Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's Thursday, so you know exactly what that means. Eight
seventeen gives us an opportunity to have our special segment
called Legends of the Locker Room. In what better way
than to bring in a legend from the Forty Acres
and NFL. He played ten seasons as a linebacker in
the NFL, but when he was on the Forty Acres,
(00:22):
he became a national champion. He won the Bronco, the
Girsky Award, he won the Ted Hendricks Award, the Lombardi,
the Bill Willis. He was a unanimous Soul American Defensive
Player of the Year after year after year, and of
course he's won to kick it. He is our guy.
Brian Rack, Paul Rack, how you doing, buddy, I'm good man.
Speaker 2 (00:45):
How you boys doing. I'm doing really good. We're excited
to burp you on. Man.
Speaker 3 (00:51):
You wouldn't know this with all the awards that he
that he won.
Speaker 2 (00:57):
Brian came to my.
Speaker 3 (00:59):
Chair the event and uh, and I you know, people
always judged me by this dumbbell that I lifted. That
was you know, they said it was like Thor's hammer.
And there I've seen hundreds of strong men not being
able to lift this dumb ball off the ground. Brian
was able to pick up my dumbbell off the ground.
Speaker 2 (01:22):
Oh, I.
Speaker 4 (01:26):
Remember that I got I got a little left in
the take, not too much, but I.
Speaker 2 (01:30):
Got a little bit.
Speaker 1 (01:32):
Hey, thanks for hanging out with me on Saturday. We
had a good time over at HV brought to you
by the folks over at Brown Distributing, And it was
kind of funny. I was listening to some of the
people talk to you about your career and what they
remember about you on the forty Acres but obviously went
in the National Championship and being able to be recognized
(01:54):
for your talent.
Speaker 2 (01:55):
By all those awards.
Speaker 1 (01:56):
The one thing that you kept talking about was like
the brotherhood with the people that were there and how
you got to that point. And this is something that
a lot of folks are looking at this Texas football
team for this season and trying to see if they
have that same thing. But talk about that brotherhood that
you have with all those players there, but then also
what you see from this team.
Speaker 4 (02:18):
Yeah, that's what it's all about when you're trying to
build a team.
Speaker 2 (02:21):
You know, we had our era.
Speaker 4 (02:22):
We had a ton of talent, a ton of people
from all different backgrounds and then we come together. It's
very cliche to say, but it's the truth.
Speaker 2 (02:32):
Man.
Speaker 4 (02:32):
It's like almost like I remember the Titans, type of
type of atmosphere when it comes to building a dynasty,
and that's kind of what we had. You know, we
we had so many, so many great players, man, and
obviously a lot of a lot of us went off
to continue to play football in the National Football League.
And that's kind of what I see with this squad,
(02:53):
as you've seen with that we were that close the
past two years, you know, losing in the semis, but
that you know, it's you can't well on the losses.
You kind of look in the future, look for the
future because a lot of guys, as what we've been seeing,
a lot of guys get drafted because of their talents.
So you'll lose ten, eight to twelve guys per year.
(03:13):
But then you just got to reload the clip. And
that's what these guys been doing. And I'm extremely excited
about what this particular long one team is getting ready
to get ready to accomplish. I'm not too happy about
the number one seed. That's just me personally. I like
playing that underdog role of always liked that, but there's
nothing wrong with it as far as the guys just
(03:35):
got to take care of business.
Speaker 2 (03:37):
So the one thing that I wanted to.
Speaker 1 (03:39):
Ask you about too is you know, they got that
savage over there named Colin Simmons, and you start to
look at his development, and this was a guy that
was very confident when he got in.
Speaker 2 (03:51):
He just wanted to get on the field a little
bit more.
Speaker 1 (03:53):
He talked about now he's getting a lot more burn
he's expected to get a lot more burned.
Speaker 2 (03:58):
But his first.
Speaker 1 (03:59):
Step off that edge is something that you either got
it or you don't, and then you get a chance
to develop it and push it to the next level.
And I think he's one of those guys when you
look at him, do you see a little bit of yourself?
Speaker 2 (04:12):
Yeah, for sure, for sure.
Speaker 4 (04:14):
A lot of people always, you know, when they ask
me questions and things of that next duties, uh, speaking engagements,
you know, they see they said, Colin has a lot
of you, you know what we see with you? And
I was like, yeah, because it's it's something you just
can't teach, you know, you.
Speaker 2 (04:28):
The gout it doing. It's that quick twitch, that great
edge Russians have.
Speaker 4 (04:32):
Man. You can, you can have as many amount of
training as you can, but at the end of the day,
you gotta be born with it. And he's a guy
that was born with it. You know, he's he's a guy,
he's an edge center. It's a guy that can affect
the play each and every time. It's a guy that can, Uh,
it's not just about the sacks man. It's really about,
(04:53):
like I said, affecting the play, affecting what the other
offense is doing. And that's what that's what that guy
can do. And you know, he came out to Gay
as a true freshman and really made a name for himself.
We've had it and I can want to continue to
see his career grow and be one of the best
airs rushers at this university. And he can go off
after they win championships. Obviously we got expectations.
Speaker 3 (05:15):
Brian, have you have you been able to get your
hand on him?
Speaker 4 (05:19):
I have not.
Speaker 2 (05:20):
All I have.
Speaker 4 (05:21):
All I have was conversations. We've had a lot of
conversations throughout even when he's playing. We'll have conversations throughout
on the at the stadiums, throughout practices. But I haven't
been able to really work with him.
Speaker 2 (05:34):
Hopefully maybe something one of these summers we'll get together.
Speaker 3 (05:37):
But no, Brian, you had two moves that they really
really applied now in the NFL STYLEAR game. And I
think that College is adopting some of those moves that
you did. That that one arm stabb that you used
to do, and that two hands that two hands wipe.
I don't know if I've seen College Simmons dude the
(06:01):
two hands swipe, but I've seen him do the stab.
Like man, I'd love to see you get over there
and teaching one of them, teaching that bonus moved.
Speaker 2 (06:10):
Yeah, for sure, for sure. But it's all in due time.
Speaker 4 (06:13):
You know, it all comes, you know, with more experience
and more repetition. You know, it's it's it's it's something
you want. As you keep getting older and more experience
and more reps and more seasons, do you add stuff
to your repertoire, But you never want to take away
from your base.
Speaker 2 (06:28):
And what you like to do.
Speaker 4 (06:29):
You know, I was the speed to power guy, and
then I incorporated the swipe, you know, the stab, the
Jeff step inside out. So it's a lot of things
you start adding to your repertoire.
Speaker 1 (06:41):
As you keep going, we're talking to Brian or Rack
Pop Lifetime Longhorn and one of the coolest brothers out there.
Every time I start talking, I realize my voice is
not as deep as yours, and I'm like, man.
Speaker 2 (06:53):
I got a deep voice.
Speaker 1 (06:54):
I'm like, dog gone, bro, I can't have all this
base up in here.
Speaker 3 (06:57):
But James Earl.
Speaker 4 (06:59):
Jones know it's natural. Man, I've been this waisted three
years over that I've been for a long time. I
need some milk. I need some.
Speaker 2 (07:11):
Exactly.
Speaker 1 (07:13):
Brian getting into this weekend. Obviously the hype as you
talked about being ranked number one, but you were in Columbus,
weren't you that first time they went up there and
made some things that have just that that that was
that's when the run started.
Speaker 2 (07:29):
That's when you knew.
Speaker 1 (07:30):
That you were gonna have a chance to go play
for a national championship. If you could give them these
players one bit of advice of going on into Columbus,
what would that advice be.
Speaker 4 (07:41):
Man, this is gonna be funny, but my biggest advice
is turn off the TVs and get off social media.
Speaker 2 (07:47):
I mean, honestly, that's.
Speaker 4 (07:49):
Kind of when you it's gonna be so much expectations
and so much he says, she says stuff, and you know,
can can they do this?
Speaker 2 (07:59):
Can they do that?
Speaker 4 (08:00):
So my thing is trust the process, trust the game play.
I'll been working extremely hard all all camp, all week preparation,
turn off all the extra distractions, and then once you
go out the Columbus, it's it's it's it's a huge game.
But let's treat it like another game. You know, let's
treat it like we've been at We've been at the
(08:20):
top before. Let's go out there and do our thing.
And I'm not obviously we want our horns to take
care of business. But if they got our number that week,
then they got our number. But at least we can
go in there with the right mentality that we gave
it all and we see what happens. But my biggest take,
which what we did in our past, was we turned
(08:41):
off all distractions and we weren't worrying about predictions.
Speaker 2 (08:44):
And things of that nature. We went out there and
took care of business.
Speaker 3 (08:49):
Mark, you got something, Well, the only thing I got
is right now is as this team mirrors I think
talent wise. You know, you got the big athletic quarterback.
You got the versatility and power and running back. You
got a defense that is swarming and and and it's
(09:09):
got guys that can get off the edge.
Speaker 1 (09:12):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (09:12):
And they got good smart guys in the secondary. Like
do you think that this team kind of mirrors what
y'all did?
Speaker 2 (09:20):
Yeah, for sure, for sure. And that's put it again.
That's that's that's.
Speaker 4 (09:24):
Giving them a lot of preseason praise. They gotta go
out there and perform and execute. But on paper, this
team is very very talented, very talented.
Speaker 2 (09:34):
Man.
Speaker 4 (09:34):
They man, we got the you know, Collor bashes back,
which I'm CJ Box.
Speaker 2 (09:39):
I'm extremely excited about him. I think it's not a lot.
Speaker 4 (09:42):
Of not a lot of talk what it is, but
I think he was a guy that I'm really really
excited to help out arts because you know, it's gonna
be times where you know, archers, you know is gonna
you know, who knows what, who knows what can happen.
It's gonna be a lot of sudden change. It's gonna
be It's no Arch ain't gonna be perfect the whole season,
on whole game. So we're gonna rely on CJ. The defense.
(10:03):
Everybody play their point where we can give the guys
more opportunities to go score the ball, because that's what
you know, that's that's how football game happens. Not everybody
everything's gonna be perfect. But as far as the comparisons,
this team has it all just like we did, and
they can really really finish at the finish line this year.
Speaker 1 (10:21):
Well we're gonna be waiting for them to finish at
that finish line. But it all starts at eleven o'clock
in Columbus.
Speaker 2 (10:28):
You've been there.
Speaker 1 (10:28):
You know what it's like to be in the shoe,
but most importantly, you know what it's like to be
a champion. And we're hopeful that this Texas football team
this season we'll be able to handle their business on
this road to the Promised Land.
Speaker 2 (10:42):
As we'd like to say right there.
Speaker 1 (10:44):
As as always, man, thank you for taking the time.
We appreciate you, Rack, and good luck with your son
in football this weekend and you kick the season off. Man,
it's time to go.
Speaker 2 (10:55):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Son is getting ready for his journey,
his high school journey. So we excited. Got my little
golf clothes on.
Speaker 3 (11:02):
Now, hey, hit the fairways, baby, hit the Fairways baby.
Speaker 2 (11:07):
Hey thanks Ray, appreciate you. Fellas all right,
