Mark Henry, I am wearing my clown suit today. I
decided that it was time to rock and roll, and
I am not abandoned in the ship. Dallas Cowboys have
the kickoff special tonight as they will take on the

(02:32):
world champions. I don't understand why they said world. They
just call them the NFL champions, the Philadelphia Eagles tonight
in a ceremonial night, because they're going to raise the
banner tonight as they are the defending Super Bowl champions.
But we got aspirations, we got dreams, We've got expectations

(02:54):
of these Dallas Cowboys, and then we come back tomorrow
and talk about how mad we are out there.

Speaker 5 (03:02):
We realize about reality.

Speaker 1 (03:05):
So the Cowboys come into this game as an eight
and a half point dog.

Speaker 3 (03:11):
Eight and a half.

Speaker 1 (03:12):
I saw another one that went up to nine points.

Speaker 4 (03:17):
Mark say it ain't so, Bro say it is so.

Speaker 3 (03:22):
It's so.

Speaker 2 (03:23):
I think it's going to be a shootout because the
Cowboy offense. I think they didn't want to show what
they can do. And it's very simple hard. Even if
they go three wide receivers and put Jayden Blue in
the backfield, it's going to be very difficult to cover
all those people.

Speaker 3 (03:41):
And that Dak doesn't live by confidence.

Speaker 2 (03:46):
I think that having two wide receivers that draw double
coverage even if he gets lucky if he throws it
near him, he got two guys that can make plays
and bail him out.

Speaker 3 (03:59):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (04:00):
I'm looking over here at DraftKings. Get over the DraftKings
dot com, you know, because we're gonna give you a
chance to win some money. I'm looking over here at DraftKings.
They dropped it down to seven and a half with
the over under being forty seven and a half. So
you think it's gonna be a shootout, so you would
probably want to play the over in this matchup.

Speaker 3 (04:23):
But this is gonna be an over game hard.

Speaker 4 (04:26):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (04:27):
I mean, I've been wrong before, but I think this
is gonna be like one of those thirty one to
thirty five games.

Speaker 4 (04:36):
Wow.

Speaker 1 (04:37):
I mean, I ain't gonna be mad at you because
that means that's some things was going in the right
direction and some people were playing at a high level.
I know you talked about the fact that you said
that I don't. I know that the Cowboys didn't show
didn't want to show much in the preseason, and I'm like,
we heard the reports.

Speaker 4 (04:57):
The entire time.

Speaker 1 (04:57):
When they did have the first team offense, it didn't
look smooth. The running game is the one part of
the football game that the Cowboys. I want to make
sure that they can run the football. You know, we
got a home run hitter in Jaden Blue. We talked
about that. But when you start to look at everybody else,
your your your Javonte Williams. Is he going to be

(05:21):
a guy that the Cowboys can depend on? Is he
going to be that that guy that can pound the
rock in between the tackles? You look at Miles Sanders,
is he going to be that person? What is that
defense going to be like? Now that Micah Parsons isn't there?
Are they going to be better? Don't forget. Not only

(05:42):
is Parsons not there, the Marcus Lawrence ain't there. I
mean they've lost both bookends. They're playing elsewhere. So what
what is this team gonna be?

Speaker 2 (05:55):
Like you told me the other day, probably, well not
the other day, but about three weeks ago when we
were talking about fantasy draft, you said, man, you got
to quit picking with your heart and go with the
statistics if you want to win for real, the Cowboys
have got to do the same thing you told me.
You gotta fill mouth for two hundred and thirty five

(06:16):
pounds back on third dowinety one.

Speaker 3 (06:19):
I don't give a damn who's on the bench.

Speaker 2 (06:22):
You run him out there and at least use him
as a threat to bunch it up and pound it in.
That's that's the odds. You're going with the odds. Then
you can free up to see the lamb. If you
want to diversify, go four wides and tell dak as
soon as you see the back of somebody's jersey, then

(06:45):
you run one yard and slide, live to fight another day.

Speaker 3 (06:48):
They don't.

Speaker 2 (06:49):
The Cowboys don't do nothing that makes sense. And blind
took the blinders to come off. The blinders off.

Speaker 3 (06:59):
I'm not gonna be ma.

Speaker 4 (07:02):
Marfa is hurt. He's not playing in the game.

Speaker 6 (07:04):
It's some obvious that the Cowboys need to do is
use the running back in the passing that that would
be especially.

Speaker 4 (07:11):
Always use the running back.

Speaker 6 (07:14):
In particular when when you have two receivers who can
take the top off the field, you're gonna have like open, open,
open running back passing routes for your running back.

Speaker 1 (07:27):
Well, that's always been there. He's he's been one of
those guys that can dump the ball off. Don't forget
about what Zeke was able to do during his time
there and every other running back that the Cowboys had,
why do you think Tony Pollard was able to go
get paid? So that that is going to be part
of the game plan. But when you look at and
and Marfa, just so you know, he's he's on injury reserve,
so he's not gonna be able to be in the game. Uh.

(07:49):
They just signed their full back, uh lim Key, And
so we're gonna end up seeing, you know, the power
running game at some point, which is fine. I'm all
good with that, but I wanted to make sure too
that we look at this team and we say, all right,
now is the time for us to go. But where
are they going to go? And let's not forget what's

(08:10):
on the other side. When you look at the Philadelphia
Eagles and their defensive front, this is going to be
a huge challenge for the Dallas Cowboys. Their defensive line
is not to be messed with. When you look at
Moro Ojamo, who we talked about as a name that
you need to be paying attention to coming up, Jordan Davison,

(08:30):
Jalen Henderson, and then you got the I mean Jalen Carter,
excuse me, and they just keep coming at you so
and then they got them dudes in the back end
on that defense that have made play after play. But
I'm more excited tonight, to be quite honest with you.
That's all good, but I'm ready to see the replacement
for Michael Parsons. And I can't wait to see what

(08:55):
George Pickens is going to do tonight. That is what
I want to see happened throughout this tonight's football game, win, lose,
a draw. I want to see what's going to happen
with those guys in their development in this organization.

Speaker 2 (09:09):
What about the big defensive tackle that's coming over in exchange?

Speaker 1 (09:13):
Oh yeah, well I expect that from him. I expect
that because I mean he all pro. I mean that's what.

Speaker 3 (09:20):
Do well too.

Speaker 4 (09:21):
Yeah, so it's going to be interesting.

Speaker 1 (09:23):
But here's the other part of it, Mark, What is
what is Schottenheimer?

Speaker 4 (09:27):
Shoddy?

Speaker 3 (09:28):
What is shoddy?

Speaker 4 (09:29):
Misteric?

Speaker 1 (09:29):
I'm cool with everybody. I gotta I gotta take it easy.
It's just the game shoddy. What is he going to do?
And how are we gonna look at him moving forward?

Speaker 2 (09:40):
Why why are you messing with him like you have
this disdain for him?

Speaker 3 (09:45):
But you really don't believe in it.

Speaker 1 (09:47):
I tried, I tried, I'm trying. I have nothing to
go off of. We saw what happened in training camp.
They did not look good. They did not look good
at Hall at all, Mark.

Speaker 3 (10:03):
So for me, there's a lot to be desired.

Speaker 1 (10:07):
So we will see now the veteran presence of a
Dak Prescott. I'm not worried about Ceedee Lamb and his relationship.
You look at what's going on with Jake Ferguson. Cool
with that. We still got the rookie Booker and Tyler Smith.
Is Tyler Geiiton healthy? Remember he's coming off of that
knee injury. So what is it going to be like

(10:28):
as because you talked about it the other day, Mark,
you were talking about the ground and pound. You want
to see them get in there and mold people over. Well,
this ain't the team to try to mold people over.
When you start to look at who they are as
a defensive squad, you're not just gonna mold him over.
You're gonna have to put some work in and be

(10:49):
locked in in this particular ball game.

Speaker 4 (10:52):
Are they gonna be able to, as the coacher say, oh.

Speaker 1 (10:54):
What you got when you get ready to get on
that offensive line. And them Philadelphia fans, who's still gonna
be high on the hog because they just won the
championship and they gonna be ready to go. Those fans
are so it's gonna be loud, it's gonna be rowdy.
But I'll give my prediction for the game a little
bit later, but I can tell you right now it's

(11:15):
gonna be paid.

Speaker 4 (11:17):
It's gonna be paid.

Speaker 3 (11:22):
Addition, yes, prediction, it's gonna be pained.

Speaker 7 (11:30):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (11:30):
Coming up next, we're gonna talk all about who are
winners and losers are going to be and the Coach
of the Year, the Rookie of the Year, the NFL MVP, and.

Speaker 4 (11:41):
So much more.

Speaker 1 (11:43):
Don't forget Eric Henry of Horns two four seven joining
US Texas had an incident off the field that we're
gonna discuss. Also Drew Martin and TJ Ford coming up
today on this audition prediction addition of the Morning Kickoff
Right Here on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred.

Speaker 4 (12:03):
It's a welcome back by people too. The Morning kick Off.

Speaker 3 (12:10):
SPI Radio AM.

Speaker 4 (12:11):
Thirteens Prediction.

Speaker 1 (12:16):
Thursday edition of the Right Here on Sports Radio. I
want to get into this conversation, man, because it is
interesting to me Mark, because you and I we have
differens an opinion on a lot of things. In case
you always in case y'all didn't know, folks, Mark and

(12:37):
I don't always see things eye to eye, and that's okay,
that's the beautiful part about this.

Speaker 3 (12:44):
And we still respect each other.

Speaker 4 (12:46):
Always, always.

Speaker 1 (12:48):
But I'm I am interested to see how you are
going to do your Players of the Year.

Speaker 3 (12:57):
The predictions are here.

Speaker 1 (12:58):
We even got Marcus on this as well, So we're
going to start at the very top, and I want
to know who you have as your MVP this year.

Speaker 2 (13:13):
I think the MVP is going to be a guy
that has always been at the top, and he should
have won it last year, and I think that he's
got it, you know, a little anxiety about it, but
he deserved it last year, and that is Lamar Jackson.

Speaker 1 (13:32):
You are going with Lamar Jackson. You thought he got
short changed last year.

Speaker 3 (13:38):
You know, I did.

Speaker 2 (13:39):
You know I did, and I didn't think that Josh
didn't deserve it, But you look at the statistics and
you look at the previous years, he surpassed what he
did in the years he.

Speaker 3 (13:54):
Won it exactly I agree.

Speaker 2 (13:57):
How do you not give the guy the award? Because
there was new flavor on the block? Absolutely, people wanted
a discussion to give the NFL more.

Speaker 4 (14:09):
Cashe Marcus, who is yours?

Speaker 6 (14:12):
You mentioned Mark, You mentioned new flavor on the block,
And I always believe they when it comes to these awards,
sometimes they look for the new name. And I'm expecting
this quarterback to have a great year this year because
he has weapons.

Speaker 1 (14:25):
Now, Jordan Love, Wow, that is totally out of the box.

Speaker 3 (14:31):
You talking about reaching for stuffing the dusk.

Speaker 6 (14:38):
I just I just see the packers out playing their
expectations this year.

Speaker 3 (14:46):
I like it.

Speaker 4 (14:46):
I like it.

Speaker 1 (14:47):
That's a if you're gonna jump out there, jump out there.
You're not gonna go against You're going against the grain.

Speaker 3 (14:52):
But hey, I'm all for Marcus.

Speaker 2 (14:54):
I'm tell you right now, you better lose some weight
on that on that brand that you want.

Speaker 3 (15:00):
You know you two hit.

Speaker 1 (15:02):
Me, Hey, don't knock you man. This is his thoughts,
his thoughts. Let him have that. My MVP is going
to be a guy that has put up big numbers
every single year. The only problem is his team never
seems to win when they need to win, and I'm
hopeful that they will get off to a fast start

(15:22):
this year.

Speaker 4 (15:23):
It is one Joe Burrow. Joe Burrow has the.

Speaker 1 (15:26):
Weapons, he has the personnel. He's always put up big numbers.
The only thing that he needs to do they have
to win games early instead of trying to play from
behind the entire end of the season to try to
get themselves in there.

Speaker 4 (15:40):
I'm going to give you my defensive Player of the Year.

Speaker 1 (15:43):
He is somebody that I believe has been well deserving
of it. He too has been on a crappy team. Therefore,
he hasn't been able to exceed his expectations. And that
is one Miles Garrett. I believe that Miles Garrett, who
is the squares, I believe that he is going to
take that next step again this year in Cleveland, and

(16:07):
he's not going to be penalized for his bad team.

Speaker 3 (16:11):
Mark Well, I'll tell you what.

Speaker 2 (16:13):
It's hard for me to argue with that, But in
light of the current situation with the Dallas Cowboys getting
rid of one Michael Parsons barn injury, I think that
he will be motivated because of his competitive nature to
do whatever.

Speaker 3 (16:31):
Miles Garrett does.

Speaker 2 (16:33):
Plus one and I will not put it past Miles
Garrett or Michael Parsons that have at least fifteen sacks
a piece. And then we gotta go to are they
gonna be for stumbles and interceptions? And who's gonna be
the guy that's gonna do it. It's it's a toss up,
but I'm gonna go Michael Parsons. Since you went Miles Garrett,

(16:55):
all right.

Speaker 6 (16:56):
Marcus, And since I've been hearing too much about this
team's defense supposedly being great, and I'm I'm so it's
kind of a homer pick.

Speaker 3 (17:05):
I'm going Will Anderson Jr.

Speaker 6 (17:07):
I just have the strangest feeling with everyone's maybe everyone's
typing me up, but with the Texans being ranked at
one of the top defenses this year, I think Will
Anderson Jr.

Speaker 3 (17:18):
Is gonna get a whole lot of sacks.

Speaker 1 (17:20):
All right, Marcus, who is your offensive player of the Year.

Speaker 3 (17:25):
I'm picking them as m v P. I'm picking them
as offensive player to your Jordan Love? Oh my goodness it, dude?
Is it love with Jordan Love? Okay, you'll see why
I got you? I got love with another quarter back?
Who you like?

Speaker 7 (17:41):
Fine?

Speaker 3 (17:43):
Who you got? Who you got? Oh my god, man,
I think that.

Speaker 2 (17:49):
Anytime you don't get the MVP, you have to go
with the guy that had the best statistics as a
wide receiver or the best statistics as.

Speaker 3 (17:58):
A running back in that same Barker, Okay, well, I.

Speaker 1 (18:04):
Believe in that pick because sat Quan's on my team,
so it's all good. And I'm not happy about that
pick for me because I had to pick him and
he was early. So I'm gonna go my But my
player is one that you won't give a lot of
love to, so I'm gonna make sure that he gets
his love, and that is Bjeon Robinson. B John Robinson

(18:27):
is my offensive player of the Year. I believe that
they are going to use him properly to impress you,
to make sure that you realize the talent that this
young man has. So I am rolling with my guy,
Jon Robinson.

Speaker 2 (18:46):
I know when somebody's trying to stick it to me
and I can't feel it. Just like listen, Mark, you
I was wrong, but not side with b Jon. I'm
gonna throw me your.

Speaker 6 (18:57):
Favorite all season all and it's a speech I like
to think Mark.

Speaker 3 (19:01):
Is about me exactly.

Speaker 1 (19:04):
It's gonna be important for that Offensive Rookie of the Year,
I'm going with the obvious, somebody who has not been
talked about enough this offseason. He has been the quietest
number one pick overall. I'm going with cam Ward. His
competitive nature is just out of this world. So he

(19:24):
is my Offensive Rookie of the Year.

Speaker 2 (19:27):
Mark Henry Wow, I mean, see, that's why you get
to go first. Hey, I mean I wrote this down,
so we've you can't out here, guess.

Speaker 3 (19:40):
I wrote it down.

Speaker 2 (19:41):
So well, if you're gonna go with cam Ward, which
I like Hamward cam Ward too, I'm gonna go with
asking Juty. I think that he's gonna rush for at
least a thousand yards and he'll have at least seven
to eight touchdown all right, Marcus cinema.

Speaker 6 (20:00):
Reason why I'm giving Jordan Love all these awards because
I think he has a receiver that can go downfield
and make big plays.

Speaker 3 (20:09):
Matthew Gold, I like it. I like it.

Speaker 7 (20:13):
That's the one.

Speaker 2 (20:14):
That's the one thing you said, Marcus that made me go, Okay.

Speaker 4 (20:19):
He got some player. He got some player.

Speaker 3 (20:21):
Mark.

Speaker 7 (20:21):
You know what.

Speaker 2 (20:22):
They have not had a number one wide receiver since
since Sharp yep.

Speaker 1 (20:30):
So, Mark, who is your defensive Rookie of the Year.

Speaker 2 (20:37):
That that's a lot easier than the offense. And I mean,
Abu Carter that that dude is a monster. I think
that he'll he'll be the guy that we we talked
about as like an All Pro caliber player, Like he's
one of those Michael Parsons type guys.

Speaker 3 (20:58):
He can he can have for team sacks.

Speaker 7 (21:00):
Y'all.

Speaker 4 (21:01):
I like it. I like it. Stay with it, Marcus.

Speaker 6 (21:05):
I'm going with Johnny Campbell, who linebacker for the Eagles,
who linebacker for the Eagles.

Speaker 3 (21:14):
I just think because he's.

Speaker 6 (21:16):
Not gonna be the guy that the attention is on,
he's gonna wrap up a whole lot of tackles.

Speaker 2 (21:20):
Okay, Jehid Campbell is an unbelievable player, But I think
that that Eagles defense is so got so many good
players on it that they're gonna spread the well. It's
like they're gonna eliminate each other. They're gonna feed on
each other's stats.

Speaker 1 (21:39):
My defensive player of the Year rookie, excuse me, rookie
rookie defensive Player of the Year is going to be
I'm going to atl Chardy James Pierce Junior out of Tennessee.
He's gonna be coming off the edge and I think
he is going to shock a lot of people. He's

(22:00):
got so much upside. So I'm going with James Pierce Junior.
We got two picks left. Who is your comeback player
of the year. We'll go with Marcus first.

Speaker 3 (22:14):
Comeback player of the Year, Christan McCaffrey.

Speaker 1 (22:18):
Ah, okay, Christian McCaffrey. He had to go through some
issues last year, So you got CMC.

Speaker 4 (22:28):
I got you Mark Henry.

Speaker 2 (22:32):
I think this is gonna be unanimous. If it's not,
then something's wrong with all of us. Christian McCaffrey is
one of the top five or six players in the
entire NFL and missing last season like he did. You
saw when he did come back, he looked like Superman again.

Speaker 3 (22:54):
Yep. So I'm gonna go Christian McCaffrey as well.

Speaker 1 (22:57):
Well, I guess things ain't right because I'm not doing that.
I'm not following the crowd. I'm not following the crowd.
I'm gonna be my own man. And I got this
this little uh. I got this. I got this little
doll at my house that it just sits up there
and every time I do a show.

Speaker 4 (23:16):
I'm looking at him.

Speaker 1 (23:18):
My comeback player of the Year is Dakota Dak Prescott.
He is my comeback player of the year and he
is going to start his campaign Tonoy against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Dak Prescott my comeback player of the year. What you
got to say now?

Speaker 2 (23:38):
Mark, you notice that I'm just not my mom always
telling me you don't have nothing good. But you know,
being a radio host, I gotta say something, Harge.

Speaker 3 (23:50):
I believe dak is gonna have a good season.

Speaker 4 (23:52):
Thank you. That's all I need to hear.

Speaker 3 (23:54):
That's good.

Speaker 1 (23:54):
No no, no, no, no.

Speaker 4 (23:55):
No, no, no, no no. But here we go.

Speaker 1 (23:59):
Coach of the Year, I'm going with Coach other year,
Jim Harball. The NFC, I mean, the AFC West is
kind of open. It's wide open right now because everybody's
looking at Kansas City is not the best team anymore,
so there's been some changes. I'm going with Harball that
he finally gets it figured out.

Speaker 4 (24:17):
Uh in Los Angeles for the Chargers.

Speaker 2 (24:20):
Mark, you know what, man, I think that the world
has been waiting on what's gonna happen with the New
England Patriots.

Speaker 3 (24:30):
They finally got their coach. He is balanced styled.

Speaker 2 (24:34):
He's got all the he's got good running backs, good
wide receiver, now good quarterback, and the defense has got
some nasty players on it.

Speaker 3 (24:43):
And he went in, he went.

Speaker 2 (24:44):
In the offseason and got guys that fit his scheme
more than anything.

Speaker 3 (24:50):
They fit what he wants to do. So, Mike Babel,
who you got, Marcus? I'm going Matt Lafleur.

Speaker 1 (24:57):
That boy loves they ain't he got the You must
be a closet packer.

Speaker 7 (25:01):
Fer.

Speaker 6 (25:02):
I just see a big year, yes, yeah, I see
a big year for that team.

Speaker 1 (25:07):
Well, the big year starts tonight as the Cowboys will
be taking on the Philadelphia Eagles seven twenty on NBC. Well,
right right now, we're gonna go to our guy, Eric
Henry of Horns two four seven as he breaks down
all things on the forty acres coming up next right
here on the morning kickoff on Sports Radio and thirteen
hundred the Zone.

Speaker 4 (25:28):
We're getting closer and closer to.

Speaker 1 (25:30):
Game day, and that's why we always talk to our guy,
Eric Henry of Horns two four seven. You can make
sure you follow him at Eric c Henry Underscore and
of course follow all of his work at Horns to
four seven, Eric, we're getting closer to the game day,
but there were some news that was broken yesterday that

(25:53):
was not appealing to the Texas fan base.

Speaker 8 (25:58):
Yeah, morning, appreciate y'all have me on as always. What
the news that you are alluding to is the news
of Red Jo freshman cornerback Wardale Mack, who was arrested
early Wednesday morning. You shouldn't say under suspicion was charged.
We're driving while intoxicated. Don't have much more in terms
of details from that, really quick, I will read the

(26:19):
statement here I can pull up really quick that we
got from the University of Texas and Steve Sarkejian. The
statement here is we are aware of the situation Wardale Mac.
Will continue to monitor legal process and the situation will
be handled internally at the appropriate time. Just you know, overall,
tough situation for the young man. Will see what happens
with his future. Of course, Wardeale Mac was someone Parj

(26:41):
and Mark who was in the running in preseason camp
to get time at the star position. Listen, there's never
a good time for this, right so it's always awkward
when you phrase it this way, but it couldn't come
at a worse time for Wardale Mac because these next
three games we're gonna be games at Wardale Mac would
be on the field, right Steve Starkeychen talked about it

(27:02):
on Monday. A lot of these guys who did not
play on Saturday against Ohio State, younger guys, guys looking
to establish themselves, would have seen time over the next
three weeks provided Longmore's take care of business in the
manner that you expect them to.

Speaker 3 (27:15):
So tough situation ward.

Speaker 4 (27:17):
Back, Yeah, it's not a good look.

Speaker 1 (27:18):
And this is something that Texas has pretty much for
the most part, avoided a lot.

Speaker 4 (27:23):
Of these situations.

Speaker 1 (27:25):
Obviously with the offensive lineman earlier in the summer, he
had that same situation, but eventually things kind of worked out.

Speaker 4 (27:33):
So we'll see what happens next.

Speaker 1 (27:36):
But let's get back to the football, because obviously a
lot of folks are looking at this arch Manning performance
and how they felt like it was underwhelming, but there.

Speaker 4 (27:46):
Were some bright spots.

Speaker 1 (27:48):
You have scouts coming out and saying I expected to
see more, but the hype was too much and there's
just so much going on. But he came in and
spoke to the media on Monday, So what was your
biggest takeaway from what coach sark said and what arch
Manning was able to say.

Speaker 8 (28:06):
I'll work in reverse order. I mean listen, and I
mean this affectionately. I don't mean this as a knock
on the kid. Arch Manning has mastered the art of
saying nothing right, which is what you want from your
quarterback to be honest with you, right. You know, certainly
his uncles had no issue saying that. I again, that's
not you know, I'm not knocking him, It's that you
didn't hear much outside of you know what you want

(28:27):
to hear, which is, hey I got to play better, right,
and har Jamark to give you kind of something substantive
out of that. When you have a player who gets
all the attention right like arch Manning, you got all
Americans like Anthony Hill and Michael Task.

Speaker 9 (28:43):
And great players who don't get as much attention.

Speaker 8 (28:45):
You probably want your quarterback who is getting a disproportionate
amount of attention to just say, hey, it's all on me, right,
not make it about the team. So that is a
quote unquote positive out of that. To give you something
subsative from Steve Sarkisian, I think he acknowledged what we
all saw. Arch Manning's mechanics were off right, the most
notably the crossing route to Ryan Wingo. The balls behind him.

(29:06):
He's having to reach back to do this. There's a
ball at his knees. The first pass of the game,
marsh Mannings skipped it in the dirt.

Speaker 7 (29:12):
Right.

Speaker 9 (29:12):
He talked about Steve he being Steve Sarkisian, talk.

Speaker 8 (29:15):
About Arch kind of using a side arm delivery, which
isn't his natural way of throwing the football, right, And yes,
in today's football, right, you know you see the Patrick
Mahomes effect is what I'll call it. Right, Guys want
to throw side arm and throw from different angles. That's
all cool, right, But you know Arch Manning's a six
four to sixty five guy. He doesn't unless there's a
mic linebacker or a rusher directly in his face and

(29:36):
needs to alter himself that way, just deliver the football, right.
So I think that's a substantive thing. And guys, that'll
get cleaned up. It would be one thing if you
hadn't seen Arch with proper mechanics in his career, but
you have seen it, right, So that'll get cleaned up.

Speaker 3 (29:50):
And I expected to look better on Sacker.

Speaker 2 (29:53):
Well, I'm not happy with the fact that I've gave
co Stark all of it praise, because he's done so
many wonderful things.

Speaker 3 (30:04):
And you know, I listened to people like Joe.

Speaker 2 (30:07):
Klatt and the elite analysts quarterback analysts, and they all
said that they thought that he would have put a
game plan together that featured Arch, better comebacks, closing slants,
stuff that's comfortable and easy for a quarterback.

Speaker 3 (30:26):
And then you take stabs deep.

Speaker 2 (30:29):
You can't, you know, So, I mean they put it
on him as the game plan. So I would have
liked the scene the game plan feature where Arch would
be make it easy and comfortable for him.

Speaker 1 (30:43):
Yeah, Eric dropped out for a second, but I agree
with you on that front. Mark and some of the
things that needed to be cleaned up. I expect those
things to be cleaned up. What Eric mentioned about the fundamentals,
I have been saying that from day one, there's certain
things as a quarterback you can do, but the most

(31:04):
important things is your fundamental and your base has to
be one that is in a good spot every time
you drop back. You got to make sure that you're
making those strong throws. But the one thing that I
want to give praise to is that defense. That defense
was able to go out there and play at an
elite level. That secondary is going to get a challenged

(31:27):
this week because last season San Jose State, I think
they were second or third in the most attempts through
the air, and so this week I think the secondary
is going to be challenged.

Speaker 4 (31:42):
I also believe that.

Speaker 1 (31:44):
The defensive line and on the edges, I think this
is a game where Colin Simmons will get to the quarterback,
he'll start to have some success. I believe that some
of the defensive front is going to have that opportunity
as well. So this is going to be a fun
football game. Let's not look at it as something that's

(32:04):
going to be a negative situation because everybody keeps saying, well,
I expect Texas to go out there and handle these teams, Yes,
but do you expect to see that at an execution
level for them to handle that team. Those are the
things that I keep looking at and I want to
make sure that we get to that e. I don't

(32:26):
think we got you. We got you? Yeah all right, yeah,
sorry about this. It was just a tech issue that
I apologize real quick. I just want to make one
qui points.

Speaker 8 (32:35):
I know, work against the break that Mark said in
terms of the game plan, I understand you can be
a little bit annoyed with the game plan, but look
at it this way, right, everything you know is Steve
Sarkisian if he felt comfortable running that, he would.

Speaker 9 (32:48):
Have put it in the game plan.

Speaker 8 (32:49):
Most notably market harsh a lot of the pre sat motion.

Speaker 3 (32:53):
Yep, you didn't get that right.

Speaker 8 (32:55):
And what did we hear Steve Sarkisian talk about in
during fall camp. Hey, we need to work on our
pre stat motion, not jumping twinning penalties.

Speaker 9 (33:02):
What did you see on Saturday? Four false starts?

Speaker 3 (33:04):
Right? That told me?

Speaker 8 (33:06):
And I'm not just caping up for Steve Sarkeesian. It's
with a young offense and inexperienced offense. He would have
put those things in the game plan if he felt
comfortable runs.

Speaker 9 (33:16):
That's my over my three years from Texas.

Speaker 8 (33:18):
I have to believe that. Now we'll see on Saturday
if from the changes.

Speaker 1 (33:21):
Well, Eric, stay with us because we're going to continue
this conversation because I want some more with that, and
I want to give you an opportunity to follow up
on a couple other things that we were talking about,
So stay with us and we'll bring you back after
the break.

Speaker 4 (33:34):
When we come back, we're.

Speaker 1 (33:36):
Going to continue our conversations with our guy Eric Henry.
Hopefully he's in a better spot. He got his camera
working and hebi right here on the morning kickoff All
Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone coming up. In
the next segment, we'll have Drew Martin, the director of
External Affairs for the University of Texas, and we'll be

(33:56):
talking all things about this weekend. But we're here with
Eric Henry of Hornes two four seven back in effect,
and Erica wanted to finish the conversation because there's a
lot that is going on with this Texas football team
and a lot of questions that are looking to be answered.
But one thing is for certain, that defense played its

(34:16):
behind off and tell us about some of the bright
spots that you guys saw during that ballgame.

Speaker 8 (34:23):
It's funny you mentioned that I'm going to go in
the other direction for a second, right, and it's nothing
against this defense. It's the standard that I personally am
holding this defense to this year. Yes, it played very
well at Ohio State number three team. Now number one
team in the nation against two talented receivers Jeremiah Smith
Carnell Tate and arguably one of the top two to

(34:44):
three Titans of the nation of Max Clear. However, Texas
did enter the game with the nation's longest streak of
forcing a turnover twenty four games.

Speaker 3 (34:52):
That was stacked.

Speaker 9 (34:53):
Texas only had one tackle for loss, no sacks.

Speaker 7 (34:57):
Right.

Speaker 8 (34:57):
Again, it's nothing against this defense. They played great. But
I believe in when I was filling in for you,
you know the week got filled in for you.

Speaker 9 (35:06):
I said, this is the best defense in the nation.

Speaker 8 (35:08):
I think, and I think most Longhorned fans would agree.
When you have a young quarterback and inexperienced offense, you
want to give them additional opportunities to put points on
the board.

Speaker 9 (35:19):
Right, short fields.

Speaker 8 (35:21):
It's hard for an offense to go ten eleven, twelve plays,
seventy seventy five eighty yards and score each time. Force
a couple turnovers, give them a couple short fields.

Speaker 3 (35:30):
Right.

Speaker 8 (35:30):
So again, it's not a critique because the defense played great.
To your point, it was lights out. However, I think
this year, not the next three weeks, but when you
get into SEC play, if the offense is still trying
to find its footing. You're going to need to give
them some short fields. You might need to score a
touchdown or two right to help them out. Not saying
that the difference between winning and losing is going to
be that, but I think for Texas to kind of

(35:53):
operate at full power, this defense has to be better
than great. Maybe that's unfair, but it's the standard that
I believe they can play too.

Speaker 1 (36:00):
I like the fact that you put it as the
standard that you see them needing to play at. But
also coach Sark said the same thing about the turnovers
and being able to flip the field in certain situations.
So that is something to pay attention to. But I
want to before we let you go, I wanted to
ask you about this because coach Sark said something earlier
in the week, not this week, but last week when

(36:23):
he was asked about the identity of his team. He's
still searching for that identity. If you were the head
coach and you had to decide, what's your identity at
this point, what would it be?

Speaker 8 (36:35):
Yeah, keyword being at this point you can revisit this five, six,
seven weeks down the road. At this point this is
a team that's gonna run the football really well, play
good defense. Arch Manning will throw the ball somewhere between
twenty and thirty times a game.

Speaker 9 (36:51):
They're gonna protect the football, and.

Speaker 8 (36:53):
They're gonna You saw Jack bowmist on Saturday, Marge, They're
gonna have really good special.

Speaker 9 (36:58):
Teams and they're gonna win that way.

Speaker 7 (36:59):
Right.

Speaker 8 (37:00):
To be clear, I'm not saying that, oh my gosh,
Texas is gonna winning games twenty one to three. Right,
you can still dominate teams that way. But I think
as this team finds its footing, the early identity of
the twenty twenty five Texas football team is one that
is defense led, defense driven, and then they pound the
football on the ground, which sets the offense up in

(37:21):
good down in distant situations to be able to execute
and put points on the board.

Speaker 3 (37:27):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (37:27):
I'm a firm believer and I believe.

Speaker 1 (37:29):
I think that this team has to work on its
play action to be able to because of the fact
of the effectiveness with the run. But to your point earlier,
he's got to be able to hit those intermediate routes
and those crossing routes because that is a staple in
coach sarks offense. And if he can do that, this
team can be off and running. But to your point,
they got to be able to run the ball well.

Speaker 2 (37:51):
But you laughing at Mark, I'm laughing because both of
y'all led what I believe and I was gonna say,
I believe the children are future.

Speaker 3 (38:01):
And left them lead the way, but you asked.

Speaker 2 (38:05):
But anyway, that's the way my brain works that way, Eric,
this is the thing that I saw that I really
felt like could be something that lingers for the whole season,
and that is arch Manning being pressured to throw the
ball deep and not doing the crossers, not doing the comebacks.

Speaker 3 (38:27):
Not throwing the ball and leaving this man in front.

Speaker 2 (38:29):
So like, I want to see that part of the
offensive game, and I think that'll benefit the running game
as well as having the defense.

Speaker 8 (38:37):
League Mark, I can address that super quick. You want
to know how to solve that problem, Steve. Steve Sarkisian
can build a game plan where he essentially take some
of those deep shots out. The reason I say that
is look at Archer's first start against Louisiana Monroe last year,
right when they builting all those deep shots. He went
fifteen to twenty nine, Steve Sarkisan said post game, I

(38:57):
was kicking myself and out building more easy complete next week.
You took some of those deep shots out of the
game plan, not saying you didn't push the ball downfield
at all, right if it's there, but you built the
game plan around some of the short and intermediate stuff
that Quinn you were did really well. Arch goes twenty
six to thirty one. Right, that's the way to solve
that issue right there, exactly.

Speaker 1 (39:16):
Okay, there he is, Eric Henry of Horns two four seven.
Thanks for sticking around, younger man and clarifying some things
for us. I appreciate your time, brother, and we'll see
you this weekend.

Speaker 8 (39:27):
Anytime, harts real quick? Can I get some of them
ice cube tickets? You had me reading ads for ghosts
you know, a couple weeks ago.

Speaker 3 (39:32):
Back I heard it hurt you don't learn about it.
I've talked to the family.

Speaker 1 (39:40):
Appreciate it, Bart already alrighty, he's doing ghost tickets.

Speaker 3 (39:44):
Coming up next, we'll be talking to our.

Speaker 1 (39:47):
Guy Drew Martin from the University of Texas telling you
everything you need to know about this weekend and how
much fun you're going to have on Bebo Boulevard right
here on the morning kickoff on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred.

Speaker 4 (39:59):
That's all, Welcome back to.

Speaker 1 (40:02):
Your home for Texas football AM thirteen hundred the Zone.
We are a few days away from Texas and San
Jose State kicking it off at eleven am. But right
now we are joined by the executive Senior Associate Athletic
Director and the man that is in charge of external

(40:22):
affairs and the man that brings you all the fun
on Bevo Boulevard.

Speaker 3 (40:27):
He is Drew Martin.

Speaker 4 (40:29):
Good morning, Drew, How you doing, buddy?

Speaker 7 (40:31):
Good morning guys.

Speaker 3 (40:32):
How are y'all?

Speaker 4 (40:33):
I'm excited to be here with you.

Speaker 10 (40:34):
I'm actually in DKR right now watching Texas here in
Palm warm.

Speaker 11 (40:39):
Up for game day.

Speaker 10 (40:40):
They're running through the pregame exercises right now, Texas fights
playing through the speakers. I am fired up for eleven
am on Saturday.

Speaker 1 (40:49):
You and everybody else in this town. Obviously, everybody's trying
to regroup, get refocused, and what better way to get
back on the right side of things than playing at
home this weekend. But what we want to know, is
there anything new that is going on on Bevo Boulevard.

Speaker 10 (41:09):
All the new stuff is going to be really really exciting.
I will tell you this, what's really new and really
important for all the listeners, all the people that have
tickets to the game on Saturday, what's really brand new
is this I thirty five construction right next.

Speaker 4 (41:22):
To the stadium.

Speaker 10 (41:23):
And so when you're coming to the game, just do
yourself a huge favor. Go to Texas longhorse dot com
slash parking. We have every lot, every map, the Ingress Route,
the Egress route, where the ADA shuttle picks up and
drops off, where rideshare picks up and drops off, where
cat Metro is.

Speaker 4 (41:41):
Going to pick up and drop off.

Speaker 10 (41:42):
You need to check out Texas longhorse dot com slash
parking because if.

Speaker 11 (41:46):
You can't get to the game, I can't have a.

Speaker 4 (41:48):
Whole lot of fun with you on Saturday.

Speaker 1 (41:49):
I love the fact that you brought that up because
you and I had a conversation about the construction. And
for people that are who haven't been back into Austin
since football season, you've also done something extra for them
to let them know where they're supposed to be.

Speaker 3 (42:06):
Correct.

Speaker 10 (42:07):
Absolutely everybody that has that parking pass has received a
customized map showing them exactly how they're going to get
to that parking lot and then postgame how they're going
to get away from that parking lot. Because while we
love our friends at tex dot and we think this
I thirty five, you know project is going to be
fantastic for the city of Austin, for the University of
Texas at Austin, we know for a couple of years

(42:28):
they're going to be taken away and putting in a
new on and off ramps on that I thirty five corridor.
So we want to make sure that all of our
fans are equipped and ready with all the right information
to get to the game and then get home after
the game as quickly as possible.

Speaker 7 (42:42):
Drew.

Speaker 2 (42:43):
We know that now that the I thirty five corridor
is going to be a two almost three year process.
What about the long harned stadium improvements and we saw
construction We did a photo shoot out there. How soon
to all of the things that DKR being finished.

Speaker 10 (43:04):
For certain, everything that we're doing right now at DKR,
which is converting the press box right there on the
fifty yard line, we're adding eight new what we're calling
Belmont Legends suites right there between the thirties. It's gonna
be fantastic for those fans. The press, we're moving down
to brand new press box facilities on the south end
zone left and right of our new end zone structure

(43:25):
down there. All of that's going to be ready for
the next season. So there will be some construction. It
won't be happening on game day, but you'll definitely see
progress throughout the season on that new suite area and
the new press facilities in the South end zone.

Speaker 4 (43:40):
So don't be.

Speaker 10 (43:41):
Surprised when you see kind of some areas that used
to have some things in it that are under construction
for this season, but next year we'll have all of
that open and ready to go.

Speaker 4 (43:52):
We're talking to j Martin.

Speaker 1 (43:54):
He is in charge of the external affairs at the
University of Texas. He's preparing everybody for this big weekend
on the forty acres As Texas will be taking on
San Jose State eleven AM kicks, so that means that
we will be on Bevo Boulevard at hook them hangout
starting at a excuse me at eight am. Kegs and eggs, AM,

(44:18):
kegs and eggs. Let's get this part of the Rush game.
We gotta love it.

Speaker 10 (44:22):
Speaking, we have we have mimosas, We've got Happy Hour pricing,
we had all kinds of things going on, and.

Speaker 11 (44:26):
Definitely you got to know that.

Speaker 10 (44:28):
Lots open at six am. All of our festivities Bevo
Boulevard presented by HGV, Smoky Midway presented by Connecta Sausage,
our new sponsor, and Hollister are presenting Longhorn City Limits
this year. Big Berths is bizarre, hook them hang out.
All of that is going to open at eight am.
The big fella himself, Bevo, is going to be coming
down his boulevard at eight am for his parade. Sark

(44:50):
and the boys are going to get there at nine am,
coming down the stampede down Bevo Boulevard and the Longhorn
Band can't wait to hear them in all their full
glory on Saturday morning. They're going to be coming in
one hour before game time, so that's ten am. So
those are the three parades that you're definitely gonna want
to be there for.

Speaker 4 (45:06):
Man, you just that off like it was amazing.

Speaker 3 (45:10):
I mean, just Drew, You've done so much for me
and heart.

Speaker 2 (45:18):
I told you we had conversations about getting you to
the Caribbean. I'm in Barbados right now, and I would
really really like to have you here. I would really
like to have you somewhere in the Caribbean after this
season is over. Me and you and heart now have
to sit down and have this conversation again and bring
our families down here so y'all can see how we
do things.

Speaker 11 (45:39):
Let's do it.

Speaker 10 (45:39):
I'm all sorred up for that. Let's let's get a
lot of wins under our belt and celebrate down with you.

Speaker 3 (45:45):
No doubt.

Speaker 10 (45:45):
We come to celebrate that national championship, no doubt.

Speaker 3 (45:50):
So Drew.

Speaker 1 (45:50):
Before we let you go, man, I wanted to ask
you to you. You've debuted some new food, some new spaces,
happy pricing, got a chance to go and have some
lunch at all these different places that you guys are
partnered with. Talk about some of those things that are
going on as well.

Speaker 10 (46:12):
Absolutely, we've got and number one, first and foremost, our
happy hour pricing and our fan friendly pricing are back
again this season. We want to make sure this is
affordable for all of our Longhorn Nation, our families to
come out and enjoy a football, full football Saturday without
breaking the bank, so we're gonna have happy hour pricing
on our food and beverage outside the stadium before kickoff.

(46:32):
We've got fan friendly pricing all game our partner at
eighteen eighty three. For our premium seat holders, they've brought
in a celebrity chef program where there's going to be
celebrity chefs cooking and preparing their own food game to
game for those premium areas. But it's not just for
the premium folks. We've added gigantic turkey legs. We've added

(46:53):
what they're calling like an Asian fusion, kind of a
Korean style hotdog.

Speaker 3 (46:57):
You and I ate one of those the other night
and it.

Speaker 10 (46:58):
Was fantastic, So we're really upping the game for the fans.
There is no fan friendlier place in the country and
football than at Daryl K. Royal Texas Mortial Stadium at
Texas Longhorns.

Speaker 3 (47:11):
It is too early for y'all to be talking food
like this in front of early What time is it
down there?

Speaker 2 (47:22):
Oh man, I mean I'm an hour right here of y'all,
but still it's still too early.

Speaker 11 (47:28):
Hey, you're one hour closer to lunchtime.

Speaker 3 (47:30):
Than we are.

Speaker 4 (47:31):
My friend.

Speaker 3 (47:35):
Big dog's got to eat. Let's go, Drew.

Speaker 4 (47:39):
You told everybody where to go.

Speaker 1 (47:40):
You made assure that everybody goes to Texas Lunghorns dot
com backslash Parking correct.

Speaker 10 (47:48):
Correct, and also for all the other activities that that
that website is super important for fans coming to the game,
for everything about all the festivities.

Speaker 11 (47:58):
To remember all that stuff outside Bevo.

Speaker 10 (48:00):
Boulevard, Longhorn City Limits. We have y'all out Boy Austin's
cover band. We have Corey Morrow headlining post game at
Long hornch Cita Limits, Smoking Midway, Birth of Bizarre.

I'm here in the weather. It's supposed to drop down
into the eighties for a high now, which is welcome
news for me.

Speaker 11 (48:19):
So come out, come.

Speaker 4 (48:21):
Enjoy all the festivities.

Speaker 10 (48:22):
Come really show your burn orange pride, your Texas Longhorns pride,
and have a great game day.

Speaker 4 (48:27):
With us on the forty acres.

Speaker 1 (48:29):
Drew, as always, man, we can't thank you enough for
what you and your staff y'all have done an unbelievable
job of creating the experience for every single person that
comes to the ballgame and you, and I've talked to
the Round Rock Express a lot.

Speaker 4 (48:46):
I talk to your boss, Chris.

Speaker 1 (48:49):
Del Conti, And the one thing that you guys always
talk about is making the experience special for everybody that
comes there, because you can't control what happens on the field,
but you can definitely help make everything away from the
field special.

Speaker 10 (49:05):
That's one thousand percent true, and that's exactly what we
aim for. Is I wish that I could score point
kickfield goals, so touchdown passes. I'm a little old pass
my prime for that. But we can absolutely make sure
that our fans are our dear Longhorn Nation has the
best possible game day outside of the game itself, and
so that's why we do this.

Speaker 4 (49:25):
The fans are at.

Speaker 11 (49:25):
The center of every decision we made.

Speaker 7 (49:27):
Well.

Speaker 1 (49:27):
I appreciate you, and as always, we'll see you this
weekend and hopefully we're enjoying another victory. And of course
you got fallout boy or y'all out boy, excuse me
and Corey Mobile Corey Morrow on the LBJ long pregame
and postgame.

Speaker 4 (49:46):
Appreciate you.

Speaker 11 (49:47):
Drew, thanks guys, hook.

Speaker 4 (49:49):
Him there he goes.

Speaker 1 (49:50):
Drew Martin keeps doing unbelievable work. Him and his crew
have been outstanding for so long and every time you
get to the ballpark, you understand it is one hell
heck of a.

Speaker 4 (50:04):
Atmosphere every single time.

Speaker 7 (50:05):
Man.

Speaker 2 (50:07):
Yeah, I'm looking forward to getting down there. We always
had our favorite food haunts and we got to know people.

Speaker 3 (50:15):
It's gonna be fun to seeing everybody again.

Speaker 1 (50:17):
Yeah, it's back to football season, back at the forty Acres.
But right now we're gonna talk a little hoop action
with the lifetime Longhorn and the legend TJ. Ford joins
us next right here on the Morning Kickoff on Sports
Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone.

Speaker 3 (50:35):
Mike, Welcome back to.

Speaker 4 (50:38):
The Morning Kickoff.

Speaker 1 (50:39):
Right here on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone.
We have this special segment called Legends of the Locker
Room where we go back and find some of those
great legends that are doing great things. And speaking of
doing great things, he is having a bowling event here
in Austin, Texas and by saying he he is one

(51:00):
of the best players and he's got his number retired
in the rafters here at the University of Texas.

Speaker 4 (51:06):
He is one TJ.

Speaker 3 (51:08):
For Good Morning, TJ.

Speaker 12 (51:09):
How you doing, brother, Good morning man, how you guys
doing this morning?

Speaker 3 (51:14):
We're doing great, awesome. Good to hear your boys.

Speaker 7 (51:17):
Oh man, good to hear you guys. Man.

Speaker 12 (51:19):
I'm glad you got an amazing job early in the morning. Man,
give people some good stuff to hear on the way
working and waking up.

Speaker 4 (51:26):
That's right.

Speaker 1 (51:26):
We try to keep them live and ready to go.

Speaker 4 (51:28):
And you got.

Speaker 1 (51:29):
Something that you're doing this weekend that is going to
help raise some doing some fundraising here in Austin, Texas.
So tell everybody what you got going on.

Speaker 7 (51:41):
Yeah, man, it's Friday. We owns in the Bowl event,
Strike to Unite.

Speaker 12 (51:44):
And pretty much the whole agenda for this weekend is
to you know, bring some former players back, get.

Speaker 7 (51:51):
Us together, create this this brotherhood.

Speaker 12 (51:53):
In this bond, continue to keep our history going for
guys who've done a lot of great things and had
a great time on the basketball court here at the
University of Texas. So trying to unite everybody together. You know,
it's the first home football game, a lot of people
come to town. So we also would like to kind
of you know, kick things off. Our basketball season, has
an introduction to each other again and you know, also

(52:16):
give opportunity for guys to engage and meet our new coach,
Sean Miller.

Speaker 1 (52:22):
Speaking of the TJ that was one of the questions
that I wanted to ask, is you know, Sean Miller
comes in a lot of changes happened over at the university.
But Sean Miller, with his record, with his mindset and
his ability to recruit, what are some of the things
that you've noticed since you've been here, Because I've seen
he's brought you in multiple times to be around the team.

Speaker 12 (52:45):
And Coach Miller is a guy who's an established coach
who has a history of winning, has been at an
elite program before, to a program to you know, high
measures when you look at him coming in and you
look at with raised to the table. You know us
playing him a few times in a tournament as well,
but to have him and his staff bringing this energy,

(53:09):
everyone's kind of excited.

Speaker 7 (53:11):
You know.

Speaker 12 (53:11):
Obviously it's you know, it's football season and the attention
that they get. But for us in our basketball program,
we're trying to do everything in our power to support him,
just like we would do any other coach. And I
think everyone will see the excitement as we get closer
to the basketball season, t J.

Speaker 2 (53:30):
I'm looking at the flyer and I see Roy l
Ivy on there, and I see DJ Augustine. Who's the
better bowler out of you three? Because I don't if
I come in there, I want to be on the
best team.

Speaker 12 (53:45):
I don't know, Man, I haven't seen those guys bowl.
You know, I'm kind of competitive. I'm not the greatest bowler,
but I know I'm not last.

Speaker 7 (53:54):
I'm not sure who's first. But I'm gonna say, how does.

Speaker 3 (54:00):
Your bowling game?

Speaker 2 (54:01):
Mark?

Speaker 7 (54:02):
Man?

Speaker 4 (54:02):
Come on, man, you know better than that.

Speaker 1 (54:04):
You know I come with it every single time, So
don't don't even come at me like that. But TJ,
I mean, you've been putting in a lot.

Speaker 4 (54:10):
Of work, man.

Speaker 1 (54:11):
You got a lot that you do with your foundation.
You do a lot with the kids in Houston and
all over the place. How is that hauls all that
going right now? And what's next for TJ?

Speaker 7 (54:25):
For?

Speaker 12 (54:27):
You know, I always been into the mentorship of the
youth and being able to kind of give back and
use your voice, not only your voice, man, just being present.
And I think that's what I've kind of been known for,
you know, since I retired from the game.

Speaker 7 (54:39):
Of basketball.

Speaker 12 (54:39):
It is just being president and being available to you know,
kids and to parents and kind of showing them away
of what it takes to kind of be successful. And
that success doesn't you know, equate that you have to
be the best basketball player. So I think when you
look at you know, kind of my mission and kind
of what I'm about is just being able to kind
of you know, give kids some type of you know,
vision for themselves, so to give them some type of

(55:01):
hope and some type of encouragement and just knowing that
those habits that they can create and we can help
them create will a lot to be successful long time,
no matter what industry they in, whether it's sports, business,
you know, even you know, getting in the classroom or
some sort. So we just want to be able to
continue to impact the youth. It's been a fun, fun

(55:21):
time for me of being involved, you know, since I retired.
It gives me a lot of uh, it gives.

Speaker 7 (55:27):
Me a great feeling. You know, these kids.

Speaker 12 (55:30):
And I'm around the world, not just here in Houston.
You know, it gives me a you know, they give
me my funk, They give me my energy as well.
Because a lot of people continue to remember the things
that I've done basketball wives, but more importantly just being
around you know through you know, AAU basketball and you know,
being in these events and tournaments.

Speaker 7 (55:50):
So man, something that's a passion of mind of just trying.

Speaker 12 (55:55):
To you know, keep kids on the right track, which
you know, when you in sports, it comes with a
lot a lot of distractions, especially now you know, with
the opportunity that kids have with Nils, it's a different
ball game and it's a different way of living for
these young guys because they're in young women, because they
are able to achieve a career at an earlier age

(56:17):
while they're still trying to figure out, you know, what
they want to be in, like through sports.

Speaker 7 (56:21):
So I enjoy it. You know that kids have these.

Speaker 12 (56:25):
Opportunities and you know, now the interesting and the challenge
for us is to.

Speaker 7 (56:30):
Be able to kind of you know, guide.

Speaker 12 (56:32):
Them through this process that's getting a lot of money
at a young age, what to do with and how
to handle it.

Speaker 7 (56:37):
And I'm not talking about and invest but just you.

Speaker 12 (56:40):
Know, I'm around kids in a way that they're able
to kind of you know, spend it and enjoy it.
So we just want to be able to do a
better job of you know, helping them.

Speaker 7 (56:49):
Through that process and market.

Speaker 12 (56:52):
You know what that's like being able to you know,
be a professional and just imagine, you know, at eighteen
years old being able to make the type of money
that you know professional guys are making in college.

Speaker 3 (57:04):
Yeah, TJ.

Speaker 2 (57:05):
You brought up a great point about the AAU system
in the future of basketball.

Speaker 3 (57:11):
How much will you do.

Speaker 2 (57:13):
You feel like you can help and add to what
coach Miller is doing with all these high level Texas
basketball players. You look on every major team in the
country and they have a Texas player that's starting for
them or coming off the bench for them. Like, when
how can you and Texas Xas and the guys that

(57:35):
are on in this bowling tournament get these kids to
come to University of Texas at other big time Texas schools.

Speaker 7 (57:44):
Well, I think we want to be in a show.

Speaker 12 (57:47):
Kids the opportunities that you have at the University of
Texas and ways since you could take advantage of it.
I think that's the next source for us being able
to help you know, Texas basketball and Coach Hun Millers
is being able to show that we are have a
lot of good examples of guys that you know, obviously
made it to the NBA did pretty well for themselves,
but you also have to understand that, you know, it's

(58:07):
a lot of guys that did not make it to
the NBA that is doing very very successful in a
business world just have a career. So we want to
be able to show this different magnitude of different athletes
and are having success. You know, obviously you always talk
about the TZ for us, Devin Durantson, you know, Roy Ivy,
DJ Augustines and House Turners, but at the end of
the day, you have guys like a Chris Klagg, Rage Freedman,

(58:29):
you have Travis Mays, you have guys who all these
different areas that have had an impact on us of
you know, just being good sound men, and we want
to be able to establish that those guys are still
doing well and it's not just a few guys that's
in the NBA. So collectively, we want to be able
to show the impact and ways that we can help
them as a alumni and also you know, being there

(58:50):
to trying to you know, God, these guys and what
it would take off the court to be successful.

Speaker 4 (58:55):
Awesome, that is, that is some great stuff.

Speaker 1 (58:57):
We're talking to lifetime Longhorn and legend TJ.

Speaker 4 (59:00):
Ford.

Speaker 1 (59:01):
He is giving back to the community. He's doing so much.
And he's also got a bowling event that will be
taking place this Friday at the main event from seven
to ten up in North Austin.

Speaker 4 (59:14):
And TJ.

Speaker 1 (59:15):
You are also doing some commentaking. You're doing some play
by play, not play by play, but some analysts work.

Speaker 4 (59:21):
How you liking that.

Speaker 12 (59:22):
Man, Man, I'm enjoying it, you know, obviously, you know,
being connected to the game, being connected to the NBA
and being part of that family and that fraternity has
always been amazing to me and being able to you know,
still support me in many ways, be connected to the game.
You know, obviously I'll retire my last season playing with

(59:44):
the Spurs. That history of when I was in college
as well as having that connection, so being a part
of that family, being connected to the basketball game and
being able to analyze and talk about it and at
times be able to do something, you know, broadcasting. It
allows me to kind of share my thoughts and share
my wisdom of hot see the game.

Speaker 7 (01:00:00):
That's been really really fun.

Speaker 12 (01:00:02):
Obviously, when we had the long run network, I was
able to get a lot of experience early on when
I retired and down, you know, being able to kind
of be still connected to the game some of the
years later. Man, it's fun, and I hope to continue
to get better at it.

Speaker 7 (01:00:19):
You know.

Speaker 12 (01:00:19):
Obviously we here in Austin, Texas, all the way down
out thirty five and San Antonio. I hope everybody kind
of enjoyed that Spurs vibe. Obviously, they are the future
with the amount of talent that they have.

Speaker 7 (01:00:31):
So I'm kind of blessed.

Speaker 12 (01:00:32):
To be able to kind of look at these young
guys and know that they up and coom a team
that and then maybe another you know, two or three years,
we'll be talking about This team is potentially as a
team that has championship mascelerations and have a real chance
to do that. So to be very very close to
it and watch it every day and get to see
this new generation workout, and.

Speaker 7 (01:00:52):
Man, it's fun. I really really really enjoyed.

Speaker 12 (01:00:55):
And I also work on some things that allow me
to kind of talk about Texas basketball.

Speaker 7 (01:01:00):
We're working on a few things to try.

Speaker 12 (01:01:02):
To figure out to get me to do you know,
some of that, you know, based on our basketball team
as well.

Speaker 2 (01:01:09):
TJ.

Speaker 3 (01:01:10):
You mentioned San Antonio.

Speaker 2 (01:01:12):
We have a mutual friend Vince who down there is
is Vince gonna be a part of the tournament.

Speaker 12 (01:01:18):
Yes, you know Vince will uh, we'll be in the building.
You know, Vince is a guy that's a dial on Longhorn.
He's been advocated about continue to build that brand for
Texas guys off the court. Obviously he did the TVT
thing that gives players opportunity to have a chance to
win a million bucks. He's been a great guy that

(01:01:40):
continues to try to support these guys. He's he's definitely
connected to, you know, players that are still playing basketball.
So he's been like Zion for me, under stay connected
to some guys that I'm I'm not you know, personally
tied to.

Speaker 7 (01:01:56):
In that matter. So he's been a huge help.

Speaker 12 (01:01:59):
Uh, huge guy that's just a die hard Longhorn and
an awesome guy. So, you know, venture somebody that you
know when you look at managers, you look at these
guys that come to Texas. He also has a good
you know and example. He also is a good person
to be able to bounce things off because you know,
he's in the food industry.

Speaker 7 (01:02:18):
With his family.

Speaker 12 (01:02:19):
Also now as a financial advisor, for a company. So
we have a lot of good guys that are doing
amazing things that we want to be able to share
knowledge for the next generation because it's more than just
you know, basketball on the sport. We all know that
it will in one day and just want to be
able to kind of show everybody the amount of support,

(01:02:40):
the amount of brilliant stat is coming from our sports
program and we don't really get enough knowledge in you know,
most people don't really talk about those things, and we
just want to acknowledge that, you know, our athletic program
at the University of Texas is just as powerful as
the business program.

Speaker 1 (01:02:58):
At the University of Texas, and that is something that
is much needed, especially in this day and age.

Speaker 3 (01:03:05):
TJ.

Speaker 1 (01:03:06):
As always, thank you, I'll continue to spread the word.
I'll post your flyer here in just a little bit
to let people know where this event is going to
be and it's for the TJ.

Speaker 4 (01:03:17):
Ford Foundation as well.

Speaker 1 (01:03:20):
And make sure y'all get over to the University of
Texas this weekend, TJ because they bringing in Michael Gooseby,
i mean Austin Goozby, one of the best players in
the country and we need y'all to go over there
and make sure that young man comes to the University
of Texas.

Speaker 7 (01:03:36):
Maybe you know, we want to keep him home.

Speaker 12 (01:03:37):
Any kids and as an opportunity, you know, to help
us get back to the Promised Land. We got to
do everything we can and make these kids understand this
is the place to be. So we know how important
the first home game is for every university, and so
this is a big weekend where everybody's in town. We
know that these kids should have an amazing, amazing time

(01:03:59):
and it's a lot of good entertainment for.

Speaker 7 (01:04:02):
These young kids. This leaking as well, so.

Speaker 12 (01:04:04):
You know, hopefully this is the best visit these two kids.

Speaker 7 (01:04:06):
What every.

Speaker 12 (01:04:09):
We bring it out all, we bring it out everything
to get these guys to understand.

Speaker 11 (01:04:13):
This place they should be.

Speaker 1 (01:04:14):
All right, my man, appreciate it. There he is TJ Ford,
the Legend. We'll give you more information about TJ and
his event that is going on tomorrow night from seven
to ten at main event.

Speaker 4 (01:04:25):
Make sure you follow us on social media. Thanks TJ.

Speaker 1 (01:04:29):
All right, thanks guys, appreciate it. When we come back.
You know what that means. Got the world's strongest man
giving you a world's strongest take right here on the
morning kickoff on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred.

Speaker 4 (01:04:40):
This is all.

Speaker 1 (01:04:42):
It's been a minute since we've had this, but it's back.
WWE Hall of Famer and the World's Strongest Man, d
Mark Henry brings you his world's strongest take.

Speaker 3 (01:04:54):
Take it away, big guy Art, what's up man? You
know what time it is? What time is it?

Speaker 2 (01:05:01):
It's time for the world's strongest take by the world's
strongest man.

Speaker 3 (01:05:09):
MA guess back then they they didn't know me. Now
I'm hot, they all own men.

Speaker 5 (01:05:17):
This is gonna come across very preaching, and we might
have to pull out the religious music.

Speaker 2 (01:05:24):
But my take today is about my guy, and I
say my guy arch Manning, but it's not really so
much about what arch Manning did. My take is about
the whole circumferencing relationship between a quarterback and a coach,

(01:05:48):
and a quarterback and a coordinator who just happens to
be the head coach. Arch Man in his first game
was in the big house pressure. Regardless of whether we say, oh,
he can handle the pressure, he's he's he's a manning
for Christ's sake, and arch going seventeen or thirty and

(01:06:14):
having a thirty seven percent off target throw percentage was
the lowest percentage in twelve years. Guys, we started from
the bottom. We're only gonna go up from here. So
all of the people that's jumping off the Arch bandwagon,

(01:06:37):
you're gonna find yourself in a lonely place because he.

Speaker 3 (01:06:41):
Is gonna get better.

Speaker 2 (01:06:44):
The main reason I say that is because of his coach.
You think for one second that Steve Sakesian is not
gonna put Arch in a situation where he is gonna
look better, he's gonna have a higher percentage, and that
he's gonna be able to produce to make the team

(01:07:07):
have wins. It's not always gonna be about production. It's
gonna be about teaching Arts how to be the coach
on the field.

Speaker 5 (01:07:17):
If y'all remember Quinn, yours first year was thank you,
Thank you. Queen yours first year was not his best.
In fact, he struggled. But Arch congregation is gonna be better.

(01:07:40):
And I want to go on rigor right now. It's
saying that in these next three to four games, he's.

Speaker 2 (01:07:47):
Gonna get acclimated. Because it takes time. You can't just
go to the mountaintop. You gotta do it in scale
and I think that Coach Sarkisian will bring Young Arch
to the prompt art.

Speaker 3 (01:08:01):
What say you wow?

Speaker 1 (01:08:04):
Uh, He's gonna have to do so because some folks
decided that they wasn't gonna believe in Young Arch.

Speaker 3 (01:08:16):
But you know what I said, preach.

Speaker 1 (01:08:18):
I said, give him time, give him time, give him time,
and he will find he will find that crossing receiver.
I have no doubt that he will hit him in
the flats.

Speaker 3 (01:08:31):
I have no doubt. Yea, he will find a tight end.

Speaker 1 (01:08:35):
But most importantly, my people, he gonna get a first down,
may get full on the first drive.

Speaker 3 (01:08:43):
Yeah, and they gonna get a big play and we
gonna rejoin. Yeah, one more time. Tell him again, can
I get it? Or you know, hook him hug?

Speaker 1 (01:08:55):
You know, can I get a hook him?

Speaker 4 (01:08:59):
Home?

Speaker 2 (01:09:00):
Comes then we gonna be just fine.

Speaker 3 (01:09:04):
Comes Saturday at eleven a m.

Speaker 1 (01:09:07):
But it will start at eight am with our pre
game that kicks off at eight eight m.

Speaker 13 (01:09:14):
With Cam Parker, Mike Hartball.

Speaker 3 (01:09:17):
Harts, and the World's Strongest Man.

Speaker 13 (01:09:19):
Deve Mark Henray, who just brought you his World's Strongest tape, Dawn.
We will be back right after this will send you
to dead Patrick. But first and foremost, we gotta talk
about them cow.

Speaker 1 (01:09:35):
Boys once again right here on Sports Radio AM thirteen
hundred The Zone.

Speaker 4 (01:09:43):
What a great show we had today.

Speaker 1 (01:09:45):
Started off with Eric Henry of Horns two four seven,
followed by our guy Drew Martin, who's in charge of
all the fun at the University of Texas, and followed
it up with the Lifetime on Horne, a legend t
J for Man oh Man. What a great time, and
then we just had some fun with Marx Henry's the

(01:10:08):
World's Strongest Taken. If you missed any parts of the show,
make sure you get over to the podcast page and
you can go back and listen to all the interviews
that we have had throughout the weeks.

Speaker 4 (01:10:18):
So much fun like no other. Make sure you get
out tonight.

Speaker 1 (01:10:22):
I will be at the Armadillo Den off of Manshak
from seven to nine, brought to you by the great
folks over at bud Light and Brown Distributing. Come and
hang out and watch me deal with my tears, for
my fears with my beers the night as the Cowboys
will be taking on the Philadelphia Eagles. But one bright

(01:10:46):
spot in this game, well two bright spots in this
game will be Jaden Blue, running back for the Dallas
Cowboys former Texas Longhorn, and he will be playing against
his former teammate from last year, Andrew mca and Andrew
mccoober was asked about this game and facing the Cowboys.

Speaker 7 (01:11:05):
I need to do so, honestly, being a somewhat new
guy here, the magnitude that your first game could be
against the Cowboys in a game where they're unbailing the
Super Bowl banner has that struck hit.

Speaker 14 (01:11:15):
Yeah, to be honest with you, I mean, it's it's
so real. Okay, you know, being from being from Texas
growing up, you know, everybody know who they were rooting for. Uh,
and then that being my first game against them, So
it's kind of crazy.

Speaker 4 (01:11:30):
Man, It's kind of crazy.

Speaker 14 (01:11:31):
And I was dreamed about being in this situation, Uh,
in this position, and now that I'm here, it's so real.
But I mean, when it's time to know, you know,
I got to put all the emotions everything to the
side and just go out there and do what you
love and what I've been doing my whole lot. So
and I'm excited.

Speaker 4 (01:11:48):
Man, got a lock in, Mark, got a lock in.

Speaker 10 (01:11:51):
Man.

Speaker 3 (01:11:53):
Don't look at the big lights. Just keep your here
down and do your job.

Speaker 7 (01:11:58):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:11:58):
I hope he stays on the side line a lot
tonight so he doesn't, you know, he doesn't have to
witness Ceedee Lamb running past him, because that's what's gonna
happen to night mark eight and a half point dog.

Speaker 4 (01:12:11):
Eight and a half point dog.

Speaker 1 (01:12:12):
Do you think you said you believe that it's gonna
be the over?

Speaker 4 (01:12:15):
You believe that.

Speaker 1 (01:12:16):
He's gonna be are too low for the Dallas Cowboys
in this matchup?

Speaker 3 (01:12:23):
So what did what did they have the line.

Speaker 4 (01:12:25):
At right now? It's a it's on DraftKings.

Speaker 1 (01:12:29):
Uh, Cowboys are seven and a half point dog. The
over under is forty seven and.

Speaker 4 (01:12:36):
A half.

Speaker 3 (01:12:39):
And I'm gonna fresh over there.

Speaker 1 (01:12:41):
I'm refreshing it right now so we can see if
they change and it is not. Well, yep, it sure
did right now went up to eight and a half.

Speaker 2 (01:12:50):
So both teams are gonna score at least uh thirty
points minimum.

Speaker 3 (01:12:56):
This is gonna be. This is gonna be a shootout.

Speaker 2 (01:12:59):
All of you years of defensive struggles with the Cowboys
and the Eagles are over.

Speaker 3 (01:13:05):
Both of these offenses are too prolific.

Speaker 1 (01:13:10):
Wow, Okay, Yeah, I'm looking at these numbers and I'm
trying to figure out which is the best play, but win, lose,
or draw.

Speaker 4 (01:13:20):
I need to know what your pick is going to be.

Speaker 1 (01:13:23):
For tonight's game, Thursday Night Football, Dallas Cowboys taking on
the Philadelphia Eagles seven on NBC and Cowboys eight and
a half point dog. But do you think they lose
and cover? Do you have them winning? What's your thoughts

(01:13:43):
on this game?

Speaker 2 (01:13:44):
I have the Cowboys at thirty one and I have
the Eagles at thirty five.

Speaker 1 (01:13:50):
Okay, so you're taking basically, you're saying the Eagles win,
they do not cover, but you're.

Speaker 3 (01:13:56):
Taking the over the over.

Speaker 1 (01:14:00):
Okay, Marcus, do you have a idea of what you
believe in thirty eight twenty eight Eagles? D Well, I
ain't gonna let this happen. I ain't letting this happen.
I'm going Cowboys.

Speaker 3 (01:14:15):
That's right. I'm looking at it.

Speaker 1 (01:14:17):
You see it, if you're on camera, you see I
come in wearing my clown suit, I mean, my uniform.

Speaker 3 (01:14:23):
For the Cowboys every single week.

Speaker 4 (01:14:26):
I'm gonna be that lone man.

Speaker 1 (01:14:28):
To get out here and say I'm taking the Cowboys
tonight and they win twenty seven to twenty four, and
this is going to be one of those games where
Brandon Aubrey, the best player on our team not named
Dak Prescott, the kicker is gonna be the winning sit

(01:14:49):
right now on that.

Speaker 3 (01:14:51):
Is your hope. Yeah, that's the kicker.

Speaker 1 (01:14:54):
Yeah, at twenty seven twenty four, we're gonna have a
great ball game.

Speaker 3 (01:14:57):
Cowboys coming in.

Speaker 1 (01:14:58):
You told me at the beginning other show, Mark Henry
and check the tape. You said Brian Shottenham, who's shoddy,
hadn't been showing anything the entire time, and right now
is the time for Shody to take some shots down
the field and make things happen. When his new weapon,

(01:15:19):
George Pickens.

Speaker 2 (01:15:20):
You think that it's gonna be Cedee Lamb. You think
that it's gonna be George Pickens is gonna be Ferguson.
Ferguson is gonna have at least one touchdown. If you
have him in fantasy, you better plan because that guy's
gonna be alone in the middle of the field because

(01:15:41):
you're gonna have to play two safeties high and he's
he'll there'll be five five yards before anybody touches him.
And he's elusive for a big guy. So I look
at seeing Ferguson having a really pro bowl.

Speaker 3 (01:15:55):
Type of year.

Speaker 4 (01:15:57):
I think so too.

Speaker 1 (01:15:58):
I definitely have been looking at Jake Ferguson as a
guy that is going to be special. Speaking of that,

you this because fantasy football. Did you get into a
fantasy football league?

Speaker 2 (01:16:37):
I was just about to tell you, guys, for the
first time in eight years fantasy football, I have the
Eagles defense. I have Deebo Samuel as wide receiver, and

(01:17:04):
I have Jalen as my quarterback in one of my leagues.

Speaker 4 (01:17:08):
So, oh my goodness, I have man.

Speaker 2 (01:17:11):
I have a commander's player at wide receiver in one
league of quarterback commanders in another league.

Speaker 3 (01:17:18):
Of Eagles defense.

Speaker 1 (01:17:22):
Well, Joe Change He's changed, folks, the man has changed.

Speaker 4 (01:17:29):

Speaker 4 (01:17:33):

the legend TJ Ford and TJ will be part of
the show this season when basketball season starts. And of
course I want to thank my guy Mark Henry and
Marcus behind the board. Come out to Armadillo Den and

(01:17:58):

Light and thirteen hundredsom and just remember those folks don't
