right into it. Coach Sark met with the media yesterday.
And as we get closer and closer, because guess what, folks,
we are twenty four days, twenty four days away from
Texas and Ohio state number one versus number two in
the preseason polls for the first time ever. Kicking off

(02:27):
the season at high known Eastern time eleven o'clock Central time.

Speaker 3 (02:32):
Goodness, gracious woo.

Speaker 1 (02:34):
Coach Shark met with the media talking about practice, seeing
how things are going, and he's gonna give us an
injury and update. But let's hear from coach Sark as
he addressed the media yesterday.

Speaker 4 (02:45):
All righty, really, it's been a good first six practices
for us. You know, we had the first four day block,
we took Sunday off and then came back Monday and
Tuesday with really competitive, tough practices.

Speaker 5 (03:01):
You know, yesterday was half pads.

Speaker 4 (03:03):
Today it was our first day in full pads, and
we pushed the guys. You know, it was it was
a long heart practice in the heat. I thought we responded,
you know, really well with with a lot of different
aspects of the game that we've gotten, uh, gotten ourselves into.

Speaker 5 (03:18):
We're obviously we're.

Speaker 1 (03:19):
Through Oh wow, wow, I mean that was abrupt. How
about how I'm like, whoa what wait to wait a minute?
What did we do to deserve that?

Speaker 3 (03:35):
Sure?

Speaker 1 (03:35):
But he also gave us an injury update as well
about some of the players and gave us that bad news.

Speaker 4 (03:43):
Yeah, no, yeah, Andre is sustained a season any injury
and and hate that for him.

Speaker 5 (03:48):
You know, he's been he's.

Speaker 4 (03:49):
Been working hard to get himself in a competitive state
and so it will get him healthy. We'll support him,
just like we've done a lot of other guys who've
had injuries in the past. You know the point, you know,
to try to go on the portal and find a tackle,
you know, I might as well.

Speaker 5 (04:05):
Go to the co op. I might have a better
shot over there. So no, I'm not I'm not going
to try to do that.

Speaker 1 (04:09):
Yeah, because our guy Eric Henry asked them, are you
thinking about getting into the portal to try to go
find offensive tackle? I'm like I was personally thinking, and
it's a little late to do that as far as
six practices in and trying to go get that. He
say better, he got a better chance of going to
the co op and find it, and he does trying

(04:31):
to get out there now. But just like anything else,
you want to understand what it's all about, how things
are broken down, and what are your options, What are
your options going to be at right tackle No.

Speaker 4 (04:45):
I mean, yeah, we're looking at different options and different people.
You know, brand is a heck of a player. We're
excited about him. But we've move Brandon around some too. Again,
we've never tried to be just a one dimensional group,
especially early on the first couple of weeks of train
We're always mixing people around because I don't know what
might happen in week four of the season, or week eight,
or week twelve or week fifteen. You know, this is

(05:07):
a long long way to go, so we got to
keep developing our people. I mean, we've got plenty of
good people in that room and it will be okay.

Speaker 1 (05:15):
So let me ask you this, Mark, because of some
of the things that we've talked about before, the cross training,
the situations that we have seen in Coach Shark and
his team have talked about this often, the more and
more you cross train with players, the better off your
team is going to be. You're gonna hear about players

(05:36):
moving from one position to another position.

Speaker 3 (05:39):
We've seen it happen.

Speaker 1 (05:41):
We saw what John a was able to do and
become a Thorpe Award winner. We've seen offensive lineman Trevor Gooseby,
for example, right now being able to go from right
tackle to left tackle and now solidifying himself as one
of the top freakish athletes in college football. But then
you also look at what has happened with Trey More.

(06:05):
Trey Moore came in as a defensive end and now
he's playing the week side linebacker where he's been able
to get off the line of scrimmage and rush freely.
So there are some things that if you understand, if
you're a football player, they're gonna find a way to
get you on the field.

Speaker 3 (06:19):
Right, you're gonna get on the field, I mean the
whole point.

Speaker 2 (06:22):
Crussfit crush training is good in the sense that you
get to learn multiple you get to learn to playbook,
you get to learn it from a different perspective. But
it's size and length matters when you play tackle to
guard right, Like you know, having an eight inch armspan
gives you another four or five inches to keep somebody

(06:45):
at bay when they would normally just try to get
into your chest. So you want to be able to
extend away from people at tackle. You gotta have that.
You don't need a guard. It's hard, it's hard to
I mean, you can do it, but I wouldn't rather
have a guy six six sixty seven with real long

(07:06):
arms playing tackle than a six three six two three
hundred pound guard with short arms.

Speaker 3 (07:13):
Right, It is not it's not as helpful.

Speaker 1 (07:17):
Yeah, And what they've been able to do, and talking
about Brandon Baker, there's a lot of guys that are
gonna need to step up, and one of those guys
is gonna be Nick Brooks. He's somebody that has to
step up, the true fresh woman. There's a lot that
Texas has been working with to get to this point.
As you and I know, football is a contact sport

(07:38):
and we'll hear from Sark about that a little bit later.
You have to have those guys be able to have
that type of leverage and being able to have that
type of versatility to be in in this ball game
because there's gonna be some bruises that people don't see
and you're gonna have to get out there and play.

(07:59):
But a couple of players that he was talking about
as well as Trey wing and Trey Wingo, Ryan Wingo
and DJ Campbell, both of those guys have been dealing
with some injuries as well, and Coach Start brought those
guys up to see when they're gonna be back on track.

Speaker 5 (08:16):
Yeah, uh, DJ's back.

Speaker 4 (08:18):
Ryan's probably one more day, you know, we're gonna give
him one more day Tomorrow off and then he'll be
back rolling on Thursday. So that'll be great. The interior
d Lineman, Man, we're deep. That's probably the biggest thing
I can say about that group right now. And we're
playing a lot of guys, which has been good.

Speaker 5 (08:37):
You know, we as you guys know, a.

Speaker 4 (08:38):
Lot of our practices will two spot where it might
be the ones and the threes on this field and
the twos and the fours on the upper field, and
then we'll go ones in the twos on the.

Speaker 5 (08:47):
Lower field, threes and the fours on the upper field.

Speaker 4 (08:49):
But we've had two of our six practices where we've
been on one field and we're going ones, twos, threes, ones,
twos threes, and that is when I really feel our
deck because it's it's really interchangeable. A lot of those
guys are are are pushing and trying to, you know,
get more and more playing time.

Speaker 5 (09:08):
So I've been I've been impressed.

Speaker 4 (09:09):
I've been impressed with with Marod Watson, you know, Cole
Brovard I've seen a step out of him, Hero Canoe.

Speaker 5 (09:16):
Alex January's you know, stepped his game up from where
he was a year ago.

Speaker 4 (09:20):
Uh Levon you know, and what he's bringing with what
he has going. So we're fortunate in that room right now.
We've got great depth. I don't think we're gonna have
to overuse guys again.

Speaker 5 (09:32):
My my biggest thing is do we have enough depth?

Speaker 6 (09:35):
Man?

Speaker 4 (09:35):
When you look at our team and I and I
think about January as much as I'm thinking about August thirtieth,
I'm thinking about this, this journey we're trying to go on,
and and hey, football is a contact sport, and things
happen in our sport. Unfortunately, is we found out with
Andre Kojo and the fact that we have the depth
on the old line right now, the same with the
interior defensive line, the same with the tight ends. You know,

(09:58):
that's why we have to keep trying to develop these
young players. You know, whether it's a Justice Terry or
Josiah Sharma, we got to keep bringing these guys along.

Speaker 5 (10:07):
They're probably not finished products today.

Speaker 4 (10:09):
If we were playing today, probably not a great chance
they would play. But over time they can earn they're
going to earn their way. That's why we got to
keep developing these players and not just get in the
game plan mode.

Speaker 5 (10:20):
We got to keep working with our young players too.

Speaker 3 (10:23):
Wow. He did a great job of filling that room. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (10:27):
And you know, Cole Bivard and Travis Shaw, both of
those guys came from really good programs doing the most
sixty three three fifty both of them. Have you seen
Have you seen Bivard? He's ridiculous.

Speaker 3 (10:45):
I'm like, how can you be three hundred and fifty
pounds and have all that muscle like that? Like, he
does not look like a three hundred and fifty pounds guy.
He may not be now, he may be more of
you know, three thirty three thirty five, but man, that's
what a big Yeah. And that's the thing too that
you start to look at and you're.

Speaker 1 (11:04):
Like, yeah, Texas has done their job on the defensive line,
but now the question is how deep is that offensive
line going to be able to roll? We're just getting
started on a way back Wednesday edition of The Morning
Kickoff coming up.

Speaker 3 (11:20):
We'll hear more from coach Sartin.

Speaker 1 (11:22):
And there are some things that are out there that
people really don't understand about the Teddy Bridgewater signing. I'll
explain in the Hard Knocks Life segment. We'll also talk
top rivalries in college football. To close out our number
one What a great day for a way back Wednesday
edition of The Morning Kickoff right here on Sports Radio

(11:44):
AM thirteen hundred. It is the countdown to kickoff twenty
four days until the Texas Longhorns travel to Columbus, Ohio
to take on the number two ranked Ohio State buck Guys.

Speaker 3 (11:57):
Eleven am kickoff, but you.

Speaker 1 (11:59):
Can hear the game right here on Sports Radio AM
thirteen hundred to Zone and always free on the iHeartRadio app.
We'll also tell you where we'll be for the pregame
show as we kick off the football season. But as
you know, school is about to start and we want
to give a shout out. I told you about the
three teachers yesterday and we focused on Margaret Mendoza Alaverez.

(12:21):
So right now we're going to focus on Morgan Mehan
Klein from Science Tech Middle School Wayside Science Tech Middle School.

Speaker 3 (12:31):
She has done an unbelievable job, whether.

Speaker 1 (12:33):
It's baking treats for the staff, working with the scholars
after school for their art club, helping theater with props,
and leading her sixth grade team. She's always going above
and beyond. She worked that Wayside for five years and
has made lifelong connections with the students and their families.
She's always always make sure that the students feel like

(12:58):
they're being seen, they're safe and special.

Speaker 3 (13:00):
In the art class.

Speaker 2 (13:01):
She empathizes, empathizes, epitimizes, yes, that word.

Speaker 1 (13:11):
Yeah, she epitomizes, all means all motto at the Wayside
is what she lives by.

Speaker 3 (13:20):
So shout out to.

Speaker 1 (13:21):
Miss Morgan Mihan Klein as she has continued to help
those kids.

Speaker 3 (13:28):
And we'll be doing that all week.

Speaker 1 (13:30):
So if you want to nominate a teacher, all you
got to do is leave us a voicemail or contact
us at iHeart Media. All right, Mark, We're going to
continue the conversations with coach Shark as he met with
the media yesterday and talked a lot about this football
team and as you know, as we get closer and
closer to the action, he's really trying to dive into

(13:52):
this football team and see where they are. And one
of the things that he wanted to talk about was
how he's going to approach the scrimmages.

Speaker 4 (14:01):
Well, I don't know if we adjust our scrimmages so
much early in camp, because we need that information, we
need to find out, we need to we need to
give guys opportunities to tackle, because that's the only way
we can gain information on guys tackling and guys getting tackled.
You know, we tackled for you know, a portion of
practice today, which we needed to do.

Speaker 5 (14:22):
And so there'll be portions of the scrimmage.

Speaker 4 (14:24):
That that have been in the past where we tackle,
and they'll be portions of the scrimmage where'll be.

Speaker 5 (14:28):
Thud and we'll stay up.

Speaker 4 (14:30):
But that that information is needed for the coaching staff
and for the players.

Speaker 5 (14:35):
It's it's you have to do.

Speaker 4 (14:37):
It because we have to play a real game, you know,
August thirtieth two, and we're gonna have to get some
real people on the ground or that could be a
long day and we're gonna get.

Speaker 5 (14:46):
Tackled by good people.

Speaker 4 (14:47):
And so you have to practice football to get good
at football. But again, once we kind of get into
those last couple of weeks, getting closer to the game,
we'll start to pair back on that and then we'll
get into our end season mode, and you know, we
adjusted that last year and once we got going, I
thought it was fairly effective for us.

Speaker 1 (15:04):
The way that we did it, it was fairly effective
because Texas ended up going on and playing for the
semifinals and then get ready to have that rematch of
the semifinals. But one of the other things that they
were talking about, what does a full pad practice look like?
What are you expecting to see when these guys go
head up and start to hit for real?

Speaker 4 (15:26):
Well, you know, I think one, you know, your pad
level is so important, and you can have good pad level,
not in pads or even in half pads, but when
you get to full pads, like you really got to
have good pad level because the next guy Crossby's probably
can have even that good better pad level, So you
got to be great from that aspect. I think that

(15:50):
we're always looking for contact courage. You know, this is
we play a contact sport, and then how do we
play when when some of those collisions occurred?

Speaker 5 (15:58):
And then are you over whelmed with the physicality of
the game. And that's it.

Speaker 4 (16:03):
I know that sounds like what's he talking about, But
sometimes when you're so consumed.

Speaker 5 (16:07):
With I want to be physical I want to be physical.
I want to be physical.

Speaker 4 (16:10):
Your spatial awareness of what's going on around you, you know, shrinks.
And we want to be a really smart team too.
As physical as we want to be, we want to
be really smart. We want to be really aware. Our
intenn has got to be up, our alert's got to
be up. We got to communicate at a really high level.
But if we're just so enamored with just you know,
crash test dummies. You know that that that doesn't work

(16:30):
for us. We've got to think really good and play physical.
So we're trying to combine those two.

Speaker 5 (16:35):
Things at once.

Speaker 3 (16:36):
Well do you think about that?

Speaker 2 (16:38):
I don't know, man, I think that a lot of
times we we we get into the toughness of everything
rather than the thinking of it. You know, Coach Sark
is always about how let's think everything out.

Speaker 1 (16:58):
Yeah, yeah, he's getting he's getting after it. I mean,
I understand what he was talking about about the pad
level too, because it's so easy for us to get
into a certain level with the pads when you're not
having to hit, But you got to be behind your pads.
You got to be able to maneuver the headspace that
you have to be in to understand where I need

(17:21):
to be in all of these situations and how do
I need to approach it.

Speaker 3 (17:25):
So for me, I thought that was a low man
is always going to win.

Speaker 2 (17:29):
So the lower you can establish your base and get
your hands on people, the more you handle the man
in front of you.

Speaker 3 (17:37):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (17:38):
And also you got to be reacquainted with being comfortable
in your pads.

Speaker 1 (17:42):
Yeah yeah, I mean you're running around the only problem
is they've been practicing with shoulder pads the whole time.
The main thing is being able to find that level
when it's full speed, when you know you're about to
get hit. You got to be able to adjust and
know where you're supposed to be in with a clue.

Speaker 2 (18:03):
When when everybody had scrimmages, like real scrimmages, you get
to get that action. But now we don't have that,
So you got to figure that out as you go
geinst your own people, and then people get hurt because
they not used to it.

Speaker 1 (18:19):
Well, that's why he's trying to make sure that the
fundamentals are in place. You got to be able to
go through the fundamental work of it first before you
can get there. It's almost like what you do with
the weights. You can't run in there and just start
throwing up weights. No, No, you got to have technique. And
that is why it's always important to understand when you're
going through these practices, it's not going through the motion,

(18:42):
it is actual focus on what you're supposed to be doing,
because that is what you're supposed to be doing.

Speaker 3 (18:48):
That's it. There's nothing else going on.

Speaker 1 (18:50):
Focus on how you get to your pad level and
making sure that you do things the right way.

Speaker 3 (18:56):
Yes, it's football, it's contact sport.

Speaker 1 (18:57):
It people are going to get injured, but you have
to be able to go about it the right way
because a nick here is different than a true injury
like they're dealing with right now.

Speaker 3 (19:07):
Right with the offensive lineman.

Speaker 1 (19:09):
One of the biggest stories right now has been about
how is Mosley learning the new wide receiver position, because
you know, you're coming from Stanford and doing the things
you were doing there, but now you're dealing with coach
Sart and the way he goes about his business.

Speaker 3 (19:25):
And that was one of the things that he was
asked yesterday.

Speaker 4 (19:28):
Yeah, emmittt I'm impressed with you know, he is a
bigger guy than you think, even for me. You know,
I I you know, I have to remind myself he's
two hundred and ten pounds, okay, And so the fact
that he's very smart, he's got extremely strong hands, and
he's probably faster than I think too. Everything about him

(19:51):
is probably better than you would think. We're fortunate with him.
The system that he played in at Stanford I think
helps him in his train position with us because it's
there's similarities to the way it was taught conceptually. I
think I spoke about this last time. As opposed to
maybe Matt Golden. You know, when Matt came to us

(20:11):
from Houston, Matt was coming from an air raid system,
totally different way. The way that they teach the offense
and the way that you learn a system and nothing.

Speaker 5 (20:21):
Every system is different, all right. But when it's like.

Speaker 4 (20:25):
You live in the US and then somebody drops you
off in France and you got to learn French on
the fly.

Speaker 5 (20:30):
That's tough. That's tough to do.

Speaker 4 (20:32):
As opposed to to somebody who maybe is living in
Canada and then moves to the US, it's not that
big of a difference. They probably got some similarities. So Emmitt,
it's probably a little easier for him than maybe it
was for Matt when Matt first got here.

Speaker 1 (20:47):
Yeah, it's it's interesting because of the way that things
are being run and now Code Sark lets you know that, Hey,
there's some guys that pick it up right away and
there's some guys that have to take a little bit
of time to be able to do.

Speaker 3 (21:00):
The first thing he mentioned was how smart.

Speaker 1 (21:02):
You were, Yeah, Stanford, I mean, yeah, you guys, everybody, Yeah,
you they ain't They're not lowering their standards just for you,
but they're right there. They're on the edge when it
comes to that. So that's impressive to see. We'll hear
more from Coach Sark at the top of the hour,
but coming up next in The Hard Knocks Life, I

(21:23):
want to talk about Teddy Bridgewater. Yes, he signed a
new contract, but there's more to the story that we
didn't get a chance to touch on, and we will
when we come back to a way back Wednesday edition
of The Morning Kickoff right here on Sports Radio AM
thirteen hundred The Zone. Welcome back to the Morning Kickoff

(21:44):
right here on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone.
Mike Harball, Hard's World Strongest Man w W Hall of
Famer d Mark Henry and of course we got our.

Speaker 3 (21:53):
Guy Marcus behind the boards.

Speaker 1 (21:55):
And if you missed any part of the show, get
over to the podcast page and you will be able
to hear all the great interviews that we've had this
week already, and of course we're going to continue these conversations.
As we mentioned yesterday, we talked a little bit about
Teddy Bridgewater and his return to the NFL. He is
signing a one year deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

(22:19):
To be let's be honest, he's coming in to be
the backup for Baker Mayfield. Baker Mayfield needs a good backup,
and Teddy Bridgewater, somebody who has been around the game
for quite some time, has done an unbelievable job in
his career and probably would have been, as I said yesterday,
Minnesota's QB one for quite some time if he never

(22:41):
had that knee injury. But Teddy two gloves is one
of the great guys in the NFL and has always
been that guy. Doesn't rock the boat, not a prima donna,
just does what he's supposed to do and get things done.
But I want to go back to his high school
coaching time. He retired from the NFL and became the

(23:03):
head coach at his former high school. All they did
was go out there, get his team to the playoffs
and actually win a state championship. And that was Miami
Northwestern High School.

Speaker 4 (23:17):
And.

Speaker 3 (23:19):
He did an unbelievable job.

Speaker 1 (23:20):
He did so much and did so good there that
they were excited about having him back. Well, during his
time at the high school, it was reported that he
has to deal with a suspension, And the reason why
he was dealing with a suspension was not because he

(23:41):
was getting kids to transfer into the school, not because
he was cheating or violating on the field activities. He
got in trouble for personally funding uber rides, meals and
recovery services for his players. Now he wasn't using school funds,

(24:06):
he wasn't skimming off the top. This was coming out
of his pocket for the well being of some of
his players that obviously had issues.

Speaker 2 (24:17):
Can we explain what the recovery part of that is?
Everything else? People understand. There's places where you can go
get an iva, you can get ice and cooling systems,
hyperbaric chambers, cryo, you name.

Speaker 1 (24:33):
It, yep, So they were he did this out of
his own pocket. Well, it was violating some of the
district's policies.

Speaker 3 (24:45):
Now you can look at it in a.

Speaker 1 (24:48):
Certain way of like, hey man, some people's service, some
people's issues are different than others. But again, he wasn't
using school funding, was not using anything that had to
do with taking away from what the district was giving him.
He just was able. He was able to afford it.

(25:10):
Thirty ubers is not a lot. Well, the other part
of it is, there's probably happening right here. It's probably
happening all over the place that some parent may have
access of money and be able to help.

Speaker 3 (25:28):
Help the family out, help a kid out, because that's
the point. You're helping the kid. Yep. I think the
problem comes because he's the coach. But what doesn't matter.

Speaker 2 (25:39):
There's teachers that go in their rooms and they spend
money out of their own pocket to put all those
signs up on the wall, a lot of teaching that
and they go buy school supplies, school supplies for those
kids because they know the kid's gonna come to school
on the first day and not have what they need
for success. You're gonna criticize the people, man, Come on, man, Yeah,

(26:02):
it's it's one of those situations that we we live
in a time that it's okay to do this, but
if you're actually helping a kid get food, get to practice,
get to school, and now we're penalizing them for having
the ability to help out in this.

Speaker 3 (26:24):
Why are we doing fundraisers all the time?

Speaker 1 (26:26):
If we got a coach that can actually do things
like that, why are we having these types of conversations
all the time.

Speaker 3 (26:33):
And he's being punished for that.

Speaker 6 (26:36):
Ironically, he could do it now and it's no problem
for the for the.

Speaker 1 (26:40):
Thing exactly because he's donating, you know.

Speaker 3 (26:43):
And that is the thing.

Speaker 1 (26:45):
Too, that we've got kids now in college that are
getting paid a lot of money to do things. We're
getting kids that are getting nil to be able to
go wherever they want. I understand, before we were we
were in an age where you couldn't even buy a
kid a cheese if you saw him out, it would
be in violation of the NCAA rules.

Speaker 3 (27:04):
And I'm not.

Speaker 1 (27:04):
Criticizing the district for their rules because there was another
school that went through the same thing and it's not
a big story, it's not Teddy Bridgewater. But in this
particular situations, you have to understand that we we can
bring it to a vote, we can bring it into

(27:24):
a situation.

Speaker 3 (27:25):
To where did it help or hurt.

Speaker 1 (27:29):
I think the biggest thing too for us we have
to understand is like, these are our kids. These are
kids that are trying to do better in life, and
if they are receiving these types of things an uber
ride to make sure that they can get to and
fro their their neighborhoods in Miami Northwestern aren't that great.

(27:50):
It's a tough situation. The the recovery kids need to
learn these types of things and if he has the
ability to help them be at her so they can
come in and be focused at school because at the
end of the day, yes they play football and they
won a championship, but they still have to be academically

(28:11):
locked in to be able to get to the next level.
So why are we penalizing people for doing the right
thing and doing right by kids.

Speaker 3 (28:19):
I don't know. My wife was an educator.

Speaker 2 (28:22):
It was a teacher when she first you know, got
out of college and hard like the kids would show
up with no deodorant, no two packs, and she would
buy that stuff. And some of those environments that she
taught in were rough, I would go sit in her
class because people used to wild out. Yep, Like I

(28:44):
mean so like Teddy is in a situation where he's
trying to he's trying to help the situation. The parents
either can't do it or they won't do it. Yeah,
and he's being a surrogate. And to be penalized for
helping somebody else's kids does not and yees, he wants

(29:07):
them to show up to practice, and yes, he wants
to help him get home because you can't.

Speaker 3 (29:12):
Go to a three hour practice and then.

Speaker 2 (29:15):
Walk five miles home, or because you missed the buzz
right like help, come on, man, Like these these districts
got to.

Speaker 3 (29:24):
Understand, like change the rule.

Speaker 2 (29:28):
Just change it, because otherwise you're gonna have a whole
generation of kids that don't even play sports well.

Speaker 1 (29:37):
And that's why some of these things that we've been
talking about, especially in this day and age, you have
to look at it and say, what are we really
really worried about in these situations. So we'll see, we'll
continue those conversations, but coming up next, I want to
have a conversation about college rifle and which ones some

(30:02):
people think are the top ones out there. Right here
on a way back Wednesday edition of the Morning Kickoff
on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone. Now's your
time to get a chance to win a pair of
tickets to go see Pantera September to second at the
Germania Insurance Amphitheater.

Speaker 3 (30:19):
All you got to do is get over to that.

Speaker 1 (30:21):
iHeartRadio app search for AM thirteen hundred The Zone. You
should already have that, by the way, tap that red
microphone and leave the keyword of the day.

Speaker 3 (30:30):
What what is.

Speaker 1 (30:32):
The key word of the day for a chance to
win a pair of tickets to go see Pantera September
second at the Germania Insurance Amphitheater. Also, make sure you
listen to the Voice of the Texas Longhorns, Craig Way,
this afternoon from two to five, as Craig and Cam
Parker will be breaking down all the latest in Texas

(30:54):
football because he is the voice of Texas Football and
we are your home Texas Football. And the top of
the hour, we'll talk a little bit more about what
we heard from coach Sarkesian as he gets ready and
his team is twenty four days, twenty four days away
from taking on the Ohio State Bucks. Right here on

(31:18):
Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone. Right now, I
want to get into this conversation because we were talking
about college football, the expectations of college football, and what
we're all looking for in college football, and you know,
people always want to have these discussions about rivalries and

(31:38):
which rivalry is the best rivalry in sports, and oh,
you can't say this team is better than that one.
And just like anything else, you know as well as
I do, when you watch these rivalry games and the
expectations of these rivalry games.

Speaker 3 (31:54):
What's the first one that comes to mind for you?

Speaker 2 (31:57):
Mark Henry Well, I mean, being a Texan, the Red
River rivalry has always been like the rivalry for me.

Speaker 3 (32:09):
Okay, but being a kid that just watched TV.

Speaker 2 (32:14):
The cocktail game, the catail Party, the cocktail party, you know,
that's always one that stood out.

Speaker 1 (32:25):
The Iron Bowl, you know, always stood out. That would
be number two. The Iron Bowl would be number two.
The Hontail Party is this is by Fox Sports, by
the way, Number seven will be the Cocktail Party will
be the number seven game. The number one they believe
is Michigan and Ohio State. They believe that that is

(32:47):
number one. They believe that that is the number one matchup.
The number ten matchup is Mississippi State and Old Miss
It's the egg Bowl. I'm just like, what are we doing? No,
the egg Bowl is Alabama in and right right Auburn.
That is the egg Bowl. But this game right here

(33:09):
is like, okay, I don't think it's that big of
a rivalry. It may be in Mississippi, but it's not
something nationally that people will be watching.

Speaker 3 (33:18):
They have Texas and Texas A and M at number nine.

Speaker 1 (33:21):
I think because of what you said as a Texan,
this game should be.

Speaker 3 (33:25):
A lot higher. It should be higher.

Speaker 1 (33:28):
They also have the Holy War BYU and Utah that
comes in at number eight.

Speaker 3 (33:34):
Number seven.

Speaker 1 (33:35):
I did tell you Florida and Georgia number six Florida
State in Miami. Now that back in the day was
to watch. That was must watch, Like you had to
watch that number five, Notre Dame USC number four Navy
versus Army. That was number three Oklahoma versus Texas. This

(34:00):
is how they listened. I know it's Texas versus Oklahoma
from here, number two Alabama versus Auburn, and number one
Michigan versus Ohio State.

Speaker 3 (34:12):
I don't I don't like.

Speaker 6 (34:13):
It don't like recency bias.

Speaker 3 (34:16):
I think that's what it's more about, because.

Speaker 6 (34:18):
I think that's the reason why A and M in
Texas is so Texas and at you know what I
mean so low is because they just got back together.

Speaker 3 (34:28):
Well but I mean they played that game one hundred years.

Speaker 6 (34:31):
Yeah, but I'm saying recentcy biased because it's been so
long since the since the last time, well if you
don't count last year that they don't think.

Speaker 3 (34:41):
They don't think about it being the number one robbery,
like it is a top robbery. I don't know.

Speaker 2 (34:49):
I mean I agree to disagree, but I think that Texas,
the pageantry of it all the.

Speaker 3 (34:58):
Separated the stadium.

Speaker 2 (35:00):
Yeah, the house divided to you, red and orange split
right down. And now they over the last three or
four years, they have like three or four cops sitting
in the crowd like on the border.

Speaker 3 (35:14):
Yeah. Yeah, like I mean that's dangerous. I mean you
got when you.

Speaker 2 (35:17):
Got cops sitting in the crowd and it's something else.

Speaker 3 (35:20):
Yeah, I think they just want to be at the game. Yeah.
I would volunteer for that spot.

Speaker 1 (35:26):
So if you if you had the who, obviously you
would say Texas Oklahoma is your number one, that would
be number one. Would you put Michigan Ohio State number two?
Or would you put Alabama Auburn.

Speaker 3 (35:39):
I would go Alabama Auburn second. I love the Florida
State Miami matchup.

Speaker 1 (35:45):
I know it's a little bit different now because the
teams are not where they used to be when they
had all the talent. Now the talents spread so far out.
It's a it's a little bit different. Not the Dame USC.
It was always a good game.

Speaker 2 (36:00):
That was good one cause they always had people that
you wanted to see them in a big game situation,
rocket Ismael Yep, Reggie Bush, you know, like you always
you knew they were gonna have unbelievable talent on those teams.

Speaker 6 (36:16):
Let's not forget that run that they had all games
coming down to field goals.

Speaker 3 (36:21):
Which one are you talking about? Florida State Miami? Yeah? Yeah,
miss right either? Why right? Why left? Yep?

Speaker 1 (36:28):
So some of the honorable mentions are USC and U
c l A. Nebraska versus Oklahoma, Wisconsin versus Minnesota, Stanford
versus cal Oregon, Oregon State Oregon in West Virginia. I mean,
excuse me, University of Washington, University of Washington versus Washington State,
West Virginia versus pitt Ohio State and Penn State Florida FSU.

Speaker 3 (36:53):
That was a big time rivalry. That was always fun.

Speaker 2 (36:55):
Ohio State and Penn State is pretty that's big too.

Speaker 3 (37:01):
Yeah, why is it so low?

Speaker 1 (37:03):
And in Michigan and Michigan State that game as well.
Whenever you have the state games, it is something to
pay attention to as well. I believe that Texas and
Oklahoma to me, is the biggest rivalry. It was the
one that's always it was always a standalone. It was
the one that the nation was watching because it's on

(37:26):
that Saturday when was Army Navy. It wasn't Army Navy.
Oh they weren't number four. Number four.

Speaker 2 (37:32):
Yeah, that's a good spot because I mean that's that's
a country. Yeah, and that game is always you knew
it was gonna be a fundamental game. People gonna shake
hands before, they're gonna shake hands after.

Speaker 3 (37:45):
It was always a good sportsmanship game. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (37:48):
I look at these matchups and you know, by U
and Utah, unless you're on the West coast, I don't care, right,
unless you're a West coast person.

Speaker 3 (37:58):
That Mississippi State old man.

Speaker 1 (38:00):
I don't remember it ever being like a knockdown, dragout
football game. And maybe that's just because before we got
into the SEC, weren't really paying attention to those types
of games unless it was the athletic part of it.
With Georgia, the cocktail party you are talking about. Our
number one is in the books. Our number two is

(38:22):
just around the corner. We'll hear more from Coach Start
and we'll talk some more NFL as Jerry Jones is
getting on my last nerve shocker right here on the
Morning Kickoff on sports Radio AM thirteen hundred Zone.

Speaker 3 (38:38):
Welcome back to the.

Speaker 1 (38:38):
Morning Kickoff right here on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred.
Design Mike Harball, haarg, WWE Hall of Famer and World
Strongest Man d Mark Henry, and of course we've got
Marcus behind the boards and that number one.

Speaker 3 (38:50):
We talked about Coach Stark.

Speaker 1 (38:52):
He gave his openess statement, gave injury reports and updates
on all the players, and talked about some of his options.
He also talked about fool pads and scrimmages, and we
talked about Teddy Bridgewater, which my boy Kyle keeps saying,
this has got to be the dumbest thing and what
a failure in our system for taking care of the kids.

(39:13):
And we just finished up with the rivalries in college football.
But right now we want to talk a little bit
more about coach Sark. In the next segment, we'll talk
Jerry Jones. Do we have to Yeah, because we got
to give them like a update. There's so much that's
going on. And then of course we've got Mark Henry's
world strongest take.

Speaker 3 (39:33):
What can the folks look forward to? Mark? You know what? Man?
Uh We talked about it briefly yesterday.

Speaker 2 (39:40):
Not not playing people in a game because of money,
but paye just pay, just play the best talent.

Speaker 1 (39:48):
Right and so Marks that he will touch on that
as well. But right now I want you to hear
from coach Sark because this was an interesting question that
was asked yesterday by our guy Joe Cook of the
Inside Texas. You remember that there's always analysts that are
there and special assistants that have now been working for

(40:09):
the University of Texas, and he was asked about arch
manning Psyche over the last couple of years being the
third string quarterback and spending some time with those special
assistants to.

Speaker 3 (40:22):
Kind of ease his mind a little bit.

Speaker 5 (40:25):
I don't know a whole lot about those.

Speaker 4 (40:27):
You know, I try not to get too involved when
players are having meetings like that, you know, because that's
for them, you know, for guys, if you guys looking
for extra meeting time, extra work. You know that that
doesn't surprise me from Arch. You know, that's the way
he approaches the game. You know, he wants to be
really good. We had a walk through last night. That
thought was it was really good walkthrough after practice yesterday

(40:49):
and I was leaving the bubble and I turned around
and Arch at the offense and about half the offense
out there having his own walkthrough with those guys afterwards.
So that's that's the way he operates, you know, that's
just what he does. You know, he's always going to
try to find an edge. He's always going to try
to make sure that he's in the best space to
compete at a high level.

Speaker 1 (41:09):
That's what Arch does, That's how he rolls, That's how
his mindset is. And then again we talked a little
bit about this early in the week about him and
his family. They watch film, they break down things, they
want to be great at everything. They're never going to
be perfect, but they want it to be great. And

(41:30):
one of the things that was discussed as well was
Arch is he taking care of the football at so
far during camp and how important is it.

Speaker 4 (41:41):
It's been good, you know, I felt like yesterday was
probably not our best practice of taking care of the ball.

Speaker 5 (41:47):
Now, we've obviously got some guys that, you.

Speaker 4 (41:49):
Know, we've been working hard on defense about playing the
ball even better than we have in the past, and
you know, I think in the last two days Manny's
had a couple of picks which have been really good plays.
Jolan McDonald had a nice play today or roverson. So
we're playing the ball, in my opinion, better in the
air that we have in the past. You know, it's

(42:11):
one thing to guard your man, it's another to play
the ball. And I think we're talented enough to play
the ball, and we've been making that a huge emphasis.
But I don't think it's for you know, yesterday I
thought there was maybe a couple of poor decisions.

Speaker 5 (42:23):
It's not for lack of poor decisions.

Speaker 4 (42:25):
I think sometimes guys make it really good plays and
that's what competitive practices are all about.

Speaker 3 (42:30):
I love that. I love that these guys.

Speaker 1 (42:32):
We're hearing about them taking care of football, but we're
also hearing that the defensive backs are making plays on
the football. They're attacking the football, and that's one thing.
Having Dwayna keeneback might be pushing some of those guys
into that mindset.

Speaker 3 (42:49):
One of the biggest.

Speaker 1 (42:49):
Questions that Texas had over the last couple of season,
and it came down to their detriment in that game
against Ohio State, was being able to get the ball
in the end zone while they were in the red zone.
And the tight end position is going to be an
integral part of the success. They went out in the
transfer portal winning, got Jack injuries to come in and

(43:13):
play tight end. They've also had a bunch of guys
that are already in the program to play tight end.
And the part about being in that red zone and
being a safety net is so important. And Sark was
asked about the tight end work that is being done
in the red zone.

Speaker 5 (43:29):
Yeah, you know, we've.

Speaker 4 (43:30):
Been fortunate obviously the last you know, a couple of
years with JT and then Gunner and their impact in
the red area for US. I think it's always nice
to have a quality tight end in the red area
or two. You know, they're a little bigger body, a
little bigger frame. You know they can box people out
to make catches. You can high point balls. How many

(43:50):
times we see Gunner make catches above dvs where there's
not much a dB could do about that.

Speaker 5 (43:55):
It's always nice to have that, you know. I think
part of that yes was was with Jack. I don't
think that was the overriding theme. We wanted a guy.

Speaker 4 (44:05):
Who had really experienced, had played football at a high
level at the tight end position.

Speaker 5 (44:09):
A bonus to that was his ability to help us
in the red area.

Speaker 1 (44:12):
You gotta understand it gotta be able to get punched
that ball in. And if you got guys that are
big and can high point at the tight end position,
that that.

Speaker 2 (44:24):
Was a weakness. That was a weakness for Texas. Last
year you got one of those guys. Most of the
Texas receivers were speedy, you know, crafty wide receivers, really fast.
Now you got a tight end that's gonna be able
to handle that role. But you got Mosley who all
is going to be able to handle that role. And

(44:45):
from what I'm hearing, h Parker Livingstone is a high
point Maven, like you know that if you got.

Speaker 3 (44:54):
Three who do you double cover? Right? Who do you
play underneath?

Speaker 2 (44:58):
And if like you said, you won't guys that can
box you out, like all of these guys now able
to box out and high point balls. That's maybe Texas
doesn't have to just pound it in and run it
every time. But now I'm glad that the running game
is going to be better.

Speaker 3 (45:15):
This year, that's for sure.

Speaker 1 (45:17):
Jordan Washington is six six' four tight, end Uh Jack
injuries six' four. Tight end you Also Have shannon spencer
who is sixty seven, tight end.

Speaker 3 (45:31):
Big, boy yeah you got guys.

Speaker 1 (45:33):
That are, able to as, he says high point the
football at the tight end position and use their their
physical mass to move people out of. The way so
it is going to be you got to have that, safety,
Net right you got to have that safety blanket for
arch manning a guy that is new to. The position

(45:55):
AND what i mean by that is starting but understanding
that your, tight end your running backs are gonna be
your safety valve and they can make people missing.

Speaker 3 (46:07):
Space.

Speaker 2 (46:07):
Too well you you also got, To look i'm gonna
find who's the shortest guy and is my big guy
matched up. With him i'm going to give him the
ball at the highest point to make sure we get
to at least get a chance. At it, you know
if you, overthrow, them fine you live. The punt you
live to kick the extra point or kick the. Field

(46:29):
goal But like texans haven't had that element in. Their
game you think about it over the last. Three years,
You Know xavier word is not the. Tallest guy goldie
wasn't the. Tallest guy, mitchell was, you know six' three
and did a good. Job of that but, by the
way he's killing. It, right now yeah he's been doing real.

(46:52):
Good at camp but like those guys are still like
in the, Six three run i'm talking about these six,
to seven monsters.

Speaker 3 (46:59):
The Sixth monsters now texas has.

Speaker 1 (47:02):
Got, a Few yeah and TEXAS with as, i said
before does the playbook now Open?

Speaker 3 (47:09):
Up, for sark like is this?

Speaker 1 (47:12):
His his muse is this his Guy in arch manning
that can make every single throw that he? Can dial
up he CAN make the nfl throw with enough zip
and enough accuracy that now we see the whole Complement
of what sark.

Speaker 3 (47:33):
Has been masterminding.

Speaker 2 (47:36):
Sometimes you got to throw people off and where you
would do something maybe one of these analysts or one
of these other offensive minds, that you have you allow
them to help with that transition so they don't run
a play that you typically would run and the defense

(47:57):
would be prepared for throw wrinkles that people give yourself
an advantage by not just the physicality, of the game
but by the scheming.

Speaker 3 (48:10):
Of, the game well, and that's Why that's why i'm.

Speaker 1 (48:13):
Curious to it like when you sit and you think
about what we've seen from start and the love that
we've given him because he's a, great offensive mind and he,
has tendencies though and he has tendencies and sometimes you
got to go. Against those tendencies but now your tendencies
is because of what you've. Had to do now you

(48:37):
have more because now you have the element of the
run Game. With arch manning now you have those plays
in the red zone where, we're, Yelling, run, run, run
Run run and quinn would throw it as. Opposed to
running now you have a Quarterback in arch manning that
can supersede some of the i'm not gonna say bad

(48:59):
play calls or the ones that don't give you a
true chance of. Getting in there because of what you
said about the tendencies somebody Jumps aroute our kentucket and
run because he has that, Type of ability so do
you mask some of that to get?

Speaker 3 (49:13):
To that point and some of.

Speaker 1 (49:15):
This stuff too there's gonna be some deep shots down
the field that they're not gonna have to be in
the red zone right because of the accuracy. Down the field,
so we'll see we're. Excited, about it obviously we're gonna.
Continue these conversations we got so much more coming up Tomorrow,
with coach sarks so you can hear the rest of these.
Interviews as well but coming up next WE'RE. Gonna talk

(49:38):
nfl we got some news that we did not, want
to hear but we kind of knew we were gonna
hear it right here on the Morning Kickoff ON sports radio.

Speaker 3 (49:47):
Am Thirteen hundred the.

Speaker 1 (49:48):
Zone, twenty four days.

Speaker 3 (49:52):
Twenty four days you remember the? Number? Twenty four mark
who was? Your favorite? NUMBER twenty five.

Speaker 5 (49:57):
I can't remember.

Speaker 1 (50:00):
It's gotta be ron mcelvey the roster and posta get,
Out of here ron mcelvey. Twenty Four days tom landry
wore the. Number, Twenty Four, Oh? Greg Brown, SIR rob Parker, i.
Mean Parker, Sir rob Walker Joe, Bergeron Josh, Bonnie Jonathan,

(50:23):
brooks jonathan, brooks that's, right that's right and a. Couple
Other guys ricky stewart is the Current One, from chapel,
hill The Freshman but jonathan brooks was the one most
recently that had all the love because of his rushing
prowess and hopefully he gets better as we talk a
little BIT. About The nfl but ron m kelvey a

(50:46):
name the roster impostor to be able, to talk about
let's GET, into the nfl because there was some news
that came OUT Yesterday by nfl network that Was Talking
about Micah Parsons, and michaeh parsons who obviously has requested
a trade because he doesn't feel like he's being represented

(51:09):
Properly By. The dallas cowboys jared FEELS like if i
talk to you and we, agree on something it's supposed to.
Be that way by trying to backdoor and not get,
the agents involved that is the craziest thing. About this
Story talking to micah is not talking. To the Agent
talking to micah is not setting the precedent for the

(51:30):
rest of the league because you think that you can
talk to him.

Speaker 7 (51:35):
On the side let me, Talk. TO you michaeh i
think that you're going, to be Here be a cowboy for,
a LONG time but i want you to take it At,
this right JARED you know i want. To be here
that's what, it's, all about man this is what. It's,
all about oh we. Got a deal we. Got, a
deal no we ain't.

Speaker 1 (51:52):
Got NO deal but i want you TO Hear from
nfl network and the thought process about. This whole journey
and now It's seems, tas cowboy fans this could be.

Speaker 3 (52:03):
Bad for us how do You Think the mecca parsons
situation Plays? OUT in, DALLAS a.

Speaker 8 (52:08):
Well i think thirty one teams are trying to figure
out how to. MAKE it work, i DON'T think and.

Speaker 9 (52:13):
I don't know i don't know why. THE hold, up,
i mean look we've seen This from the cowboys. EVERY
single season i can't remember a year since like twenty
Fifteen with des brian or whatever that we have not.

Speaker 8 (52:24):
At least had, one like, hey. Hold out Hey.

Speaker 9 (52:27):
Last year dak went up to the opening gate like
that's remember that. YOU signed on i Believe it, was
september eighth which Was the first sunday.

Speaker 8 (52:35):
Of the season so it's not like they aren't used
to Doing.

Speaker 9 (52:38):
This, IN cowboyville however I don't think mica wants to play.

Speaker 8 (52:41):
This game anymore it doesn't seem, like.

Speaker 9 (52:43):
YOU know don't i don't believe you write something like
that publicly if you don't actually.

Speaker 8 (52:49):
Believe IN it and i don't know if anyone has
more leverage than, Him right now so.

Speaker 3 (52:53):
It's it's going.

Speaker 8 (52:54):
To be interesting my source AND the one i trust
the most say he's unlikely to Play. For THE cowboys
but i have to have a hard Time. Letting Having
jerry imagine jerry letting room.

Speaker 3 (53:03):
Off the door.

Speaker 1 (53:06):
This is this is where things get a little.

Speaker 3 (53:11):
Testy for me.

Speaker 1 (53:13):
This is when things Get to my i'm, not happy point.

Speaker 2 (53:18):
When it gets to where it's, not about money but.
It's about principle, it's ABOUT like am i gonna try
to keep living this life for the? Next Foreseeable future
now i'm gonna take myself out. Of, This equation yeah
like that's what the lady. Was just saying she was
just saying that this has Happened since this briant was

(53:41):
this brand hadn't Played for the cowboys in eight.

Speaker 1 (53:43):
Years or ten but still and they're still doing exactly
and that is where. The problem lies and as a,
matter of fact let's just go to the Horse's Mountain
as jerry jones decides that he's gonna let us know
he Doesn't think that micah's gonna be at camp.

Speaker 3 (54:03):
Any, Time, soon.

Speaker 1 (54:06):
Again uh your, definition of urgent uh IS not necessarily
i don't get believe he.

Speaker 5 (54:14):
Gave the Definition?

Speaker 3 (54:15):
Did you okay when does? We GET her so?

Speaker 5 (54:18):
I stay?

Speaker 3 (54:18):
Out? You okay okay did he come here that he
will be on the field to? Get?

Speaker 5 (54:22):
Full again. No absolutely not.

Speaker 3 (54:27):
That has to a big part of that.

Speaker 5 (54:29):
Is his DECISION.

Speaker 1 (54:32):
How would.

Speaker 4 (54:32):
I know that i'm, just Saying no but i'm urging
your m.

Speaker 3 (54:38):
It's his decision it's. Not his decision you the one.
With the money what is?

Speaker 4 (54:44):
He?

Speaker 3 (54:44):
TALKING? About? AM? I am? I? IS something role i
mean like my ears?

Speaker 5 (54:48):
Broken at?

Speaker 3 (54:49):
Something what about this? Is his PROBLEM that's what.

Speaker 2 (54:54):
I keep saying the only Thing that that's Michael's issue
is mike is under contract for.

Speaker 3 (55:02):
This one year the next.

Speaker 2 (55:04):
Two are options they still can keep him and, just
franchise tagging but they have. To pay him the average
of the top five don't have a, Problem with it.

Speaker 3 (55:17):
But that's still, not a guarantee and football is a
game that you need a.

Speaker 2 (55:28):
Guarantee because you could get. Hurt any, day the risk
the risk is the biggest thing because they they don't
get paid like baseball or, basketball or soccer where guaranteed
deal you play for us now for the next three years.

Speaker 3 (55:45):
At THIS price the nfl.

Speaker 1 (55:47):
Doesn't do that That is why i've had the biggest
issue with. This whole situation jerry knows that you need
to go ahead and get this deal thoughe and, like
you've said you've been saying it and you continue. To
say it if you don't, want him, there trade, him
trade him Quit trying to what, IS your point i

(56:12):
guess is. My biggest thing what Is your point jerry
that you were trying to pull because of, the simple fact,
as they said it may come down to, the eleventh
hour you're still. Paying for it you're. Still paying him
you're going to give. Him his money so what is
the Hold Up. The dallas cowboys if we're going back

(56:32):
to the conversation that, we had before and you brought this.
Up numerous times he wants to be in the middle
of a conversation.

Speaker 3 (56:39):
Every Single day the.

Speaker 1 (56:41):
Cowboys are going to, Do that anyway, Sign, your player yeah.

Speaker 3 (56:45):
Sign your player can.

Speaker 2 (56:46):
We go back let's go back to the, before THE
draft AND i remember i did a report on the
defensive linemen that were coming out in this draft that
it WAS the deepest nfl draft for defensive linemen and
outside linebackers. Right in years there was like seven or

(57:10):
eight guys that were first round options and they all.
Did get picked, by the way that would have been
the perfect time if you were going to trade him
and you didn't want to pay the money you.

Speaker 3 (57:23):
Could have traded there was a bunch of those teams
with that.

Speaker 2 (57:27):
Had multiple picks you could have got two guys right
and under rookie deals that. COULD have, spelled i mean
they Wouldn't Have, been michael parsons but at least you
would have had the potential to get other guys that could.

Speaker 3 (57:43):
Fill.

Speaker 1 (57:43):
The role well you would have been able to get
them under the. Rookie contract too, right that man if
you don't want to pay people and you're trying, to hold,
on hold, ON hold, on i mean what, are, we
doing like what what are we truly? Doing Right Now
as dallas cowboy fans because we're spending more time talking
about this than what actually happened in the scrimmage Yesterday

(58:05):
Against the la rams where. We got abused You know, What,
i'm saying like what? Are, we doing yeah we had,
some great plays but the fact of the matter is
we're talking about our defense not being able to stop
people yesterday. In live scrimmage intersquad, scrim not intersquad but

(58:28):
mutual practice team Practices With the la rams. And the
drama and. That's my point let's. Talk about that let's
talk about that instead of spending Time talking about jerry
and the FACT that he.

Speaker 3 (58:41):
I don't think he's gonna play in. The first game you.

Speaker 1 (58:45):
Need To win and i'm not saying you're guaranteed To win,
if michael plays but you need to have all of
your people in place if healthy and him standing. On
the Sideline micah and jerry have not spoke since, of
The demand since michael's pinned that Letter to, the cowboy

(59:05):
fans they.

Speaker 3 (59:07):
Have not spoken what do they have.

Speaker 1 (59:09):
To talk about they need to figure out what the
course of action is, going to be you know That
up to but. That's the point if quit being a
child about it and go handle the business because the deal.
Can be done they still Haven't talked. To muga letter why.
That is ridiculous if this is What did, Uh ai

(59:35):
say i'm supposed to be the franchise player and were.
Talking about practice why are we not getting this dude
on the field so he could come out ready to play?
For game one he. Could be working he. Could be
working now, they're not working.

Speaker 4 (59:52):
And.

Speaker 1 (59:53):
Now he's frustrated because what do you always say when,
people get tired if you, sick and tied of being,
Sick and tied I'm tired of jerry and the, nonsense
cowboy players former players Are tired of jerry. And the
nonsense just handle business the way business is supposed. To
be done either you want to be there. Or you
don't you want me here. Or you don't just let

(01:00:14):
me know and. Welcome the principalityalities, coming up next we're
gonna ask about The Principalities as mark henry brings You
his world's strongest take right here on the morning Kick
Off ON sports radio.

Speaker 3 (01:00:26):
Am thirteen HUNDRED He's a Wwe.

Speaker 1 (01:00:30):
Hall of famer he's also Recognized as the. World's strongest man.
He Is deep mark henry and he brings you his.
World's strongest take, take it. Away big, fella all right?
What's up man, You, Know what thomas it's time for
the world's strongest take by the.

Speaker 3 (01:00:48):
World's strongest man.

Speaker 2 (01:00:51):
My guess back then they, didn't know me But now,
that i'm high they.

Speaker 3 (01:00:58):
All, on me guys the world.

Speaker 2 (01:01:02):
Strongest take today it's brought To You by Covid bkas
and i'm going to give it to you the way
that it needs to be done and the way that
every athlete that's ever played a sport has sat in
their locker and they look around with the team, that

(01:01:23):
they're on and you know who. The dudes are there's
always dudes. On Your team and i'm not talking about just.
EVERY single guy i mean the dude we Got here At,
university of texas the head, Of The, Dudes Arch, Manning Colin,

(01:01:43):
Simmons anthony hill, mookie like there there's there's a. Bunch
of guys they're. They're, the, Dudes well guys, cleveland has
dudes they have.

Speaker 3 (01:01:59):
They have mind but there's a new dude and his
Name Is, sha deer sanders fourth quarterback. On The roster.

Speaker 2 (01:02:14):
Fourth How do you i'm, Just, a question hards how
do you go from fourth quarterback to starting the game.
In one week i'll, tell you how because the locker.
Room has spoken the other dudes on the, team are

(01:02:38):
like what?

Speaker 3 (01:02:38):
Are we doing.

Speaker 2 (01:02:41):
The guy's throwing pills all over the field high is
accuracy rating on the, team four quarterbacks highest success, rate
at practice but. He was fourth the dudes have spoke, up,

(01:03:04):
and said listen he. Needs to play we all know
he holds court with.

Speaker 3 (01:03:11):
The wide receivers all.

Speaker 2 (01:03:14):
The wide receivers they're not in the other quarterbacks that,
Are starting locker they're.

Speaker 3 (01:03:18):
At his locker.

Speaker 2 (01:03:23):
So now they made the announcement yesterday That your derish
sanders would be starting.

Speaker 3 (01:03:29):
The Preseason game and i'm gonna tell, You.

Speaker 2 (01:03:31):
RIGHT now hard i think they are praying that he
goes out and peez the bed.

Speaker 3 (01:03:39):
Because that would mean. That they're wrong.

Speaker 2 (01:03:44):
And HOW do you i to, ask another question if
you've Been Mentored by tom brady for since you were,
fourteen years old.

Speaker 3 (01:03:58):
How do you not.

Speaker 2 (01:04:02):
Allow this kid to have the same opportunities as? Every
other quarterback even though we knew that why he slipped,
in the draft and we found out more information of
why he slipped in the draft because of the contract
that he has and the deal, that he made the
league has the profit. Share, with him now any team

(01:04:25):
that got him would have to profit share signed the hell.
Of a, deal so, sneaky so. Smart so good but he's,
A DUDE now And i think i'm gonna TELL you
what i think.

Speaker 3 (01:04:42):
Is gonna happen and this.

Speaker 2 (01:04:43):
Is my take my take Is That your derrick sanders
is going to go out there this weekend. In one half.
He's gonna play he's gonna score at. Least two touchdowns
he's gonna look like the quarterback that he should have
been drafted in the.

Speaker 3 (01:05:01):
Top five picks?

Speaker 1 (01:05:04):
What, Say you okay i'm gonna push back a little
bit on this just because of the fact that The
Reason why shador sanders is starting right now Is Because
obviously joe flacco is not.

Speaker 3 (01:05:18):
Going to play he doesn't. Need to play he's.

Speaker 1 (01:05:20):
The experienced quarterback he's going to be the number one
quarterback at the beginning. Of The season Kenny Pickett and
dylan gabriel both, dealing With Injuries, and tyler hutley which is.
Why They signed tyler hutley is in and he's been,
on Short rest so chador is gonna. GET every opportunity
i do agree with you they are hoping that he

(01:05:40):
pees down HIS leg because i look at This Situation
like Vince. YOUNG in tennessee i look At it what Cole, McCoy,
in cleveland who, by the way. We're, number twelve ironically
this situation IS bad because i don't feel like, the
front off, the front office, the general manager and the

(01:06:03):
head coach wanted to Go and get shador. For whatever
reason now they see him in this camp, and, they're
like damn we haven't let him play with the first,
team at all and now he's getting.

Speaker 3 (01:06:15):
All this love if he goes out and he plays
with the first.

Speaker 1 (01:06:18):
Team and, he plays well there will be A firestorm
in Cleveland Clamoring. For Shador, sanders shador sanders, as you,
said his teammates they want to kick.

Speaker 3 (01:06:35):
It with him he's doing stuff.

Speaker 1 (01:06:37):
In the community he's getting he's getting the support. Of
the community he's doing things in a political way to get.
The popular vote he's Getting the popular he's definitely locked.
IN on, that i, Know you know america knows dude

(01:06:59):
was good in cop do did things that they weren't expecting.
Him to DO but as i, told you yesterday you
look At it in ndjoku and what have we been Saying,
about arch manny get that, tight end involved you gonna
play a lot that's can be your go to get it.

Speaker 3 (01:07:16):
To the backs move.

Speaker 1 (01:07:17):
The ball, a little bit and if he goes out
and puts up any kind of positive numbers with no
reps with, the first string, twelve or fifteen two touchdowns,
if he does if this team goes out and they.
Move the ball because let's Not forget, the indianapolis coach
they have their own quarterback situation that they're Going Through

(01:07:39):
with Anthony Richardson. And daniel jones these guys are going
out to try. To number one you're trying to make a.
Team number two they really want to. Win these games
they Really Want To INSHAW Door sanders.

Speaker 3 (01:07:53):
Nfl network win they about to get a.

Speaker 1 (01:07:57):
Lot of publicity the guys that are calling the game
tomorrow night. Excited about it this is going to. Be
a spectacle and can you believe that it's only. One
preseason game it's Just a preseason it's, a preseason game
and this guy is getting an opportunity to showcase his
talents that we all.

Speaker 2 (01:08:14):
Know, he, Has yeah well i'm looking forward to it and,
me both man this has been a hell of.

Speaker 1 (01:08:21):

Speaker 3 (01:11:41):
Fired, Up. For you macad you know y'all are part
of the BIGGEST reason why i show. Up every day

Speaker 5 (01:11:51):
Old keep working this is, The.

Speaker 1 (01:11:52):
Dream Man marshall lend were is a fifth, year walk
on no more former walk on who was part of
the five and. Seven football team he's been a part of.
The special teams he's. Done his part he's come in

(01:12:16):
and obviously earned the respect, of his, teammates most importantly
learned the Respect of coach sart and now he Was
Rewarded with glenn powell telling them that he is. On
full scholarship we're not going to see very many stories like,
that moving forward but for us to be able to
see that.

Speaker 2 (01:12:36):
That, was amazing yeah, it. WAS awesome man i Always loved.
THOSE every year i was getting. Chills, right, there yeah
man you get guys that they bust their rear end.
In The sacrifice michael taff was one, of those, yep
you know you get that announcement to all the, teammates
that hey this, is our brother we're. Accepting him in

(01:12:59):
he's not. Walk on anymore he is a scholarship member.

Speaker 3 (01:13:04):
Of.

Speaker 2 (01:13:04):
This team yeah like that's a great moment and those
guys will. Never forget it.

Speaker 1 (01:13:08):
And to, me you know That's why coach sark and
some of these other coaches have been fighting for the. Walk,
on program right think about the walk ON program and
i know people don't don't, lose, Your MIND folks texas
a and M. The twelfth Man the twelfth man was
that type of program to where guys'. Lives were changed

(01:13:33):
they would do anything to get, onto the field and
so much so that they Became, a twelfth man which
obviously has now expanded to so many different. Parts of
it but it's just those types of moments where.

Speaker 3 (01:13:47):
They needed somebody and the guy came out.

Speaker 1 (01:13:50):
Of, The crowd Right that's, What i'm saying like these
things happen. Because of that being able to Come to
The university Of Texas for michael taff was. Always a
dream he had scholarship offers, to smaller schools military schools and.
Things like that but he wanted to Be On the texas,
longhorned football team so he did everything that he could

(01:14:12):
do to. BE on there i know we can go
all the Way back to rudy and talk about what he.

Speaker 3 (01:14:18):
Wanted TO do all i want to do Is Play.
For notre, dame.

Speaker 1 (01:14:21):
Got in, got an opportunity and here we are think
about The Stories of MIKE Leach Talking rp mike leach
but talking about we. Need a kicker so they was
having tryouts for kids in the stands to come out and.
Try to kick lindsey tried To Kick for mike leach.
At one point so you start to look at these

(01:14:42):
types of deals, and, you say man that is what.

Speaker 3 (01:14:46):
It's all about that means you're giving up.

Speaker 1 (01:14:48):
The ultimate sacrifice you're doing everything you possibly can to
help this team.

Speaker 3 (01:14:53):
And knowing what story, though.

Speaker 1 (01:14:56):
Right now your parents aren't having to, pay for food
having to, Pay for school you're not having to pay
for school because some of those kids are out there
working to get their. Way through school you've seen those
stories of guys going To Like the kirk warners going
out there and working at grocer at the end of,
the night stocking after he's, done his homework after he's,

(01:15:17):
done the practice after he's, done the workouts then he's
going to work work like people don't understand what some
of these. Guys are doing so it's always good when
you get to share those. Types of moments and it's
not just Happening at The. University of texas. It's happening
everywhere but it's a good and great feeling when you
get a chance to watch those. Guys get celebrated, AND

(01:15:38):
most importantly i know those, guys are happy but the
teammates were. Rallying around them. You, learn them yeah that's what.
It's all about i'm gonna thank everybody. For tuning in will.
Be better tomorrow make sure you tell five friends to
tell five friends that the morning kickoff is on and
we're Your Home. For Texas Athletics For, Mark henry marcus

(01:16:00):
