very good. As the Texas Longhorns get ready to take

(02:17):
on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone starting at
three o'clock with our Longhorns game Day lead you up

and Will Matthews. Craigway the voice of the Texas Longhorns,
and all games can be heard right here on Sports

(02:39):
Little Woodrow's on Palmer and McNeil for coverage starting at
three o'clock. You can come hang out, but Life has
some drink specials and then our guy Cam Parker has
a watch party at Cosmic Cafe. He'll give you all
the details when y'all tune in this afternoon starting at
(03:00):
two o'clock on the Craig Way Show. But the injury
report came out yesterday and it was not a good
look for the Texas Longhorns, which was a little bit
different than what we expected because these injuries we did
not know about. These injuries we had no idea about.
But they give out a weekly report that you have
(03:22):
to start giving out on Wednesday talking about the players
on the injury report, and right now it says that
wide receiver Aaron Butler is out, linebacker Jonathan Cunningham is out,
and center offensive number fifty four Cole Hudson, starting center
(03:44):
is out for Saturday's ball game.
Speaker 3 (03:48):
Questionable.
Speaker 1 (03:49):
Xavier phil Samine safety, He is questionable. Connor Strow, another
offensive lineman, is questionable, and Mared Watson defense of linemen
is questionable.
Speaker 3 (04:03):
CJ. Baxter is still doubtful.
Speaker 1 (04:05):
Now, Mark, we've talked about this offensive line, and we'll
hear from coach sharkon just the moment about the offensive line.
Speaker 3 (04:11):
But there is that's not good when you're.
Speaker 1 (04:15):
Starting center is not going to be available after we
just gave them some praise about the cohesiveness in which
they were playing.
Speaker 2 (04:24):
Yeah, that's the worst part of this report. Yeah, everybody
else has quality people behind them. Linebacker Bo Bornes can
come in and feel at defensive tackle or January it
can come in and feel. They have in pretty much
every position that you named except for center.
Speaker 3 (04:46):
Yep.
Speaker 1 (04:47):
Well, Connor Robertson has done. He's got some good job
and he's got some playing time. And the Westlake former
high school player over there, he's got some ample time.
He's probably one of the most experience it's guys on
the line, if you really go back and think about it,
he's playing quite a bit.
Speaker 3 (05:04):
But we just saw the.
Speaker 1 (05:06):
Progress that was being made when you start to excuse me,
when you start to have cohesiveness on the offensive line.
Speaker 3 (05:15):
So now you.
Speaker 1 (05:16):
Get back in there, I mean, it's not gonna be
a pity party. I'm not saying no. I think it's
gonna be fine. But you got Connor Strow doubtful, and
you got not doubtful, but questionable, and then you have
Cole Hudson out, So it's a little bit different. And
couple that with the fact that Gibson, Jared Gibson the
(05:38):
running back, is now out and will Stone and coach
Shark was asked about both of those guys yesterday on
his weekly teleconference with the SEC.
Speaker 4 (05:49):
They wanted a red shirt and transfer and so who
will take that carry those carries is everybody, And so
you know, whether that's Trey, whether that's Christian, whether that's
games well that's you know, uh, Cedric when he gets back.
So we've got ample bodies. So what we should be
okay in that in that aspect of it all.
Speaker 3 (06:09):
And real quick. Who who do you anticipate? Kick?
Speaker 5 (06:14):
What?
Speaker 3 (06:15):
What carries?
Speaker 1 (06:16):
Well, I mean the last three games we could have
cut playing. Oh yeah it was Will Stone. He was
talking about the kickoffs and Stone being able to leave
as now Bason Mason Shipley will be able to take
the kickoff duties. But to your point, there is a
lot of carries that are still out there. There is
gonna be opportunities for all these other guys. But you know,
(06:37):
at one point Jared Gibson was your leading rusher, so
you know there are some things to say about that
as well.
Speaker 2 (06:44):
That that operative word was was they stopped using him
when Brooks got his rips and then you know you
saw Simon come in and look like Rod Walker and
when and Brian and I mean it was they did
really good as far as the putting his running back
(07:05):
room together.
Speaker 3 (07:06):
You mean Clark not Brooks are Clark.
Speaker 2 (07:09):
Yeah, So like those guys were were we're doing really well.
Coach Stark was right in a sense that goal lines
in the pistol like they really it didn't fit his
offense anyway. He just didn't want to It just didn't
seem like he wanted to run that.
Speaker 3 (07:27):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (07:29):
Well, one of the other things that is out there,
and you'll hear more and more about it. And we've
had these conversations about the five for five and what
that means is because coach the NCAA is posing that
you've got five years to play five years, right, you
get five seasons to play those five years.
Speaker 3 (07:47):
We talked about Diego Pavia.
Speaker 1 (07:49):
But it has to because remember they're trying to not
count those junior college years, they're trying to not count
the military academy years, and so they're trying to find
a way to get these guys five for five and
no more red shirts.
Speaker 3 (08:02):
It's just this is what you have to play at
this time.
Speaker 1 (08:05):
And Coach Sark talked about it when, especially after Gibson
and Stone wanted to preserve their red shirts and go elsewhere.
Speaker 4 (08:13):
I've been an advocate for five or five I've said
it all along. I think it's a terrible position to
put these players in to make these decisions right now.
But there's money involved, there's revenue sharing, there's nil there's
different factors, and I think it's putting agents and family
members and student athletes in a difficult position to make
(08:35):
business decisions in the middle of season. But that's that's
where we're at, and so I'm not really here to
complain about it. That's just the reality of the situation
we're in. And so when a player asked to do that,
I think and for their for their time, and I
wish them the best of luck. I mean, what else,
what else are we supposed to do with at that juncture?
These are the rules that we've put in place, and
so we've got to operate within the parameters of the rules.
Speaker 3 (08:59):
Got to be able to jan some things up and
do things differently.
Speaker 2 (09:02):
So it is isn't that the evolution of sports period,
not just football. Just things are going to evolve and
you have to change with the times. Coach Sark is
the key guy in saying if you don't, if you
don't change, you're gonna be extinct like the dinosaurs. And
that's what we're talking about here, like the evolution of
(09:25):
the game. There was not a business component just three
years ago at all. Well, I mean there were people
that was taking all this, they were getting the bag
under the table. But I'm talking legitimately.
Speaker 3 (09:41):
You're talking about the old five hundred dollars handshake. Yeah,
I'm talking about that.
Speaker 2 (09:45):
But this is you gotta pay taxes, you gotta make
sure that you're in alignment with the university and with
the NCAA like that didn't exist three years ago. So
all this is new and now people are real Okay,
well the rules have changed. Now, the structure of how
we do business has changed, so it's gonna take some
(10:09):
time harder to get this all ironed out. I don't
even see it being resolved this year or next year.
Speaker 1 (10:14):
Well, it's it's a fluid situation. It's always going to
be able to adapt to it. You're gonna have to
change because every year there's something new. But another part
of this is I wanted to hear Coach Sark's thoughts
on the eighty five scholarship increase.
Speaker 3 (10:29):
I think we've discussed it, you know, I don't.
Speaker 4 (10:32):
I don't know if we've gotten to a final decision
on that, but I think over time it could be
it could become an issue to where, you know, as
as teams are stacking one hundred and five scholarship players
and we only have eighty five. And so far, I've
had two players essentially opt out that that that had
roles on our team, and significant roles that played, and
(10:53):
again I can't. I don't know how everybody else's is
going and how they're doing, but they're preserving another season.
And one happened to be a senior who hadn't red shirted,
so he's trying to preserve a red shirt year. One
is a true sophomore that played as a true freshman
that's trying to preserve three years of eligibility and understanding, again,
I understand all that, but over time, especially with the
(11:14):
length of the season, we're adding a ninth SEC game,
which is a brutal on everybody. Not to mention the
extension of the playoffs. You sure we'd like to have
more and more capable bodies to compete at the highest level.
Speaker 1 (11:28):
Got to make sure you locked in and ready to go,
because those numbers play a part in the success with
the travel and everything else that is on there, because
injuries happen as we see. We're just getting started on
this prediction. Thursday edition of The Morning Kickoff coming up.
We'll hear more from coach Sark seven thirty four, our
(11:49):
guy Eric Henry and Florence two four, seven and eight o'clock.
We'll give out our predictions for entertainment purposes only ladies
and gentlemen right here. All Day Prediction Thursday, Day of
the morning kickoff on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundreds.
Speaker 3 (12:05):
Coming up.
Speaker 1 (12:05):
In the next segment, we'll have our guy Eric Henry
of Horse two four to seven talk called things, Texas Longhorns,
Mike Harball Hoards, World Strongest Man, WWE Hall of Famer,
d Mark Henry, and of course we've got our guy
Marcus locked in and ready to go. I wanted to
get back into this conversation because we were just talking
about scholarships and eighty five of them and trying to increase.
(12:29):
Because we talked about the travel and how many guys
are allowed to go. You start looking at all of
these types of scholarships and where we are and there's
no more walk ons and all the different things that
go into it. But as you know, football is get
ever ever evolving, and so there will be more conversations
(12:51):
about that.
Speaker 3 (12:52):
But as we said, coach Sark will have.
Speaker 1 (12:54):
His final media availability today, so you'll hear more from
him tomorrow. But right now, I want you to hear
him on his weekly teleconference with the SEC talking about
this week.
Speaker 4 (13:06):
Well, obviously another SEC ball game and for us, you know,
on the road again. You know, so that's kind of
been a little bit of the theme here in the
month of October, just being away from DKR, and so
I think it's important for us to understanding the magnitude
of this game, being on the road at night in
the SEC. I guess a very dangerous Kentucky team. A
(13:29):
ton of respect for Coach Stoops, his staff, his team,
but this is this is a very important game in
the in the grand scheme of things for our season,
and it's going to take an effort in all three
phases to try to get the job done.
Speaker 3 (13:42):
You know.
Speaker 1 (13:43):
Coach Sark mentioned about being on the road and seems
to be the theme of October. Texas last home game
was twenty seven days ago.
Speaker 3 (13:53):
Think about that it was.
Speaker 1 (13:55):
I mean, they don't play again until seventeen days from now,
so I mean it is It is kind of crazy
when you think about the entire month of October, Texas
will be on the road in the non friendly confines.
As you go into the enemy and you're going into
(14:17):
enemy territory. You know, we talk about Kentucky and how
they're at the bottom of the SEC, but they are
a dangerous football team because they have nothing to lose
and everything that's always very very bad.
Speaker 3 (14:33):
Exactly.
Speaker 1 (14:34):
It is a it is a tough, tough situation that
Texas is in, but we've seen them go into different
situations and make the most of it. So uh, But
I also want to play this for you because coach
Sark was asked and he's gonna continue to be asked this.
I think today he won't be asked this, but I
wouldn't be surprised, but he was asked, what have you
(14:57):
learned about your team and what is it that you
like about it?
Speaker 4 (15:02):
Well, I think the biggest thing I learned about our
team Saturday, I thought we grew up. I thought we
showed a sense of maturity, you know, coming off of
you know, difficult loss.
Speaker 3 (15:11):
Our ability to regroup.
Speaker 4 (15:12):
Stay connected, play as one, play complimentary football, to not
play great in the first half offensively, but show some
resolve and play really well in the second half. What
I like most about our team, As I said, I
think the resolve, the ability to stay connected. Because I
think culture wins, and you know, I know we have
talented people in our building, but it's our culture that's
(15:35):
gonna allow us to persevere throughout this season. I thought
that showed up Saturday, you know how hard.
Speaker 2 (15:41):
I believe wholeheartedly what he said, But I think that
there's also something else. And that's something else is you
got to have guys that are willing to lead, and
you find out who your leaders are when there's problems,
not when you're winning by twenty five.
Speaker 3 (15:58):
When you win about.
Speaker 2 (15:59):
Twenty five, everybody high five in the dancing and you know,
trying to celebrate, yep. But when you lose, you gotta galvanize.
When you lose, you gotta find out, like who's the
common force, who's the guy that holds everybody accountable?
Speaker 3 (16:14):
And I think that that's what they found out in Florida.
Speaker 1 (16:17):
Yeah, well, you got to start understanding too that every
road is not going to be well paved. There's going
to be some rocks in that road that you're going
to have to try to avoid. And this team now
is avoiding those potholes. They're trying to figure out. Okay,
let's get here, let's settle down, as they've been saying,
(16:41):
block out the noise and just focus on us and.
Speaker 3 (16:44):
What we have to do to get better now.
Speaker 1 (16:47):
As we've talked about before and truly understand all that
changes from week to week. In the SEC, it's all
about your performance. We see that with some of these
coaches getting fired, they could care less what you did
last week. What are you doing this week? What are
you doing today to get yourself better? And that is
probably one of the conversations that coach Sark and is
(17:08):
coaching staff have to look in the mirror themselves to
make sure that they're doing what they're supposed to do,
but also bringing the task to those players to make sure, Hey,
the Red River rivalry that's done. That's that's in the
rearview mirror. We got the golden hat. You can walk
by it every day. But we have to go to
Kentucky and all them bourbon drinking people and try to
(17:30):
figure out how we're gonna get this done this week.
Speaker 3 (17:34):
And it's gonna be at night.
Speaker 1 (17:35):
Yes, yes, there's gonna be a lot of bourbon consumed
all day long.
Speaker 3 (17:39):
It's gonna be a wild especially exactly.
Speaker 1 (17:47):
People go eating Derby pie and mint Julius exactly ready
to go.
Speaker 6 (17:52):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (17:52):
Sark was also asked about the cohesiveness of the offensive line,
and this is the thing we just told you at
the beginning of the show if you miss it, the
injury report came out and it seems like Cole Hudson
is going to be out of this game heading into Kentucky,
cond of Robertson is going to slide over and play center.
But still they've been getting better and better. So Cole
(18:14):
Hudson and DJ Campbell, who's played a lot of football,
how they're leading this old line.
Speaker 4 (18:20):
Well, I think just that, you know, it's the experience
they have where you could lean on those guys early
in the season. But I'm seeing now, you know, more
leadership out of Trevor Gooseby. I'm seeing a much more
confident version of Brandon Baker. And like I said Saturday
after the game and on Monday, I think Nick Brooks
is providing us a spark of energy and nastiness and attitude,
(18:43):
which which.
Speaker 3 (18:43):
Is helpful as well.
Speaker 4 (18:44):
So it's all those components together, I think, is what
makes that unit to kind of what they are right now.
Speaker 3 (18:49):
You see them step up to the challenge exactly.
Speaker 2 (18:52):
They stepped up to the challenge and he's finding out
who his leaders are, is what he just said. He said, Goolesby,
what a guy that stepped up and when your coach,
when you feel that that it's okay for me to
say something, because I remember as a freshman sophomore, the
best thing I can do is just be quiet because
(19:13):
my brother was the leader of our team and he
would fight anybody. You need a couple of guys on
your team that intimidate everybody. If you don't recruit those guys,
you're gonna lose. You need a couple of like wolverines
on your team. And Texas has finding out and you
only find that out in the fire. But like I said,
(19:34):
you don't find that out when you celebrating it when
you're winning. You find it when you're losing. It's fortunate
that Texas was able to lose a game like they
did when they did. Now they can spend the rest
of the season trying to get back to that top
five because you need to be in the top five.
So just in case you get to those last three
(19:56):
games and you drop one, you drop six spots. You
don't drop nine, yeah, and then you're out of the playoffs.
Speaker 3 (20:03):
So they need to be in the top five.
Speaker 1 (20:05):
It's brick by brick and step by step every single
step of the way, and that's important for this Texas
football team. But one of the players that have been
playing outstanding is Anthony Hill Junior. The young man out
of the Dallas Fort Worth area has been balling and
continues to make play after play, but he's doing a
(20:25):
little bit better in the coverage and Coach Sark was
asked about him and the fact that he can get
to the quarterback but also dropping coverage.
Speaker 4 (20:34):
I think Anthony's playing really good football for us right now.
You know, we've got a very versatile group of players
and people and what we're trying to get done. You know, again,
we had a little different package going Saturday with Brad
Spence on the field as well, and I think p
K is doing a great job changing things up and
giving people different looks where they can't hone in on us.
Speaker 3 (20:55):
I think Anthony's playing really well for us right now.
Speaker 1 (20:57):
He's doing great in the secondary. He's doing really good
getting to the quarterback. They're making plays.
Speaker 2 (21:03):
Can I tell you I was a little upset about
what I saw on set. That was one of the
few things that I was frustrated about.
Speaker 3 (21:10):
What's up?
Speaker 1 (21:10):
Where is Spence been all this time? Well, there's processes.
There was four games he could have played. That dude
was amazing. There was processes through all of this, just
like Jackson. Jackson was outstanding too, but he only played
eleven plays and he was getting to the quarterback and
being demanded.
Speaker 3 (21:28):
He was being disrupted.
Speaker 1 (21:29):
And that is why you start to look at the
NASCAR packages and what they've tried to create, and now
it's like, all right, we ain't holding nothing back anymore.
We got to get our playmakers on the field and
I'm guaranteed we're gonna see Spence a little bit more.
But it, yeah, I think it also has to do
with the matchup as well. Coming up next, you can
(21:52):
ask our guy Eric Henry of Burn's two four seven
as he joins us right here and on the Prediction
Thursday edition of the Morning kick Off on Sports Radio
AM thirteen hundred. Designers.
Speaker 3 (22:03):
It's Thursday.
Speaker 1 (22:05):
It could be a Thursday Thursday if we wanted to,
but we call it Prediction Thursday. And how can we
make this happen unless we go and get our guy
Eric Henry of Horns two four seven. You can follow
him at Eric c Henry underscore E. It is a
big week for the Texas Longhorns A lot of folks
(22:25):
are expecting Texas to go out to Kentucky and handle business.
Speaker 3 (22:29):
But we know this is a week to week league.
Speaker 1 (22:32):
Texas has to be refocused to head out to Lexington.
Speaker 3 (22:36):
How you doing, buddy, Good.
Speaker 5 (22:38):
Morning, good morning, good morning from uncertain Texas. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
I like that certain.
Speaker 1 (22:45):
So tell us about what you see with this Texas
football team. Obviously, the Red River rivalry was a week ago.
Speaker 3 (22:52):
It's in the past. Now.
Speaker 1 (22:53):
We got hyped about it. It was all excitement. You
beat Oklahoma. Now you gotta buckle back up and get
ready to go on on the road to some unfriendly
confines in Lexington, Kentucky.
Speaker 7 (23:06):
Yeah, listen, why don't we just start with the news
as I heard it in the UH in the commercial
bump coming back to come out of break.
Speaker 5 (23:13):
Cole Hudson, right, is out at center. That is the
big news.
Speaker 7 (23:17):
Coola had been struggling, I should say struggle, I should
say playing through some injuries throughout the season. Of course,
you know it's that time of year, hard Jamark right,
everyone's banged up. No one's really one hundred percent. Cole
this one, we'll see how a lot it keeps him out.
You know, it looks like you have been rolled up
on a little bit. So we all now those things go,
you know, kind of those lower body ankle injuries, especially
with the big man, right, those can be tough.
Speaker 6 (23:37):
Uh.
Speaker 7 (23:37):
You probably will see Connor Robertson at center fill in
for him, So definitely want to keep an eye on
that one there. Outside of that, Listen, you know a
lot's been made in Steve Starkegian. If you know anything
about Steve, he has such a respect for the other
coach and the coaching profession. He's going to talk about
how you know, well coached Mark Stoop's teams are, and
you know how great they they in terms of coaching
(24:00):
from top to bottom. But the fact of the matter
is this, right, this is not the Kentucky team of
last year that had a guy like Dion Walker's now
in the NFL at a peer of defensive guys in
the NFL.
Speaker 5 (24:09):
This Kentucky team, ninety.
Speaker 7 (24:10):
Fourth in the nation in points per game, ninety seventh
in points per game allowed, is the reason why Mark
Stoops is on the hot seat there in Kentucky. But
he's got a big buyout, right, you wouldn't think that
the football coach of Kentucky of a big buyeout, but
he does. So that's by way of saying, listen, Texas
needs to go in and take care of business. They
have an opportunity to build momentum, build off of the
(24:31):
record for shootout.
Speaker 2 (24:33):
Listen, man, I'm all for being honest and peer, but
that's not what I feel like I got from what
I looked in. I did a deep dive, and the
community is calling for his head that like Kentucky is
in disarray, Texas should go down there and really stack
(24:55):
it on him.
Speaker 7 (24:55):
Right Yeah, no, Mark, I'll piggyback off that point again. Yes,
like I said, Mark Stoops, I joked about it earlier.
But he is represented by the college football super agent
Jimmy Sexton. So you know, whenever you got Jimmy Sexton,
it's gonna be hard. You go get your money, all right,
you can fire, but you're gonna get your money.
Speaker 3 (25:11):
Right.
Speaker 5 (25:12):
But no, I mean Mark Stoops. See, he had some
ten wins seasons at Kentucky.
Speaker 7 (25:15):
Again, it's a basketball school, but they're coming off of
four and eight last year, looking at possibly four and
eight and three and nine this year.
Speaker 5 (25:21):
So yes, they are in disarray.
Speaker 7 (25:23):
What the second week in three weeks, Texas is facing
a team who's head coach is fighting for their job.
Speaker 5 (25:29):
Right, So to flip that.
Speaker 7 (25:31):
Into the football field, you're talking about a Kentucky team.
Ideally you would think they'd be desperate, right, want to
throw everything out there.
Speaker 5 (25:37):
But yes, Texas should go out there and take care
of business.
Speaker 7 (25:39):
I'll just add one other thing real quick, because like
I said, guys, this isn't the Kentucky team of last
year where they really have guys who can threaten Texas.
Speaker 5 (25:46):
They just don't be honest. Cutter Bowley, young quarterback.
Speaker 7 (25:49):
Texas made easy work of him when he came in
last year for Brock Vandergriff. Seth McGowan. You know Texas
fans maybe familiar. Was a former four star recruited Oklahoma,
played at oklahom in twenty twenty, got kicked off the
team and ended up, you know, having to face some
felony charges. He's kind of resurfaced at Kentucky. He is
the starting running back. But those are the two threats.
Outside of that, there is no one for Kentucky that
(26:11):
can really threaten Texas. I'll bring him back to the
offensive line real quick. Connor Strow also on the injury
report as questionable. I'm expecting Connor Strove to play right,
you know, and again we'll kind of see what his
situation is because Nick Brooks has emerged at left guard.
But I mentioned stro because with Cole Hudson being out,
you need all the death you can have on the
interior of the offensive line.
Speaker 1 (26:31):
Yeah, that's very important. We're talking to Eric Henry of
Horns two four seven. You can follow him at Eric C.
Henry Underscore and of course you can follow all his
work at Horns two four seven. E. You got an
article that's out there that's called the Four Downs. You
write it weekly, and one of the things that you
put in there was you, O coach Steve Sarkisian an apology,
(26:53):
and that's your first down. And I was kind of like, wait, what,
why do you own an apology? You've been you've been fair,
you've been fair. But I'm gonna let you tell why
you felt like he deserved an apology.
Speaker 5 (27:04):
Yeah, well, listen, I appreciate that hard.
Speaker 7 (27:06):
I do think I've been fear Here's why I felt
like I wowed an apology, right, you know, going into
the Oklahoma game, I kind of did this thought experiment, Fellas.
I said, look, ideally, from year to year, if you
are out of Texas and Ohio State and Alabama, regardless
of how many players you lose to the NFL, you
would think you would have an upgrade in the starting lineup.
(27:26):
You're starting twenty two, You're gonna have an upgrade at
one position because this is a big time school, right.
I won't, you know, belabor the segment and run down
the entire starters. But entering the Oklahoma game, I said,
there isn't a starter on the terms of offense and
defense that you would say is either equal to or
upgrade from last year. That includes the guys who were
(27:46):
starters last year, Anthony Hill, Countravn Wisner, a couple of
the returners, right. And I looked at that and said, man, well,
if you look at it that way, this Texas team
really is bound for eight and four, right, And there's
nothing wrong with that.
Speaker 5 (27:57):
It's just a rebuilding year. But I looked at it
that way.
Speaker 7 (27:59):
How the reason I felt out of an apology is
I felt that Steve Sarkisian in his own way, you
can't come out and ask for patients as a collegeotball
coach go as James Franklin, what patience gets you, right,
it gets you in the unemployment line. You can't go
ask for patients as a colleg football coach.
Speaker 5 (28:13):
But I felt that.
Speaker 7 (28:14):
Steve Sarkisian, in his own way, was saying, guys, I
hope and hard.
Speaker 5 (28:17):
You're there on Mondays.
Speaker 7 (28:18):
You've heard hear him say this, guys, I want to
be playing our best football in November and December.
Speaker 3 (28:24):
Right.
Speaker 7 (28:25):
That to me was a shift from previous years where
you going with a veteran team, the Jade Barons, the
Jape Majors, the Hayden Connors, and you say, hey, we
know we're ready to hit the ground running, right, we
know we can come out in September, October, November, September,
October played great football. This was a shift in, hey,
I hope we're playing our best football in November and December.
So I felt the apology, and you know it was
(28:47):
kind of tongue in cheek. Was not giving Steve Sarkisian
the credit for Hey, this group is younger and more inexperienced,
and you hope that they're kind of going this way
ascending come November in December. I just felt that hey,
right now, you are who you are and didn't give
them the leeway that they could grow as a team
as players.
Speaker 2 (29:06):
Well, Kim Folk, if you're looking for a shining example
of improvement from last year to this year, upgrade if
you will, from last season, all you gotta do is
look at the punt and kickoff game, right because you
got the number one guy in the SEC at the
University of Texas right now with an average of twenty
(29:29):
one point six, and that's Ryan Niblett. So that's an
improvement from last year.
Speaker 7 (29:35):
Well, I mean yeah, I mean Silas Bolden was hit
or miss for sure, and Ryan Nibblett. You know if
obviously Mark, this was prior to the Oklahoma game, right,
So now with Ryan Niblett's punt return touchdown, he certainly
would be an improvement. I was agreeing with you because
I would agree with you there in terms of return
game and also say, if you're going to include specialists
kicker and punter are clar upgrades, right, But just you know,
(29:56):
in terms of the offense, the twenty two there that
I felt that all right, that was not necessarily didn't
have either equal to or an upgrade. But again, like
I said, you know, there is certainly room for so
many guys. You know Ryan Wingo, Nick Brooks, the interior
defensive line, you know, Jolani McDonald. The list goes on
(30:17):
right of guys who can go this way and ascend
as an arch manic. That's the number one guy right
who can ascend come November and December.
Speaker 1 (30:26):
And that is the specialty part of that, where these
guys and the skilled positions that we expect to take
that extra step.
Speaker 3 (30:32):
We're starting to see it.
Speaker 1 (30:34):
As always, he continued a great work over at Horns
two four seven. Make sure you give him a follow
at Eric c Henry Underscore and of course check out
all of his work.
Speaker 3 (30:45):
He will appreciate you, brother, any tom appreciate you fellas.
There is Eric Henry of Horns two four seven coming
up next the.
Speaker 1 (30:52):
Blue Jays saying hold up, willing done yet? Player, We'll
let you hear all about it as they was bang bang,
they was hitting that thing last night right here on
the morning kickoff on sports Radio and thirteen hundred the Zone.
Great stuff by our guy, Eric Henry of Horns two
(31:12):
four seven. Make sure you follow them that Eric c
Henry underscore heard also coming up at the top of
the hour, we will be doing our predictions entertainment purposes only, folks.
Speaker 3 (31:24):
Just remember that before you pass judgment. We wanted to.
Speaker 1 (31:28):
Get into this conversation because major League Baseball. By the way,
make sure you make the plans right now. On the
twenty first, What Killed the Montreal Expos will be on
Netflix and I am all about watching that documentary, so
make sure you check it out. Nineteen ninety four, the
(31:50):
Expos were going to win the division and they had
their best chance to be a World Series champion, just
like the team that is north of the border as well,
the Toronto Blue Jays.
Speaker 8 (32:04):
The Blue Jays in business to open the third with
the nine hitter Jimenez. U is a high fly ball
off for the bat of Jimenez that's carrying well.
Speaker 3 (32:12):
Roadblas times and watches a cry.
Speaker 8 (32:15):
It's the nine hitter, Andrece Hemenez. Fuck off, people hiving
Toronto the swing that they're desperately needed.
Speaker 3 (32:22):
It's tied at too.
Speaker 8 (32:25):
His first bit, swinging this bus hit in the ear
to deep center field and George Springer gets it over the.
Speaker 3 (32:30):
Wall for a home run.
Speaker 8 (32:33):
His EXCA base impact continues. Third home run of the
postseason for Springer and they've got six.
Speaker 1 (32:43):
Flat.
Speaker 8 (32:43):
Junior sends a high drive the.
Speaker 3 (32:44):
Deep center field. Rigues time that's gone.
Speaker 8 (32:48):
First pitch of the fifth fled Junior launches a psto shot,
Cook sends a fly ball the other way road blazed,
retreating to the track on opposite field blast front a
hundre Kirk kind of dungeon for the chase on their.
Speaker 3 (33:07):
Fourth poun of the nine.
Speaker 9 (33:09):
Jaez with ten percent chance to have a fifth home
run tonight ty postseason team record, Old baby, there's thirty
percent chance. Google Now, then did they?
Speaker 8 (33:23):
Burger goes deep his first home round of the postseason.
Speaker 3 (33:28):
Yeah, it's thirteen to four.
Speaker 1 (33:31):
Great great performance by the Toronto Blue Jays, whose bats
have been quiet. Besides Springer and Vladimir Guerrero, everybody was
kind of quiet in that particular moment. But they went
out there on the road, went to Seattle and beat
the Mariners thirteen to four. Big time game for Shane
Bieber six innings, four hits, two earned runs and eight
(33:54):
k's in his starting work.
Speaker 3 (33:56):
Kurby for the.
Speaker 1 (33:58):
Mariners got slapped around eight hits, eight urn runs, four
k's and two walks.
Speaker 3 (34:04):
Cayl Riley got his.
Speaker 1 (34:05):
Sixty second home run of the season, third in the postseason.
Just continues to bang the baseball. But it was not enough,
and the Blue Jays said, we.
Speaker 3 (34:17):
Ain't dead yet. Did you see it coming? I did.
Speaker 1 (34:21):
I mean, that's a great team, man, I mean, honestly,
you don't see these guys getting worked like that every
single game.
Speaker 3 (34:29):
Manyeah, those that surely woke up last year.
Speaker 1 (34:31):
Yeah, they were struggling a little bit and they started
to really get after it. Now we have two more
games today as the Brewers and the Dodgers. Dodgers have
a two to zero league, they are back in LA.
That game starts at four eight or five oh eight
and it'll be on TBS, and then seven thirty three
(34:52):
on FS one you have the Blue Jays against the Mariners.
Speaker 3 (34:56):
Again.
Speaker 1 (34:56):
Mariners still have a two to one lead, and so
it's gonna be important for the Blue Jays to try
to come back from what they did yesterday because most
of the time, when your bats get going and you
score that many runs, you have a false sense of
security in that situation. But like I said, George Springer,
who hits another home run, just continues to bang the baseball,
(35:21):
and Vladimir Guerrero, who was just as hot as anybody.
He was a triple away from the cycle last night
and he could have got the cycle, but he decided
to pull up.
Speaker 2 (35:31):
He was one of those guys that I talked about yesterday,
like they just show up sometimes, you know.
Speaker 3 (35:37):
I always use my team as an example. The star.
Speaker 2 (35:41):
You would expect Stanton a judge, the shine yep, and
Vladimir hadn't done that in this series. So like for
him to do that last night, it was like, Okay,
do a die and maybe they need to have that mentality.
That's the manager that should be able to bring that
out of guys.
Speaker 3 (35:58):
Guys, this is it.
Speaker 1 (36:00):
We're going home, and they're doing this without Dante, I
mean Dante Puschett, without Pashett at shortstop, Dante's dad. But
this is a team that continues to find a way
to get it done. They got great pitching yesterday and
now they get another opportunity for that. Twenty two years
ago thanks to my guys, CB. Happy belated birthday, CB,
(36:21):
twenty two years ago today. Aaron Boom, speaking of the Yankees,
hit the ball off the top of the foul pole
for them to walk off in Game seven in the Alcs.
So it is a big time day for home runs
and all.
Speaker 3 (36:40):
That is involved. Too bad. The Yankees are at home Mark.
You just did that to make me make my heart hurt. Yeah,
I did. I just do with you. I just I
did that because you came in here with your Air
Force ones on the day. Black nikes, my black nikes.
Speaker 1 (36:58):
Now, but you know, you look at Aaron Boone and
the whole story behind that and him becoming the Yankees manager,
and now they're trying to figure out what they're gonna.
Speaker 3 (37:10):
Do with him and getting somebody else. That's it. That's what.
That's it. That's what they like. Hey man, he could
be a fan.
Speaker 2 (37:18):
He's always gonna be heralded as a great player in
the organization.
Speaker 3 (37:23):
And let's leave it at that. Okay, Well, we need.
Speaker 2 (37:26):
Somebody else to come in and get these guys fired
up because they're not making it seems like he makes
moves based off his emotions.
Speaker 1 (37:35):
Well sometimes it's okay, I mean, you gotta go with
your gut.
Speaker 3 (37:38):
It's something.
Speaker 1 (37:39):
The analytics are the things that bother me sometimes because
you don't have a feel.
Speaker 3 (37:44):
You don't have a feel. You're looking at a piece
of paper.
Speaker 1 (37:47):
That says, oh, man, this guy's gonna face them three times. Well,
you know he struck him out three times. So what
what does your analytics say about that? You know, there's
certain things that you see, just like some guys aren't
walking others they're not intentionally walking. Yesterday they didn't. They
couldn't walk anybody. They was just trying to find out.
Speaker 2 (38:08):
But why you put people take people out of the
lineup that are doing well that should be in the lineup.
He does that so often that it pisses everybody off,
and I don't like that. I think he does it
because he wants control rather than wins. If you want
to control your team and tell people what to do,
(38:30):
then go coach a little league.
Speaker 3 (38:33):
This is the pros trying to win or my emotions wonners.
Speaker 1 (38:38):
I'm like, yeah, your emotions are way out of His
whole family is major leaguers like he.
Speaker 3 (38:45):
I think he knows the game though well, he knows.
Speaker 2 (38:47):
The game better than me.
Speaker 3 (38:48):
He's forgot more than I know.
Speaker 2 (38:50):
But I know that I'd like to see the players
that should be out there out.
Speaker 1 (38:54):
There that I will give you fair to that, I
will give you fair. Thank Younumber one is in the books.
Coming up next, we will be giving out our predictions
at eight seventeen julyn in the taking, and there are
reports that one guy for the Cowboys might be back.
Speaker 3 (39:13):
The Rosters getting thick over there right.
Speaker 1 (39:16):
Here on the Morning Kickoff on sports Radio AM thirteen
hundred The Zone. Welcome back to our number two of
the Morning Kickoff right here on sports Radio AM thirteen
hundred The Zone. It is a prediction Thursday edition of
the Morning Kickoff right here on sports Radio AM thirteen
hundred The Zone. When we started the show off, we
(39:36):
talked about the injury report and it is not good.
Starting center Cole Hudson is out for this big ball
game against Kentucky, but Texas, as always, will try to
figure it out. We also got a chance to hear
from coach sark as he was talking about his team,
what he learned from them and how good the offensive
(39:56):
line played last week. Got to talk to our guy
Eric Henry from Part Unknown Uncertain Texas as a matter
of fact, as he broke down the trip to Lexington
and what the importance of that. And you just heard
about the Mariners getting beat down five home runs by
the Blue Jays and Vladimir Guerrero, Vladi Dotti. We likes
(40:18):
the potty almost had himself. Ah, he does. We hurt somebody.
He did hurt that baseball yesterday. So we'll see what
happens tonight as they get ready to go. In the
next segment, we'll hear from Jerry Jones. He thinks his
defense is okay. But this is a big time matchup
for the Dallas Cowboys to play the Washington Commanders. They
(40:42):
need this more than anything else. But right now, it's
prediction day, people.
Speaker 2 (40:48):
That's rights right now.
Speaker 3 (40:51):
That's right, prediction Day. Last week, our.
Speaker 1 (40:54):
Guy Marcus continued to stay at five hundred. He is

Speaker 1 (41:43):
You going with Marcus because he got the better record

Speaker 3 (42:29):
Six and oh they will be six and one. Oh.
I like that. I like that, Markus.
Speaker 10 (42:36):
I'm taking Georgia Tech one and a half plus one
and a half versus.

Duke Georgia Tech plus one and a half versus Duke

ain't on the ground.
Speaker 3 (43:19):
Mark Henry your pick.
Speaker 2 (43:20):
Hey, listen, I know this is not an SEC game,
but I'm going USC over thirteen rank No to.
Speaker 1 (43:28):
Day twenty years since Reggie Bush cheated and pushed Matt
Lionard over the gold line.
Speaker 3 (43:34):
Twenty years ago. That happened.
Speaker 1 (43:37):
Marcus going with the cheaters.
Speaker 10 (43:40):
Marcus, I am taking Missouri minus one and a half
versus Auburn.
Speaker 1 (43:46):

finish out our college picks. Marcus Spears and Mark Henry

Speaker 3 (44:11):
Mark Henry kick us off.
Speaker 2 (44:13):
You know what, man, I'm gonna go with my my
new favorite team. I'm gonna go the Falcons over the
forty nine Ers.
Speaker 1 (44:23):
Oh you switched it because originally you had the Steelers.
Speaker 3 (44:29):
No, that's that's just one of my I got three.
Speaker 1 (44:31):
I know, but that that wasn't one of your picks.
That was your silent pick to me.

Speaker 3 (44:39):
Yeah, yeah yeah.
Speaker 2 (44:41):

I'm with you.
Speaker 1 (44:47):
That's minus three. I am taking the Rams as well,
minus three.
Speaker 3 (44:51):
Marcus.
Speaker 10 (44:53):
I'm taking Buccaneers plus five and a half versus the
Lions versus.
Speaker 1 (44:57):
A lot That's a big time matchup. It's hard to
go against Baker Baking touchdown maker.
Speaker 3 (45:01):
I'm gonna believe that.
Speaker 1 (45:02):
Go ahead, Marcus, kick us off again.
Speaker 10 (45:04):
I'm staying on Monday Night football and I'm taking the
Texas plus three versus the Seahawks.
Speaker 1 (45:09):
He is, Hey, you knew he couldn't stay away from ahetown.
Speaker 3 (45:12):
Mark couldn't do it. He did it one week.
Speaker 1 (45:14):
And he's like, I can't I gotta have it one
more time. Mark Henry, your second pick in the NFL.
Speaker 2 (45:21):
My heart, My Heart's like my world's take two days
ago was about the Steelers and Aaron Rodgers, and I'm
going with the Steelers.
Speaker 1 (45:32):
Over the Bengal Steelers over the bad Bungle. That game
is tonight. We'll have more conversation about that.
Speaker 3 (45:38):
Your prime video. Get your prime video.
Speaker 1 (45:41):
It is time because it is prime Steelers minus five
and a half. I am going with the Cleveland Browns.
Speaker 3 (45:50):
That's right.
Speaker 1 (45:51):
I am taking the Browns over the Dolphins, and I
just can't do it with Tua. I'm sure somebody else
is gonna have a opposite pick. As a matter of fact,
let's go ahead.
Speaker 3 (46:03):
And do that right now.
Speaker 1 (46:04):
Well, since we on the subject of the Dolphins and
the Browns, which I so endaringly call it the Nftitude Bowl,
I'm gonna go with the Dolphins.
Speaker 3 (46:16):
I just don't think that there's an answer for a chain.
Speaker 1 (46:21):
That's the only problem that I have with that eight
chain is pretty dog gone. Nice Marcus your final pick.
Speaker 10 (46:29):
Hey, if I want to stay on the right side
and keep it correct, I'm going against the Jets. I'm
taking the Panthers minus one and a half over the Jets.
Speaker 1 (46:37):
Panthers playing really good, especially if they went out there
and beat the Cowboys. They have to be playing great
football because the Cowboys are a Super Bowl pick. But
I'm gonna go ahead and ride with what I wasn't
talking out loud. I am going My final pick will
be the Chargers minus one and a half.
Speaker 3 (46:59):
They will be taking on the Coats.
Speaker 1 (47:01):
I know everybody loves Danny, but I am going the
other way. I'm taking the Chargers. Justin Herbert. If you
don't do it now, I quit you. I quit you.
Speaker 3 (47:12):
Aren't you in school? Now? Yeah? Your final pick? I
think you did it.
Speaker 2 (47:18):
I did my final pick, but I just got his
comment on this. D Daniel Jones is killing the league
right now. If it was not for Baker Mayfield and
Dak Priscott, he would be the number one quarterback in
the NFL. Can you hear what I'm saying?
Speaker 6 (47:37):
This is.
Speaker 3 (47:39):
Danny Dimes is now Danny Diamond.
Speaker 1 (47:43):
Oh my gosh, We're not We're not We're not doing that.
Yeah we are, We're not doing exactly. I mean, like,
what what are we doing? Look look at his stats?
I'm about too up because you always are on me.
Hell Mark, you keep pulling these people out of the woodwork.
You're dumb like I do. Sometimes I gotta admit, but
(48:05):
not in this case.
Speaker 2 (48:07):
That guy has left the New York Giants hell and
he's come out on the other side of the mountain.
He has come out and he has made his self
whole again. Oh my goodness, a man, I'm talking about
collectively passing and Russian leading NFL quarterbacks.
Speaker 3 (48:30):
Where do you think he fits in right now at
the MVP conversation? Four or third? Wrong?
Speaker 2 (48:37):
If you say first, I'm gonna throw up. Daniel Jones,
Oh heck no, Where did it happen? Twelfth twelve? Twelfth twelfth?
You know who's number one? Patrick mahone?
Speaker 3 (48:53):
Boy?
Speaker 1 (48:54):
You know who numberboy? Baker, Baker touchdown maker?
Speaker 3 (48:58):
Three?
Speaker 6 (48:59):
Is that?
Speaker 3 (48:59):
Nope? Josh Allen is three. You know who's on?
Speaker 2 (49:03):
You know who is in the see this is the
beauty contest. This is about fast.
Speaker 1 (49:08):
Drake May is fourth, Drake May, Trizzy, Matthew Stafford, Matthew Stafford, fifth,
Jared Goff six, Justin Herbert seventh, Jordan Love, Lamar Lamar Jackson.
Speaker 3 (49:26):
Need to be out of here.
Speaker 1 (49:27):
Jaydon Daniels and Dak Prescott then Daniels.
Speaker 2 (49:31):
It's a beauty contest. Who is who is leading the
league against Russian touchdown?
Speaker 3 (49:36):
Hey, don't shoot the messager.
Speaker 1 (49:39):
I'm just reading what the people say at Draft Kings,
the game.
Speaker 3 (49:42):
Of the people that Draft Kings can't play.
Speaker 1 (49:44):
They can't, but they can pick. They can pick. Let's
see what he is, Let's see what Let's see what
his odds are for offensive? Oh, that's rookie of the
offensive Player of the Year. Let's see what his odds are? Yeah,
not seeing him? Steve way down Yonder, So are you down?
So people don't believe in Danny Dies.
Speaker 3 (50:06):
They don't believe now, but they.
Speaker 1 (50:07):
Will when they get beat this weekend by the Chargers.
That's what I'm talking about. We're gonna listen to the
crypt keeper as he talks about all the hope do
we have toys had because we are your home for
the Dallas Cowboys as well as the Texans, and of
course you're Texas Longhorns right here on sports Radio AM
(50:30):
follow my first.
Speaker 3 (50:35):
Man.
Speaker 1 (50:35):
I just got a text from one of my homeboys
that said, our picks are terrible and if you pick them,
go the opposite way.
Speaker 3 (50:43):
I don't believe in that, Mark. I don't believe in that, Mark.
Speaker 2 (50:48):
I just want to know what's wrong with it, because
I thought I picked pretty awesome.
Speaker 3 (50:52):
I mean, but if our history tells us.
Speaker 1 (50:54):
That, yeah, maybe he on the phone, maybe he not
living on some about Hey, we told y'all it's entertainment
purposes only.
Speaker 2 (51:06):
Yeah, we're trying to be entertaining. We're trying to entertain ourselves.
Speaker 1 (51:10):
Infotainment is what we're giving you.
Speaker 3 (51:12):
So, I mean, and watch.
Speaker 1 (51:14):
This will be the week y'all go the opposite way,
and y'all gonna be mad man.
Speaker 3 (51:18):
That's right. We know. That's why we're here.
Speaker 1 (51:21):
And you know, one thing we do know is that
the Dallas Cowboys are playing the Washington Commanders and Jerry Jones,
the Crip keeper, he's letting us know that his defense
is gonna be just fine. And let me tell you
why Jerry Jones believes that his defense is going to
(51:41):
be just fine. The injury report against the Washington Commanders
came out yesterday and right now, right now, at this
particular moment, Marshawn kneeling somebody that you want off the
team already because you try to trade him because he
kept getting Yeah, we got some tissue he is got,
can't do it. He has got an ankle injury. He
(52:03):
was limited in practice, so he still should be able
to go. Jonathan Sanborn, the the linebacker who is the
worst on the T.
Speaker 2 (52:12):
Fifty two that comes in so high. Yet he's got
to like try to lower his cynergravity just to slow down. Yes,
they should call him drive by. Yeah, because he just floats.
You stop to break his brakes is off. He need
to go get his realignment.
Speaker 3 (52:29):
You need to go to break check break.
Speaker 1 (52:33):
Yeah, but we do get help on the defensive end.
James Houston is back and ready to go. Kayln Carson,
the defensive back that the Cowboys went out and got.
He is a full participant. He was designated for returning.
Is in that twenty one day practice window, and you're god,
Trayvon Dicks, he was full practice.
Speaker 3 (52:55):
He was full practice, so he'll be. You need to practice,
he'll be. If anybody needs practic this is him. I'm
telling you right now.
Speaker 1 (53:02):
The problem with the Cowboys is they're trying to play
zone defense. The Cowboys have guys on the outside that
are good men to man coverage guys no.
Speaker 3 (53:12):
Digs kept doing it.
Speaker 1 (53:13):
The problem is that keep putting them in this zone.
You saw it last week third and two and he's
seventeen yards off the ball. Our corners are playing too
far off the ball. You can't stop anybody that way.
You cannot. I don't care who it is. Even Bryce
Young was making.
Speaker 3 (53:31):
You look bad.
Speaker 1 (53:31):
The dude McMillan caught two touchdowns last week. Those were
the first two of the season for him, happening.
Speaker 3 (53:38):
Against the Cowboys. They keep giving up big plays.
Speaker 1 (53:41):
Rico o'doddell told you to buckle up, and you thought
that you didn't have to drive in a safety net.
You just kept going out there and he kept running
you over like it makes no sense on a lot
of this, But if you listen to Jerry Jones and
we got it for it. Jerry seems to think the
pass rucks will improve in certain areas.
Speaker 6 (54:02):
We've got a lot of personnel, especially in our past rush.
Speaker 3 (54:06):
We're deep in pass rush.
Speaker 6 (54:08):
We were really not deep last year because we had
so many injuries and Sam Williams, Parsons people like that. Lawrence, Well,
we're not in that ship this year, and so we've
got a real strength there. And I think we'll use
that as we look and adjust in the games of
head and as always, we've got some adjustments to make.
(54:31):
We'll make those on defense, and not necessarily an adjustment
of player or an adjustment of something you'd see when
you line up, but more an adjustment of just focus
and an emphasis on some of the keys that to
those players are keying off.
Speaker 3 (54:53):
But I think we can improve on our defense. And
Kennedy answer you question.
Speaker 6 (54:59):
We have thought all along that if we see a
way to improve this year with the trade at the deadline,
then we'll take advantage of it. And that's Uh, that's
what we position for to start this year was to
have ammunition to do things if we have an opportunity.
Speaker 3 (55:15):
Jerry, Jerry, Jerry, Jerry.
Speaker 1 (55:21):
Was on that Johnny Walker blue Man for real. Jerry's like,
we're in a perfect position to make some moves. Uh, Jerry,
do you have a trade in mind right now?
Speaker 3 (55:33):
Yeah?
Speaker 6 (55:33):
It does make sense, and that is their job, and
uh it does add. It does add to try to
speculate on how Overshawn is going to impact his defense. Uh,
is speculation the best and the same thing with Ravel
(55:54):
we hear about he's doing things out here that are
just amazing. He hasn't played in the NFL, and you
know that's gonna cost you somebody.
Speaker 3 (56:03):
So if he's on the deal. So that's the part of.
Speaker 6 (56:09):
The nuances that you have to work we walk away.
Part of the likelihood of the players that we've got
coming back, how they will impact where I put this team.
Speaker 3 (56:21):
I supposed if we should.
Speaker 6 (56:23):
Add a player in the trade, and I don't have
a trade in mind about that at all. And you
if uh that comes about right now, he's someone is
something gonna call.
Speaker 2 (56:33):
Single over songe What exactly Jerry has been smoking the
same thing that Mike mcdania's is smoking.
Speaker 3 (56:43):
What in the hell is going on?
Speaker 2 (56:45):
Well, I'm okay, I know he's an older gentleman, but
they need to take his car keys, take his keys
because he is gone.
Speaker 3 (56:58):
Yeah, I mean the engine running, but nobody's got the.
Speaker 1 (57:01):
Whil Hey, he's in one of those those new homes.
They are just driving them around. It ain't nobody in
the front seat. That is what is going on with
Jerry again?
Speaker 3 (57:13):
Did you hear that?
Speaker 1 (57:14):
This get I didn't understand any of it, but it
gets better. This is this that's right here is my
fav can't.
Speaker 3 (57:19):
It can't.
Speaker 1 (57:20):
By the way, you could listen to all the Dallas
Cowboy game on our sister station ninety eight point one
kvet Kvett, but of course you can always hear it
on the free iHeartRadio app. Hey, Washington Commanders lose the
other night on that fumble against the Chicago Bears. They escape, right,
but Jerry said, who that helped us because we're still
(57:41):
in it.
Speaker 3 (57:42):
We are still in it.
Speaker 6 (57:43):
And it reminded me that that was Verry Leaf similar
to the way we got beat and they came down
and they read, changs Q, get.
Speaker 3 (57:52):
The ball and get to kick.
Speaker 6 (57:54):
Give me the chance to have our offense with the
ball down there Sunday where we had it and I
like our odds winning that game, and it was right
down to that right now. They did not surprise us
on running that ball against us like that. That that
was a suspect and we'd like to have a.
Speaker 3 (58:14):
Mulligan and we'll get some.
Speaker 6 (58:17):
But still I see so much periody. And then you
factor in that these teams get compromise with injury, and
we can have and may, but if we should have
some good go of it here over the next weeks
(58:38):
ahead with our injury situation, in return of injury, and
we can get some wins. Then this thing with Dak
playing the way he's playing and the way some of
the guys have played that are playing with these guys.
Speaker 3 (58:52):
Out right now, I'm encouraged. I'm encouraged.
Speaker 6 (58:56):
The last thing that thinking about is in any way
being album.
Speaker 11 (59:01):
What you just said is one of the most insanely
idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in
your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything
that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this
room is now dumber for having listened to it. I
(59:23):
award you no points, and may God have mercy on
your soul heart.
Speaker 3 (59:28):
That got two things. I got two things.
Speaker 2 (59:32):
Number one, the interviewer whoever was asking him the questions.
Speaker 3 (59:37):
Those our guy, what else? Chill those clear? Clarence.
Speaker 2 (59:41):
Clarence was like talking to an old person with dementia?
Speaker 3 (59:45):
Is that yeah?
Speaker 2 (59:48):
Mm hmm, yeah, I'm sorry baby. And that's number one
and number two. Okay, for those that don't know, a
mulligan is basically a duo over in golf, just educating.
Speaker 3 (01:00:05):
Jerry said, wish we had a mother. Nothing.
Speaker 2 (01:00:10):
Then he said, we don't have one, but we're gonna
get some.
Speaker 3 (01:00:15):
How the hell do you get a mullgu in ball?
How do you get a do over? That's one of
those that at where you.
Speaker 1 (01:00:22):
Sign up at the golf turbament and they say how
many mulligans would you?
Speaker 3 (01:00:25):
You got to pay for him? Jerry's fan for it.
That's that old school. That's an old school turn off
the game mid game to start it over.
Speaker 1 (01:00:35):
This is this, This is where my boy said, Man,
Jerry's family finally needs to intervene.
Speaker 3 (01:00:39):
He's not doing well. He is not doing well. Once again,
it is on.
Speaker 1 (01:00:45):
Jerry Jones believes that this is the opportunity for his
Dallas Cowboys.
Speaker 3 (01:00:50):
I've been good. Yeah, why do I get treated like this?
Speaker 1 (01:00:54):
Because that's just how it goes man. Coming up next,
we got the w WE Hall of Famer bringing you
his world's strongest take right here on the morning kickoff
on Sports Radio Am thirteen hundred design. You heard him
say he's still trying to figure out why Dexter Lawrence
and uh the Marcus lawd excuse me, and Michael Parsons
(01:01:14):
was brought up in the conversation. But he's a w
WE Hall of Famer and he's recognized as the world's
strongest man. He is deep Mark Henry and he's bringing
you his world's strongest take.
Speaker 2 (01:01:26):
Take it away, good fella hard, Yes, sir, you know
what time it is?
Speaker 3 (01:01:30):
What time is it?
Speaker 2 (01:01:31):
It's time for Jerry Jones to get a little body
me is what it is known that it's time for
the world's strongest take by the world's strongest man. My
guess back then they didn't know me. Now I'm hot,
they're all arm me. Oh man, I'm trying to still
(01:01:53):
trying to recover. In that break, Jerry Jones drove me
to eat. You know, some people have issues, they drink
alcohol or do drugs. Food is my vice and I
(01:02:14):
had a piece of pie. I had to calm my nerves.
But my world strongest take today, guys, is about what
I saw last night. And with all the football that's
going on, there was basketball. The preseason started in the
Los Angeles Lakers. My team, of course, played against the
(01:02:37):
Dallas Mavericks. Now you would think that it would be
about Luca because Luca looks amazing. The guy dropped thirty
seven pounds. He played through the summer, took a little
break and that's back in it, which I think is
the best thing for him. But my world struggles take
(01:02:59):
is not about him. It's about who they played. They
played against the Dallas Mavericks, and of course, the Dallas
Mavericks got the first overall pick in the draft in
the NBA draft, and they chose a small forward, power forward,
(01:03:21):
not a point guard. Maybe you didn't hear me. They
chose a small forward, power forward. But last night he
played point and it's only because Kyrie Irving is still recovering.
(01:03:41):
He's already in basketball operations and will be playing in
the next two weeks. But last night Cooper Flag played
point guard for the Dallas Mavericks. The Jason Kidd said
that his team has about thirty six plays that they
(01:04:03):
run in their system. He said he already mastered all
thirty six plays. The guys, he's eighteen years old, Guys,
for him to have the aptitude, let's not even let's
say he's not a dominant athlete, a historically dominant athlete,
(01:04:28):
Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson type athlete. His ability to be
able to comprehend basketball at eighteen.
Speaker 3 (01:04:39):
Years old is Moses Malone.
Speaker 2 (01:04:42):
Like there haven't been many guys that came directly out
of high school that was able to do what Cooper
Flag is doing. And you can name him on one hand,
and I mentioned Moses Malone, Kevin Garnet, Kobe Bryant. You know,
there there were a few guys that were able to
(01:05:03):
do that. Cooper Flag is one of them.
Speaker 3 (01:05:07):
Last night.
Speaker 2 (01:05:08):
Last night he had three pick and roll plays that
ended in dunks and highlight real dunks. The guy is
extremely I think we're understating how great it is. This
is what I want everybody to do. I want you
to take the arch maning hype and focus that and
redirect it at Cooper Flag because he is that good.
Speaker 3 (01:05:34):
And we can talk.
Speaker 2 (01:05:35):
About the history of basketball, but I just wanted to
harge my take is this Cooper Flag.
Speaker 3 (01:05:43):
He may be the face of the league in the
next two to three years. What's say.
Speaker 1 (01:05:50):
I'm not going to crowning poopool on your take right now,
because I really do like the kid. I think he's
gonna be a excellent bye player. Well, let's pump out
breaks a little bit, you know what I'm saying. I mean,
it's been what preseason played a couple of games, still
got a lot to.
Speaker 3 (01:06:11):
Learn about the game, a lot of physicality.
Speaker 1 (01:06:14):
They're not just gonna let him walk into the league
and be Larry Bird.
Speaker 3 (01:06:19):
They're gonna have to They're gonna have to earn. He's
gonna have to earn it.
Speaker 1 (01:06:23):
Now, his team, they gonna be solid because you put
put him with the Anthony Davis, you put him with
a Kyrie, you put him with Klay Thompson, guys that
have some skins on the wall in this league, champion
ship level.
Speaker 3 (01:06:39):
And you got.
Speaker 1 (01:06:42):
And you have them with Jason Kidd, who is by
far I think his mind is so good as a
point guard, and the teaching abilities of the game, and
his calmness along the way. Now, as I said, I
think he's gonna be a amazing in the league. Let's
(01:07:02):
not just say all right, there's some other guys that's
gonna have something to say about the abilities in the
league too.
Speaker 2 (01:07:08):
Let's talk about Let's go back to when he was
he just turned seventeen, and he was playing against and
he played against the Olympic team. He had twenty one
points against the Olympic team of America. Of who of
the United States of America. He gave Anthony Davis Anthony
(01:07:32):
Davis was covering him. He gave Anthony Davis twenty one points.
What do you think that he's gonna do the guys
that are beneath Anthony Davis level? And then you he's
got the ability hard to go from playing power forward
to small forward to small forward to point guard. When
(01:07:54):
when Clay Thompson, if they want to go big, they
could play him played Thompson Anthony Davis, and then they
have two guys that can play power forward and center Dallas.
Dallas can match up with Houston and and and Kyrie Irvin.
(01:08:15):
I don't care what universe, there's not another point guard
that can handle the ball like he does. When when
he starts to play on the wing and Kyrie is
up top, guard your neck and your head because there's
gonna be a lot threat.
Speaker 1 (01:08:31):
So he is the overwhelming favorite at minus one eighty
for the Rookie of the Year, I would say, yeah,
Edgecombe from Baylor, He's second. Trey Johnson, Ace Bailey, Dylan Harper,
Ken kannellp Kannepple, Hassan Yang, Jeremiah Fears.
Speaker 3 (01:08:51):
Who I really really like.
Speaker 2 (01:08:52):
I think he's gonna be really good kid out of.
Speaker 1 (01:08:54):
Oklahoma, Yeah, and while Walter Clayton Junior, the kid from Florida.
Those are some guys that I will throw a little
change on because of the talent that they bring. Yes,
Cooper Flag obviously overwhelming favorite for it.
Speaker 3 (01:09:09):
But to learn all the plays at point.
Speaker 2 (01:09:12):
Guard in at forward, I don't know if if I've
ever heard anything like that.
Speaker 1 (01:09:18):
As the season get closer, because the NBA tips off
October the twenty first, we will do our preseason award winners.
Speaker 3 (01:09:27):
We'll go there.
Speaker 1 (01:09:29):
Coming up next, we're going to close out the show
and send you to Dan Patrick. But first we've got
Thursday Night Football, Major League Baseball, and ice Cube Baby
and commercials to stop running here pretty soon, folks, right
here on the Morning Kickoff on Sports Radio AM thirteen
hundred The Zone. Welcome back to the morning Kickoff right
(01:09:50):
here on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred to Zone. If
you thought I forgot about you, I did not. Now
it's your chance to win a pair of tickets to
go see Alice Cooper and Judas Priest October the twenty
fifth at the Germania Insurance Amphitheater. All you got to
do is get over to AM thirteen hundred The Zone,
on the always free iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 3 (01:10:08):
Tap that red microphone and leave.
Speaker 1 (01:10:11):
The word four four is your word of the day
to Gwynepera. Tickets to go see Alice Cooper and Judas Priest. Also,
if you're not busy tomorrow, make sure you get over
to the Yellow Rose and you can enjoy bone in
Rebbi sixteen ounce Angus steak and with the side. They
also have steak and lobster all week long, so get
(01:10:32):
over there as well. And by the way, folks, I
know ice Cube has been playing on our commercials every
day about fifteen times a day. Today's the day ice
Cube is in town. He will be performing at the
Moody Center. I don't think tickets are still available, but
you might want to go over there and check because
ice Cube will be in town and.
Speaker 2 (01:10:54):
That is the last time you hear the commercial exactly.
Speaker 3 (01:10:57):
I know. Everybody's like, man, how many times y'all run themmercial?
A lot?
Speaker 1 (01:11:01):
They want you all to understand before him hop, homies
got shot. That was ice Cube right there. You know
it's a bar. That's how they call them bars. Speaking
of bars, Mike Tomlin has been having them bars here lately.
He is mad at the Cleveland Browns for making a
trade within the division in a position where they are
(01:11:21):
struggling at the quarterback position, and uh, we talked. We
talked about it yesterday. But tonight he gets to get
on the field and they're five and a half point
favorite over the Cincinnati Bengals.
Speaker 3 (01:11:34):
The only problem is Joe.
Speaker 1 (01:11:37):
Flacco has beaten this team multiple times in his career.
He knows the Steelers defense, he knows the weaknesses, and
I think that is why one Mike Tomlin was very
very upset about that. The game is seven to fifteen
kickoff on Amazon Prime. The Bengals one of the cheapest
(01:11:58):
teams in the NFL.
Speaker 3 (01:12:00):
We've all talked about that.
Speaker 1 (01:12:02):
But the good thing for if you're a Cincinnati Bengals fan,
the good thing is your wide receivers T Higgins and
Jamar Chase now have a quarterback that can get him
the ball. He's got experience. That's why the Steelers are upset.
Speaker 2 (01:12:18):
And those coverages and you can dictate where the ball
is going to go before it even the ball is
snapped on exactly.
Speaker 1 (01:12:24):
So this is going to be an interesting look for the.
Speaker 3 (01:12:30):
Steelers, which mark you took them tonight? I still think
Steelers are going to win that game.
Speaker 2 (01:12:35):
Five and a half. It's a lot of points. It's
a lot of points. Why are you talking like that?
Speaker 3 (01:12:41):
Because I'm down with the Steelers.
Speaker 1 (01:12:43):
You know, I'm kind of liking what I'm seeing from
the Steelers being patient, not trying to do too much.
DK Metcalf being a guy that is making plays around
the goal line, you get fire, moveth at the tight
end position. Jalen Warren running the ball. And you was
asking about game one, how's your fantasy team doing?
Speaker 3 (01:13:03):
By the way, for one? Pretty good? Right? Because why
because of you? Because of me?
Speaker 2 (01:13:09):
Because I'm because you and Marcus told me. Listen, man,
you gotta stop picking with your heart and pick the
best players available that.
Speaker 3 (01:13:20):
Regardless of regardless of what team they Man, it's loyalty, dog,
it's loyalty.
Speaker 2 (01:13:27):
Like I just you know, being a Cowboys fan, I
could not pick anybody that play.
Speaker 3 (01:13:31):
In the East. And what did that do for you? Before?
I never won? I never won.
Speaker 2 (01:13:39):
I was horrible, horrible, and I realized how the game
is supposed to be played. But it's still it still hurts,
and I wish that I had done a League of Fandom.
It's too late now, But I have those mid season
ones where you can I'm I'm gonna wait till next season.
Next next season, I'm gonna do one league that I'm
(01:14:02):
only picking the people I like again, and then of
course I'll come in dead last again.
Speaker 3 (01:14:09):
But you're not understanding.
Speaker 2 (01:14:10):
But I'll know that at least I did it just
to appease myself.
Speaker 3 (01:14:14):
That's a very limited team, only players you like. Yeah,
that's short list. I might get eleven. I might get
eleven players. This is this is a lot. You might
get eleven. You might get a leven. Baby. Look, here's
the deal.
Speaker 1 (01:14:30):
When you're when you're doing these types of things, you
still get a chance to understand that when you're playing this,
you got to take the emotions out of it because
there's financial ramifications on this. Yeah, you playing in the
league that you paid money to play in, but you do.
Speaker 3 (01:14:51):
All you doing is donating. That's crazy.
Speaker 1 (01:14:54):
So thanks bringing that to my attention as I sit
here to you today, which is why I was curious
to it. In one of my fantasy leagues, I am
three and three. In the other fantasy league, all I
did was donate. I am straight up. I am straight
up in last place. But if I tell you this team,
(01:15:18):
and I ask you this question, and you tell me
how am I losing?
Speaker 3 (01:15:23):
You'll be like, how are you losing?
Speaker 6 (01:15:25):
Well?
Speaker 2 (01:15:26):
I know, I think is because you you had a
lot of people injury. I would like to think that
I was told I said I was four one, I'm five.
I was told I was told to give my fantasy
team to my son and let him do it.
Speaker 3 (01:15:44):
Let him. He's like, are you still gonna be hard
headed and not let your son do this?
