(01:37):

Speaker 2 (02:03):
Mark. Let's get right into it, man, because two things.
Number one, how was your weekend? You good? Everybody good?
I'm good.

Speaker 1 (02:10):
But I almost didn't make it for the show today
because I came in to the studio and Marcus had
the temperature on hell.

Speaker 2 (02:21):
I was sweating.

Speaker 1 (02:23):
I'm okay, now, I just turned the air conditioner and
air condition I just turned the conditioning in the studio
down to a bombing, bombing sixty five degrees. I will
be okay shortly. Well, Marcus in studio. I am in Dallas, Texas.

(02:44):
Still was up here for a basketball tournament. And man,
how did my guy do?

Speaker 2 (02:50):
Man?

Speaker 3 (02:51):
He did well, he did well. He did well again.
So I got a lot of recognition. It was the
last tournament for GASO that we got a chance to
play in, and we got one more basketball tournament coming
up this weekend when I go on vacation, we'll be
going to another tournament and then we'll take an actual vacation.

(03:12):
But things are good. They went to and one this weekend.
I had a chance to play. But we played a
team and when I say they can shoot shoot, they
could shoot shoot. They made fourteen. They made fourteen threes
in a game bro fourteen and so it was interesting.
We had one guy in the second gig or the

(03:33):
last game hit eight threes, so it was very ambassive. Yeah,
eight threes by himself. Yeah, they had fourteen as a team.
This one guy had ten all those fourteen. So it
was like, I mean seven seven of those fourteen. It
was kind of crazy.

Speaker 1 (03:49):
But anyway, so I want to go down to San Antonio.
You mentioned San Antonio in your opening and Coach Start
had an opportunity to talk to the Texas High School
Coaches Association, and you know, Sark addresses a lot of things,
but he also puts up the fact that, and he's
proud of this number. Texas had twenty three players drafted

(04:11):
in the last two seasons.

Speaker 4 (04:13):
We've had twenty three draft picks the last two years,
which is the most in the country. And we had
eleven two years ago and twelve this year. Of those
twenty three players drafted, nineteen of those players are from
the state of Texas. You know, we had nine two
years ago get drafted from the state of Texas and
we had ten this year get drafted from the state

(04:34):
of Texas. So this is vitally important for us and
our ability to recruit our state. But like anything, you know,
I think one of the challenges is where's that where
do you draw the line, the fine line of we
have to make sure that we're recruiting a roster that
can compete for national championships, but at the same token,
make sure that we're that we're continually recruiting the best

(04:57):
players in the state of Texas. And we don't get
to sign a and there's a lot of really good
schools in our own state.

Speaker 2 (05:02):
And I've touched on this numerous times.

Speaker 4 (05:05):
I think as much as people view US and maybe
some other schools in our state for recruiting out of
the state, I think a lot of schools are recruiting
in our state as well, and a lot of players
are a lot more apt.

Speaker 2 (05:16):
To leave the state.

Speaker 4 (05:18):
And it's gonna be something I talked about here today
that I think we all and I'm gonna praise all
the programs because really, what coach Elko is doing at
A and M, what rerhtt has been doing at SMU,
the commitment obviously, what Joey is doing at Tech, what
dave I Rann has been doing at Baylor, the track
record of Willie of the success he's had. Houston's gonna

(05:40):
get going. There's so many great programs in our state.
I don't know that kids need to leave, but I
do think that the kids need guidance of why they
should stay. And there's a lot of advantages to that
which I won't get into. But we're in our boat's
not different than most. At the end of the day,
our job is to recruit the best roster that we
can of the character of kids with the talent that

(06:02):
they have. That put us in a really good position
to compete and to compete for championships. And so I
would love not to have to leave our state, but
it inevitably, you know, history tells me we're not gonna
sign all the best players every year from.

Speaker 2 (06:14):
The state of Texas.

Speaker 4 (06:15):
Some are going to go to other schools within our state,
some are gonna leave, and at that point we then
we then.

Speaker 2 (06:21):
Have to go, you know, kind of find them in
other places.

Speaker 4 (06:23):
And to think that, I think a couple few years
ago we were playing from behind with that mindset. We've
shifted our focus a little bit to be a little
bit more aggressive, but that's just the reality of the
state of recruiting right now. I wish we could corral
it a little bit better than we have, and that's
gonna be a goal of mine over the next twelve

(06:44):
to twenty four months as we continue to you know,
we've always had short term goals, but long term goals,
how do we corral the state better than we have?
And I don't think it's just University of Texas. I
think it's all the schools involved to make that happen.
I think there's a responsibility on our end. I think
that's responsibility from the high school coaches to do that
because I think we would all love for the players

(07:05):
that play high school football in the state of Texas
to go to one of our schools and to have
success and to compete for championships and to graduate from
college and and to get drafted into the NFL. And
and so I do think that we're putting a product
on the field that that that that models that, and
we have numbers to back that up.

Speaker 2 (07:24):
But now we've got to recruit that way as well.

Speaker 1 (07:26):
All Right, I just want to go on record right
now saying that I'm going to be the translator for
co Sart. We want the best players in Texas to
stay in Texas and there And even though he said
we all named Allie, he really meant I I really
want you to come here. And for all those people

(07:49):
that say, well, why did you recruit this guy? Why
didn't we get listen, he went to an m or
he went to Alabama. We're gonna go into their neighborhoods
and we're gonna recruit that guy. And if you want
me to stay at your backyard, leave my people along
they hours.

Speaker 2 (08:09):
So basically it was his should knight speech if you.

Speaker 1 (08:13):
Don't want nobody dancing in your videos, That's sactly what
it was. Well it's ironic that that is the conversation
that was being had, and then you have this commitment
from one running back out of the state of Florida,
stay out our yard the man.

Speaker 2 (08:35):
Above, because without him, I wouldn't, you know, be here.

Speaker 4 (08:38):
I like to think my family, my friends, my coaching staff,
my mentors, just without doing people you know on the
world would be out in life.

Speaker 2 (08:48):
I would like to think the five schools.

Speaker 5 (08:50):
You know, these schools are really good, great schools, and
I feel like any choice couldn't go wrong.

Speaker 1 (08:56):
But you know, with that being said, I'll be for
the next three four years.

Speaker 2 (09:02):
I'll be committed to the University of Texas, Go.

Speaker 3 (09:15):
Long home, University of Texas.

Speaker 2 (09:19):
I love it.

Speaker 1 (09:20):
But I'm just gotta go on recordar saying this because
if I don't say it now, it won't never count.
I won't be able to say it again. Mama, be quiet,
Can we finish already? Dang?

Speaker 3 (09:35):
But why though? Why why are we why do we
have to make it so dramatic. I know, run it back.
I know he's the best player, I get it. But
come on, man, just I'm going to the University of Texas.
I made my commitment. Here we go. I'm excited to
be going to the University of Texas. I hope they
can hold on to me for the rest of this

(09:56):
I hope they can hold on to me for the
rest of these six months.

Speaker 1 (09:59):
You know why he did it It clicks and likes. Yeah,
these kids, they the more valuable their social medias are,
the more money they get. But when they doing this
before social media popped off, he still has kids. Yeah,
because people want to be known. Yeah, but now that
you can make money with being known, it's even more

(10:23):
of a premium on creating the more buzz for yourself.
As long as the mom didn't just walk off walk
off stage like other mothers. Oh yeah, that's because she
took a little pay that she was trying to figure out.
Oh damn, I gonna have to get his money back.
Like that was great though. Yeah, good job of bringing

(10:44):
that up, Marcus.

Speaker 2 (10:45):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (10:46):
Well, and the other things too, Like we talked about,
you start to look at the financial windfall and how
everything's being done now and the changes that are happening
in college football has now become a must seashell from everybody.

Speaker 2 (11:03):
Our number one, we're just getting started.

Speaker 3 (11:06):
In our number one of the Morning Kickoff on a
Longhorns Monday edition, we're going to continue the conversation. Thirteen
Longhorns made the All SEC Team, and one particular Longhorn
is getting a lot.

Speaker 2 (11:20):
Of buzz as a first rounder.

Speaker 3 (11:22):
Right here on the Morning Kickoff on Sports Radio and
thirteen hundred desone. Welcome back to a Longhorns Monday edition
of the Morning Kickoff right here on Sports Radio and
thirteen hundred the Zone. Coming up in the next segment,
it'll be the Hard Knocks Life, and we will talk
about the expansion of college football and what some coaches

(11:44):
think of that as well. But I wanted to get
into this mark because Texas football has been well represented
when it comes to the SEC All SEC Team, the
players that have had their name called and and the
preseason part of that is something that a lot of

(12:08):
us continue to want to dive into because there's some
players that stand out, like when you put Trey Wisner
as your first teamer, you got DJ Campbell, you got
Colin Simmons, Anthony Hill, and Michael taff But the Trey
Wisner being the first team one is something that I

(12:29):
was kind of interested in because, yes, he's done some
amazing things. He stepped in when he was needed, but
for him to be on that first team with all
the great running backs in the SEC, that one was
an eye opener for me.

Speaker 1 (12:45):
Harje I'm gonna tell you what Trey Wisner is. Trey
Wisner is Priest Holmes. He's a guy that nobody expected
him to be the guy, but he ended up becoming
the guy because he had to. The people in front
of him got hurt. He got an opportunity, he shined
like the brightest light in the box.

Speaker 2 (13:08):
And he's gonna be a guy that's gonna get drafted.

Speaker 1 (13:12):
He's gonna go to a team that may not be
the best team, just like Priests can't see. The Chiefs
sucked before they got priced, and he went in there
and made an all pro. I see Trey Wiser has
gained ten pounds, like he's training like I'm the starter. Yeah,

(13:40):
And sometimes that Neo effect works, And for the people
that always talk in movie terms, like Neo was the
one in the matrix Trey was not the one until
he was. Now he truly believes in himself. He went
in and put the work in, and now he's not

(14:02):
a one hundred and ninety five pound back, he's a
two hundred and five, two hundred and eight pound back.
He put the work in, so I'm anxious to see
how much power he can run with. Now you add
power to his quickness and his ability to catch the
ball out of the backfield in the hustle, you have

(14:24):
a more complete back.

Speaker 2 (14:25):
But now CJ.

Speaker 1 (14:27):
Baxter's back, Clark is back, like Texas running game is
going to be very healthy this year.

Speaker 2 (14:34):
Now the running back room is very deep.

Speaker 1 (14:36):
And again, you know, not taking anything away because like
you said, I think he's done an unbelievable job of
getting himself prepared and and built up for that position.
But it was interesting when it first came out that
I saw who the quarterback was, then I saw who
the tight end was, Then I saw the running back room,

(14:58):
and I was like, wow, that's pretty impressive.

Speaker 3 (15:01):
In the wide receiver room. That got Ryan Wingo on
the second team, which, okay, arch Manning is the third
team quarterback. Jack Injuries is the third string tight end.
By the end of the year, and Trevor Gooseby is
on the third team as well. By the end of
the year, I predict that Gooseby, injuries, and Wingo will

(15:24):
all be on the first team just because those guys
are gonna get more reps and they're gonna get a
chance to play at a very high level because their
Texas will be a featured game every single week.

Speaker 1 (15:37):
And I also think coach Sark is gonna take offense
to that, oh for sure. And if I'm the coach,
if I'm Coasark, I get everybody in the room say, hey, guys,
I'm glad that y'all made these preseason teams, but I
am pissed off. I feel disrespected for you, and I
need you to prove it. I need you to go
out there because I'm going to give you the ball. Wingo,

(16:00):
you you're way better than the thirteen. Trevor, run the
ball to your side. I need you to. I need
you some highlight reels. I need I need to see
some highlight reels.

Speaker 2 (16:12):
Injuries.

Speaker 1 (16:12):
You're gonna get the You're gonna get the check down.
What you do with it is up to you. You're
gonna get your reps like I'm I'm I'm on the
motivational side. You teach him how to do it, and
I'm gonna give you the the the why, the wind,
the where.

Speaker 2 (16:31):
That's you gotta get the how, you know, you know,
they got.

Speaker 1 (16:35):
Great people to teach him how. I'm I'm a mindset guy.
I'm the guy that don't sleep when he lose. If
I lose a rep at practice, I'm telling you tomorrow
you better get some rest because we're going at it
at practice tomorrow. Well, somebody that is going at it
all the time is uh, Anthony Hill. And you're a

(16:58):
little more and more people start to understand who Anthony
Hill is. More and more they realize that this guy
is going.

Speaker 2 (17:06):
To be a monster.

Speaker 1 (17:07):
And this is what people are talking about when it
comes to Anthony Hill.

Speaker 6 (17:12):
You're at number one in Anthony Hill Junior over the
last two years, pundred twenty seven plays where he's made
first contact on the ball carrier, the most of any
returning power for a linebacker. He is a versatile athlete,
wears many hats on the Texas defense. He winds up
everywhere for that defense and down He's a projected top
fifteen pick right now in the twenty twenty six NFL Draft,

(17:34):
and usually for a linebacker is very very high, but
I could totally see that happening for Anthony Hard.

Speaker 1 (17:39):
They might as well give Anthony Hill a hammer and say.

Speaker 2 (17:42):
I need you to go out here, and he hit.

Speaker 1 (17:45):
People in the head because he is attacking people.

Speaker 2 (17:50):
He's the first guy on contact. That's what I was
just about to say.

Speaker 1 (17:56):
I was like, did you hear them say he is
the first guy on content.

Speaker 2 (18:00):
I'll tell you what.

Speaker 1 (18:01):
If I were running back and we're playing Texas, Hey, coach,
can we do some outside zone?

Speaker 2 (18:08):
I want to go in there.

Speaker 1 (18:11):
That dude, Anthony Hill, he said he'd have won, and
he the first one They hit people when they drift,
go inside them tackles.

Speaker 2 (18:19):
No, sir, I don't want that smoke.

Speaker 3 (18:22):
Yeah, that interview that we had with him, and just
being in the same presence of a guy that is
he knows who he is, he knows that he's that
type of player, and he knows that he is going
to rip somebody's head off. If it's not going to
be him, it's gonna be Colin Simmons. These two guys
representing Texas's defense along with Michael taff on the first team. Uh,

(18:47):
and rightfully, so when you break it all down and
you look at who they are. But there's you know,
last week we talked about Justice Terry and what he
was able to what he's going to be able to
bring to this football team. Well, he's gonna be led
by some guys. But there's another guy that is getting
a lot of love and he's from San Antonio and

(19:08):
Coach Stark talked about.

Speaker 2 (19:10):
That at the Texas High School Coaches Association.

Speaker 4 (19:13):
Athlete a guy who did everything in high school from
wildcat quarterback to running back to receiver to even times
looking like a tight end. And so what we've we've
tried to do with Michael here through spring and through
summer is let him hone in on one thing. And
so we've we've we've really got him honed in at
receiver right now.

Speaker 7 (19:34):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (19:34):
And you see real.

Speaker 4 (19:36):
Flashes of the physical ability that he has. But it's
like anything when when you're when you're a jack of
all trades, which he was in high school.

Speaker 2 (19:44):
We're trying to get him to be a.

Speaker 4 (19:45):
Master of one first and then once he can master
that or come close to, then we can start to
let him to spread his wings to do more things
for us. Time will tell the impact that'll have force
this fall. But from where he was day one spring
mall to where he is this middle of July the summer,
the amount of improvement he's made, I mean, I think

(20:07):
probably last what day was that, probably last Thursday was
probably one of his best days. And I've seen him
just feel uncomfortable playing the position and looking natural to him,
and so you know he's going to catch on quickly
because he's such a gifted athlete. But I think time
will tell of the impact they'll have forces.

Speaker 2 (20:25):
Fallow and think about this.

Speaker 3 (20:28):
In case y'all didn't catch the name, it's Michael Terry
out of Alamo Heights barsheldaile player from San Antonio. He's
six three two sixteen playing wide receiver.

Speaker 1 (20:42):
That's ridiculous and they have they have three of them.

Speaker 3 (20:46):
Well, remember we talked about it last week about how
coach Sark made a conscious effort about the size of
the people that he's going to recruit on the dbs
and the wide outs.

Speaker 2 (20:59):
And there's your exams ample. Love it right there.

Speaker 1 (21:01):
Mark Parker Livingstone, another big guy, and people underestimate.

Speaker 2 (21:08):
The size of injuries. Yeah, like injuries.

Speaker 1 (21:12):
That guy is like sixty five, like two sixty five,
and a good blocker too that he can catch it.

Speaker 2 (21:19):
He can catch it hard. I know it's a little weird. Man.
Then energy drink man, I shouldn't be drinking these. I shouldn't.
You're not allowed. But I'm telling you, I'm feeling a
little fire up. I love it. I love it.

Speaker 3 (21:33):
When we come back, you're gonna have the hard Knox life.
As we talk college football playoffs and while we expanded
once again right here on a longhornse Monday edition of
The Morning Kickoff on Sports Radio A thirteen hundreds.

Speaker 1 (21:47):
All.

Speaker 3 (21:48):
Okay, I want to get into this conversation because Park,
as you know, college football, the landscape has obviously changed,
and it's changed a lot. I think it's changed for
the better. I think there's more opportunities for everybody. And
I think that now more than ever, college football needs

(22:11):
to expand its college football playoffs.

Speaker 2 (22:14):
Now.

Speaker 3 (22:15):
We had a conversation with Greg Sanky the other day,
the commissioner of the SEC, and he believes that if
you the number twelve is absolutely great. I thought last
year was outstanding. It was a good battle between all
the other teams and the thought processes of everybody.

Speaker 2 (22:35):
But if you make it more like the.

Speaker 1 (22:38):
NCAA tournament and you say sixty four teams, now that's
a little bit too much.

Speaker 3 (22:45):
Because you gotta be having your mind. You wait, let
me finish, Let me finish. I said, you would have
to understand what each week would look like. You don't
have enough TV packages, right, so there is no package
for football for TV like there is for basketball. So

(23:07):
that is already in play. So now you've got to
see what the inventory looks like. But there is an
opportunity to bring it to what, let's say twenty four,
let's say thirty. And if you listen to coach drick Witz,
he thinks that thirty might be a good number.

Speaker 5 (23:26):
The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over
and over again expecting a different result. If we think
letting a human committee decide the eleven best teams in
college football is the right approach, that is it blows
my mind. We don't love it in basketball, and we
complained about it last year. Why would we add more
to that. Let's decide it on the field, Let's have
playing games. Let's expand it. The two most important people

(23:49):
in college athletics are the are the players and the fans.
It's not the commissioners, it's not the coaches, it's not
the conference alignments, it's not the media. It's the players
and the fans. What's best for them is more access
to games and opportunities. That's best for the players and
it's best for the fans to keep them engaged. So
how do we create more access? If we're going to
expand the playoffs from twelve to fourteen or sixteen, that

(24:11):
is inconsequential. You expand it and now you give thirty
teams opportunities or twenty eight or twenty six, that's consequential.

Speaker 2 (24:18):
That's monumental.

Speaker 5 (24:19):
That's having a mindset that's bigger than just right now.

Speaker 1 (24:23):
Now think about this, and he's spot on.

Speaker 2 (24:28):
When we have to let people do this for us.

Speaker 3 (24:34):
Right, Remember back in the BCS days, the computers were
the ones that were looking at it. And you and I,
I believe, had this conversation about strength of schedules, right,
like strength of schedules, how do you quantify a strength
of a schedule when everybody's not playing the exact same
teams and then you find out that X team who

(25:00):
it is supposed to be really really good.

Speaker 2 (25:03):
Isn't that good?

Speaker 3 (25:04):
Remember last year going into that Michigan game and everybody
was like, Michigan defended national champion, they're this there that Well,
Michigan didn't end up being as good as everybody thought
they were. They were solid, but they weren't as good,
and you still had that doubt. You look at it
across the landscape of college football and the biggest question

(25:26):
is how do you believe that the Big Ten or
the SEC, or the Pac twelve or the Big twelve,
that one conference is more dominant than the other. People
didn't think Texas was going to come into the SEC
and win. What did Texas do? They came in and win.
But it is it because Texas is so good? Or

(25:47):
is it because the conference might have been overrated? Now
we all know that Texas is very good. It was
all about being very, very good and building from the
five and seven season, going and building your franchise the
way that you wanted it. And you got the results
that you wanted in that first year, but you didn't
you still want to win the national championship. But the
point being this mark, when you look at this squad.

(26:11):
And you look at the way that everything is being
set up. I mean not squad, but you look at
college football. It is set up because the money is there.
He talked about the fans, and he talked about the players.
What is the difference. Why not be able to play
a few more games and put yourself there. But they

(26:32):
do not want to be an NFL model. I get that,
but give them another opportunity.

Speaker 1 (26:37):
Well, if you're going to expand it, and you're going
to do that, you have to take the conference championship
out first, agreed no conference championships for anybody. And then
the second thing is you can't play more than ten
games because in that model, now you're going to play
at least three minimum if you win playoff games before

(27:01):
you get to the championship, which now you have fourteen
games played. That's an NFL season. And they're making money
like they're in the NFL.

Speaker 2 (27:13):
I mean, they're paying now, so you might as well
get the most out of it.

Speaker 3 (27:17):
That comes with the fans are paying too. And the
fans are paying too right because they're going to go
they're going to be a part of it.

Speaker 2 (27:25):
But fourteen games, it's a lot of games.

Speaker 3 (27:28):
But I mean think about if Texas has played that
the last two seasons.

Speaker 1 (27:31):
Yeah they played thirteen. Yeah, I mean add another game
to it.

Speaker 2 (27:37):
But here's the deal.

Speaker 1 (27:38):
You have to have the conference champion because that would
be the automatic bidders.

Speaker 2 (27:45):
You're automatically in.

Speaker 3 (27:46):
I mean even in the NFL they have if you
win your division, some of you will have a buye.
But you gotta win your division. You're in the playoffs,
so you get an opportunity, you'll get it opportunity. So
I'm intrigued by what his statement was and I look
forward to it. Also, Texas A and M over over

(28:09):
underwins and I want you to hear this because I'm
taking Texas A and M to win eight games. I
don't understand why people have them under seven and a
half wins.

Speaker 2 (28:19):
Dawn.

Speaker 6 (28:20):
I'm gonna first say it, seven and a half is
way too low for this one to all.

Speaker 2 (28:23):
I'm going over.

Speaker 8 (28:24):
Yeah, it's a tough schedule, but that seems off.

Speaker 2 (28:26):
I think it's a top fifteen team in the country could.

Speaker 8 (28:28):
Compete for that flat. I could Yeah, I could be
in on that. I could see them winning nine or
ten games. I'm in on over seven and a half.
I don't know if that's an old number, if that
needs to be tweaked, or if there's something, if there's
something they know that we don't know. I get it. Look,
Notre Dame Week three is going to be a tough
under name. Yeah, if seven and a half is the number,
I'm taking the over. There's still seven and a half.
We'll see how the standings shake out after we get
all this going. But they're probably a top five team

(28:49):
in the SEC for me.

Speaker 6 (28:50):
I would say so obviously, their top fifteen team in
the country easily, and I think, yeah, they could be
a plaif tender if Marcel redevelops as a passer.

Speaker 3 (28:57):
Wow, I'm just you, man, I'm at that point where
I believe that they can do amazing, amazing things. Not
win the conference, but they can. They're eight and fourteen.
They're like the Cowboys. They're gonna be right there. You
feel me, I hear you. I don't know if I'm

(29:17):
feeling you. I'm taking it. I'm going to Vegas this weekend.
I'm taking that.

Speaker 1 (29:22):
Ben believe well, I'm gonna send twenty dollars with you.
Put twenty dollars on it from me.

Speaker 3 (29:27):
Okay, I got you, I got you coming up next,
Scotty Scheffler. Is he tiger Ish? Well, we're gonna find
out right here on a Longhorns Monday edition of The
Born and kickoff on sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zign.
Welcome back to the morning kickoff right here on sports
Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone. I would be crazy

(29:51):
not to talk about what we've been able to see
from one Scotty Scheffler. Scotty Scheffler has done everything you
could possibly do as a golfer. And the unique thing
is Scotty Scheffler and Tiger Woods won their first and
then their fourth eleven hundred and ninety seven days apart.

(30:14):
And here is Scotty now being a superstar in the business,
being able to go out and you've heard all of
him his story about how golf is not that important
to him. The most important things to him is his
family and his relationship with the man upstairs. And he
continues to go out and just play golf care free,

(30:37):
and he continues to win. He won the British Open
or the Open. He won it an impressive fashion four
stroke lead. He earns three point one million dollars and
he continues to roll, no drama, just straight wins. And
he won the third leg of the Grand Slam. And
here's Scotty talking about golf and his son.

Speaker 7 (31:02):
A couple of interviews to do here. This guy's sports first,
that is on a loose Harry Toms, No, it's.

Speaker 2 (31:13):
Not easy if those slepts.

Speaker 1 (31:16):
First time learner right there, that's his son trying to
walk up the stairs.

Speaker 2 (31:30):
His son was, I mean walk up the green and
he couldn't get up.

Speaker 3 (31:33):
And you got to always think about some of these
announcers and how they try to describe certain things in
the way that it happens.

Speaker 2 (31:40):
It was so impressive.

Speaker 1 (31:41):
But I want you to hear Jordan speak talking about
Scottie not wanting to be a superstar and just really
just wants to go about his day and not have
to deal with all the interviews and the turmoil and
all the other fighting and everything else. He just wants
to go and play golf and doesn't care about the
start of them.

Speaker 9 (32:02):
He doesn't care to be a superstar. He's not transcending
the game like Tiger did. He's not bringing it to
non golf audience necessarily. He doesn't want to go do
you know the stuff that you know a lot of
us go do corporately anything like that. He's he just
wants to get away from the game and separate the
two because I know that he you know, at one

(32:24):
time felt it was too much. He's taking it with
him and you know, whenever he made that switch, I
don't know what when it was, but you know, to
have hobbies, you know, he's he's he's always with his family,
They're always doing stuff. So I think it's more so
the difference in personality from any other superstar that you've
seen in the modern era and maybe any sport.

Speaker 2 (32:45):
I don't think anybody's like him. Oh that's great.

Speaker 1 (32:49):
I think that people over uh is that your bait
what an athlete should be doing rather than what they
need to do. Like you and I, if we were
to find a way to make five million dollars a year,
we would still be spending more time with our kids

(33:11):
than we would be working.

Speaker 2 (33:13):
Yep.

Speaker 1 (33:14):
And because that's that's a time where you're not you
can't get it back. And I want everybody to kind
of get.

Speaker 2 (33:22):
Up off his back a little bit about it.

Speaker 1 (33:24):
You know, if he wants to spend more time with
his family and focus more on God.

Speaker 2 (33:28):
Then allow him to have that.

Speaker 1 (33:32):
Don't don't push it and pressure him into being like
every other athlete. Oh we're gonna hang out and go
to the Spies and we're gonna we're gonna do this
event and that event.

Speaker 2 (33:43):
Like, back off him, let the do live.

Speaker 1 (33:46):
Well, there is a lot, you know, we talk about
this a lot more about being put in a good
position to be able to have success.

Speaker 3 (33:56):
And with the success comes a lot. You have to
be able to handle a lot. People are going to
recognize a guy that just won a major event. When
you were the w w E champion, Well, there was
a lot of reasons why you were recognizable. But you
couldn't run from that. You couldn't. I mean even if

(34:19):
you tried to hide, where are you gonna at? You
know what I'm saying. You got your face on the truck. Yeah,
that's true, And I'm different.

Speaker 2 (34:29):
He I run to it. He's trying to run away
from it.

Speaker 1 (34:33):
And you know, you have to do the upfront events
like when when when we do our events at our Heart,
they say, Mark Hodge, we need y'all to show up.

Speaker 2 (34:42):
Come on, man, can y'all please come and then we go.

Speaker 1 (34:45):
Yeah, we'll be there, we'll shake every hand, We're gonna
talk to every sponsor and endorser.

Speaker 2 (34:51):
Yeah, but we're gonna do the most.

Speaker 1 (34:53):
He don't want to do it, So I mean, at
least come to a happy medium. Say, hey, we're gonna
have Scotty here for like the first fifteen minutes of
the event. So I suggest you try to go shake
his hand quick because he's.

Speaker 2 (35:11):
Not gonna be here long. Yeah, he'll be in the
win and that's all you gotta do.

Speaker 1 (35:16):
Just he's he seems like a reasonable guy, you know,
and put him back on the private jet and send
him back home. Like definitely has been on that jet.
He is definitely on that Hey man, he not flying
He not flying Southwest. No, he's I love it. I
love it just going like right now, don't Hey, if
Southwest y'all want to sponsor me in harge, we will

(35:39):
be gladly take those lights. We definitely thank you. But
Scotty he going to the clear port. Hello, I want
to make sure that we give these pair of tickets away.
You get a chance to win a pair of tickets
to go see Koheb and Cambria. September the ninth at
the Moody Center. All you have to do is download

(36:00):
that always free iHeartRadio at tap that red microphone and
leave the key word of the day, and today's word
is sniper. Sniper is the word of the day.

Speaker 3 (36:10):
To get a chance to win a pair of tickets
to go see Coheve and Cambria September the ninth at
the Moodie Center.

Speaker 2 (36:16):
Do you realize how close that is? Right now? We
are close to September. We're about to be in August.
Football season is right?

Speaker 1 (36:24):
The right or right to ride a ride around the
ConA and it is about that time.

Speaker 2 (36:30):
I'm excited about it.

Speaker 1 (36:31):
Man. You see when you said football right around the corner,
look at both of our hands.

Speaker 2 (36:36):
We both yeah. So hey that's man, no doubt, no doubt.

Speaker 3 (36:43):
So Mark, let me ask you this because we got
we're up against it. But I wanted to ask you,
how did your daughter do this weekend? In wrestling?

Speaker 2 (36:54):
Harje Joanna did really well.

Speaker 1 (36:57):
She went up to the national Championships representing teams.

Speaker 2 (37:01):
She lost her first.

Speaker 1 (37:02):
Match against the number one wrestler in the country and
the number two wrestler junior wrestler in the world.

Speaker 2 (37:13):
The girl is called the Juggernaut. That tells you who
she is.

Speaker 1 (37:19):
She went twenty five matches this year not getting scored on,
and Joanna scored on her in the first fifteen seconds.

Speaker 2 (37:28):
Nice.

Speaker 1 (37:30):
I took a lot of joy in the fact that
after that loss she won three in a row.

Speaker 2 (37:36):
So let me ask you this.

Speaker 1 (37:37):
That video that you posted on I think it was
was it on Facebook?

Speaker 3 (37:43):
It was on one of them. That was not your daughter? No,
that was the Juggernaut. So why does people talk about ma'am?
I'm so proud of her.

Speaker 1 (37:54):
I don't know what's wrong with people. Just read the captions, guys, please.
I love the fact that I posted that as motivation
for Joanna. I said, I post I will post you
next year, but I'm posting the champion.

Speaker 2 (38:11):
Yep, this girl is.

Speaker 1 (38:13):
She went to the Junior Olympics last year and came
in second in the war. They said, Mark, he must
be so proud. Oh my, that's not his that's not judge,
ob But she lost to the girl and got eliminated
by the girl that came in third, So she was
in good company and she did really well. There's not

(38:33):
many freshmen that get to go to the Nationals.

Speaker 3 (38:37):
I love it. I love it man. Congratulations to Jojo.
I know she's gonna keep grinding. Our number one is
in the books. Our number two is just around the
corner right here on a Long Horns Monday edition of
the Morning Kickoff on Sports Radio and thirteen hundreds at
Welcome back to our number two of the Morning Kickoff
right here on Sports Radio A and thirteen hundred The

(39:00):
Zone and nour number one. We heard from coach Sark
at the Texas High School Coaches Association and we also
heard Texas get the top recruit in the country. We
also talked about the All SEC team and what Texas
was able to do. Hards Knocks Life featured the college
football playoffs and coach drick Witz is one of those guys.
And Scottie Scheffler continues to roll. Right now, We're going

(39:24):
to talk a little bit about NFL training camps as
the Dallas Cowboys and other teams have decided to start camp.

Speaker 2 (39:31):
That means football season is here.

Speaker 3 (39:33):
Mark and I can't be more excited to see what
the Cowboys are going to be able to do. In
the next segment, we'll talk about the Cowboys and they
got great news but when you get ready for football camp,
what are some of the things that you're starting to
think about as we get closer and closer to the season.

Speaker 1 (39:50):
Hards, The biggest thing that I think about is the
cohesiveness of the two units, the offensive cohesion the defensive cohesion.
Is everybody healthy is the second thing? Make sure I
mean I probably should have flip flopped those two, like
to make sure everybody's healthy, everybody comes into camp ready

(40:10):
to go. And then the cohesion of the two units
of communication between the coaches and the players is the
third thing. And then to make sure that everybody understands
the mission statement of the team. You know, coach coach Harge,
Coach Sark has done a really good job. We talk

(40:32):
about it all the time. The players have bought in.
And when you have a team that's bought in, knowing
to go to bed, not to be out on Sixth
Street after eleven o'clock, knowing like there's nothing good that
going to happen after eleven o'clock.

Speaker 2 (40:53):
So like, all of those things are.

Speaker 1 (40:57):
Kind of like the list of things that I feel
like our immediate necessaries.

Speaker 3 (41:03):
Yeah, well, in the NFL, there's been a lot of
conversation about camp and what's going on. And so when
you start to look at some of these teams and
the understanding of what needs to happen, it's an interesting
part of it. You can look across the NFL and
you look at we talked a little bit about San
Francisco and what their expectations were. They've got some changes

(41:26):
and a lot of movement. You can look at the
Cardinals and look at the season that they're expected to
have with Kyler Murray and Harrison at wide receiver. You
look at the Rams they have I predict them to
win the NFC West, but they've gone through some changes.

(41:47):
You got a big time wide receiver that have came
in and your boy Davanta Adams coming in to fit in,
Buka Nakula being healthy. It's going to be an interesting
storylines for a bunch of these NFL teams. And then
you look at Pittsburgh, Mark, you know, that's the storyline
that I keep looking at. What is the Pittsburgh Steelers

(42:10):
going to be? And is this it for Mike Tomlin?

Speaker 1 (42:13):
You know what always I'm so University of Texas centric
that you know, I always go with when I started
talking football, I think Texas first, but from the college
standpoint and the pro standpoint is pretty much the same. Like,
you know, you gotta have everybody healthy, you got to
have everybody bought in, coach wise and cohesion, knowing your coordinators,

(42:38):
knowing what you what your job is and uh, and
then being able to go in and do the right
things as a team so you don't miss games.

Speaker 2 (42:48):
Unnecessary misses, yep, turping.

Speaker 1 (42:52):
Unnecessary misses, no fines, no suspensions, you know those type
of things. So like it's you're you're right, hey, and
you talked about the Jets. I mean you talked about
the Raiders. My my, My wont is to see the
Jets do well. One I seen them elevate the coaching

(43:14):
and bring somebody in that's like, look, we're not gonna
be sorry.

Speaker 2 (43:19):
If if you're not.

Speaker 1 (43:20):
Gonna buy in, you came here to get paid, you
might want to go somewhere else, because I'll take a
guy that I don't have to pay as much, that
is willing to do everything I tell him. Then to
have an all star like that that's proven. And Rogers ay,
are you in or you out?

Speaker 2 (43:39):
All right? Bye bye?

Speaker 1 (43:40):
He walked to the general manager's office mid conversation, Yeah,
you're not bought in, bro, We're gonna have to say goodbye.
So like, that's that's why I'm curious to see what's
gonna happen with the Jets. Well it's funny that you
bring up the the Jets, but well, yeah, you brought

(44:02):
up the Jets and what their situation is going to be.
You start to look at each of these teams in
the AFC East and you say, is it still Buffalo
and everybody else falling in place?

Speaker 2 (44:15):
For a long time, it was run by the.

Speaker 3 (44:20):
Patriots during Tom Brady and Bill Belichick's time, And then
all of a sudden you start to see the Buffalo Bills,
who a lot of people believe are a play or
two away, and they still have to find a way
to get that done. And you still want to see
exactly who they are. Can they continue to sustain that

(44:41):
type of dominance in that league? But then you also
have Miami. What is next for Mike McDaniel. Is he
a guy that's on the hot seat? Is he a
guy that has put himself in a position now to
where it's like, okay.

Speaker 1 (44:57):
Warm as cool as he got that cool factor thing
with the players and all of that, He's gonna have
to win.

Speaker 2 (45:08):
Yeah, winning is the number one deodorant.

Speaker 1 (45:11):
And man, they out there in the streets with no
deodorant right now. Yeah, they are musty. They are in
that humidity. They are musty. So you start looking at
it too, Uh, you start looking at Tyreek Hill. Is
Tyreek Hill one of those guys that's on the not
a hot seat, but on trade, just like Jayalen Ramsey.

(45:31):
You start looking at all these players that are demanding
all this money and attention.

Speaker 3 (45:37):
But lately he hadn't been able to stay healthy. He's
got a bunch of off the field stuff going on.
He's been putting himself in a bad, bad light. So
now what's next with that squad? We just talked about
the cohesion.

Speaker 1 (45:50):
They're not missing days because of stuff off the field,
and Tyreek Hill is a post child for that, Like
they have not got everything together. They sound like we
want to do right, but they end up like I
can't get right. Yeah. Yeah, And it continues to happen.
I mean, at this point, we are looking at some

(46:14):
of these names and positions and teams, and then you
have the Washington Commanders in the NFC East.

Speaker 3 (46:20):
You look at that team, they continue to get better.
They continue to make plays, I mean not plays, but
make player moves that we are scratching our head because
of the Cowboys not making those moves. But yet they
still find a way. Dan Quinn is elevating his game.
You got Jayden Daniels who has become a must watch
in the NFL. But you also have to understand that

(46:44):
nobody in the NFC East has won back to back
like the Pittsburgh the Philadelphia Eagles super Bowl champion, but
nobody has won the league back to back in twenty years.

Speaker 1 (46:56):
I want you to know some respect on the Cowboys
very quick, because we will in the next segment.

Speaker 2 (47:02):
We will in the next segment give.

Speaker 1 (47:04):
You building up these Washington Commanders and these Philadelphia Eagles.
And I'm feeling some kind of way. It's like it's
like somebody hearing somebody talk about their ex in a
positive light. I don't want to hear that.

Speaker 2 (47:19):
X got better because they left. You know what upgrade upgrade? Well,
I mean you know as well as I do.

Speaker 1 (47:29):
When you watch the Cowboys, and again we'll talk about it,
but when you watch the Cowboys, you start to understand
that they're moving in a different type of way. Their
in motion, the emotion is different right now. And we
talk to duce Vaughan on Friday.

Speaker 3 (47:44):
Make sure you get over to the podcast page and
check out that interview with duce Vaughan Dallas Cowboy duce
Van who who is trying to stay on the squad?
I mean another relationship that he has with Schottenheimer. It
seems to be a good one, but uh, there some
business decisions that need to be made here in just
a little bit. And I hope that he gets a

(48:05):
chance to stay. And are they going to keep for
running backs? That's why him being able to cross train
has been important, being able to catch the ball and
do some things.

Speaker 2 (48:15):
But again back to that NFC East.

Speaker 3 (48:18):
You looked at Philadelphia, Dude, they look like they're slowing
down anytime soon. Do you do you believe that Washington
is going to regress? I don't either one of those teams.
I don't see them going backwards.

Speaker 1 (48:30):
No, I don't. I don't see either one of those.
And I actually do see the Giants getting better in
the East. So they've made decisions to make their franchise
a younger, more viable team, and I think they've done that.
We'll see here in a little while. Car Just we're

(48:52):
on the doorsteps right now. The season is starting. Training
camps should be starting with next week, right, No, it's today,
right now. Today is I forgot, man, Like this weekend,
I've been in and out of consciousness, you know, with
all this stuff going on. But today is the day
hard Right now, people are putting their shoes on, people

(49:16):
are getting ready for practice. That's right, and it's that time.
It's that time, So I'm excited about it. I look
forward to it.

Speaker 3 (49:24):
In the next segment, we're going to talk about the
Dallas Cowboys and what we're thinking about in this camp.
We also look down at the h town Houston Texans.
They're getting ready to start their camp as well. And
of course the NFL that means football season is upon us.
I think we have the The Hall of Fame game

(49:45):
is this week as well, so we are back in
the football mode.

Speaker 2 (49:49):
Can't wait.

Speaker 1 (49:50):
Texas Football will be starting training camp this weekend as well,
So folks, I mean, well, two weeks, two weeks, we're
close to it. We're two weeks. We got so much
on Markie, right, it's all over the place. So our
mind is everywhere, but you know where it is. It's
going to be up north in Dallas, actually where I
am right now, and we will talk about your Dallas Cowboys,

(50:12):
the expectations, and they got some great news yesterday and
I'm excited about it too. All that and more right
here on a Longhorns Monday edition of the Morning Kickoff
right here on Sports Radio A thirteen hundred. Welcome back
to the Morning Kickoff right here on Sports Radio AM
thirteen hundred. This is Mike Carbarhar's World Strongest Man w

(50:34):
W Hall of Famer the Mark Henry and of course
our guy Mark is holding in it down. We talked
NFL training camp and then just took a quick tour
of the NFL. But let's go out to Oxnard, California,
as the Dallas Cowboys have made their way to California
and yesterday, Mark, over the weekend, there were some news

(50:55):
that came out that the Marvian Overshawn has.

Speaker 2 (50:58):
Been cleared for training camp.

Speaker 3 (51:01):
Agent zero is back in the house, and I know
that Cowboy fans and Demarming for that matter, are very,
very excited to have that young man back in camp.

Speaker 1 (51:13):
Man, we have got to get him on. I don't
know if you've talked to him, Marge, but the dude's
a lightning ride of joy and excitement. How can't I
would love to have played with somebody like him that
just has this energy, this unrelenting wont to do good
and like get everybody together like he's like that the

(51:37):
conduit between the coaches and the players.

Speaker 2 (51:40):
Like by hand, boys, come on, let's go like he
the fire up guy.

Speaker 1 (51:45):
And you know the Cowboys you saw last season that
they sorely missed, that.

Speaker 2 (51:53):
Sorely missed it. Now they just get.

Speaker 1 (51:56):
A couple more guys that's on the injury list back
in the next two weeks so they can have some
real quality training camp.

Speaker 2 (52:05):
It should be amazing.

Speaker 3 (52:09):
One of the things that I look at with Demarvin
is his ability to go sideline to the sideline and
what he brings at that linebacker position is something that
the Cowboys have missed for such a long time. I mean,
he almost played the entire season, but he ended up

(52:30):
getting hurt in Week fourteen, tearing everything. But the fact
of the matter is that he is able to start
training cap on the active but on the active but
physically unable to perform lists, but before the season he
will continue to rehab. But he can work out, he
can move around, he can get out there, and that
means that he's probably closer to playing than people thought

(52:53):
he would be after he tore his ACL, PCL and
his MCL. So for him to be able to rehab
the way that he was, that was something that was
huge to happen.

Speaker 1 (53:03):
You was right to say he tore everything, but the
thing that was the most important thing that he did
not tear was interior cruisers. Like, if you tear your ACL,
it's a year. You tell your interior cruisers that's going
to be a year and a half. And he was
really blessed that that was still intact from a medical standpoint.

Speaker 2 (53:26):
Guys, I did it.

Speaker 1 (53:28):
I tore everything up at my knee and it took
me a calendar year before I felt okay, I can
get back under some weights, that I can pick somebody
up over my head and not feel like I'm putting
their life in jeopardy. And man, I said that very casually,

(53:50):
like you pick up another human over your head.

Speaker 2 (53:52):
Anyway, it was, it was it was a year before
I was on.

Speaker 1 (53:59):
And I know that he's gonna have doubt, Like I mean,
anny athlete, would you know, like the last time you
put one hundred on that knee it went, So you
have this fear.

Speaker 2 (54:14):
He's got to get over that fear, no doubt.

Speaker 3 (54:18):
There are some guys that are going to be in
camp that are on the I wouldn't say hot seat
because it's not fair to say that, but they're on
the bubble and they don't want it to burst. And
one of those players we talked a little bit about
Deuce Bond, but another one of those players is dmon Clark,
the moon Clark, who played some linebacker, some special teams.

(54:40):
He's played two different positions with two different coordinators. He's
done a really good job and holding things down. But
this offseason the Cowboys drafted some players. They also signed
some players and Kenneth Murray, they drafted Shamar James, They
got Jake Sanborn that is in that position. But then

(55:01):
you also got Mars Lafoule, who is important for them.
And it's going to be an interesting time for the
Monk Clark, who he just never seemed to get over
the hump at his position at linebacker.

Speaker 1 (55:16):
Yeah, you you want one guy to step up and
emerge as the guy. But hard look at it as
a glass half full over a glass half empty.

Speaker 2 (55:28):
They have options.

Speaker 1 (55:29):
Would I would rather have three or four guys and
have to decide than to not have one at all.
And you know, sometimes maybe they gotta they gotta try
him in waves. Let let these guys put two of
them out there at the same time, take them off
put and you have fresh guys. Whatever it is that

(55:50):
the Cowboys decide to do. Uh, I'm I told you
this a long time ago. I feel hopeful because of
what Coach Schottenheimer is done.

Speaker 2 (56:04):
And at the end of the day, they they have a.

Speaker 1 (56:10):
System now in place that defensively is about attacking the
Cowboys last season and they waited on teams and you know,
the Washington Commanders took everything, they took everything from us,
and now the Cowboys are just now being able to

(56:31):
rebuild all of that depth that left and the run stoppers,
and the Cowboys seem to have got them back. And
I'd rather that depth be at that linebacker corps and
outside linebacker corps.

Speaker 2 (56:44):
Than to not have it right.

Speaker 3 (56:47):
That's a great point, and what the Cowboys are going
to be able to do at linebacker along with the
wide receiver position. They've all provided some depth and brought
in some bodies and one of the guys that is
on the b is Paris Campbell. I know we haven't
talked a lot about him, the wide receiver from of
Ohio State, but you think about the Cowboys and Jalen Brooks,

(57:10):
Ryan Florou, George Picking that I don't still don't understand
why they're so in love with Jonathan Mingo. They believe
that he's going to be that guy, but you also
have to look at what Cavante Turpin. You had mentioned
it a little while ago about Turpin and how he's
put himself in a in a spot to make the

(57:31):
Cowboys uncomfortable because of this off seat, off off the
field issue that he's had.

Speaker 1 (57:38):
Marge, I'm sorry to interrupt you, man, like I'm gonna
tell you why they like Mingo because he's an athletic
freak of nature. You don't find guys that sixty three
and two hundred and ten pounds that can run for three.

Speaker 2 (57:54):
He was a high draft pick.

Speaker 1 (57:57):
I mean, the guy's got everything that you want, but
can he remember the plays?

Speaker 2 (58:03):
You know, that's if they can.

Speaker 1 (58:05):
If they can work I hate to say it, man,
but the knock on him is he's not the sharpest
knife in the drawer. Right if they can dumb it
down for him a little bit, boy, that sounded horrible.
I mean, hey, man, speak your truth. I'm just seeing
what I'm reading hard. I studied this, and I feel

(58:27):
bad for the dude because I'm dyslexic.

Speaker 2 (58:30):
I have issues learning, but I had to.

Speaker 1 (58:34):
Turn my learning disability into Okay, I'm just gonna study
it and go over it a thousand times until it's
just natural for me. He's somebody's gonna have to get
in his ear and say, hey, man, I know you
like the party, I know you like fishing, I know
you like movies. I know you like video games, but hey,
you need this playbook. Brother needs you to know it.

(58:55):
They got a video game. Yeah, Like, somebody's gonna have
to help him out.

Speaker 3 (59:02):
Well, I mean, the opportunities are going to be there,
but I don't know how far along he's going to
get that opportunity. Because if you start to look at
the Cowboys and the way that they have been constructed
this year, it is going to be an interesting study
for the Dallas Cowboys. Since you were talking about studying
the film. We're gonna end up seeing something different about

(59:25):
this squad here in the near future because the Cowboys
are going to run the football and they're gonna run it,
and they're going to continue to run it. I know
that Dak coming back is going to be exciting, and
we're gonna think that they're gonna throw it because they
picked up George Pickens and Cede Lamb is a thousand
yard guy.

Speaker 2 (59:44):
But we got three tylers. We got to come up
with a nickname.

Speaker 3 (59:47):
We got three tylers on the offensive line, and one
of them is a road greater, and that's exactly what
he wants to do is run the football. And that
saved you a lot when you're thinking about your offensive line.

Speaker 1 (01:00:01):
Well, you got two of them that are road graders.
They just drafted Booker too, and Booker is That's what
I'm saying, that's the one I'm talking about.

Speaker 3 (01:00:08):
Tyler Booker is the one that wants to run, wants
to run the football because it makes it makes his.

Speaker 2 (01:00:15):
Job a lot easier.

Speaker 1 (01:00:16):
Well, I meant Tyler Smith is equally a good run blocker.
It's just that you know, Booker can do both. He's
just as good a past blocker as he is a
run blocker. And if we can get Guyton, the third
Tyler and the group, you know, we might have to
call them like the new Kids on the Block or.

Speaker 2 (01:00:38):
Something like the Triple T's. That's what we're gonna go with.

Speaker 1 (01:00:42):
They gotta have an old school soul band named though,
like something like, we got to get those guys together.

Speaker 2 (01:00:50):
But whatever, it is hard.

Speaker 1 (01:00:53):
If you have that much run blocking prowess, it seems
like you would run the ball more than just even
though you got all this.

Speaker 2 (01:01:01):
Money tied up in the past game. Yeah, we're gonna
figure it out.

Speaker 3 (01:01:04):
But coming up next, we got the WWE Hall of
Famer bringing you his World's Strongest take right here on
the Morning Kickoff on the Walnghorns Monday edition of the
Morning Kickoff on Sports Radio, and thirteen hundred was.

Speaker 1 (01:01:18):
All you heard that beat dropping. It can only mean
one thing. WWE Hall of Famer and the World's Strongest
Man Eat Mark Henrick, brings you his world strongest take.

Speaker 2 (01:01:29):
Take it away, big fellow Art, what's up man? You
know what time it is? Or Thomas, It's time.

Speaker 1 (01:01:36):
For the World's Strongest Take by the world's Strongest man mas.
Back then, they didn't know men. Now I'm hot, they
all on me.

Speaker 2 (01:01:48):
Guys. It was bleak.

Speaker 1 (01:01:52):
It was a dark time at the University of Texas.
Early in the recruiting phase, everybody was crying. Everybody was
woe as us. What has coach Stark done? We don't
have the guys. What were we twenty seventh? We had

(01:02:13):
the twenty seventh recruiting class at one time, and we
all knew, Okay, it's not gonna stay like this.

Speaker 2 (01:02:21):
And then it slowly started to creep into the teens, and.

Speaker 1 (01:02:26):
Then for one for whatever reason, it went from the
teens into the single digits.

Speaker 2 (01:02:33):
And before.

Speaker 1 (01:02:36):
The Longhorns brought in Derrick Cooper yesterday, which was an
unbelievable acquisition at running back, the running back from Derrick
Cooper from Hollywood, Florida, committed to the University of Texas,
Texas was.

Speaker 2 (01:02:53):
Already ranked number five.

Speaker 1 (01:02:56):
That's pretty doing good when the tubes shed is all
already full, when you already got two and three deep
at a lot of positions and you bring in all
these young guys.

Speaker 2 (01:03:08):
But those young guys are.

Speaker 1 (01:03:10):
Going to be needed because after this season, Texas is
losing some significant players so recruiting is an unbelievable thing.

Speaker 2 (01:03:19):
And you start, you know, even though you have.

Speaker 1 (01:03:23):
An arch man in who's gonna be his first starting season,
you bring in another five star quarterback who is like
arch was, he's gonna be able to come in and
know you're not gonna play we want you. It's gonna
take you a year to learn this playbook and to

(01:03:46):
learn how we do things. And Bell is committed to
doing that. And the guy that a lot of people
don't even realize how valuable he's gonna be is Tyler
at Uh.

Speaker 2 (01:04:02):
I want you to go and look at his film.

Speaker 1 (01:04:06):
Uh, Tyler Reno four to three to six, y'all at linebacker, Like,
give him the ball and let him run it, like
you know, it ain't many guys that can run a
four to three. You see him come out of his steps,
no false steps. Usually you see people chopping, They feed chop,

(01:04:27):
chop chop. This guy goes ageless, gevo sideline to sideline
like a laser beam.

Speaker 2 (01:04:33):
He is taking.

Speaker 1 (01:04:34):
The ball is still in the air when the people
that he tackle hit the ground.

Speaker 2 (01:04:39):
He is amazing.

Speaker 1 (01:04:40):
He's one of those guys that's lebron Like when you
say physically. Remember hard when we saw Colin Simmons the
first time and we said, it ain't no way to dude,
its seventeen. It's no way. He's gotta be twenty eight.
And that's Tyler Atkinson. That's what Texas is getting. They

(01:05:01):
brought in uh, Richard Wesley who as a as an
edge rusher, is a guy that can do everything.

Speaker 2 (01:05:11):
He plays both sides and is.

Speaker 1 (01:05:13):
A hitter and and we we we talked about the
bend and the hips and the and that shoulder lean
that a lie Dereck Johnson. I can't wait for Derick
Johnson to get his hands on this guy.

Speaker 2 (01:05:28):
He reminds me so much of Derek.

Speaker 1 (01:05:31):
And Cleveland is right behind him. But Texas was able
to get some offensive lineman. I think that uh, the
the offensive line and defensive line recruits, they fixed that Harde.
My my take today is now all your people that
had doubts about what Texas was doing recruiting wise, you.

Speaker 2 (01:05:56):
Can you can come off the roof. You don't have to.

Speaker 1 (01:06:00):
Yeah, Texas did a hell of a job in.

Speaker 2 (01:06:03):
The recruiting cycle this year. What say you come and
go wrong with anything?

Speaker 1 (01:06:10):
Can't go wrong with anything that you just mentioned Mark,
when you start to understand and again, you know how
I feel about this, and we talked about it at
the beginning of the show. I am one of those
guys that I sit back until the day that the
ink is dry and they sign. Because we're talking about
eighteen year old kids, we're talking about families, we're talking

(01:06:33):
about what do they call them, handlers that may get
a call from somebody else and all of a sudden,
the money look a little deeper in a spot than
what they did somewhere else. But on the surface, when
you look at what Texas has been able to pull
off and the rankings of each one of the players

(01:06:56):
that they have got the commitments from, it lets you
know right away that quality over quantity is what I've
been saying and I'm gonna continue to say that because everybody's.

Speaker 3 (01:07:09):
Like, let's grab this guy, let's grab this guy. How
are we losing that guy to this team? Why is
this now? All of a sudden, everybody's like, oh, look
at Texas. They've got to hold the money. Ain't they
got ald of money? And it's like, well, a minute
ago you was telling us how bad they were, and
now they're sitting in the class of twenty twenty six NFL,
NFL excuse me, NCAA Football Composite Team rankings for recruiting

(01:07:34):
by Horns or by twenty four seven Sports, Texas is
at number five, and that's what that commitment for.

Speaker 1 (01:07:42):
They got the commitment from Dereck Cooper. And I'm gonna
tell you another thing about Dereck Cooper. Watching his film
and reading what the Miami sports.

Speaker 2 (01:07:53):
Writers said about him.

Speaker 1 (01:07:55):
They said the closest guy that they remind that he
reminds him of Adrian Peterson. We missed out on Adrian Peterson. Guys,
he wanted to come to Texas, but he didn't want
to split reps and we missed out. But this could
be Adrian Peterson two point zero. The guys, guys, he's seventeen.

(01:08:19):
He's not eighteen. He's already two oh five. He's six',
one he's a big he's a one cut. Guy and don't,
yeah ran a ten to seven flat one hundred.

Speaker 2 (01:08:31):
Meters we'll see what.

Speaker 3 (01:08:33):
Happens we gonna get to the finish line because like anything,
ELSE i believe it WHEN i see, it AND i
got to see it on the forty acers in that
Burnt orange until then we go. Away coming, up we'll
close out the show and send you To Dan. Patrick

man you think you can still? DUNK i, said, YEAH
i could jump up, there BUT i won't be able
to come.

Speaker 2 (01:11:05):
Down y'all gonna need a.

Speaker 1 (01:11:07):
Ladder and some like the fire rescue.

Speaker 2 (01:11:10):
People while they put the big net under the.

Speaker 1 (01:11:12):
Ground, man IF i came, down both knees going.

Speaker 2 (01:11:17):
Gone and everybody talk about when you get.

Speaker 1 (01:11:20):
Old the first thing that leads is the breaks because
you might still be able to get up, there but
when you try to, stop oh both.

Speaker 2 (01:11:30):
A, cls, hamstrings everything.

Speaker 1 (01:11:33):
Going, yeah because you're not used to, that that, pressure
that pounding on those ligaments and, tendons you.

Speaker 2 (01:11:39):
KNOW i, mean it's not THE wl for. That, Yeah
i'm not for.

Speaker 1 (01:11:42):
THAT i don't want to be on, crutches no more
than these, scooters none of.

Speaker 2 (01:11:48):
THAT i don't want.

Speaker 3 (01:11:49):
It, WELL i do want to bring this up BECAUSE
i thought it was outstanding and you've seen a lot
of it On Sports. Center you've seen the plays of
the week kept continued to row and we've had this
discussion because it seems to be that flag football is
going to be in The, olympics and we talked about

(01:12:10):
who we would have on all these. Teams but the
plays that were being made by these kids this weekend
in flag football Or Sports Center's top, ten there was
one kid that made a catch AND i retweeted it
AND i sent it To texas. RECRUITING i, said y'all
need to be getting on this fourteen year old kid
because he had An Odell, Beckham randy Moss, okick whoever you,

(01:12:34):
Want Odell.

Speaker 2 (01:12:35):
Beckham catch was open hand.

Speaker 1 (01:12:38):
Backwards he caught the top point of the ball and
turned it over AND i.

Speaker 2 (01:12:45):
Don't know IF i ever seen a better catch in my.

Speaker 3 (01:12:47):
Life, really my sixteen year old son told. Me he was,
like there's no way that kid is, fourteen because.

Speaker 2 (01:12:55):
He was.

Speaker 1 (01:12:58):
That's.

Speaker 2 (01:12:59):
Great they, said there's no way that kid is. Fourteen
you know.

Speaker 1 (01:13:02):
That you know that twenty, three you know you gotta
go tee and a, Beard like how you got to
go tea and a beard at fourteen years?

Speaker 2 (01:13:11):
Old oh.

Speaker 3 (01:13:12):
Man for the way that they were able to make those,
plays the way that they have excited the. Area the
team of girls that were playing is From, Austin. Texas another,
Quarterback ava and her. Dad They Ava wallace and her.
Dad they won for they were representing The texans, though

(01:13:34):
and they beat The. Cowboys they shut them, out But
ava was slinging that. Thing and she she's been, very
very popular when you start to look at flag.

Speaker 1 (01:13:44):
Football she's been a. Spokesman she's won awards and traveled
all over the. Place so flag football is something serious
AND i was so happy to see it and just
think about it. Mainstream they were ON espn and were
playing Their championships all day. Long, yeah it. Was it
was impressive watching watching the guys. Play at one point

(01:14:09):
you had quarterbacks Like Patrick mahomes tweeting out things about
watching these young kids, play as well As Lamar jackson, going,
man can you can you believe that you know what
a catch YadA YadA YadA Like when you got the
elite of the elite quarterbacks watching, this that that means

(01:14:30):
it's something that we all should start to tune.

Speaker 2 (01:14:32):
Into they see the value in, it so maybe we should.

Speaker 3 (01:14:35):
Too, yeah and for, me you start looking at what's
backing this as, well because we talked about how things
are being structured and who are the ones that are.
Helping you think about all these guys that are helping
these these players and and THE nfl is backing them
because you're wearing their uniforms or their team. Recognition you

(01:14:59):
start to get to go and play in. IT i
was In, Canton, ohio so those kids got to go
tour The hall Of fame and do different. Things and
they're gearing this up for as we, said The olympics
will be part Of Flag flag football will be part
of The, olympics and they're going to HAVE nfl players
that will get a chance to, participate.

Speaker 1 (01:15:20):
And speaking about The, olympics you, know like the, coaches
shout out To Jimmy house who is one of the
guys that coached these, kids And Marcus boswell out there
In Lake travis, area like for coaching these kids in
this flag football and seven on, seven.

Speaker 2 (01:15:38):
Like they get them.

Speaker 1 (01:15:39):
Right and you, know it's good to See austin having
representation nationally in this whole flag football.

Speaker 2 (01:15:49):
World.

Speaker 1 (01:15:50):
Yeah BEFORE i let you, Go, MARK i wanted to ask,

the W nba festivities this past weekend.

GAME i, mean they were partying In, atlanta, MAN i
should have. WENT i should have went To atlanta with
them rather than going with.

Speaker 3 (01:16:21):

Speaker 1 (01:16:45):
Good time and with all the turmoil with people, saying,
oh they're fighting and this person don't like this.

Speaker 2 (01:16:51):

Speaker 1 (01:17:03):
Stop i'm just saying that they had a good time
and and and even not only to going out and,
partying but look at all of the community activations that
they did in the, city like being able to go
and do all these kids centric things and have the
kids come before the game started and do skills competition

(01:17:24):
stuff like that's the STUFF i. Like you, Know i'm
a sucker for seeing kids get to have an experience
with a.

Speaker 2 (01:17:31):
Pro and they did a good. Job the w n
B a did a, really really good.

Speaker 1 (01:17:35):
