Speaker 1 (00:00):
Thirteen hundred of This Zone presents a special NFL Draft
show live from Twin Peaks and Round Rock. Here's your hosts,
Craig way By, Harge park Henry and Cameron Parker.
Speaker 2 (00:16):
We are inside our final hour of the NFL Draft
preview show from here at Twin Peaks at I thirty
five and Louis Hena Boulevard. Here in Round Rock, rain
is stop. So that's a good thing. And it looks
like we'll be bringing you Round Rock Express Baseball at
six fifty. But prior to that, with the draft inside
(00:36):
an hour to beginning, we have one final portion of
the show to go coming up in a few minutes.
Speaker 3 (00:44):
We'll be the morning kickoff.
Speaker 2 (00:46):
Guy's conversation with John McLean and his thoughts at He's
he always has an opinion and is not shy about
sharing it.
Speaker 4 (00:54):
Not at all.
Speaker 5 (00:55):
And you know he's a Waco guy, big Baylor Bear fan,
so we were giving him some ribs about that as well.
Speaker 3 (01:01):
Okay, all right, we'll look forward uh to that.
Speaker 2 (01:05):
As we mentioned, there's been uh not a great deal
of draft buzz about what could happen uh with uh
with some of these guys in the first round and
that maybe things stand pat stand where they are. Uh,
one of the teams that's been mentioned, and during the
(01:25):
breakup was looking up here at the top at one
of the screens and uh, when it happened.
Speaker 3 (01:33):
When when the this happened, I was watching.
Speaker 2 (01:37):
Uh they were listing mel Kiper's best five available, and
of the top five available, his number five was Shador Sanders.
And we've had a lot of conversation about him today.
But it's gonna be weird to see that his name
continue to pop up through the first three hours. If
indeed he doesn't go in the first ron out.
Speaker 6 (02:00):
How can he see it and everybody else don't?
Speaker 2 (02:05):
Yeah, Yeah, across across the country. You're right, And and
I think others do see it. I think others do
see it, but the ones who matter most, the personnel
people and whatever apparently are either looking at it from
a perspective of we have a.
Speaker 3 (02:21):
Different need or or or want for what.
Speaker 4 (02:29):
That come with it.
Speaker 6 (02:30):
Yeah, And thequestion somebody what they're not gonna do, what
their plan for my franchise is?
Speaker 3 (02:38):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (02:39):
And and I have a hard time believing that any
any rookie, regardless of the accolades, regardless of what he did,
is going to come in and try to tell an
organization or a head coach or or a coordinator how
to do their job.
Speaker 3 (02:57):
What about.
Speaker 2 (02:59):
What a what about Andrew luck Well, well, let me
tell you with with l Way and to a lesser extent,
Eli Manning, what it was was not so much about
telling somebody how to do their job. It was about
telling somebody where they wanted to be employed. Correct, correct,
And you know it's a big difference. Yeah, I've worked
(03:22):
for you, and I'll listen to it. I'll take it,
But I don't want to work for that organization, right,
I want to work for this organization. And that was
unusual because you didn't have potential draft picks trying to
orchestrate that. Now we see more of that happened Kayleb Williams.
Speaker 4 (03:37):
Right last year.
Speaker 3 (03:38):
Right, so you see it. It's a little more.
Speaker 2 (03:42):
Commonplace today than say it.
Speaker 4 (03:45):
Was in the past. Yeah, well, I'm either way.
Speaker 6 (03:49):
I don't like the fact that you can't blatantly say
I'm not an East Coast guy. I don't want to
play in New York. I don't want to play in Buffalo,
it's cold. I don't want to play a Philly I'd
rather be a Miami h like and leave it up
to Miami to say, well, we're gonna have to make
a move to get in.
Speaker 2 (04:09):
You know who said he did not want to play
where he was going to go?
Speaker 3 (04:13):
Oh J Simpson.
Speaker 2 (04:15):
Now, back in those days, you really have a choice
either that or you're going where it's even colder.
Speaker 3 (04:20):
You want to a Canadian football league.
Speaker 2 (04:21):
And so he went to Buffalo and then ultimately made
it his own and then his wife life turned out
for the rest of the way that it turned out.
Speaker 4 (04:29):
But what happened the Electric Company San Francisco.
Speaker 2 (04:32):
Yay, exactly all right, before we get to the break.
Before we get to the break, we're here at Twin Peaks.
But and we've been giving the shout out from Twin Peaks.
But who better to get the shout out from Twin
Peaks than an actual employee of Twin Peaks. So that's
why we turned the microphone over to Haley, who is
expertly doing it. So, so what kind of shout out
(04:53):
are you giving here today?
Speaker 3 (04:55):
Haley?
Speaker 7 (04:56):
My name is Haley.
Speaker 8 (04:57):
I work here at Twin Peaks and Browndrock off of
Lewis FO and I would be pleasure to tell me
all that we are hosting our own first round pick
draft party tonight from four pm to twelve am. We
have I School beer, twenty nine degrees, hot food, great atmosphere,
scenic views, and we would love for y'all to come in.
Speaker 4 (05:15):
Well, Roddie, I could not have said no, I can't.
Speaker 8 (05:19):
He comes in my section?
Speaker 1 (05:21):
There you go?
Speaker 4 (05:21):
All right, you go, that's right?
Speaker 3 (05:23):
Or you can sit in is it Taniya section?
Speaker 8 (05:26):
Miss Tanya also great, great waitress. We would love for
y'all to come in and ask for Haley and Tanya
ask for Haley section.
Speaker 3 (05:33):
So twelve am there, it is all right.
Speaker 2 (05:36):
When we come back, we'll hear from John McClain when
we continue here on thirteen under the Zone.
Speaker 1 (05:43):
Welcome back to our special NFL Draft show live from
Twin Peaks and Round Rock. Here's your hosts, Craig Way.
Speaker 3 (05:50):
My Cards, Mark Henry, and Cameron Parker.
Speaker 2 (05:56):
All right, you're gonna want to jump right into this
because as we start to hit toward the final thirty
minutes of a program here and I'll let you do
the introductions for a legendary Hall of Fame writer who
has covered the NFL for decades.
Speaker 5 (06:11):
Yeah, he is one of the best to ever do it.
And you were telling me a story about you guys
working together on the Texas Sports Hall of Fame and
being able to work with him, and he is just
one of the best. And I promise you are not
going to be disappointed when you hear our interview with
the legendary John McClain. The question that I have is,
(06:33):
what is the story that is going on that, Well,
Kelvin Banks might fall all the way to number twenty
five and fall right into the lap of your Houston Texans.
Speaker 9 (06:45):
Well, I think anybody believes that doesn't have a clue
about Sheldon Banks Junior. What's he done all of a
sudden to go from like a top ten or twelve pig,
so all of a sudden fall into twenty five and
they get up on the wrong side of the bed.
Speaker 7 (07:00):
I don't understand it.
Speaker 9 (07:02):
At one point, people are talking about Banks being the
first offensive lineman.
Speaker 7 (07:07):
Now they're talking about him being third.
Speaker 9 (07:10):
But I'll tell you this, if he were available at
twenty five, the Texans would jump all overcuse is no
way he's going to be available. They need an offensive lineman,
so they'll have to draft someone else.
Speaker 4 (07:23):
So let's stay right there for a second.
Speaker 5 (07:25):
Because of the fact that the Houston Texans have had
a very interesting offseason. For those that are watching from afar,
you can probably shed a lot of light on it.
They get rid of most of their offensive line pretty much.
I think it was like seventy five percent of its
starting line has now been changed. They make a move
on the defensive side. Why is it that it was
(07:48):
time for them to make a change on the offensive line.
Speaker 7 (07:51):
Because their offensive line was terrible.
Speaker 9 (07:55):
CJ's draft was pressured more than any quarterback in the
NFL last year and third and most sacks and that's
according to the next ten stats. And a Texans offensive
lineman at least one was beaten at the snap forty
(08:16):
something percent. I think it was forty one percent of
the past plays and that was the most in the
league by far. So instead of trying to put a
band aid on, if they fired their offensive line coach
and they fired Bobby Sloan, therofensive coordinator who went to Miami,
(08:36):
and they decided they needed to take a jackhammer to it,
and left guard Kenyan Green will go out as the
biggest bust in team mystery.
Speaker 7 (08:51):
But they did him a favor.
Speaker 9 (08:53):
They trade him to Philadelphia where he'll work with the
best offensive line coach, Jeff Stallin.
Speaker 7 (08:58):
And if he can't make it there, he's not going
to make it anywhere.
Speaker 9 (09:01):
They cut their right guard, Shaq Mason, who gave up
ten alf sacks. Nobody saw it coming because he had
played well the year before. And then the moves that
surprised everybody was trading their left tack, Alamie Tunsall, their
past pass protector, to Washington for multiple draft picks. And
they did that with Tunsul because when they quired him
(09:24):
from Miami in twenty nineteen, they redid his contract made him.
Speaker 7 (09:29):
The highest paid offensive lineman in history.
Speaker 9 (09:32):
Next time they redid it, they made him the highest
paid offensive lineman in history. His contract expires in two
let's see, after the twenty twenty six season, and he
was already making noise about being the next highest paid
again and they weren't going to do it. They didn't
want any contract issues, so they shipped him out. They
(09:54):
put up you know, they brought in four guys, and
if any of them were any good, they wouldn't have
been af So they need an offensive lineman who could
play can solidified left tackle. The one I would like
to see them get is Ohio State Josh Simmons, who
would have been if he's healthy, he would have been
a top offensive lineman taken. But he blew out his
(10:17):
patiller at tendon in October. And even if he had
to sit out, and everybody says he's going to be healthy,
but even if he had to set out, I would
take it because the guy is really good. If you
had to play a guardier like Tomson Dos a rookie,
you could do that. If you had to do that
with Kelvin Banks junior for a year, you could do that.
(10:39):
I'm curious that if indeed Banks dropped to say nineteen
or twenty, would they trade up and get him. They
have enough draft choices over the next two years. But
I'm not counting on that one bit, Johnna.
Speaker 6 (10:55):
I'm waiting to see un die hard for uh. But
outside of that, if you had a pick, and you
you knew that this is the most important thing that
the Texas needed, what would you pick.
Speaker 9 (11:08):
I pick an offensive tackle because they're desperate. I take
that offensive tackle. When anybody complained about it, I'd say you.
Speaker 7 (11:20):
And leave it at that.
Speaker 9 (11:21):
Shows your primary asset is CJ. Stroud. Some people have
them taking a wide receiver in the first round.
Speaker 4 (11:28):
That's what I was saying.
Speaker 9 (11:28):
Unless it's somebody rated way above where they and he's available,
I don't see it. They're starting receivers last year, Nego
Collins take Dell third round or step on Digg's fifth rounder.
You don't have to do that in the first round.
And so I think they're going to take am offensive alignment.
Could be a guard like uh Gray's Abel North Dakota State,
(11:53):
could be a guard like Tyler Booking from Alabama, Donovan
Jackson from Ohio State, and they can get a wide
receiver in the second round.
Speaker 4 (12:04):
We're talking to John McClain.
Speaker 5 (12:05):
You can follow them on social media at McClain underscore
on Underscore NFL. And John, we all know, for those
that are new to the show, you are a huge
Baylor Bear fan, so your love hate relationship with the
University of Texas runs deeper than most. You're from Waco,
so you understand it all. But my question for you
(12:27):
is looking at this year and last year, as a
matter of fact, the growth of this Texas football team
and the development of these Texans football players. Eleven went
to the Combine last year. This year they are sending
fourteen and there are a lot of guys that may
be first rounders. Do you think that the Texans will
(12:51):
end up with a Texas Longhorn?
Speaker 7 (12:54):
Oh. I don't have any idea they might get another round.
Speaker 9 (12:57):
I don't think Banks is going to be there and
easy all offensive lineman worthy of being a first round pick.
But they certainly could another one because one of the
good things that stands out about the Long Orange skill
position players is their speed. That's one thing Steve Starcusian
and his staff have done a great job of recruiting.
Now we all know he should have pulled yours for
(13:19):
arch Manning on the goal line, but that's hindsight. And
like everybody else, I can't wait to see what Arch does.
I've known Archie since he played here with the Oilers
in eighty two and eighty three, and no Peyton and
don't know Eli that everybody can't wait, and they get
receivers transferring in there because they all want to play
(13:41):
with Arch Manning, and UT's recruiting is just going to
continue to skyrocket. And I like the Long Orange a
lot better since they play in the SEC. But I'll
say this ever since I was a kid in Waco
and would cry every year when Texas.
Speaker 7 (13:58):
Would beat Baylor.
Speaker 9 (14:00):
When you too beat Texas, it means more than anybody else.
You beat Daggy, so what. But boy, when you beat
the long arm, that's achieving something. And I just wish
John mcavic was still the coach.
Speaker 4 (14:14):
Why would you wish that upon us, sir.
Speaker 9 (14:17):
Because Baylor used to hammer the long arms when mcavick
was there.
Speaker 6 (14:21):
Do you remember Curtis Hafford, who was that uh you
played middle linebacker for Baylor. He came from a rival
school and as a relative, he was really really like
an important piece to Baylor in the in the eighties,
late eighties.
Speaker 9 (14:39):
Eight I'm a front runner and Baylor's playing well like
they did the second part last season.
Speaker 7 (14:45):
I'm all about it.
Speaker 9 (14:47):
When they stink it up early, then I got you
mad want to tweet and blast them, So I'm careful.
Speaker 7 (14:53):
Right now.
Speaker 9 (14:54):
I'm bad at the basketball program because every single player
on the team is gone. I think even the walk
cars are gone.
Speaker 4 (15:00):
They're making some moves.
Speaker 5 (15:02):
JOHNA.
Speaker 4 (15:02):
Will let you go with this.
Speaker 5 (15:04):
Do you see any unexpected moves in this year's draft,
something that a lot of folks are going to be
scratching their head, Not like Nico Harrison, Trade and Luca,
but something like that.
Speaker 9 (15:17):
I think if Sanders were to go second to the
Browns or third to the Giants at this point, nobody's
thinking that in the mock drafts.
Speaker 7 (15:25):
I think that would shake up the draft.
Speaker 9 (15:28):
And I hope Sad Sanders go somewhere where he can
play and sticks it up to everybody's butts. To all
of a sudden, it started to trash him anonymously because
they're gutless and he hadn't done anything to deserve it.
Speaker 2 (15:44):
Well, that's a good way to end it, telling him
where they could put it in a certain place. And
that brings it full circle of what we were saying
about Shador Sanders and what might happen there. All right,
we need to break when we come back our final segments,
and we'll get a couple of predictions from our panel
as we get ready to wrap it up. From here. Here,
(16:06):
I thirty five at Lewis Henna Boulevard. Here it's Twin
Peaks and round Rock here where we're bringing our draft show.
Speaker 3 (16:12):
I'm thirteen under.
Speaker 1 (16:13):
The zone Welcome back to our special NFL Draft show
live from Twin Peaks and Round Rock. Here's your hosts,
Craig Way, My Cards, Mark Henry, and Cameron Parker.
Speaker 3 (16:29):
All Right, we get ready to wrap it up.
Speaker 2 (16:30):
Got a few minutes to go here before we hand
it off to Ryland Cobra and Round Rock Express Baseball
tonight at Dell Diamonds. So we have that coming up
here in just a few moments.
Speaker 3 (16:39):
Now.
Speaker 2 (16:41):
In the time left, we've all kind of given our
thoughts on different things, whether it be Chador Sanders or
Longhorns to be drafted, or players to slide or whatever
that sort of thing. So now I'm bringing it back
full circle with regard to the Cowboys in Texans. So
some final thoughts on this thing from you guys. What
(17:04):
do you think the Cowboys are gonna do?
Speaker 5 (17:05):
I think the Cowboys take Matthew Golden with the number
twelve pick. I just think that's the way that it's
gonna go. I know our guy Cam believes it's gonna
be McMillan from Arizona, but I believe that it's gonna
be Matthew Golden at number twelve because he seems to
be the most talked about. The one that is in
(17:26):
a lot of mock drafts absolutely four two nine, and
that would make you want to be that guy.
Speaker 4 (17:34):
That would be my top.
Speaker 6 (17:35):
Well, I'm gonna tell you, in a perfect world, I
think that Hampton and a Mecca Abuka will drop in
the second round past thirty eight forty and I'm hoping
that our guy, the number one offensive lineman in the war,
(18:01):
well okay in the college football, slips to us and
comes to twelve for the Cowboys and then we end
up getting a really good left tackle.
Speaker 2 (18:09):
Well, it's interesting you bring that up obviously talking about
Calvin Banks, and we just had the conversation that you
guys had, uh with John McClain talking about how Kelvin
Meksican wind.
Speaker 4 (18:18):
Up protection right right exactly.
Speaker 3 (18:20):
And I think that's more of a reach obviously from
where the Texans are.
Speaker 6 (18:24):
Selecting obviously, But can't you can't you see that though,
can't you see grabbing Banks and then if he's trying
to move up in the second till within thirty eight
or forty getting Hampton get your running back, I think
in the Mecca Buka and and and uh, there's there's
this is a deep wide receiver class.
Speaker 4 (18:44):
You don't have to have golden like go.
Speaker 6 (18:48):
Get the best receiver on the board at that point.
Speaker 3 (18:50):
Well I would. I would say to you this two things.
Speaker 2 (18:53):
One, I'm not expecting Kelvin to last to twelve. If
he if he if he gets yeah, if he gets
to twelve, then if he gets to twelve, then that's
great for the Cowboys. But I don't think he's gonna
I don't think he's gonna fall that far. So, but
(19:15):
you know there's another guy. Uh, there's another guy that
they could get at the offensive tackle armand Membo from Missouri. Uh,
he's slotted in. It looks like the Panthers may go
for him at number eight. He could slide. That would
be another good pick for the Cowboys if it were
to work out that way to do that. I've got
a feeling that if that they may go wide receiver.
(19:39):
But it wouldn't surprise me if they went for Will Johnson,
the corner from Michigan. Wouldn't surprise me if he didn't listen.
If the Cowboys not surprised us on a draft day,
let me ask you that when have they not taken somebody.
Speaker 4 (19:52):
Going huh that scares me.
Speaker 2 (19:55):
That's I'm not saying what I think they need and
what they should do. I'm telling you what I think
is certainly within the possibility of them doing so.
Speaker 4 (20:05):
It would not shocked me.
Speaker 2 (20:06):
It wouldn't shock me if it if it were to
happen then and then and then further on down the
draft for for the Texans fans, who might you see Houston?
I I kind of agree. Also what I saw field Yates,
he's thinking they're going to go for Josh Connerley, the
offensive tackle from Oregon.
Speaker 5 (20:25):
If it's not gonna be him, it's going to be Booker, Booker,
another offensive lineman, if he's available. I believe that's the
direction that they're going to go because they have so
much that they got to replace.
Speaker 2 (20:36):
That's true enough, they have to Yeah, yeah, so that
would that would be a big part of it.
Speaker 6 (20:41):
Can you see him double dipping like even with that
second pick, like moving up and well.
Speaker 2 (20:46):
They've Gorney made the one deal with the Brown so
they could packet some picks together to move a little higher.
Speaker 3 (20:50):
It would.
Speaker 2 (20:51):
It wouldn't surprise me. Just like we said that could
that could happen? All right, It's gonna wrap up le brogan, Well,
a lot of fun we've had out here.
Speaker 4 (20:58):
Man, this was awesome.
Speaker 3 (20:59):
Can we harts? Can we make this an annual tradition here?
Speaker 4 (21:02):
I think it should be.
Speaker 5 (21:03):
I mean you start to look around and believe that
this is what we need to do.
Speaker 4 (21:08):
Let's make it happen.
Speaker 3 (21:09):
One times I happened and two times is a winning streak,
you know.
Speaker 2 (21:13):
So We're thankful to the people from Twin Peaks having
us out here, the wait staff as well, obviously thanks
to our crew. Marcus Spears are on site engineer as well.
Thanks as well also to Ronald Savage, junior, our producer

Speaker 3 (21:54):
