a good, good quote because today is going to be

(02:15):
a great day. I want to get into this conversation
because I want it to be known that I believe
The Lake Show is dead. And what do I mean
by that. Let's just talk about the last few seasons
in the NBA for the Lakers. The Lakers end up
making the trade during the middle of the season, and

(02:35):
a lot of folks are still mad.

Speaker 3 (02:36):
I gotta.

Speaker 1 (02:37):
I was just texted with somebody just a minute ago.
They still mad that Luca's not there. Well, we got
a chance to see why Luca's not there. Because if
you want to win a championship, you've got to be
able to play defense. We talked about it yesterday. You
could score fifty. If I score fifty is zero zero.
We need somebody else to help out. You gotta learn

(02:59):
how to stopped somebody first. I was talking to a
college coach yesterday and the one thing he said, everybody
can get buckets. Everybody when you're in college, you can
get a bucket. But can you stop somebody from getting
a bucket? That's the important thing. So since twenty nineteen,
this is what the Lakers were able to do. They

(03:20):
missed the playoffs in twenty nineteen, they won in the Bubble,
they became the champion twenty twenty one.

Speaker 3 (03:27):
They were eliminated in the first round.

Speaker 1 (03:29):
Twenty twenty two, they missed the playoffs twenty twenty three,
they were swept in the finals twenty twenty four are
in the Western Conference finals. Excuse me, twenty four and
twenty five they were eliminated in the first round. So
all the pomping circumstances that we thought we were going

(03:49):
to get and the changing of the guard with the
head coach JJ Reddick, Let's not forget Dalfred Hamm wanted
the whole people accountable, and people got upset. JJ Redick
come in because he did a podcast with with Lebron
and everybody thinks JJ's gonna change the way this team
is played.

Speaker 3 (04:06):
Well he did.

Speaker 1 (04:07):
Mark, You've talked about the fact they don't even use
the center, and you thought that was gonna be the
way to go. Did not work out that way. You
know why because in their defeat last night of one
O three ninety six to the Timberwolves, Rudy Gobert, that's right,
Rudy Gobert got busy in and called Gobert the dragon.

Speaker 3 (04:28):
He had twenty four rebounds for good. He was a
dragon tonight, that Rudy was the dragon.

Speaker 4 (04:37):
Yeah, he was a dragon to night for sure, Yeah,
for sure.

Speaker 3 (04:40):
No, he wasn't a dragon from ar He was a
dragon from David throg Yeah, No, he was incredible to
night to answer your question, So think about this.

Speaker 1 (04:48):
Rudy Gobert, who has been a punching bag for so
many people, had twenty seven points last night, twenty four rebounds.
He had fifteen defense of rebounds, which means what mark
you not.

Speaker 3 (05:03):
Getting a second chance to get in to get a bucket?

Speaker 2 (05:07):
And on top of that, heard he intimidated it probably
about fifteen shots he altered. He made people pull the
ball back and dribble back out because he was there.

Speaker 3 (05:20):
Yep.

Speaker 2 (05:21):
The Eiffel Tower last night was the most valuable piece
on the board in basketball.

Speaker 3 (05:27):
What is the thing that they hold that the highest regard.

Speaker 2 (05:32):
Height, length, and Rudy Gobert was the dragon of that category.
Of those categories, there's nothing that the Lakers had on
their hole, entire roster that can match up with Rudy Gobert.

Speaker 3 (05:49):
How about this.

Speaker 1 (05:50):
They lose the game, I mean, they lose the game
to Minnesota with Anthony Edwards going zero of eleven from
three pointers.

Speaker 3 (06:01):
Yeah, oh of eleven.

Speaker 1 (06:05):
And not only did Rudy Gobert get some love from
his teammates, I want you to hear what Shaq had
to say last night.

Speaker 2 (06:14):
And I never but I would say, these words are
about to come out my mouth.

Speaker 3 (06:20):
But Rudy Gobert is dominating.

Speaker 1 (06:24):
Shack is so wrong for that. He is hard and
Charles was instigating.

Speaker 2 (06:30):
Man, if you was playing Rudy Gobert with you were
jumped on your head and shocked the sugar's head.

Speaker 3 (06:38):
You're not gonna get me tonight.

Speaker 4 (06:39):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (06:40):
Yeah, You're not gonna get me the Diesel. I'm just
not gonna vote for it tonight. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (06:46):
It was an impressive, pressive look and so much so
that Anthony Edwards, who is hilarious on the microphone. He
was a guy that, as I said, went for eleven
last night, but you would think that he made every
single shot.

Speaker 3 (07:04):
As he talked about the Lakers, he talks.

Speaker 5 (07:18):
You know what makes it feel even better is that
they said Lakers in five and the Wolves won in five.
So I think that makes it feel to times better.
That's like Miami answer.

Speaker 1 (07:28):
And he talked about the fact that they beat the
best player in the world. He talked about beat lebron
and that to him made everything. Julius Randalls showed up
in this series, former Laker. He showed up in this
ambition to show.

Speaker 2 (07:44):
Us, yes, you know, you get traded out of Los Angeles,
you know, as for pieces and drafts, and you know,
to get a player that everybody said, Okay, that's a
good move.

Speaker 3 (07:58):
That players gone.

Speaker 2 (07:59):
Yeah, Anthony Davis is in Dallas, and you know, I
think that Julius Randa was like, I'm going to prove something.

Speaker 3 (08:08):
To you, and he proved that. He did prove it.

Speaker 2 (08:11):
He played Lebron as well as anybody. He played bully
ball like Lebron did. And Lebron was tired for the
first time in my fandom of the Los Angeles Lakers.
And I told you I wouldn't saw Lebron play in
high school when they had all the hooplah, like, hey man,

(08:34):
this high school kid is really really good. Let me
go see for myself. I have never seen Lebron tired
before these last three games. He's forty, I know it,
and JJ Reddick did not protect him. You have got
to protect your players from themselves. My coach told me

(08:56):
that multiple times, because I'm the type that if if
I fail, I'm not leaving the gym until I til
I do it hard. I'm not gonna leave the arena
until it's something I mess up. I gotta do it
again and again and again until I feel like I
got it.

Speaker 3 (09:16):
As an athlete, sometimes.

Speaker 2 (09:18):
You gotta say, hey, hey, hey, enough is enough, Go home,
come back tomorrow.

Speaker 3 (09:23):
We'll get it. JJ Reddick didn't do that. He's he
does for all the x's.

Speaker 2 (09:29):
And o's and the things that he did well this year,
having having the blooming voice from up above, he didn't
have it. And he did not play Dalton Connect since
the trade. Don't Connect played one one game since Luca

(09:51):
got there.

Speaker 3 (09:52):
One game. Don't Connect. A guy you start.

Speaker 2 (09:56):
Playing, uh, you start playing smaller guards in place of
a guy that's super hyper athletic like Dalton Connect, that
can shoot like Dundon Connect. I just think that there
was there's some things that he made mistakes on and
you know, not letting that trade go through for Mark

(10:18):
Williams was one of them.

Speaker 1 (10:20):
Well, I mean, that's an injury report that came back
that that told him he couldn't be there. But I
want you to hear about Lebron and what is next
for him.

Speaker 6 (10:32):
The fact that you're gonna enter into an off season
on a roster that that has look atats that secured
the number three season the West in a really tough
West this year.

Speaker 3 (10:43):
What type of thoughts does that give you about your
end game? And you know, how.

Speaker 4 (10:50):
Many more years will we see you play?

Speaker 3 (10:56):
I don't know.

Speaker 7 (10:56):
I don't have an answer to that. Something else with my
family and my wife and my support group and kind
of just talk through it and see what happens, and
and they just have a conversation with myself on how
long I want to continue to play. I don't know

(11:18):
the answer to that right now, to be honest. So
let me see.

Speaker 3 (11:25):
Well, let's just say this. You didn't sound very happy
about it. Well, Lakers in five. Now they get to
go fishing.

Speaker 1 (11:34):
And you got Yannis, you got a d you got
Chris Paul, you got Rich Paul, Lakers in five. And
as my man saying that run, I wasn't trying to run.
All I wanted to know was is that who I
think it is. We'll talk about the Rockets, we'll talk

(11:58):
about Golden State and what is next right here on
the morning kickoff on sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone.
All the Luka Dacics fans understand that your guy needs
to be better.

Speaker 3 (12:13):
I get it. He's talented, he's generational.

Speaker 1 (12:16):
But you have to be able to do it on
both ends of the floor, and he refuses to do it.
It's not that he can't, because you see him at
the beginning of the games and he starts it. You're
listening to the morning kickoff right here on Sports Radio
AM thirteen hundred The Zone, Mike Harballharn's World's Strongest Man,
WWE Hall of Famer, Dean Mark Henry, and of course
our guy Marcus holding it down. Coming up in the

(12:38):
next segment, we'll have Eric Henry of Horns twenty four
to seven. There's a report out about the salaries of
the players on the University of Texas. I know it
sounds kind of crazy when we start talking salaries in football,
but basically it's talking about how much money has been
allocated for Texas football. And we'll get into that conversation,

(13:01):
but right now, I want to go to htown with
the get down and this uh In the next hour
at this time, we'll be talking Houston Texans and how
important it is for them to get things right on
the offensive line. But right now I want to go
to htown and talk NBA. As the Rockets ended up
defeating the Golden State Warriors one thirty one to one sixteen.

(13:26):
And that was one of those games that it looked
out of hand. Early it looked like the Rockets were
just going to run away with the basketball game. But
when you have a guy like Steph Curry on the
other end, and you have guys coming off the bench
like Moses Moody, it changes the perspective of it. There

(13:46):
were some pushing, there were some shoving, there were some
physicalities in this basketball game. But the Rockets end up
winning one thirty one, one sixteen. And here is some
of that shoving.

Speaker 8 (13:59):
To the layout and Dylan Brooks and Spencer and now
send God has.

Speaker 3 (14:05):
Up to see Jackson. David said, here we go.

Speaker 8 (14:08):
Wait a minute, and tjd gave him a pretty good
shove there. So Braxi, he missed the layup. Dylan Brooks
was pushed out of bounds. He was fouled, and Dylan.

Speaker 1 (14:23):
Brooks got up like he was really ready to do something,
and I'm like, dude, you are a paper chopping I.

Speaker 2 (14:28):
Want I want to drive to Houston. He just choke
slam Man on the court. First off, he flopped. He
did so Spencer was like through his hands, like what
are you doing like, stop doing that and he starts
to walk.

Speaker 3 (14:43):
All his teammates scenes as him flop.

Speaker 2 (14:46):
Yeah, so Sam Goon comes up in defensive who was
a liar at the at the moment who flopped and
he instigated the whole thing. I thought there should have
been a technical foul on Brooks for flopping because he started,
he started. They always say, okay, who did what?

Speaker 3 (15:10):
Like they reviewed it.

Speaker 2 (15:12):
They went back and reviewed, but they didn't call a
penalty on Brooks for flopping, right, they should have. That
should have been a point. It should have been a
free throw at least. I thought the whole ordeal was ridiculous,
and it allay was brought on by the guy that
we don't like the most.

Speaker 3 (15:32):
He is right there, him and Draymond Green. They might
have been separated at birth. They like twin.

Speaker 1 (15:39):
He's the old I'm gonna get it.

Speaker 3 (15:43):
I'm gonna get a shirt made.

Speaker 2 (15:45):
That's got to put steph Raymond Green, and Brooks on
a shirt. Put their faces on the step brother's ugly
sweater shirt. The one concern that I have about this
Houston Rocket team because number one ima a Dokah, is.

Speaker 3 (16:01):
That guy, like I said.

Speaker 1 (16:02):
He walked up the court yesterday and basically was telling
all of them, I'll give it to you. He don't care.
And that's what I like about him. I think Doka
has proven himself to be one hell of a coach.
This team on the regular season was fifty two and thirty.
This is a team that in the grand scheme of things,

(16:24):
they were a year away and they're still here.

Speaker 2 (16:27):
You were telling me early in the season, like, well,
mid season, Mark, Houston looks good, and I'd say, ah, no,
they look good, man, Yeah, I doubted it. By the
end of the season, I was like, Wow, they do
look good. But I was such on that Laker fandom

(16:51):
that I allowed it to get in the way of
youth won defensive toughness in size. All Right, Houston has
defensive toughness. They have size, and they have a lot
of youth.

Speaker 3 (17:06):
And they have Amen Thompson, the young player to twin.

Speaker 1 (17:09):
He has not reached near his potential yet and he's
going to soon Sangoon because he is talented.

Speaker 3 (17:18):
Yeah, that's gonna be a good squad.

Speaker 1 (17:19):
Amen Thompson last night had twenty five points. But it
wasn't just the point. It was the fact of the
physicality in which he was playing with. He was not nervous,
he was not scared. And him and his brother, both
of them there. He's on Detroit, his brother's on Detroit
and he's on Houston. They're both in the playoffs, and
they're both major contributors to the success and the failures

(17:42):
of their squad. And for him to be able to
go out there play thirty five minutes. But the physicality
in which he got his twenty five points, he was
not nervous, he was not afraid. He was in there
being physical. And you've been talking about Sengoon all season long.

Speaker 3 (17:58):
He's just one of those man. He's just one of
those guys.

Speaker 1 (18:01):
He's he's a baby joker because he doesn't look athletic.
He doesn't look like he's going to destroy you, but
one thing is for sure, he's gonna give it to
you every single night.

Speaker 3 (18:16):
He's also one of those guys that come from.

Speaker 9 (18:18):
A philosophy of they don't they don't really train with
weights and and do the kind of sports protocol that
we do in America.

Speaker 3 (18:31):
I think that's gonna change this year.

Speaker 2 (18:33):
I think that you know, he finally realizes, you know what,
I need to be stronger and faster, not just big
and skilled. Once he gets his athleticism together, which he's athletic,
his balance is incredible. I see him like you could.
It's very hard to knock him off his stride. And

(18:55):
some of that is his size, but it also is
balanced contact balance and and we talked about that in football,
but that's necessary thing in basketball too.

Speaker 1 (19:04):
Yeah, it's it's one of those things that you start
to look at and you're saying, okay, that I can
build my team around him, right and one of the
things too for the for the Golden State Warriors. The
biggest issue now is I don't know if y'all seen
the picture of Steph's thumb, but Steph's thumb is swollen.

(19:25):
It is huge right now and people are really starting
to worry about it.

Speaker 3 (19:29):
But Steph, He's just gonna play through it.

Speaker 4 (19:32):
Stay of your thumb right now?

Speaker 3 (19:36):
Cold?

Speaker 2 (19:38):
Uh.

Speaker 8 (19:38):
There was a picture I don't know if you've seen
it online where it's pretty swollen.

Speaker 4 (19:42):
I think it was with you walk into the plane
about the internet is defense at this point, I love
this league so much. I love it so much. How
is your thumb besides cold?

Speaker 3 (20:00):
Because you're asking, uh, I don't even not answer.

Speaker 7 (20:03):
It is just something you're dealing with and you keep
it moving as long as I can play.

Speaker 3 (20:07):
And you got a rap for a reason.

Speaker 4 (20:08):
But that's Do you feel that it's impacting your game
at all? No?

Speaker 3 (20:14):
No, not at all. Well you know what have you
seen me play? Right? Right? Well, here's the deal.

Speaker 1 (20:24):
They are targeting his thumb in a dooka and Dylan
Brooks talked about it.

Speaker 10 (20:31):
Warriors broadcasters tonight on the broadcast accused Dylan Brooks of
intentionally swiping at Steph's at Curry's right thumb.

Speaker 3 (20:38):
How would you respond to that? I wouldn't.

Speaker 4 (20:43):
If that's the response, I wouldn't.

Speaker 10 (20:48):
Dylan, one of the Warriors broadcasters tonight, said he thought
you were intentionally trying to swipe down on Curry's thumb,
and Kerr was asked about it and said it happens
around the league, that it's allowed by the rules. So
player route the league do that. What do you think
about that? No, I've been playing the game.

Speaker 11 (21:06):
Shoot.

Speaker 12 (21:08):
Uh, if you're gonna come play the game injured or whatever,
you guys all about about the game, you know if
I had an injured ankle, I would attack that ankle
every single time.

Speaker 3 (21:22):
He's just being honest.

Speaker 2 (21:24):
These dude leaving alone being honest.

Speaker 3 (21:27):
That's the only thing that he's good about you that
where's your T shirt? I'm gonna get the T shirt made.
But that dude right there.

Speaker 1 (21:34):
Was being honest. Hey, if you have an injury, you're
coming to the game. I'm going at it. If I
had an injured ankle, I'll be going at that ankle.
This stuff is wild and I love every bit about it.
The Golden State Warriors are still up three games to two.
The Lakers are gone fishing. But right now we're about
to talk to my guy, Eric Henry of Horns twenty

(21:57):
four seven. What's up with this valery cap. We'll talk
about it right here on the morning kickoff on Sports
Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone. It's Thursday, so that
means my guy, Eric Henry of Wars twenty four to
seven joins us to break down all things Texas football, baseball, basketball.

(22:17):
He can do it all, but right off Marbles Hittley Wings. Yeah,
he came and hung out with us at the fan
fest for a little bit. Then he went over to
the ballpark for baseball. But Eric, I want to get
right into it. It has been reported that Texas will
spend between thirty five million and forty million on the
twenty twenty five roster. This is coming after different areas

(22:43):
revenue sharing, how settlement is reached, everything else will go
into it. But what are your thoughts and how accurate
is that?

Speaker 13 (22:52):
Yeah?

Speaker 14 (22:52):
First of all all this morning, appreciate y'all having me
on as always. Yeah, I believe that number to be accurate,
and it wouldn't shock anybody that that number is.

Speaker 15 (23:02):
Zachram's going to have some of the aspects.

Speaker 11 (23:04):
You talked about.

Speaker 15 (23:05):
Right, we can start with the fact that there.

Speaker 14 (23:06):
Is going to be a revenue revenue sharing settlement. That's
the projections around twenty million dollars, between twenty and twenty
one million dollars that is going to going to be
Texas to share, right, They are going to take the
rep share a.

Speaker 15 (23:20):
Lot, man.

Speaker 14 (23:21):
So there's roughly twenty to twenty one million dollars or
the forty right there, there's half fellas my cards.

Speaker 15 (23:28):
Mark.

Speaker 14 (23:28):
I pretty much reported last year, or actually pretty much
I did report last year that Texas in terms of
their football operating budget was between thirteen and sixteen million dollars.

Speaker 15 (23:38):
Okay, So if we.

Speaker 14 (23:40):
Take that figure and then you just say, all right,
it's going to be maybe a little bit of a boost,
a little bit of an increase, and now you're at twenty.
It's not that much of a shift from last year.
It's just the sticker shock of the totality of the
repshare allotment in conjunction with Texas One Fund and some
of the other areas that Texas can fund their football programs. So, yeah,

(24:01):
I don't find that number to be Again, it's the
sticker shock that some people are looking at, but you're
not taking to account the settlement that's coming down and
be there are plenty of programs across the nation that
are spending double digit in terms of you know, tens
of million, millions of dollars to fund their program. It's
just something that people are looking at it and saying,
all right, because Texas is doing it, you have all
these questions. So I saw that report and I credit

(24:25):
Kirk Bowles who reported that in the Houston Chronicles, and yeah, Bee,
that number to be accurate doesn't surprise me.

Speaker 15 (24:30):
And the last thing I'll say is this, I've seen
some of the criticism.

Speaker 14 (24:33):
You know, I saw I'll call out our company twenty
four seven Sports with some of who was for our
Ohio state side and said, oh, it doesn't.

Speaker 15 (24:40):
Take forty million dollars to fund the competitive team.

Speaker 14 (24:42):
Well, whether it does or doesn't, that's not the point,
right hard, I'm gonna say it your background. I'm a
tam Bay Raids fan, raised ten continuously funds, are able
to field a competitive team despite being one of the
lowest funded teams in the MLD. But if they had
the money to do it, would I want to do
it yet?

Speaker 15 (24:58):
All right? So it's not a.

Speaker 14 (24:59):
Matter whether you need that money, it's that everyone in
every school nation that they had the opportunity to do so,
would be doing no doubt.

Speaker 2 (25:08):
Yeah, I'm gonna tell you right now, I don't think
that thirty five to forty million dollars is an exorbitant
number when you already account the fact that people are
spending between fifteen and seventeen already, and now you add
another twenty million dollars to it, like it is what

(25:30):
it is, the only reason that there's a stink is
because it's Texas that everybody wants to hate us for
whatever reason.

Speaker 3 (25:40):
And you know what, I'm with it because I use
it as few.

Speaker 2 (25:43):
I hope that the University of Texas athletes realize that
people are gonna hate them just because they're great.

Speaker 14 (25:53):
Mark, it's the thing that you know, listen again, right,
I'm sure someone will here that can call me a
Texas home or whatnot.

Speaker 3 (25:59):
That's fine.

Speaker 11 (26:00):
Of what it is.

Speaker 14 (26:01):
There's in a program in the nation that if they
had the opportunity to spend the types of money that
Texas can spend, that they wouldn't. And I'll see an
example right again, to your point that you're saying people
want to hate Texas, Let's take this out of the football.

Speaker 15 (26:14):
Realm and go to basketball.

Speaker 14 (26:15):
Right Kentucky, I can tell you right now, Kentucky basketball,
they're spending north of ten million dollars.

Speaker 15 (26:21):
On their basketball roster this year.

Speaker 3 (26:23):
Right.

Speaker 14 (26:24):
And then if Kentucky wins the national title, I'm sure
there's some people who say, oh, well, Kentucky had to
do this to compete for their first national title.

Speaker 15 (26:30):
In you know, fifteen sixteen years, and.

Speaker 14 (26:32):
But that's the game. That's where we are, right. So again,
I don't understand that people say it doesn't take that.
Whether it Tucker doesn't is irrelevant. It's the fact that
you have the wherewithal to do it, and there isn't
a team in the nation, a program nation.

Speaker 15 (26:47):
That wouldn't do this. And lastly, you have to develop
that talent.

Speaker 1 (26:50):
Right.

Speaker 14 (26:50):
We've seen Texas and plenty of schools. We saw Miami
right for example, A's wire five star class. If the
five star class for ten years didn't win a darn thing, right,
So yes, the acquiring of the talent helps if you
got development as well.

Speaker 1 (27:03):
Wow, we're talking to Eric Henry of Horace twenty four
to seven.

Speaker 3 (27:06):
You can follow them at Eric C.

Speaker 1 (27:08):
Henry Underscore and E Let's continue the conversation because as
these moments continue to grow and you talk about all
of the different areas of success that Texas has been
able to do it and accumulate a lot of talent.
Now is the time for Texas to really take another step.
Everybody's been talking about them being in the Final four

(27:31):
the last couple seasons, but there's still more to be
desired when it comes to this Texas football team.

Speaker 3 (27:38):
For Texas to win it all.

Speaker 1 (27:40):
And I know it's kind of a you know, it's
way out there conversation, but what do you expect to
see for Texas moving forward as they start to do
these things that you were talking about as far as development.

Speaker 14 (27:53):
Yeah, yeah, you know listening, you know, you kind of
asking you what the textis do moving forward to take that.

Speaker 15 (27:58):
Next step and win a national time.

Speaker 14 (28:00):
I think the part of it is, in fact, yes,
winning the free agent process, right, you know, winning in
the transfer port.

Speaker 15 (28:07):
Here's the example.

Speaker 14 (28:08):
I'll give you charge of this right and this is
the point where if you want to accuse Texas of
having a little bit of you know, extralupt you could
look at this right quin yours. You get a quarterback,
typically the highest paid position on your team, who doesn't
have to take a dollar from your nil fund because
he is, you know, using his name imagine likeness arch

(28:28):
manning the same thing, doesn't have to take a dollar from.

Speaker 15 (28:31):
The rev shift from the collectives.

Speaker 14 (28:33):
What that allows Texans to do is go out and
fill spots that were sorely needed. I look at defensive
tackle right there was to go out and get five
of the hoose. That certainly makes the difference. They're able
to fill in at tight end, at receiver. So I
think the next step in the immediate term, by the way,
really quick, just to cap the whole you know, money discussion.
It's going to be a moot point next year, right,

(28:54):
because it's the one time sharing a lotment. And then
then you know when you go to straight red cheer, well,
a lot of schools are going to fake up the collective.

Speaker 15 (29:02):
So it's just a one time thing.

Speaker 14 (29:03):
But nevertheless, in order to text us to do this
and keep it to make it sustainable moving forward, there
are things in place. Right, you have a quarterback and
d bel it's another legacy quarterback to sont a former
NBA star Rajah Bell. Right, he's not going to have
to take money from outside. You know, he can use
his own name, image and likeness. That's going allow Texas
that the money they do have to go still spots

(29:26):
across the roster and not have to you know, put
four or five sixty million dollars to a quarterback cards. So,
I know I answered it kind of in a ten
thousand foot view, but I do think it's important to
look at ITV. We been able to fill those spots
that way.

Speaker 1 (29:41):
Yeah, there's a lot of times that you you know,
when you put it in perspective, whether it's ten thousand
feet or right in front of you, sometimes you've got
to be able to view it with a different lens,
and I think you presented it in a perfect way
because of the simple fact too that we've talked about.
I mean, it's going to continue to grow. It's not
going anywhere. It's gonna be the haves and the have nods,

(30:02):
and if you do not have, you will not be
a part of the party.

Speaker 3 (30:06):
Man, It's just what it is. So as always, Bro,
we appreciate you taking the time. Don't forget.

Speaker 1 (30:12):
At eight o'clock we'll have Jim Slosnagel and I know
you've been covering that and I know you've been listening
to it as well.

Speaker 3 (30:19):
We'll talk to you soon.

Speaker 15 (30:20):
Brother pim Fall who appreciate y'all. Always there.

Speaker 3 (30:23):
He is Eric Henry of Horns twenty four to seven.

Speaker 1 (30:26):
Follow him at Eric C Henry Underscore on social media.
All Right, one last time, I'm gonna talk about Bill
Belichick and then I'm done.

Speaker 3 (30:36):
No you're not. I'm done, No you're not. But don't
go anywhere.

Speaker 1 (30:39):
We'll talk about Bill Belichick right here on the morning
kickoff on sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone. I
want to give a shout out to Eric Henry of
Horns twenty four to seven, coming in and dropping that
knowledge about the dollar dollar Bill, y'all, And it is
always always fun to talk to E. But I want
to get into this conversation for one las time. This

(31:01):
Bill Belichick situation has fascinated me.

Speaker 3 (31:07):
Show it out, Bill. I'm done with Bill after this.

Speaker 1 (31:12):
But Bill Belichick and his situation with his new significant other,
his boo thing, young tender roney, out of him, streets,
out of him, streets has taken another turn at North Carolina.

Speaker 3 (31:31):
Let me let me get set up.

Speaker 1 (31:34):
Okay, So here is the latest on the Bill Belichick situation. Obviously,
we've talked about his CBS Good Morning spot where his
girlfriend Jordan Hudson was a little upset and a little
ticked off about the core line of questioning when it
was not going to answer that when they were trying

(31:56):
to promote Bill's book, And I'm understand that after upon
further review, I understand that she didn't really want to
get into.

Speaker 3 (32:10):
The relationship. Yes, so I get it.

Speaker 1 (32:15):
Well, then it comes out that they were trying to
be a part of Hard Knocks. They were going to
do Hard Knocks on the University of North Carolina, and
they decided, well, we're not going to do that now,
because she decided that she wanted to creative control of

(32:41):
hard knocks.

Speaker 3 (32:42):
Wait a minute, hold on time out.

Speaker 16 (32:44):
Can we get she she wanted creative control over the
entire project, or just over Bill's interaction with the project.

Speaker 3 (32:55):
The entire project.

Speaker 1 (32:57):
So she wanted to final say, I guess you would say,
and and a lot of a lot of people have
final say in those cuts.

Speaker 2 (33:03):
Can I ask you a question, what the hell does
she know about the University of North Carolina's inner workings?

Speaker 3 (33:10):
I have no idea, I have no idea.

Speaker 2 (33:13):
What qualifies her two actually give information about the university
that one she doesn't work for, two that she didn't
go to and three she's.

Speaker 3 (33:31):
Not the coach. She's not the coach.

Speaker 1 (33:35):
And here's my here, here's where things get a little
bit interesting for me.

Speaker 3 (33:42):
On the Bill Belichick side of this.

Speaker 1 (33:44):
Okay, Now, remember everybody was talking about her being his
pr her being his trying to educate him on the
inner workings of social media as far as dealing with
the younger generation. So the University of North Carolina came

(34:07):
out with a detailed apology and understanding statement I guess
you would say not apology a statement about Bill Belichick's
reasoning for the interview to not go as well, Right,
they were supposed to go down the line of questioning.
They didn't do the things that they said. CBS said, no,

(34:27):
we did exactly what we were supposed to do. What
we were not briefed and said, don't talk about this,
don't talk about that. It's the general conversation about things
that are going on, and it would help him promote
his book because people are obviously talking about But the
biggest part of it all is if Bill is supposed

(34:48):
to be this social media type of person that they
are trying to portray him to be and educate him
to be, why is the University of North Carolina doing that?
Why wouldn't Bill be able to read his own statement.
Why wouldn't Bill be able to craft out his own
no pun intended, craft all his own statement towards the

(35:11):
people and explain himself to the media on social media,
Because if you're trying to build your social media following
in those types of things, seems.

Speaker 2 (35:22):
Like you would work with the university help that facilitate
that absolutely, and you being on camera to do that
is the Bill Belichick new way like he's out, he's
out and about.

Speaker 1 (35:36):
And to put a topper on all of this, rumor
has it that her mother here we go owns a
let's just say closer adult dispensary.

Speaker 3 (35:55):
It's okay, whatever it take.

Speaker 1 (35:58):
Exactly, but enough of the conversation has been now people
are going down rabbit holes to find out more about her.
So when you get yourself out there and you start
being this quote unquote pretentious type of individual that seems
to be combative.

Speaker 2 (36:19):
But what the mother does? A father doesn't have a
baron on her. I want to know her qualifications, you know,
like it does have a baron on her. Just by
the way, because now they're good and they're going they're
gonna dig. Yeah, they're digging. Now you know that dig.

Speaker 3 (36:37):
You know as well as I do.

Speaker 2 (36:40):
What her educational standard is and what makes her qualified
to be an analyst? What makes her qualified to run
the social media? Who does she work with before? How
did she become such a maven like for social media?
Like show me some other examples before you put yourself

(37:08):
out there?

Speaker 3 (37:08):
Is I should have final say so with HBO.

Speaker 1 (37:15):
So here's the out of here here's the most important
part for me, Mark. This conversation has all of us
getting ready to watch North Carolina football this season, not
only because of Bill Belichick. You're watching it because we're
gonna try to figure out if it's going to be
a train wreck this season. I'm all in, Baby, I'm

(37:39):
all in. But I will not talk about Bill Belichick
no more. Okay until football season starts, unless he does
something crazy on the internet.

Speaker 3 (37:47):
Coming up next, we have.

Speaker 1 (37:49):
Texas baseball coach Jim Slasnagel talking about their big matchup
as the number one team travels to Fanville, Arkansas to
take on those Raizer backs.

Speaker 3 (38:00):
Peak Siny right here with you on.

Speaker 1 (38:03):
The morning Kickoff on sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone.
Welcome back to our number two of the morning kickoff
right here on sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone.
The Lake Show is now the Fake Show. As the
Timberwolves move on after defeating the Lakers in five, the
Rockets and Golden State get into a punching match. Eric

(38:24):
Henry of Horns twenty four to seven talked a lot
about the salary cap and Bill Belichick is still on
my nerves, but joining us from.

Speaker 3 (38:31):
Fayetteville is our guy.

Speaker 1 (38:33):
Head coach of the number one ranked Texas Longhorns as
they make the trip to Arkansas to take on the
number eleven Razorbacks that will take place starting tonight is
coach Jim Slosnagel and coach I know we're in the present,
but we do have to go back in the past
just for a little bit, as you had an emotional

(38:53):
weekend as your Texas Longhorns, sweet your former team the
Texas A and M fighting, and the biggest story that
we got coming out of there is you guys continue
to pitch.

Speaker 13 (39:05):
Well, yeah, I appreciate you having me on.

Speaker 17 (39:09):
Yeah, it was a great weekend for college baseball, great
win we can for for Texas for sure. Obviously, all
three games were super close, decided about one run, and
I think all three games the Aggies had both the
tie and.

Speaker 13 (39:25):
Go ahead run on base and we were.

Speaker 17 (39:27):
Able to either make make make pitches or turn the
big double play there in the weekend. So, uh, yeah,
we pitched well, we didn't swing that great. Uh, but
you also got a credit, you know, I mean A
and M preseason number one in the country for a reason,
and uh, they've gotten healthier with getting Caten Currell back
and and so they're uh, you know, really good team.

(39:49):
So that's good, good for us, and and uh just
that overall had some longtime Longhorns, including Craig Way and
people that have been around Dishfalk for a long time.
Says one of the most.

Speaker 11 (39:59):
Electri weekends that they'd ever seen.

Speaker 17 (40:01):
So that's great for the program and hopefully I'll continue
to draw people out to watch us play.

Speaker 2 (40:06):
Coach, I have very few negative things to say about anybody.
I'm an optimist, but I want you all to go
up there, kick them in the face and get out
of there. Don't stay and see the sights. There are
no sights to be seen. And the people there are

(40:26):
not very nice.

Speaker 3 (40:28):
I'm just going on record, Go get your wins.

Speaker 2 (40:32):
Don't have to enjoy enjoyed and auso yeah, well yeah, well.

Speaker 3 (40:37):
Believe me with this.

Speaker 13 (40:38):
You know, this Thursday to Saturday series.

Speaker 17 (40:41):
I mean, it's it's nice when it's over and you
get a rest on a Sunday, but they're this is
a big this is a big week for us, man,
this is this is the you know, this will be
the toughest environment that we play in all year. None
of our guys have played in this series before and
they've certainly we're played in this ballpark and seeing what,

(41:02):
like you said, what these fans are all about. So
and we're playing a great team, I mean, just elite talent.
They've they're a little banged up like the rest of us.
But the arms we're gonna see route tonight. Who you
know we tried to get at Texas was one of
the top transfers out of East Carolina. Is just a superstar.

(41:23):
And then a guy that's coming off injury who pitched
well last week, name would Runs. He's just as basketball
just sits about ninety eight miles an hour, so big,
they have big power. Their shortstop might win the Golden
Spikes Award this year. And then you got to deal with,
you know, just the atmosphere. But those are all like
those are all we get.

Speaker 13 (41:42):
To do that.

Speaker 17 (41:42):
We don't have to do it. We get to do it.
It's gonna be an awesome experience, win or lose. It's
gonna make our team better. And uh, you know, the
longrns will show up and believe me, as soon as
that game's over, Saturday will be head backed off.

Speaker 2 (41:56):
Coach uh with an environment like they present it. Uh,
even your your experienced players, how do you get them
to focus on the necessary thing that you coach plan
doing the things that you want them to do, and
not the environment.

Speaker 13 (42:17):
Well, you appreciate the environment for what it is.

Speaker 17 (42:19):
And but we this is why we invest so heavily
in the mental game from uh, from from the very.

Speaker 13 (42:26):
First day of fall practice.

Speaker 15 (42:27):
Is that, UH.

Speaker 17 (42:29):
You know you can't you can't control what's what the
events are and that happened in the game, but you
can control your response to them. And E plus are
equals ZH. The event plus the response is going to
equal the outcome. So we know we're going to take
body blows. Uh.

Speaker 11 (42:43):
And you just got to keep playing and you take
a deep breath.

Speaker 17 (42:47):
You trust your routine, You focus on winning pitches, you
play to a standard, down a scoreboard, all the things
that we believe in. And that doesn't make it easy,
but it does. It gives you an anchor, It gives
you something to go to, UH when you're in those moments.
And pressure isn't like pressure is a privilege, man, I
mean these are all this is a there's a lot

(43:07):
of people that freaking would give up a pinky to
to be in this in this space. You're playing at
the University of Texas against a great program in front
of an awesome fan base that's super loud and going.

Speaker 3 (43:20):
To be packed.

Speaker 17 (43:22):
That's why, that's why you come to Texas and play
in the SECS for weekends like this.

Speaker 3 (43:27):
And we were talking about it.

Speaker 1 (43:28):
We're talking to head coach of the number one ranked
Texas Longhorns, Jim Slowsneggele, as they get ready to take
on the Arkansas Razorbacks first pitch tonight.

Speaker 3 (43:37):
We'll be at six o'clock.

Speaker 1 (43:38):
Tomorrow night, we'll be at seven o'clock, and Saturday will
be at two pm, and then they can get on
that plane and come back. But Coach, you know, I
sit here and obviously over the years and over this season,
you get a chance to watch your team, and the
one thing that I've been very impressed with is that

(43:59):
y'all been able to do it in so many different ways,
and folks still can't understand how, but I believe in
what you were talking about, the mental aspect of it all,
the ability to focus and the ability to lock in,
and it goes with that leadership that you have in
that dugout.

Speaker 17 (44:17):
Yeah, it's certainly you know, it's a team that that belief.
Belief is a very powerful thing. And when you go
through what we've gone through with the injuries and uh, setbacks.
And when I say, you say setbacks, you've only lost.
We've lost a couple a couple of games. But we
still play everything closed and we we we play.

Speaker 11 (44:38):
From behind a lot.

Speaker 17 (44:40):
But these guys just believe in each other and uh,
you know that can take you a long way. And
we do play clean baseball. I mean, it's never the
saying is you know, knock on wood. I mean the
saying is the it's never about the best team. It's
only about the team that plays the best. And we
have good players. I mean, I'm not going to discount
our players. We have good players too. But when you
throw strike and you handle a baseball, then you.

Speaker 13 (45:04):
Know that's two thirds of the battle.

Speaker 17 (45:06):
You have pitching, defense and timely hitting. So if we
throw strikes, if we make the routine plays, don't throw
the ball around the field, and then you're just you know,
that gives you a really really good chance, and then
you're down to the timely hitting, which that's going to
come and go. So would we love for the season
to continue to go the way it's going. Sure, but

(45:26):
more than likely, and I'm not trying to be Debbie
down or more than likely there's going to be a
weekend or a said amount of time there usually is
for every team where it doesn't go your way, and
then that's when we'll find out, Hey, can we just
keep doing what we're doing, keep our nose down, don't
listen to anything on the outside, and it's all about

(45:46):
being ready and healthy at the most important time of
the year, which is which is going to be the
end of May and in the first of June, to
give us the best chance to.

Speaker 13 (45:55):
Advance our season, no doubt about it.

Speaker 1 (45:58):
Coach, I wanted to ask you this. Obviously, the pitching
rotation seems to be the same. Ruger Riojas will go today,
Luke Harrison tomorrow, and from what I understand is TVA
on Saturday.

Speaker 17 (46:12):
Yeah, yeah, Jason Flores is fine and more than likely
he'll be the guy that starts that game. But when
you go on the road in these environments, and given
where we are in our season, it's so tough to win,
it's so tough, it's so hard to win the games,
and so easy to lose them. If we have a

(46:33):
chance to grab one or grab even a series, we'll
do that and we'll just see how it plays out.

Speaker 1 (46:42):
So let me ask you this because it is gonna
be a big weekend, exciting weekend.

Speaker 3 (46:46):
Can't wait to check it all out.

Speaker 1 (46:48):
But there are some things that you put out yesterday
talking about the injury report and the latest on a
few guys, namely Max Blue.

Speaker 3 (46:57):
What's the latest on Max Blue?

Speaker 17 (47:00):
Yeah, Max's he's making progress every day. He's got pretty
decent amount of mobility in his thumb, but he's still
you know, he's he's there's it's still real tender. I mean,
it's getting better every day, and we're not even you know,
it was it's basically a for some people, it's a
six week injury. Well, if it's six weeks, he may
not play again this year, but if it's closer to

(47:23):
you know, five or four, then we could see him,
you know, maybe at the end of the regular season
or the SEC tournament. But you know, he's got a career.
Man like this guy's got a chance to be a
big leaguer and this is a real serious injury. So
we're not gonna do anything to put him at risk.
I know he's chomping at the bit. He's trying every
day to you know, he stands in on bullpens, he

(47:44):
stands in against the pitching machines.

Speaker 11 (47:46):
He can't he can't do anything but.

Speaker 15 (47:48):
Hold the bat.

Speaker 17 (47:49):
But he's trying to do everything he can to be
to be ready when he comes back, like he did
at the beginning of the season, Yes, when he had
freaking mono. I mean, so it's just always, uh, it's
just always something. So he's he's an awesome guy and
when he's ready, he'll.

Speaker 3 (48:05):
Be in there. We're gonna let you go with this.

Speaker 1 (48:08):
Forty four years ago, I mean, excuse me, thirty four
years ago, a forty four year old Nolan Ryan throws
his seventh career no hitter. You are a historian of
the game. You've been around the game your whole life.
How cool is that that a forty four year old
could still go out there and throw it at a
high level because he took care of himself.

Speaker 17 (48:30):
Yeah, yeah, it's awesome. I mean, what a what a
great player. And you should probably look up how many
one hitter and two minutes the guy had. I mean,
he was close. He was close to so many and
I was real fortunate enough to really get to know
Nolan really well.

Speaker 11 (48:45):
All three of his children went to TCU.

Speaker 17 (48:47):
He actually coached at TCU a couple of years before
I got there, but and then he was a part
of the Rangers during my time in Fort Worth. So
one of the best honors of my life getting to
know him and his wife Ruth and their family, No
doubt about it.

Speaker 3 (49:04):
Coach, best of luck, and as Mark says.

Speaker 1 (49:07):
Go ahead of your business, but get out of there
as soon as you possibly can.

Speaker 3 (49:10):
I lived in Little Rock for a while. Man, I
totally get it.

Speaker 10 (49:13):
Brother.

Speaker 11 (49:14):
Okay, man, you guys have a great weekend.

Speaker 3 (49:16):
Hookome, you too. Hookome.

Speaker 1 (49:17):
There is the head coach of the Texas Longhorns GYM slosnago. Big,
big matchup against the Arkansas Razorbacks. When we come back,
we're gonna talk Houston Texans. They needed to make some
adjustments and how good can CJ.

Speaker 3 (49:31):
Stroud be this year? Coming up next right.

Speaker 1 (49:34):
Here on the Morning Kickoff on sports Radio AM thirteen
hundred The Zone.

Speaker 2 (49:40):
Welcome back the Morning Kickoff AM thirteen hundred Zone. The
World's Strongest Man and my favorite baseball play of all time,
Mike hard Ball Hart.

Speaker 3 (49:56):
And my boy Marcus.

Speaker 2 (49:58):
Guys, I'm happy that we get to talk sports. This
has been a blessing to me. It's been a blessing
to my family. And I found out yesterday that it's
been a blessing to some other people.

Speaker 3 (50:14):
We have one of the parents that's on the.

Speaker 2 (50:19):
My My Daughter's wrestling team that listened to the show
every morning and he said, man, I listened to y'all
and it's not just sports.

Speaker 3 (50:30):
It's not just numbers.

Speaker 1 (50:32):
Great interviews and y'all talk about life and your kids
and stuff. Well here we are, man, we're talking about
the kids again. Yesterday I walked.

Speaker 2 (50:42):
By and Okay, herts don't like it when I get
real close to him. I'm a hugger. Okay, I'm just
gonna let it be know. I'm a hugger. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (50:52):
And I walked up and I grabbed.

Speaker 2 (50:53):
Put my mom around hard Shows and he said, come on, man,
let me go. And I look down and he had
a picture of Jazzy on his phone.

Speaker 3 (51:04):
Oh and melt in my heart. That's my favorite. Oh lord,
she's my favorite.

Speaker 18 (51:10):
Oh my gosh, please please, I know I'm not supposed
to share all the good, but tell how feist is.

Speaker 1 (51:22):
Jazzy is man. She like the BEV. She's built different,
that's for sure. She comes by it honest. She don't
play around. If you don't if you're not part of it,
you don't like a lot of people either. No, she
don't and she keeps it one hundred all the time.
So I appreciate you giving my daughter a shout out.
She will be excited about that. But I want to

(51:44):
get into this conversation about the Houston Texans.

Speaker 3 (51:48):
The Houston Texans are.

Speaker 1 (51:50):
A team that had a lot of high hopes last year.
Demiico Ryans, one heck of a football coach, was able
to make a lot of changes within their organization, but
they just didn't get to where they needed to be.
And now we're starting to see some changes for them.
And what I mean by that, well, as you know,

(52:12):
they got rid of their whole entire offensive line, everybody
because as you said during the break, he was running
for his life.

Speaker 3 (52:22):
CJ.

Speaker 1 (52:22):
Stroud was running for his life, and Nick Cassario, the
GM of the Houston Texans, was on the show with
Kay Adams.

Speaker 3 (52:34):
Again.

Speaker 1 (52:34):
Kay has been doing a really good job of getting
these top notch people on her show to be able
to talk all things sports, as you possibly know. But
one of the things that he was talking about was
what to expect from year three, what from CJ Stroud?
But for me, it starts with that offensive line. We'll

(52:54):
get into that in a second. But here's what Nick
Cassario had to say about CJ.

Speaker 3 (53:00):
Stroud.

Speaker 19 (53:01):
But I think you did your thing for Stroud, which
is the gig, right like Higgins and nol and the
ursery to bring in and help with the O line.
We obviously we were not I'm sure you weren't super
happy with the way that year ended. We have this
amazing talent. We want to get back there. What did
you learn speaking about being a Texan and the toughness?

Speaker 14 (53:21):
What did you learn.

Speaker 19 (53:21):
About c J.

Speaker 11 (53:22):
Stroud?

Speaker 19 (53:23):
Like you had your scattering report on him, you grabbed him,
you loved him. What one thing from this past year
would you add into that folder?

Speaker 3 (53:29):
And that vile about him?

Speaker 6 (53:31):
He's very convicted, he's very prideful, he cares a lot
about winning, and he wants to go out there and
perform well on a weekly basis. And I think any player,
every player, we all get frustrated when things don't go
your way, but your ability to bounce back and have
a certain level kind of what I talked about a
little bit earlier, mental toughness to be able to handle
what's in front of you. It wasn't perfect, like we

(53:54):
had our ups and downs, but I mean, other than
two games last year, we essentially had an opportunity in
the fourth quarter of every game. So this year, who
knows what's gonna happen, is probably gonna be a little
bit different. But like we understand how competitive this league is.
I mean, I think there was a stat from the
league meetings. I mean, seventy percent of the games last
year were one score games in the fourth quarter, which
is ridiculous. It just goes to show you how competitive

(54:16):
this league is. So if you can at least put
your team in that position to have an opportunity to
win in the fourth quarter, that's all you can ask for.
But Czea cares a lot about winning. He's had a
great offseason. He's been here really since February. I mean,
he's kind of been in and out here a little bit,
but you know, everybody needs some time away. But he
wants to improve and there's going to be a certain
learning curve associated with learning a new offense with you know,

(54:38):
having coach Kaylee here and some of the things that
I can into that. But I think he's got the
right mindset. He understands that, you know, we can all
improve and we can all get better, and this is
what the offseason is for. So hopefully he's excited about
what's in front of us.

Speaker 2 (54:51):
Man, I'm I'm sitting here listening to that, and that's
an interesting stead about how close the league is. Imagine
if you didn't get sacked the second most of times
in the entire league. Imagine if you had sustained drives
and you didn't have the injuries that you had at

(55:13):
the end of the season, Houston would have.

Speaker 3 (55:15):
Done a lot lot better.

Speaker 2 (55:18):
And I really do feel like revamping this offensive line, Okay,
restructuring this offensive line with people that are not giving
ola and lookout blocks every series will benefit Houston.

Speaker 1 (55:35):
Yeah, It's it's been an interesting offseason to say the least.
And one of the other questions that I was asked
was about this offensive line and the reconstruction of it.

Speaker 19 (55:48):
You drafted an offensive lineman, you know, you're talking about conviction.
Your fans are convicted about the O line the why
do you know they would have taken a million offensive
linemen if they could. But I was looking at just
the depth chart. There's there's so many companies. Next thing
you guys could go if it's sort of crazy, There's
so many guys in that position room that could.

Speaker 11 (56:05):
All be starters.

Speaker 19 (56:06):
Is there a master plan? How did the offensive lineman
you chose fit into that? Or is it just going
to be like a fight to the death in training
camp for these spots.

Speaker 6 (56:16):
You're one of the few that's made a very astute
observation k about the composition of that group right now.
So let's say we have a lot of players that
have a lot of experience not only in the NFL,
but in our system as well. So have some players
that are tackling only. Have some players that have experienced
playing tackling guard, have some players that are guard only,
have some players that can play all three inside positions.
So we feel like there's going to be really good

(56:38):
competition amongst that group. But I think we have a
lot of confidence in the players that are here. Let's
say at a nursery to that group, we feel as
a player that's going to enhance that competition as well
as played a lot of football. Brings a certain physicality
and a mindset and a toughness to that. So we'll
get the five best guys out there on the field,
and you know, we're going to have eight at the
game every week. But you know, we feel that overall

(57:00):
that's a pretty competitive group and we feel like at
some point it's all going to manifest itself and there's
an opportunity for us out there that we feel makes
sense that.

Speaker 11 (57:08):
We can have a player.

Speaker 3 (57:09):
We're never going to turn that down.

Speaker 1 (57:11):
So Mark, you know, as this team tries to figure
out what's next for them, they had to get that
offensive line correct. They have to make the adjustments getting
rid of Laramie Tunsel, getting rid of Kenyon Green, guys
that were special to this organization. And now they're starting

(57:34):
to rebuild this offensive line. How quickly can they adjust
and get this thing figured out?

Speaker 2 (57:42):
I think it's going to be pretty immediate, like because
they're already a very good team. And as you know, Harj,
the hardest thing to do is to get a quarterback yep,
and they have a good one and a smart one
and Nick Kyley the offensive coordinator brings in a new
system that is tailor made for a quarterback that can

(58:06):
use the running back to distract you from just loading
up and back and off and trying to take away
to pass. So now they're going to bring people in
and with the offensive line that can actually go and
run block, you have less passing attempts. So by fault,

(58:27):
you're going to have less sacks. And so I'm looking
forward to seeing what Kayley did life.

Speaker 3 (58:35):
I just you know, you start to run for your life.

Speaker 1 (58:39):
You start to look at this offensive line and where
they're trying to go and what they're trying to build
throughout this moment and the correction is it more of
an over correction?

Speaker 3 (58:52):
Is it a correction.

Speaker 1 (58:53):
That has put themselves in the conversation of being put there?
You start looking at their offense'sive line. They have Cam
Robinson who they brought in. They brought in Ersa. He
is six six three thirty one. Cam Robinson is sixty
six three thirty five. They got Titus Howard six' five
three point thirty, Two Blake fisher is six, Six Trent

(59:17):
brown is six, eight three.

Speaker 2 (59:19):
Sixty they are gonna run at. You you're gonna be. Tired,
yeah and then they're gonna play action you to. Death
they're gonna do that's where he's. Best and they actually
they were hurt THEY i mean they wide receiver, wise,
man how many how many games That collins?

Speaker 3 (59:37):
Missed they'll went down for the season like they They
they've added to the wide receiver corps, too so they're
gonna be.

Speaker 1 (59:43):
Alright, yeah it's gonna be one of those situations Where
i'm excited to see if they can get it figured.
Out but, man oh, man if they, don't how bad
Will Nick cassario look by making all those trades to
get rid of those offensive one Block you gotta get

(01:00:03):
rid of those, Guys, yeah no, doubt especially if you
throw the ball a.

Speaker 3 (01:00:06):
Lot so here we, go coming up.

Speaker 1 (01:00:08):
Next you know what time it is The world's strongest
man bringing you the world's strongest take right here on
the morning kickoff On Sports RADIO am thirteen Hundred The zone.

Speaker 3 (01:00:40):
Man my. Gush back then they didn't know. Me Now i'm.
Hot they all on.

Speaker 15 (01:00:46):
Me.

Speaker 3 (01:00:48):
GUYS i come to you with a heavy.

Speaker 2 (01:00:53):
Heart My, lakers WHO i had a lot of faith
in WHO i crowned, them told us who they.

Speaker 3 (01:01:03):
Were they are who we thought they. Were, okay, No Dennis,
green they aren't exactly who we thought they.

Speaker 2 (01:01:12):
Were we all thought after the, trade because of the
run that The lakers made after the, trade that they
would be able to pretty much walk through The Minnesota,
timberwolves possibly Beat denver Or Oklahoma city and be the

(01:01:34):
representative for The west in THE Nba.

Speaker 3 (01:01:39):
Finals didn't.

Speaker 2 (01:01:43):
Happen and a lot of the reasons that that didn't
happen was because of continuity and the pieces that were
on that. Team and this is not just after the,
trade this is before the. Trade The lakers were gonna

(01:02:04):
have a problem because the biggest guy that they've had
in their rotation Was Jackson, hayes and he's six, eleven
but he's only two hundred and twenty five, POUNDS i
mean two hundred twenty five, pounds probably two hundred and
twenty five pounds worth of food this, week.

Speaker 3 (01:02:22):
Like he's not a big. Guy The lakers have got
to retool their. Roster now that the season is.

Speaker 2 (01:02:32):
Over you can go in to fix it, mode And
i'm Gonna i'm gonna tell you who they. Have they
Have Jackson, hayes WHO i told, he's you, know super
Athletic university Of texas, guy shout out hook, Him.

Speaker 3 (01:02:47):
Trey jamison And Max.

Speaker 2 (01:02:51):
Kiebler they Have alex lynn And Mark Keith morris who
is six.

Speaker 3 (01:02:58):
Nine.

Speaker 2 (01:03:01):
Alex lynne, street closed Never played cloaco played a, little bit,
not effective and as, you Said Hard max keebler was

(01:03:21):
Not The, keebler Els But max keebler that came in
the Trade with Luca. From dallas he was injured and
he was only activated last night and he only played.
Five minutes maybe the ankle wasn't. Right Yet But trey
jamison zero minutes in. The Playoffs jackson hayes played five

(01:03:43):
minutes the. Last game he played pretty much the entire
season as their.

Speaker 3 (01:03:49):
Rotational center.

Speaker 2 (01:03:52):
He would be the only GUY that i kept on
the roster. Next Year jackson hayes would be the only
one they need to go out and find about four
guys that are between seven feet tall two hundred and,
fifty pounds and all they want to do, is rebound,
block shots and punch your mama in. The Mouth, the

(01:04:14):
lakers they don't, have toughness they don't. Have size they have,
enough scoring they have their their they're a perimeter based.
Shooting team you know that the center is not going
to be shooting. Stretch threes that's not.

Speaker 3 (01:04:30):
Their game so go out and get people that can do.

Speaker 11 (01:04:35):
The job what?

Speaker 3 (01:04:36):
Say you.

Speaker 2 (01:04:40):
And then also BEFORE before i hand, it over can
we can You put docton connect back in the in?

Speaker 3 (01:04:48):
The rotation please?

Speaker 2 (01:04:51):
Don't connect was the most athletic guy on the floor
Outside Of.

Speaker 3 (01:04:54):
LEBRON james i think.

Speaker 1 (01:04:57):
Your problem has got nothing to do with. The personnel
it's the person pulling. The strings IT Was. JJ Reddick
jj reddick thought that he could walk in because He.
Had lebron he has no experience as a, basketball coach
like you have to understand how to go through. Certain
things just because you're a player doesn't make you a.

(01:05:21):
Great Coach Kim. Griffy jr will be the first to
TELL you i was a, great HITTER but i couldn't
teach you how.

Speaker 3 (01:05:27):
TO hit jj was. A shooter.

Speaker 1 (01:05:32):
Jj wasn't all. DEFENSIVE team i just saw a note
just now that Spoke Of luka doncins as the. Primary
defender he defended. Sixteen drives nine of them. Were blowbys
so it goes back to your point of trying to
get somebody to defend a rim and you don't. Do

(01:05:55):
that you, know why because you're not experienced as, a
coach because your game is on.

Speaker 2 (01:06:00):
THE perimeter i want you to be so confident in
playing up on guys and challenging them because if they do,
beat you you have somebody that's gonna turn. Them, away
lakers once you Blow, by luca it's, a, layup, right.

Speaker 1 (01:06:19):
Man and they're going to the crib because they didn't
orchestrate the right things for. The team and, YOU know
i keep Picking on luca because Everybody in dallas thinks
that he was gonna save their team because he went
to the playoffs that one year and went to.

Speaker 3 (01:06:39):
The finals and here's. The thing He had kyrie. With
him he had people that.

Speaker 1 (01:06:48):
Could hoop You, have lebron one of the greatest of,
all times, he's forty and you mismanaged. His minutes, But
look leron should, HAVE said i don't care what.

Speaker 3 (01:07:02):
YOU say i need to yes at least nine minutes.
This game let me.

Speaker 1 (01:07:07):
Sit out the pot of your thing is getting chipped.
Right now he is that they are finding, his kryptonite and.
It's minutes father time waits. For nobody you can, Do.
Everything lebron you look. Great physically, for you you look
great because you spend a million dollars on.

Speaker 3 (01:07:29):
YOUR body i. Get it you're forty, years. Old bro.

Speaker 1 (01:07:33):
You can't. Do it you can't. Do it so it's
gonna be a, difficult rebuild as you like to say
or whatever they.

Speaker 3 (01:07:41):
Gotta do, actual rebuild it's going to.

Speaker 1 (01:07:43):
Be difficult and you mortgaged now your future because You
knew lebron was on his.

Speaker 3 (01:07:48):
Way out you went and got you.

Speaker 1 (01:07:50):
A superstar but your superstar is not playing both ends of.

Speaker 3 (01:07:54):
The floor he has never.

Speaker 1 (01:07:57):
Done that and people are Mad in Dallas because, HEKKO
said i need somebody to. Play defense as street Closed
As anthony davis.

Speaker 3 (01:08:05):
Is in he's up.

Speaker 1 (01:08:06):
For defense he was Up For defensive player Of the
year year in and year out because he plays and
he still gives You forty those are the Things that
lebron was talking about when, he's, LIKE well i didn't
know we were. Trading, ad yeah everybody thinks that you
could put a Guy like luca on a team and
just he hasn't. Won anything he hasn't, Won anything so

(01:08:29):
love him as much as. You want he could be your,
favorite player but he's also a liability when it comes
to playing the. Whole game we'll come back close out,

On Purpose with Jay Shetty

On Purpose with Jay Shetty

I’m Jay Shetty host of On Purpose the worlds #1 Mental Health podcast and I’m so grateful you found us. I started this podcast 5 years ago to invite you into conversations and workshops that are designed to help make you happier, healthier and more healed. I believe that when you (yes you) feel seen, heard and understood you’re able to deal with relationship struggles, work challenges and life’s ups and downs with more ease and grace. I interview experts, celebrities, thought leaders and athletes so that we can grow our mindset, build better habits and uncover a side of them we’ve never seen before. New episodes every Monday and Friday. Your support means the world to me and I don’t take it for granted — click the follow button and leave a review to help us spread the love with On Purpose. I can’t wait for you to listen to your first or 500th episode!
