(03:34):

Speaker 2 (03:35):
I would like to say that I'm speechless, but I
have never been that.
Speaker 1 (03:40):
That right there is classic. That is classic. I appreciate
that very much.
Speaker 2 (03:46):

didn't know the day is my birthday, and I'm just

Speaker 1 (03:55):

Speaker 3 (03:58):
We're happy that you get a chance to share another birthday.
It's it's it's a blessing every single day to wake up,
but to go around the world another year is something
that a lot of people take for granted, and I
know for for someone like yourself, I know you don't
take it for granted. So we wanted to wish you
a very very happy birthday. And uh got give a
(04:19):

Makes sure while you're over there on the text messages
and all the things that you do, hit up Mark
and wish him a happy birthday. He's at the Mark
Henry on social media. That's the Mark Henry on social media.
Yesterday it was announced that the Texas Longhorns football schedule.
Speaker 1 (05:20):
That's right.
Speaker 3 (05:20):
We're talking football all the time, especially when you start
to look at some of the times of the ball
games and what the expectation is Texas had it released.
Speaker 1 (05:31):
We knew about Ohio State.
Speaker 3 (05:32):
First game at Ohio State of the year, We'll be
at eleven am on Fox. All these times are going
to be Central time. San Jose State first home game
will be at eleven AM as well. That will be
presented by St. David's Healthcare. September thirteenth the second home game,
(05:55):
and this one is a little bit interesting to me.
They will be playing UTEP at three fifteen in the
afternoon in September. Now, if we were playing up north,
wouldn't be a big deal. It's gonna be a thousand
degrees in September, and they got Texas playing at a three.
Speaker 2 (06:17):
It's gonna be a people barbecue out there, extra chrispy
for most.
Speaker 3 (06:23):
But it's gonna September thirteenth. They will play UTEP on
the SEC network. That game will be at three fifteen September.
The twentieth Texas home final home game for like over
a month is going to be against Sam Houston. That
will be on the Plus networks of ESPN. That will
(06:44):
be at seven pm. Then Texas goes on the road
at Florida October the fourth.
Speaker 1 (06:50):
That is a flex start by the network.
Speaker 3 (06:54):
Okay, a flex start means either it's gonna be two
thirty to three thirty or five to seven. So that game,
I think.
Speaker 1 (07:04):
That game will be a seven o'clock game.
Speaker 3 (07:06):
Because Florida's gonna be good with DJ Lagway, and you
want a primetime game with DJ Lagway against Arch Manning.
By that time, Arch would have already played in four
games and Lagway played a lot last year, so you'll
get a chance to see that. Then the All State
Red Rivalry will be going on against Oklahoma. That game
(07:28):
will be at two thirty. That's already predetermined. We already
knew that at Kentucky will be a night start.
Speaker 1 (07:35):
That will be from five to seven.
Speaker 3 (07:37):
At Mississippi State will be a flex start as well.
Speaker 1 (07:41):
And then Texas last home game.
Speaker 3 (07:45):
Of the beginning of the season will be September the twentieth.
Its next home game will be November the first versus Vanderbilt.
That game, guess what, folks, first game back eleven ams start,
Come on, man.
Speaker 1 (08:01):
Then you go to Georgia. That's a flex starting.
Speaker 3 (08:04):
Back at home, back at home against Arkansas, that will
be a flex start. And then November the twenty eighth,
the showdown with Texas A and M the Cotton Holdings
long start lone start, excuse me, showdown will be at
six thirty, so we will get a night game for
(08:25):
Texas in Texas A and m.
Speaker 2 (08:28):
Man, I'm ready, like I'm already. Listen, let's skip the
summer and just go straight to football.
Speaker 7 (08:34):
Man.
Speaker 1 (08:34):
Yeah, ain't no skipping on somehow here, dog, it's gonna
be ah.
Speaker 2 (08:40):
But with all of the way the weather has been, yes,
like you know that the summer is gonna be just
all the way to ten.
Speaker 1 (08:48):
Yeah, it's gonna be ridiculous. It's gonna be.
Speaker 2 (08:50):
If your air conditioning is not in great standing right now,
I suggest if you take your last dime and go
and get that fixed out. Don't call me like, hey man,
our air condition is broke? Can we come hang out? No, no,
we didn't give you four warning. Make sure that you
(09:12):
get that taken care of.
Speaker 3 (09:13):
But let's looking at these times and the expectations. I mean,
to open the season as a team that a lot
of folks expect big things from. Your first two games
are at eleven am.
Speaker 1 (09:28):
What is your first home game is at eleven am?
I mean, what's truly going on?
Speaker 2 (09:36):
But you know what, I actually enjoyed being here in
Austin and doing those early games because we would get there,
set up, greet people, hang out with the fan base,
and everybody was so excited and then you had the
rest of the day to be in the air conditioning
at home watching all the rest of the games.
Speaker 3 (09:57):
But all them people are not doing what you do.
They are going to be in the game, burning up.
Like Gota said, extra crispy.
Speaker 1 (10:09):
Yet we're playing an eleven eight am game for our
first home game. That don't work.
Speaker 3 (10:19):
And a lot of people are complaining about the actual
home schedule because last year, think about all those games
we had at home last year, those were welcome to
the SEC home games. Well, now you're getting you going
on the road, bro, we helped you out last year.
Speaker 1 (10:40):
This year you're going into the swamp.
Speaker 3 (10:43):
You're going in the Kentucky, You're going into Stark Vegas.
You're going into Georgia where the Bulldog's wrong. You're going
to Ohio State. Yeah, they're not playing around with this
new schedule. So Texas talented as they are, they have
their work cut out for them. But those schedule, it's
(11:08):
gonna be a real interesting twenty five twenty six season.
But guess what, as you said, I can't wait.
Speaker 1 (11:17):
That's right. It's Mark's birthday, folks. Make sure you wish.
Speaker 3 (11:20):
Him a very happy birthday, and of course make sure that.
Speaker 1 (11:25):
You tune in all day long.
Speaker 3 (11:27):
We have Eric Henry of Horns twenty four to seven
and lifetime Longhorn and the Great Earl Campbell will join
us in the second hour.
Speaker 1 (11:37):
You do not want to miss it.
Speaker 3 (11:39):
All right here on a throwback Thursday edition of the
Morning Kickoff on Sports Radio and thirteen hundred The Zone.
The NBA Finals continue to roll on, and as they
continue to roll on, we get to the conversation about sports. Obviously,
the NBA, I mean, the NFL is the most dominant
(12:00):
part of any kind of show.
Speaker 1 (12:02):
I mean they are the show.
Speaker 3 (12:04):
And we'll talk some NFL coming up a little bit later.
But I pose the question on our social media, make
sure you get over to x Twitter at AM thirteen
one hundred The Zone. And the question that was posed
was which championship series would.
Speaker 1 (12:21):
You want to watch?
Speaker 3 (12:24):
The World Series, the NBA Finals or the Stanley Cup Finals. Now,
obviously everybody would always talk about the NFL and trying
to be part of that World Cup, all that kind
of stuff people will be engaged in.
Speaker 1 (12:40):
But I wanted to know which one would you like
to watch?
Speaker 3 (12:44):
And I think we're all in agree in here that
the NBA Finals is something that we would all like
to watch.
Speaker 7 (12:51):
Now.
Speaker 3 (12:51):
Obviously I will watch the World Series because of my background,
I am hardball, so it will be something that I
definitely tune into. But the NBA Finals is something that
we are witnessing that a lot of folks aren't really
truly taken in, Like you're you wanting to see the
(13:13):
big name guys right like. But for us, because we
like the game, we see the storylines that are out there,
We see all the information that that a lot of
people aren't looking at. When we left the show yesterday,
we said the only way, I said, the only way
that Indiana Pacers were going to win this game is
(13:34):
if Tyrese Halliburton comes out and is playing like the
guy that is being aggressive.
Speaker 1 (13:42):
He did that. He did that.
Speaker 3 (13:44):
You said that it was going to be some of
the bench guys that were going to be able to
make an impact.
Speaker 1 (13:51):
That happened too.
Speaker 3 (13:53):
But these are the storylines that we're talking about because
the MVP of the other team of the NBA is
on the other team at okay. See, so last night
Indiana Pacers at home one sixteen, one oh seven over
the OKC Thunder. But there were so many games within
the game that people truly weren't paying attention to. And
(14:18):
it's kind of crazy to me when you start to
think about it. Like the halftime score was sixty to
sixty four Indiana. They were going back and forth the
entire game. Those are the matchups that you.
Speaker 1 (14:33):
Want to see.
Speaker 3 (14:34):
That's the type of basketball that I truly want to see.
I don't have to see Lebron James go out there
and do the things that he does, because he does
them all the time. You want to see guys like
this that are starting to rise up to those moments
of excellence.
Speaker 1 (14:53):
We talked about Tyrese Halliburton.
Speaker 3 (14:56):
He was voted by some mister overrated, but then all
of a sudden, he's knocking down big shots, he's being aggressed,
he's doing all these he's leading his team with assists.
I mean, he's playing the true point guard position.
Speaker 2 (15:09):
Fourteen out of seventeen lave second shots, right, I mean,
he's come on, man, where where do you get that?
Speaker 1 (15:17):
He's clutch?
Speaker 2 (15:19):
And this is something that I heard last night that
just made me go, what the all? Before this game
last night, the Indiana Pacers had only led by a
minute and twelve second yeah, in the two games before
(15:40):
they were behind the entire two games.
Speaker 1 (15:43):
Well, it goes back to game one.
Speaker 3 (15:46):
They didn't take the lead until Haliburton hit the shot.
Speaker 1 (15:49):
At the end of Game one.
Speaker 3 (15:52):
They were never in the lead until the last three
seconds of the ball game. That's crazy when you think
about it. But the first half Tyrese Halibert yesterday was
five of eight, he had seven assists, he had one steal,
a block, but he had two turnovers, so he was
(16:12):
being aggressive. Pascal Siakam five of eight, thirteen points, four rebounds,
two assists, one block. Those are the guys that needed
to show up for them, and those are the guys
that did in the first half. But in the second
half was a different story. Other guys stepped up and
(16:32):
Miles Turner doing what Miles Turner does.
Speaker 1 (16:36):
He was like, uh, chat Hunger, not on my watch.
Speaker 5 (16:41):
Holmgren fakes kicks it out Jaylen Williams off the bounce
back to Huldred Holger. Three quarter o'clock by Turner. Holger
gets your back with four to shoot. Homer down a
laye the runner. Let's go in the other way. Holmer
Purty was foul.
Speaker 1 (16:56):
He just goes out there and makes plays.
Speaker 3 (16:58):
But as we were talking about Halliburton, he always finds
a way to make that big shot to make you
start thinking, uh, oh, we got a chance.
Speaker 1 (17:07):
As rot in the game.
Speaker 5 (17:08):
After fourteenth points off the pench in the first half,
Halliburton steps back and puts it in third pre pointer
for Halliburton up under the time out.
Speaker 1 (17:17):
Pay sirst back up like praise.
Speaker 2 (17:19):
You talked about their bitch too. Yeah, I knew Mattheren
was going to step up. You know, he should have
played in the series last year and he could possibly
could have helped them get over the hump last year.
Speaker 1 (17:31):
And now they're not.
Speaker 2 (17:31):
Making the same mistake that they made before. And Nate
Smith was the guy that was getting most of the
of the reps because at that time after in was
was a little bit deemed up at the end of
the season, so he had to play himself back into
being above Nate Smith. So now you have two guys
(17:54):
in that small forward, big two guard combo guard role
that you can throw out there, and I think this
is gonna change the tide in this in this series.
Speaker 1 (18:05):
But you know, you you talked about Miles Turner.
Speaker 2 (18:07):
Miles Turner almost almost ruined this game twice with setting
illegal screens and uh getting the ball and not giving
a dribble handoff. He just like try to lap haphazardly,
throw the ball to Halliburton and turn the ball over.
And then in the next series Halliburton came down, he
(18:29):
turned the ball over. You gotta be able to take
care of the ball at the end of the Yeah,
you gotta take care of the ball, man, Like that's
that's it's contagious. So if you can avoid even getting
that going, then you have a greater chance to win.
Speaker 1 (18:42):
But they they were able to pull it out. Yep.
Speaker 3 (18:44):
And you start to look at the bench. You talked
about some of those players off of that bench. He
talked about Matthering, but TJ McConnell did as well, played
well also, and so coach Rick Carlisle talked about those
two guys and the energy that they brought.
Speaker 8 (19:01):
Yeah, I mean those guys were were were tremendous and uh,
you know, TJ just brought a will, competitive will to
the game. You know, Matthron jumped in there and and
immediately was aggressive and got the ball in the basket.
And you know, look, this is the kind of team
(19:21):
that we are you know, we need we need everybody
to be ready. It's not always going to be exactly
the same guys that are stepping up with scoring and
stuff like that. But you know, this is this is
how we got to do it, and we got to
do it as a team and and you know we
we got to make it as hard as possible on them.
Speaker 3 (19:42):
Yeah, and that's exactly what they've been able to do.
You talked about the timing of it all and how
they got about it and who they are, and ty
Rese Halliburton talked about how aggressive he was, but he
was always giving love to his teammates.
Speaker 1 (19:57):
Yeah, he's just being aggressive.
Speaker 9 (19:59):
It's not about know, shooting so many shots, trying to
get downhill, trying to get two feet in paint. I
think that's my job as a point guard and then
from there I can figure it out. So just trying to,
you know, make the adjustments that you know, I've been
watching a lot of film over the last couple of
days preparing. You know, his defense is interesting. They got
a lot of guys the point of attack. Uh, they
mix it up, they mix up coverages, all that stuff.
So just trying to make adjustments on the fly. You know,
(20:20):
it's it's basketball. There's epping flows. Not every game is
going to be perfect. I'm gonna have rough games, but
it's all a high response. So and how we respond
to the group.
Speaker 2 (20:28):
And that's exactly how A Burden talks like he dribbles
that dude talk.
Speaker 1 (20:36):
He's adrenaline, this flowing by. Wow. Yeah, I'm like, I'm here, man,
I'm ready.
Speaker 2 (20:42):
Hey, listen, I just saw twos that are behind the
back layup when he was talking.
Speaker 1 (20:47):
Geez, that's a bigger breath. Man. He couldn't, man, he was.
Speaker 3 (20:52):
He was hyped up about the game, and and rightfully
so because for them to come out win that first
game at home, now they have the advantage again.
Speaker 1 (21:01):
But they always say.
Speaker 3 (21:02):
The series doesn't start until the home team loses the game.
They came out, they hell serve the series started in
ok see, within winning game one, they normally would come
out and win game three after their loss. That's just
the tradition, tradition, that's just the way that they have
been flowing this this NBA tournament. But now we start
(21:26):
to look and say, can they do it again? Game
four is Friday night. It will happen shorter window because
they don't have that many days off this time. They
got today off and then they back at it tomorrow
and I can't wait. I can't wait to watch that
matchup once again. Coming up next, we're gonna talk to
(21:46):
our guy, Eric Henry of Hornes two four seven as
he breaks down all things Texas long Horns. We'll talk
about what he's hearing from the forty acres with the
players as they start their workouts. Right here on a
thirsty Thursday, Mark's birthday edition of the Morning Kickoff right
here on sports Radio AM thirteen. Welcome back to the
(22:11):
Morning Kickoff right here on Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (22:13):
AM thirteen hundred of the Zone. It's a throwback Thursday,
thirsty Thursday. It's Thursday, so that means one thing and
one thing only. We get a chance to talk to
our guy, Eric.
Speaker 3 (22:23):
Henry of Horns two four seven. You can follow him
at Eric c Henry Underscore on social media and e
let's get right into a first and foremost.
Speaker 1 (22:34):
Thanks for joining us.
Speaker 3 (22:35):
Secondly, man old man, Texas football is always heating up.
But more importantly, the house settlement came out. What was
your first thoughts when it was finally announced?
Speaker 4 (22:49):
Yeah, as always appreciate you having me on Happy birthday
to Big Mark. Actually you know I'm right behind him.
My birthday is on Sunday, so happy birthday Mark. As
far as the house settlement, hard here's the Ferston that
came to mind, and I'm going to take in a
different direction.
Speaker 1 (23:03):
I know a lot of people.
Speaker 4 (23:05):
Have talked about the scholarship, you know, limits and increases
and I l and things that nature. I want to
take a different directions in your mind. So Steve Stark Eason,
we asked him about this during the spring. If you
know anything about Stark, you know he he liked to
deal with things that are in the here and now right,
so you know, you really want to want to project
into what may have been. But almost he take listening
(23:27):
to this quote, this is what he said. He said
that you can think any of us, including the student athletes,
want to be employees. And obviously when he says us,
he's referring to the student athletes. He says, you know,
student athletes don't want to feel like an employee. They
want to be a student athlete. And you mentioned that,
you know, we don't have a lot of guardrails. We
don't have a lot of regulations. They don't find ways
to get guardrails around this, we're going to lose the
idea of being a student athlete. So now that the
(23:49):
House Settlement is here, let's just try this on be size. Okay,
there's no denying we are much closer with the House
Settlement to student athletes being employees right that, there's just
no way around that. The power dynamic, the power structure
between coach and athlete, that's shrinking little by little by little,
(24:11):
and now it shrinks even more. Right, You're gonna get
to a point where we may have a employee on
a team who makes two million dollars, three million dollars,
and they may make more than their position coach, just
as much as.
Speaker 7 (24:29):
The head coach.
Speaker 4 (24:30):
And guess what, Mark and Hard The days of non
FM Florida, right, the days of Bobby Bowden saying, hey,
you know you broke a rule. I need to go
run those stadium steps to kill you. Put right, those
are the done. The player can turn around and say, no, right,
what I'm getting out of this? And I'm not trying
to be alarmist. I'm not trying to, you know, be hyperbolic,
(24:50):
but we're here, right, we've got to deal with the
here and now. We've already seen coaches like Jay Wright
and Nick David and others say, Hey, you know, this
isn't the college athletic structure that I wanted to get
into coaching. I'm going to step away. What's stopping a
collegiate coach, whether it's basketball, football, wherever to say if
(25:12):
you don't have the guardrails in place, that we're going
to do this, right, But in essence, we have employees
and we're dealing in a pro structure. Why don't I
just go coach pro football where you have all of
this iron God already, or pro basketball where I have
all this iron od already.
Speaker 7 (25:27):
Right.
Speaker 4 (25:27):
So, like I said, taking it from a different angle,
I'm not trying to be alarmed with I'm not saying
Steves Arkis is going to go coach in NFL tomorrow.
But we are here. We can't live in the past,
and it's something we.
Speaker 7 (25:37):
Have to knowledge.
Speaker 1 (25:38):
Man.
Speaker 3 (25:38):
That's kind of crazy when you put it in that
kind of thought process, and I'm sure a lot of
people are thinking just like you. The things have changed
quite a bit, and now they're even moving a lot faster. Well,
let's get into the conversation about Texas football as a whole. Obviously,
Arch Manning is the topic of conversations. I saw some
(26:00):
vid of him working out at two lane or looks good,
looks slim, looks like he's ready to go. But who
are some of the other names that you guys are
hearing on the forty that are making some impressions.
Speaker 1 (26:12):
Yeah, yeah, you know it's twenty.
Speaker 4 (26:13):
I publish a piece earlier this week talking about five
X factors. I'll give you one. Let's start with you know,
a lot of the talk has been about the receiver room,
and you know some of the big recruits, you know,
five star recruits, Jamie French, Khalik Lockett, Steve Startigan is
always short to mention Dylan McCutcheon in that list, and
he's a guy who I think they have a chance,
you know, I in my opinion right now, I think
(26:35):
your top three receivers give her take or gonna be
Ryan Wingo, DeAndre Moore and then Emmett Mosley, and then
you probably have some room for Kalik Lockett to park
the livingstone. But Dalen McCutcheon is a guy to keep
an eye on. A more established name someone was not
an incoming freshman Jeelanie McDonald's really making his push, right,
I mean, it's been a while since you've had someone
who describes their game at the safety of the defensive
(26:57):
back as physical and violent. Right, that's a different dynamic
backer in the secondary. Michael taf You know, it's certainly
you know, can lay the wood in his own right,
a heavy hitter, but mover the nets guy can play
and coverage Manny Mohammad and those guys. I think Julia
McDonald brings that dynamic of being a heavy hitter in
the secondary. And also you know guys like Ty Anthony
Smith and Leungle of Pow. You know, I think it's
(27:19):
the linebacker room. I'm on the record of saying this.
You know, in a two linebacker base defense, which of
course what Texas plays mostly, there are no two linebackers
in the nation I'd rather have than Anthony Hill and
the Ungle of Powell. But when they have to go
three linebacker and it's Tray More or Ty Anthony Smith
or whoever, those three linebackers are going to be excellent.
Speaker 7 (27:39):
We'll do a couple of names.
Speaker 2 (27:40):
Deep Niles, no doubt, listen, take I'm I'm so excited
about hearing about people catching the ball, people running the ball,
people throwing the ball.
Speaker 1 (27:50):
But you know, I'm on size this. I'm I'm I'm
down with the big fellas.
Speaker 9 (27:55):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (27:56):
What offensive lineman uh? And defensive lineman? Do you do
you think will be the star wars the standouts on
that team, as well as who's going to be the
one that's going to be the surprise for us?
Speaker 6 (28:10):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (28:11):
Yeah, you know, I've talked a lot about Trevor Goosby
and some of the guys who are replacing other players.
Also to shout out Cole Hudson, right, I mean someone
who was a starter through freshman making a push, you know,
to possibly.
Speaker 1 (28:22):
A starter at center.
Speaker 4 (28:23):
But let's talk about DJ Campbell for a second, right.
I know he's been a starter for the past two years,
but really coming into his own it's easy to forget
that he was in the same class as Kelvin Banks, who.
Speaker 1 (28:33):
Was actually rated higher.
Speaker 4 (28:35):
Coming out of high school than Kelvin Banks. Right, But sometimes,
you know, it takes guys a little bit longer to
kind of round into their own form. I think he's
really due for a breakout year to where he becomes
that that lineman that can be like a Kelvin Banks
who can head the entire offensive line room. On the
defensive line, definitely want to keep it on Alex January.
Definitely want to keep it on income and incoming transfer
(28:56):
seeing Murad Watson, and then you know, as far as
someone who I think could surprise guys.
Speaker 1 (29:01):
I think Nick Brooks.
Speaker 4 (29:02):
I think there's a lot there for a freshman, you know,
to come in his size, his his you know, athletic ability.
If and again we thought last year when Texas did
have some injuries on the offensive line, if for whatever reason,
you know, a Goosey goes down or a you know,
Brandon Baker goes down, not to remember, let's look at
it from this perspective. It's not like the last few
(29:24):
years where you had veterans on the offensive line than like, okay,
if someone goes down, then you're trying to tap into
that four star, five star recruit this time while you have,
you know, guys who's been around while a lot of inexperience.
So you need to get some of those younger freshmen
up and going just in case you have to depend
on them. So Nick Brooks is a guy keeping eye
on on the offensive line.
Speaker 1 (29:44):
We're gonna let you go with this. We're gonna go
to the diamond.
Speaker 3 (29:46):
Obviously, Texas softball being a national champion, but Texas Baseball
are racking in the awards. Dylan Valantis all American as
is Ryland Galvan. Talk about those guys and what you
thought over the season.
Speaker 4 (30:03):
Yeah, yeah, you know, I mean, I think well deserved
on both their parts, Galvard. I mean I think just
a steady presence back there, you know, behind home plate
barret ketcher, and of course we all know about Dylan
Delantis overalling up. Talked about a little bit, right, We
talked about it last week. Going with you guys, I
still think this was a successful season for Texas. Jim
Slas Nigle year one now with the transfer portal, some
(30:25):
of the moves that are being made, Josh Livingston coming
in from Wichita. They're hosting a couple transfers, most notably
a pair of shortstops. I think that you know, nothing
has been confirmed with with Jalen Floresce excuse me, as
far as what his future may be, but that should
give you maybe a little bit of inkling as to
where Jim Slasnagel.
Speaker 1 (30:43):
And Company may be looking, you.
Speaker 4 (30:46):
Know, getting a incoming shortstop visit coming in from Maryland,
also from Virginia, so keep an eye on those things
as well. Of course I have all the details on
those visits at Horns twenty four to seven dot Com.
Speaker 3 (30:57):
Appreciate you brother as always. Keep grinding, bro keep grinding
because that's all you do.
Speaker 1 (31:03):
Appreciate you, Appreciate it, fellows. Thanks all right.
Speaker 3 (31:06):
Coming up next, we're gonna close out our number one.
The Denver Broncos are making moves and I can't believe
I just said that, Sean Payton. We'll talk about it
when I come back right here on the morning kickoff
on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred Zone.
Speaker 1 (31:24):
Leave Malone special thanks to our guy Eric Henry of
Horns from four seven being able to give us the
latest on all things Texas Longhorns. And right now we're
gonna give you a chance to win a pair of
tickets to go see Alice Cooper and Judas Priest October
to twenty fifth at the Germania Insurance Amphitheater. All you
gotta do is get over there and tap that red
(31:45):
microphone on the new and improved iHeartRadio app. Leave the
keyword bent bent is the keyword today for a chance
to win a pair of tickets to see Alice Cooper
and Judas Priest October to twenty fifth to Germania Insurance Amphitheater.
So the news came out yesterday, and uh, I find
(32:09):
it real hard to talk about the Denver broncos I'm
not a big fan of Sean Payton.
Speaker 3 (32:13):
I mean so much so that Mark Henry was like,
what do he do to you when we went to break?
When we went to break, but look they're making moves
out there. I questioned the move of going to get
bow Knicks, but I forgot bow Knicks was more experienced.
Speaker 1 (32:30):
Than Willie Beamon.
Speaker 3 (32:35):
And the quarterback that was in any given Sunday that
was played by Randy Quay or Dennis Quay, he's been
old and I forgot how old he was gonna be.
Speaker 1 (32:45):
Needless to say that quarterback Bo.
Speaker 3 (32:47):
Knicks came in as a rookie and played very very well,
and then he goes out. Just recently he goes and
Shine signs J K. Dobbins from Lagrange, Shout out La Grange.
Speaker 1 (33:01):
And now this team, with all the talent that they
have is looking really good. There's a lot of Texas
Longhorns on that team. John A. Barren first round pick
by them.
Speaker 3 (33:14):
The moves that they are making has been nothing short
of impressive, and so Sean Payton talked about what they
have done out there and how it started this week,
and we'll hear from one of their reporters.
Speaker 1 (33:28):
Today was a lot of red zone work.
Speaker 10 (33:31):
I liked our energy got a little warm, but I
thought the guy's handled it really well.
Speaker 5 (33:37):
Welcome to Broncos in sixty.
Speaker 1 (33:38):
That was head coach Sean Payton following the first day
of miniicamp.
Speaker 7 (33:41):
After practice.
Speaker 1 (33:42):
Payton also spoke on Evan Ingram and how he sees
him evolving into a joker role. He's smart, he really
works at it.
Speaker 10 (33:50):
I would say the one thing that's hard to grade
on film or how good someone's football instincts are. And
I think he's showing us each day that he's got
a real good savvy for the game.
Speaker 1 (34:02):
Heading into year two with the team, safety Brandon Jones
discussed his mindset and his goals for the upcoming season.
Speaker 7 (34:08):
Everything's coming a lot easier.
Speaker 11 (34:10):
I still treat it like the same like I like
I do when I first got here. Every day just
making sure I'm asking the playbook. I'm just getting overall
fiel of things. Yeah, I think this year my big
goal is just kind of take that leadership role and
be more of a vocal guy for the team.
Speaker 3 (34:28):
So not only are they got they got Jady barn
they got Brandon Jones, they got PJ. Lot, they got
Malcolm Roach, Sam Ellinger, they got all Texas Longhorns on
that squad. And they go out and they get JK. Dobbins,
they got Courtland Sutton. They have Marvin Mimes at wide receiver,
(34:52):
can take the house, take it to the house, excuse me.
Speaker 1 (34:56):
And they have Evan Ingram at tight end. They just
went out and got him.
Speaker 3 (35:03):
Are they able to compete in the AFC West that
has been dominated dominated by the Kansas City Chiefs. Are
they ready to take that next step and compete with
the Las Vegas Raiders, who I think is going to
be vastly improved, and the La Chargers who Jim Harbaugh
(35:30):
and the.
Speaker 1 (35:31):
Fact that Justin Herbert, Justin Herbert, the golden.
Speaker 3 (35:36):
Boy that everybody thinks is going to lead them to
the Promised Land. You start to look at all these
teams in the AFC West, And how are they not
considered the best conference, I mean.
Speaker 2 (35:48):
The best division. You call them justin, I call him Moses.
Well that's what everybody else is calling them. You know what,
I actually think that the Denver Broncos are going to
be that team because they were on the preferences last year.
Of being that team, the running game had to improve,
and apparently they've They've done that. And I know you
(36:12):
don't like him, I don't. I know you don't like him.
I don't, but he's got that's Texas long Horns.
Speaker 1 (36:19):
North its West. It's definitely West. And don't they have
the Jordan Humphrey on that team too. I think he
went to he left.
Speaker 10 (36:30):
But.
Speaker 1 (36:32):
All them longhorns, you gotta you gotta like him, even
if I don't like the leadership group I don't like.
I don't like the leader on the sideline. I just
I like the fact that those horns are on there
and I respect them. But dog got it, I don't
need him to be that good. They're gonna have a
too many Bronco fans.
Speaker 2 (36:54):
Oh man, oh my goodness, great salivating right now, right now.
Speaker 1 (36:58):
I'm I'm I'm with you. I've just changed my mind.
Speaker 7 (37:03):
Hang it.
Speaker 3 (37:04):
We can't have him gloating no, because he will definitely
get fired up. Because think about it. I'm serious when
I say this, Are they catching up to what Kansas
City has been able to do?
Speaker 7 (37:17):
Well?
Speaker 2 (37:17):
You look at what they did, what they brought in,
and they're trying to defense right what Kansas City is
doing right.
Speaker 3 (37:24):
And then you think think about the Chargers, think about
what they have done. Their roster is getting thick, and
they're making moves. They brought back Mike Williams, they have
I don't know what Quinn Johnson donn't do. But you
got Lad McConkie at wide receiver. He was amazing, amazing,
he was amazing. You went out and drafted big Ol'
(37:45):
Amarion Hampton at the running back position, very physical from
North Carolina.
Speaker 1 (37:51):
You brought in Nase Harris.
Speaker 3 (37:53):
And then on the defensive side, you made a bunch
of moves as well to get better.
Speaker 1 (37:58):
Oh oh yeah, the old.
Speaker 3 (37:59):
Man Cuill Mack is still out there bringing pain.
Speaker 1 (38:03):
The light is running back is two hundred and seventeen pounds.
I'm just That's what I'm saying, Like.
Speaker 2 (38:12):
Running through thirty three, that's that's a lot of men
in that back fill over and over and over and over.
Speaker 1 (38:20):
I get it, man.
Speaker 3 (38:22):
The only thing I don't like about what the Chargers
have done they got dj Ukulele.
Speaker 1 (38:27):
On there and that may not work. He fourth on
the chart. They brought in Trey Lynx. They in trouble.
So you're saying there's a cheese. It's with Trey Lyns.
Speaker 3 (38:38):
Our number one is in the books. Our number two
is just around the corner. We'll talk some more NFL.
Speaker 1 (38:44):
We've got Earl Campbell at eight seventeen. Tighten up. Folks
were rolling that blue right here.
Speaker 3 (38:51):
On the morning Kickoff on sports Radio and thirteen hundred
The Zong. Welcome back to our number two of the
morning kickoff right here on sports Radio AM thirteen hundred
The Zone and our number one. We talked about the
Texas football schedule and how the game times are shaping out.
Speaker 1 (39:10):
We also talked about the Indiana.
Speaker 3 (39:13):
Pacers big win at home one sixteen one oh seven
over the OKC Thunder. They will play game four on Friday,
and Okase has to show up to get a chance
to push this thing a little bit farther. Also, we
talked to our guy, Eric Henry of Hornes two four
seven and just finished out about the Denver Broncos. But
(39:37):
we also want to make sure that you understand that
coming up in the next segment, Legends of the Locker
Room segment at eight seventeen, we will have Lifetime Longhorn
and Love You Blue Hall of Famer d Earl Campbell
joining us to talk about all things that he has
going on.
Speaker 1 (39:56):
You do not want to miss that.
Speaker 3 (39:59):
Also is Mark Henry's birthday, people, that's right, get over
there and wish him a happy birthday, and go over
to at the Mark Henry on his social media and
wish him a happy birthday.
Speaker 1 (40:13):
I want to give you a birthday present right now.
Speaker 7 (40:15):
Mark.
Speaker 3 (40:17):
The Cowboys announced that they will have a documentary on
Netflix that will come out August the nineteenth, Netphilix.
Speaker 1 (40:28):
It's a sports series.
Speaker 3 (40:29):
It's called America's Team, The Gambler and His Cowboys, The
Cowboys you know and the Truth?
Speaker 1 (40:37):
You don't. How long are you watching that? Boy?
Speaker 7 (40:41):
You know?
Speaker 1 (40:41):
I'm gonna watch it.
Speaker 4 (40:42):
You go.
Speaker 1 (40:43):
Watch it. Yeah, I'm gonna watch every episode.
Speaker 2 (40:47):
And and I'm hoping that it's not something that's gonna
make me just go Why am I a Cowboy fan?
Speaker 1 (40:54):
Because anytime you hear what it said. Read the title again?
Speaker 3 (40:58):
Is that the Gambler and the Cowboys and his Cowboys?
I know which party talked about the Gambler. Why wouldn't
he put himself second to the team. Well he did,
it says the title of it is America's team, the
Gambler and his Cowboys.
Speaker 2 (41:20):
Saying it like that, don't make it no motter. You're
exciting to ride. It's called gasoline on the fire.
Speaker 1 (41:28):
It will be.
Speaker 3 (41:28):
It will premiere August the nineteenth. It's the Cowboys, you know,
and the truth you don't.
Speaker 1 (41:36):
I've been waiting on this. Thank you, But let me
ask you this, why why now? Why is this?
Speaker 2 (41:45):
Why wasn't it Why didn't it come out about the start?
He wants to drum up buzz yeah.
Speaker 3 (41:52):
Somebody said bet GM, I mean bet MGM on social
media said this doc is the only way Cowboys fans
will watch championships.
Speaker 1 (42:03):
This center. Oh my goodness, gracious, I'm here, so we will.
Speaker 3 (42:11):
See exactly how he does business, how he's made this happen.
But some of the decisions that were being made as well,
like there's some things that needed to be cleared up
that he continues to do wrong. Why is it that
Michael Parsons is still in camp, not with his contract
being signed.
Speaker 1 (42:31):
Why have you not filed the extension? Why have you
not paid the man? What?
Speaker 5 (42:35):
You know?
Speaker 1 (42:36):
He's young, he's young, You get ahead of this. So,
but how can you question his business? Acraman.
Speaker 3 (42:44):
He's been able to do this for a long time,
and he finds a way to get his guys paid.
I think he's just sitting there saying, how many more
days do we have of interest on that money that's
already sitting there in the bank.
Speaker 1 (42:58):
Yeah, so we can just gone and cycle that money over,
you know, exactly. So it's not really a stem, it don't.
I don't like my banking account looking below this number.
So let's wait a little bit.
Speaker 2 (43:12):
Listen, man, when you're in a double digit billion exactly,
Peter may never ever think about how much something costs.
Speaker 1 (43:20):
But that is why he is who he is, and
that is why this is the way that it's going down.
Speaker 2 (43:25):
You can't give me a billion dollars, I'll be under
five hundred million in about two weeks.
Speaker 1 (43:31):
Hey at least you like? Hey, Mark, come on, man,
why are you unicorn? How How long I wanted a unicorn? Son,
it costs twelve million dollars. You know I had to
do it. I wanted you wanted it, Son, I love it.
I love it. But let's get back to football because
(43:55):
we makes it for comedies.
Speaker 3 (43:58):
Jake Jake Ferguson on his offensive line and how important
and the improvements that he's seen, because remember the Cowboys
have continued to build on that offensive line and may
be making this documentary. Jerry went back to the fundamental
foundation of why your teams were good. You had to
(44:18):
build that wall up front, on that offensive line, and
Jake Ferguson is talking about that old line.
Speaker 1 (44:25):
Do a lot of collaboration with the offensive line obviously,
know what you say.
Speaker 12 (44:29):
From this young, rebuilt off line. Yeah, it's I'm really excited.
I was in two days ago doing the max bench test.
I'm freaking like a bunch of our new guys were
just throwing way and out come. I don't even think
I can unrack us from the bar. But I mean,
we got a bunch of big, strong, smart dudes, And
(44:50):
like I said earlier, I mean you can.
Speaker 7 (44:52):
You can try to stop the past, but you're also
gonna have to try to stop their own.
Speaker 1 (44:55):
So they're gonna be tough. Man. Hey, they're gonna be tough.
You were excited too much. I was mad. I was mad.
Speaker 2 (45:04):
You said something to me, you said, come on, man,
you need to temple your expectations about this guy. He
was the first year guy, and I was really hard
on Tyler Goydon. And the reason is because of all
the penalties hard and he talked about big, big, strong,
smart guys.
Speaker 1 (45:22):
It's not smart, and he's got to be smarter. He's
got to know that he's got a.
Speaker 2 (45:28):
Guy that likes the outside Russian and turn that guy
inside and all of the things that relate to that.
But the good thing that I'm telling you right now
is Tyler Giton last year.
Speaker 1 (45:42):
Was three or eight.
Speaker 2 (45:44):
He's a tall basketball player looking dude. He's gained seventeen pounds,
and that don't sound like a lot, because you know
people that hear weight, they think don'nut weight. You know,
like I'm over here eating doughnuts. I got these these
Earl Campbell's uh colacchis. But he's gained that in muscle
(46:09):
and that's going to equate to him being a stronger,
more adapt run blocker, which he already was a pretty
good run blocker.
Speaker 1 (46:17):
Just the passing was the problem.
Speaker 2 (46:20):
If he can improve his you know, stability and not
let guys power, restum outside and turn guys inside to Booker, listen,
man like, they could be the offensive line that the
Cowboys used to have. Yeah, I mean, that's what I'm saying.
Speaker 3 (46:35):
Looking at this documentary, maybe Jerry went back and said, Hey,
when we were really good, we had a running back
in the Miss Smith who became the all time leading rustler.
That's how far back were going with. I'm with you, MGM,
I'm with you better than Gym. But you start to
look at how this team has been developed in every year.
(46:56):
The offensive line is probably the safest pick that you're
gonna get because they find a guy to fill avoid
that is going to be stable.
Speaker 1 (47:06):
I saw a.
Speaker 3 (47:07):
Report yesterday or two days ago that Connor bebe brand
new center. He's used to playing on the offensive line
and being a guard. Connor bb is now the center,
and he had the lowest pressure rates of anybody two
point nine percent when people came.
Speaker 1 (47:25):
Through his gap. Two point nine that's outstanding.
Speaker 3 (47:31):
Now you bring in a road grader like Booker, who
all he wants to do is get filled and the
same thing with Tyler Smith. He's the same way now,
if you could get still and guiding to to step
their game up.
Speaker 2 (47:48):
When I pray at night, I don't. I don't pray
for the national deficit to be solved. I don't pray
hard for rain. I know a lot of people here
in Ailson. They won't lake Aston to fill up. I
prayed at the Cowboys tackles are better than they was
(48:10):
the year before.
Speaker 1 (48:12):
I cannot deal with it. That's all I want. Can
Io tackles be better?
Speaker 7 (48:17):
Well?
Speaker 1 (48:17):
I honestly I believe that they will be better.
Speaker 3 (48:20):
And I think now because of the fact of Schottenheimer
being the coach, the way he goes about it, he's
gonna take pressure off of them by running the football.
You have to be able to run the football because
Dak's best years is.
Speaker 1 (48:38):
When they have an actual running game and they can
work off a.
Speaker 2 (48:41):
Play action right. He's a play action quarter He's a
play action quarterback. And if you Ferguson block.
Speaker 3 (48:48):
Well and get into the gaps and be able to
get open, they can have success. And I know I'm
sitting here sounding like I got them going to the
NFC Championship.
Speaker 1 (48:59):
I don't. I just don't want them to go.
Speaker 3 (49:03):
Out every single week and not play at an elite
level as we expected them to.
Speaker 1 (49:10):
Look at them to lose, I look at them to win.
Speaker 2 (49:12):
Right, So if the Cowboys win ten games, they go
to the playoffs and they win a series, that's a
successful season.
Speaker 3 (49:18):
Absolutely, I think it's more than a successful season. We
now we're cooking with grease. You know what I'm saying.
Speaker 1 (49:25):
We're not using Uh, I can't believe it's not butter.
Speaker 2 (49:29):
Okay, we're using That's coming from a guy who has
never been in the kitchen.
Speaker 1 (49:35):
Now, that's a lie. That's a lot I ain't say
to eat. Of course, you win in the kitchen.
Speaker 3 (49:40):
That ate something coming up next, we're gonna talk about
eating with the Man, the myth, the legend. D Earl
Campbell joins us next right here on the Morning Kickoff
on sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone.
Speaker 1 (50:04):
Let's just sit the let's.
Speaker 3 (50:11):
Welcome back to the morning kickoff right here on Sports
Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone. And you know, the
Legends of the locker Room segment just picked up even
more so when you have lifetime Longhorn, Legend, Heisman Trophy winner,
Hall of Famer and just an all around good dude.
(50:34):
You have mister Earl Campbell joining us in our Legends
of the Locker Room segment.
Speaker 1 (50:40):
Good morning, how are you doing today?
Speaker 13 (50:42):
Hey, good morning Martin. That is from real man. What's
happening you've been doing?
Speaker 7 (50:48):
Man?
Speaker 1 (50:48):
I've been doing great.
Speaker 5 (50:49):
Man.
Speaker 2 (50:49):
I'm just letting you know that me and Mike Hard
we've been doing this show together now over a year
and we've been great. You know what I tell my son,
I say, you know, I remember Mark was up on
seventy one when this thing first started. I was in
the city with you.
Speaker 7 (51:05):
Remember that.
Speaker 1 (51:06):
I remember, I remember. And now the guy that was
in the other station, he and I a partners.
Speaker 7 (51:13):
Oh that's great man.
Speaker 1 (51:15):
Yeah, it's exciting, exciting, exciting times. And I appreciate you
hopping on with us. And you got some things that
you have going on.
Speaker 3 (51:24):
You got your new Earl Campbell signature collection of handbags
that are going out.
Speaker 1 (51:31):
So tell us a little bit about that.
Speaker 13 (51:34):
Well, I think if it had to all be said
and said, right, you know, the legendary down a Lowe
who pay quarterback at UT introduced me many years ago
to these Kellys and the Kelly's are on something called
the Shoe Hospital in Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, and Austin.
(51:54):
So that's how I originally got up with the Kellys.
So we've maintained friends over the years and just summoning around.
We all just got the three of us got to
talking and we decided that we would come up with
this luggage called Earl Campbell at Toats and you can
pick them up at on Instagram. You can find out
(52:17):
anything you want to know about from Kelly Toats. So
it's something that we're just starting, but we're hoping to
come out with many different bags and stuff.
Speaker 7 (52:29):
Over the future.
Speaker 13 (52:30):
And we came out with this one just in Father's
Day just to yeah I would do. So we think
it's something's gonna be great. And Deluks, we're real good
friends with those people. So we're gonna be launching it
in they stores and all in the future.
Speaker 2 (52:46):
Well, we're gonna We're gonna definitely post some photos on
our site and on our social media is about the product. Uh,
mister earle Is, I would be remiss without saying you
know how it is getting. It's getting that time for
that summer football. Oh yeah, like, how you feeling about
our lawhorns? Well, man, I feel real good. I think
(53:08):
I coach over at.
Speaker 13 (53:09):
The University is doing. It's amazing because I haven't played
football over there in years, but I've been associated with
the university since nineteen seventy four when I came here,
and the Darren Royots and Fred Akers and.
Speaker 7 (53:26):
Mac Brown and this coach over there.
Speaker 13 (53:29):
Now, it just seems that they're doing the same thing
back when they did in ninety seventy four, because he's
turning on kids now only just great athletes, but he's
teaching them how to be respectful and how to handle
themselves as athletes, you know, which I think is something great.
Speaker 2 (53:46):
I think it's awesome. Steve Sykesian is one of those
guys that wears his heart on his shoulder and on
his sleeve. Oh yeah, these young guys. He says, it's
great to be a great player, but it's even better
when you're a great human.
Speaker 1 (54:01):
And I love to think.
Speaker 13 (54:04):
I think Chuck Keys and the anthelete director and all
those people that do a great job with people like
Ricky William, Vince Young and my two brothers and of
course myself and letting us feel like we want you
all to be a part of this universe as well.
So by Chuck Keason bringing the older guys back around,
(54:25):
I think they have said a lot.
Speaker 1 (54:27):
We are talking to lifetime long on and Hall of
Famer mister Earl Campbell. You've seen his statue.
Speaker 3 (54:34):
You probably took a picture in front of his statue
at some point in your life. And mister Campbell, we
were talking about this a little bit earlier. By the way,
today is your guy Mark Henry's birthday, and I brought him.
Speaker 7 (54:46):
In birthday, man.
Speaker 3 (54:48):
I brought him in the big earl. I brought him
in the big earl for his birthday.
Speaker 7 (54:52):
Yeah, you want the big earl. Some ship leaves you
think you that?
Speaker 2 (54:57):
Yes, sir, I know you went to ship ze this morning,
pick it up and brought me some big EURLs.
Speaker 1 (55:03):
Man, I appreciate that. I appreciate that.
Speaker 7 (55:05):
I might tell them every now and the too.
Speaker 1 (55:09):
Man, you've been I say that too loud. You don't
want your wife getting on you. Seeing my circle is
kind of like this.
Speaker 13 (55:16):
Of course it's Earl, but it's a guy named Sherman.
He takes cooking in and we traveled all together on
the road and then that's my two boys. Toddler look
after the sausage business that we're part of, and Christian
he just kind of look over everything, so like coming
out with this bag with the shoe hospital and h
(55:38):
Kelly Brothers. Christian looked over all the paperwork and stuff.
So we all work as a team. And just the
other day, man, we stopped the Shipley gets something.
Speaker 7 (55:47):
Those big girls.
Speaker 2 (55:51):
Got a love y'all driving around and look it's morning time.
Go stop at the Shipley's and get you some big
earls because uh, and I got the Halopeeno chiefs.
Speaker 1 (56:02):
Lord, Yeah, yeah, you.
Speaker 7 (56:04):
Sure got one.
Speaker 6 (56:05):
You sit up cheese you right, yeah, you know, got
the holygoge business man that does a tremendous Thank God,
that's that little company does some great things that that.
Speaker 7 (56:19):
Of course, we got the truck over our poet.
Speaker 13 (56:22):
We've been in business out there for about twenty seven
years doing tacover.
Speaker 7 (56:26):
So we we all make a good team. We keep
it in the family, and we all kind of work.
Speaker 13 (56:31):
Together and it's no ego involved, even though they know
who it's all about. Sherman got his problem, Christy got
his side, Towler got his problem, and Miss Cambra just
look over all of us, mister Earl, your gout Jacob,
who you've all you basically adopted.
Speaker 1 (56:49):
Yeah, man, I know, I know he's playing for the Sooners.
Speaker 2 (56:52):
But uh, he's definitely one of those that always like, hey,
let's let's stop and get some big girls like that.
I got right there might be a good candidate for
some men. I m with, Uh, I'm doing the pitch.
Speaker 7 (57:07):
You see him about going to Oklahoma. I want to
tell you that.
Speaker 13 (57:11):
Of course, you know how bad and how good that
Oklahoma game is once a year in Dallas. I tell
everybody that, men, this guy got a great relationship. We
don't see each other very much, but we talk a lot.
And his name is Barry Switzer. Coach Switzer at the
beginning of college football, he talk about Earl Campbell at
(57:33):
the middle he talked about it, and then and the Bulls.
He swears that Earl Campbell had no businesses going to college.
Speaker 7 (57:40):
He should walk out right off high school.
Speaker 13 (57:45):
And bar he with with good friends and here on
the flick side he'd be throwing it in there.
Speaker 7 (57:50):
He said, I don't know how Texas got you a boy.
We did everything me and Baron Barrys switch is unbelievable.
Speaker 1 (57:59):
God. And aren't you good friends too with Billy Simms.
I know that Billy Simms comes down here and spend
some time with y'all. See, and y'all have some lunch.
Is he doing sausage as well?
Speaker 7 (58:11):
Well?
Speaker 13 (58:11):
Billy Sims got a Billy Sims Barbecue, which I guess
he started in Oklahoma.
Speaker 7 (58:17):
And he goes up to Detroit. He got about fifteen
to twenty of them.
Speaker 13 (58:21):
Tyler and this guy got together and we put Billy
er camera sausage in Betty's restaurants.
Speaker 2 (58:29):
Wow, that's awesome. See, it's true Texas And oh you
can work together.
Speaker 7 (58:36):
Oh yeah, yeah, but you don't. We do talk about it.
And you can kind of tell when Billy don't want to.
Speaker 13 (58:45):
Talk about it, because yeah, yeah, yeah, y'all have been
getting these past years.
Speaker 7 (58:49):
He got us a three years too, So it's good.
Bill is good too. It's good for the University of Oklaholma.
Speaker 13 (58:56):
We Misster Campbell, I'm just interested. Garry Switzer, we'll still friends.
And even though he recruited me hard man, he always
talked about that.
Speaker 7 (59:08):
Eric Campbell and college football, he's great.
Speaker 1 (59:11):
Well, mister Campbell, it's been great having you on.
Speaker 2 (59:13):
We're gonna post uh the all about the bags and
about if y'all make a man person, you know, maybe
I can get hard ones.
Speaker 7 (59:23):
Come out with more lovely jover in the future.
Speaker 13 (59:26):
We just came out with this right around Father's Day,
just kind of introducing the people and with the Shoe
Hospills and that Kelly family is more than just a
relationship about bags. It's a relationship that just really started
and we're all three of good friends that As a
matter of fact, I went to a summer down in
(59:47):
Miami with.
Speaker 7 (59:48):
The Hosmotrophy people.
Speaker 13 (59:50):
Every year we have a little summit where we get
together and disgusting Tony Dors that is sitting by me
at to pull me in and my talking and Kelly
called me and it's the bags man. I'm we come
up with her camera to the door, say bag. So
that's a myot of things that can go on with
that luggage, with trying to come out with but U,
(01:00:11):
the Shoe Hospels and Kelly family and myself, we want
to do the right thing towards people. It's a nice
little bag if you're going for a couple of days,
you know. But in Freuture we're praying to come out
with more for man as well as whomen. We're gonna
get ours.
Speaker 1 (01:00:28):
We're gonna get our Thank you so much for coming on.
Speaker 2 (01:00:31):
Uh, we don't want this to be the last time.
We gotta have you all see that start.
Speaker 7 (01:00:36):
That's my son.
Speaker 13 (01:00:37):
We Mabo came in the studio, but time I had
to go down to the factory and do something in
the business. But let's stay and cutch like we do,
and let's do something. I come in the studio one
day and we just sit and shoot the breeze.
Speaker 3 (01:00:50):
Yeah, sir, we will definitely do that. He only made
thirty autograph bags. That's right, only thirty of them, and
we'll make sure to get that out.
Speaker 1 (01:00:58):
You can go to w w W.
Speaker 3 (01:01:00):
Dot d Tyler Rose dot com and you can go
to www dot Kelly Took dot com.
Speaker 1 (01:01:08):
So make sure to get over there. Thanks mister Campbell.
Speaker 7 (01:01:12):
Yeah, thank you, and Jay your partner right now to you,
Thank you too.
Speaker 1 (01:01:16):
I will do that. I appreciate it. Thank you man.
Thanks you all. Right there he is the legend, Earl
Campbell doing what he do and making it come strength
to you. Coming up next, we've got the birthday, but.
Speaker 3 (01:01:31):
Bringing you his World's Strongest Take right here on the
morning kickoff on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zon,
Mark Henny and Mike Horn. What a great interview with
(01:01:52):
the legendary lifetime Longhorn and Hall of Famer the Earl Campbell.
Speaker 1 (01:01:57):
And right now we're about to flip it two w
W hall.
Speaker 3 (01:02:02):
Of Famer and the World's Strongest Man all of his
birthday d Mark Henry bringing you his World's Strongest take.
Speaker 1 (01:02:10):
Take it away, big fella Art, what's up man?
Speaker 7 (01:02:13):
You know what time it is?
Speaker 1 (01:02:14):
What time is it? It's time.
Speaker 2 (01:02:18):
For the World's Strongest Take by the World's Strongest Man.
Speaker 1 (01:02:24):
Podcast. Back then they didn't know me. Now I'm hot,
they all o me. Guys.
Speaker 2 (01:02:32):
It was so good having mister Campbell long and I
think at one point, Harge, he thought that you were
me and I was you. But it's okay because he
knew that we existed. Earl Campbell knows that we live.
Speaker 7 (01:02:52):
Wow.
Speaker 1 (01:02:54):
My favorite man, my favorite back of all time. If
you go on thirteen hundred ZON, you'll see a photo
or video that I posted of Earl.
Speaker 2 (01:03:08):
When I think of Earl Campbell, that is exactly how
I see him and how I will always see him.
Speaker 1 (01:03:15):
Well, let me give you my.
Speaker 2 (01:03:17):
Take, guys, Kevin Durant, he is definitely on the trade block.
He will be traded this season. It's come down to
five teams, the Houston Rockets, the San Antonio Spurs, the
Miami Heat, the New York Knicks, and the Minnesota Timberwolves.
(01:03:43):
They said the easiest two teams will be San Antonio
in Minnesota because of cap space and the fact that
they have a lot of pieces. The trade and the
works very easily. So look at those two teams as
(01:04:05):
in their both playoff teams.
Speaker 1 (01:04:07):
They they're both teams.
Speaker 2 (01:04:09):
I think that the Spurs would be a playoff team
next year because of development as well as the fact
that without injury.
Speaker 1 (01:04:17):
They would have made the playoffs this year.
Speaker 2 (01:04:20):
And you added Kevin Durant to that, and that's that's
getting the long run. Two seven foot guys that can
move and shoot from the perimeter that you have a
matchup problem with. I'm here for it all day, not
to mention I like the Spurs, But a team that's
(01:04:41):
made a big push about getting Kevin Durant or Giannis
Antetokumpo is the New York Knicks. They want one of them.
And it's gonna be hard. The hardest way to do
it with is with New York because of the money
has to match and anybody that deals with the salary cap.
(01:05:05):
Kevin durant issue is the fact that his contract that
he originally signed.
Speaker 1 (01:05:12):
Is coming to an end.
Speaker 2 (01:05:14):
And that contract was one hundred and ninety eight million
that he had with Brooklyn that got traded to him
in Phoenix, and now he's on the last year of
that deal in which.
Speaker 1 (01:05:26):
Kevin's made this commitment.
Speaker 2 (01:05:27):
He said, listen, I'll sign a two year deal for
one hundred and twelve million, one hundred and ten million
with whoever he's traded to, so you're guaranteed to get
two seasons out of him. And I think that team
is going to be the Spurs. And that's my take
(01:05:50):
is that the best situation would be the Spurs. I
think that him going to Minnesota with Anthony Edwards might
it might be a little combustible with Anthony.
Speaker 1 (01:06:06):
Wanting to be the guy.
Speaker 2 (01:06:07):
He want to be the number one guy, and if
Kevin goes to that team, Kevin automatically is going to
go to being your number one scorer. And I just
don't think that Houston will trade away Green and all
of those draft picks they're going to have to put
and they need another third team man to give all
(01:06:30):
the parties what they need. My opinion hard, out of
these five, san Antonio is the best option.
Speaker 1 (01:06:38):
What say you?
Speaker 3 (01:06:39):
It seems like a lot of people want the San
Antonio option. We were having dinner last night and that
was part of our conversation was do you think that
it'll be good for Kevin Durant to be in San Antonio?
Obviously the answer is yes, But I don't know if
he is going to be the number one scorer. And
the reason why I say that is yes, most talented
(01:07:01):
can still score, can still be a feature. But he's
thirty seven, almost thirty eight years old. Now, he's the
slim reaper still. But I don't think that he cares
if he's the leading scorer. I don't think that he
cares if he gets the most shot. I know that
he's a walking bucket if you need one, But I
(01:07:23):
don't think he's at a point in his career now
where he don't have to be that guy.
Speaker 2 (01:07:29):
The two teams that he would go that he should
go play for, he needs that. Alten is scorer on
that team. With the Spurs, they have Wemby and.
Speaker 3 (01:07:38):
I think Wemby's the feature, right, and I think kd
will be the other option because.
Speaker 1 (01:07:45):
You got to run. You can't have a seven to
eleven right right.
Speaker 3 (01:07:52):
As our guy Andrew Zimmel said yesterday, he called him
the slim Towers instead of the twin Towers and Antonio.
Speaker 1 (01:08:01):
But you start to.
Speaker 3 (01:08:02):
Look at where they are, and yes, I would love
for Kadi to be in San Antonio.
Speaker 1 (01:08:08):
I think he would love to be in.
Speaker 2 (01:08:09):
Sant You get rid of Rudy Gobert and you bring
in Kevin Durant and Anthony Edwards and now you have
you have to defend Anthony Everwards one on one most
of the time.
Speaker 1 (01:08:22):
But who's going to stop the paint. That's the thing.
Speaker 2 (01:08:25):
They're going to have to go and get somebody else.
But but Rudy Gobert's money, the whole money is. I'm
saying that the money has to match. And that's that's
the thing with the NBA, as opposed to other leagues.
You can pay the luxury tax and not have an issue.
But in the NBA, if you pay the luxury and
(01:08:48):
you're over the cap and you have to pay that
extra money. The salaries have to match.
Speaker 1 (01:08:52):
As somebody as a huge Kevin Durant fan and go
to San Antonio. There's no realon. There's plenty of money.
Speaker 3 (01:09:00):
Yeah, you've made plenty of money, and you go play
and teach some of these other players how to get
to that next level.
Speaker 1 (01:09:06):
And them two being together.
Speaker 3 (01:09:08):
And Kevin Dibrade, Yeah, go handle your business man. But again,
you can't mess up the money for the older people too.
I mean them guys gotta make their money. Then go
ahead and do the one twelve. Yeah, do what you
gotta do and then make it work. Great take by
the world's strongest man. All hit birthday folks. When we
come back, we'll continue the conversation. Send you to Dan Patrick.
(01:09:32):
The Houston Texans are still making moves and let me
just tell you this is a big one right here
on the morning kickoff on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundreds.
Speaker 1 (01:09:44):
What a great, great show we had today.
Speaker 3 (01:09:47):
Shout out to Eric Henry of Horns two four seven
and of course lifetime long on legend great Tyler Rose
Earl Campbell joined the show today as well, so so
special to talk to him. We've already got a bunch
of comments talking about how funny he was and shout
(01:10:09):
out to those that got a change.
Speaker 1 (01:10:10):
And I got a shout out.
Speaker 3 (01:10:11):
But if you did not get a chance to listen,
make sure you get over to our podcast page.
Speaker 1 (01:10:16):
Marcus will have that up in just a moment. Get
over the iHeart our radio app. iHeartRadio app. Tap in
that red microphone, leave a message, Leave a birthday shout
out for the legendary Longhorn, or not Longhorn, but the
world's strongest man. Birthday boy Mark Henry. What you said.
Speaker 2 (01:10:36):
I got a couple of shout outs, right, I got
a shout out advantage storagemplates dot com, Momfoods, and I
got a shout out my girl, Jazzi's argest daughter. Look
when she she got me a TUTSI roll for my birthday.
Thank you so much, Jazzy, You're the best hearge of
(01:10:58):
all time.
Speaker 1 (01:11:01):
Yeah, okay, I feel yeah, No, I'm not jealous of
I'm so glad that she finds a way to your
heart because she is mean to others.
Speaker 3 (01:11:13):
So you must have done something good. So she got
you some candy, So you did good. I wanted to
talk about this because the Houston Texans have made a move.
We talked about the Nick Chubb move, but yesterday Nick
Chubb got a chance to talk about c J.
Speaker 1 (01:11:30):
Stroud and what he sees in CJ. Stroud player.
Speaker 14 (01:11:35):
You know, I went to Georgia Son in that game
when they played OS versus Georgia, I was, I was.
I was afraid, you know, because he was he was
torching them. And yeah, he's a great player. I was
on the Browns two years ago in the playoff game.
We came here and torched us again. So I see
what you see what he's about. He's a great leader.
I met dont came up to me, talked to exchange
numbers and thing I need.
Speaker 1 (01:11:54):
He told me to let him know. So he's a
great leader too.
Speaker 3 (01:11:57):
Talking about and that's a good thing when you find
out that you got that type of respect across the
league from those types of players. Those are the things
that we continue to talk about as far as leadership.
Can CJ. Stroud take that next step. You believe they
filled in a lot of their voids to protect him
(01:12:18):
to be able to get there. They went out and
made moves they could take a lot of pressure off
of him with the quarterback position.
Speaker 1 (01:12:26):
I mean with that offensive line that they have right now.
Speaker 2 (01:12:30):
You know I'm sitting here thinking, man, they also picked
up a guy that's an elite blocker at running back. Yeah,
and you know if you have him in the backfield,
you always have an extra blocker. So I think that
that's going to give CJ. Stroud even more time to
be able to get routes that are long down the field,
(01:12:51):
which that's their thing. They want to hit people in
these long routes with these quick wide receivers.
Speaker 1 (01:12:57):
Yep. And another place in Pittsburgh, obviously Aaron Rodgers is there,
and Arthur Smith, that the offensive coordinator former head coach
of the Atlanta Falcons, spoke about we didn't just bring
him in to run the football obviously as your bosster
of balls.
Speaker 11 (01:13:18):
And you want to see you bring the Aaron in here.
Speaker 1 (01:13:20):
And signed d K for all that money to go
run the wishbone. So you you try to play the
straights of your team.
Speaker 5 (01:13:28):
That ain't.
Speaker 1 (01:13:28):
Nobody was gonna run the wishbone anyway.
Speaker 2 (01:13:31):
Will was the last time you saw an NFL team
line up and run the bones?
Speaker 1 (01:13:36):
Yep?
Speaker 7 (01:13:37):
Do you care?
Speaker 1 (01:13:37):
What's so ignorant?
Speaker 2 (01:13:38):
That's what I'm saying, like, what are you saying, bro,
Like so you you just grabbed the microphone and said
that that's like, hey, hey, y'all want to go to Mars.
Speaker 1 (01:13:47):
Yeah, he was sitting on that one. Now he was, Oh,
he was waiting on that. It was I gonna hope
somebody asked me something about Aaron Rodgers and act like
we're gonna throw the ball the entire time. I mean,
the whole thing that I think about on this, this
move to Pittsburgh is he is playing for an organization
(01:14:10):
that is in desperate need. He is he is in
desperate need himself. I believe that Aaron Rodgers looks at
this moment as his walk away. He said that the
only this was the only team that he wanted to
play for, and if he didn't play for Pittsburgh, he
(01:14:31):
was gonna retire. How true do you think that is?
Speaker 3 (01:14:35):
Because the story is kept saying he wanted to go
play for Minnesota and I said a long time ago,
this story could end badly, or it could be one
of the greatest stories in football this year. If he
can go to Pittsburgh and play well and get Mike
(01:14:55):
Tomlin to the promised land On this mercenary deal. This
could be one of the greatest stories in the NFL,
and he could walk away, and he would walk away
from the game by dropping the microphone. I think because
of the way that things have gone, it's gonna be
(01:15:16):
more like the Brett Favre situation where Brett went off,
tried to play, had a few good seasons, a good
season in Minnesota, and then it just went away.
Speaker 1 (01:15:30):
I think that Aaron Rodgers has a chance and he
believes this too. You go to a team that has
never had a losing record with Mike Tomlin, you have
the talent and you have the right, but you have
the talent on that team because I mean, I know
we're trying to figure out who's gonna win what, But
there's talent on that football team. And if Aaron could
(01:15:54):
come in and really focus on the football.
Speaker 2 (01:15:58):
Aaron went in that swinging too, went and act bragging
on people, big up in people.
Speaker 1 (01:16:03):
You know, he said that it's a big tight end,
uh friar mouth or it is a Washington.
Speaker 2 (01:16:09):
Washington reminds him of the big running the big tight
end that he played with in Green Bay and mestade
is Lewis look and I was just like, Okay, he's
going in there and he's he's trying to be enduring
to the teammates, so that's that's optimistic.
Speaker 3 (01:16:26):
He tried that too in New York and him and
Gary Wilson was about to fight. You know, Garrett wasn't
having it. Do you give me the ball? I'm the
playmaker on this. I'm to me once again.
Speaker 1 (01:16:42):
I want to thank everybody for joining the show, thank
you for sharing what we do every single day to
entertain you.
Speaker 3 (01:16:50):
Happy birthday to the big fellow Martin doing a great
job as always, and I want to thank you the
people for tuning in.
Speaker 1 (01:16:58):
Tomorrow's show is going to be a lot of fun.
Speaker 3 (01:17:00):
We told you about the Austin Gambler and how it's
like American Idol. Tomorrow we will have the Austin Gambler's
head coach, Michael gaffiey g men talking about how this
thing is going to go down this weekend and it
will be a feeld good football product from Marcus. I'm
