Speaker 2 (02:12):
My friend Nita Strauss is the league guitarist Fallast Cooper, Well,
I don't think you need to get tickets.
Speaker 3 (02:17):
I think I mean, I don't think you need to
win the tickets. I think you can get some tickets.
I mean that wouldn't be fair. Yeah, that's taken away
from somebody else's.
Speaker 1 (02:26):
Yeah, well, somebody else that took away from the opportunity
was the Texas Longhorns. Your Texas Longhorns defeated the Texas
A and m Aggie sweep. How sweep it is Texas
to do that this past weekend. It was outstanding baseball.
They set a record number for attendance this past weekend.
(02:51):
We expected it to be huge. We expected it to
be a big weekend, but Texas and Texas A and M.
What a record for the dish. Twenty three thousand, six
hundred and eighty people filed in all weekend long to
watch this great series between the Texas Longhorns.
Speaker 3 (03:14):
How many on Saturday? I don't know.
Speaker 1 (03:17):
It was a It was a ton of people there
on Saturday as well, because I went right over there
after our pregame show down on Bevo Boulevard.
Speaker 3 (03:28):
It was outstanding turnout.
Speaker 1 (03:29):
A lot of people were going back and forth throughout
that weekend.
Speaker 2 (03:33):
But that they can. I thank you man, because Cam
and I were talking about this after our Saturday event,
and you know, you hugged us for the first time.
My god, no, that's not what happened. That's not what happened,
you know, like normally that's not you. But we won't
thank you man like for you know, showing some affection.
Speaker 1 (03:55):
Well, I appreciate that because I was doing everything I
possibly could to get away from y'all. So Saturday, that
were seventy eight hundred people that were there. Mark, Wow,
eight hundred and eight people that the game on Saturday.
Texas wins the series. They went on Friday night two
(04:16):
to one, they went on Saturday night three to two,
and then they win yesterday six to five.
Speaker 3 (04:23):
But let's not talk about it. Let's be about it.
Speaker 1 (04:26):
Let's hear about how this victory took place on Sunday.
Speaker 4 (04:33):
So to Plantier, ready, he's first pitch and that's hit
on the line down the left field line on his horse.
Speaker 3 (04:38):
Rodriguez dives, he made the catch. He made the catch.
Speaker 4 (04:42):
What a tremendous diving catch from Adrian Rodriguez to take
away extra bases from Cayton Kent and retire the.
Speaker 3 (04:51):
Aggies in the third.
Speaker 1 (04:53):
But not only did he make a great defensive play,
he got to come back in the bottom of the
third inning to uh add a little flavor to the
ball game.
Speaker 4 (05:03):
Miles Patten with another three to two pitch Teterre and Rodriguez.
Speaker 3 (05:07):
And he swings him.
Speaker 4 (05:12):
Miles Patton with another three to two pitch teter and Rodriguez,
and he swings.
Speaker 3 (05:16):
Hi Langston in the left field. It'll fall in yes,
then it'll go to the wall rounding third. The scores farmer.
Speaker 4 (05:23):
Rounding second is Rodriguez, and he'll hold there with an
RBI double the opposite way into the corner. The logruns
are on the board and the aggie lead has been
cutting half to two to one.
Speaker 1 (05:35):
Well, here's the interesting part about everything about Adrian Rodriguez.
He came into the season as the starting third baseman,
struggled a little bit at third, but he was great
at the play. Ends up hurting his hand. He's a
switch hitter, ends up hurting his hand, limits him a
little bit, and they try to figure out something else. Well,
he has to face lefty on lefty. Now he's a
(05:57):
natural switch hitter in his life, but he has to
face left handed hitters. He's getting base hints off of
these left handed hitters for the first time in his life.
But not only was he able to swing the batwell,
especially after being hurt he finished off his great day
to help the Texas Longhorns get the victory.
Speaker 4 (06:18):
So here's Kate McCoy working to him the left, he left,
he match up. He swings and lifts a high fly
ball left drifting back heel, still drifting, still drifting.
Speaker 3 (06:26):
Say good night to it.
Speaker 2 (06:27):
Ipo Taco.
Speaker 4 (06:29):
It drops into the Aggie bullpen. Adrian rod Riquez drops
a bomb just over the left field wall into the
bullpen and the Longhorns take us six to five lead.
Speaker 1 (06:41):
And not only was that a big time hit Ipo Taco,
as my man Craig Way so eloquently said it, it
set up what ended up being one of the greatest
endings to a series and kind of apropos when you
think about it.
Speaker 3 (06:58):
Here's the strench.
Speaker 4 (07:00):
I want two pinch for grumps, swam on ground, pole
hit to first and chucks let will throw the second
from one relay.
Speaker 3 (07:07):
The first bed time it's there.
Speaker 4 (07:10):
Bowl game over series sweep, The Logorns sweep the Aggies
by getting a double play, and Texas wins it six
to five.
Speaker 1 (07:22):
Six to five victory on a great weekend of baseball,
and coach Slapsnaggle, who obviously was at Texas A and
M had his opportunity to come to the University of Texas.
Speaker 3 (07:35):
This was the most highly.
Speaker 1 (07:37):
Anticipated weekend of college baseball when this when this matchup
was set, number two things happened. They wanted to see
where the series was going to be played. Number one
and number two, they wanted to see how everybody was
going to react to this.
Speaker 3 (07:55):
Series because Sark because SLA ends.
Speaker 1 (08:00):
Up leaving Texas A and M right after the College
World Series, takes a job with his good friend Chris
Deal counting. And we got a chance to talk to
Drew Martin on Saturday, who coach Slasnegle worked with Drew
In at TCU. With everything that's involved, so to say
(08:21):
that he's glad that the series.
Speaker 3 (08:23):
Was over is an understatement.
Speaker 1 (08:26):
Seven straight series that the Texas Longhorns have won in
the SEC. Seven straight series. And this is what he
had to say in the postgame.
Speaker 3 (08:39):
Coach I said to you a lot, but it's so true.
Speaker 5 (08:42):
The will to win sometimes is so important, and then
you got to perform when you get that opportunity.
Speaker 3 (08:48):
And your guys did that again today.
Speaker 6 (08:50):
We did what a great three game series, you know,
one run ball games, all three very well pitched certainly
by you know, their starting pitching, and Jason didn't get off.
Speaker 2 (09:01):
It didn't have a good day.
Speaker 6 (09:02):
But I told Dre that before the weekend, you're gonna
do something big this weekend.
Speaker 3 (09:06):
And he gave up.
Speaker 6 (09:07):
Some runs, but he but he just kept he kind
of held the line.
Speaker 3 (09:10):
You know, got us a lot of.
Speaker 6 (09:11):
Outs, kept us in the ball game, and we got
enough swings to get it done.
Speaker 5 (09:14):
You know, if that's where I was gonna go next,
it's it's what you needed outs. You got two on
in the second and you got to find a way
to get twenty three twenty for us because I knew
you didn't want to use you didn't want to use some.
Speaker 3 (09:26):
Of the guys in the back end.
Speaker 6 (09:27):
I mean I didn't have Grubs on the list until
the ninth inning. Max walks in says Grub Grubs wants
to pitch if.
Speaker 3 (09:32):
We need him, and I said.
Speaker 6 (09:34):
Well, let's see if we can squeeze it out with
Sonya a little bit. But you know, I mean, when
you're better in captain wants the ball, you got to
give it to him sometimes.
Speaker 3 (09:43):
And then the last thing is what a.
Speaker 5 (09:45):
Rod has done just going through this, you know, having
a hand not a switch hitter all of his life,
and now he's just come in and then have the
kind of ball game you did left handed day.
Speaker 6 (09:55):
I knew he could do it, you know, if we
just told him he could do it. But it's just
a matter of him, you know, having a confident used
to hanging there and see enough pitches, you know, just
get used.
Speaker 2 (10:02):
To it coming at him.
Speaker 6 (10:03):
And then once he starts staying on the ball to
left field that line drive, then you know, you know,
obviously the wind helped his homer, but he was on the.
Speaker 5 (10:11):
Baseball Congratulations, the heck of a victory.
Speaker 6 (10:14):
Okay, like cook him, cook them.
Speaker 2 (10:17):
You hear that he said, I knew he could do it.
I told him he can do it. That that confidence
the difference all of all the three games were one
point games, one score games. Coach slopsnigga was the difference
in those those one score games. And and and that's
(10:40):
that's the thing about coaching. Let me say good coaching.
Good coaching makes good teams great. It makes great teams
champions And I feel like he is making a great team,
a championship caliber team.
Speaker 1 (11:01):
Yeah, it's definitely one of those things that you continue
to look at and you say, wow, they find a
way to get it done. Speaking of getting it done,
those Texas Longhorn football players.
Speaker 3 (11:12):
Got it done.
Speaker 1 (11:13):
And we'll talk about it next, talk about it here
on the Morning Kickoff on sports Radio AM thirteen hundred
The Zone.
Speaker 3 (11:22):
Welcome back to.
Speaker 1 (11:22):
A Longhorns Monday edition of the Morning Kickoff right here
on sports Radio AM thirteen one hundred The Zone. As
we talked about before, the Texas Longhorse, the sweep the
Texas A and m fighting Aggie's.
Speaker 3 (11:38):
Right now, we're.
Speaker 1 (11:39):
Going to continue the conversations about the Texas Longhorn football
team as it had twelve players drafted in the twenty
twenty five draft.
Speaker 3 (11:49):
And think about this.
Speaker 1 (11:50):
Last year they had a eleven, so our over under
of thirteen. Mark we came up a little bit short.
I thought for sure we was gonna get over that number,
but the draft kind of was out of control and
it kept flipping back and forth, and you know, just
certain things didn't happen, So we were off a little
bit on the draft. But having twelve guys drafted is
(12:14):
amazing feat for the Texas Longhorns.
Speaker 2 (12:17):
Yeah, it's an amazing fee for any team like to
have that many players that is valued and right now
hard like it looks like there'll be more the same
next season, right, you know, it scares me to be
able to lose the guys we're losing next year, right.
I know they haven't got here yet, but I'm just saying, like,
(12:38):
let's feel to cover that.
Speaker 3 (12:40):
Think about this.
Speaker 1 (12:41):
Over the last two seasons, Texas has had twenty three
guys drafted, And to me, that tells you everything you
need to know about development. Yeah, you know, the conversation
has always been about Texas doesn't develop their guys. Texas
doesn't develop their guys. They had one guy drafted in
twenty twenty one. What and here they are over the
(13:04):
last two seasons with twenty three draft picks. And when
you put all of that together and you look at
what Georgia, you look at LSU, you look at those
other Alabama, BAMA, you look at those other programs, Texas
is the leader now in the last two seasons because
over the last two seasons, Texas had twenty three, Georgia's
(13:27):
had twenty one, Michigan had twenty, Ohio State eighteen, in
Oregon eighteen.
Speaker 3 (13:35):
Think about that.
Speaker 1 (13:36):
Then you also add in Texas now goes into that
vaunted SEC and.
Speaker 3 (13:42):
Guess what where did they go?
Speaker 1 (13:44):
Texas is part of the SEC and they are adding
to the seventy nine players that were drafted from the SEC.
Texas had twelve of those Big ten, seventy one, CC,
forty forty two, Big twelve, thirty one, Independence seven, Mountain
(14:07):
West six, AAC six, and the list goes on and on.
The Sunbelt only had one about Yeah, we're gonna keep
that moving. But you just start to think about the
development and what we've been able to see.
Speaker 3 (14:20):
We talked about recruiting.
Speaker 1 (14:22):
On Saturday, all those new players start talking about bringing
in twenty two freshman at the halfway point, guys that
left school early to come to the University of Texas
to get it acclimated to the university.
Speaker 2 (14:37):
Twenty two of those guys there was There was some
of them that were here Saturday. Yeah, did you see
the carts driving by with the There was one kid.
I don't know where he's from, but he can barely fit.
Speaker 3 (14:54):
In the cart.
Speaker 2 (14:55):
Am I making this up?
Speaker 3 (14:56):
No?
Speaker 2 (14:56):
Yeah, I'm not making this. I've said hard. It looked
like somebody tried to shove a giraffe in one of
those cards.
Speaker 3 (15:07):
That dude was huge.
Speaker 2 (15:09):
Bring him. I don't care what position he played, like,
sign him, no doubt. I got twenty seven cent that
I could throw on the rest of that nil for
you seven c Hey, listen, I got more than two Nicholas.
But I man, listen, it's gonna take a lot to
get that guy.
Speaker 1 (15:26):
Bet whoa no doubt, one of those guys that we
were talking about and we've continued to talk about throughout
his time on the forty Acres is Baron Surrel. Baron
Surrell was somebody that all he did was continue to work,
continue to work, continue to work. Baron Surrell was invited
(15:49):
to Green Bay for the draft. Obviously, Baron Serell didn't
go early in the draft. But you know what Baron
Surrell actually did. He's stuck around in Green Bay, didn't
come home, stayed there, and he got his name called
Bye Roger Goodell.
Speaker 3 (16:09):
And here's that there's a special pick, not just because
it's the Packers.
Speaker 2 (16:14):
This young man is.
Speaker 7 (16:15):
Here today, so we want to introduce him, so give
him a good round of pause. With the one hundred
and twenty fourth pick in the twenty twenty five NFL Draft,
the Green Bay Packers select Baron Serell defensive end Texas.
Speaker 2 (16:32):
And here's why the commissioner came out to announce it,
because Baron Serell has been in the green room this
entire time and here he is.
Speaker 6 (16:44):
Wow.
Speaker 3 (16:45):
Good for him sticking around. Pretty cool.
Speaker 8 (16:48):
Now.
Speaker 9 (16:48):
I don't think he had any expectation of night one,
but I think there was a thought that yesterday was
going to be possibly beat his day. If I love
the fact that he's stuck it out here, he is
getting his moment.
Speaker 3 (16:59):
He buys me of with Geno Smith stuck it out, Remember.
Speaker 9 (17:01):
That came back the next day and got his moment.
Kevin King did that years ago. This is pretty cool
for this young man. Gino was just a second round.
It wasn't a very long way, but everyone thought he
was a locked first rounder and came back the second
day with not the suit but the sweater and ty
cow voter they had to go pick up for.
Speaker 1 (17:22):
And that's what it's all about, man, The dedication and
the thing about it.
Speaker 3 (17:25):
Man. We talked about it, Mark.
Speaker 1 (17:28):
This is something that you work here behind all four
That's why you lift all them weights, That's why you
run those heels. This is what you work out for
when you're playing whatever sport it may be, whether it's football, basketball, baseball, soccer, hockey,
you work your behind off as a kid to get
(17:50):
the opportunity to go to college, and then when you
get to college, you bust your behind to get the
opportunity to get to the NFL.
Speaker 3 (17:58):
And for him, that goal was a chieved.
Speaker 2 (18:01):
Can I can I pat myself on the back of
a little bit what I told y'all that it was gonna
be Baron Surrell and that it.
Speaker 3 (18:09):
Was gonna be Jayden Blue.
Speaker 2 (18:11):
And I was told at the table at the draft
when we did our party that I don't know about
Jaydon Blue. He'll be he'll be a free agent signing.
Speaker 3 (18:23):
Who told you that our only Craig White?
Speaker 2 (18:28):
Okay, I'm tired of being right, goodness, tired of being right.
I told you Baron Serell is one of those guys.
I never saw one guy block him. He got chipped,
he would he would get inside on guys and he
had to spin move.
Speaker 3 (18:47):
He had the bob, he had the bull rush. He
was so versatile, like he had he had everything he needed.
Speaker 2 (18:55):
I think that the one thing that he don't have
that I hope somebody gets with him.
Speaker 3 (19:01):
Is a diet.
Speaker 2 (19:03):
He needs ten more pounds of muscle, not ten more
pounds just like of acting weight massive.
Speaker 3 (19:10):
But he's if he's.
Speaker 2 (19:11):
Gonna if he's gonna play with power the way that
he mostly starts with power, He's not Dwight Freeny where
he uses the spin move and everything is based off
of the spin move.
Speaker 3 (19:24):
He attacks guys first.
Speaker 2 (19:27):
So if power is your ultimate weapon, then he's gonna
have to develop it more. The second thing is, I
want to see what his cleaning jerk looks like. I
want to see his vertical jump, his long jump. I
want to see alternating isometric movements to make him more explosive.
Speaker 3 (19:46):
He's gonna he's not gonna have to do that anymore.
He's drafted. They did that.
Speaker 2 (19:50):
No, no, no, you got it. This is where it
starts the NFL. Like he's gonna have to go in
there and be more explosive than the guys that he's
playing against. These offensive attacks was in the NFL hard,
they's the average sixty five, sixty six, three hundred pounds.
He's not gonna go against these two hundred and eighty
five pounds college tackles no more.
Speaker 3 (20:13):
He needs to be more explosive.
Speaker 2 (20:14):
Hopefully his team gets with him and say listen, now
the work starts.
Speaker 1 (20:19):
Well, he's somebody that I've always been fond of. I
think that each year, Yeah, I'm a gut better and
better and better. He had forty starts in forty nine
career games. He had forty four tackles, sixteen solo. He
was voted the top defensive lineman at the Senior Bowl.
So he made some noise for himself. And he is
(20:43):
definitely a guy that I'm very happy has a chance.
I mean, when you start looking at the draft and
what went on. Kelvin Banks to the Saints, Jade Barn
first rounder to Denver Broncos, Matthew Golden a first rounder
to Green Bay. Those two guys are gonna be on
the same team together. So that's pretty dog gone cool.
(21:03):
Second round you had Alfred Collins. Third second round you
had Andrew mccouba, and third round you had Vernon. It
has already been brought in. Then you get into Gunner,
Helm Baron, Surrell, cam Williams, Jayden Blue, the list goes
on and on, Hayden Connor and Quinn Yours. These are special,
(21:24):
special moments when you start to think about this Texas
football team and the foundation that these teams had with
these younger players, it is something that I'm excited for.
I'm excited about and I can't be even more proud
of what we've seen over these years.
Speaker 2 (21:42):
As we talk, I hate that I have to hate
and now well and Williams him, Yeah, they are all
Philadelphia Eagles.
Speaker 1 (21:53):
Two of them are Philadelphia Eagles. I ain't getting no
jersey for him though, so it is what it is.
But I'm proud of them. I'm happy for those guys
and now they get to continue to chase their dreams.
Speaker 3 (22:06):
Coming up next in the Hard Knox Life, I'm.
Speaker 1 (22:09):
Gonna talk more about these draft grades and.
Speaker 3 (22:13):
Can we talk about this Shador Sanders situation.
Speaker 1 (22:16):
I'm gonna tell you why it's not gonna be what
you think it is right here on the morning kickoff
on sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone. Welcome back
to the men to get off right here on sports
Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone. As I sit here
right now and think about this NFL Draft and the
opportunities that we're out there, you start to look at
(22:39):
all of these teams and try to see what their
draft grades are, and we'll continue those conversations. But one
of the biggest stories obviously was about Chadeur Sanders and
Shadeur Sanders finally gets his name called by a team
that was originally supposed to be the team I was
(23:00):
going to draft them. It was just gonna be four
rounds earlier, Shador Sanders going in the fifth round to
the Cleveland Browns. Now here's the situation for me when
it comes to this. The situation that cleans up is
(23:24):
he finally gets drafted.
Speaker 3 (23:26):
Situation's gonna be what it is.
Speaker 1 (23:29):
But it seemed like there was some collusion when it
comes to this type of stuff when you have I'm
just gonna go seems I'm not gonna accuse anybody of collusion,
but on the surface, it seems as such.
Speaker 3 (23:48):
And I had some.
Speaker 1 (23:49):
Friends that have obviously been around the game and got
some guys that coach in the NFL that I spoke
with over the weekend, and this seems to be more
about the power struggle. Here's the thing, Dion Sanders is
not going to be the one playing. Dion Sanders is
not going to be the one coaching. So why do
(24:14):
you always seem to penalize the kids for something that
the parents do right.
Speaker 2 (24:22):
That to me.
Speaker 3 (24:25):
Is the biggest problem.
Speaker 1 (24:27):
And not only that, what father of an NBA, NFL,
Major League hockey all have something to say about where
their kids are gonna?
Speaker 3 (24:43):
Ain't knowing to all do? So?
Speaker 1 (24:45):
Why don't understand why people keep putting this on Dion?
Speaker 3 (24:51):
Now?
Speaker 1 (24:51):
In Shadeur's defense, he said himself after everything was done
that he should have handled a lot differently that right there.
Number one shows me humility maturity. Number two shows some maturity,
and number three reading the room is something that I
think a lot of people don't ever truly understand, and
(25:16):
I think more people, instead of being the first to bash,
the first to break the story, get everything right first
before you decide that this is where you want to be.
Speaker 3 (25:30):
I could care less.
Speaker 1 (25:31):
There's so much stuff that you and I know behind
the scenes on so many different issues that I don't
care to bring to the forefront.
Speaker 3 (25:39):
No, because it's not my place.
Speaker 1 (25:42):
When the stories come out, we talk about it, but
a lot of things that we are privy to we
don't always bring to the table. But then it takes
me back to the prank call. I've never ever in
my life thought that was funny. There has not been
(26:06):
one time that I've called somebody and pretended I was
somebody else, especially especially on the biggest days of other
people's lives. It's not cool. It's not fun, and I
don't find the humor in any of It's not And
(26:30):
that is why it frustrates me to all get out
when a coach a coach.
Speaker 3 (26:38):
But what made him feel like that he was allowed.
Speaker 2 (26:42):
That that that that comes from disrespect and thinking it's okay, right?
What was What did he hear in that room with
his father and other people of that made him say,
you know what, man, I'm inflated joke right because of
(27:06):
disrespect for the Layton disrespect.
Speaker 3 (27:09):
For those that don't know.
Speaker 1 (27:11):
To recap this story, on one of the coaches for
the Atlanta Falcons, his son did a prank call to
Shador Sanders. He went across his dad's iPad, came across
the contact number, grabbed the number and called him to
(27:32):
prank him to say that he was getting drafted by
X team.
Speaker 3 (27:37):
That's not funny.
Speaker 10 (27:38):
I can tell you what made him think that was okay.
He's never faced consequences before.
Speaker 2 (27:45):
Well, I mean the psycho analyzed. I don't know how
old this guy is. He's a twenty one year old kid. Yeah,
so's he's old enoughing no better. But is he involved
in the organization?
Speaker 3 (27:58):
Well I doubt that.
Speaker 10 (27:59):
But no, he's They're a segment of people who've never
been confronted face to face about doing stupid things. That's
what I think it was, and that's why I think
he thought that was funny, because he's never had to
face someone after he done something like this to him.
Speaker 1 (28:16):
Well, it's coming, Well, I mean it's coming. But here's
the other part of the consequence. Your father now may
lose his job. Your father may be suspended, and he
may be fined.
Speaker 2 (28:26):
They should lose a draft pick, definitely, the league should
say this should have never happen. We are exempt from
the whole ordeal of it. Well, in fact, we're gonna
find them and they're gonna lose a draft pick in
the first round next year.
Speaker 1 (28:46):
Cooper, then you got a problem. Cooper Dejon got prank called.
Other players got print called as well. But the story
was about what you heard from Shador Sanders. He was
the one that was the more high profiles. He was
the one that was the most talked about. He was
the guy that ended up getting the sound of it all.
(29:08):
Tyler Warren, the tight end that ended up from Penn State.
He got prank called Kyle McCord, former quarterback from Ohio State.
That is that Syracuse. He got prank called no, just
by different people. And again, I don't understand why people
think prank calling is funny.
Speaker 3 (29:31):
I don't.
Speaker 1 (29:32):
It's just those games. I'm too old for those games.
But you know what, You're too.
Speaker 2 (29:37):
Old and too polished hard for that kind of activity.
Speaker 3 (29:42):
But it's because of the law.
Speaker 2 (29:45):
The law allows people to get away with stupid and
insensitive behavior because oh, it's just the prank not realizing
that guy has spent their whole lives to get that. Yep.
Speaker 3 (30:02):
And it's like getting a fake lotto ticket.
Speaker 2 (30:05):
You'll get somebody a fake lotto ticket and they go
to redeem it and it goes ah hai.
Speaker 1 (30:12):
Well, I definitely don't want to see that. Don't play
with me with lot. It's the same thing because I'm
looking for that money.
Speaker 2 (30:18):
Name the same thing.
Speaker 3 (30:25):
We're gonna get you some counselor man.
Speaker 2 (30:28):
Listen, I'm over here trying to be serious, are you are?
Speaker 1 (30:30):
But look Congratulations to Shadors, congratulations to Quinn, and congratulations
to all those that get an opportunity but quit playing
with the people's emotions.
Speaker 3 (30:41):
Smoky, it's not that fun. It's not coming up next.
Speaker 1 (30:45):
I'm gonna tell you somebody that's having way too much fun,
and that's Bill Belichick.
Speaker 3 (30:50):
But he doesn't look comfortable at his fun.
Speaker 1 (30:53):
We'll talk about it right here on the morning kickoff
on sports Radio HEYM thirteen hundred The Zone.
Speaker 3 (30:59):
Welcome back to the More and kick off right.
Speaker 1 (31:00):
Here on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone. I
told you at the beginning of the show you would
have an opportunity to win some tickets, and what better
way than to give away some tickets.
Speaker 3 (31:14):
That's right, Judas Priest.
Speaker 1 (31:17):
You want those opportunity to win some Judas Priest tickets. Well,
guess what, folks, I'm about to give it to you
right now. All you got to do is get over
to AM thirteen hundred The Zone on the iHeartRadio app,
search that red microphone, tap it and leave.
Speaker 3 (31:34):
The word Turbo Turbo for.
Speaker 1 (31:37):
A chance to win Alice Cooper and Judas Priest tickets
at the Germania Insurance Amphitheater October the twenty fifth. All
you got to leave do is leave the word turbo
turbo for a chance to win those tickets. All right,
let's get into this because this is.
Speaker 3 (31:57):
Crazy to me. This is really really crazy to me.
Speaker 1 (32:01):
As you know, Bill Belichick is now the head coach
for the North Carolina tar Heels. It has been much
talked about. Everybody thought he was going to take a
year off and then get back into the NFL. People
thought that they were crazy in Atlanta to not accept Bill,
to not hire Bill because he's a champion.
Speaker 3 (32:22):
They said that Robert Kraft had kind.
Speaker 1 (32:26):
Of blackballed him, talk negatively about him, I mean, just
everything that you could possibly do to not get this
guy higher. And we were like, no, Bill's funny. Bill's
changed his ways, He's done some different things. Then the
noise comes out about Bill Belichick dating a twenty four
year old and people are like, well, I mean, why
(32:47):
does that even matter.
Speaker 3 (32:49):
It doesn't matter how old she is.
Speaker 1 (32:51):
Well, you're right, it doesn't matter how old she is.
It matters how old Bill is. And Bill is seventy
years old and he is dating a twenty four year
old young lady.
Speaker 3 (33:06):
So now you sit.
Speaker 1 (33:07):
There and You're like, wait a minute, what's really going on. Well,
you find out that she is now working for the
University of North Carolina. She's helping, she's coaching, she's doing
all kinds of things, and now she's also sitting in on.
Speaker 3 (33:25):
Bill Belichick's interviews.
Speaker 1 (33:27):
Bill Belichick was on the show yesterday CBS Good Morning
and was interviewed, and he was asked a bunch of
questions that she did not want him to answer.
Speaker 8 (33:39):
Wants Auto experienced correctly, He's not even in the acknowledgment
session correct. Do you feel like you were treating with
dignity and respect when you were like a Byron A Craft.
You're a post initial decision for for US apartment and
(34:02):
he's had fired.
Speaker 3 (34:03):
It was a minutostism.
Speaker 11 (34:07):
The other change for Villa Chick is twenty four year
old Jordan Hudson, his creative News. As he writes in
his book, Jordan was a constant presence during our interview.
Speaker 3 (34:21):
You have Jordan right over there.
Speaker 8 (34:24):
Everybody in the world thinks to follow in this relationship.
Speaker 3 (34:27):
We have an opinion about your private life. He's had
nothing to do with them, but they're invested in it.
Speaker 8 (34:32):
I didn't think of that never been to worry about
with everybody else and just try to do what I
feel like his desperate man and that's right.
Speaker 3 (34:40):
How did you guys mean?
Speaker 8 (34:42):
Who I'm talking about this?
Speaker 11 (34:45):
It's a topic neither one of them is comfortable commenting on,
though Hudson has recently posted about it on Instagram when you.
Speaker 8 (34:53):
Joined instaface, as you put it, there's some great pictures
of him and Jordan and where you're fisherman, is j
made charming the different side of you? What's the reaction
be like? What's it been like to have these different sorts?
Is that one where you're doing I know, you're getting
a meditation or you have an applaudie, you're balancing towards
(35:16):
on your feat.
Speaker 3 (35:16):
She's doing kind of the Titanic post.
Speaker 8 (35:21):
And so I'm on some of these social media platforms
on stay home phone awkward?
Speaker 3 (35:31):
Can you say awkward?
Speaker 1 (35:33):
He kept looking at her every time a question was
being asked. He would look at her to get clearance
to talk about it. You saw that she was interjecting
in it, and if you hadn't seen the video of
her at practices, it is something that has a lot
of folks really worried about what's going on with Bill Belichick.
Speaker 3 (35:56):
Look, let's be honest.
Speaker 1 (35:58):
I know people think that this stuff is fun and
he's just having a good time. I truly am worried
about what's going on with Bill Belichick.
Speaker 3 (36:09):
This is not going to end well. I don't think
it's ever was going to end well.
Speaker 2 (36:16):
And I'm not a hater.
Speaker 3 (36:17):
Let my man do what he does.
Speaker 1 (36:19):
But it seems to me as if this situation with
her and what's going on is going to be troublesome
for those that are all involved. They didn't want Bill
Belichick to do certain things. He's been continuing to do it.
Even the question about what went on with him and
(36:41):
Robert Kraft did not seem to be good for one
Bill Belichick. If you can go and search the entire
audio of that, I know people are gonna be like, well,
you know it was edited, Now go watch the whole thing.
Speaker 3 (36:58):
It is very, very weird.
Speaker 1 (37:01):
And sometimes sometimes when when it looks like that that's
exactly what it is, it becomes that and Bill Belichick's
situation does not look like a healthy situation. Bill is
seventy three years old, and she is telling him, don't
(37:25):
talk about that, don't do this.
Speaker 3 (37:27):
Don't do that. He's seventy three.
Speaker 1 (37:33):
Those are the types of things that make you wonder
what exactly it is that has been controlling this situation.
She set in on the interviews. Do you think Bill
had that many people sitting in on his interviews before?
Speaker 3 (37:48):
I think not.
Speaker 1 (37:49):
Did Bill not answer any of the questions the pertinent ones?
I think he did not answer those questions. So we
will continue to try to figure out what is going
on with Bill Belichick, what is going on with this relationship.
Speaker 3 (38:05):
And more importantly, is North Carolina dealing.
Speaker 1 (38:10):
With something that they never had to deal with with
Mac Brown when our guy Mac Brown was running things
in Chapel Hill. I am definitely gonna be paying a
lot of attention.
Speaker 3 (38:22):
To this situation.
Speaker 1 (38:24):
Our number one is in the books, our number two
is just around the corner. We'll talk NBA, We'll still
talk NFL. Mark's world's strongest take, and of course we
gotta finish it out talking about QB one and what
he means to the Texas Longhorn right here on the
morning kickoff on sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone,
(38:47):
Welcome back to our number two on a Longhorn Monday
edition of the morning kickoff right here on sports Radio
AM thirteen hundred, The Zone and now our number one.
We talked a lot about the Texas Longhorns and what
they were able to do against the Aggies. We also
talked about the draft picks and how Texas is now
(39:08):
the place of development. We gave grades out and Bill Belichick, Man,
that whole situation just drives me nuts. But let's get
right into it. The NBA has been fantastic. The battles,
the toughness, the NFL style of the NBA has been
(39:28):
something that has been kind of out of control and
it continues to be that way. Over the weekend, we
saw the Nuggets and the Clippers come down to the
very end and a buzzer beater was made.
Speaker 3 (39:42):
We also saw the.
Speaker 1 (39:42):
Cleveland Cavaliers destroy the Miami Heat and what is really
going on down there. The Thunder got rid of the
Grizzlies in a four to zero sweep and showing you
why they were the best team in the NBA.
Speaker 3 (39:59):
And the Warriors in the Rocket.
Speaker 1 (40:00):
Steph Curry set out the bat signal, Jimmy Butler set
out the bat signal, and it was all about Steph Curry.
We'll get into the Lakers in just a moment. But
let's get into this conversation because as you look at
this weekend and what you were able to see, the
Clippers and the Nuggets decided, you know what, it's about
(40:23):
time for us to put hands on each other.
Speaker 11 (40:28):
Pardon with it, crown O the fend screams, robots foul
right there with Denver having a fouled again.
Speaker 3 (40:35):
Oh we got pushing, Oh we got a shove. It's
right in front of us.
Speaker 2 (40:43):
See if you're Gordon, you don't need it as valuable
as you've been playing.
Speaker 8 (40:50):
Larn.
Speaker 1 (40:51):
That's what it's all about right there. We talk about
playoff basketball, Mark, we talk about getting it in. But
this is something that I was saying from the very beginning.
I understand playoff basketball. I understand having physicality, but dude,
these referees have to get this game under control. You
(41:11):
heard Jalen Brown of Boston. He talked about it. He said,
I guess we're just gonna have to fight. And now
these types of moments that we're starting to see, the
chippiness of all of this is now getting to the
point now where it's not even basketball.
Speaker 2 (41:28):
It's across the board, right like every game that I
watched had chippiness in it because lack of control from
the referees and the standard in which it is set.
As long as I can remember, before the game, the
referees always went out with the captains and said, guys,
(41:50):
this is the way we're gonna coach it. This is
the way we're gonna ref it. This is the way
that it's gonna be. You get outside of that, I'm
calling a foul. Yup if you If you get a
little bit any non basketball related players, I'm calling the technical.
Get ready. If your best player is off the floor
(42:11):
and a half, it's your fault because you're the team captain.
To take responsibility. Y'all go out and have a good game.
The referees are not controlling, no more. I agree, they're
not controlling. They're not doing that. When was the last
time you saw the captains met that at the half?
Remember when Magic and Isaiah used to kiss cheeks? I know,
(42:39):
but but but they that used to be a thing.
They don't do it no more. So they need to.
They need to go back and get the coaches. I
would I wouldn't even bring the players on the floor
no more. I bring the coaches out, Hey, tell your team,
it's gonna be a tightly officiated game. It's gonna be
like a you tonight because y'all can't control yourselves, so
(43:03):
we gotta do it. Yeah, so I'm gonna leave it
right there.
Speaker 1 (43:07):
Well, and for the way that that game ended, it
was the Joker who had another almost triple double again
thirty six, twenty one and eight.
Speaker 2 (43:17):
He got fouled so many times that I just stopped
counting right right, But and he was visibly frustrated to
the point to where, when's the last time you saw
the Joker on to fight somebody?
Speaker 3 (43:31):
That's what I'm saying.
Speaker 1 (43:32):
Like that, that is why the physicality of the game
has got to be more under control.
Speaker 3 (43:37):
I love the game.
Speaker 1 (43:38):
My son told me last night that it's just just
playoff basketball. That's like the old days. They need they
need more odds on the TV. No, it's not even
fun to watch. It's not fun to watch. But the
Joker being the Joker, and he got a little help
from one Aaron Gordon.
Speaker 2 (43:54):
Shoe box Shun Gordon.
Speaker 7 (44:05):
They're gonna take a look at it.
Speaker 1 (44:09):
And they did beat the buzzer and there were multiple
angles they went back and forth, and because they called
it good on the court, they saw it happen. So
now that series is tied. After the one oh one
ninety nine victory of the Nuggets over the Clippers. As
I talked about the Cavaliers continue to dominate against the Heat,
(44:30):
I don't know what's going on with the Heat. This
has been a big challenge for them. So what's on
to the next? The Thunder and the Grizzlies. We knew
that wasn't gonna happen.
Speaker 2 (44:41):
We use you so nice. You're one of the nicest
people I know. Try because you do know what's wrong
with the grizz I mean with the Heat. But they
trade away Jimmy Butler, the best player because they can't
come to an agreement on the financials and power struggle
and all of that stuff. We are I already said
that Bam out of Beao is a glorified role player.
(45:04):
He's not an elite elite player, right, and Tyler hero
as good as he is, he is a valuable piece,
but he is not him He's not the focal point.
He shouldn't ever, And we talked about that. Yeah, the
Heat culture and how hard they play and all of
that plays a part in it. But hard you know,
(45:25):
you're being very respectful. I'm trying to appreciate it.
Speaker 1 (45:27):
I'm trying to Another big time matchup was the Knicks
and the Pistons. Day two are scrappy coming down the fights.
It's one of those games we're starting to see k
Cunnaham become the player that he is. Another triple double,
but he got a triple double and a loss. Jalen Brunson.
They put the ball in his hands, but cat Cat
(45:49):
Karl Anthony Towns was clutch of all clutch last night
and it was impressive to see. But the story, the
story is the Timberwolves in the I could not wait
to get in here today. Mark, come and talk to
you about your squad, your Lakers squad, Lebron James. Mister,
I'm about to be the superstar with this team. But
(46:13):
Anthony Edwards, Anthony Edwards becomes a star in the making
and no backing down on what he was able to do.
And we was asked about Lebron James and why.
Speaker 3 (46:25):
We here.
Speaker 12 (46:27):
Anthon game three, you and Lebron were We saw you
laughing together today you were getting very physical with him,
pushing the what's been, what's been like to go against him?
And where you're trying to make a point when you
wrestled him a little bit there.
Speaker 13 (46:41):
Yeah, it's gonna be physical. Man, I'm gonna say I
was trying to make a point. But just let him
know that we hear you like, we ain't just gonna
you ain't just gonna push us around all night. I mean,
because I'm not gonna lie.
Speaker 3 (46:51):
He's strong.
Speaker 13 (46:52):
It's hard to keep him from like he posted me up.
He got all the way to the rim. I was
glad he missed the layup, but he had a lot
stronger than me. But lett him know that we're gonna
be here all night and I'm gonna be a pest
to him. Whenever I get on him, I gonna try
to get up under his skin.
Speaker 2 (47:06):
Hard you you want, you couldn't wait to get in
my face and tell me how about my team? Well,
I'm gonna tell you something hard. It ain't about the players.
It's about the coach. Oh my goodness, he yah, we go, No,
let me finish, Let me finish. They brought JJ Redick
(47:26):
in to do a job, and now JJ Redick is
gonna have to be public he's gonna have to say
Lucas is gonna have to play through fouls. He's he
can't flop. They're not gonna call every flop. And then
once you once you put it on paper. As a coach,
we gotta work better with Lebron finishing shots. Lebron is
(47:48):
so confident that sometimes he just is very lack a
days ago, and it's finished when you put the pressure
on your elites. Everybody else know the Lakers, others they
played well enough to beat them. They played the main guys.
Did not play to the standard of the main guys.
(48:11):
Regardless of how many points, rebounds and assists they had.
It's all the intangible things that they didn't follow up
on and a lot of that. There were two points
when the Lakers had leads, they should have called timeouts
and they didn't. JJ Reddick allowed his team to play
(48:33):
through problems because he had two strong leaders on the
floor and it's his job to do it. So just
do your job.
Speaker 3 (48:44):
Well, here's the deal, those leaders that are on the floor.
Speaker 1 (48:47):
He gave him those titles because Lebron Jaye and Luka
Doncics are supposed to be the stars. Lebron James did
not take but two shots in the fourth quarter, and
then he passed the ball when the game was on
the line to Austin Reeves.
Speaker 3 (49:04):
Right play, right basketball play.
Speaker 1 (49:06):
But Lebron James is the guy that has to take
those shots and he's got to be more effective in
the fourth quarter.
Speaker 3 (49:12):
And Lebron talked about the turnover under ten seconds.
Speaker 2 (49:18):
All the time.
Speaker 14 (49:19):
You know, Hannah's part of the ball, that's what they say.
I feel like the hand was a part of that ball.
I was able to get his hand on top of
the ball. The ball stripped down out on himself. I've
seen that play over and over before, but it is.
Speaker 2 (49:33):
What it is.
Speaker 1 (49:35):
Well, he better get it figured out because the way
that this game is being played, they may be going
to Galveston one of them.
Speaker 3 (49:43):
They are headed to vacation.
Speaker 1 (49:46):
And the misery which is and the trade that was
made is going to make Nico Harrison look a lot
better because at Luca still ain't playing no defense. When
we come back, we're gonna get bet into the n
f of l who were some of the biggest conferences.
I think we know, but there was a lot of
(50:08):
power fors that made their impact on the NFL Draft
we'll talk about it right here on the Morning Kickoff
on sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone. Welcome back
to the morning kickoff right here on sports Radio AM
thirteen hundred The Zone. The NBA has been really, really fun,
but it's been a lot like football, So let's get
(50:30):
back into some football. The Dallas Cowboys do what they
do when it comes to the NFL Draft. We've all
sat back, we heard the grades. We gave the Cowboys
a grade of an A in the first hour, and
that's what a lot of folks are looking at. But
the one thing about the Cowboys that we continue to
(50:50):
understand about them is they always go safe. They always
making their draft picks and making them safe draft picks.
So when you start to look at what was needed,
we happen to be at the Texas Fan Fast Day
when we saw that Jaden Blue got his name called
(51:12):
by the Dallas Cowboys. You look at what that means,
and that means that there's an opportunity for Jaden Blue,
the home run hitter that we were looking for in
the backfield for the Dallas Cowboys.
Speaker 3 (51:26):
He was able to make some plays.
Speaker 1 (51:28):
You look at the defensive side of the ball and
some of the guys that they were able to go
out and pick, and if you look at the Cowboys draft,
they pretty much drafted all defense.
Speaker 3 (51:42):
All defense they needed.
Speaker 1 (51:43):
The first they got Booker on the offensive line, and
they got Jayden Blue in the top five rounds as
the offense. But the rest of that they decided that
they wanted to go deep into the defensive side of
the ball.
Speaker 2 (51:57):
You know, they did exactly what we said that they
need to do last year after the season, we said
they need two big guys on the inside that three
hundred and fifty pounds that you're not pushing them backwards.
They got two, yep, and those guys are only gonna
play hard fifteen plays a game, fifteen plays maybe maybe
(52:23):
twenty between the two of them. Then they got another
guy that is a sideline of sideline Mavin like Michael Parsons.
And that's gonna hold true until we get Agent zero back,
the real Agent zero. I have very little faith in Digs,
(52:47):
So I'm very glad that we got another corner. And
the linebacker position was very thin and they were able
to correct that. But more than anything that Cowboys did
in the draft is they got a guy that on
third down. He's powerful enough to run between the tackles
(53:12):
and it can run all the zone reads stuff and
sprint option and RPO stuff, but he can line up
in the backfield and come out and run a legit
route and take it to the house. Cowboys needed that bad.
Speaker 3 (53:27):
Home run here.
Speaker 2 (53:28):
They still need to get another wide receiver. That's the
only like And I don't think you're gonna do it
with an undrafted free agent. You need to go after
a veteran guy. Uh. And my, my, my guy's more.
I think if they go get more more, don't drop
the ball. He's a legit threat in the NFL. He
(53:51):
proved that he can. You know, he's a fringe uh,
guy that can be a Pro Bowl type player. He
having never had the opportunity to be a number one
or a one B.
Speaker 3 (54:06):
Well, for me with the.
Speaker 1 (54:07):
Cowboys and looking at this team and what they're trying
to build around, you're right. I mean they never went
out and got that wide receiver. They believe that they
have some guys in the building that they that they
trust to be put in this situation. But it was
definitely something that initially we thought was going to be
important to that success. When you look at what Cedee
(54:28):
Lamb Ceedee Lamb still had over a thousand yards and
over one hundred catches. I mean, he still got the ball.
Even though he was the feature, they still found ways
to scheme him up to get open.
Speaker 2 (54:39):
But I agree with you.
Speaker 1 (54:40):
I mean, there's still got to be a guy that
you bring in to kind of offset what we've been
able to see from this team.
Speaker 2 (54:50):
As I but that wasn't the number one problem. The
number one problem is third down and one third down
and two fourth down and one Cowboys cannot get a yard.
Speaker 1 (55:01):
Yeah, but I don't think Jayden blew as fast as
It's got to be something that you got to get
some push up front for him to be able to
skirt through there. But I'm looking at this wide receiver
group for the Dallas Cowboys. Jalen Tolbert, Jonathan Mingo, who
the Cowboys loved for some reason, went out traded for
(55:21):
him before that when he was coming out in the draft,
he was on their draft board, so they.
Speaker 3 (55:27):
Believed in him.
Speaker 1 (55:30):
That's why they went out and got brought him back.
And of course you got CD, but you still have
Jalen Brooks. You have a guy that they just brought
in from Texas Tech named Josh Kelly. He is there,
I don't know, but he's a college free agent, so
you know, and you brought in Paris Paris Campbell. But
Paris Campbell's that's a long time the game. Yeah, that's
(55:54):
something totally different. So there is still that area of
concern when you think of the Dallas Cowboys. But you
also have to look at, Okay, how healthy is Dak
Prescott going to be? I thought they would sign somebody
in free agency as a backup quarterback. I thought they
were going to take either Quinn Yours or Shador Sanders
(56:14):
late in the draft because they were on the board,
And if they thought they were that talented, why not
bring those guys in? But I digress. But you look
at this Cowboy team and you start to believe that
they want to get better. And Schottenheimer decided that, Hey,
all we want to do is build a football team.
Speaker 15 (56:35):
That's an incredible compliment. You know, it's the way it
should be. You know, this is important. You know we're
building a team. We're truly building a team. We're not
just collecting talent, and that's the most important part.
Speaker 1 (56:50):
We're not just collecting talent, because it doesn't matter how
much talent you have on the bench if your team
isn't winning. It doesn't matter how much you think you
know when you don't and you don't have it right.
And so for everybody that's a Cowboy fan, I think
you can look at this draft and say, Okay, it
(57:10):
wasn't There wasn't a lot of flare to this draft
for the Cowboys. There wasn't in the rastlash. They didn't
have a lot of pop when the names were being called.
The fans were like, Uh, okay, all right, let's look
him up. Let's see what's going on. So those moments
are a little bit different. But when you head down south,
(57:31):
then you go to h Town and you start to
look at what their draft looked like. They went out
and got some playmakers, They went out and got some
guys on that offensive line.
Speaker 2 (57:42):
They did the things that they had to do to
fix and sure up that offensive line. But again they
did go out and get a Jaden Higgins in the
second round. They got a Jalen Noel in the third round,
the offensive lineman that they have, the left tackle they
got in the second round, and they got a running
(58:03):
back in the fourth round, So they have done some
things that this is a team that was already good. Yeah,
Houston did. They did a good job of getting two
receivers that weren't the same guy. They got one that
will blow the top off the joint and then they
got one that'll go across the middle and try to
make you pay. So I think they did an awesome
(58:25):
job in evaluating the two wide receivers that they brought in,
and they really needed those guys with you know, dal
being out for the rest of the year and he
may not play until the tenth week in the game
of the season.
Speaker 1 (58:41):
And it's funny too, because if your name is Jaden
or Jaylen, you got a good chance to play for
the Texans. They gonna give you an opportunity. Oh your
name j oh, yeah, you got a chance to play
for it. It's kind of like you've been a cowboy
named Tyler, right, yeah, gonna be on the team, the team.
(59:02):
You're gonna see what you got when it comes to that.
So you start looking at all of these teams, and again,
the Cowboys, you would consider them one of the better teams,
one of the better drafted teams as of right now.
Speaker 3 (59:15):
Then you look at what the Texans was able to
do as well. And these are.
Speaker 1 (59:21):
Teams that needed to have good drafts, that wanted to
have good drafts, but most importantly, they did have good drafts.
So we'll see how this all plays out. Obviously, many
camps are about to start. You got the rookie camps
that are getting ready to get it in. So football
season is what four months away, But those months go,
(59:43):
they're gonna go fast, especially for those kids that are
now not watching.
Speaker 2 (59:47):
No more basketball, So I'm already focusing on football.
Speaker 3 (59:50):
Oh you're not watching them? About the Lakers' taking your talent?
Speaker 2 (59:58):
Those where I'm taking my to Galveston.
Speaker 1 (01:00:02):
You gotta make some adjustments and go down there and
hang out in that dirty water.
Speaker 3 (01:00:06):
Are you gonna see?
Speaker 2 (01:00:08):
Hey, there's some great shrimping in the dirty waters.
Speaker 3 (01:00:11):
A lot of dirty shrimp in them dirty waters.
Speaker 1 (01:00:14):
Coming up next, you know what time it is, it's
the w WE Hall of Famer v Mark Henry, the
World's strongest man, doing what he does and bringing you
the world's strongest take. And this is one that you're
not going to want to miss. Coming up next, the
world's strongest take right here on the morning kickoff on
Sports Radio Am thirteen hundred design.
Speaker 3 (01:00:37):
You heard that be drop, so you know it can
only mean one thing.
Speaker 1 (01:00:41):
WWE Hall of Famer and the World's Strongest Man, Mark
Henry brings you his world's strongest take.
Speaker 3 (01:00:49):
Take it away, big fellow, Art, what's up man?
Speaker 2 (01:00:52):
You know what time it is?
Speaker 3 (01:00:53):
What time is it?
Speaker 2 (01:00:54):
It's time for the world's strongest take by the world's
strongest man. Because back then they didn't know me. Now
I'm hot, they all own men, guys. I I know
y'all thinking with all the negativity that's floating around here
(01:01:15):
with the Shadir Sanders, Marc has got to touch on
that maybe his Lakers felling miserably, he's gonna go and
call for somebody's head, and the negativity and the fact
(01:01:38):
that maybe he's gonna talk about the the owner's son
that print called Shadeer Sanders. Nope, I'm looking for the
silver lining, guys. Today is the silver lining conversation. And
(01:02:01):
that goes not to the University of Texas football players
that were drafted, which is a silver lining. But I'm
gonna go with coach Jim Slowsnego. Coach Slasenego last year
guys played in the championship with Texas A and M
(01:02:28):
and guess what, just swept his team. He's won series
after the series after series against teams in the SEC,
which everybody is saying is the best baseball conference in
(01:02:52):
college sports. There was a point where even coach slotsnegge himself.
He came on this show and he he took the
high row. He said, you know what we're doing. Okay,
we got a long way to go. We haven't played
(01:03:14):
our conference yet, and he diminished to talk about how
good his team could be. Well, I think it's safe
to say that he was filibustering and he did not
want to let the cat out the bag. But let
me tell you what, guys, the cat is out the bag.
(01:03:37):
The University of Texas baseball team. They are them, guys,
and let's let's let's look at it like if it
was football. Okay, Coach Sarkisian comes to the University of
Texas the first year. The first year, they went five
(01:04:03):
and seven, not a great season, and I remember seeing
him pulling grass out of the ground, going, wow, we're bad.
We are bad. Not coach slasnegor. Imagine if coach syracusean
(01:04:28):
came here and took that team that was five and seven,
and he took him to the final four. In fact,
he took him to a championship against Alabama or Georgia
or Michigan or whoever was the champion that year. That's
(01:04:50):
what coach Slasnega is doing. He has this team in
single digits. Look who two losses in conference hard. I don't.
I can't sit here and say I'm the biggest baseball
(01:05:11):
Fiscinado in Austin. But I love winning and I love
Texas sports and coach Slasnego is doing both. He's coaching
Texas and he is winning.
Speaker 3 (01:05:25):
What say you, well, I mean as we've talked about before,
and you heard it in the hour number one. You heard,
you know, the post game and him talking about how
this team is so resilient.
Speaker 2 (01:05:40):
You're right. We looked of the thought.
Speaker 1 (01:05:44):
Process of being in the SEC and being able to
compete was one thing, but actually getting there and getting
it done is something else. Not only are they getting
it done, they're getting it done with different pieces every
single night. Guys that you don't expect to have big
(01:06:05):
nights come up in a clutch moment. You go back
to Friday night, and Jayden do Plentyer, who's hitting probably
a buck fifty, hits a ball off the centerfield wall
that nobody was expecting him to do to drive in
a run.
Speaker 3 (01:06:22):
Then he scores.
Speaker 1 (01:06:23):
I mean, you look at those and you look at
Tommy Farmer, who hadn't hit a home run in two seasons,
hits a home run. Texas wins the game two to one.
You look at Saturday, they win the game three to two.
Not having their best game. A guy gets on steal
second base, the throat from the catcher to third base
(01:06:45):
is missed.
Speaker 3 (01:06:47):
Should have been a should have caught the ball. Ye
Flores pops up his slide, bang bang at home play.
Texas wins three to two. Great defense and great pitching,
by the way.
Speaker 1 (01:06:57):
And then yesterday you in the game on a double play,
on a six to five ball game, and you had
guys that you didn't expect to make big things happen.
Speaker 2 (01:07:07):
And is that coach coaching these guys up or is
that his era of confidence that he's given these guys.
Speaker 1 (01:07:15):
I think it's more of the fact that these he's
breathing life into these guys, and they care about each
other so much because when players play, they make things happen.
And what we've been able to see this team be
able to do, they they create opportunities because they've already
seen it happen. They prepared themselves, come from behind. Victory
(01:07:37):
is their name. They you think you got the dub,
but they say no, no, no, no, no, no, we're
not finished yet.
Speaker 3 (01:07:44):
So yeah, it was. I mean, they're fun to watch,
let's just say that. And you're on the edge of
your seat.
Speaker 1 (01:07:50):
The entire time. So it's been very, very impressive. And again,
this Sloss effect is just that wherever he goes, he
creates winning attitude and that's what this Texas team has.
What more segment to close out the show, and we'll
send you to Dan Patrick. But coming up next, I
want to talk Quinn yours and what's next for him,
(01:08:12):
and I want to get your take on this Mark
right here on the morning kickoff on Sports Radio AM
thirteen hundred The Zone. What a great show that we've
had today. I want to thank everybody for tuning in
to it, because not only did we have so much
fun and have these conversations, we talked a lot about
the NBA, NFL, the Sloss Effect by my man, Mark
(01:08:34):
Henry look at him talking a little bit of baseball.
We talked about the winners and losers of the NFL
Draft and Bill Belichick. Dude, like, what's I don't get it.
I don't get it. But that's not for me to understand. Well,
you know, well, I'm sure we'll hear more about Bill Belichick.
Speaker 2 (01:08:51):
You like Michael Jackson, man, just leave alone.
Speaker 3 (01:08:54):
Yeah, just leave, just leave it alone. But I want
to get into this Quinn Yours conversation.
Speaker 1 (01:08:59):
I know a lot of folks were talking about shador
as did we But my my biggest thing for Quinn
yours and a lot of folks still disrespect him, But
let's let's be honest about.
Speaker 3 (01:09:19):
What Quinn Yours truly is. He is loyal.
Speaker 1 (01:09:27):
He had an opportunity to go to other schools because
everybody was clamoring for arch Manning. That's fair, Okay, cool,
let's get him in the game.
Speaker 3 (01:09:37):
You got him now.
Speaker 1 (01:09:39):
But what Quinn was able to do for this Texas program,
what's changing? You've brought it up a little b while ago.
Texas at one point was five and seven. We had
Casey Thompson and Hudson Card running that quarterback decides he
(01:10:00):
wants to come back to the University of Texas after
a short stint at.
Speaker 3 (01:10:07):
Ohio State, and he comes back in and changes it.
Speaker 1 (01:10:14):
Texas goes from eight to five, from five to seven
to eight and five, and then he takes your team.
Speaker 3 (01:10:23):
To the Final four and back to back seasons.
Speaker 1 (01:10:28):
He was the only quarterback to lead his team back
into the playoffs, the expanded version, the expanded version, and
yet the disrespect continues. I watched his interview with John
(01:10:49):
Gruden QB School and he passed with flying colors, showed personality,
showed the ability to read the offensives, leadership, everything you
could possibly want. And now lad in the draft he
gets picked. I think he landed at the perfect spot
(01:11:15):
with Mike McDaniel and the Miami But you was saying
that all along, I thought, but I thought he would
get drafted a little bit higher. But you're correct, I did.
I thought that would be multiple times, would be the
brow Miami is the place for him, yep. But the
thing about it for me is for him and that
(01:11:38):
type of ability, perfect score as a prospect coming out
of high school, perfect score as a five star prospect,
for him to fall that way and I know we've
talked about this before, We talked about his lack of mobility.
(01:12:00):
I don't think he has a lack of mobility. I
think because of the fact that he was injured all
the time, he didn't want to get hit. We've seen
him make long runs, We've seen him go up the sideline,
We've seen him run down the middle of the field
and scored a touchdown. But I think the problem was
he just did not want to get hit anymore.
Speaker 2 (01:12:21):
You didn't think that he wanted to risk his opportunity
at the next level.
Speaker 3 (01:12:25):
Career, well not even at the next level for the
next game. Think about it. My man was missing games
and he too, he knew what was behind him.
Speaker 2 (01:12:35):
Yeah, that's true.
Speaker 1 (01:12:37):
So in those types of moves, this dude had thirty
five starts, twenty seven consecutive games with a passing touchdown,
with different highlights and different road victories. Went on the
road to Michigan, went on the road to Alabama. And
you're telling me because I just went through those numbers.
(01:12:58):
There were seventy nine guys in this conference that was
drafted hard.
Speaker 2 (01:13:06):
I think the more impressives that is the fact that
he beat Arkansas, He beat Oklahoma, he beat an m
he'd be Michigan in the same calendar year, Yes, in
the same season.
Speaker 3 (01:13:19):
Yes, yes. And Clemson, Let's not forget Clemson in the playoffs.
Speaker 2 (01:13:24):
Put them in there, put them in there, put Arizona
in there.
Speaker 1 (01:13:29):
But you you, you you understand where I do that
in there, you understand where I am when it comes
to this. Look, the NFL is the NFL. The drafting,
the evaluation, all that stuff continues to be part of
the conversation, and it will always be. Dude turned down
eight million dollars to go to another school because two things,
(01:13:54):
He's loyal and his legacy. His legacy at the University
of Texas should never ever be understated. I've always been
a fan. My boy called me the Donkey lover because
he just doesn't like him that much. But I'm telling
you right now, Quinn yours is a bona fide winner
(01:14:16):
and now getting his opportunity. I know, financially it's not
a win for him.
Speaker 2 (01:14:22):
No, it's I don't even don't even worry about the money.
He's made money the last four years. I agree, that's
not an issue. The thing is he's ganged wrong. T
As Charles Barkley wrong t at least four or five
games to prove himself because Tua cannot stay healthy.
Speaker 1 (01:14:43):
And two have been partying all off season. Every video
I seen to have been out there having a good old.
Speaker 2 (01:14:49):
Enjoy your life. But I'm gonna tell you right now,
you know who's in the lab who Quenn Yours?
Speaker 1 (01:14:55):
Yeah, for sure you know. And you got to motivated
quin yours just like you have a motivate the Shador Sanders.
Speaker 2 (01:15:01):
I'll show you.
Speaker 3 (01:15:02):
I don't know how Shador is gonna do with that five.
Speaker 1 (01:15:06):
Rotation that they have of all those quarterbacks in Cleveland,
but looking at what Quinn's gonna have the opportunity to
do and be in Miami, I'm excited about it. But
the one thing I do want to ask you, every
time they cut to him, somebody posted that if you're
looking for a lion king character, he had.
Speaker 3 (01:15:26):
Them all up on his wall. They thought he was
at a bass pro shop all.
Speaker 2 (01:15:31):
The queen man. I was like, I turned in the gym, Carrey,
I can feel the death in here. Holy cow, it was.
It was a little bit much. It was a zoo.
We was we was looking at that TV.
Speaker 1 (01:15:50):
I was like, man, where's move fasad he gotta have
on the wall, and that's good.
Speaker 3 (01:15:58):
I'm glad you brought up Jim Carrey. That dude, he
was over there looking like he had all a pace ventur.
Speaker 1 (01:16:05):
A bet Detective Jim Carrey would have had a tough
time in there. But yeah, man, I'm just excited for
now that the draft is behind us. All these Texas
Longhorns that have now been drafted, they now have their opportunities.
Speaker 3 (01:16:22):
As they like to say, the hey is in the barn.
Speaker 1 (01:16:24):
Now go out there and go and get it, and
go enjoy yourself because it is regardless of where you
went and all those guys that signed the free agent deals.
All you want is an opportunity now, and the opportunity
has presented itself. Not go be great, because I think
you're gonna have those opportunities.
Speaker 2 (01:16:42):
To be great.
Speaker 1 (01:16:44):
I want to thank Mark Henry, the World's Strongest man
WWE Hall of Famer. I want to thank our guy
Marcus for holding it down. And I want to thank
you to people as always for making it do what
it do. And just remember this, folks will be even
better tomorrow. And always always don't believe everything you see
because even salt looks like sugar coming up next. You
(01:17:06):
got Dan Patrick right here, right on and thirteen hundred
the zone
