Let's just set the locker pay. Let's just shut the locker.
Speaker 1 (00:33):
Pat's again and you know that, Yeah, he contru Mark Henry.
Speaker 3 (00:38):
And welcome back to the morning kickoff right here on
Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred the Zone. You'd heard the
music drop sound That means we are joined with the
Legends of the Locker Room segment by my guy, Cedric Griffin,
former lifetime Longhorn, and he is one of the dopest
dudes that is out there.
Speaker 4 (00:57):
And he's doing things for the community. What's up, Sad.
How you doing, Bro?
Speaker 5 (01:02):
I'm doing pretty good, man. I appreciate you having me on, Mark.
How you doing doing good? Bro?
Speaker 4 (01:08):
We're excited to have you on.
Speaker 3 (01:09):
Man, it's been a moment since I got a chance to.
Speaker 4 (01:11):
Chop it up with you. And I've been watching what you've.
Speaker 3 (01:14):
Been doing, and you're doing a hell of a job
with all these kids and making sure that these kids
understand the steps that they need to take to get
to that next level. Because I was having a conversation
with a buddy of mine yesterday, he said, you know
exactly where you've been, and you can see things around
the corner that the kids hadn't seen yet. So tell
everybody what you're doing and what's going on in said's
(01:37):
world already.
Speaker 5 (01:39):
Man, I've been doing it for quite a while now.
Speaker 2 (01:41):
Man.
Speaker 6 (01:42):
I started use training and doing little au track training
back in twenty sixteen, moved, I moved out here in
Lago Vista and I started my own club.
Speaker 5 (01:52):
It's called No Short Stars.
Speaker 6 (01:54):
And also I'm also the kind of one of the
head coaches at Faith Academy to private school over there
at Marble Falls. So for me, man, it's just kind
of get it back to youth. I'm a big track
guy and I'm not a professional, not no professional coach,
but I have a passion for it and I love
doing it. It's one of the first sports I participated
(02:15):
in and gave me a lot of discipline. So for me,
it's just kind of giving the kids the tools to
kind of be a better athlete.
Speaker 5 (02:22):
And that's kind of how my motto is.
Speaker 6 (02:23):
All Right, I'm trying to build a better athlete and
get kids faster. So I'm doing that out here in
Lacka Vista and out there Mamba Falls.
Speaker 4 (02:30):
I love it. I love it said.
Speaker 7 (02:32):
Is there anything that's better than seeing the light switch
come on for a kid?
Speaker 2 (02:40):
Man?
Speaker 6 (02:40):
I think that's one of the I think that's why
I'm in it, to be honest with you, because that's
kind of what happened to me.
Speaker 5 (02:45):
You know.
Speaker 6 (02:46):
I had some great coaches along the way, some great mentors,
and all it tooks was that one guy to say
one thing to me and then everything just turned on
for me.
Speaker 5 (02:54):
So that's why I do it.
Speaker 6 (02:55):
So, Yes, when that lightbulb turns on for some of
these kids, it's a maze. Need to see their growth.
And that's again, right, Mark, That's why I'm in it.
It's for those light bulb moments for sure.
Speaker 7 (03:06):
What is what is the process that you go through,
uh to reach them? Like I do kids camps And
I remember you talking to my daughter and telling her,
just like hard, hey, let her be a dog because
it's my daughter. You know, I'm like trying to baby
my baby man and and hard and and you both
(03:27):
said the same thing to her, like, no, go out
there and be a killer if you have to. If
that's what you need to do, and that's what makes
you feel good, and then go do it. Like what
what is the processes that you get to a kid?
Is everybody different or do you have a standardized way
that you go about.
Speaker 5 (03:45):
No, So I'm not that guy.
Speaker 6 (03:47):
I'm not going to put everybody in the same box
because that because we're all uniquely different and that's how
God made us.
Speaker 5 (03:52):
So we got to get on that level.
Speaker 6 (03:54):
And for me, I do like I literally get on
one knee on all of my kids.
Speaker 5 (03:58):
If they're six years old.
Speaker 6 (03:59):
I always say, you know, I get eye level to them,
and I like to coach them. I like to figure
out what they're about. I try to learn about them
and then I go from there. So for me, it's
finding out what makes a kid kick, what makes a
kid go, and then getting really really personal with them.
And I do that with all my athletes. I don't
care if I have fifty athletes to two athletes, I'm
(04:20):
gonna get on their level. I'm gonna talk to their parents,
I'm gonna talk to you know, talk to their coaches,
to the teachers, and I'm gonna figure out what that
kid needs and I'm gonna go from there.
Speaker 5 (04:29):
But for me, if.
Speaker 6 (04:31):
I guess I'm gonna, i'm I'm really competitive and that's
my model over here. Man, We're we're trying to be
better athletes. We're trying to we're trying to win. I
know a lot of parents and coaches say, hey, we're
not about winning, we're about development. I'm about both, and
I tell my kids the same thing, right, we're trying
to develop you at the same time.
Speaker 4 (04:48):
Right.
Speaker 6 (04:48):
But if we're out there on that track or we're
out there on the field, we're trying to win and
we're trying to dominate. So that's that's my My My
message to kids is, hey, we're out here trying trying
to kick adds.
Speaker 5 (04:59):
At the end of the day.
Speaker 4 (05:00):
I love it. I love it.
Speaker 3 (05:01):
We're talking to Cedric Griffin. You can follow them. What
is this the Great two three? What's your handle?
Speaker 6 (05:09):
I put that on that, man, because you know, I
tied for Sedgie Griffin, but it sld me.
Speaker 5 (05:13):
Damn Sitdy Griffins out there.
Speaker 6 (05:16):
So yeah, uh Wayne MacGarrett played the Texas and I
liked the number eight man, so like you know, he
made it great, so I called it great. So the
Great eight two three and my number of Minnesota Bikings
with number twenty three as well, So the Great eight
two three fits me.
Speaker 5 (05:36):
And that's kind of what I put it for.
Speaker 4 (05:37):
I love it. I love it.
Speaker 3 (05:38):
I wanted to get back to Texas football. You've seen,
you were there for the glory years, you got national championship,
You've seen what it takes, and now Texas has kind
of transformed back to that time by bringing in your
former coach Dwayne and Keina. But not only that, the
way that coach Shark has kind of embraced the past.
Speaker 4 (06:00):
Want all you guys to be a part of this.
Speaker 3 (06:02):
How good do you feel every weekend watching this team
get after?
Speaker 6 (06:07):
I mean, it's it's awesome to be honest with you.
I love bringing him, bringing in all those recruits. I
love seeing that the winning tradition coming back to Texas,
the atmosphere obviously.
Speaker 5 (06:17):
Right with the ads doing over there.
Speaker 6 (06:20):
So it's incredible to be honest with you, So I
haven't I don't really go to the football games over there.
I like kind of watching them on TV. I to
get my own experience. Uh, so I don't be, you know,
bothered by people or me bothering other people. So I
like to sit back on my couch. But it's awesome.
I'm just gonna be honest with you. So I'm ready
for them to go all the way and try to
win something because I like bragging.
Speaker 5 (06:41):
I like showing off my new T stuff.
Speaker 6 (06:43):
I like wearing my burnt orange every time you in
a car. Every time I walk about, I throw my
hook comes up, so I bleed orange for sure. So
what Sarky is doing over there, it's, uh, it's pretty amazing.
So now all he has to do is bring on
the ship and so that that's that's the last question
right there, no doubt. If you don't bring hoship, you know, hey,
it's all for nothing at.
Speaker 5 (07:03):
The end of the day.
Speaker 7 (07:04):
So how can we read you? Like, what's your social
media handles and all of that.
Speaker 6 (07:09):
I only got one man, I'm on Twitter, so it's
the great A two three man. I'm on Twitter, man,
because it's it's more sports based for me. I like
kind of putting out quotes and stuff like that. I'm
I'm I'm big on kind of being positive. So everything else,
you know, the I G or the I don't know
what I don't I don't even know what the rest
(07:30):
of them are.
Speaker 5 (07:31):
Man, it's not for me.
Speaker 6 (07:32):
So I like to I like to be sports based,
and Twitter does that for me?
Speaker 5 (07:37):
Or excuse me?
Speaker 4 (07:38):
Yeah, well we call them Twitter. I'm gonna call him play,
I'm gonna call him Clay. That's what going with.
Speaker 3 (07:43):
So let me ask you this, your son is, your
sons have been doing some outstanding work and getting some recognition.
Speaker 4 (07:51):
What's the latest on.
Speaker 3 (07:52):
The recruiting trail and how how are things shaken out?
Speaker 6 (07:56):
Well, one of my boys, Wade, uh, you know that.
Speaker 5 (07:59):
That's that's my first that's my first born.
Speaker 2 (08:01):
You know.
Speaker 6 (08:01):
He won state you know, last year and this here
as well, and the hurdles in the two hundred. So
he's off the Arizona already and and that's where he's
at right now.
Speaker 5 (08:12):
So he's he's out there having a good time. So far.
Speaker 6 (08:14):
I can tell he's loving it and it's just getting
that college experience. So his recruiting is done right now,
so it's it's no more of me trying to blast
out his sam.
Speaker 5 (08:24):
He's uh, he's on his own now. So whatever he's
does that from from this going on is all on him.
Speaker 2 (08:30):
Uh.
Speaker 6 (08:31):
My middle boys, Cedric my name, Uh, he's gonna be a.
Speaker 5 (08:35):
Scene this year.
Speaker 6 (08:36):
I think he's he's taking a couple of visits to
Texas Tech for for some camps. I think he's going
off to Colorado State. I think it's I believe this
weekend as well. Uh, he's been in Texas Tech. So
he's a little underrecruited right now, but he's he got
started late in the game. But you know, he's my
rise at the end of the day. He's my dark horse,
(08:58):
I really believe. So, like once he catches fire. You know,
he's six four, you know, about one hundred and eighty
five pounds right now. He's a striker, very very aware
of kid like I mean, out of both my boys,
and I don't mean to say it about Sway, but
he has the most awareness, said he does just about
having football like you out there, and because he started
at a quarterback and I wanted him to be quarterback,
(09:19):
but you know, he wanted to follow daddy and follow
big brothers. So he wanted to play safety in the corner,
so that that's what he did. But he's doing well.
I think I think he's gonna have a big season
this year.
Speaker 4 (09:30):
And you can't be mad at that though. I mean, man,
that's nice.
Speaker 6 (09:36):
I'm not mad at it, right, But you know, as
you know, as I always tell my kids, man, I
can see what y'all are going to be and at
the end of the day, and I just want him
to trust me on that. But he's developing into a
great DV And I'm, like I said, I'm not mad
at it because I like the dB position, like I
like what we're all about. And he has personality for
(09:57):
a defensive back as well. So and as coach Keen
I always said, right, he's one of those big, bad
Wilson in the middle of the field and he will
come strike you.
Speaker 5 (10:05):
He will go get the balls in the air. So
I'm looking for big things out of m this year
for sure.
Speaker 3 (10:09):
Well said, I know we don't talk as much as
we used to, but I want you to know I'm
very proud of you. I'll see what you're doing out there.
Continue the good work and continue to spread that knowledge
that you have out there because a lot of times
people take it for granted, but there's always somebody watching
you and always looking to try to find that knowledge,
and if you can bring it out of those kids,
(10:31):
that's the most important part. So keep up the good
work and much success, bro.
Speaker 5 (10:36):
Man, I appreciate just having me on to be honest
with you, man, and listen.
Speaker 6 (10:39):
As long as I got air my lungs, man, I
can walk around. I'm gonna be with these kids because
it keeps me young at the end of the day.
It keeps me knowing what's going on, and I love
doing it, honestly, So it's a pleasure, man, So Mark,
I appreciate it.
Speaker 5 (10:53):
Mike.
Speaker 3 (10:53):
That's what's up, all right, Man, Be easy, man, and
I'll get you back on again when we get.
Speaker 4 (10:57):
Closer to the football season.
Speaker 3 (10:59):
Already, all right, there is lifetime Longhorn and one of
the coolest brothers out there, my god, Cedric Griffin.
Speaker 4 (11:07):
Peace.
Speaker 3 (11:08):
Bro, have a good one. When we come back. We'll
have our guy Mark Henry bringing you his world's strongest
take right here on the morning kickoff on sports Radio
AM thirteen hundred The Zone.
Speaker 2 (11:20):
