Speaker 1 (00:12):
Football season is upon us in the NFL takes center
stage this weekend, but most importantly, it's all about the
Dallas Cowboys. And joining us now on the hotline is RJ.
Speaker 2 (00:25):
A Choa.
Speaker 1 (00:26):
You can follow him at r J Andchoa. He's the
managing and editor in chief at Blogging the Boys. RJ
thanks for taking the time, my man.
Speaker 3 (00:35):
Of course, thanks much for having me. Happy Friday, happy weekend,
Happy football season. That's kind of the.
Speaker 2 (00:39):
Year, no doubt about it.
Speaker 1 (00:41):
The off season has been with a lot of controversy
when it comes to the Dallas Cowboys. And when you
think Dallas Cowboys, you gotta start at the top Jerry Jones.
This entire offseason has been in the headlines shocker talking
about contracts.
Speaker 2 (00:57):
You get CD done.
Speaker 1 (00:59):
You're not really looking at Micah yet, but the story
is Dak Prescott.
Speaker 2 (01:04):
As we get ready to head into the season.
Speaker 1 (01:06):
In your heart of hearts, do you think this deal
is going to be done with the Dallas Cowboys.
Speaker 3 (01:14):
I mean, you know, you ask my heart of hearts,
I mean the answered the question. I think I have
to use my brain, my head, I mean logically, it
would be incredibly stupid not to get it done, to
be quite honest with you, But it would be incredibly
stupid to not get it done in March. It would
be incredibly stupid to not get it done at training camp.
(01:37):
It would be incredibly stupid to leave Oxnard and return
to the friscal portion of training camp. Or we are
so deep down the rabbit hole of stupid that it's
difficult to answer heart of hearts because I'm well at
my point of panic. I'm at Defcon one because it
(01:58):
should have never gotten to this exact point. Does the
romantic in me, you know, hope that maybe they pull
something off in the eleventh hour here and get it done. Absolutely,
But I really cannot believe that it is the Friday
before Week one, that an NFL game has already been played,
and that it still has not been taken care of.
Speaker 4 (02:18):
R J Mark Henry Here. I'm a Cowboy fan too,
and I know this sounds like a group of people
that's trying to like get through the misery. But do
you feel like Dak is being a little bit going
a little bit overboard with wanting a four or five
(02:39):
year deal.
Speaker 3 (02:43):
I mean, I certainly can't speak to exactly what DAK wants. Obviously,
because I don't know. But if we presume it is,
you know, something along those lines, I don't see how
if we presume that Dak is asking for something along
the lines of market rate, I don't think that that's
unfair at all. Because of the fact that a he
(03:06):
plays the most valuable position in the game, not necessarily
just that he's the Cowboys quarterback, but that he's a quarterback.
Faith has smiled upon him and that this is his
line of work, and he has bet on himself and
kind of been forced to because the team hasn't. The
Cowboys could have extended him in March of last year.
They could have come off that fifteen interception season and say, hey,
(03:27):
you know what, dude, we believe in you. We know
you're coming off this year with all these interceptions and
all this stuff, but we know you're the guy. We
know you still have two years left on your deal.
We want to take care of you. Now, let's do
the business together. And maybe he would have taken something different,
and maybe it would have been a four year deal
at that point in time, because it's a four year
extension on top of two remaining years, right, But they didn't.
They and not only did they not do it? They
(03:47):
let him go be their sacrificial lamb for everything. I mean, yes,
there are certainly people who say things about Jerry Jones
and Stephen Jones, but Dak bears the burden for all
of their mistakes, and he certainly has his fresh Air
mistakes too. But my point is that he has, you know,
had to put up with a lot of things. I mean,
we sit here on September the what is it sixth
(04:07):
or whatever, and he had his number one wide receiver
miss all of training camp because they couldn't get their
job done, you know, the star pass rusher on the
opposite side of the ball. He's not in a long
term contract situation that is obviously something that he would
likely prefer. I mean, this man has had to live
and thrive in the middle of all sorts of chaos
and has succeeded in the middle of all that you know,
(04:30):
kind of junk around him. So I don't think he's
being unreasonable if we presume that he's asking for things
that really every other NFL quarterback get.
Speaker 4 (04:38):
I feel like Harge is he's glaring at me right
now because he knows the questions that I'm going to
ask you, don't you feel like it's like cutting off
your hand despite your arm. When you have Michael Parsons
whose deal is coming up, and you have other players
that are along in the tooth that like the Marcus Lawrence,
(05:00):
you know, maybe their deals need to get put out
the pasture rather than than das.
Speaker 3 (05:09):
Well. I mean, first of all, I think the world
of Demarcusponse, but it's probably his last year with the Cowboys,
regardless of what happens with Micah or Dak or whatever
contractions it may be. Zach Martin last year, like you
mentioned there long in the two. That's just the reality
of where they're at in their NFL careers. But even
if that weren't the case, right like, even if if
they had multiple years remaining and they wanted to play
(05:30):
multiple years, maybe that does wind up happening. I mean,
all due respect, there's no cutting off your hand despite
your arm, or your face, or your foot, your toe
if you're idia likely trying to get it in the
end zone last night, because.
Speaker 2 (05:42):
You can, you can do it.
Speaker 3 (05:44):
All this this idea, this misconception that they're going to
sign back and they're just going to be stuck forever
and they're going to be miserable and they're not gonna
be able to do anything. The poor cowboys, the poor
Jones boys, they're going to be up in their front
office just stressing about building this roster. No, if they
want to roll their sleeves up and they want to work,
it is all doable. It is all attainable. It is
(06:05):
all within the realm of relative practicality. It isn't even
really that difficult. But I mean again, my issue isn't
with you. My issue is with the cowboys who pushed
this narrative that, oh my goodness, well we paid back,
so he's got to save us. No, bro, this is
your job. It's not DAK. Even if it did cripple them,
which again I want to make sure it is not
(06:25):
the case. But even if it did, that's not Dak's problem.
That's the front office's problem. It's their responsibility to put
this team together in the most financially responsible way possible.
DAK doesn't need to be doing and for the record,
nobody needs to be doing anybody in the front office
any papers.
Speaker 2 (06:41):
I love it. I love it. I'm all about that
right there. I want we're talking to RJ.
Speaker 1 (06:45):
Choa you can follow him at RJ Choa and he's
a blog and the Boys. Let's get into the game
because I'm tired of the conversations off the field. Let's
get onto the on the field counter. BB is somebody
that I believe is going to be an all pro.
I also believe that Tyron Gatton I meant Geiden is
going to be up against it this weekend, going up
(07:08):
against Miles Garrett. What do you see the Cowboys needing
to do to get a victory this week against that
vaunted Cleveland Browns defense.
Speaker 3 (07:17):
Yeah, I mean, this is a very stout group that
obviously features the reigning defensive player of the year, who,
if I may say on this particular station, went to
the best school in the state of Texas, the one
located in College Station.
Speaker 2 (07:29):
So we're all clear.
Speaker 3 (07:32):
As in instead, I mean that, you know, for all
the things people say about Dak Prescott, one of the
things he is extraordinarily good at is beating the blitz,
is beating things that are pressure related. And so this
is going to have to be a quick paced sort
of week.
Speaker 2 (07:48):
I know.
Speaker 3 (07:49):
McCarthy said on local radio this morning that they want
to run the ball. They're going to be committed to it.
I don't buy that personally. He said that all last
year and then they threw the ball at time. You also,
I think it's important to acknowledge the reality of the situation.
It's Bebi's first game, it's guy's first game. This is
going to be incredibly difficult. You're gonna take your bumps
in your licks and your bruises. But at the end
of the day, ultimately this Browns offense has really an
(08:13):
enormous amount of questions. I don't know that any of
us really feel confident that they're going to come out
and you know, be amazing in their own right. So
this is really just kind of steadying the ship, driving
the bus, and making sure you get out of Dodge
with a win before you come home to host the
saintsents with no doubt.
Speaker 2 (08:27):
We're talking to Arja at Shawan RJ. You know, Deuce Vaughan.
Speaker 1 (08:30):
Is gonna get his opportunity to travel with the team.
There's rumors that they have some packages that are put
together for him. Uh, is this something that the Cowboys
should have done last year? I know it's better late
than never, but I felt like they should have used
him in some creative ways last year to change up
the pace. Do you see him playing a big part?
(08:51):
Not huge, but enough to let you know that he's here.
Speaker 3 (08:56):
I mean, if you're going to carry him on the roster,
and I think should to be clear. But if you're
going to do it, then you have to do that
right because if you if you're trying to put a
square peg in a round hole, you're doing a disservice
to everybody. And due Fawn is not a carrier that
can handle whatever it is. You know, twenty touches a game.
You have to be creative, you have to be that,
(09:17):
you know, willing to kind of explain your horizon, so
to speak. And so I don't know that that happens
this week, to be quite honest with you, I maybe
that is something that is more of a slow burn
that maybe takes you know, a month or two of
the season to kind of ultimately unveil itself. But I
have a mild level of confidence that's the case. But
I mean I would definitely take the under onund touches
for Duce Fawn this year. I know we all are
(09:37):
excuse me, this week, I know we all have questions.
Who's going to be the primary running back to the
cow which who's going to carry it a load. I
remain unconvinced that anybody other than Zeke Kellit is going
to have the lion's share of the workload. Just because
he was the only one who got the superstar treatment
throughout the preseason, didn't have to put on shoulder pads,
didn't have to play a game. There is a reason
they brought him back and ignored doing everything else. It's
(09:58):
because he's their guy and they want to make sure
that he is number one on their debth truck.
Speaker 1 (10:02):
And let me ask you about Rico Dawdle. Rico Daudo.
A lot of people are expecting big things for him.
He was asked when Zeke came in, what did he see?
He said, I got kids. I'm motivated by my kids.
I'm not well motivated by another back. How special of
a year do you see for Rico Dowdell.
Speaker 3 (10:20):
I would love, you know, for there to be something significant.
I just I'm very fascinated to see what the workload
is going to look like and how it's going.
Speaker 2 (10:28):
To be divvied up.
Speaker 3 (10:29):
I mean, this is a player. If you recall who
the Cowboys did let hit free agency. I mean they
brought him back, obviously, but I mean this is not
somebody that they're invested in seriously, and so I think
it is still a little bit under construction in terms
of the overall plan I got. I said, I have
a hard time seeing how anybody that live than Deeke
(10:51):
Kelly's going to kind of have. You know, the most
touch is the most production, the most everything. That's not
to say that Rico can't still have a productive year
in parallel with all that. But as far as you
know my under earth, my perception of everything is concerned,
this is Keliot's backfield.
Speaker 2 (11:05):
Hmm. Interesting. I like that. I like that.
Speaker 1 (11:08):
Make sure y'all get over there and follow r J
as he breaks down the Cowboys and he lets you
know his insights that he has on all things Dallas.
Speaker 2 (11:18):
Do you expect the Boys to win this weekend?
Speaker 3 (11:21):
I do, Yeah, I mean they're underdogs, and I think
that that's interesting. And again, obviously Cleveland has an amazing defense,
but I do think that we're maybe not properly giving
enough way to have questionable that offense is. Obviously, Deshaun
Watson has yet to really find himself as a quarterback
for the Cleveland Browns, and so do they have some
talented playmakers, certainly, but Nick Chubb's not playing in this game.
(11:43):
They have questions along the offensive line related to health
right now. I just I'm not at all denying that
the Cleveland defense is going to be able to have
successes against the Cowboys offense, but I ultimately think that
that Dallas will probably just be able to put up
a number that Cleveland can't match.
Speaker 2 (11:58):
I love it, I love it. There you go. Appreciate you, bro,
Appreciate you.
Speaker 4 (12:01):
Man.
Speaker 1 (12:02):
Have a great weekend, and we'll get you back on
again to talk more things Cowboys, because I'm with you,
they need to hurry up and get this contract done.
And uh, I'm with you on the fact that it
should have been done a long time ago.
Speaker 2 (12:13):
Man, Appreciate you taking the time.
Speaker 3 (12:16):
Thanks for having me. Guys, have a great weekend and
go blue.
Speaker 1 (12:19):
There it is you know, it's it's It's one of
those things that I continue to say it. The Cowboys
have the money. Jerry wants us to believe that he
don't want to spend it. He wants to get all
that interest that's built up in there. But here's the
biggest thing. Pay it in a bonus man, pay it
in the bonus or pay it in deferred payments. You're
(12:42):
gonna it's gonna come to roost. You have to pay
the people. That's why you always have that dead cap money.
Get it cleared, get it done, and keep it moving.
Speaker 4 (12:54):
But they also don't want to do a four or
five year deal with that. Why they wanted to do
it three years? Why bring somebody?
Speaker 1 (13:01):
If you want to draft a quarterback, fine, bring a
quarterback in and develop them.
Speaker 2 (13:05):
How long did Aaron Rodgerson on the bench? He sat
there for a while.
Speaker 1 (13:11):
You have their problem is they never draft a quarterback
in the rounds that are are special. You always try
to wait and think you're gonna find the guy. Show
me where the development is with your coaches.
Speaker 2 (13:27):
They got lucky with Romo, They got lucky with that
absolutely look.
Speaker 1 (13:31):
And let's not forget everybody talks about Cooper Rush and
how he was Jason Garrett was.
Speaker 2 (13:36):
A backup too when he was a starter for us
for a long time. What ended up happening, right.
Speaker 1 (13:41):
Sorry, Foster, I know that's your boy, but uh yeah,
he was not the guy. When we come back, we
got the world's strongest man, bringing his world's strongest take
right here on the morning kickoff on Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (13:55):
Damn thirteen hundred does on
