
You gotta have a good drafting process, and they Cowboys
have a good drafting process. The only process that they
suck at is drafting backup quarter And everybody loved Cooper Rush.

Speaker 3 (59:02):
Everybody kept talking about with Cooper Rush, got to go
both of them.

Speaker 1 (59:06):
Trey Lance, you can't play with Trey Lance for a
whole year.

Speaker 3 (59:09):
You can't play with Man.

Speaker 1 (59:11):
You can't play with Cooper Rush for a whole year.
Those are the things that I continue to try to say. Listen,
I like my weekends where I got both my teams
that win.

Speaker 3 (59:21):
I love it when both my teams win on the weekend.

Speaker 1 (59:25):
Hey, we're just getting started here on our number one
of the morning kickoff. Coming up next hour, number two,
