the boards. And if you want to be a part

(01:30):

we want to give you a chance to be a
part of the show as well as leaving a voice

I've already got a buddy of mine who told me
he won a bear of tickets yesterday and I was like, oh,
that's pretty cool actually doing it. So that was good
stuff right there. But I want to get into this
(02:12):
conversation Mark, because the SEC Media Days are starting next week.
They start on Monday, everybody's going to be arriving in Atlanta, Georgia,
atl So much going on in Atlanta. But yesterday the
news came out that Texas was going to be sending
Arch Manning, Michael Taff and Anthony Hill Junior to SEC
(02:35):
Media Days, and to be honest with you, nobody was
surprised by that.
Speaker 3 (02:40):
Arch Manning might as well just have.
Speaker 1 (02:42):
His own area set up so everyone can do their
interviews and get those moments in. It's going to be
a mad house when shows up, So it's going to
be interesting. I mean, obviously, he's been ahead of a
lot of this already. He's done interviews, he's been in
the public eye. A lot of people have already had
(03:03):
their opportunity to interview them. But this will be the
first time that everybody will be in the same spot
with an opportunity to interview him.
Speaker 2 (03:12):
Hey, I'm wondering if you know, we're talking about him
being a star and all of the things that come
with that, and Queen Years had the Doctor Pepper commercial.
Now wouldn't it be pretty cool to see Arch in
one of those.
Speaker 1 (03:27):
Well, I mean, I'm sure Arch is going to have
an opportunity to do pretty much whatever he wants.
Speaker 3 (03:32):
Yeah, he's already.
Speaker 1 (03:33):
Doing the red Bull commercial and some other things like that,
So it is It's going to be a fun, fun
time in Atlanta, obviously with Texas going to be there
on day number two of the SEC Media Day, so
you know, they get the party started on Monday. But
Texas is the main attraction and always will be. I
(03:53):
know a lot of people don't want to believe that,
but being at SEC media Days last year in Dallas
and getting an opportunity to see all of the action
and how all the people went about it and what's
going on with it. Yeah, it's a little bit different.
It's definitely a little bit different. Well, I mean, you
got to look at it.
Speaker 2 (04:14):
In the last ten years, you know, it's always been Alabama, Clemson, Georgia. Yeah,
and now that Texas is in the SEC and doing
all the things that they're doing with you know, being
in the playoffs two years in a row.
Speaker 3 (04:29):
They are now the team.
Speaker 2 (04:30):
Yep, you know they are that those teams that have
a potential for a dynasty.
Speaker 3 (04:35):
They just got to win one. Yeah. It starts on Monday.
Speaker 1 (04:38):
LSU and South Carolina will start it off, followed by
Ole miss and Vanderbilt.
Speaker 3 (04:43):
That will finish off Day one.
Speaker 1 (04:46):
Day two it's Auburn and Georgia, and then in the
afternoon it'll be Tennessee and Texas with their opportunity to
have all the conversations. On Wednesday, first thing will be
Alabama and Mississsippi State, followed by Florida and Oklahoma, and
then it ends on Thursday with Kentucky, Missouri, Arkansas and Texas,
(05:08):
A and M rounding it all out. Busy, busy time
for a lot of folks. There's going to be obviously
all the coaches will be there. There'll be a bunch
of conversations that are going on each day, and I'm
looking at the interview and how it's going.
Speaker 3 (05:26):
To take place. They got everybody spread out.
Speaker 1 (05:29):
Coach Shark is going to be busy, busy, busy, as
will Anthony Hill arch Manning, and of course Michael Taff.
Speaker 3 (05:38):
Michael Taff is the OG of the group.
Speaker 1 (05:42):
You know, he's going to be the one that's gonna
be kind of keeping everybody under control in a bay.
But he's also one of those guys that everybody wants
to talk to.
Speaker 3 (05:52):
Because he is a dog. He gets it. Yeah, you
got to get some media training.
Speaker 2 (05:56):
I think if you have a veteran that's a common force,
a lot of sports writers will go to you.
Speaker 3 (06:02):
Yep, they want to get you to make a SoundBite
for them.
Speaker 2 (06:05):
And these younger guys that haven't had this experience, they're
going to have them temper the emotions so they don't
say something like, oh, yeah, we're gonna run through everybody.
Speaker 3 (06:16):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (06:16):
I think what's the name does a really good job
the administration, especially with John Bianco, Thomas Stepp and all
the people that work with John Biaco Bianco. He kind
of keeps everybody under control, and everybody's well versed in that.
Speaker 3 (06:33):
You know.
Speaker 1 (06:34):
We were talking about Pro Football Focus and how they've
got each team and each player ranked in different groups. Well,
they talked about Colin Simmons and he was somebody that
I thought was gonna end up going to SEC media
days because he is definitely a conversation starter, but he
(06:54):
is also the one that will say just about anything
to let you know how good he is and how
good he thinks this team is going to be. But
they ranked him as the number one outside linebacker outside
edge rusher in their latest Paul.
Speaker 4 (07:11):
Colin Simmons is an absolute freak boy. Texas just has
to feel really good about having.
Speaker 5 (07:15):
At number eight is Colin Simmons from Texas who's also
a rising true sophomore. The technique this guy had in
his true freshman year and he's still a crazy athlete too.
Speaker 3 (07:26):
I think he's a ready the best ed rusher in
the Cup.
Speaker 4 (07:28):
If you've got a freak pass rusher like this off
the edge, you can do whatever you want behind it
because you know he's gonna win those battles. I'll say
the same thing with him as I did with Dylan Stewart.
You leaveing one on one, even in the SEC with
those offensive linemen, you have a serious problem because he's
going to beat you around the corner. Colin Simmons is
an absolute freak boy. Texas just has to feel really
good about habiting.
Speaker 3 (07:47):
Why number one? Because I'm the one there it is,
I'm the one. I'm the one while I wear number
one because I'm the one.
Speaker 2 (07:53):
Listen, man, I don't know if you're a movie fan
and watch the Matrix. The Matrix was based on and
understanding of who you are and what you are and
without with that confidence, that supreme confidence you're invincible, and
I think Colin Simmons is the one.
Speaker 3 (08:12):
Yeah, he is. He is neo. He is definitely somebody
that you start to truly, truly understand when you when
you look at somebody and you just automatically know that
this dude is different. You can hear it in his voice.
Speaker 1 (08:30):
You've you've seen interviews when he was in high school,
the motivation behind who he is. This it's a different level.
There's levels to this, right like, and you've gone through it.
I mean obviously you had to do some things to
get yourself to that level. And he's no different. He
created and he's created a monster. He's that player on
(08:54):
on the video game where you go in and create
a player. He is that type of man across the board,
across the board, across the board. And I do understand
what they were saying about, Hey, he's gonna beat if
you try to block him one on one, you can
kiss the baby, because he's he's getting to the quarterback there,
(09:16):
the running back that whatever.
Speaker 2 (09:18):
That's that's a bonus for Texas because if you got
somebody like that, you have to have a running back
chip him, then you know you kind of got to
play behind and realize that that guy could chip and
then go out in a route. But for the most part,
they're gonna have to dedicate a player to help. Yeah,
on his side, so you have one less receiver.
Speaker 1 (09:38):
Yeah, because he uh, he's built different. And then and
you talk about what Anthony Hill is able to to
do as well, what he brings to the table on
the other side, you got you got some problems that
are truly out there for the defense, for the offensive
players in the SEC because of what they're gonna be
able to bring and the chaos, the chaos that they're
(10:02):
going to be able to create just because of the
athleticism that Anthony Hill uh lafoule and and the fact
that Colin Simmons has become this absolute freak.
Speaker 3 (10:17):
You don't want to be the guy. You don't want
to be the weak link.
Speaker 2 (10:20):
Yeah, you don't want to be the guy.
Speaker 3 (10:24):
And you can the hole was in your spot. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (10:28):
Like, if Texas can these defensive alignment, can defensive tackles
can hold up their end of the bargain, it's gonna
be deadly.
Speaker 3 (10:37):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (10:38):
It's a it's an interesting time to be a Texas
Longhorned fan because of the way that things are are progressing,
not in an arrogant type of way, but you and
I have seen the success of this sports program from
all levels, from all levels, and now we've seen that
(11:00):
football is now on the same level of what we
saw with women's basketball, what we've seen with baseball, what
we've seen with track.
Speaker 3 (11:07):
Soccer and every other sport and golf.
Speaker 1 (11:11):
Walking around this cabin, I mean yes, so now that
football is at the head of the table, good things
are happening here on the forty acres. We are just
getting started right here on the morning kickoff. Coming up
in the next segment, Kirk Cousins. Sometimes the grass is
(11:32):
not always green because you never know what they're fertilizing
it with.
Speaker 3 (11:37):
We'll talk about it when we.
Speaker 1 (11:38):
Come back right here on the morning kickoff on Sports
Radio and thirteen hundred the Zone.
Speaker 3 (11:45):
Coming up.
Speaker 1 (11:45):
In the next segment, we'll have Danny Davis of the
Austin America Statesman talking all things Texas Longhorns. There's a
lot of moves that are being made with Texas on
every front, so we'll.
Speaker 3 (11:57):
Get his thoughts on that.
Speaker 1 (11:58):
But right now, I want to get into the conversation
about Kirk Cousins. In case you hadn't seen the new
Netflix showed Quarterback. If we watched it in the past,
you know that that's how he became a star. That's
when I started liking Kirk Cousins. And then you also
got to think about this. Kirk Cousins was drafted at
(12:22):
the same time RG three was. He was drafted with
RG three in the same draft by the same team,
and it was a weird dynamic. When you sit back
and you truly think about it, Kirk Cousins has still gone.
Speaker 3 (12:38):
On to do amazing things in the NFL.
Speaker 1 (12:40):
His money is ridiculous when you start to think of
all the money that he's guaranteed getting wrong teed each
and he finds a way to get it done. And
now he's back on the Netflix documentary called Quarterback. It's him,
it is Jared Goff, and it's Marcus Mariota. Now, Marcus
(13:05):
Mariota was at Atlanta Quarterback as well. At one time
he ended up walking off the team and it was
kind of funny.
Speaker 3 (13:14):
Well, this one, it doesn't have Marcus on it.
Speaker 1 (13:16):
It has Jared Goff, it has Kirk Cousins, and it
has Joe Burrow. He was on the show with Marcus
Mariota the first time that it was there. Marcus Mariota
ends up leaving the team and going on about his business.
Speaker 3 (13:32):
Everybody's like he quit on the team. He quit on
the team.
Speaker 1 (13:34):
Marcus was like, I'm done with the atl So Kirk Cousins,
who was in Minnesota, had an opportunity to stay in Minnesota,
decided he wanted to go to Atlanta fresh start instead
of staying with the team that he already had good
wide receivers. He had a solid squad with him nn.
He went to Atlanta and they blindsided him again from
(13:58):
what he says, by dre draft than Michael Pennocks junior. Now,
the reason why he wanted to leave Minnesota was because
they were about to draft a quarterback. They were going
to bring in one other quarterback, but he didn't feel
good about it. And so here's Kirk Cousins talking about
his time in Minnesota.
Speaker 6 (14:17):
We looked around and we found there's an opportunity that
would be a longer commitment. Would you be interested in
giving us that longer commitment. They said, nope, We're good
with our offer. And I said, okay, you made my
decision really easy, you know, And up signed with Atlanta
and was pretty excited about the chance to get down
there and start fresh.
Speaker 7 (14:35):
And then, you know, was pretty surprised when the NFL
drafts happened.
Speaker 8 (14:41):
We're the eighth pick in the twenty twenty four NFL Draft,
the ATLANTAFL conflict.
Speaker 9 (14:48):
Michael, Why no, that is the first surprise. Hey, now
the NFL draft, to say the least, and he is
going to the place that just made a very expensive
investments in a veteran quarterback.
Speaker 7 (15:09):
Wasn't expecting us to take a quarterback so high. At
the time, it felt like I had been a little
bit misled or certainly if I had the information around pregency,
it certainly would have affected my decision. I had no
reason to leave Minnesota with how much we loved it
there if both teams are going to be drafting a
quarterback high. But I've also learned in twelve years in
(15:29):
this league that you're not entitled anything. It's all about
being able to earn your spot and improve yourself.
Speaker 10 (15:37):
Man.
Speaker 1 (15:37):
Look, they told him come on down here, I'm gonna
give you ninety million dollars guarantee, and they've already paid
them one hundred million. So I mean what the deal
is up to one hundred and eighty million dollars. Since
(15:58):
you behind down somewhere, man, you are you are in
a quarterback in the NFL. You've had one injury that
I know of that was significant enough, and that was
the achilles. Now you have a chance to be a
backup quarterback in the NFL and make a great living,
make more than a lot of starters. What you weren't
(16:20):
getting paid as a starter. Yeah, so go ahead and
chill out man. Come on, listen, you can be a dad.
Speaker 3 (16:30):
How many kids?
Speaker 2 (16:31):
He ain't Philip Rivers. Now he's not Philip Rivers, but
he's a dad.
Speaker 3 (16:35):
He is a dad. You want to be able to
drive your kids to school.
Speaker 2 (16:38):
They play football and baseball, mar was Tilly Wings, soccer, whatever,
and he's got the opportunity to do that. Like, just
chill out man, Yeah much. But you know what, it's
the disrespect. He feels like, Okay, you made me a
promise and you didn't stand up to that, and you
could have got me a weapon.
Speaker 3 (16:58):
You could There were there were people in the that
would have helped on the offensive end, and you didn't
go get those and you.
Speaker 1 (17:06):
Got the ultimate weapon. You got B John Robinson, you
got the ultimate. He's got to prove it to me.
Speaker 3 (17:14):
What hold on, hold on, hold on, hold Mark, Marcus
Mark the tank.
Speaker 1 (17:21):
Did you just say he got approved B John and
Robinson's got to prove.
Speaker 5 (17:24):
It to you.
Speaker 2 (17:25):
I gotta see him rush for fifteen hundred yards and
be in the same category with uh Derrick Henry and
sat Quin Barkley.
Speaker 3 (17:35):
Mark, tell me you're joking. Please tell me. I know
he's talented, but.
Speaker 2 (17:39):
But but I want to see him be the guy
before y'all crown him. I know he's good, but he's
not sain Quin Barkley. They don't use him like that.
They don't use him. That's a different offense. It's a
totally different offense.
Speaker 1 (17:56):
If he was, you're gonna tell me that you do
not believe that be Sewn Robinson.
Speaker 2 (18:02):
He's in the upper epschelon quarter a running back. Okay,
but I want to see him be the guy. Everybody's
saying he the guy, and you don't believe that he is. No,
he improved it. But how many Russian titles you have?
Speaker 3 (18:16):
None?
Speaker 1 (18:16):
How many people actually have rushing titles, There's not that many.
It's a different era in football.
Speaker 3 (18:23):
Are you arguing a dead cause you know what I'm
talking about? No, I don't. I'm confused, big Top, I'm confused.
Speaker 2 (18:30):
Many times as he led the league in Russian touchdowns,
how many times has he?
Speaker 1 (18:35):
John Robinson last year ran to rush the ball three
hundred and four times for fourteen hundred yards. Fourteen hundred.
He was third in the NFL in rushing yard.
Speaker 3 (18:49):
He is not number one. He hasn't been yet.
Speaker 1 (18:55):
Mark, Please tell me crown and stops crowning. I know
this is supposed to be about Kirk Cousins, folks, but
my man just derailed this college.
Speaker 3 (19:06):
You said he was the ultimate weapon, and he's not
the ultimate weapon. Mark, He's good, Marge, stop it.
Speaker 10 (19:14):
Add in sixty one receptions, Yes, for four hundred and
thirty one yards, Yes.
Speaker 1 (19:21):
Yes, Please tell me this is a bit your gimmick.
Speaker 3 (19:29):
Please to put my hand down.
Speaker 2 (19:31):
Number number one is important to me. Before y'all keep
handing him number one. You gotta get it, get it.
Speaker 3 (19:40):
He have all the tools to do it. Barkley.
Speaker 1 (19:46):
This this dude ran for fourteen hundred and fifty six yards,
which was third in the NFL, and you're telling me.
Speaker 3 (19:56):
He ain't good don't crowd.
Speaker 2 (19:58):
I say that, don't crowning the words in my mouth.
He is the putty words in my mouth. He has
take that last year not good. He is really good,
He's beyond good. But he is not number one. He
does not have the crown.
Speaker 3 (20:15):
If you ever played Fortnite, when you win, you get
the crown.
Speaker 1 (20:20):
Derrick Henry has had the crown. He's called He's had
the crown. He is King Henry. Where's beyond B John's crown? Well,
I'm giving him a crown because he has earned that crown.
Speaker 3 (20:36):
And you, in that modern society, everybody get a trophy.
I'm looking at what different I'm not when it comes
to Robinson. The fact of the matter that you we
gotta clip this and we gotta post this. We have
to clip this and post this conversation because I cannot
wait for the Jon Robinson fan club to come after
(20:58):
Mark Henry Man, I'm gonna.
Speaker 5 (21:00):
Beat up about.
Speaker 3 (21:03):
Because you're making a mountain out of a mole.
Speaker 11 (21:05):
Here.
Speaker 3 (21:05):
You just said he don't crown him. Stop it, stop
it don't better than that. Come on, man, you a
Michael Hardball harder and I am watching b Jon Robinson
the Ultimate Weapon to.
Speaker 1 (21:20):
Be able to be for the Atlanta Falcons. Atlanta Falcons,
he is a star.
Speaker 3 (21:26):
He is a star, and he needs very good and
he needs.
Speaker 2 (21:29):
He has not again on his name, number one and
touchdowns our yardage. We cannot crown him until it's time.
I will be the first one to be like, I'm
a man. I'm about another bottle of.
Speaker 3 (21:46):
Jon Musterson, so stop it.
Speaker 1 (21:50):
Coming up next, I'm asked Daddy Davis his thoughts on
Jon Robinson. I hope he's been listening to this because
I can't wait for this conversation and so.
Speaker 3 (21:59):
Much, so much more.
Speaker 1 (22:03):
Free my horn right here on the Morning killof Why
You Hit It, Mark Kickoff on sports Radio AM thirteen
hundred The Zone. Welcome back to the morning Kickoff right
here on sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone. It
is Wednesday, it is seven thirty four, and that can only.
Speaker 3 (22:22):
Mean one thing.
Speaker 1 (22:22):
Our guy, Danny Davis of the Austin American Statesman, joins
us to talk all things Texas Longhorns, and Danny, let's
get right into it because Mark just said that Jon
is good, but he's not great. We're not gonna crown
him as of yet. Jon almost ran from fifteen hundred
(22:47):
yards last year, but Mark said he wasn't number one,
so I can't give him that love, Danny.
Speaker 3 (22:53):
How crazy is Mark Henry right now?
Speaker 11 (22:57):
I mean the greatest a subjective turn term.
Speaker 12 (23:00):
I mean, Mark apparently has the higher standards for his
uh running back rankings, and you do, maybe Bejon. At
some point we'll we'll hit that. I think most people
thought he had a pretty good season. I'm sure with
the fantasy football drafts roll around in a couple months,
he's gonna be one of the first running backs off
the board.
Speaker 3 (23:18):
But you know, I think Mark.
Speaker 11 (23:22):
Has a different standard than than you do. And I
think that's fine.
Speaker 3 (23:26):
It is called greatness, it's called being number one.
Speaker 2 (23:29):
Like I don't think, I don't think I would describe
I don't think.
Speaker 11 (23:35):
I would use that word to describe him.
Speaker 12 (23:36):
But if you want to, I'm not gonna quibble with
you in July about that term. But I think that's
a subjective term, So I'd not gonna call Mark.
Speaker 11 (23:47):
I'm not gonna call Mark crazy. Never see what.
Speaker 3 (23:51):
That man, I'm going to see you at Media Day.
Speaker 1 (23:56):
Be careful, all right, let's get into it. Media Day
eight starts next week. Obviously, big twelve. We would normally
be in Dallas right now at Frisco actually, if we
were still in the Big twelve. Now being in the SEC,
we're going to Hot Atlanta with no surprise that Arch
Manning is actually making the trip this year along with
(24:17):
Anthony Hill Junior and Michael Taff. These are guys that
obviously have been well versed.
Speaker 3 (24:24):
In the media.
Speaker 1 (24:25):
Michael Taff that is because he's it's always Mondays with
Mookie and then you also have Anthony Hill. But Arch
Manning is going to demand a lot of eyes and
ears come Tuesday.
Speaker 3 (24:39):
Yeah.
Speaker 12 (24:40):
I think if you look at the list of guys,
whether it's deserved or not, I think Arch is probably
the headliner at least that Tuesday, probably the entire week.
I'd expect there to be a huge crowd. I'm a
crossing my finger and hoping Texas success up and us
maybe a little.
Speaker 11 (24:55):
Sigh a side time with us three guys, the.
Speaker 12 (24:57):
Local guys can get some questions in because I out
we're gonna get much much time with with Arch in
the large scrums. But you know, we'll see our You know,
he's talked half dozen times various media things. Each time
he's demanded the crowd. He's done very well. You know,
obviously he's been trained I guess by his by his
(25:19):
family or whatever. But i'd expect him to you know,
he hasn't talked to the media much, but I don't
think he's going to say anything silly or get tripped
of bite in questions. He seems pretty trained and pretty
grounded and you know, pretty likable. And in the times
we've gone and talk to him, and then Michael's gonna
be Michael Taff and Anthony Hi's.
Speaker 3 (25:36):
Gonna be Anthony Hill.
Speaker 12 (25:36):
They're both very well trained, and I've enjoyed talking with
them over the over the past couple of years. And
who knows, with all the attention on arch I can
go slide over there and go one on one with
Anthony or one on one with.
Speaker 11 (25:49):
With mister Taps. So we'll see.
Speaker 3 (25:51):
Danny along along the lines. What question would you ask?
Speaker 12 (25:57):
I think it depends on who we're talking about. I mean,
I think Anthony or Michael. I think at this point
we've kind of talked to them about pretty much everything,
so you know, maybe that's a little bit of time
to talk to you know, get to get some more
introspective stuff about them, maybe some more intimate one on
one conversations about stuff that they're interested in or you know,
(26:17):
because I think we kind of know the excess and
those with those guys, Archly, I think it's gonna be
more about you know, your qv one, Now, what's uh,
you know, your mindset on the season, one of your expectations,
you know what was electionitting for the last two years.
But trustee, if you do get one question, and chances
are it's probably been the same questions everyone else.
Speaker 3 (26:35):
Is interested in.
Speaker 12 (26:36):
Hopefully there's nothing to cliche or to outlandish. I always
hate those scrubbles because there's always a couple of reporters
who are doing, you know, their thing, and they're they're
there for their reason, and sometimes some silly questions get
asked and the limited times we have with those guys,
so hopefully in a setting, look with arch we don't
get too many of those because his time is going
(26:56):
to be limited and hopefully he's spending his time on
you know, good questions ask somebody don't get asked me
Peyton and like questions, I think that's kind of a
waste of our time.
Speaker 11 (27:07):
But we'll see.
Speaker 3 (27:08):
Danny's stand next to me, I will say, Danny's got
a question.
Speaker 12 (27:13):
I'm going to use my bodyguard and my personal Yeah,
I guess I got you. I have a soft voice
in these settings, I get I get talked over a lot.
Speaker 11 (27:21):
So I'm gonna need I'm gonna need your health.
Speaker 3 (27:23):
I got you.
Speaker 1 (27:24):
So we're talking to Danny Davis of the Austin American Statesman.
You can find follow him at Underscore Danny Davis and Danny.
Obviously Texas is going to be the feature, but people
are still trying to figure out what LSU is going
to be, Like what is Alabama going to feature? And
those are two teams that Texas doesn't play, But of
(27:45):
course you got the Georgia Bulldogs. That's still one of
the top teams in the SEC. Did you fill out
your media ballot yet?
Speaker 12 (27:55):
I choose dot stud media ballots. I think that's a
stupid exercise. I don't think you can win with those
preseason polls and preseason teams. Also don't think most media people,
including myself, are well trained enough to fill out an
SEC all SEC team because I don't think we've seen
nobody who's stelling out a bout that covered Texas covered.
Speaker 11 (28:18):
Twelve games in South Carolina football last year, no one covering.
Speaker 12 (28:21):
You know, maybe you watch a bunch of Georgia since
Texas was competing with Georgia, but you maybe watched one
or two Vanderbilt. So can you really judge a lot
of those guys. I don't think it's fair. I think
the preseason polls. I'm kind of glad the Big twelve
did away with THEIRS, and I wish this you would
do away with theirs, because what do you win if
you're right? No one cares if you're right. People do
(28:41):
care if you're wrong, and they'll let you know about it.
So what exactly are you gaining gaining out of that?
So it's a long way to saying. People they think
that's lazier. People they think that's not doing your job.
But I have, for the longest time just declined to
do those because I do occasionally vote for the AP's
basketball ball and that's like the most tortured exits thing
(29:03):
I did, and I just prefer not to spend my
free time in the summer voting on you know, all
SEC teams.
Speaker 3 (29:09):
See how rational Danny is. I want you to be
more rational? What are you talking about? Yeah? Yeah, you
know what I'm talking about, talking about watching you. He's
still talking about watching you.
Speaker 1 (29:20):
Oh my gosh, Oh my gosh, Sir Danny Rational. Okay,
well we're gonna move on. We're gonna talk a little baseball.
The draft is coming up. Obviously Texas Longhorns have a
few guys that have been mentioned in there. Uh, they
made some adjustments. Will Gasparino has now decided he was
gonna go to u C.
Speaker 6 (29:39):
L A.
Speaker 1 (29:39):
That news came out, I believe yesterday. Uh, what do
you expect them from this MLB draft?
Speaker 12 (29:48):
I would expect what Texas is expecting, which is, you know,
you saw them acting in the portal, getting a new ketcher,
getting a new short stop. I'd expect Roland expecting On
Florest be drafted in that to come back and loss
something incredibly crazy. Cap Max Blue will be taken probably
the first of all the Longhorns, quite possibly on Day
one either. I think they do like the first round,
(30:09):
the supplemental first rounds.
Speaker 3 (30:10):
So the first three rounds are on Sunday.
Speaker 12 (30:14):
Yes, obviously Max will go go on Sunday. And you know,
did Jared Spencer get drafted to someone take a chance
on him? Kind of with his injury history, but you know,
when he was healthy, he was definitely looking like a
draft prospect. And then you look at some of the
high school guys. Obviously Kyson kind of AM's not coming
to Texas. He's going to be drafted drafted early, but
some of those other Texas kids get drafted. I think
(30:36):
it's gonna be interesting going forward, some of these, you know,
guys who are not not a first round pick, but
you know, one of these like middle round picks. In
the past, if you were a fifth round pick, you
weren't showing up on campus. But now with n I
L and some of these other things, you know, it
does do some of these high school kids opt for
a college instead of the draft, So that'll be interesting
(30:56):
to see that too. But obviously Texas is going to
lose some talent, but those are That's the reason that
at the University of Texas because our talented baseball players.
So it should be expected every year. And we'll see
this kind of what happens happens on Sunday and Monday.
Speaker 3 (31:08):
Yeah, I can't wait.
Speaker 1 (31:09):
As always, good talking to you and we'll see you
next week in atl Buddy, appreciate you'll all right there
is Danny Davis of the Austin American Statesman. When we
come back, we're going to continue the conversations.
Speaker 3 (31:23):
We're gonna look around the MLB.
Speaker 1 (31:25):
There's a lot that was jumping off and I can't
wait to talk about it right here on the morning
kickoff on sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone. Great
stuff by our god Danny Davis of the Austin American Statesman.
You can follow him at Underscore Danny Davis. And right now,
I want to give you an opportunity to win a
pair of tickets to go see Laney Wilson. That's right,
(31:46):
Laney Wilson will be at the Moody Center as always
September to eighteen. Laney Wilson getting a lot of love
on this station. Man, get over to the iHeart Radio app,
press the red button and leave.
Speaker 3 (32:03):
The keyword nose dive. Nose dive is.
Speaker 1 (32:06):
The keyword of the day for you to get a
chance to win a pair of tickets to go see
Laney Wilson. I wanted to talk a little baseball right
here because, let me just say this, there was the
most exciting play in baseball to me will always be
the triple. Watching a guy go from first to third,
I mean from home to third is always going to
(32:29):
be an exciting part because there's so many different things
that are happening in there. You got to get the relay,
you got to turn the bases, you got to make
sure that you're doing everything. You don't want to make
the first or third out at third, but you are
flying around the bag. And the other part of it
is when you start to look at the entirety of
(32:50):
the game. The second most exciting play is an inside
the park home run. Not only did we have one
of those last night, we had to He.
Speaker 3 (33:01):
Delivers to the Atlanta product and Butler is a deep
prime right center field.
Speaker 13 (33:06):
Eli White back at the track turning and it's off
the wall.
Speaker 3 (33:10):
It's in his play. Butler is a second. This might
be inside the park.
Speaker 1 (33:13):
Well, bron he's a third turning a third as lood
is he gus hellmout come.
Speaker 3 (33:17):
To the place.
Speaker 13 (33:17):
That'll be no brow and the kid from Atlanta by
the first pitch to the bottom of the first inning
pits to the inside the park wall.
Speaker 1 (33:26):
Brode beautiful, beautiful. You can hear the excitement there. But
starting a game off with that inside the park. Home
run is awesome, but walking it off is even better.
Speaker 11 (33:43):
Drive zoom.
Speaker 3 (33:47):
The books, just skin those times doonies on the room
does on the moamm.
Speaker 1 (33:59):
Hold inside the park home run. My man was choked
up while he was he was trying to do that play.
I gotta ask Craig if he ever got so excited
(34:19):
that he couldn't even finish the words because he was
getting so choked up.
Speaker 3 (34:24):
I don't, oh Man, you just.
Speaker 2 (34:28):
Bring up a real interesting point when you said that
the triple, which one is better?
Speaker 3 (34:35):
Have the triple or have a walk off?
Speaker 2 (34:38):
Well, I think a walk off would like you just
lose it, man, I mean, the team loses it.
Speaker 1 (34:47):
But there's so many different ways to have a walk off.
It doesn't have to be a walk off home run.
It could be a walk off. They said it could
be a walk off walk There's so many different things.
But watching a person turn the corner running the bases
something that you can't deny Man.
Speaker 3 (35:02):
Always like when you see somebody hit one to the wall,
it bounces off the wall, the guy's gotta go run.
He tries to catch the relay.
Speaker 2 (35:10):
To get the ball to third, and you know the
ball gets pumbled around a little bit, and then the
guys slides just as I mean, like, those are some
very exciting players.
Speaker 1 (35:21):
Yeah, I mean you start to think about how this
goes down and you're like, wow, this dude can really
because you get to see the speed of which somebody
can really run, because you don't get to see it
that often. So when you see a guy go like
O'Neal Cruz or Ellie de la Cruise, those guys are
long legged, they got speed, they throw the ball hard,
(35:44):
they show their athleticism in so many.
Speaker 3 (35:47):
Different ways on the baseball field. So it was pretty exciting.
Speaker 1 (35:51):
But another exciting part of it is when you get
a picture that is on fire, and the picture for
the Milwaukee who has taken major League Baseball by storm
is been able to do some things that a lot
of folks haven't been able to do, especially when you're
facing the Dodgers, and what he was able to do
(36:14):
yesterday was pretty amazing. It doesn't struck out twelve Dodgers
in the first five innings.
Speaker 3 (36:28):
That does not happen. It has never happened in Major
League Baseball.
Speaker 1 (36:34):
So what we've been able to witness back to back
or in one day we saw two inside the park
home runs, and then we saw a pitcher throw.
Speaker 3 (36:47):
What you give up? Four hitch yesterday to the Dodgers.
Speaker 1 (36:51):
He and he was going up against Clayton Kershaw, who
just got three thousand strikeouts. And this guy is just
making he's a rookie in the major leagues.
Speaker 3 (37:00):
Smoke.
Speaker 1 (37:00):
Yeah, Jason Miseowski struck out twelve Dodgers through five innings.
So for him to be able to do what he
was able to do and continue to be four and
one strong, outing every single time, throwing one hundred miles
an hour on a lot of those pitches. But he
(37:20):
did you know you did face show? Hey, O Tony
and O Tony did get him. That's how good old
Tny is.
Speaker 11 (37:27):
You.
Speaker 3 (37:29):
Yeah you can crown him.
Speaker 1 (37:31):
Yeah yeah, Show is like anybody can get it. Yeah,
he's not afraid to exactly. And last night you got
Aaron Judge. He also hit a home run yesterday. Carl
Kyl Riley, the big Dumpster.
Speaker 3 (37:52):
Uh, he's got.
Speaker 1 (37:53):
Thirty six home runs before the break. John Carlos stanton
his back, he hit his second and Judge hit his
thirty fourth. So you starting to see your Yankees, Mark,
They're trying to get some things together. They're fifty to
forty one, twenty seven and seventeen at home. So the
Yankees and the Dodgers still cream of the crop when
(38:14):
it comes to baseball. But the Dodgers got handled yesterday. Yeah,
those ten loss in a row really took the steam
off of it. Hey, Like you said, you could catch
them hands. And the Toronto Blue Jays are a team
that won ten in a row. So there's a lot
that's going on in Major League Baseball. As we get
(38:34):
closer and closer to they all start breaking interesting.
Speaker 3 (38:38):
Our number one is in the books. Our number two
is just around the corner.
Speaker 1 (38:43):
Dak Prescott, Yeah, we hear you, Dakota. I'm ready to
right here on the morning Kickoff on sports Radio AM
thirteen hundred The Zone.
Speaker 3 (38:52):
Crown them.
Speaker 1 (38:54):
Welcome back to our number two of the morning Kickoff
right here on sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone
and our number one. We talked about the SEC media
days in Texas, taking Arch Manning, Anthony Hill Junior, and
Michael taff. We also figured out Colin Simmons is him.
We also heard about Kirk Cousins on the new season
of Quarterback on Netflix talking about being in Atlanta and
(39:18):
leaving Minnesota. We also talked to Danny Davis of the
Austin American Statesman. We also found out that Mark Henry
does not want to crown b John Robinson yet, which
is okay, Which is okay, I'm glad. No, just because
I said it's okay don't mean it's right.
Speaker 3 (39:38):
Okay, all right, No, that's that's not right. Number one
counts to me. That's fine, that's fine. I spent my
whole life worried about being number one. That's that's outstanding.
That's outstanding. Way to go.
Speaker 2 (39:51):
And right now until Satkwan Barker gets knocked off the tower.
Speaker 1 (39:57):
Yeah, he's number one and I won't be jeh to
do it now. Thank you for his motivation. You you
have now become his motivation. Vijon go to work, homie,
and just like that, we're gonna be in the award
speech exactly, Mark Henry, I want to thank you for
the motivation, motivating men, for telling me to keep striving.
And I'm gonna number one standing up there being his
(40:18):
hype man. Hey, I'm gonna be his hype man. I'm
gonna have the Danzel Clap'm gone.
Speaker 3 (40:23):
So I took that serious. I took that person. I
took that personal.
Speaker 1 (40:29):
Somebody that takes him personal is Dak Prescott. Dak Prescott
the quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys. He's heard all the noise,
he's heard all the stories, but right now he wants
you to know he's ready to go.
Speaker 8 (40:42):
I'm healthy.
Speaker 3 (40:42):
I bey, I'll be full both for count I'm healthy.
Speaker 5 (40:45):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (40:46):
Look, I think soon here, I'll probably get a conficial sign.
Speaker 3 (40:49):
Off from doctor. But he's gonna be ready to go.
Speaker 1 (40:52):
He's gonna get it officially done because he's been dealing
with the hamstring issue from last year.
Speaker 3 (40:58):
He looks amazing. Man, It's like he's done seen him
look this good, even when he came out of college.
Speaker 1 (41:04):
Yeah, he is a he's in a good space right now.
He's in a very good space, ready to go. It
is time for him to ascend. We've talked about it.
I bragged about it. I've been on his side from
day one. I'm probably one of probably his only fan.
I mean, I'm the one that's always going to bat
(41:26):
for him. So I appreciate the work that he puts in.
I appreciate his leadership. I've got some buddies that work
for the Cowboys. They they tell all the time about
how big of an asset he is to everyone.
Speaker 3 (41:40):
That is involved. So I'm excited about it.
Speaker 1 (41:43):
But one thing that Dak Prescott is excited about is
his new wide receiver duo.
Speaker 3 (41:48):
It's more. I was big with Marii Cooper. I know
a lot of people like margin. I loved him. I'm like,
the dude was clutch. I mean he always made a play.
Speaker 1 (41:57):
He was teaching the younger players about route running, and
he was engaged all the time. But Dak is liking
what he's seeing from CD Lamb and new acquisition George Pickens.
Speaker 3 (42:09):
What about it.
Speaker 8 (42:10):
That's two guys that want the other guy to succeed
just as much seeing it firsthand. Just them too, hanging
out and neither by a standard. I go in the house,
you know, purposely for a little bit, you know, and
just peeking at him. They love each other, they love
each other's company, they love each other's game. They're just
watching them on the field, them talking to each other,
to them just being one on one. Like I said,
on the porches, they're going to push each other and
(42:32):
to be the guy that gets to get them the ball.
It's exciting as hell because you can turn on O
TA tapes and one of one of the guys the
balls in there and the other ones got his hands
up celebrating already. We just got to continue to glow
that and continue to yeah, make sure that that's trending
the right way.
Speaker 3 (42:45):
I own a lot of that, Yeah, a lot of that.
Speaker 2 (42:48):
Yeah, And it's hard to run a route hard as
you can run it and you know you're not getting
the ball, and that's that's what's going to happen with
these guys.
Speaker 3 (42:58):
Yeah, you're like, you have to make.
Speaker 2 (43:01):
Have a great understanding that I still got to run
this route to make it sell it. Yeah, you know,
And that's the term not only in wrestling, but that's
the term they use in the NFL, with you know,
selling a route like you gotta sell it. And I
can see Dak having a really good season if these
guys can stay healthy, well, if he can stay healthy.
(43:22):
I mean that's the other part of it too, because
over the last few seasons he's had to deal with
some injuries and not being there for the squad, not
because he don't want to be, but just because of
the fact that he hasn't been healthy enough. I've also
seen rave reviews from what we've been watching with Joe Milton.
Joe Milton has done an excellent job of acclimating himself
(43:45):
with the Dallas Cowboys.
Speaker 3 (43:47):
You know, you said something last.
Speaker 1 (43:49):
Week, Mark where the noise right, there hasn't been a
lot of noise coming out of Dallas. Obviously, the Cavante
Turpin situation of him getting popped is one thing. But
you look at the Dallas Cowboys and the fact that
they have kind of stay quiet during this off season.
So it has been a different look for the Dallas Cowboys,
(44:12):
to say the least.
Speaker 3 (44:14):
It's not only been a different look, but it's a
good look. Yeah, Like you know, coach Setting Hammer, I'm
sure that he had to have that tough talk with coach,
with the.
Speaker 2 (44:24):
Owner Jerry Jones for the trip keeper as you call him.
You need to have that conversation coach. You know, everybody
say coach, you know you don't know, but you still coach.
Speaker 3 (44:36):
Well, he thinks he's the coaching Yeah, he does think
he is. But you got to say, listen, we gotta
flow under radar.
Speaker 2 (44:42):
We don't want to give people ammunition and we don't
want people digging and knowing what we're doing, Like, let's
let's keep it to a minimum.
Speaker 3 (44:49):
I'm sure that that was a very difficult conversation to have. Absolutely, absolutely.
Speaker 1 (44:54):
And then you start to look at what's going on
with the with the wide receiving Corps and ESP has
Dallas ranked number eleven as the top wide receivers in
the NFL. You look at what CD CD lamp excuse me,
what was able to do. Then you bring in a
guy like George Pickens to replace Michael Gallup and Brandon Cooks.
(45:17):
You start to understand that this is an important part.
Then you also have Jake Ferguson at tight end.
Speaker 3 (45:24):
I was just about to say that the checkdown is
gonna be Dak's friend, always has been. And now you
have a running back that can get out of the
backfield in the flats in our own University of Texas,
Jayden Blue. Jayden Blue that he could take one to
the house if he gets twenty feet.
Speaker 10 (45:44):
I got a quick question, when is the last time
the Cowboys has had two receivers of this caliber at
the same time.
Speaker 3 (45:52):
IRV and Alvin Harper.
Speaker 1 (45:53):
No, I think it's also CD Lamb and Amari Cooper.
They were good. They were good together. They were really
good together. So then they had gallup at third. Yeah,
so yeah, I think that they they've had some big
numbers put up at the wide receiver position. But the
main reason why is because Dak Prescott was the quarterback.
Speaker 3 (46:13):
You also can go back to Daz Bryant too.
Speaker 1 (46:16):
Daz Bryant had some good wide receiver before Terrence Williams
lost his mind and you know, started getting getting them
streets a little bit up in the DFW are bridges
to big, Yeah, yeah, he was. He was really excited
about what was going on in Dallas, to say the least.
But you start to understand. You start looking at this
(46:37):
team and you say, okay, the elements are there. The
one question that I believe that you had is what
are they going to do with the offensive line. Well,
you start to look at what Tyler Geidon, Tyler Smith
and now Tyler Booker being able to run that. You
got Connor bb getting better and better every single day
(46:57):
at center, and then you got to get and still
to step up because you gave them that contract.
Speaker 2 (47:03):
Turn Turn Steel is the best pass blocker out of
all those guys. Those guys are elite run blockers. Elite
run blockers and in three hundred and thirty five pounds,
the lightest.
Speaker 3 (47:15):
Guys three thirty yep. Like that's man. That's a lot
of man like. Let them guys. For them to be.
Speaker 2 (47:25):
I'm gonna punch you before this ship is over, listen,
for them to have a skill set of great running blockers,
great run blockers. Does that does that affect the past blocking?
You think that they'll have as much problem with the
past blocking.
Speaker 3 (47:45):
This year, being that you know Dak wants to throw
the ball to those two star wide receivers.
Speaker 1 (47:51):
Well, I don't think it'll be that much of a
change because I know that he also wants to stay upright,
so he wants to run the football.
Speaker 2 (48:01):
The play action would be the thing that's gonna benefit
them the best. Like this past block enough to get
that three to four seconds off right, I see seconds.
Speaker 1 (48:09):
A long time, I see. I saw a video the
other day of Miles Sanders. We might be sleeping on
Miles Sanders. I think this is a guy. Him and
Javonte Williams are two guys that have a lot to prove.
These guys are are are been bounced around from different teams,
and you start to really understand that.
Speaker 3 (48:31):
Okay, I get a chance. Now I get a chance,
and I get to put the star on my helmet
because you know, you go to Dallas, man, you go
there and play, well, it changes your life. It changes
your life. They're too right. Look at what happened to
Tony Pollard.
Speaker 1 (48:50):
Tony Pollard got his opportunity and now he's making more
money in in Tennessee. So this light that is being
shine on you by playing for the Dallas Cowboys, whether
you like it or not, it's like playing for the
Texas Longhorns.
Speaker 3 (49:06):
The light in the microscope is on you. So you're saying,
we have a chance, Well, what'd you say the other day?
Speaker 1 (49:12):
We got Texas winning the Super Bowl and the Cowboys
went and.
Speaker 3 (49:15):
Didn't man a playoff game, and just give me one, guy,
just give me one. Yeah? Yeah, I like it. I
like it. I like what I'm seeing, I'm liking what
I'm hearing. But I know, my boy Goocha's over there
talking about.
Speaker 1 (49:31):
Why are you talking about the clowns. I'm telling you
they are. The circus is coming out. The circus is
coming to town, baby, and I'm.
Speaker 3 (49:39):
All for I'm gonna have my makeup on the nose and.
Speaker 1 (49:43):
Everything, but may it gonna be clowned out. I cannot
wait for it. So Cowboys are next. They're gonna be excited. Uh,
Trayvon Diggs, your favorite player will be back. You got
Donovan Wilson, you got Molik Hooker, you got everybody on
the squad looking good. So it's gonna be a fun,
fun time. We're gonna stay with the NFL, but we're
(50:03):
going down to the Dirty South. Oh, we're gonna talk
about the Atlanta Falcons. Oh, b Jonn Robinson, star of
the show, dude.
Speaker 3 (50:12):
A dirty bird right here.
Speaker 1 (50:13):
Coming up next, we're gonna talk NFL South right here
on the morning kickoff on sports Radio AM thirteen hundred
The Zone. We've got conversations all day about the Atlanta Falcons.
We're gonna be in Atlanta for SEC media Days. There's
so much that will be going on the entire time there.
But as we get ready to get closer to it,
(50:35):
we're gonna talk about the a excuse me, n FC South.
The NFC South has been pretty much run by Tampa
Baker Mayfield. What he's been able to achieve during his
time in Tampa, he's found a way to reinvent himself
in the.
Speaker 3 (50:56):
Area of the NFL.
Speaker 1 (50:58):
Matter of fact, he's done so well that one Colin Cowherd,
which you can hear on this station as well, has
flipped his whole story about how he used to go
at Baker Mayfield. Now he's praising Baker Mayfield and what
he's been able to do. So when you look at
the NFC South last year, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers won
(51:20):
it with a ten and seven record. The Atlanta Falcons
were eight and nine. The Panthers and the Saints were
five and two. Think about that. The Saints were five
and two, I mean five and twelve, both teams five
and twelve with the Panthers. Now, I want to start
with Carolina because Carolina is a football team that somehow,
(51:43):
some way found a way to start playing better. Bryce
Young finally had the light go off and now he
is playing like Bryce Young. I kept saying. Bryce Young
has been talented all his life. He understands that he
is a good quarterback. He might be slight, but he's
(52:05):
been slight his entire career, and he's found a way
to be outstanding Heisman Trophy winner.
Speaker 3 (52:13):
Well, now you look at this team and the athletic
has their breakout performer this year is being Jatavian Sanders,
former Texas Longhorn. He was drafted in the fourth round.
Speaker 1 (52:25):
Unfortunately Jonathan Brooks hurt again, not going to be able
to play. But this team is sitting at six and
a half wins over under six and a half Dubs.
Do you believe that they get over I think they
stay right at six. I don't know if they're ready
to take that next step. I know that they believe
(52:47):
that they've got it figured out. They went out and
drafted that big wide receiver from Arizona to come in
and play.
Speaker 3 (52:54):
I just I don't know yet.
Speaker 2 (52:56):
They needed another wide receiver to take the heat off London.
So I'm really thinking that they can do seven if
the only way that they don't go into the plus
this year is somebody gets hurt. I really do feel like,
you know, Michael Pennix is gonna turn no, no, no,
this is the Panthers.
Speaker 1 (53:17):
Oh, the Panthers, the Panthers. This is the Panthers. The
Panthers are sitting at six and a half wins, and yeah,
let's keep the Panthers that sick. Yeah, I believe that
would be the number. They got Xavier Loget, his country self.
Adam Thielen is there. They drafted Jimmy Horn junior. They
(53:38):
have the running game with Chuba Hudder Hubbard, and they
now have rico'dowell. They drafted Travis Etn I mean Trevor
et In. So they've got some pieces that are there,
but their defense needs to be a little bit more
solid as well. That they're back end is gonna be okay,
So I put them right at six wins. I'll put
(53:59):
them at six wins this season, so I'll take the under.
The other team that I still can't believe they only
won five games, and I'm talking to you, Davis, is
the New Orleans Saints. The New Orleans Saints. They're trying
to figure out who's going to be their quarterback. You
got Tyler Shuck that they drafted when they could have
got Shador Sanders.
Speaker 3 (54:20):
But enough on that. Spencer Rattler is there.
Speaker 1 (54:23):
They got a new coach in Kellen Moore who is
trying to figure out what it's like to be a
head coach and try to be in a city that
needs this team to be well, Chris Olave, big time player,
somebody that will definitely, yeah, no doubt. But they're sitting
(54:46):
at six and a half wins. Definitely taking the under.
They got Brandon Cooks as well and Kelvin Banks.
Speaker 3 (54:54):
I think this is the year that they do better
because they injuries, just like Cowboys did when they I mean,
so you got him as seven wins at least seven,
So you're taking the over.
Speaker 1 (55:09):
I'm taking over. Okay, Well, I'm gonna stay right where.
I'm gonna stay right there at six I'm taking an
under on that.
Speaker 11 (55:16):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (55:17):
Now we go to the Atlanta Falcons.
Speaker 1 (55:19):
You were talking about Drake London a little bit ago
and how important uh this big time move for them.
Obviously Bjeon Robinson is a superstar in the making because
he's not there yet making And yeah, he's not there
yet according to the judgment of one Mark Henry. Uh,
(55:39):
but he is loaded with Michael Pennix Jr. We do
have Kyle is Kyle Pitts.
Speaker 3 (55:44):
A bus What this is that he was gonna be
Jason Kelsey and he's not.
Speaker 1 (55:55):
Well, if he was gonna be Jason Kelsey, he was
gonna play so Travis Kelsey yeah, I.
Speaker 3 (56:00):
Do what you bet. You know what I'm saying. I
know what I'm saying.
Speaker 1 (56:03):
Players mess up. I'm not one hundred right now. But
you have Michael Pennix. You also have Kirk Cousins as
the backup quarterback. We heard from him a little bit earlier.
Speaker 3 (56:13):
Speaking of Kirk Cousins, he gets no love even in
in Atlanta.
Speaker 11 (56:20):
Are you a fALS fan, Falfs fan? She like the Saints.
Speaker 3 (56:29):
Yeah, he can't.
Speaker 1 (56:30):
No respect, no respect. They probably didn't even know that
was one of his kids.
Speaker 3 (56:38):
That was good. That was good. But their defense is
a lot better.
Speaker 1 (56:42):
They got aj Terrell at cornerback, Jordan Fuller comes over
from Carolina. Jesse Bates is an absolute freak in the
back end, and then you start looking at the upfront.
Speaker 3 (56:55):
They're gonna be solid. They're gonna be solid.
Speaker 1 (56:57):
They got Leonard Floyd too from San franc Cisco to
play outside linebackers, so they're gonna be solid. Their number
is a bigger number. They're seven and a half wins.
I'm taking the over for Atlanta. I think Michael Pennix
takes an even bigger step this year to be able
to get that.
Speaker 3 (57:16):
So I will see them going over well.
Speaker 1 (57:20):
That brings us to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to won
ten games last year. As I said before, Baker Mayfield,
Michael Evans but have been able to play good football together.
They're still waiting for Josh Gooden Goodwin to be back.
And I don't know how healthy is he gonna be.
I was just gonna say, is he healthy again? I
(57:41):
hope so because he was he was a minute last
year being able to lead that team. So, and they
got the wide receiver from from Ohio State, Amuka a Bouquet,
so he's gonna be out there.
Speaker 3 (57:57):
He's still good the time.
Speaker 1 (57:59):
And they got Cade Adden the tight end, he's solid,
Bucky Irvin at running back, and Rashon White solid solid
on that end. But can their defense be even better
than what it was? Levante David is probably the most
not talked about best linebacker in the game. He is
(58:20):
that talented, no respect, but he is definitely a name
to pay attention to it. And then you have Antonio
Winfield junior. He's still controlling the safety position. He's a
he's a head hunter.
Speaker 3 (58:37):
He will come and knock you out.
Speaker 1 (58:39):
And they brought in Hassan Reddick Hassan Reddick being able
to come in. I think their defense via Veta Vita
Veya is on the defensive tackle.
Speaker 3 (58:49):
I don't care how old he is. He's a monster.
Speaker 2 (58:52):
You cannot push him backward. I've never seen him go backward. Right,
So like that, that's why they're lying by can be
able to move around him. That's why, as zero knows,
is so important in that Tampa two defense, right right.
Speaker 1 (59:07):
So I got him at that, they got him at
nine and a half wins. I'm gonna take the over.
I just think that they're as Baker Mayfield has matured
along the way, I've seen him play better. He's a
calm quarterback now. He still has his fieriness, but he's
not out of control. Baker Mayfield, I can't believe I'm
(59:29):
giving him so much love right now. He is talented
and he is the best quarterback in that division. Go
through the list. He's the most experienced for sure, and
I think Michael Pennix is the most talented quarterback.
Speaker 3 (59:45):
Once again, a guy that has a talented I said talented,
I ain't crowning, but he hasn't been crowned yet. Right
thrown Baker Mayfield as the best quarterback in that division.
He's gonna be a guy with a lot of potential.
Could the Falcons jump the Bucks?
Speaker 2 (01:00:03):
They could if this wide receiver that came from Arizona
can take the pressure off drink London.
Speaker 3 (01:00:09):
And they can score the ball. He's with the Panthers.
With the Panthers, Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, you right.
Speaker 2 (01:00:14):
Why do I get the Panthers in Atlanta's personnel mixed up?
Speaker 3 (01:00:19):
I don't know why.
Speaker 1 (01:00:20):
Yeah, because they're not even the same animal. We don't
have to go to break because I can feel my
hands get into my neck. Mee troupe.
Speaker 3 (01:00:37):
When we come back.
Speaker 1 (01:00:38):
Well, you're gonna hear from the world's strongest man as
he brings you his world's.
Speaker 3 (01:00:43):
Strongest on back.
Speaker 1 (01:00:44):
Make sure you stick around for it right here on
the morning kickoff on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred the
zone be drop. It can only need one thing. W
we All of Famer and the world's strongest man. His
name is the Mark Henry, but he's bringing you his
world's strongest take. Take it away, big fella hard. What's
(01:01:06):
up man?
Speaker 3 (01:01:06):
You know what time it is.
Speaker 2 (01:01:08):
It's time for the world's strongest take by the world's
strongest man. My guess back then they didn't know me.
Now that I'm hot, they are all on me. Guys,
what's up the University of Texas. Holy cow, Coach Miller
(01:01:33):
has he's done it and it's not over and we're
not gonna crown anybody just yet.
Speaker 3 (01:01:39):
This is the non crown show. But we always talk
about how the University of Texas always finds a way
to get guards. We always get guards, regardless of whatever
that you.
Speaker 2 (01:01:52):
Uh watch University of Texas basketball, there's always been a
guard that you can identify with and hang your hat on.
But where we always lacked is the big power forward,
the big center. You know, we haven't had a gay
maneki in a long time, a guy that's just tough, strong,
(01:02:15):
tries to throw the ball through the backboard, and they
got one. Declan Duru from Germany and an international player
as well. Is signed with the University of Texas. And
(01:02:38):
I went through the rabbit hole of watching his youth
basketball all the way to his making the seventeen under
Olympic team, to him making the national team and him
playing just like Luca, playing pro as a seventeen year
(01:03:00):
old and as an eighteen year old now he's you know,
he's coming to the University of Texas. He had some
struggles shooting the three, and for whatever reason, a big
giant dude like him fell in love with shooting the three.
Speaker 3 (01:03:17):
And I'm like, okay, let's reprogram this cat.
Speaker 2 (01:03:21):
Like you are six', nine two hundred and forty five,
POUNDS i need you to get in that.
Speaker 3 (01:03:26):
Post and he is a very active.
Speaker 2 (01:03:30):
Defender he, can he, can and he led the team
in steals at power forward. Guys he's got active, hands
he's got good, instincts And i'm looking forward to Seeing
university Of texas basketball rise to the. Occasion Coach miller
said that he's going to build in the, recruiting but
(01:03:55):
he wanted the three pillars that he wanted to really
put on the map with is the portal and the international.
Players he, SAID i always want to dip into the international,
market and we have not done that as a. University
texas has not dipped into that international, market pulling guys From,
(01:04:20):
australia pulling guys From, china pulling guys From canada and so. Forth,
now Coach miller said that he's going to make that
a priority And i'm looking really forward to.
Speaker 3 (01:04:32):
It this is great news for The university Of texas.
Speaker 2 (01:04:36):
Basketball we're proud of our women and we want our
men to rise of the same.
Speaker 3 (01:04:42):
Occasion hard to what say, YOU i agree with.
Speaker 1 (01:04:44):
YOU i, mean this is something that has been on
the horizon for quite some. Time, obviously recruiting is, huge
but when you look At texas's current roster as of right,
now and this is with this young man coming to
The university Of texas six' nine six eight six nine
(01:05:05):
six seven six six seven, to two six foot six eight,
six ten seven foot six three and, six four they loan,
big time, big time and that has never been, that
way not, like this not across. The board when you
start to think about what it's like to play IN,
(01:05:27):
the SEC the sec is a totally. Different beast but
With coach miller's history and what he's been able to
see from being In The, big east from being In the,
pac twelve from being in all the different conferences in
which he has, participated in he.
Speaker 3 (01:05:47):
Knows, what drives he knows what is going to help
a team in the.
Speaker 1 (01:05:54):
Long run texas has a dude that's seven to two
and another dude that's Seven foot when does that. Ever
happen never where do they?
Speaker 3 (01:06:05):
Do. That exactly i've Been watching texas basketball since, eighty
Eight and i've never seen two seven footers on the.
Speaker 2 (01:06:14):
Same team The Closest LaMarcus Aldridge And. Kevin durant, you
Know but kevin was six' eight at the time he
was where. He, is now yeah he wasn't a guy that.
Speaker 1 (01:06:24):
He, is now yeah it's a it's a Totally different new. Texas,
basketball team yeah and it's a new Era at The. University.
Speaker 2 (01:06:36):
Of texas yeah the thing about it is you see
these international players being more, Developed skill wise AND that's
what i Was, Saying, about declan like he is very
developed for an, eighteen year old but he's.
Speaker 3 (01:06:53):
He's still Got so much how big and.
Speaker 2 (01:06:55):
Strong do you think he's going to be after being
in the Weight program at texas and eating real food,
because you know these kids hit me cookies and bags
and chips and stuff, for, a meal right and now
he's Going to grow he maybe have the potential to
BE seven feet i mean. He's, only eighteen yeah he's
(01:07:17):
going to have a great opportunity to get better and
better as you continue. To move forward so for me
watching this and being able to understand exactly what this
team is.
Speaker 3 (01:07:30):
Trying to become that's the biggest difference because we got a.
Speaker 1 (01:07:34):
Whole new staff it's like the only person that Remained
Here Is, chris ogden chris and he's the, director, Of
operations right so nobody on this staff is the same
as what it is what it was.
Speaker 3 (01:07:48):
The previous years so with all, that being.
Speaker 1 (01:07:51):
Said they the culture change is now happening and we're
starting to.
Speaker 2 (01:07:57):
See it firsthand but we have people that's on the
watch LIST on the. Nba, watch list yeah like that's
that's it's. Been a while and they're recruiting at a
high level as well. For next year so you You Look,
at austin gooseby he's the number two player shooting guard
in the.
Speaker 3 (01:08:16):
Country and he can. Go get it i've. Seen it
firsthand and his brothers the one of the Best players
all texas on.
Speaker 1 (01:08:26):
The offensive line so you start to see what type
of player. THEY'RE looking At i think austin's, like six,'
five you know so he's long. Too and moves effortless
but you start to understand what the Foundation is For
the university of texas and what.
Speaker 3 (01:08:43):
They're trying To become.
Speaker 2 (01:08:44):
And if I'm, a GUARD like gooseby And i see
that texas is bringing in these seven feet six six six, eight,
six nine forwards man that's gonna. Make my job easier so,
like they're they're. Man they're doing right they know, what
the future holds and they're painting a.
Speaker 3 (01:09:02):
Pretty.
Speaker 1 (01:09:02):
Damn, Good picture hard yeah i'm really really excited about
what the future can bring because of the fact that
it's a New era At the university of texas and
what we're starting to see is something that's.
Speaker 3 (01:09:15):
Even better every. Step of the way we'll.
Speaker 1 (01:09:18):
Come back close out the show And Send, you to
dan patrick but we will HAVE conversation about the nba and.
The possibility of expansion we'll explain right here on the
Morning KICKOFF on sports Radio Am. Thirteen hundred the zone
another great. Show in the books we TALKED A Lot,
(01:09:39):
about sec media days as they will be. Coming up
Next Week, we talked kirk Cousins We, TALKED, To Danny
davis mlb DAK prescott And n fc south mark just
had a great take on recruiting and if you missed any,
parts of the show all you gotta, do is.
Speaker 3 (01:09:58):
AND Yeah, my god, B Jon.
Speaker 1 (01:10:00):
That's right bjon mustardson make sure you Download the always
free iHeartRadio app and get over to the podcast page wherever.
You get your PODCAST and right now I wanted to
talk nba real quick because. News just, Came Out right
now chet hongren not only Did He Get did shae gilchris? Alexander?
(01:10:21):
Get His money now chet hongren. Is getting his money he,
signed a five year two hundred and fifty million dollars
deal and he's got to look at the money That Between,
he and chay gilchris they running them their money. And
that's the foundation and that's something that we've. Been talking
(01:10:42):
about before they are building right. Around their young superstars
so do you do you paid THE big. MONEY to,
jw two i mean it's Gonna be hard to it's
gonna be hard to pay. All of those guys you
might you might as. Well pay him now He Might
be the james harden of this school and. They, have to,
TRADE yeah uh man. I will try to i will.
Speaker 3 (01:11:05):
Try to. KEEP them we could i would definitely try to,
keep young man like go ahead and get sign him,
up for Five years Just, like chet and shay and
then you just operate around that big three and keep
using those draft picks to keep bringing in guys to,
fill those other roles to. Bring, in role players yeah
(01:11:25):
So it is a, it is. A big big move
but also a big move IS talking about the nba
and The Possible, expansion As Mark spears not marcus spears
talk see about talks. About THE possible expansion.
Speaker 13 (01:11:41):
And i talked to A high level person nba today
and they said it's leaning towards perhaps expansion.
Speaker 3 (01:11:48):
Coming soon this summer but it's.
Speaker 13 (01:11:49):
Not a, no brainer you know when, the owners come
in all the numbers are going to, come, in with
them right and.
Speaker 3 (01:11:54):
That league's doing.
Speaker 13 (01:11:55):
Good they're About to. Do the europe thing THEY'RE Making,
money with nba africa.
Speaker 3 (01:12:00):
Which.
Speaker 13 (01:12:00):
Had better attendance china they're making a Bunch. Of money
in china so when, you look at it all these,
owners look at it do you want to share a?
Speaker 3 (01:12:07):
Piece? Of the Pie.
Speaker 13 (01:12:08):
Now it's like domino's, it's all. Good money good money
so they'll sit back and look at it because when
it comes to you go from one thirtieth to one,
thirty second long term.
Speaker 3 (01:12:18):
So you're cutting.
Speaker 13 (01:12:19):
More piece, to pie so yeah there's a expectation probably
about a six billion dollars for whatever.
Speaker 3 (01:12:24):
That team comes, in but long term is that worth
the squeeze for? Expansion in the teams you know what?
Teams Need, To, go first vegas yeah that's gonna be
the that's gonna be the one that's.
Speaker 2 (01:12:36):
Gonna be number one and second they need to put Another.
TEAM back in seattle i agree. With you, ON that
like that i was so unfair for the owner to
Move The team to oklahoma city after he said when, He,
purchased that team oh, we're not moving, right we're staying
here and then right in the middle of the night,
when everybody was sleep they packed up All The.
Speaker 3 (01:13:00):
Box, to oklahoma, city yeah like that that.
Speaker 2 (01:13:05):
Was so unfair man and you talk about a, Historically,
great basketball COMMUNITY uh THROUGH the a b a all
the WAY, Up until the nba seattle.
Speaker 3 (01:13:16):
Always Had great basketball.
Speaker 1 (01:13:17):
The SuperSonics many doing that thing when you, you look
at basketball Like You hear the ruger league and you,
Hear about You, know fondee in houston like they have The.
Same thing in, seattle like you know there's been so
many guys that have come, from THAT basketball, community and
i mean.
Speaker 3 (01:13:37):
IT'S it's just unfair i just feel like that they
got a RAW. Deal in the nba need.
Speaker 10 (01:13:41):
To make it Right, Speaking Speaking of seattle gary payton
refuses to get his Number retired by the thunder because.
Speaker 3 (01:13:48):
He never, played there he says it Has. To be
in seattle. What, AN honorable guy well i don't, know
ABOUT all that but i understand where. YOU'RE going with it.
I like that though i like a man. Stand, on
his principal yeah just like you did. On, me THE. Thing. Yeah,
Like bija so.
Speaker 1 (01:14:07):

all of these teams, and what's going, on it's an
exciting exciting time when when we're getting closer and. Closer
(01:15:55):
to football season it was KIND of funny because I
was listening to uh to two Pros and a couple
joe on the way In This morning and LaVar harrington
SAYS something that was i actually agreed with for, the
first time ever for the first time over it's not
that this has, been the slow season because they always
talk about the summertime as the. Toughest in sports media
(01:16:18):
it's not that that was. Even part of it the
problem was, there was no football and everybody. Wants, to
talk football well we found a way all summer, long
to talk football and we're going to continue, to TALK football,
because as i. SAID we'll Hear hopefully i think, dion

as some radio Host Is talked about pat mahomes, being
Out of, Shape and i'm like i'll.
Speaker 3 (01:17:01):

Be in the. Super bowl every year we'll see. How
That Plays, out for mark Henry, for my guy marcus,
For you the people i'm hardball hard, and just remember
this don't, believe everything you see because even. Salt looks
like sugar. Have, a great one peace
