Speaker 3 (04:03):
That's all you gotta do.

Speaker 1 (04:04):
All right, let's get into it, because the Texas Longhorns
handled their business for their final non conference matchup before
they head into this week's bye week and then October
the fourth, they will be taking on the Florida Gators
in Gainesville. And I wanted to pose this question out
there because one of the things that I've seen over

(04:25):
the internet, and this is pretty much the world that
we live in at this particular moment, It's interesting to
me when people say, well, you played X team right,
Like that's the thing that kind of bothers me because
if let's say Texas did not go out and play

(04:48):
well finally where a complete ball game was being played.
If they do not go out and play well, what
is the first thing that people say, Well, you didn't
play well against this team, or you look terrible, you know,
like arch Manning, he is terrible, he didn't.

Speaker 3 (05:06):
Do well well. Now he goes out puts up the game.

Speaker 1 (05:10):
Of his career thus far right, and now people are like, well,
you did it against this team, right, And that can't
be true to a certain extent. But if he would
have struggled, if he would have struggled, what would America
have said that?

Speaker 2 (05:25):
You can't have your cake and eat it too. That's
what it sounds like to me too. Like the people
that are Arch haters or Texas haters, they come out
of the closet.

Speaker 3 (05:37):
On two occasions.

Speaker 2 (05:39):
They come out when Texas fails, when a man is
down and you want to kick him while they're down,
or you exceed the expectation of what that player or
what that team can do, and then you try to
tear him down. That's the nature of haters. That's why
they're called haters. Let him hate, I hate hard, You

(06:02):
get hit all you want to, as long as we
get that done.

Speaker 1 (06:05):
They hate so much that now Texas, who was number
seventh ranked team went going into last week going into
the game, now have dropped to number ten because I
don't know why. They finally go out and beat somebody down.
And I'm fine with it. Stay right there, that's fine.
It's better be as loud when when Texas does get

(06:25):
back to where the expectations were coming into the city.

Speaker 3 (06:29):
Don't jump on the bandwagon.

Speaker 2 (06:30):
Then I don't want to hear none of y'all fine bomb,
Well what's my guy, stephen A.

Speaker 3 (06:36):
Smith? I don't want to hear nothing, not ten you
hear me? Well.

Speaker 1 (06:41):
The interesting part about it all is something that we
talked about at our I mean at our tailgate long
Longhorn game day. We talked about Texas being inefficient in
scoring drives.

Speaker 3 (06:54):
Scoring on their first drive. Well, scratch that off.

Speaker 1 (06:57):
Texas went out and handled handled that on the first
drive and can pretty much control the clock in the
first quarter. We also thought about Gerck Jerrick Gibson, what
is baby Ryano going to be able to do?

Speaker 3 (07:11):
Well?

Speaker 1 (07:11):
He scored the first touchdown, a thirteen yard Russian touchdown.
But you also got to give credit to where credit
is due. That defensive team has finally finally took the
step that they needed to and recording a shutout for
the first time in a long time at the University
of Texas.

Speaker 3 (07:32):
But when you start to look at who.

Speaker 1 (07:34):
The playmakers are, they're pretty consistent every game. You know,
it's kind of funny because you don't hear Anthony Hill's
name near as much as you once did, but he
is creating havoc every single time you hear the name
ty Anthony Smith, you hear the name Leannga Lafoul.

Speaker 3 (07:55):
He's been there very consistent.

Speaker 1 (07:56):
But the one thing that we always talk about is
who else is going to step up? Coach Shark played
seventy five players in the game on Saturday, amazing. Seventy
five players got a chance to play, including his son Brady,
who ended up getting to tackle as well. So you

(08:18):
understand that there's a process, there's work that's been done.
We talk about DeAndre Moore coming back from his injury,
his concussion, played well, looked good. But the story continues
to be, all right, what is this offense gonna be?
But Sark said he gave credit to his defensive players
that they never get upset about the offensive struggles.

Speaker 3 (08:41):
Yeah, you know, I think.

Speaker 4 (08:44):
I think the offense really respects our defense. They respect
him for the way they prepare, they respect him for
the way they practice. They were also learned to respect
him for how much fun they have and their ability
to make their plays when their moment. Kane and it
was a good learning lesson and we talked about that
on Monday earlier in the week about the style of

(09:06):
play and how we want to play the game. But
also credit our defensive players. Never once did I hear
one of those guys moan and groan about what's going
on on offense.

Speaker 3 (09:15):
It was picking those guys up.

Speaker 4 (09:17):
It was going over to Arch, it was it was
going over to you know, it was Brandon Baker or
Ryan Wingo, whoever. It was picking those guys up. And
that's a sign of a great team, you know. Never
through this, you know, a couple of weeks stretch where
we just couldn't get going offensively, did we get fragmented.
I think what it did was bring us closer together,
and so I credit the defense, but I do think

(09:38):
it was helpful for the offense and myself knowing like, hey,
those guys are holding it down right now over there.
We just we just got to get going here offensively
and we will allowed me to stay aggressive to know
that they could kind of back me up a little
bit if we did go forward on a fourth down
and didn't make it that those guys could go out.

Speaker 3 (09:55):
There and hold down the fort.

Speaker 4 (09:57):
So I think there's probably you know, there's a lot
of credit given to the coaches and the players on
the defensive.

Speaker 3 (10:02):
Side of the ball.

Speaker 4 (10:04):
But I think more than anything is I think there's
a level of respect from our offensive players or offensive
coaches for what those guys are doing right now on defense, and.

Speaker 3 (10:11):
That defense is suffocating.

Speaker 1 (10:13):
You guy, Colin Simmons got to the quarterback, he got
himself a sack. Brad Spence, one of the transfers, came in,
got himself a sack. Landon Jackson came in, got himself
a sack. So you start to see what happens with
the pressure that is being put on the on the
offense of the opponent. But this offense continues to play well.

(10:37):
And one of those guys that played well was arch Manning,
but he got in a little bit of trouble after
his school scoring his touchdown.

Speaker 2 (10:47):
Yeah, he couldn't get back Leian Zones.

Speaker 3 (10:50):
Probably a little much there. My mom was pretty mad
about that.

Speaker 6 (10:53):
Well, I'm a sure, but I think it's some built
up frustration the past few weeks.

Speaker 1 (10:57):
And the thing about it is he he has every
right to say that. He has every right to say
I was frustrated over the last two weeks. You know
why because all these people continue to throw daggers at him. Yeah,
are we critical of him, Absolutely, he needs to play better.
But you got a chance to see him throw the

(11:18):
deep ball looked a lot better. You got a chance
to see him throw some crossing routes looked a lot better.
And you got a chance to see him run the
football in an effective manner.

Speaker 3 (11:30):
And for those that are questioning him walking.

Speaker 1 (11:32):
Over the guy, if you go back and look earlier
in the game, dude made a tackle on him. It
walked over him too, and stared at him. So there's
always two sides to every story. It wasn't like something
that he just walked up and decided, I'm gonna run
over this guy.

Speaker 2 (11:47):
Yeah, but you know, mama's like, listen, if he jump
off a bridge, are you gonna jump off a bridge too?

Speaker 3 (11:54):
They don't care. Mamas don't care.

Speaker 1 (11:56):
And I appreciate that, But I'm talking about the fans
that are talking track. Yeah, y'all, I'm not worried about
his mama's business what it is.

Speaker 3 (12:07):
But the reality of the story is.

Speaker 1 (12:09):
This dude has been crucified in public every single week,
and he finally hit a home run and now people
are like, oh, man, you gotta you gotta be classier
than that. Man, y'all just pick your own battle, because
this ain't the one you want right now. So we'll
continue these conversations. Well, because I'm just sick and tired

(12:32):
of being sick and tired, you know what I'm talking about.
When we come back, We're gonna continue the conversation. We'll
hear from some of the players. There were some big
things that happen over the week, and we'll continue these
conversations right here on a Long Horns Victory Monday edition
of The Morning Kickoff on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred
The Zone. Welcome back to a Longhorns Victory Monday edition

(12:56):
of The Morning Kickoff. We have been watching football all
weekend long. There was some great games that were being played,
some big upsets, and a lot of people worried about
Dabbo Sweeney and we'll talk about that in an hour.
In the next segment, coming up into Hards Knocks Life,
I'm gonna give some love to some players that deserve

(13:18):
it because there was finally some connections being made, and
we'll close out the hour talking about the WNBA playoffs.
I know folks, don't lose your mind. I know it's
football season, but there are some special things that happen
in the WNBA that we wanted.

Speaker 3 (13:34):
To touch on a little bit.

Speaker 1 (13:36):
But one of the things that we continue to talk
about is the support of the Texas players amongst each other.
There are times where your brother is going through some
things and there's a moment where you need to be
there with them and try to show some leadership and
grow and really try to encourage each other. We saw

(13:59):
some of that happening in the NFL yesterday. There were
some guys that needed to step up in certain games,
and that's exactly where they did, where they leaned on
the leadership of the players to say, all right, enough
is enough, let's get after it. But we also saw
something where it was not happening. But one thing is
for sure that Michael Taffy, he always has understood what

(14:24):
it is to support a teammate and he believes that
Arch has his swagger back.

Speaker 8 (14:30):
Yeah, I got a swagger back. And we've all known
all the swagger that he's got and he just got
to go play with it NFL. I mean, I'm so
proud of him. Everybody knew that it was in there
and he just had to stay the course. And so
what he showed tonight is what we expect ever since
we came.

Speaker 2 (14:50):
It about that it's hard to go out there and
perform at the highest level and you feel like you're
judged by a different standard in there everybody else you are.

Speaker 3 (15:01):
And he is. That's the reality of it.

Speaker 2 (15:04):
But your teammates are the one that needs to go
coach saying telling you go be you man. It's different
than when your teammates say, look man, we got you.

Speaker 3 (15:14):
And I said that in my hype train.

Speaker 2 (15:18):
The offensive line, the wide receivers, the running backs, all
of those guys that are around or should be the
ones that's stepping up for him, and they got to
protect him. They gotta go on on third down when
they get a ball and they need to get a
first down. The running back need to put that extra
FD in to make sure that happen. You can't have

(15:39):
five drops. The ball hits your hands, catch it. That's
how you help him. I think that he got that
this weekend, and as he started to feel that, he
started to feel more powerful, and he showed that he
could be the guy and his swagger did come back,
He's like, oh, we rolling now.

Speaker 3 (15:58):
And when you get that competence, why would I have
to have my.

Speaker 2 (16:01):
Defensive player come over and go, hey man, you good,
we got you. No, the offense need to get him,
and they did, so I was happy that he had
that feeling.

Speaker 5 (16:13):
Well.

Speaker 1 (16:14):
He went out there and he played efficient football. As
I said before, he was eighteen of twenty one. That's outstanding.
When you sit back and think about the number, you
think about the number, got that, Yeah, you got that
air He throw for three.

Speaker 3 (16:28):
Hundred and nine yards, three touchdowns.

Speaker 1 (16:30):
He did get sacked once, but it was just the
fact that you can see him running around and I
said it early. Get him the ball early, Run him
early in the ball game so he can get himself going,
get him lathered up so he can feel comfortable. If
that's how this has got to play out, that's how
you got to play it out. And I know that

(16:52):
you know he can't run around like that when you
get ready to play in the sec and we'll talk
about that in the second. But for him to feel
good about himself, to be ready to go and be
accurate and look.

Speaker 3 (17:06):
Like he's having fun. He ripped some passes.

Speaker 1 (17:09):
He finally elevated the ball perfectly on the deep pass
to Ryan Wingo for the touchdown.

Speaker 3 (17:15):
Those two starting to play again.

Speaker 1 (17:17):
Then you bring back DeAndre Moore and Coach Stark talked
about it last week. DeAndre Moore ready to roam, he
said it Thursday. They got a nice chemistry between he
and Arch. Well, we got a chance to see that
as well. And once those things start to bubble up,
then it becomes infectious too, Like everybody's watching him to

(17:38):
get excited. And that's what I talked about it in
my heart, not my heart draw Collife, but my keys
to the game. Those were the key players. You gotta
be able to feed off of your guys that you
look to as leaders. They see it at practice every
single day. They talked about it. That's the practice arch
that transferred to the game that they were talking about.

Speaker 3 (17:59):
That's what he kept looking for.

Speaker 2 (18:01):
And you saw the relationship he has with Injuries and
living Stone, Like that's five options of people that you
can go to between your wide receiver, tight.

Speaker 3 (18:12):
End and running backs. Like we.

Speaker 2 (18:17):
Hard that we've been talking and nauseum about the running
backs catching the ball out of the backfield like those
guys did a good job too. They had no drops,
no drops, catching the ball out of the backfield, and
I think that's hitting the checkdown arch a couple of
times pulled the ball down and hit.

Speaker 3 (18:37):
The check down.

Speaker 2 (18:38):
I thought that was just as good as him throwing
a touchdown pass because he did the right thing in
the right situation.

Speaker 1 (18:45):
He's an interesting case study because he is juckling the
high type of story right now, looking like he didn't
feel comfortable. To now he looks comfortable twitch. He still
does it, he still does. I think it's just natural,
just just what he did what he does. You know,
after you throw a ball, sometimes you just move your

(19:06):
arm around a couple of times.

Speaker 3 (19:07):
But I'm not.

Speaker 1 (19:09):
I was more impressed with the velocity and the accuracy
than anything else. The ball looked like it came out
of his hand a little bit less effort. You know,
they talk about effortless, but he didn't look like he
had to put too much effort into it.

Speaker 3 (19:24):
So I was impressed to watch that.

Speaker 1 (19:26):
But the Texas players spoke about the upcoming schedule because
the SEC is just two weeks away.

Speaker 9 (19:33):
Got us some good spirit, you know, just going into
the SEC player and understanding and knowing that we are
able to move the ball, we're able to get stops,
we're able to make it supus to the special team.

Speaker 3 (19:42):
So it's just.

Speaker 10 (19:43):
Overall, it's just that just comes to the leadership maturity
on this team. You know, we know what the what
the goal is, you know, all year long and u
you know, we have a big, h you know, big
challenge going to the conference. You know, it's good to
have those noncovers games, and you know, we got into
a groove this past week and you're to cure the
overs comfortence.

Speaker 8 (20:01):
It's a brutal schedule, taxing on your body. Or we've
been talking the war's coming and the wars right in
front of our face, and we know what it takes
to do it. So we're excited.

Speaker 1 (20:12):
And people forget that Texas is defending SEC regular season champion.
So a lot of folks continue to forget that and
they can look at it.

Speaker 3 (20:21):
Yes, it's a new year.

Speaker 1 (20:23):
You can look at all these other teams and believe
that they look a lot better. But when we left
here on Friday, and we left our pregame show on Saturday,
the question was Roger Waller said, I wanted to see
a smile on Archer's face when he leaves. Check Craig
said that he wanted to make sure that this was

(20:44):
one of the cleaner games for the University of Texas.
Check and I said that we wanted to make sure
that this football team look like they were ascending in
the right direction.

Speaker 3 (20:57):
Check.

Speaker 1 (20:58):
Those goals were met. Those goals were met. And that's
why it's kind of frustrating when if they did not
come out and put fifty five up on this team,
people would have been really losing their mind. But they
did that. They did exactly what was on the schedule.
Who it was, final tune up and got themselves ready.

(21:19):
But the two to five four is still representing. And
our guy, Jolani McDonald got emotional about snagging his second
i INT of the season. And let's just say, my
man got vertical leaps like no other.

Speaker 2 (21:34):
Oh.

Speaker 4 (21:34):
I mean they're running the running, So you just got
a pity stop getting fighting.

Speaker 3 (21:39):
You know, it's just exciting, you know for the now.
I give a chance, get an offense, a chance to
go back out and do that.

Speaker 1 (21:48):
So it's great, always great what he say, complimentary football.

Speaker 3 (21:51):
Yeah, that's what that's all about.

Speaker 1 (21:53):
Let me get that ball back because our defense is
I mean, our offense.

Speaker 3 (21:57):
Is hitting the day.

Speaker 1 (21:58):
Let's get it to him so they can continue to
put points up on the board. That's the impressive part
to me, the way that they've been able to continue
to roll and make things happen. That's the goal every
single day, make things happen. Let's see what we can
do next. And for this team to look the way
that they look, that was important for me.

Speaker 3 (22:20):
Yeah, it was important for me too.

Speaker 2 (22:22):
The number one thing that I saw on the defensive
side is the fact that people were flying to the
ball and that that can also create turnovers because you know,
you get a pile going one way and you see
the peanut punch. You see guys punching for the ball,
trying to strip the ball, and guys are getting down

(22:43):
actively hurrying to get to the ground to keep from
getting hit.

Speaker 10 (22:47):
That.

Speaker 2 (22:49):
Hey, that and any level of football is fantastic.

Speaker 3 (22:53):
That's what it's all about. That is fantastic. That is
what it is all about.

Speaker 1 (22:58):
Coming up next in the Hard Knocks Life, I'm gonna
give a shout out to a couple of players that
I was hoping to see play well, and they answered
the call right here on the morning kickoff on a
victory Monday edition on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred.

Speaker 3 (23:15):
Design As you were looking for me, Well here I go.

Speaker 1 (23:21):
So I want to get into this conversation about this
football team, because if you listen to our pregame show
on Saturday, it sounded a little bit of like I
was frustrated.

Speaker 3 (23:35):
I was.

Speaker 1 (23:37):
At the point of this team should be further along,
and I said, if they go out there and two
players showed up, this team would be better.

Speaker 3 (23:50):
Well, the two players were Colin Simmons and arch Man.

Speaker 1 (23:55):
Now Colin simmons numbers may not look like Arches, obviously
because he's a defensive player, but if you go back
and you watch the film, he did exactly what he
needed to and he even got home to the quarterback
and got himself a sack.

Speaker 11 (24:11):
I'm just glad that they have a quarterback that I'm
ready to sack.

Speaker 1 (24:15):
And he did that, and that's gonna happen again in
a couple of weeks. But the story was more about
the arch manning that we got a chance to see. Yes,
he played better, his fundamentals looked a lot better. He
wasn't short arming the ball. He looked like he was

(24:35):
letting it fly in being free with what he was
trying to do. Mark he talked about the fact of
everybody catching the football. There was not any drops. He
missed three throws in the ball game. That's it. Eighteen
of twenty one, three oh nine with three touchdowns through

(24:59):
the But the other part of it was DeAndre Moore
came back. But the importance of the relationship with Ryan Wingo.
Ryan Wingo is somebody that is going to help stretch
the field. You know, Parker Livingston has been able to
get some love early in the season, and rightfully so.

Speaker 3 (25:21):
He's a playmaker.

Speaker 1 (25:22):
You see what can happen when white chocolate gets loose
on the outside. But Ryan Wingo is somebody that Texas
has been expecting a lot from this summer.

Speaker 3 (25:35):
He went and got his eyes fixed.

Speaker 1 (25:37):
He has some struggles early in the season with some drops.
But on Saturday that connection between Arch Manning and Ryan
Wingo started to show itself a little bit.

Speaker 10 (25:52):
I'm necessarily wait on my shoulder, but I think you
get me excited for sure.

Speaker 3 (25:56):
Like I said, I think we had a great wink
of practice. I said, who's ds so a little bit? Actually,
it will take a little way but at.

Speaker 11 (26:06):
The same time as that keep working.

Speaker 1 (26:09):
You know, you can hear the joy in his face
in his conversation. You can, you can. You can just
understand that this was a game that every Texas longhorned
football player needed. There was a lot of pressure on
this football team. And yes they did drop in the standings,

(26:31):
they went from eight, seven and eight to number ten
in the standings. But I do believe that that is
a great place for them to be.

Speaker 3 (26:42):
Now. The goals have changed again.

Speaker 1 (26:45):
The goalsis that changed the same, but the road to
it has gotten to a different level. Texas coming out
and scoring fifty five points, scoring in every single quarter.
They didn't score double digits in the fourth, but they
went fourteen, seventeen, seventeen, and seven to have fifty five points.

(27:08):
This is a team that needed this game more than anything.
The only bad thing about it is now they gotta
sit for two weeks.

Speaker 3 (27:17):
That's a bad thing. I think it is. I think
it is.

Speaker 1 (27:20):
I think it's because when you when you hit your
stride like this, you want to go back out there.

Speaker 3 (27:26):
You want to go back out there and do it
again the next weekend.

Speaker 1 (27:29):
But because now now you're gonna sit back and listen
to how good you looked. Now you're gonna listen to
how well you played. But the leadership in that locker
room is going to have to take another step because
now first quarter is over. Now we're getting into the
second quarter of the season, and you're getting ready to

(27:51):
go and play.

Speaker 3 (27:53):
Some teams that in the SEC.

Speaker 1 (27:55):
Right now, these teams are playing really good football. So
you have to continue to get better every single game.
You have to continue to work hard every single week,
and you have to start looking at, Okay, how do
we stack up in certain divisions? And obviously being in
the SEC, you start to look around at who your.

Speaker 3 (28:17):
Teams are going to be.

Speaker 1 (28:19):
Old Miss is four and oh, don't play them LSU
four and oh, but Old miss is two and oh
in Conference LSU one and oh in Conference Missouri one
and O Oklahoma one and oh Vanderbilt one, and oh
in Georgia one and oh.

Speaker 3 (28:32):
Let me let me tell you why I said that.

Speaker 2 (28:35):
The reason that I said that is because maybe you
get back to back in two weeks, Maybe you finally
get Moseley back. Are you finally get Moesy period? Yeah,
And there's things that you haven't seen because of all

(28:55):
of the people that will be back into action, and
I just feel like that that's gonna bowl well for
them wanting to continue to show up, and Coach Sark
is not going to allow them to rest on their
laurels that he didn't get to where he is by
allowing his team to read the press clippings and they

(29:15):
know who they played. And when I say that, we
all know that Sam Houston is not Florida. Sam Houston
is not Kentucky or Mississippi State. And the SEC is
an animal that last year everybody thought and everybody said
the fine bombs and all of the people that kissed

(29:38):
the babies at the SEC before Texas came said we
wouldn't measure.

Speaker 3 (29:42):
Up, didn't they? But we did. We probalyvoo listening.

Speaker 2 (29:49):
And now we have that guys coming back and you
have a coach that's like keeping people, Uh listen, they
know where they're going. They're not they're not a they're
not without a flash flight in the dark heart.

Speaker 1 (30:02):
Well, the reason why I said I want them to
play is because I think those guys can play next week.

Speaker 3 (30:08):
I think those guys would be ready to go next week.

Speaker 1 (30:11):
I think coach knew what was on the schedule and
all those guys could be resting.

Speaker 3 (30:16):
I don't think Baxter.

Speaker 1 (30:17):
Would be ready to go because you know as well
as I do, a hamstring is something that you want
that to be oneal before you come back with that.
But Tray Wisner, I think he could be ready to
go and should be ready to go. So it is
a interesting time for this Texas football team because the
judgments are being passed. But the one thing that we

(30:40):
can all agree on, Arch Manning looked good in this
past weekend. He is going to have an opportunity to
go into SEC play on the road where he can
kind of just let it go and have some fun
and just go play. Because when you have confidence like
this and you saw the swagger being back, as they

(31:01):
like to say, they're gonna get an opportunity.

Speaker 3 (31:04):
Now.

Speaker 1 (31:04):
Florida is wounded, they are upset, they are playing, They
are one and three. They got housed by Miami and
we'll talk about that around eight seventeen. But you DJ
Lagway is another quarterback that's been going through some tough
times too, So is this the time they're trying? Yeah,

(31:25):
you don't want none of that smoke against his Texas defense.
So coming up next, we're gonna close out our number
one talk a little WNBA.

Speaker 3 (31:33):
That's right.

Speaker 1 (31:34):
Calm down, folks, We're talking a lot of football today,
but we gotta give love where love is due right
here on the morning kickoff on sports Radio AM thirteen
hundred The Zone.

Speaker 3 (31:46):
I wanted to touch on this on the WNBA.

Speaker 1 (31:49):
The league has been in a different type of spot
right now because of the fact that Caitlyn Clark missed
so much throughout the season. But if you look around
and you look at the faces of the WNBA, obviously
Caitlin Clark has been the biggest face of the WNBA,

(32:10):
but Asia Wilson. Asia Wilson has been a superstar in
the WNBA for quite some time. She was just named
co Defensive Player of the Year and then she was named.

Speaker 3 (32:27):
The MVP for the fourth time.

Speaker 1 (32:31):
She became the WNBA's MVP, passing Sheryl Swoops who was
a three time, Lisa Leslie and Lauren Jackson who was
also three times. Cynthia Cooper was the it was a
unanimous one. She's the other one that's a unanimous one
in Asia Wilson, and she has continued to get accolades

(32:55):
on top of accolades, on top of accolades, and Becky
Hamm and her coad. Remember this was a team that
was struggling. At one point, they weren't even sure if
they were going to make the playoffs. Well, anyway, she said,
there is no Mount Rushmore.

Speaker 3 (33:09):
You are the only one.

Speaker 1 (33:10):
You are Mount Everest because of your talent that you
have had. And this is somebody that's well respected in
the WNBA.

Speaker 3 (33:18):
When you start to look at it, it's.

Speaker 1 (33:19):
All about championships and obviously they've been able to do it.
Now they lost last night in the first round, I
mean the first game of the semifinal, but you start
to look at who this team is and what she's
been able to do.

Speaker 3 (33:32):
She is an.

Speaker 1 (33:33):
Amazing, amazing player and she deserved to be recognized.

Speaker 2 (33:37):
She deserves it on so many fronts because there's never
been a player Lisa Leslie. She was six y five
almost sixty six and was an outstanding scorer, defensive player,
but she never was the offensive player that she was Defensively.

(33:59):
Asia is equally as good an offensive player as she
is a defensive player. Like, how can you, I mean,
she's Michael Jordan basically Michael Jordan was Defensive Player of
the Year at the same time he was the offensive
score of the Year. How do you where do you
do that at? That's what she just did, And she
did this exact same thing, and she's getting.

Speaker 3 (34:21):
Those type of accolades.

Speaker 2 (34:23):
Like to watch her score twenty six points, have twenty
two rebounds, have three steals in four blocks.

Speaker 3 (34:34):
That was the greatest stat I mean.

Speaker 2 (34:36):
That was like some David Robinson, Shaquille O'Neill numbers. So
when you mentioned somebody in the same breath as people
like Michael Jordan, Shaquille O'Neill, David Robinson, like, you can't.
You can only be the best.

Speaker 3 (34:53):
She's a talent.

Speaker 12 (34:54):
That and a wall will be named after her for you,
Yes it will. It will probably be the MVP be
named after her.

Speaker 2 (35:02):
She's the fourth Yeah, yeah, I mean what else would
you let it be named after?

Speaker 3 (35:06):
Yeah, she's gonna She's definitely shown that she is and
she's not done. Guys. We're talking like this is the
end of her career. She's probably got another six years left.
She's twenty nine years old, so we'll see.

Speaker 1 (35:19):
It's crazy, but she continues to put up amazing, amazing numbers.
Also wanted to give a shout out to my girl,
Paige Beckers. She was the rookie of the year, averaging
nineteen point two points, five point four assists, and three
point nine rebounds per game. I've said it before and

(35:39):
I'll say it again, and I will die on this heel.

Speaker 3 (35:42):
I believe if she did not.

Speaker 1 (35:43):
Get hurt during her time at Connecticut, she would have
been a bigger name than what it was for Iowa
and Caitlin Clark. I mean that sincerely because at Iowa,
Kaitlyn Clark had free reign. At at Connecticut, you're playing
part of a team like Duke. When you go to Duke,

(36:06):
you play part of a team. Cooper Flagg was the
best player in the land, but he wasn't without great
players around him. He had three guys going the first
round with him right. He was on a team that
was good. Paige Beckers, being at Yukon, was always on
a team where she did not have to be the
leading scorer, but she was. And that is why I've

(36:30):
always said Paige Beckers should have been the player that
recognized as one of the top players in the country
every single year like they did Kaitlyn.

Speaker 12 (36:40):
Clark Mark, you just said this about about Asia Wilson.
But I'm gonna make the comparison the same name comparison
Michael Jordan when he was in when he was in college.
They basically said, the only way to stop Michael Jordan
from just dominating in college is the fact that he's
on the team he's with.

Speaker 3 (36:57):
Therefore, he doesn't happen because of Dean Smith.

Speaker 2 (37:00):
Dean Smith told Michael that, uh, and this was this
is out there. He said, you're not gonna shoot the
ball more than seven to ten times a game because
of the way we run on offense. You got Michael
Jordan on your team and you only want him to score.
To shoot them all ten times.

Speaker 3 (37:16):
It didn't hurt them. They had players didn't have to.
That's the thing.

Speaker 1 (37:20):
When you're on a team, you got to move to basketball.
You got guys that can score.

Speaker 3 (37:25):
There's a limit to the maddness. Though, well, the madness happened.

Speaker 1 (37:30):
Let's not forget Michael Jordan shot a lot and his
percentage was never really that good.

Speaker 12 (37:36):
Michael took a lot of shots, and that championship kind
of proved that he was right.

Speaker 1 (37:42):
Exactly when he and where did the ball go? They
swung it to Michael, go ahead and knock that down.
I don't need you to score all the points. I
need you to score three points the points. Yeah, okay,
So don't get.

Speaker 3 (37:52):
Hot, No I'm not.

Speaker 1 (37:53):
I'm just like man Mike. You know, Mike had some
tough times in his life too before Scotty got on
that team. You get it twisted because they lost that game. Yeah,
he scored and they lost that game against Bird. So yeah,
it was great way to go lost. Take that with

(38:15):
That's right, one hundred percent. Take that witch. But yeah,
just a little shout out to the women of the
w NBA and what they've been able to discuss. And
I know a lot of people were like, well she's
not playing anymore. Well there's some talented women that were
playing in that league as well. And as we saw,
we just saw somebody get there. Fourth MVP. Never heard of.

(38:39):
That's awesome stuff right there. Our number one is in
the books, our number two. We're gonna continue these conversations
and so much more. We're gonna go back into the NFL.
I gotta ask some questions about what is going on
with the Houston Texans their offense. Let's not forget they
fired their offensive coordinator because some things weren't right. They

(39:02):
got rid of everybody on that offensive line because certain
things weren't right. And now they're trying to figure out, hey,
did we.

Speaker 3 (39:11):
Do the right thing?

Speaker 1 (39:12):
Are we going to be in a good spot. The
other thing is the NFL. Yesterday they had a block
party for the Ages. We also got a chance to
see some guys get some big kicks as well. And
I do want to say this a lot of hate
for arch Manning and people getting after him about all

(39:33):
kinds of stuff. Did you know yesterday that Arch Manning
spent his time at Dell's Children's Hospital and he did
a meet and Greek for sixty five kids and they
all went home with an iPad and a backpack and
they got some photos with QB one relaxed dog. He's
gonna be okay. He's still a human being. Our number

(39:57):
one is in the books. Our number two is just
a round on the corner on the Long Horns. Victory
Monday addition on sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone,
Welcome back to our number two of the morning kickoff
right here on sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone

(40:17):
and our number one we talked about the Texas long
horn victory fifty five to nothing over Sam Houston State.
We got to see Arch flex a little bit and
throw the ball well down the field. We also heard
about the players getting prepared as they get ready to
start SEC against SEC play against Florida Gators who are

(40:38):
one in three on the season and reeling a little bit.
And we also had a conversation about the w NBA.
Now we're going to get into the NFL because the
Houston Texans lose to the Jacksonville Jaguars seventeen to ten,
and at one point it looked like Jacksonville was trying

(40:58):
to give the game to the Houston Texans. But the
Houston Texans come up short once again. And it's interesting
to me because this Houston offense is horrible. Like I
know that Joe Mixon is a big part of the
running game, but Nick Chubb is not bad. We talked

(41:20):
about this and we'll talk to Mark vandermir tomorrow. I
can't wait for his energy because I know he's gonna
be fired up. But you think about this game and
how they fail to move the ball on the ground,
you go out and you get all new offensive Linemen.
I mean you go out and you go and get
a couple of playmakers. Christian Kirk has to be back soon,

(41:43):
like he has to be effective in this game. But
you start to understand that this offense is not where
it needs to be. And the frustrating part about it
for them is CJ. Stroud, who we thought was going
to be better. He seems to cool a lot right
now and it doesn't look like a good football team.

(42:05):
Christian Kirk play but he still don't look effective yet.
He's got to find his timing. But here is c
J Stroud talking about the offense and what needs to
be done.

Speaker 9 (42:17):
I thought we ran the ball well, I thought we
somewhat through it. Well, there's always it's always better than
what you think. But when you lose, of course it's
not good enough. So you know, there there's the design
to rise up Tomorrow we'll be able to go back
to work. So that's a positive, and you know, got

(42:38):
to just keep going forward. And everybody's gonna talk crazy
like they've been doing and have these analysis and rightly
so like you know that's NFL. You give him and
still take them off. So we got to be able
to stay together stick, stick together, stay as a family,
stay as a brotherhood, and you know, try to get
these things fixed because you know it's a long season.

(42:59):
You start going three, but you know it could be flitched.

Speaker 2 (43:04):
So he's trying to defend his team. He's trying to
defend their effort. But he's a captain, so that's what
he's supposed to do. But in as hard of heart
as he knows that they're disorganized, that the game plan
is not game planning, the math is not mathing right,

(43:26):
and he like sometimes quarterbacks have to take it on
themselves to go to the head coach and coordinate and
say we're not playing in our strength. And that's usually
a hard conversation, but I think.

Speaker 3 (43:40):
It needs to be had.

Speaker 1 (43:41):
Well, I think it needs to be had because the
offense is bad. It's like he scored ten points. You
have all those weapons on your football team and you're
only scoring ten points.

Speaker 3 (43:55):
You should be able to score more. I'm about to
get into Cowboys here in just the second too. Oh
they're not exempt.

Speaker 1 (44:01):
No, I mean you start looking at this team that
they lost the first game fourteen to nine. They lose
the second game, which they should have won, but they
let banker, banker, touchdown maker, get some things off his chest,
and they lose twenty to nineteen. And then you come
out and you lose this game with ten points score

(44:21):
against Jacksonville. Jacksonville is not a staunch defense. It's not
somebody that you're sitting there. Oh, how we gonna game
playing against Jacksonville people? Jacksonville give up points and they
did not give up points this week.

Speaker 12 (44:37):
They're trying to make me have a bad problem of
drinking a bad Okay, yeah.

Speaker 1 (44:44):
This is a not a good look for this football team.
And you know, Dimiko was asked about his offensive coordinator
because he's got a new one and he's just trying
to figure it out.

Speaker 11 (44:55):
Being this thing together, we gotta figure it all out.
So we're all in this thing trying to make sure
we figure out what works for us. How do we
find success on the offensive side of the football right
to continue to sustain drives.

Speaker 3 (45:07):
Or score points.

Speaker 11 (45:07):
We understand where we are and we got the guys,
got the right people to get it fixed. We just
got to get it fixed and play cleaner offense.

Speaker 6 (45:14):
Right.

Speaker 3 (45:15):
Overall, we're all in this thing together.

Speaker 11 (45:17):
Right we of course we want to play better offensively. Right,
We just gotta we all are sticking together. We gotta
find a way to make sure we figure it out,
and we will because I know we have the right people, right,
we got the right staff, we got the right players.
We just gotta figure it all out and we gotta
go show it. It's not me saying that. We just
got to go show it, and that's when we'll see

(45:39):
the improvement.

Speaker 2 (45:40):
When you say something to that effect, it's usually the opposite.

Speaker 12 (45:46):
The offense is not together. Oh Man sounded like McDaniel.

Speaker 3 (45:51):
He did.

Speaker 2 (45:52):
He's repeating himself. But the whole point is he's saying
we gotta stick together because they have to because they're divided.
The philosophies are not there. That's what I was saying.
The quarterback has to go. Look, guys, I'm the one
that's getting the blunt of this, and if we need
to line up for wide receivers that aired out, then

(46:12):
let's try it, because the way we're playing right now
is not good.

Speaker 3 (46:18):
For what they are.

Speaker 2 (46:20):
You know, like take the tight end out of the play.
I mean, I know Dalton Shultz's is a good tight end,
but throwing the ball across the middle to Dalton Shultz
is not the best option on that team. Like you
need one on ones, and I think that Stroud is
a smart enough guy to figure out who's got the

(46:42):
one on one and run rounds to figure out where
the weakness is on the defense, Like you saw that
against the Cowboys yesterday. The everybody knows the last three games,
everybody knew the weakness is Diggs throw it deep over
the top.

Speaker 3 (47:01):
He can't run no more.

Speaker 2 (47:03):
Right, He's anticipating the shorter routes and he getting beat
go at him. And that's that's what they did. And
that's what Houston is not doing. The Houston is not
figuring out, Okay, we need to get the ball to
this area. This is the strength of our offense and

(47:23):
they got it. They do have to be together, and
they are not together right now.

Speaker 3 (47:28):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (47:29):
It's a it's a tough, tough look. You know what
else is a tough look watching the Dallas Cowboys as
they try to figure out what's going on with this
football team. And one of the things that you look
at when you see the Cowboys is their defense is awful.
This is probably, if not the worst defense in the NFL.

(47:51):
It is definitely one of the worst. They keep getting burnt.
Russell Wilson put up unbelievable numbers last week, and he
couldn't move the ball in the game.

Speaker 3 (48:03):
Last night.

Speaker 1 (48:03):
He could not move it at all against Kansas City
through two interceptions. Cowboys just let everybody get get there
to lick back. And now you sit and you try
to figure out, okay, where are the Cowboys? And I
was talking about this last night. I have a ticket.
I was going to bring it in, but I was
so mad. I just went to bed. I have a

(48:25):
ticket for the Cowboys. And then I thought it was
a joke that they have them down for seven and
a half wins. And I was like, count me, run
me my money. Now I'm sitting there looking at that ticket.
If I should go ahead and tear it up.

Speaker 3 (48:43):
Oh my god, I can't. I can't.

Speaker 1 (48:48):
And that's the frustrating part for me. Where is the
good on this football team? Caleb Williams looked like he
has struggled the entire season. Team of twenty eight, two
hundred and ninety eight yards and four time they were
running trick plays on the Cowboys. I showed Marcus a

(49:09):
pitcher today of third and two setup where the wide
receiver is at the stadium in Chicago and Trayvon Diggs's
garding them in Milwaukee. You can't tell me we're finna
stop somebody with that. And Matt Eberflus, you know the
personnel over there. You know every single player that is
on that team that you could not win with, can't

(49:33):
win with them. You did not do it, and that's
why you're a defensive coordinator. I'm hoping he don't make
it to next week. Get him out of there. And
I think a lot of fans Dallas Cowboy fans feel
the exact same way that I do, because fans are
pointing the finger at Eberflus.

Speaker 13 (49:51):
Now I did a little homework as Simon. I don't
believe the Cowboys have ever fired a defensive coordinator in season.
Mike Nolan was let go after the season. See Rob
Ryan was let go after the season. They've made a
head coaching firing and Wade Phillips, who is also the
defensive coordinator. But that's really all you've got. The Cowboys
don't have a history of doing that. And I will

(50:13):
say in Fluce's defense, we had similar conversations about Mike
Zimmer at the beginning of last year with the Saints
and the Baltimore gamer Lions game, they get blown out.
There was a lot of ugly on that defense, and
then things got correct in the back half of the season.
I don't know if that's going to happen, but we
have pointed the finger at the defensive coordinator a lot,
even going back to Dan Quinn after that Green Bay game.

(50:35):
At some point, is it the coordinator or is it
the personnel?

Speaker 14 (50:37):
Brian, I think there's a I think there's I know
I've got this discussion and people like you mentioned, I
was on I was on Twitter during the game and
talking to people. I'm not defending Fluse because, like I say,
if you don't have confidence in your guys, you know,
then that's that's a huge problem.

Speaker 1 (50:54):
So let me ask you this, is it the defensive
coordinator or is it the defensive players?

Speaker 3 (50:59):
Because here's the difference.

Speaker 1 (51:01):
Those players were brought in by your GM, those players
have been in the organization.

Speaker 3 (51:09):
What is the conversation that needs to be had.

Speaker 2 (51:11):
The conversation is, and I don't know if I have
enough time to break it down, but Jerry.

Speaker 3 (51:16):
Jones is a problem.

Speaker 2 (51:18):
Well, we should have traded away the best player in
the NBA, in the NBA, the best player in the NFL.
And Diggs I've been saying for three years he will
try to unlace your shoes. That's about all he can do,
and catch a deep ball. Now he can't do that
because he's had physical limitations. You have to just eat

(51:39):
the money and get rid of him.

Speaker 1 (51:40):
We'll go end up finding out because there's a lot
that needs to change. If there is going to be
some positivity. Because Michael Parsons is coming to town next
Sunday night football, it ain't gonna be pretty Coming up next,
we're gonna talk about the college game because there's a
lot that went down right here on the morning kickoff
on sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone. In the

(52:01):
next segment, we've got the World's Strongest man bringing you
his world's strongest take.

Speaker 3 (52:06):
You do not want to miss it.

Speaker 1 (52:08):
As always, but right now I want to get into
college football.

Speaker 3 (52:12):
We talked a little bit about this on Friday.

Speaker 1 (52:16):
Mike Gundy's in a bad, bad spot right now in
Oklahoma State.

Speaker 3 (52:21):
They lose on Friday, tough matchup.

Speaker 1 (52:25):
They played a rival in Tulsa and Tulsa handled their business.
So now Gundhy is in a bad spot. Another person
that's in a bad spot is the one and only
guess who Dabbo Sweeney. Oh gosh, Dabbo's in a bad
spot again. They end up losing the ball game over

(52:47):
the weekend, and you start to understand there's some things
that happen in every single week that you're like, wait
a minute, how did this happen again?

Speaker 3 (52:59):
And Dabbos he's defeated. He sounded very defeated.

Speaker 1 (53:02):
At first, he was defiant, and then all of a sudden,
you look at how the game goes and gets played out,
and Dabbo's like, well, we're all hurting right now.

Speaker 3 (53:13):
We're going through some things right now.

Speaker 1 (53:16):
And I'm like, da Bo, what happened to the confident
swagger led Dabbo Sweeney the leader? But Fran Brown from Syracuse,
he's the one that told you, I don't care nothing
about none of that. We're coming out here to win.
We're coming out here to win the game. And that's
exactly what they did in Clemson. They went on the road,

(53:37):
Syracuse did and beat Clemson thirty four to twenty one.
And now Dabbo's trying to figure out what's wrong with
his program. When is the last time they were won
in three to start a season.

Speaker 3 (53:49):
I have no clue.

Speaker 2 (53:50):
I don't think that they've ever been I mean, you
look at the last eight years, and they played in
four national championships in those eight years, and one two
of them.

Speaker 3 (54:02):
Let us know about it.

Speaker 2 (54:03):
But I'm gonna tell you something, boy, fran Brown, I'm
tired of being right. I told you that that guy
was gonna be a great coach, and he was one
of those guys that I wanted Jacob.

Speaker 3 (54:13):
To play for before he went to Oklahoma.

Speaker 2 (54:16):
And Fran Brown when he took that job, he said
that we're gonna play tough. Mama's gonna call me and
tell me to back off. They sons because I'm gonna
be down their neck. And I went, ooh, when you
advertise I'm coming for your son, he gonna be a
better man. After he meets me, I was like, Okay,

(54:37):
I'm signing where I signed? Where do I sign? And
you he took it. It's not like that it's some
kind of magic trick because Syracuse has never been a
dominant team in college football. They've been good before when
they had like McNab and they had people, but that's

(54:58):
so far long. The last ten years they've been horrible.
They're pretty good. Last year that's when he took well,
that's when he took over last year. But that's you know,
I mean, you look at Texas. Texas got their star player,
their star defensive tackle is playing for Texas right now.
So it's like he's building guys of character as well

(55:23):
as good players.

Speaker 1 (55:25):
And John ty Cook is showing out for them up there.
John tag former Texas long hom.

Speaker 2 (55:29):
Trading him out. I guarantee he's a better human.

Speaker 1 (55:32):
Six receptions, one hundred and thirteen yards in that matchup
against Clemson, So that's gonna be a big story. You
also look at what TCU was able to do with SMU,
TCU Hoover at quarterback, McAllister at wide receiver, and small
from from right here at Austin Anderson. He's been an

(55:55):
impact player for them. TCU is now three to oh
in the Big twelve, I mean on the regular season,
by defeating SMU, who falls to two and two. The
game though, was Texas Tech in Utah, and my man
Joel Klack kind of put his foot in his mouth

(56:15):
in this ballgame.

Speaker 6 (56:17):
Dude, this is what folks from fifty eight yards away.

Speaker 3 (56:22):
I don't think he's got the lake. Utah should have
somebody back under the goal post. There's a good likelihood
that this is short. It's not clean. Hold take that, Joel.

Speaker 6 (56:38):
I want to kick How about that?

Speaker 3 (56:39):
He takes longman's forty seven.

Speaker 6 (56:42):
Like you said, they bring him in and he trills it.

Speaker 3 (56:45):
I want to kick stones. I love it, I love it,
I love it. Take that, Joel Klatt.

Speaker 1 (56:52):
The number seventeenth ranked Texas Tech Red Raiders now moved
to four and oh. They scored twenty four points in
the fourth quarter to get that victory over the number
sixteenth rank Utah.

Speaker 3 (57:06):
Two kids from the area played well.

Speaker 1 (57:09):
Will Hammond had to come in to take over for
Baron Morton who got knocked out, and Cameron Dickie has
done a great job as the running back. Two touchdowns,
thirteen carries for sixty seven yards. That young man went
to Crockett and Will Hemmon went to huddle. So you
start to look around and you understand that there's some

(57:29):
big games that are being played. One was played in Norman,
as Oklahoma defeated Auburn to move to Fort in oh
twenty four to seventeen Jackson Arnold's homecoming.

Speaker 3 (57:42):
He did all right.

Speaker 1 (57:43):
He had a touchdown and threw for two hundred and
twenty yards, but John Mattier two hundred and seventy one
yards passing one touchdown and he also ran for a
touchdown as well. So Oklahoma moves into the AP top
ten as they continue to find a way to get
it done every single ballgame.

Speaker 2 (58:05):
Well, I'm looking forward to seeing both of those teams
being undefeated going into the Cotton Bowl. And that's the
most that I can hope for because I just really
think that they will be the number one game of
the week. It obviously is going to be the number
one game of the week, and whoever wins that game

(58:26):
is going to go in the top three.

Speaker 3 (58:27):
I said that last on Friday and I'm sticking to it.

Speaker 1 (58:32):
Well, Oklahoma's sitting at number seven right now in the AP.
The new AP pole came out. It is Ohio State
still at number one. Miami moves up to number two
after its victory over excuse me, Florida twenty six to seven.
Penn State dropped to number three. They didn't even play

(58:53):
last week, so I don't know how you lose and whatever.
LSU wins and they drop as well. They are now
the number four team in the land. You start to
look at Georgia, Georgia's number five, they're three and oh
they've got a big matchup this weekend against Alabama. Oregon

(59:14):
moves to number six in Oklahoma's number seven, Florida State
number eight, Texas A and M with a bye week,
goes to number nine. Texas falls to number ten, dropping
two spots after a big victory which is explain us.
It is a little bit Indiana who they beat the

(59:37):
snot out of Illinois sixty three to ten.

Speaker 3 (59:43):
Big time win for Indiana.

Speaker 1 (59:45):
Another team that might be trying to upset the apple
cart when it comes to the college football playoffs.

Speaker 3 (59:52):
As I said, Texas.

Speaker 1 (59:53):
Tech is now the number twelve ranked team, moving from
seventeen to twelve after their impressive three over Utah Ole
MISSUS thirteen, Iowa State fourteen, Tennessee fifteen. Georgia Tech beats
Temple and moves to sixteen. Alabama even though they didn't play,

(01:00:13):
they dropped three spots to number seventeen. So you have
a big matchup between Georgia, who is number five and
the number seventeen rank Alabama, Crimson Tide, Vanderbilt Vandervilt scary four,
and oh, Michigan number nineteen. They win over Nebraska on
a walk off big Tom kick right there for them

(01:00:36):
to win that game.

Speaker 3 (01:00:37):
Missouri is at number twenty.

Speaker 1 (01:00:39):
They defeated South Carolina twenty nine to twenty USC look
at old Lincoln Riley out there four and oh they
beat Michigan State one. Notre Dame is at twenty two.
They win their first game of the season, defeating Purdue
fifty six to thirty. Illinois dropped to fourteen spots after

(01:01:01):
their butt kickings.

Speaker 3 (01:01:03):
Yeah, by Indiana.

Speaker 1 (01:01:04):
TCU is at twenty four after their victory against SMU,
and BYU rounds out the top twenty five at number
twenty five after beating East Carolina thirty four to thirteen.

Speaker 3 (01:01:19):
Any of those teams surprised you.

Speaker 2 (01:01:21):
I think that Alabama should be higher significantly, and I
think that there's no way that Texas should have dropped
to ten.

Speaker 3 (01:01:29):
Minimum they should be eight.

Speaker 12 (01:01:31):
Wait a minute, Wait a minute, Texas dropped to ten,
and A and M went up from ten to nine,
and AM didn't play in Texas one by fifty five.

Speaker 3 (01:01:42):
Yeah, I don't understand it cineresting man. I mean, this
is this is the world that we live in. Is
the computers and the conversations. Because Texas is now going
to be off, they must be on down up the AOL.
Sorry Lens, but you start to look at at these
matchups in what the weekend is.

Speaker 1 (01:02:02):
We'll talk about the matchups tomorrow because there's some really
good games that'll be played this weekend. But coming up next,
the World's Strongest Man brings you his world's Strongest take
right here on a Longhorse victory Monday edition of the
Morning Kickoff on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred.

Speaker 3 (01:02:22):
Liza, you heard it. That's what he do and what
he do at eight thirty four is bring you his
world's strongest take.

Speaker 1 (01:02:33):
He's the WWE Hall of Famer and recognize as the
world's strongest man.

Speaker 3 (01:02:37):
Take it away, big fella Hart. What's up?

Speaker 10 (01:02:40):
Man?

Speaker 3 (01:02:40):
You know what time it is? What Thomas if?

Speaker 2 (01:02:43):
Time for the World's Strongest Take by the World's Strongest Man.

Speaker 3 (01:02:50):
My guess back then they didn't know me, but now
I'm hot. They're all on me.

Speaker 5 (01:02:56):
Guys.

Speaker 2 (01:02:57):
Another edition of the World's Strongest takee and uh, this
is it's not a positive one.

Speaker 3 (01:03:04):
Like you know, I have some concerns.

Speaker 2 (01:03:06):
Uh, this is a bad time for UH players in
the NFL. H James Connor went down with an injury,
UH season ending. Naji Harris got carted off.

Speaker 3 (01:03:23):
For the season.

Speaker 2 (01:03:25):
Nick Bosa, his knee is questionable. They're gonna do an
m RA today, but UH, it doesn't look good. We
had cd cd Lamb go down with an ankle injury, UH,
the same injury that that Connor had. And you know

(01:03:46):
we had Mike Evans go down with a hamstring. But
that's not what the take is about. The take us
about the injury to Cede Lamb, the injury to James Connor,
and last week Ashton Genty, running back for the Raiders,

(01:04:10):
limped off the field after being hip tackled.

Speaker 3 (01:04:16):
Ceedee Lamb hip tackle, Connor hip tackle.

Speaker 2 (01:04:23):
The NFL made this rule called the hip tackle because
so many people got hurt. And I'm gonna read you
the definition of a hip tackle hip drop tackle. The
hip drop tackle occurs when the defender grabs and wraps
up a ball care but rotates or swivels his hips

(01:04:45):
and unweights his weight onto a player and drops to
the player's legs During the tackle. It happened to see
thee lamb with the but it was more of a
trip as well as a hip tackle. The same thing
happened to Connor, and the same thing happened to Ashing
Genty last week.

Speaker 3 (01:05:04):
Guys, when.

Speaker 2 (01:05:07):
Is the league gonna enforce the hip tackle rule or
the tripping rule like they do a horse coper like
they do pass interference. Holding illegal hands to the face
is actually more violent than the other penalties. Horse tackle,

(01:05:27):
same thing. They're in the same category because they injured
players when you do it. I grew up with a
guy best friend in high school, Derick McCain. Derek would
let people pass him just so he can grab the back.

Speaker 3 (01:05:45):
Of the jersey and yank him backwards and the ball
would always stay in the air and he would get
the fumble. It's illegal.

Speaker 2 (01:05:56):
It's illegal to do that now, so harch when do
they start to enforce the rule because they're not doing
anything about it. As soon as Ashton Jenty got tripped
last week, I went god like, no penalty and then
you lose James Conner and Okay, I always talk about

(01:06:18):
fantasy football. James Connor is a fantasy football elite. You're
guaranteed to get close to one hundred yards and a
touchdown every week out of James Connor. And I'm sure
there's a lot of people that's so mad right now
because he's a first second round pick.

Speaker 3 (01:06:38):
And the same thing with Najie Hairs. Of course, Najia
Harris went down with achilles is not the same, but
ceedee Lamb.

Speaker 2 (01:06:46):
He could have been lost for the season yesterday. That
was an illegal tackle and nothing happened.

Speaker 3 (01:06:55):
Also said there weren't no penalty on it. There was
no penalty.

Speaker 2 (01:06:58):
So when are they gonna start to enforce the rule
and protect these guys running backs, wide receivers. It's skill
position players that are receiving these penalties.

Speaker 3 (01:07:10):
When are they gonna start to enforce and why aren't
they enforcing it.

Speaker 1 (01:07:17):
I was just about to say, I don't believe that
they're going to because under what they saw, they don't
see it as that type of tackle because there's nobody flagged.

Speaker 3 (01:07:26):
There's nothing that is saying. And you mentioned the horse caller.

Speaker 1 (01:07:30):
The horse caller is easy to call because of the
way that it goes down. But we see these guys,
they've missed so many different things on plays last night,
in the game against the Chiefs, Scatterboo got tackled finish man.

Speaker 3 (01:07:45):
It was a base man.

Speaker 1 (01:07:46):
Nobody saw it, nobody called it because they're moving so
fast that it's difficult for you to see every single thing.

Speaker 3 (01:07:54):
Just like the touch push.

Speaker 1 (01:07:55):
They've been showing in replay that their linemen leave before
the ball is snap, but it's so tight and everybody's
so bunched up they can't see it. The game is
so fast it's difficult for them to see it.

Speaker 3 (01:08:09):
Now.

Speaker 1 (01:08:09):
The CD Lamb thing, First off, the Cowboys shouldn't have
had Ceedee Lamb running the dog on ball at a
running back position in the first backs. That's why that happened.
He shouldn't have been there. That's not what he does.
He's your best wide receiver. Why are you putting him
in the backfield trying to be funny, trying to be cute,
and then now you're sitting with him on the sideline
not having him in so Yes, CD, the dude got

(01:08:31):
pushed down Cee stiffed arm, his whole face down to
the ground.

Speaker 3 (01:08:36):
That's why that dude was under him, and that's why
that happened. That you cannot use your legs to tackle
he had. He was on his back grabbing CD down.

Speaker 2 (01:08:46):
I hope that you rewatched that player. It was a
dirty play. It should be punishable by fifteen yards. That's
what the rule states. And they did not enforce the call.
They did not make that call. And my take is this,
it's gonna take for a quarterback to get tackled like
that in order for them to start enforcing it and

(01:09:11):
make a mandate throughout the whole NFL that, guys, this
is not called for. If it happens again, you will
be suspended. The quarterback is the is the one, like
everybody else is expendable.

Speaker 1 (01:09:25):
I feel like, okay, So this goes back to the
the the offense getting preferential treatment over the defense agains it.
And that is why this ain't gonna happen, because the
NFL is already looking at this and realizing that, hey,
this can't happen like this. This can't happen like this. Yes,

(01:09:48):
do people need to tackle the tackle the ball carrier? Beggar, Yeah,
But if you been watching some of these running backs
running over these safeties that are been running up there,
did you see Javonte Williams yesterday run through some bodies yesterday.

Speaker 3 (01:10:03):
Them dudes are trying to do anything.

Speaker 2 (01:10:04):
You also saw that this week, say, Khn Barkley got
fined fifteen thousand dollars for lowering his face mass and
hitting making contact with another.

Speaker 3 (01:10:16):
Player's face mass.

Speaker 2 (01:10:17):
So there's negatives too, and they're going after the stars.
Derrick Henry Deck Henry got fined for two weeks ago
because he didn't just stiff.

Speaker 3 (01:10:29):
Arm, he grabbed the face mask and pushed the guy backwards.

Speaker 1 (01:10:34):
So that's the hardest one to handle though, because the
offensive player always grabs their face mask.

Speaker 3 (01:10:40):
When you think about that stiff arm, Yeah, but you
can stiff arm it, but you can't grab it. Yeah,
can't snatch it off. And Dereck grabbed it.

Speaker 1 (01:10:48):
Interesting take, and we'll continue these conversations.

Speaker 3 (01:10:52):
But coming up next Major League Baseball.

Speaker 1 (01:10:54):
This is the final week of Major League Baseball in
history is being made all over the place, right here
on the world the World's strongest day, but it was
the world's strongest day, but right here on sports Radio
AM thirteen hundred the Zone. What a great way to
kick off your week, even though it is a bye week,

(01:11:16):
just being being able to understand that coach Shark will
be meeting with the media today. Myself, Craig Way, will
be starting this show off at eleven am, followed by
Coach Shark with his weekly press conference at eleven thirty.
He will be recapping the first quarter of the season

(01:11:37):
as the Texas Longhorns finish the non con three and
one three and one, as Texas gets ready to start
SEC play in a couple of weeks. We also talked
Dallas Cowboys and the Houston Texans seem to be having
the same trouble not scoring points and keeping people out

(01:11:59):
of the end zone, two defenses that are in two
different places, and we'll continue that as well. We'll also
take a look at the SEC tomorrow and have that conversation.

Speaker 3 (01:12:13):
We'll also have Joe Cook of Inside Texas.

Speaker 1 (01:12:16):
But this is the final week of Major League Baseball,
and Major League Baseball has some guys that are doing
some really cool things in the major leagues. One of
those guys is Corbyn Carroll, center fielder of the Arizona Diamondbacks.
He has been able to be a thirty thirty guy.

(01:12:41):
Now there's two guys that have done thirty thirty this year.
One of them is Jose Ramirez, He's got thirty home
runs and forty rbrs.

Speaker 3 (01:12:48):
That's outstanding.

Speaker 1 (01:12:49):
What Corbin Carroll is the first Diamondback player in the
history of that organization to go thirty thirty in a season.

Speaker 3 (01:12:59):
So I think that relations pretty dog gone cool.

Speaker 1 (01:13:02):
And of course I'd be remiss if I did not
mention the big dumper from Seattle Mariners, Cal.

Speaker 15 (01:13:14):
Deep the opposite way ahead Estoray number fifty seven, a
number never said before, the most ever by a Mariner.
He has passed Ken Griffey Junior. A truly transcendent season by.

Speaker 1 (01:13:34):
Cal Rolly talked about it before I'm continue to say it.

Speaker 3 (01:13:39):
I believe that cal Raley he should be the al MVP.

Speaker 1 (01:13:45):
But as I continued to say that, I went back
and I saw a post that was out yesterday or
a couple days ago, and it was about the season
and the what has been going on with Aaron Judge.
And it is kind of interesting when you think about
the hype when it comes to Aaron Judge and what

(01:14:06):
he's been able to do through his time. In the
last five five seasons, four seasons, he's got a bad
average of three ten, a slugging percentage of four point
thirty seven and an on base percentage of six seventy four.
This guy has been the peak of his career. And

(01:14:30):
in the type that top five, you start thinking about
the top right handed hitters. Josh Gibson is number one,
Rogers Hornsby is number two, Albert Pujos is number four,
Frank Thomas is number five, and Aaron Judge is sitting
at number three.

Speaker 3 (01:14:51):
Those guys are good hard name. Yeah, that's what the
rumor is.

Speaker 1 (01:14:54):
So you start to look at what his numbers have
looked out look like year in year out, and you
get bored with it.

Speaker 2 (01:15:03):
I guess you would say, I think that's what it is,
is boredom with greatness. But Harge, yep, the big Dumper
is doing something never ever done before. You think of
all the catchers that have ever played that you grew
up watching, and.

Speaker 3 (01:15:26):
They've never done what he's done. Yep.

Speaker 2 (01:15:29):
And you look at the Mariners. Everybody knows that. When
you say the name Ken Griffy, it just tells you
right off the bat, that's that's that's greatness, super greatness
in sports.

Speaker 3 (01:15:43):
He just passed krit Ken Griffy Jr.

Speaker 5 (01:15:46):
Yep.

Speaker 2 (01:15:48):
At that level of greatness never been done before. You
gotta give him.

Speaker 3 (01:15:53):
No war at Harge. You just got to. I believe,
I believe he is the guy.

Speaker 1 (01:15:58):
And again I'm not taking anything away from what Aaron
Judge has been able to do, but his team, and
Marcus can attest to this, Cayl Riley's team, He's doing
this for a team that's about to win the Pennant.
I mean they're about to win their division. They are
trying to. They just swept the Houston Astros this weekend

(01:16:19):
and he was a huge part of what had just happened.
You know, He's sitting at fifty eight home runs. So
here's the guys that already have fifty home runs. Riley, Yeah,
Riley's has fifty eight, Kyle Schwarber has fifty three, show
Hail Tani has fifty three as well. Aaron Judge is

(01:16:40):
sitting at forty nine, so he might be there, and
Suarez from as three homers away from being in the
fifty home run That's what this week is for a
lot of these guys. Yeah, you look at what the
New York Mets have been able to do when you
look at their team. One Soto, he is a thirty
thirty guy, theydn't never think I would see him being

(01:17:03):
at that position. But people are like, wow, he doesn't
do much. He's got forty two omers and thirty five backs.
He did a lot there.

Speaker 3 (01:17:10):
That's the lot.

Speaker 1 (01:17:11):
He's done a really good job in New York after
that slow start at the very beginning of the season.
Francisco Lindor, He's at twenty eight home runs in thirty one.
They will be the first set of teeth, the third
pair of teammates they hit thirty to thirty, joining Ellis
Burks and Dante Pachett and how Hojo and Darryl Strawberry.

Speaker 3 (01:17:30):
For being able to do that for the Mets. In
Judge's defense, he gets walked a lot.

Speaker 1 (01:17:35):
Well, it's because he's a selective hitter. He's a really
he's great. He's great.

Speaker 2 (01:17:41):
But if he got another one hundred pitchers, just one hundred,
I'm not saying he's been walking way too much.

Speaker 3 (01:17:48):
And that's all great hitters. You say, you know what, man,
I think we just gonna walk him. He's such a
good he has a good plate discipline. He has plate discipline.

Speaker 1 (01:18:01):
He can see, he can he has the ability to
dissect the pitch to see if it's a ball or strike.

Speaker 3 (01:18:07):
He's that talented.

Speaker 1 (01:18:08):
He's had that unbelievable career, and since he's the captain
of the Yankees, it has been it's been fun to
watch what he's been able to do. But I said
it before and I'll say it again. You start to
look at what Kyle Riley has been able to do.
His team is in position long week. They got to
finish the week out right, but they are in a

(01:18:30):
position to win the Al West.

Speaker 3 (01:18:33):
Yankees are not going to catch well, I might catch him.
They could catch him.

Speaker 2 (01:18:38):
But it's going to have to be perfect. They gotta
have perfection. I don't put perfection on nobody in baseball.
Uh but but my thing is about him is with
a hundred pitchers Hugh bats, yeah, he would have had
at least three or four more home runs, Oh.

Speaker 3 (01:18:55):
No doubt about it. But again, like I said, people
are smart about how they approach him.

Speaker 1 (01:19:01):
They also he is disciplined enough to not get out
of his character to change just because he thinks he
needs to go get a couple more home runs to
get the MVP.

Speaker 3 (01:19:12):
Been there done that? Yeah, I might. I might walk
Riley into that. You know, put the rest of season. Yeah,
he's he's swinging the bat very very well. So it's
been really cool to watch what history is being made.

Speaker 1 (01:19:26):
And as I said, all these guys with the thirty
thirty club got some more money in your pocket because
now you put yourself in the upper extelon of baseball players.

Speaker 3 (01:19:36):
Because that ain't something that happens every single year.

Speaker 1 (01:19:39):
For you to be able to do it as the
first player in the organization, that's pretty cool too.

Speaker 3 (01:19:44):

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
