Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome back to our number two of the morning kickoff
right here on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
I am Mike Harball Hart.

Speaker 1 (00:06):
We got the world's strongest man in WWE Hall of
Famer Mark Henry, and of course my guy Khalil. In
our number one, we talked about the rosters that were
being set. Shout out to all the Texas Longhorns that
made teams and of course the Dallas Cowboys in Houston,
Texans kept some players as well, and one of them

(00:26):
is Deuce Vun made the.

Speaker 2 (00:29):
Cowboys roster very happy for him.

Speaker 1 (00:31):
Of course, we heard from coach Sart talking about what
it's like to be cocky and not to brash.

Speaker 2 (00:40):
You can be cocky, you can.

Speaker 1 (00:41):
Expect to win, but you got to be out there
handling your business. And of course we heard from Danny
Davis of the Austin American Statesman. But right now I
want you to hear from coach j Norville. Jay Norville
had his press conference on Monday as well, and one
of the things that Jay was talking about, how is
this Texas football team and the expectations of being able

(01:04):
to come down and play the University of Texas and
I'm just really pleased.

Speaker 3 (01:10):
With where we're at right now, but I'm anxious to
get going and looking forward to this first opportunity. Obviously,
we're going to Austin to play the Longhorns. It's exciting
opportunity for us as a team and a program. Were
from the Mountain West Conference. We're very proud of our

(01:31):
league and for us to take and represent our league
down there and Austin is a great opportunity for all
of us to kind of showcase what we are capable
of doing. We've got a lot of players from the
state of Texas. I think we got at least nineteen
from the state of Texas. Many of our starters are

(01:53):
born in the state of Texas, and over half of
our staff is either from Texas or coach to Texas, so.

Speaker 2 (02:00):
We're very familiar. We recruit down there a lot, and
that's some good stuff right there.

Speaker 1 (02:07):
Nineteen players from that squad, including their starting quarterback, is
from the state of Texas. So regardless that they're playing
Colorado State, there's gonna be a lot of fans from
the state of Texas representing that school.

Speaker 4 (02:23):
Okay, I've calmed down just a little bit. Okay, so
I'm I'm gonna, you know, be on point. Every coach
that comes to Austin that has coached here before, they
do look forward to coming back because they want to

(02:44):
stick it to Texas. Oh yeah, for sure, they're gonna
get Texas is gonna get the best shot that Colorado
State has to offer.

Speaker 5 (02:54):
Absolutely, and.

Speaker 4 (02:58):
I feel like, in my heart of hearts, I know
it's not gonna be good enough because of the talent
of the team. But if Texas comes that in this
game early and does not seek to destroy them, they're
gonna look embarrassed, like they like somebody pulled the egg

(03:19):
on top of their head. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (03:21):
I think too.

Speaker 1 (03:23):
You know, in these particular moments, its game one, It's
game one of the season. If you go back and
look at last week's games, in game zero, there wasn't
a lot of dominance in any of the games. Teams
were favored by thirty five points twenty seven and a half,
and it got close. Because you still, this is the

(03:44):
first time you're playing against a different opponent. Yeah, so
you've been going against your team every single day. And
I do believe iron sharpens iron, and I think Texas
has elite talent at every position guys are five stars.
Know when you said this to me off air yesterday,
three stars look like five stars in some instances, you

(04:06):
can't tell the difference if you are coaching them up
properly and they're doing the things that they're supposed to do.
But when you're coming in to play a team like
Texas and the words that are being said too said
team to come in and play a team like Texas,
everybody's up. And don't forget a lot of these guys

(04:26):
are older too. So these are freshmen, like you said
the other day, peeing down their leg. These are grown
men that are looking at an opportunity to get themselves
on a film against an elite team. So they're going
to be locked in, ready to go. So it's up
to Texas again. Texas's biggest opponent is Texas.

Speaker 4 (04:46):
Most of the time, every position coach right now is
telling their players, hey, some of y'all have dreams and
aspirations about being a pro. Yes, if you won't that opportunity,
this is the big stage you're gonna be on. Absolutely,
we're not gonna play nobody else on our schedule, including Colorado,

(05:07):
where we're gonna get the kind of notoriety that we would.

Speaker 5 (05:09):
Get against Texas.

Speaker 1 (05:11):
Absolutely, so do this for yourself exactly, even.

Speaker 4 (05:16):
If you are going into business for yourself, go into
that business one hundred miles an hour. If you make mistakes,
you make mistakes, we'll pull you if you're hurting the team.

Speaker 5 (05:29):
But I need effort, and.

Speaker 4 (05:31):
I guarantee you that that'll resonate with a lot of players.

Speaker 1 (05:34):
Yeah, and that's what it's supposed to be about. But
one of the areas of concern for this uh Colorado
State football team is the running game. A lot of
teams don't run well against the University of Texas. But
coach Norvelle, who is trying to get that running game going,
talked about the areas of improvement.

Speaker 3 (05:55):
Control of football. We want to get some explosive runs
run in the football. I think that something that we
feel like is missing is a missing element in our
team right now. You know, we played with a walk
on running back all last year, so we didn't have
a lot of pop in our running game. And we've
got a lot of good players back there now and

(06:17):
so we're healthier at that position. We're more experienced in
our offensive line, and let's face it, we were the
number one passing team in our league, but we need
to be better in the run game. So that's an
area where we we have to show some improvement.

Speaker 1 (06:34):
So they got a red shirt freshman named Justin Marshall
and at the running back position, and another grad football
player in Kobe Johnson. Both guys five to ten for
Marshall and five nine for Johnson. So these are two
guys that they are going to try to hit some
home runs with, but I'm not sure if they're going

(06:56):
to be able to do so as they try to
pablished the run. If that's the case and that that's
what they're trying to do, it's gonna be a real
long day for them. As he said, when you llowed
the conference in passing yards last year, but they knew
they couldn't run right, And now they brought in different
linemen as well.

Speaker 4 (07:14):
Right, And I told you hard I looked at the
running backs last year, and you know, some of those
guys might have had trouble beating me in the forty.

Speaker 2 (07:22):
Yeah, that's why he said they were walk on.

Speaker 5 (07:25):
And they will walk on guys. I didn't realize it.

Speaker 4 (07:27):
Yeah, you know, But now you bring in some scholarship
you know level guys, It's going to be a different game.
But I must say this with all the love in
my heart for Coast North.

Speaker 5 (07:43):
L like Texas strong suit last.

Speaker 4 (07:47):
Year was stopping to run, absolutely and you you would
be putting your team at a deficit if you tried
to run just to prove a point. Well, I think
to those two guys that plugged it up are gone,
so they want to see if Texas can rebound after
those guys.

Speaker 5 (08:04):
So I would feel disrespected right now.

Speaker 2 (08:07):
You should.

Speaker 4 (08:07):
I was out for Collin, you should, and you said, oh,
you run against me, you should, and that was right.
And we hope that that is where they are.

Speaker 1 (08:19):
I hope that that defensive line looks at this opportunity
to the mark was already set for you. This has
been a long time since Sean Rogers and Casey Hampton
were in there stopping to run.

Speaker 2 (08:33):
We had some dogs.

Speaker 1 (08:34):
In there, Stevie Lee and my boy, Tim Crowder and
all those guys. Larry Dell, you had those guys, but
that space.

Speaker 2 (08:41):
Was out of there for a long time.

Speaker 1 (08:44):
Last year those guys showed up, we didn't know what
to expect because they weren't doing that before. So now
and to your point, I'm thinking, I gotta turn it on.

Speaker 2 (08:56):
This is my opportunity.

Speaker 1 (08:58):
As I said, Colorado State guys are looking to do
some special things because this is their.

Speaker 2 (09:02):
Opportunity to put something on tape. The same thing goes
for the Texas defensive line.

Speaker 1 (09:07):
Put something on tape where people are gonna keep coming
back to watch you.

Speaker 2 (09:11):
Yeah, paying attention to that.

Speaker 5 (09:12):
So burning were talking to you.

Speaker 2 (09:14):
It is may Mama need some new shoes. Just got married,
just got married.

Speaker 1 (09:20):
And when we come back, we got Drew Martin of
the University of Texas talking all things that happened outside
of the stadium and some of it inside as well.
