I'm glad that I haven't totally tanked everything. Guys, Let
me back for another day here on AM thirteen hundred
The Zone Morning Kickoff.
Speaker 3 (01:23):
I'll be here all week. Shout out to Mike.
Speaker 4 (01:25):
Hartes getting a well deserved vacation and Mark certainly a
lot to get into this morning. Because it is Tuesday,
July twenty ninth. The Texas Longhorns, as we talked about
in death yesterday, will return to the practice field starting tomorrow.
Speaker 3 (01:46):
Gotta take you a little bit of business today.
Speaker 4 (01:48):
I'm gonna hear from all the assistant coaches, Mark, you
fired up to hear from what Steve Starkeys and the
staff have to say.
Speaker 2 (01:55):
I am Eric, like, this is the time of year
where it's most important for us to get all the
information that the guys are on the yard, that they're ready,
that they're performing, and we get that information. That information
of what those coaches feel like is the most important thing, you.
Speaker 3 (02:18):
Know, It's it's super interesting.
Speaker 4 (02:19):
And you know, when I was just going through my
emails yesterday, typically Mark and Marcus, you know, we hear
from our court, the Texas footballs coordinators. Here from Jeff
Banks of course, the special team's coaching coordinator. We're here
from defense corner of Pete Krokowski, and we hear from offense
corner Kyle Flood. But we've got to follow up that
we will hear from all of the assistance following the
(02:40):
coordinator availability, which I think is pretty interesting.
Speaker 3 (02:43):
I think, you know, I don't.
Speaker 4 (02:44):
Want to read too much into it, but I think
it goes to show the confidence that Steve Sarkegian has
in his team and in his staff to make the
to make the staff available to the media, and like
you said, it's an opportunity to get really good nuggets.
Let's start with a couple of things and I'll kind
of give you my things I'm looking to hear from
and I'll pass it back to you. Mark number one,
we talked about c J. Baxter yesterday. I would love
(03:05):
to hear where is c J. Boxer's recovery.
Speaker 1 (03:08):
Right.
Speaker 4 (03:08):
We've seen the social media images, you know, him coming
back looking strong, you know, the social media, the tweets,
you know, come back season.
Speaker 3 (03:14):
We've seen all of that.
Speaker 4 (03:16):
But let's get some intel as far as how he
actually has been fearing with the rehab. I would love
to talk to Kenny Baker, Texas defensive tackle coach and
kind of get some read on. You know, these new
defensive tackle transfers, right, how are they?
Speaker 3 (03:29):
It's big shoes to fill.
Speaker 4 (03:30):
Mark, you know, defensive tackle play in Austin the last
not even just the last two years. You can go
back to the Moro Ojamo's and KeAndre Coburns. It's been
stout in Austin over the last few years. So can
these guys keep the level of play there? And then lastly,
just want to hear about the secondary mark. How are
some of those pieces coming together? But I'll pass it
back to you and see, you know kind of what
you'd want to hear from, not like the coordinators with
(03:52):
these assistants.
Speaker 2 (03:53):
Yeah, I'm looking forward to hearing what they what they
found out that they didn't already know, because sometimes you
find out like oh, I got a guy that's a defensive.
Speaker 3 (04:03):
Line guy that could drop back in zone read he
can cover, or I.
Speaker 2 (04:07):
Found a linebacker that he's very a depth at covering
tight ends when running backs coming out of the back.
Who is the person that did something that they had
no idea, Hey, this guy can do this, let's use it.
Speaker 4 (04:22):
You know, that's a real interesting kind of point to
segue because I know for me obviously coming out of
the summer, right, you know, this is the time of
mark you can attest to this haven't been a high
level athlete the summer when the coaches aren't watching right,
when it's just you and the in the in the
training staff who's been put in the work and who's
coming out of shape right now, let's hope that everyone's
(04:44):
coming in into shape right.
Speaker 3 (04:45):
Everyone has.
Speaker 4 (04:46):
As Steve Sarkisan said at SEC Media Days, mentally, the
task at hand is to finish the job. Entering last year,
Steve Sarksan talked about being obsessed with wing a national title.
Right this year is finished the job which players are
taking the bull by the horns and want to finish
the job from a perspective of getting their body right. Mark,
(05:07):
Because again I pass back to you on this.
Speaker 3 (05:09):
You know, in the.
Speaker 4 (05:10):
Summer, when no coaches are there, it's easy to slack off.
Speaker 3 (05:13):
That's the other way. That's the easy part.
Speaker 2 (05:16):
Coach Becton is there, and you know he has the
ability to keep working with the players. The strength coach
is always a guy that is able to lead the charge.
He may not lead you in football schematics or film
review or even installs and how to play, but what
(05:38):
he is going to be able to do all year
long is work on guys, nutrition, work on guys conditioning,
find out who was the week and make them strong,
and they are going to be guys that are going
to come back this year from the summer. And some
of the things that were weaknesses got fixed because because
(06:01):
they were weak, now they're strong. They were two hundred
pounds and they really didn't need to be too ten
or two fifteen to do their job.
Speaker 3 (06:10):
My son is that way at Oklahoma. I helped him and.
Speaker 2 (06:16):
Understood and talked to him a lot about his understanding
of why they wanted him to be three hundred pounds.
And you know, Jacob is a wrestler first and now
he's a football player first. But when he wrestled, he
had to be under too eighty five, so he was
always monitoring his weight. Well, now you don't have to
do that. So there's guys like him where they're too
(06:40):
eighty and they really need to be three hundred pounds.
How do you put on that twenty pounds? But it
be functional weight, it's not you know, you know, jiggerly.
So like that's what coach Beckter's job is. I'm not
worried about Texas in that department. And Mark, I want
to throw one more nugget out there.
Speaker 4 (06:58):
With you in terms of kind of the condition, and
we've we talked about it a little bit yesterday, right,
you know, this team being equipped to play fourteen, fifteen, sixteen,
possibly even seventeen games in a season. Throw another nugget
out there before we kind of get back at some
of the positions and running through what you may want
to hear through, is Mark Texas has traveled this year
actually increases a little bit. I know this may sound like,
(07:20):
you know, just some you know, dumb media thing, right,
but I do think these things add up, and I
think you're the perfect person to ask, is someone who
made a living on the road, driving, flying, et cetera. Right,
think about it, Texas. Yes, you get the built in
kind of pseudo home game right when you go to
the Cotton Bowl, but you got to go to Ohio
state to Florida. Texas is travel And I actually got
(07:42):
to email about this. Forgive me, I can't remember the
publication that sent it to me. Their travel increased by
about thirty five hundred miles this year, Mark, and those
are flying miles right. So again, just to really be
in the weeds as far as why it's crucial to
have your physical fitness, your mental fitness.
Speaker 3 (07:57):
Again, I think you can speak this probably better than most.
Speaker 4 (08:00):
The toll it takes on you when you're gonna go
a month away from dk R three out of those games,
three though out of those four games being out of
the state of Texas, it's gonna take a toll on you.
Speaker 3 (08:10):
So you've got to come into the season the right way.
Speaker 2 (08:13):
If you're an individual athlete, it's gonna pay a dividend,
it's gonna pay a cost. There's gonna be a cost
to it as an individual. But this is a team sport.
This is a well aweed machine. Coach Sark is gonna
go out there and say, guys, the field is still
one hundred yards. The gold posts are the same dimensions,
(08:35):
the same height. The sideline is the same length on
our side as.
Speaker 3 (08:39):
It is on there.
Speaker 2 (08:41):
We're gonna lead a hotel, We're gonna go get a snack,
we're gonna do a walk through, we're gonna go to
the locker room and get warmed up, taped up, and
we're gonna go out there and kick that rear in
just like we would do at our home.
Speaker 3 (08:54):
So that's that's easy.
Speaker 2 (08:57):
Like the travel is more about logistics. It's about, Hey,
at five o'clock in the morning, we're gonna get on
the plane. I don't want to see people on their phones.
I want you to go straight back to sleep. Like
you gotta, you gotta, you gotta coach them. You gotta,
you gotta give them the necessary uh fail safes to
(09:21):
get what accomplished that you want to get accomplished. It's
not going to be more difficult. It's just gonna need
more understanding and more hands on teaching when you travel.
Speaker 3 (09:33):
Mark, that's a super underrated point.
Speaker 4 (09:34):
I laughed when you said, you know, getting the guys
on the plane and saying, hey, stay off your phones,
go back to sleep. Cause and you're you just mentioned it.
You're the father of a young college athlete. What's one
thing you can't get these guys to do? Mark, You
go to stay off, go to sleep and get off
their phones. Like I mean, I if I was a coach,
(09:55):
I'd put an E M P on the plane. I'd
be like, okay, no, Wi FI know nothing. I want
you to go to sleep like that.
Speaker 5 (10:04):
That's a lifetime problem. That's not even a college problem
or high school problem. From the age three up.
Speaker 2 (10:10):
Man, if I tell my daughter give me a phone.
You would think that the world is ending. That is
the ultimate dad. Don't do it. I'll do whatever you say.
I get whatever I want if I take the phone.
So a lot of parents out there laughing right now
on the way to work and driving to and fro.
(10:32):
We appreciate all of y'all listening to the Morning Kickoff.
We talk a lot about our kids and the people
that don't have them. I wish and hope that you
do because it's a lightening, enlightening experience. We're gonna go
(10:53):
to a break here in a second, but come back,
guys and listen to the Morning kick Off on thirteen
hundred zone. This is Mark hearing the world strongest man,
and I'm with Eric Henry. I call him ken Folk
were not related, but we can't Folk. Well, well he's
(11:14):
here for Mike Hard. We'll see y'all right after this break.
All right, we having a problem here in e right now.
You guys got me out there, we go.
Speaker 4 (11:25):
We got the ladies and gentlemen tech technical difficult. Sorry
about that, Marcus. Welcome back to the Morning Kickoff AM
thirteen hundred zone. I couldn't hear anything. I couldn't hear
the sound. They couldn't hear me. But we're back, and
you know, it's kind of a tough segue, Fellas, but
into a serious topic, but also one that could have
ended could have turned out much differently, so we can
(11:46):
have some fun with it, guys. But Coach Prime Dion Sanders,
of course, the head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes. There
was a lot of speculation Mark, you know, around the
off season or over the offseason.
Speaker 3 (11:58):
Around his health, right you know, and you know, having
done this.
Speaker 4 (12:02):
For ten years working in sports journalism, my thought process was,
I didn't, you know, believe a lot of the social
media rumors this, that and the other. However, I did
think that there had to be a level of seriousness
to it, because if it wasn't, Mark, you just come
out and say it right like, look, here's what the
situation is.
Speaker 3 (12:21):
We can shut down all of the rumors right now.
Speaker 4 (12:23):
But with someone's personal health, Coach Prime chose to address
it on his own time, and he revealed yesterday that
he did deal with bladder cancer.
Speaker 3 (12:35):
We have some of the sound of Coach Prime for
miss presser yesterday, but.
Speaker 6 (12:38):
Please get yourself checked out, especially African American men. We
don't like going to the doctors. We don't like nothing
to do with a doctor. You know that.
Speaker 3 (12:47):
So I'm not just talking to the brothers.
Speaker 6 (12:48):
I'm talking to my Caucasian brothers, my Hispanic brothers, my
Asian brothers, my everybody, and my sisters.
Speaker 3 (12:54):
And that's all.
Speaker 6 (12:54):
Yo. Get checked out, because it could have been a
whole another gathering if I had. I'm thankful. It's been
a tremendous journey. It's been tough. I think I dropped
twenty five pounds. I was like a land of Falcon
(13:16):
Prime at one point.
Speaker 3 (13:18):
No, I don't want that diet.
Speaker 2 (13:23):
No, sir, listen, guys, if you can hear my voice,
like go get checked out, like there's nothing wrong with it.
I mean, I'm I'm very lucky because you know, Dion
I had the issue with his big toe and it
got infected and after the surgery that he had, and
(13:47):
he almost lost his life because of it, you know,
full disclosure. So did I had to have a toe
removed because of infection and almost died a couple of
years ago. And you know, I never really talked about it,
but like if if it wasn't for.
Speaker 3 (14:10):
Longhorn.
Speaker 2 (14:10):
Great excuse me, Chris Stockton, I probably would have died.
And you know, thanks to my daughter saying, Dad, you
should go to the doctor and get that checked. Otherwise
I probably wouldn't and you know we wouldn't be having
this conversation. You have to go get preemptive strikes, go
(14:32):
to the doctor, get get a battery of tests.
Speaker 3 (14:35):
Regardless.
Speaker 2 (14:36):
There's a lot of stuff you don't even know, you know,
like Dion and he went in for one thing and
they found it. You look at what Nick Saban did
for Coach Sarkisian.
Speaker 3 (14:50):
Coach trust Sarkesian.
Speaker 2 (14:51):
The doctor told them you had weeks you had ninety
eight percent cloggage in your heart. If he hadn't had
that surgery, that checkup about his heart, he would have
had a massive heart. They call it the widow maker.
Like it was. It just surprised you. One day you
(15:13):
grab your chest and then they can't revive you. So
like go get checked out. You never know, and any
little blemish, scratch, scrape, swelling, like you know, you just
got to go get looked at.
Speaker 4 (15:28):
And like I said, Mark, you know, well, well you
know because coach Prime Obtusly had some fun with it
during his press conference in his traditional.
Speaker 3 (15:35):
Dion Sanders prime time way.
Speaker 4 (15:36):
So we'll get to that in a moment, but I
just want to piggyback off off of what you talked
about there, and you know, you mentioned your story and
I know for me hearing this was kind of a
bit of a wake up call, you know, because I
talked with us, talked ab us on the show yesterday.
Speaker 3 (15:50):
You know, I turned thirty four recently, and I'm not
gonna lie.
Speaker 4 (15:53):
You know, you don't really think about your health, right,
your twenties in thirty right, you know you're like, all right,
all I'm worried about is grinded. I'm worried about work.
I'm worried about, you know, relationships. I'm not worried about,
you know, my health.
Speaker 3 (16:06):
Right.
Speaker 4 (16:07):
But a point that you made that it's so crucial
is it's not about recognizing it when something happens. It's
the preemptive here, right, the preventative measure. That's how you
stay on top of things. How many times, Mark do
you hear, Marcus? You hear stories of oh, you know
such and such or someone had such and such, but
(16:28):
they caught it early, right, right, you know the.
Speaker 3 (16:31):
Key to catching it early. Let you go, Marcus.
Speaker 4 (16:33):
Keep catching it early is going in and getting your
check ups and taking care of yourself.
Speaker 2 (16:37):
Or you hear the opposite story, Man, that was fixable.
Speaker 3 (16:42):
If you had just.
Speaker 2 (16:43):
Went in and got that check they could have fixed
that in just a couple of months.
Speaker 3 (16:47):
Yeah, Mark speaks from a personal standpoint.
Speaker 5 (16:49):
I can say the same thing because I just I
am a military veteran, so I go to the VA
all the time and get checked out. I had some
issues that popped up years ago that I've been able
to manage for years, and pretty much now they're telling
me I got I'm supremely better health wise because I
(17:11):
just listened to my doctor and just do what they
say is basically not only you gotta get checked out,
but you gotta listen and trust the process.
Speaker 2 (17:19):
It's hard too, It's hard. Like you know, Dim was
talking about, uh, you know you you you you gotta,
you gotta. He made light of the situation, and we're
gonna get to him making the light of the situation.
But it's very serious and I'm I'm glad that he
(17:40):
can laugh now. I talked to a friend of mine
that told me, he said, Mark, if you would have
been at the big twelve media days. You would have
saw that he was there was something off, like he
just didn't look right and his skin was gray, and
you know, he was moving very sluggish, and he had
(18:02):
people helping him, which I had never seen. And and
you know, we were SEC Media Days all together, and
I said, I wasn't going to bring it up, but
I was. I was a little disappointed with SEC Media
Days because all of us were together, you myself hard.
We we saw an war. We I mean, like the
(18:26):
whole gambit of sports writers were there. Craig Wade was
there with us, and we were supposed to all go
get chicken wings, and and we did we didn't And
I would have went.
Speaker 3 (18:38):
I would have went.
Speaker 2 (18:39):
I know you I've gone, Yeah, y'all, y'all, y'all went
without me, and that's okay, that's okay. I don't go
out anymore. But to get chicken wings, I would have
went out. And then y'all didn't you know, that was
a team bunding experience. Y'all could have been missed opportunity,
missed opportunity. But I'm glad that that is okay. You
(19:01):
know that you know now we'll be able to. I
guarantee you that his team is going to be so
motivated they're gonna want to like really do for the
coach like they love him over there, you know. And
I'm just looking curious to see how long it's going
to be before he's back at practice, because you know
(19:24):
he's he's a little off. He probably should be at
home rested. But I guarantee you he'll go straight to practice. Mark, Well,
two things real quick. One, I've made the pilgrims. You'll
get the chicken wings.
Speaker 4 (19:37):
And I promise you when Texas plays at Georgia this year,
we will go get the wings for sure.
Speaker 3 (19:42):
But Marcus, real quick, there you have time.
Speaker 4 (19:44):
We can play that the sound of kind of make
a little bit of light of the situation, because you
might see a couple of accessories on the Colorado sideline
this year.
Speaker 6 (19:52):
Now, I depend on depend you know, you know what
I mean. I truly depend on depend Like I can't
not control my bladder, so I get up to go
to the bathroom already four or five times a night.
But then I'm sitting up there waking up, you know,
(20:12):
like my grandson.
Speaker 3 (20:14):
We're in the same thing.
Speaker 6 (20:16):
We got the same problem right now, we're going through
the same child and tribulations. We try to see who
has the heaviest bag at the end of the night.
Like this. It's ridiculous, but I'm making a joke out
of it. But it's real. Like it is real. It
is real.
Speaker 3 (20:30):
It is real.
Speaker 6 (20:31):
So if you see Porter party on the sideline, it's real. Okay,
I'm just telling you right now, you're gonna see it.
You're gonna see the practice.
Speaker 3 (20:39):
Wow that listen.
Speaker 4 (20:41):
I've covered college football for a while and I've seen
certain things, Mark, I've seen UNLV they had the slot machine.
Whenever they would score their their touchdown, go, you know,
hit the slot machine. But I have you see the
Porter partty. It will be a first, but it would
be with good reason.
Speaker 3 (20:58):
And also that sponsorship deal he just sniffed in though
he saw it right. You called it, Marcus, Yeah, yeah,
he got.
Speaker 2 (21:04):
That depends And I guarantee you whatever Porter Potty company
that's gonna have the Porter Potty on the sideline, they
gonna make it.
Speaker 3 (21:12):
They gonna make a mind, no doubt about it.
Speaker 4 (21:16):
Morning Kickoff AM, thirteen hundred Zone, Mike Harball, Harts, Mark Henry,
Eric Henry twenty four to seven Sports Tension.
Speaker 3 (21:22):
And for Hardball Harts. We'll be back in a moment.
Speaker 4 (21:26):
Welcome back to the Morning Kickoff AM thirteen hundred the Zone,
and it is time for a special guest here on
the Morning Kickoff in his usual spot at seven thirty
four on Tuesdays, this phenomenal job covering the Texas Longhorns
for Inside Texas. He is Joe Cook of Inside Texas. Joe,
how's it going man.
Speaker 3 (21:46):
Good to hear your voice, man, Thanks for having me on.
Thank you Mark, Yes, sir, good to see you.
Speaker 2 (21:51):
Man.
Speaker 3 (21:51):
Like Joe is you and your usual spot.
Speaker 2 (21:54):
Man, we were We were happy to be able to
get you all lined up and everything. So give us
a scoop man, Like you know, I don't know if
you were at the media availability yesterday, but what did
what did you take out of what the coaches in
the coordinators in that's.
Speaker 7 (22:13):
Uh, we got that coming up today. But we're excited
to you know. I know, Eric and I are pretty
pumped up to get to talk to p K and
Flood and banks because we kind of only get to
do it once a year. Just how Steve Sarkisian operates
and I think everybody who covers these things can attest
that the coordinators are surprisingly candid.
Speaker 3 (22:35):
You know, they're very honest.
Speaker 7 (22:36):
A couple of years ago, after the five and seven season,
Pete quit Calci basically said, you know, like.
Speaker 3 (22:42):
We didn't have a pass rush last year in response
to a question.
Speaker 7 (22:46):
So it's always good to hear their perspective. It's a
little bit different from Sarks obviously, and you know, you
get some you get some insight, not just on some
high level stuff and the people that you're talking to,
but but you know, these guys also coach positions. You know,
Pete Quitkowski has outside linebackers, Flood's got the O line,
(23:07):
Banks has the tight end. So it's a good opportunity
to you know, maybe get some intel when when Steve
Sarkisian's time is so limited. You get some different intel
from a different perspective from these guys, and that you know,
this also kind of lets you know that they are
literally putting on the helmets tomorrow. It's been like the
past couple of years and always gets gets me excited
(23:28):
to go to mon Creech and start the whole process.
Speaker 2 (23:31):
What's the amazing question that you want to ask him.
Speaker 3 (23:35):
Let's see on PK, it's you know, how do you
do it again?
Speaker 7 (23:39):
You had a top three defense last year, You've had
defensive improvement year over year. I was kind of thinking
this morning about how, you know, when we think of
great defensive coordinators in the sport, I don't know, maybe
if it's because we're around him so often, but you
don't often hear Quitkowski's name, And maybe that's because he
doesn't put himself out there all that much for you know,
(24:01):
other opportunities, maybe for head coaching or the NFL, but
you don't hear him in those conversations often. So sometimes
it's you know, what, how do you do this again?
With Flood, it's you know, how do you maybe get
some more punch in the run game. I know you
had a thousand yard rusher, but it took you sixteen
games to get there.
Speaker 3 (24:18):
How do you maybe make up for that?
Speaker 7 (24:19):
And then with Banks, you know, you're you're curious about
jack injuries and tight end, but when you're the special
teams coordinator and you look at some of the metrics
in your bottom half or maybe even bottom twenty and
some of the different rankings, you have to just go
ahead and ask like, hey man, how's it going to
get better.
Speaker 3 (24:38):
Again if you just join us.
Speaker 4 (24:39):
We're joined by Joe Cook of Inside Texas, a phenomenal
job covering the Longhorns for On three Sports. Joe, I
just want to piggyback off of what you said there,
and of course I'll also cover this team.
Speaker 3 (24:49):
I can relate that.
Speaker 4 (24:50):
You know, the coordinator availability is great for a myriad
of reasons, but we're also getting assistance as well, and
I'm just curious you know, your thought process on that,
the fact that we're also eating the assistant coaches and
especially with the you know, I don't want to say
staff turnover because obviously the coordinat has remained the same,
but you have seen some position coaches leave. What you're
most looking forward to it is there one assistant coach
(25:12):
maybe that that you're looking forward to hearing from more
than and you know another Yeah, and.
Speaker 7 (25:17):
I know Eric, you guys have been going over position
previews over on Horns two four seven, and well, I
know there's you. You have to look at the players
and you have to understand who's there. You also have
to understand you know, the new names. Mark Orfey covering corners,
covering corners, Dwayne a Keina being back, you know, Chad
(25:38):
Scott coaching running backs and a big year that's for
running backs. So a lot of these guys are they
are replacing very well liked assistants and it's easy to
be well liked when you.
Speaker 3 (25:48):
Have the successes that Texas has had. So how do
they keep it going?
Speaker 7 (25:53):
We hear stark talk all the time about how they
have the same offensive, defensive, and special teams play caller,
but there's still been turnover, you know, at all.
Speaker 3 (26:02):
Those different spots that we mentioned.
Speaker 7 (26:03):
So how do those guys come and fit in and
figure out how to not only put their own spin
on things, have their own voice.
Speaker 3 (26:11):
We know Dwayne Akina has his own voice, but how
do they come in and not only.
Speaker 7 (26:15):
Do that, but still fit in with what their coordinator
and what Steve Starkesian wants as a head coach heading
into a fifth year.
Speaker 4 (26:24):
Joe, you know, we do the circuit all the time,
and of course this question is asked whenever we do
the media circuit, and I'm going to be no different
here and ask it to you here, arch Manning, What
are you looking to hear? Is there any possibility that
you think, you know, you could glean something from a
Kyle Flood, from an aj Milwey that you feel you
don't already know about. The Arch Manning era officially beginning
(26:48):
at Texas is here.
Speaker 7 (26:51):
Yeah, Ak Milwy's going to provide some interesting perspective. We
really don't get to hear his voice all that often,
and I know he's got the co of and'sive coordinator role.
Speaker 3 (27:01):
He works with the quarterbacks.
Speaker 7 (27:02):
You and I we look up any picture we're trying
to use of arch for a story and he's probably
gonna be in it. But you know, I was glad
that the Alabama radio station asked a question about him
at SEC Media Days, because he really is someone who
could honestly be a rising star. Yet he has play
calling experience already, for better or worse.
Speaker 3 (27:24):
He worked for a Bowden, I believe, and you know.
Speaker 7 (27:28):
He's someone who is gonna be coming off at some point,
probably going to be coming off that Steve starkeisan coaching
Tree to find an offensive coordinator role. But until then,
you know, he's got meal tickets not the right word,
but he's.
Speaker 3 (27:42):
Got an amazing opportunity to coach Arch Manning.
Speaker 7 (27:44):
You know, it's not it's a it's a position he
put himself in by being a key part of the
recruiting process and going to Isidore Newman and connecting with
the Manning family. Uh So, I will hear about flood
and I always, you know, we we so what's gonna
be different, and there's gonna be some run around and
stuff like that. But I'm really curious just to hear
(28:06):
his perspectives specifically, because we don't hear it all too often,
because you know, he's not someone who has the voice
that we hear when talking about quarterbacks. And I know
he's not gonna say anything outlandish, but this is someone
who you know, sees Tarkesian trust every day to make
sure that our schin Treo and some kJ Lacey and
(28:27):
Matthew Caldwell are are doing things right. And he's got
to give the product to his head coach and say,
all right, here are your guys to work with.
Speaker 3 (28:34):
Let's let's go do something.
Speaker 4 (28:38):
Joe, before we get you out of here, just want
to ask you, what are some of the things that
you're working on right now at inside Texas that the
folks can look forward to with fall camp on the
horizon as you mentioned the players getting ready to get
back to the practice fields of Frank Deinias on Wednesday.
Speaker 7 (28:53):
Yeah, We've we've got some position previews going up as well.
We're always gonna you know, cover and practice is. I know,
some of it's depth chart, but some of it is
also observations and like to you know, make sure we
always have those those practice reports up quick, just like everybody.
But you know, one thing I remember hearing about is
(29:15):
or and I'm looking back on, is this isn't too
dissimilar from that two thousand and five team. And I
as someone who's kind of been around this team for
most of my waking life, Like you can get tired
of the two thousand and five comparisons. But like when
you're playing at Ohio State, when you have a cornerback
who's number one overall, when you have all these you know,
(29:38):
oh so close opportunities in the prior years, and then
you finally think this may be the opportunity. It's a
different era, it's a different you know, way of doing things.
The game looks a lot different, you know, but it's
still one of those things where you can't help but
look back and see are there parallels and then maybe
are there some some different, you know, ways of different
(30:02):
differences between you know, this year and twenty years ago
aside from the two decades fan So you know, as
you know, you're always balancing the immediate in the long term.
But the immediate's gonna be a lot of fun. I
know you and I look forward to being out there
and sweating in the afternoon and watching the other guys
pound pads, So it would be a lot of fun
(30:23):
this week.
Speaker 3 (30:24):
Appreciate you, Joe, You're a bess.
Speaker 7 (30:27):
Mark, Eric, thanks to us seeing the best thing that
we're seeing in a couple.
Speaker 3 (30:30):
Of hours there, I'll see you in a couple hours.
Speaker 4 (30:32):
Joe back with the morning kickoff here on AM thirteen
hundred The Zone.
Speaker 3 (30:36):
We'll be back in them all.
Speaker 4 (30:40):
Welcome back to the Morning Kickoff Sports Radio AM thirteen
hundred The Zone. Eric Henry of twenty four to seven
Sports fill in for Hardball Hart, who was on a
well deserved vacation alongside w W Hall of Famer and
the World's Strongest man's right Mark Henry. Before we dive
into the topic here awesome. Got to remember to check
(31:01):
out the Craig Way Show from two to six If
you missed the show, listen to it on The Craig
Way Show podcast, available on the iHeartRadio app or wherever
you listen to podcasts.
Speaker 2 (31:16):
Last week, Eric I got to do The Craig Way
Show and we did that music edition and it was
really really cool man, like sitting there talking to you know,
and I've idalized Craig for a long time, and you know,
most of us guys in the sports media, you know,
we look at Craig as being like the godfather of
(31:40):
Austin radio. And even he's not that old, like he's
just been around a long time. Like Craig has been
doing radio since his twenties, so like, you know, to
be able to have somebody like him around to learn
from one and to actually get on a show with him.
(32:01):
I love listening to show. Him and camp Park are
awesome man in the afternoon.
Speaker 4 (32:06):
You know, Mark, I'm really glad you mentioned that, because,
like I said, we are going to get into Crystal
contest talks officially making a statement on the House settlement.
And Dan Davis, as the Autian American Statesman, wrote an
article on that, but kind of piggyback.
Speaker 3 (32:19):
Off what you said.
Speaker 4 (32:20):
You know, I've talked about on the show with you guys,
you know, me not being a native Texan, you being
a Fluoridian. You know, I didn't grow up listen to
Craig Way, right, I didn't grow up listen to the calls.
You know, the Texas Longhorn calls are you know, high
school sports. But honestly, Mark, you hit the nail on
the head. One of the great pleasures of you know,
taking this job and joining the Beat has been getting
(32:41):
to know Craig Way, because the guy truly is a legend,
does a phenomenal job, and for anyone who's aspiring in
media or even just in general, you know, great guy
to bounce ideas off of and to learn from. So
I just want to piggyback off off what you said there, because,
again me being an outsider having no real knowledge of Craig,
I've quickly gotten up to speed there.
Speaker 2 (33:01):
And he's quick to volunteer information. A lot of times.
People like him. You know, you got to get on
his schedule. You got to go through somebody and talk
to another person in order to get some time with him.
Speaker 3 (33:13):
Craig is like, hey, what's up, Mark, Come here, let
me show you something.
Speaker 2 (33:17):
Just like talks to you like I think it's like
one of the biggest perks and it's helped with my
learning curve as in being a journalist and learning how
to prep and write down your thoughts so you don't
have to think on the fly. Even though it helps
to have a brain and to be able to think
on the fly, don't always rely on that, because you
(33:40):
can you can have misrepresent yourself by giving your thoughts
rather than the facts. And I'm quick to say, hey,
this is a this is a Mark Henry take and
not a fact, so that that comes from Craig.
Speaker 3 (33:57):
Well, it's also with Craig.
Speaker 5 (34:00):
He's so available and the fact like when I was
just an intern at another station, Craig was there and
I just basically was like you you see Craig way
you need If you want information, might as well ask
and he's so available. He will answer your questions, like
like simple things you just wonder about when it comes
to media, radio, whatever, He's there for you.
Speaker 3 (34:21):
Yeah, he did everything, you know.
Speaker 2 (34:23):
He mentioned that not long ago that he's done every
job in radio from in turning to board operating, to producing,
to writing, to being the owner personality to being a
sportscaster to being covering the games live and calling multiple
(34:47):
sports Baseball, basketball, football, Like, who does that?
Speaker 3 (34:53):
This is what you call it impromptu set session in radio.
Speaker 5 (34:57):
We just, you know, decided to just give a Craig
Way all his flowers, all his flowers.
Speaker 3 (35:06):
Miss Kante and what he said, Eric.
Speaker 4 (35:10):
Yeah, it's interesting you mentioned you talked about here's gonna
be a nice little segue here, hopefully the professional segue.
Mark talked about Craig giving the tools to think on
his fly, but also give facts.
Speaker 3 (35:21):
Here is a topic where there's.
Speaker 4 (35:22):
Been a lot of thinking on the fly, but also
trying to find the facts. The House Settlement officially was enacted,
and a lot of ads across the nation. We saw
Alabama's Greg Byrne, We saw Florida's Jeremy Stricklands. Memory starts me, correct,
Scott Strickland. We saw plenty of ads across the nation
(35:44):
give their thoughts. If you know Chris del Kante, he
tends to play his cards a little close to the vest,
but when it was time he spoke to several folks
and then Danny Davis of the Austin American Statesman, Danny
Davis will be on the show tomorrow in his usual spot,
I wrote an article it's up at the Austin American Statesman.
Speaker 3 (36:02):
Here are some of the facts.
Speaker 4 (36:03):
Texas seventy five percent of the twenty point five million
dollar revenue share will go to the UT Longhorn football program.
Fifteen percent and I want you to hear this number correctly,
fifteen percent will go to men's basketball. I'm going to
come back to that in a second, but those were
(36:24):
the two sports that generated revenue during the twenty twenty
four fiscal year. Of the remaining ten percent here, yeah,
of the remaining ten percent, five will go to women's
basketball and the rest will be split amongst the UT
Athletic department. Mark, I'm going to come to you in
a second. I know you have your thoughts and opinions.
I'm going to kind of give a little bit of
(36:46):
background here. I outlined men's basketball because this is something
that we reported extensively over at Horns twenty four to
seven dot com last basketball season for all of the conversation,
Mark and Marcus and listen. I couldn't win last year
from basketball, all right, because I got called a Rodney
Terry defender by some at the only I'm here to
(37:06):
tell you right now, and that's a bad thing. The
only person who didn't think I was a Rodney Terry
defender was Rodney Terry. Okay, so I could not win
regardless of the situation. But a point that I always
made is we did reporting in terms of NIL spending.
Texas was a middle of the pack SEC team in
(37:27):
terms of NILE spending last year when it came to basketball,
And my point was always for whatever you think of
the coaching job, Rodney Terry did, whatever you think of
the results, Especially in college basketball, you have to spend money.
The Kentucky's, the UNCS, the Dukes, et cetera. They're not
pinching pennies to go get players. Right, So fifteen percent
(37:48):
mark going to basketball, that's huge.
Speaker 2 (37:51):
Fifteen twenty million is a nice hunk of change. And
there's only fifteen players on the team. And then you
may have an additional five guys that train and walk
on that walk ons that they come in and they're
they're practice guys. They're not elite, but they're good basketball
(38:12):
players and you need guys to work with.
Speaker 3 (38:15):
But seventy of twenty million dollars.
Speaker 2 (38:20):
There's some high level basketball players in the country that
have gone to Florida, they have gone to Creighton, that
have gone to Duke because they know Duke is comfortable
with spending that money. Now, Texas is going to be
in that category.
Speaker 4 (38:37):
And Mark, you know, I kind of gave you an
analogy yesterday that I think this is the ideal for
Texas when it comes to basketball. Right, don't necessarily compare
Texas men's basketball to Kentucky. I'm using an sec counterpart.
Look at Alabama, look at Auburn, look at Florida. Schools
that are always going to be football first. But Alabama's
(38:58):
competed for a national title within the past five years.
Florida has obviously had a lot of successfulinn national titles
going back over the last two decades. That's a school
that Texas can be market as someone who's, you know,
through and through a Longhorn. I know you're, you know,
your football first guy, But in your mind, just from
a fans perspective, what are your expectations? What do you
think of Longhorn basketball? Do you think it should be
(39:20):
Sweet sixteen, Elite eight? What are your your expectations yearly
with what.
Speaker 3 (39:26):
Coach Terry had last season?
Speaker 2 (39:28):
And I was a coach Terry supporter, but coach Terry
didn't get the resources that coach Miller has gotten. Like
if coach Terry would have been able to get fifteen
percent of twenty million, and he could have went out
and said, hey, we really want you on this team,
(39:48):
and we're going to make it a priority to be
able to pay you what the rate right now of
what your caliber player is getting nationally, but we want
you at Texas.
Speaker 3 (40:01):
That's the sale that he never could do.
Speaker 2 (40:05):
So, you know, him getting Trey Johnson was because Trey
Johnson wanted to come here. He wanted to be a Longhorn.
But can you imagine if Trade Johnson would have been
able to play with Fears at Oklahoma right what they
could have done together, a true point guard that can
(40:26):
dominate that winning the draft.
Speaker 3 (40:28):
So that's that's where Texas is now.
Speaker 2 (40:30):
And with Ogden and uh, you know all of these
other young superstars that are going to come into the
league now they're coming to Texas.
Speaker 5 (40:41):
Well, here's a question of this is money that's separate
from nil.
Speaker 3 (40:45):
Correct, it is separate.
Speaker 4 (40:47):
You're correct, it's money that is separate, So it wouldn't
necessarily applied last year. But to Mark's point, there was
some hesitancy, whether that was from donors or whoever it
may be, to kind of truly fund in a way
that you could compete for those type of players.
Speaker 3 (41:01):
Mark, So now you get both.
Speaker 5 (41:03):
Well see the reason why I bring that up because
if you come to Texas at because basketball, your face
is out there. You see them on the court. They're
more visible. Football you got Helmazong. You you know, even
though we're in Austin with Texas football town. You get
an athlete who's a basketball player, who who has that
(41:23):
personality he could he can still make that money on
the back end in basketball just out of nil alone.
Speaker 4 (41:33):
Marcus super quick, if Kevin Durant played in this era,
not just the Nile era, but the would what would
you pay Kevin Durant? Well for that number would be crazy.
That number would be three, four or five million dollars.
But to Marcus's point, the opportunity to earn.
Speaker 3 (41:51):
Money on the back end with your likeness.
Speaker 4 (41:53):
The opportunities that will come to Texas versus being at
a BYU or somewhere else right like, those things would
be real. And Mark to cap it on this and
this is the point that listen, I will die on
this hill.
Speaker 3 (42:04):
I've had some folks, you.
Speaker 4 (42:05):
Know, within the previous administration, it was a couple hundred
thousand dollars that made the difference between Texaget and JT.
Topping and not so now they'll have the opportunity to spend.
Speaker 3 (42:16):
But oh, go ahead, Mark, I'm sorry.
Speaker 2 (42:18):
No, I was just saying, we'll come back after this break.
We'll go, We'll go take a little break right here
and come back with more sports talk on thirteen hundred Zone,
Austin Sports Radio.
Speaker 3 (42:33):
It is the.
Speaker 4 (42:33):
Morning kickoff on AM thirteen hundred the Zone. The Henry
Men in the building today, law Firm, Henry and Henry,
World strongest Man, Mark Henry and.
Speaker 3 (42:44):
Seven Sports Guy. Yes, sir, yes, sir Mark.
Speaker 4 (42:47):
Before we jump into things, get let the folks know that. Now,
when you're listening to AM thirteen hundred Zone on the
free art Radio app, you can talk to one of
us with one tap.
Speaker 3 (42:57):
It is a new talk back Mike. Here's how it works.
Speaker 4 (43:00):
Just open and thirteen hundred Zone on the free iHeartRadio app.
And then when you have something to say, tap the
talk back Mike and record your message. But make sure
you showed the proper respect, because when you're talking to Mark,
if you don't, you might end up catching.
Speaker 3 (43:15):
The world's Strongest slam.
Speaker 5 (43:18):
You sounded like one of those cowboy Posse's and the
Henry Boys.
Speaker 2 (43:23):
Oh yeah, I love those Western movies. And you know what, Eric,
I don't want to get into a long, down drip
about it. But like for those that like westerns, you
might think that I'm joking right here, but I'm kind
of a nerd when it comes to what I watch.
(43:46):
I went and saw Fantastic Four last night. Awesome, The Mandalorian.
If you watch the Mandalorian series on Disney, which is
a uh space movie, but on Mandalorre, it's like a Western.
(44:08):
So watch Mandalorian you'll get your country Western fix.
Speaker 3 (44:13):
It's incredible, it's awsome. I always have some time on.
Speaker 4 (44:17):
The road and I try to watch some sort of
movie or just some sort of deal. So I might
have to take you up on that, Mark and give
you a a little book report.
Speaker 2 (44:25):
I mean you, you didn't expect to get a little
movie TV streaming device talk this morning.
Speaker 4 (44:32):
Listen, Mark, I know you're a renaissance man, a man
who's traveled the world like you have you pick up
some things from Tom to Thomas. I never doubt the
world's strongest man. What's in his back? I never doubt
what his bag for sure? But what's in our bags?
A little bit of NBA talk. Remember we got the
World's Strongest Take coming next segment. But Mark, you showed
(44:52):
me something, and I know you and Marcus both got
a laugh with My response was, yesterday you showed me
an image of Luka Doncic And my first response was
is that.
Speaker 3 (45:03):
That's a I And.
Speaker 2 (45:06):
I'm gonna be talking about this in my World's Strongest Take,
And so I don't want to. I don't want to
delve too much into the fact that if you go out, guys,
and and and and get Men's Health magazine this month,
you're gonna see something that's gonna strike you. And I'm
(45:27):
I'm looking forward to basketball. We're in football right now,
and and we're gonna give you a little bit of
basketball talk.
Speaker 3 (45:34):
So all of the.
Speaker 2 (45:35):
Basketball heads out there and you're looking to hear something
some little news and nuggets.
Speaker 3 (45:42):
Uh in this period.
Speaker 2 (45:44):
The next segment, World's Strongest Take by the World's Strongest Man.
Speaker 3 (45:50):
He's gonna be a little basketball.
Speaker 4 (45:52):
Talk so I won't spoil the Luca take because I
was in marksan to do that in his world wrongest take.
But I do have to piggyback, and I won't go Luca.
Speaker 3 (46:03):
I'm gonna go with the Lakers.
Speaker 4 (46:04):
I'm gonna go in to different directions cause I want
to leave Mark All the room to give his take.
Lebron James, the modern Marvel, entering his twenty second year
in the NBA.
Speaker 3 (46:16):
Fellas, I am curious because I will say this.
Speaker 4 (46:19):
You know, I am an Orlando Magic fan. The Magic
probably is still a year or two away from competing
all over. The East is wide open, but the West
does feel loaded with a lot of teams making moves
KD for its returning back to the lone Star state.
But this is something I'm keeping on with the Lakers,
right because I know Lakers fans, you know, you always
it always surprises me, you know. I know I'm here
(46:40):
in Texas. I know when I'm talking to Cowboys fans. Here,
I'm talking to true cowboys fans. But just like the Cowboys,
the Lakers. You could go to, you know, Miami, Florida
find eight thousand Lakers fans, right like this is pop
up all over the place.
Speaker 3 (46:53):
But the thing that could derail the Lakers.
Speaker 4 (46:55):
Season in my mind, guys, is if Lebron for the
first time in his career fellas he's not the focal
point anymore. Let's let's let's think about this. From the
time he was sixteen years old, he's been the guy.
He's been the main focus of every basketball team. He's
been off Mark for the first time. Can when you've
(47:16):
been an athlete of that caliber, that level, how do
you step back and say, all right, it's taught me
to pass the rock, it's me to pass the torch.
Speaker 2 (47:23):
Well, I'm gonna I'm going to enlighten you and for
all the basketball fans. Tighten up right now, because this
is going to be very Mark Henry Lebron like a
love fest. Lebron James has never been the guy that
was selfish, that made it about him on the court.
(47:45):
He always made it about him in the pay and
the marketing and the influence of who is on the
team with him, because he made it about out him.
With the ownership and with the coaching staff. Now that's
all gone. He's still got the power from the standpoint
(48:09):
of money. But they can if Lebron James said, Hey,
if y'all want to go young and y'all want to
get assets, trade me to Miami, Trade me to Orlando.
Those are teams with a lot of draft picks and
a lot of valuable players that can play with Luca
for the next five years. You have to trade him
(48:33):
somewhere where there's assets. But he's got to want to
do it, and people got to accept the fifty million
dollars that he's going to get paid this one year.
If you get rid of Lebron James, now, then that
money goes away from your cap, and then you'll be
able to afford a lot, especially and you're gonna need
(48:56):
to afford a lot because you're gonna have to pay
Luca access of two hundred and eighty to two hundred
and ninety million dollars next year.
Speaker 3 (49:06):
So what do you do.
Speaker 2 (49:09):
It's all in Lebron's court because he allowed himself to
have that power. But the ownership group has said that
we're going to take that power away from him, and
all of all the expenses and all of the future
conversations dealing with our cap is going to be about
what is going to happen with Luca next season and
(49:32):
the following season.
Speaker 3 (49:33):
So this is Lebron's swan song with the Lakers.
Speaker 2 (49:38):
The Lakers will not re sign him after this season,
and Lebron James, if he wants to play and continue
to play in the NBA, he's gonna have to do
it elsewhere.
Speaker 4 (49:50):
I just find it super fascinating because you made the
point that's key, Mark, Like this is not only this year,
this whole whatever you want to call the duration of
lebron kres left is his swan song. And Mark, we've
seen you know, the retirement tour, right, Kobe kind of
get the retirement tour and all the greats. How does
Lebron handle this? Because you know he's not going to
(50:12):
show up out of shape. He's not gonna handle his
business in a way it's going to be detrimental to
the team. But he's been the focal point, right, And
like as I alluded to when I talked about the West,
you got to have all your ducks in a row
because Victor Wenbinyama's coming. You know, at some point everything's
gonna click for the guy. He's a seven to seven guard, right,
(50:32):
who can do all these crazy things.
Speaker 3 (50:34):
Some's gonna click for the Spurs at some point.
Speaker 2 (50:36):
He's a created player, Max mac lebe mac dream shooting
the Billy.
Speaker 3 (50:44):
They just made him in a lab.
Speaker 5 (50:46):
I think it is funny because I was just having
a conversation about Lebron the same I said the same things,
like if you was to create a basketball player from
scratch and you put all the high attributes, it would
be Lebron James.
Speaker 3 (50:58):
But victim Winbiyana is even that on another level, and
when it all clicks, it all comes together.
Speaker 4 (51:08):
I don't know how you stop him and have any chance.
I mean it's like he's like you said, Marcus an
NBA two K credit player.
Speaker 3 (51:16):
Yeah, and get back to Lebron James.
Speaker 2 (51:18):
I love to stay on the Spurs because I'm a
Spurs and Lakers fan, but I really do feel like
that Lebron James is one of those guys that he
enjoys the circus being around him. And if the Lakers
(51:38):
are not going to do that, then they should just trade.
They should ask him where do you want to go
and just go ahead and settle it now, like for
this season, so another team could actually get him for
this year and the following year you get two years
rather than one year, because who knows, Lebron James may
(52:02):
not be the Lebron James that we see saw this
past season, this upcoming year, definitely not.
Speaker 3 (52:10):
In the next two years.
Speaker 4 (52:12):
It's a fascinating thing to think about that the end
is near for Lebron James. But the Morning Kickoff AM
thirteen hundred to Zone, Mark Henry, Eric Henry, We'll be
back in a moment. Welcome back to the Morning Kickoff
Sports Radio A and thirteen hundred Zone.
Speaker 3 (52:29):
Mike Harball, harj Mark.
Speaker 4 (52:31):
Henry, Eric Henry and Chaton for Harvall Harge on a
well deserved vacation.
Speaker 3 (52:37):
And you heard the sound that means can only mean
one thing.
Speaker 4 (52:42):
It is time for the world's Strongest take from the
world's strongest man himself.
Speaker 3 (52:48):
Mark Henry. E. You know what time it is, your sir,
It's time.
Speaker 2 (52:56):
For the world's strongest take by the world strong this man.
My guess back then they didn't know me. Now I'm hot,
They all on me.
Speaker 3 (53:10):
And guess what not only are they all on me,
ladies and gentlemen.
Speaker 2 (53:18):
They are all on Luca Donage.
Speaker 3 (53:23):
Luca is right now.
Speaker 2 (53:28):
Two hundred and fifty pounds if Luca is two hundred
and fifty pounds right now. How much did he weigh
during the season, Because I'm gonna give you a little understanding.
If he is two hundred and fifty now, he's six'
(53:51):
eight two hundred and fifty pounds he had to.
Speaker 3 (53:55):
Be if he lost thirty, pounds.
Speaker 2 (54:01):
Then that means That luca was two hundred and eighty
pounds playing guard in THE. Nba go out and Buy Men's.
Health luca donegons is on the. Cover he started his
training With Lebron james, trainer but when he decided to go.
Speaker 3 (54:22):
Back home To, croatia trainer And mayek.
Speaker 2 (54:29):
Started a workout program with him to work on his,
agility his, diet also shooting, drills and he has two
training sessions a. Day one is for, flexibility, stretching, meditating
diet workout, plans and then the other one is for
(54:49):
basketball related things lifting and he is now working with
resistance bands on his arms and legs where everything that
he does and basketball operations.
Speaker 3 (55:03):
Has a trainer pulling on him with every shot that he.
Speaker 2 (55:07):
Takes the workout consists of a series of circuits on
court challenges and extreme lower.
Speaker 3 (55:16):
Body and upper body.
Speaker 2 (55:17):
Exercise the facility where he's being trained is where he's
vacationed every summer as a. Team but he did not
work out with. Weights Luka donach has not ever worked
out with.
Speaker 3 (55:35):
Weights let me say that.
Speaker 2 (55:37):
Again Luka donage is one of the top five basketball
players in THE.
Speaker 3 (55:43):
Nba he has never lifted.
Speaker 2 (55:48):
Weights, guys THE nba is about to be taken over by.
Storm if you go and look at these Photos luca
at two hundred and fifty pounds in six,' eight with
all of, his abilities the light switches.
Speaker 3 (56:08):
Came on.
Speaker 2 (56:10):
How do you defend the guy that already had two
hundred and eighty pounds running the point, guard position leading
scoring thirty points, a game and not being in shape
and not lifting weights and not being strong still DOMINATED.
Speaker 3 (56:28):
The nba.
Speaker 2 (56:32):
You Say, Michael jordan You Say, lebron james You Say.
Kobe bryant those abilities, had, Training Right luka donich has
done all of these things without lifting weights and without,
training properly without.
Speaker 3 (56:51):
Eating properly what is his endurance going to be like in?
The game what is his news? Found strength he was,
all right.
Speaker 2 (57:00):
RETY stronger i mean his weight played a part, in it,
you know you have a two hundred pounds guard trying
to play a guy two hundred and. Eighty pounds you
see how he, Bodied people but now he's going to.
Speaker 3 (57:15):
Be strong he's got.
Speaker 2 (57:17):
Rubber bands they are holding him by the waist with
bands while he's. Making, layups. Luca Donnish these these two
things tell me.
Speaker 3 (57:29):
A lot one he ran a seven. Minute mile.
Speaker 2 (57:37):
Go try it at six eight two hundred and, fifty
pounds go run a seven.
Speaker 3 (57:43):
Minute mile the other thing that he did that was
impressive to Me is luca did. Vertical testing go look
at the magazine forty. Inch vertical, come.
Speaker 2 (58:04):
On man a motivated guy if he can play with
the motivation Of A, michael Jordan A, kobe Bryant A
lebron james with his abilities like we May See Michael
Jordan kobe bryant type, of output what, Say, You eric

Speaker 4 (58:59):
Per EXPERIENCE so i played a Year at division two
FOOTBALL for i REALIZED the nfl was not in any
real shortage of five nine linebackers AND decided i better
take MY behind ucf and go get an education and
Do what. I'm doing BUT when i WAS, at ucf
they Recruited Heavily. European mark and when you would talk to,
those dudes when they'd, come over they'd, be, like yo
(59:22):
we didn't train.
Speaker 3 (59:23):
With weights we just.
Speaker 4 (59:24):
Got up we ate the food that was cooked for us,
bive parents and we go, play ball.
Speaker 3 (59:29):
All right because you turn pro, at fifteen you drink.
Speaker 4 (59:32):
A little earlier over there at that side of, the
country right outside of, the, world right and you. Go
hoo and it would be this shock to their system
when they would come in here and get the weight
training and, everything else and you'd see how their. Bodies
responded you Couple that mark with the fact that this
is still a very.
Speaker 3 (59:48):
Young, dude yeah. Twenty five the point.
Speaker 4 (59:53):
That you close with saying that when he gets, the
mentality he's still a. Young dude it's just clicking for
him now out if he can take all of those
things and, Harness, THEM mark i agree.
Speaker 3 (01:00:06):
With YOU the nba could be looking at. A.
Speaker 2 (01:00:08):
MONSTER well, i mean he even said in this ARTICLE
that i don't show FATIGUE like i.
Speaker 3 (01:00:16):
Did Before.
Speaker 2 (01:00:18):
And i'm, JUST visually i, would say in my, Whole
life i've never looked. As good he cares about how he.
Looks now he sees, the difference and the evidence is
is how dominant his training has. Been done uh and
(01:00:40):
he said that is now my arms Look. Like lebron's
that is crazy. To me my take is That the lakers.
Are unlocked you always say that they have the unlocked
characters in. The, Games right luca has, been unlocked AND
(01:01:00):
the nba better watch.
Speaker 4 (01:01:01):
Out and unlocked And Unleashed, luka, DONCIC. Lookout nba we'll

THIS mark i live. For, it this, this SONG this
i don't even know what this song, is CALLED but
i want to put it on.
Speaker 3 (01:01:41):
My playlist you know what's a great thing, About, it,
mark IS like.
Speaker 4 (01:01:46):
I said Yesterday, on monday it's a song that, you
know if you're going through It.
Speaker 3 (01:01:50):
On mondays you know it can help you. Get through
but it's any day of.
Speaker 4 (01:01:54):
The week it Could, Be friday oh you're getting, Off,
work saturday any day of.
Speaker 2 (01:01:58):
The, Week, MARK yeah i think that one of THE
things i like. About it it reminds me Of. Like
summertime you remember The Song Will, Smith's, Summertime right it's
just like if you can't be joyful and put a
smile on your face when You hear summertime or that
this song, right here like you need to reevaluate the people.
Speaker 3 (01:02:21):
Around you you need.
Speaker 2 (01:02:24):
Life is life is very short to have a tight
face like and. Enjoy yourself smell the roses. Most Definitely,
but mark.
Speaker 4 (01:02:34):
Before we get out, of here then a lot of
talking about things we're Excited about.
Speaker 3 (01:02:38):
TEXAS football I know i'm Fired up i'm.
Speaker 4 (01:02:40):
Jetting right off of the air heading too The Mon
creef athletics facility to hear From The. Texas Longhorns, but
mark who in sports are you tired of? Hearing from
just like you don't want to? Hear ANYMORE and i got,
my NAME but i don't know if YOU know i
can go first and give you, my name. My gud
(01:03:00):
i'm sorry to. DO it i know There's Some pittsburgh
steeler fans are probably in. The Audience, aaron rodgers, you
know just whenever you decide to hang, him up hang,
him up, That's cool but stop telling people all they're
all in, my business they're.
Speaker 3 (01:03:16):
All this you don't move in a way that speaks
of someone who doesn't want people in. His business you,
Know what you're a one hundred.
Speaker 2 (01:03:25):
PERCENT right i was Gonna, say Aaron but i'm gonna
go with my second choice since you already, Said Him. Bill,
Belichick okay i'm so tired of hearing. About him i'm
tired of hearing about. His girlfriend i'm tired of being
like when you bring your business and your personal life into.
Speaker 3 (01:03:46):
Play and you, will, Say well bill didn't. Do it
it was the world.
Speaker 2 (01:03:49):
Around, him no he allowed her to come in and
talk to people in a way that ruined the relationship
with him and the people at the good People At
north carolina they said.
Speaker 3 (01:04:08):
They don't they don't want her.
Speaker 2 (01:04:10):
Around, football operations like if you run his, social media
run it from.
Speaker 3 (01:04:16):
Your house and then they, you know they try to
retract the statement.
Speaker 2 (01:04:22):
And everything but the sports writers were. Not lying they
were in. The room it was like all of us
when we WERE at sec. Media day when you make
a statement and, you, say well this is what's this
is the way it's going to be, going forward then that's, the,
(01:04:42):
law right that's. The plan you cannot pull that. Statement
Back and i'm just tired. Of it, you know every
cycle on radio when they start talking about who's on the,
hot seed are who can make a break?
Speaker 3 (01:05:00):
A season i Think.
Speaker 2 (01:05:01):
That bill belichick is a, great COACH but i just
lost my appetite for hearing anything about him because of
all of the, other situations all of the other negativity
that floats around hearing, about him and it's a little creepy.
TO me i, don't Know maybe I'm being i'm looking
(01:05:24):
at the situation as an. Older guy the last thing
that you want, you know see these old seventy year
old man with twenty year old girls like it just
seems a little odd, To, me.
Speaker 5 (01:05:41):
Mark and acting LIKE your, i mean and doing it
all through social media is the part that. Makes it
you can do whatever you want to do in your,
private LIFE and i, understand that, you know social media
is for entertainment, purposes only but you are that figure
for a college sports.
Speaker 3 (01:06:00):
Football team so that's when the game gets changes and.
Speaker 4 (01:06:06):
Real quick to kind of piggyback Off of marcus Said,
and mark if you're ready for a hot, TAKE care
i firmly. Believe this maybe It's because i've covered college
sports for, you know this is my tennes season covering.
College sports, college sports you can fracture a team more
easily in college THAN, the nfl because IN the nfl
you're talking, to professionals you're talking about, Growing adults you're
(01:06:28):
talking about it kind of being insulated in. A sense in,
college Sports as marcus is, alluded to so much of
this is trying to appeal to seventeen to twenty three year,
olds right which means, social media.
Speaker 3 (01:06:39):
You have to do.
Speaker 4 (01:06:40):
It RIGHT and i think this is just a lesson
in learning that, you know if you look at The
way texas Football And, steve starkesian they're active on, social,
media right but it's all comes back to football And
Where bill belichick may have lost, His way Mark and
marcus is this never inevitably made its way back.
Speaker 2 (01:06:58):
To football so so look at the. Double standard, you
know there's always a. Double standard and imagine if it was,
you know this Is A bill belichick is dealing with
these young seventeen to twenty five year old men and
boys in, certain cases what if it was the opposite
and it was a seventy year old woman, that was,
(01:07:24):
you know dealing with these these, young men and then
she had a relationship.
Speaker 3 (01:07:31):
With one how it would look like it's the same?
TO me, I don't.
Speaker 2 (01:07:38):
I don't i don't really believe that the double standard
Thing should as, A parent i wouldn't want my kid
involved in that situation because it's. Not okay and there
are other SITUATIONS that i see on a daily BASIS
that i feel like.
Speaker 3 (01:07:55):
Is improper for.
Speaker 2 (01:07:56):
Young people and you can judge me all you, want
to but it's my Opinion and i'm sticking, to IT
and i just don't agree.
Speaker 3 (01:08:06):
With IT and i think. THAT is i think.
Speaker 2 (01:08:10):
It is.
Speaker 3 (01:08:10):
It's unpalatable it's a. Bad look it's a.
Speaker 4 (01:08:13):
Bad look it's super fascinating to hear, You said mark
that you feel like it could have a. Negative effect
you could have the opposite effect. Then intended but certainly
a team that does not have that Issue Is. Texas
football and we are looking forward to hearing From the.
Horns today we'll be back Tomorrow and i'll bring back
all this out, from coordinators, assistant coaches whoever we, hear.
Speaker 3 (01:08:35):
From you will hear it here on the.
Speaker 4 (01:08:38):
Morning Kickoff appreciate mark for letting me sit in Pinch
hit mark for.
Speaker 3 (01:08:42):
My man we'll do more of.
Speaker 4 (01:08:44):
It tomorrow we'll do it, Over tomorrow we'll do it.
All week marcus world. STRONGEST man I Am. Eric Henry,
Morning kickoff thanks, for listening and we'll be back to
do it, again tomorrow bright, and early seven AM on am.
Speaker 3 (01:08:57):
Thirteen Hundred the zone
