(01:29):

Hart, my co host, is a WWE Hall of Famer
and recognized as the world's strongest man.

Speaker 4 (01:38):
He is the mark Henry Good.

Speaker 1 (01:41):
Fresh off his birthday, fresh off his birthday, and I
saw all of the birthday wishes. And our guy Marcus
is behind the boards. And if you want to be
a part of the show, all you gotta do is
text the word Texas followed by your message to eight
one five three zero. Standard data and message rates may apply.
That's the word Texas. I will buy your message to
eight one five three zero. Standard data and message rates

(02:04):
may apply. And also make sure you're on that always
new and improved and free iHeartRadio app. You'll get a
chance to use that talkback feature a little bit later
as we give you a chance to win a pair
of tickets to go see Alice Cooper and Judas Priest.
But we also want to make sure that we are

(02:25):
number one in your heart and number one on that
pre set mark. Yesterday, Dave Campbell's Texas Football came out
and teased us a little bit with the cover of it,
and of course, guess who's on the cover. If you're
the hottest thing in sports, you gotta make sure that
you have Texas Football coach Steve Sarkisian as the cover

(02:50):
boy of Dave Campbell's Texas Football. You know, they should
have did a pull out of all the fits that
coach sark wore at football game, the suits. No, like,
you could have done something really stylish with him, because,
I mean, the guy's he's a personality. He's not just
a football coach. But I mean, your day job is

(03:13):
pretty damn good. Yeah. If you're going.

Speaker 2 (03:17):
To the final four every year in the playoffs, you
deserve to be on the cover.

Speaker 1 (03:22):
Yeah. He's done a really really good job of that
and them being able to choose who they wanted and
now it is coach Sark on the twenty twenty five
cover of Dave Campbell's Texas Football. And one of the
things too, that you go back and you look back
in history and through this time, throughout this history, there

(03:47):
has been he is the sixth Texas Football coach to
be on the cover. Daryl Royal, Larry McWilliams, John mackovic,
mac Brown, Tom Herman, and now Steve Sarkesian has been
able to grace the cover of Dave Campbell's Texas Question.

(04:08):
They've got answers. What's up? How did mcavig get on there?

Speaker 4 (04:11):
What do you mean they won the Big Twelve in
their first year?

Speaker 2 (04:17):
Okay, because my memories of mcavig were not good.

Speaker 1 (04:20):
Well, I mean they did a pretty good job. They
had Ricky here, he got Ricky here. They won the
Big Twelve, the first twelve, that's what was Ricky was great. Yeah,
I mean that hometel, they won, James Brown as their leader.

Speaker 4 (04:36):
I mean that that was a good team.

Speaker 1 (04:38):
So I'm I'm looking at it as being the sixth
one looks at the history of the University of Texas
and Darryl Royal, Larry McWilliams, John mcvick, mac Brown, and
Tom Herman. That's when Tom Herman, he was ascending in
the right direction at that time. Texas never had a

(05:01):
losing season while he was here. Oh well, yeah they did.
They had the last last one. Yeah, yeah, yeah, Judge,
But we have that stricken from the record, that's stricken
from the record, but you you understand what I'm saying.
And being the head coach at the University of Texas
and you brought it up just a minute ago. It
has its privileges, you know what I'm saying, And one

(05:21):
of those is it also comes with a lot of pressure.
The magnifying glass, it gets bigger and bigger and bigger.
So for him and the fact that Coach Sark is
now the cover boy, that's big time news man.

Speaker 2 (05:34):
Well you talking about that magnifying glass. It's the size
of the Frost Tower. And of course there's things that's
bigger than the Frost town now.

Speaker 1 (05:41):
But I digress.

Speaker 2 (05:44):
When you look at Texas program, like the architect for
that program is Steve Srakese.

Speaker 1 (05:51):
And I take that back. Herman never had a losing
season here. Wow, he was seven and six, ten and four,
eight and five and seven and three. He got fired
up for the second wind season. Hey if you're not over, yeah,
I got you, I got you, I got you.

Speaker 2 (06:08):
But yeah, they also blacked out all the windows so
you couldn't see in the gym, and they alienated all
the players agreed agreed that.

Speaker 4 (06:16):
That we're not talking about him. We're talking about.

Speaker 1 (06:21):
I was just saying I had to I had to
correct myself because remember you just said I would like
that stricken from the record. I would like to take
that back. I was correct in my first thought. Ye
can we put that back? To put that back in?
Never had a losing record, but go ahead.

Speaker 2 (06:37):
But I really do feel like you know when you're
when when everything is on you and you designed it,
and you built it, and you recruited it, and you
brought in the coaches.

Speaker 1 (06:49):
Everything starts with you. So when you fail, you equally
have that magnifying glass. We have yet to see that
from coach Sark. And that's why he was on the cover.

Speaker 4 (07:02):
Well we saw that in the very beginning the first year.

Speaker 1 (07:05):
That's where he came in and the couple was bad, right,
That's where he was like, hold up, man, I got
a rig with paprika and some occasion I gotta have
my I gotta have some and got nothing but regular Saul.
But now, and you know, salt looks like sugar, but
it ain't. But the thing about it is you are correct.

(07:32):
There are some things that needed to be done. He
started to say, we needed to go get some big humans.

Speaker 4 (07:37):
They went and got big humans.

Speaker 1 (07:39):
They laid the foundation of what we are starting to
see today. So the changes and the direction and you
said it earlier. I mean he was part of the
Final four twice and was and is the only participant
in that. Yeah, it's incredible.

Speaker 2 (07:55):
You know, I'm always talking about the big humans too, right,
I'm always I'm a sizes But today, no, Yeah, world
strongest take is going to have I'm just a little teased.
It's gonna be about the It's gonna be about the past,
the tough, the smaller guy. So y'all can stop getting

(08:16):
on me about just talking about the big boy.

Speaker 5 (08:18):
Yep.

Speaker 1 (08:18):
So now we get to move forward. Congratulations to coach Sark.
But when much is given, much his ass, you know
what I'm saying. So he is, uh, he's ready for
that though he doesn't shy away from the pressure of
being the head coach of the University of Texas.

Speaker 4 (08:35):
So that's pretty cool.

Speaker 1 (08:36):
And by the way, you can hear all ut football
games right here on sports Radio AM thirteen hundred zone.

Speaker 2 (08:43):
Can I let me ask you a question, yep, do
you think that this is the year that they get
over the hunt and finally get into that championship game
and have the opportunity to hold Oister Trophy. People, well
that's what everybody's saying. Oh, it's going to be Texas.

(09:04):
The defense is to sound too deep. The offense they
have weapons all over the place. The coach is brilliant.
They brought in other coaches that have a high, high
win rate. I just I'm starting to I'm starting to

(09:24):
drink the kool aid.

Speaker 1 (09:25):
Well, I mean, the kool aid has definitely been prepared
and ready to go. And those are the types of
things that we have all talked about and thought about.
But right now you start to look at this football
team and you believe that, Yeah, a lot of people
have them as the number one team in the land.
A lot of people have them with a Heisman Trophy
winner at quarterback. So the expectations are through the roof.

(09:48):
You got Anthony Hill as a linebacker, you got Colin
Simmons as a linebacker. You got guys on this football
team that have made a name for themselves. So the
expectations are a of what people normally would go through.
But when you go to the University of Texas, that's
the important part of it. You got to sign up
for the journey because it's gonna be a tough one

(10:10):
and you're gonna be hit with all kinds of things
coming in different directions. But most importantly, you got to
be able to make those things happen when Texas tries
to find tries to find that that movement and all
the opportunities in which that they have. So Texas is
in a good spot. But with coach Shark being on

(10:31):
on the cover, there's a lot to be desired for.
You also gonna bring all the haters out.

Speaker 4 (10:40):
Oh many, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey hey.

Speaker 1 (10:47):
They stay employed, I mean, University of Texas keeps them
employed because they ain't got nothing else to do.

Speaker 6 (10:52):
Man, especially if they come out the gate and beat
Ohio State in the horseshoe.

Speaker 1 (11:01):
It's gonna go Chrisy. The expectations.

Speaker 2 (11:03):
Everybody's gonna be like arch fidesman, give it to him.

Speaker 1 (11:06):
Now.

Speaker 4 (11:06):
Oh you already done that, didn't you.

Speaker 1 (11:09):
Aren't you part of Aren't you part of the mass
mob that is ready for him to be crowned? I
would like that, but I'm not out here picking in
and in the front of the stadium hard.

Speaker 4 (11:22):
You're gonna leave the campaign.

Speaker 1 (11:23):
This year Hey, I want them. I want them to
run the ball. You and Guch, You and gucc are
gonna be leading that charge. We're just getting started on
a field good Friday edition of The Morning Kickoff coming up.
The next we're gonna talk NFL.

Speaker 4 (11:39):
And is this player's height real?

Speaker 1 (11:43):
We'll talk about it and we'll also have special guests
at seven point thirty four eight o'clock in eight seventeen.
The Friday, Feel Good Friday edition of The Morning Kickoff
is gonna be great right here on Sports Radio AM
thirteen hundred The Zone.

Speaker 4 (11:58):
Coming up. In the next segment, we'll have our guy Blue.

Speaker 1 (12:01):
Zertuch talked about Texas basketball recruiting as coach Sean Miller
has come in and hit the ground running, has done
an unbelievable job of making some headway with the state
of Texas. One of the things he said in his
press conference was about recruiting the state of Texas, but

(12:23):
yet also recruiting some of the best players in the country.

Speaker 4 (12:26):
I have no doubt about it.

Speaker 1 (12:28):
When we talk to our guy Blue, he will tell
us about a bunch of guys and one of them
is a former Texas Longhorned Son who is lighting it
up on the recruiting trail.

Speaker 4 (12:42):
But right now I want to go out to Cleveland.

Speaker 1 (12:45):
Cleveland this is for you, or we can go Cleveland
brown we can have his confidence. I'd be but the
Cleveland Browns have created a storyline like no other. So

(13:08):
during the time of the pre draft and everything else
that was going in with the draft, everybody thought Shador
Sanders was going to be a top pick. For whatever reason,
whether it's his father, whether it was his attitude, whatever
it might have been. He falls in the draft, almost
goes undrafted, and then he finally shows up on the

(13:31):
board and he gets drafted by the Cleveland Browns, a
team that everybody thought originally he was gonna go to. Anyway,
there was a big chance that he would go there. Well,
eventually he falls all the way down, gets drafted. But
the problem was they had already brought back in Joe Flacco,
they had already traded for Kenny Pickett, and then they

(13:52):
drafted Dylan Gabriel from Oregon. So now you walk into
this locker room and you've got the vet, the former
first rounder, the new rookie that they drafted, and the
personality of all personalities, Shadoor Sanders. Now all accounts, everybody

(14:16):
was gonna come in. They figured it was gonna be
Joe Flacco's job.

Speaker 4 (14:19):
He's the vet.

Speaker 1 (14:20):
He was there. They had success, and you've seen Miles
Garrett right, he wants to win. He wants to win.
So you're thinking, Okay, this is what's gonna happen. Well,
lo and behold all he's done. Shoudoor, Sanders is light
up their camp, light it up. And the fans in

(14:41):
Cleveland who went from can't believe they got this guy here.
He needs to get up out of here. Have now
kind of changed. Oh wait a minute their tune and realize,
oh this got good.

Speaker 7 (14:52):
We have a great feel for this young man. He's
a very very hard worker. He has fun when he's
in the building. I'm enjoying watching him per with every
single meeting, with every single rep. He's he's doing a
great job. And I think as a as a young player,
I don't care what position you're playing, you're gonna run
a player.

Speaker 4 (15:08):
You're gonna get something wrong.

Speaker 7 (15:09):
That's so valuable because then you get to correct it,
get it right the next time. And he's doing a really,
really nice job. I think he's showing up early, he's
staying late, and he continues to get better every single day,
and that's the fun part. But just having him in
the meeting room brings a great personality in there's it's
fun to have, I said, right behind him, Joe is
to my left, to Shador's left, and to see those

(15:29):
two bounce ideas off each other is hilarious.

Speaker 1 (15:32):
You know, Joe will say a few.

Speaker 7 (15:33):
Things and and I'll be like, Joe, Chador wasn't born.

Speaker 4 (15:38):
He wasn't born then.

Speaker 7 (15:40):
So it's just he's got great energy, great kid, working
his tail off, and he's playing really well too.

Speaker 1 (15:45):
So he talked faster than Halliberg.

Speaker 4 (15:47):
Well this is the day man.

Speaker 2 (15:49):
I'm just hey, can we promise him more time so
he don't.

Speaker 1 (15:53):
Have to talk so fat? Well, that's a coach man.
He's got things to do. He's on the schedules fans.
He's like, hey, man, I need you to get this done.
And that's exactly what he's doing. So for me, it's like, Okay,
he's doing the right things and things that he's probably
already done. But people didn't give him the opportunity to
see that because they thought that he wasn't the guy

(16:13):
right oh oh, he I'm a quarterback last year in
college football.

Speaker 2 (16:19):
I'm still convinced that all the owners got together. It's
a small room, hards, thirty people, thirty two people, and
just said, listen, we got.

Speaker 1 (16:29):
To humble him. Don't do it. Don't do it.

Speaker 4 (16:33):
But it's humbling somebody worth not being good.

Speaker 1 (16:37):
It's never not.

Speaker 4 (16:38):
There's no way that you can do it.

Speaker 1 (16:40):
You can draft them and bring them in and say, look, man,
here is where we are.

Speaker 4 (16:44):
Are you willing to be this before you drive?

Speaker 1 (16:46):
Rational? Though?

Speaker 2 (16:48):
Try to be if you had you said it yourself,
if you was a billionaire, a lot of people would
have to And I went, oh, okay, a lot of
people would have to win.

Speaker 8 (16:59):
I just say that.

Speaker 1 (17:00):
You the one who said you would have half a million,
I mean half a.

Speaker 2 (17:05):
Man, you can give me thirty five dollars in the coach,
I'm tell you.

Speaker 1 (17:11):
That's what I'm saying. Like it's one of those things
that as a billionaire, how did you become a billionaire?
You was working hard and believing in the people around
you to be able to help you get to that.
And that is why, at least that's what I heard.
I ain't no billionaires. I ain't gonna be able to
do that. But I want you to hear what the

(17:33):
radio stations in Cleveland are talking about, because those were
the ones that were openly hating, openly bashing. And now
remember what I said, humility. Chador is the only guy
that hasn't gone against the ones?

Speaker 8 (17:48):
Is that right?

Speaker 4 (17:49):
That is my understanding.

Speaker 9 (17:49):
Why did anyone ask the coach of the fifty reporters
out there?

Speaker 1 (17:55):
Did anybody ask coach, why have we.

Speaker 9 (17:56):
Not seen Shador against the number ones? No, of course
they have it.

Speaker 10 (18:00):
Or you could subscribe to Aaron's theory that they want
Kenny Pickett and Dylan Gabriel to be because those are
the guys that were picked first, Kenny Pickett from the
veterans standpoint, Dylan Gabriel from the.

Speaker 9 (18:11):
Rookie standing Chrich, I guess what, I'm not gonna worry
about it anymore. I know my guy's the best quarterback
I do. I think he's better than Kenny Pickett or
will be. And I do think he'll be better than
Dylan Gabriel. Whether or not he's a Super Bowl MVP,
I doubt very much. So I'm gonna leave Joe Flacco
out of this for now, but I think that guy's
the best quarterback in camp.

Speaker 4 (18:33):
Now.

Speaker 1 (18:34):
People have now changed their thought process. They have now
decided I am riding with Chador to be the backup quarterback.
Going into the season, people thought it was going to
be a distraction. It's not a distraction, Cleveland. You need
a winner. You want to win. Y'all have been bad

(18:58):
for a long time. You thought Deshaun Watson after massage
Gate was gonna be your guy. Well now he's not.
He's still dealing with injuries. He may come back later,
but you're doing everything you possibly can to find a
suitor for him because his time there was non existent.

Speaker 2 (19:21):
Hard Your son is a basketball player, yeah, and he's
a good shooter.

Speaker 1 (19:26):
And you see good shooters like a Steph Carrey. I'm
not gonna say DJ Steph Carrey, but they look alike.
But anyway, you you.

Speaker 2 (19:36):
See that the stroke is the same every time they
on free throws, always nine. They understand debt perception, and
they understand the muscle memory, the fluid motion every time,
do it the same way every time. That is the
way that Shader Sander's throw looks roll looks so consistently

(20:02):
the same every time and right now in college?

Speaker 1 (20:08):
What he is seventy seven percent something like that. Yeah,
his percentage was.

Speaker 2 (20:13):
Right now in camp again and he's going against the
number twos, he's seventy five percent.

Speaker 1 (20:20):
You think that's an accident?

Speaker 4 (20:22):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (20:24):
Or is that the way that he's designed to play?
So you get a guy that you put him against
the ones, he might go down to sixty five or seventy,
but still he gets a chance to develop against number
ones and maybe he could be a seventy percent guy
in the NFL.

Speaker 2 (20:43):
A seventy five percent guy in the NFL. Like, that's
who he is, That's what he's been trained to do.
He won in high school, he won in college.

Speaker 1 (20:53):
He's never played behind a dominant offensive line. This could
be an upgrade him.

Speaker 2 (21:00):
He could have more comfortability in the pocket and do
the same thing he did in the pros as he
did the rest of us.

Speaker 6 (21:07):
It would be really ridiculous that the team that is
known from making horrible decisions at the quarterback position made
a bad decision that fixed their quarterback decision by taking
to that late man, I'm gonna come.

Speaker 1 (21:20):
Give you a high five in a break. That was
a good take. That was a very good take Marcus.

Speaker 2 (21:27):
I'm just I'm just amazed that it's Cleveland that actually made.

Speaker 1 (21:33):
Him mistaken this, right, I Man? It is hard, am
that ain't That's just like it's poetry tall. The people
in Cleveland, well, they need.

Speaker 4 (21:43):
To get that figured out.

Speaker 1 (21:45):
And that's why they are working their behinds off and
they're gonna end up having to give him a chance
at this because he's showing his butt off in there
in Cleveland. Coming up next, we're gonna talk to our guy.

Speaker 4 (21:58):
Blueser two check about.

Speaker 1 (22:00):
The Texas recruiting in basketball. And there's a big tournament
here in Round Rock. You don't want to miss it.
Right here on the Morning Kickoff on sports Radio AM
thirteen hundred The Zone.

Speaker 4 (22:13):
Welcome back to a feel good Friday.

Speaker 1 (22:16):
Edition of the Morning Kickoff right here on sports Radio
AM thirteen hundred The Zone.

Speaker 4 (22:21):
Mike harballhars World's.

Speaker 1 (22:22):
Strongest Man in WWE Hall of Famer, the Mark Henry,
and of course Marcus on the boards and joining us
on his way down to the great city of Round
Rock is our guy Blue ver Zer.

Speaker 4 (22:38):
Two cha excuse me of Gaso He You can.

Speaker 1 (22:41):
Follow him at Gaso Blue on social media and Blue
the last time we had you on, you gave us
a lot of information about recruiting, clearing house, and what's
going on with basketball as a whole, as far as transfers,
the portal and everything else. But now I want to
talk to you about Texas basketball and the impact that

(23:03):
Sean Miller and the new coaching staff are starting to
make pathways.

Speaker 5 (23:09):
With Hey guy, thanks for having me on this morning.

Speaker 11 (23:12):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (23:13):
You know, Sean Miller, he gets.

Speaker 12 (23:14):
Hired what sometime in April, he has to figure out
the landscape pretty quickly here in the state of Texas,
and and just talking to people around you know, they're
at the Administration of Texas. You know, he's already established
himself around obviously the community and also throughout the say
of Texas, and it's still using his roots of being

(23:36):
out out east and so forth, and being out west.
Saw someone who was at Arizona and then of course
it's spent the last three years at.

Speaker 5 (23:42):
Xavier, so.

Speaker 12 (23:45):
He's had to do a lot of quick recruiting in
a short period of time.

Speaker 4 (23:50):
Yeah, and you.

Speaker 1 (23:51):
Know, there's a lot of talent in the state of Texas,
and for some reason, some of those guys get away.

Speaker 4 (23:57):
You would think that most of them.

Speaker 1 (23:59):
Well in the state Texas, everybody believes everybody should go
to Texas. But there's so much that is out there
when it comes to great basketball. And I want to
throw a couple of names that you real quick that
are high on Texas recruiting list. One of them is
a local kid in bo Ogden, son of Chris Ogden,
who now is the director of operations for the general

(24:22):
manager of Texas Basketball. Let people know about bo Ogden
and how good he's been playing this year.

Speaker 12 (24:29):
Well, if you remember his dad, you know, Chris Ogden
was you know, go see University Texas to the mister basketball.

Speaker 5 (24:38):
And back in well for it at ninety seven or
ninety eight. But bo is a completely different player. Bo
is just one of these kids that is very swift.
He can move.

Speaker 12 (24:51):
Laterally, He gets up and dela court with ease. I mean,
he does so much on the court, whether it's.

Speaker 5 (24:58):
Being kind of a little bit of a leader guards.

Speaker 12 (25:00):
When he can push it up through transition, he gets
out of the wing, he gets to the basket, and
he shoots the three, the mid range jumper. I think
a lot of a lot that he has going for
him on the offensive end. Is overshadowed by his defense.
I mean, he's long, he hits the gaps, he'll pressure
the ball, he'll rebound to start to start the break

(25:22):
in transition, and he's a well rounded player. I mean,
that's why Purdue is after him hard. Tennessee, Virginia, Texas,
those are kind of the four biggest names that are
really going after him the hardest and most consistent in
his recruiting. I don't know if it's a complete layup
for him to go to Texas, especially when you have

(25:43):
a team like Purdue that that has been rich with
guards over the past eight to ten years and how
good they have been.

Speaker 2 (25:55):
Man I Blue, I'm a big fan of Marcus Spears
signed too. What's the word on him and his recruiting visits.

Speaker 5 (26:07):
Yeah, well they you know, he was at the NBA camp.

Speaker 12 (26:10):
Which a lot of guys that that Texas is targeting
right now were so at NBA camp. Marcus went out
and just put up some big numbers. But you're also
talking about a kid that's six about six eight plays
out on the wing and he's not even fully developed

(26:31):
when you watch him. Well, let's go back this past
high school. You're playing at dynamic prep. He may be
gone on the four, six eight minutes a game off
that Now he's in a bigger role obviously as he's
playing with his age group, playing national national leg.

Speaker 5 (26:47):
And really has the national scouts buzzing about him. But
here's the thing.

Speaker 12 (26:51):
This kid has not even fully coordinated and hasn't even
hit his ceiling and he has a high ceiling moving
forward with his ability just to to to be that
size that like I said, at six eight, put the
ball on the floor, hit little jumpers, get to the
rimage finished. You know, defensively, he's gonna altern block shots

(27:12):
out on the perimeter, you know, just being away from
the from from the inside of the of the paint,
where you where you think most six eight guys would be.
But man, his development is coming on, uh at a
great pace that where you know nationally and especially in
the state of Texas, he's he's uh gonna make a
big impact.

Speaker 1 (27:32):
Do you court him now?

Speaker 2 (27:33):
And do you like try to I mean, his sister
is already here at the University of Texas and volleyball, Like,
do you start pushing the fam to you know, really put.

Speaker 1 (27:45):
The full court press on him. For lack of a
better term.

Speaker 12 (27:49):
Well, I think anytime that you get a chance that
you have, like for Texas there, Yeah, they're gonna want
him on campus as much as possible.

Speaker 5 (27:58):
They're gonna want.

Speaker 12 (28:01):
To see him be you know, have Sean Miller in
front of him as much as possible. And I think
that you know, to put things really into perspective of
what's going on at Texas right now. You know, Sean Miller,
like I mentioned earlier, as you'll know that he gets
hired in April, Yet how many times has he really
been able.

Speaker 5 (28:20):
To see these players in these prospects. You know, he
had a.

Speaker 12 (28:24):
Little bit of an open period that we talked about
a month ago. That was May sixteen to eighteenth, and
as far as I know, Sean Miller.

Speaker 5 (28:31):
Was only out for I don't know, just maybe a
day and then he was able to see.

Speaker 12 (28:36):
These kids play over the last couple of days that
the NCAA had an open period at the NBA camp,
so there's another couple two days, so he spent really
three days on the road actually evaluating these kids. So
having somebody like Marcus and the parents and the sister
on campus that really helps.

Speaker 5 (28:57):
With moving that along.

Speaker 12 (28:58):
That Yeah, that's a guy that you that you want
to get done as early as possible. But also I
think in a lot of ways, the high school kid
is in control of the of their recruitment through the NIL.

Speaker 5 (29:13):
Uh uh yeah said that correctly.

Speaker 12 (29:17):
Yep, ye in l I Yeah, the NIL and then
uh you know, they're just gonna.

Speaker 5 (29:23):
Slow play things.

Speaker 12 (29:24):
And so there's especially when there's money involved, and then
there's still more development. And in Texas is one of
many many, uh you know, colleges that are that are
on him right now. But he made a pretty big
statement this tast week in the NBA game.

Speaker 1 (29:40):
Yeah, he's done a really good job this off season
well during these periods to establish his name for the
twenty twenty seven class. Another name that I want to
talk to you about before we let you go is
Austin Goolsby. His brother is a big dude on campus
on the offensive line, but his his younger brother, Austin Goby,

(30:01):
is a name that people have on the top of
their list as well.

Speaker 12 (30:07):
Yet six seven he does everything out there.

Speaker 5 (30:10):
On that court.

Speaker 12 (30:10):
I mean it's it's from being the main floor generals
in the ball knocking down shots. When you watch highlights
of him, he is so smooth, he is so effortless
and then.

Speaker 5 (30:23):
And they're so.

Speaker 12 (30:25):
His basketball background it watching him grow throughout the last
couple of years has been phenomenal. He's a number one
rated kid in the class of twenty twenty six. And
you know, it seems like another one of those Bow
August situations, like why would he not go to Texas?
But he's got Kansas. Ucla just came in with an offer. B.
B why us come in with the offer? I mean

(30:47):
when and not just his brother, but I believe one
of his parents, I believe graduated.

Speaker 5 (30:50):
From the from the University of Texas.

Speaker 12 (30:52):
So it's not going to be easy for anybody outside
of Texas to get him and done. But also it's
there's gonna be a little bit of a challenge, I
still think, but you would. But with Ogden and with
bo Ogden and Austin Usey, he might feel pretty comfortable
that those two guys could be Longhorns and in their

(31:15):
future no doubt.

Speaker 1 (31:16):
Before we let you go, tell us about the event
this weekend and some big names that might be here
this weekend.

Speaker 12 (31:25):
Well, it is about one hundred and twenty eight teams
for a weekend before the TVC Showcase that it's gonna
have five hundred and twenty two teams. We uh uh
you know, we're settling in there in Austin with those teams,
and uh you know some of the bigger names that
I'll throw out, you know, we we.

Speaker 5 (31:43):
Have d J.

Speaker 1 (31:44):
Hard.

Speaker 12 (31:44):
I mean we could talk talk about him, Mike in
his in his development over the last couple of months
and what we like about him.

Speaker 5 (31:53):
I'll play with RTX Coops.

Speaker 12 (31:54):
And then Mac Brown mac Martin from Buda Johnson's playing
with a three SSB sixteen YU this weekend. And also
maybe not some of the bigger names, but we do
have a couple of tidbits here with like Alex Hill
who's playing for Team HoTT.

Speaker 5 (32:13):
His his dad was Lamont is Lamont Hill.

Speaker 12 (32:16):
That played at the University of Texas a walk on
and then became a scholarship player. His uncle is Thomas
Hill from Saint Andrews, who went to Duke and.

Speaker 5 (32:25):
Is famously pictured in the Christian Latner.

Speaker 12 (32:29):
Shot heard around the country in the NCAA tournament with
his hands on his head in tears of disbelief that
they want you look at the rhythm that's coming into town.
They have orbon Crocker from San Antonio, Tammie, but also
on that team's two NBA players of sons with with

(32:51):
Draven Duncan, the Tim Duncanson and then Ozmail Bowen who
was Bridge Bowen's son that are playing in there.

Speaker 5 (32:58):
So there's a lot of little tidbit.

Speaker 12 (33:00):
That that if he comes down to to round Rock
Sports Center this week and you'll you'll see a lot
of things on the on the court, uh with with
players just they go out there and compete. One more
Texas act rich mcgiver uh.

Speaker 5 (33:13):
His his son.

Speaker 12 (33:14):
He is the Texas UH product. Also he's from the
brades Court area. He believe he signed at Michigan that
came over to Texas and was like a traditional four
man for them, and he played a big role with
his son.

Speaker 5 (33:27):
Is is six seven six eight and uh.

Speaker 12 (33:30):
And and he uh, he's he's pretty currently on the
basketball court, which you know, I really like uh Richmond
myself and and what he's been doing out there for
go get it select. He goes to Grace Academy there
I think in Georgetown.

Speaker 1 (33:44):
So like love it, love it, love it, and uh,
I can't wait for the weekend because it's gonna be
a lot of fun, safe travels and will see you tomorrow.

Speaker 5 (33:55):
All right, thanks that.

Speaker 4 (33:56):
I appreciate you.

Speaker 1 (33:57):
Man.

Speaker 4 (33:57):
We got a lot of information right there. Texas Texas
recruits coming up next. We're gonna close out our.

Speaker 1 (34:03):
Number one and get into our number two as we'll
have Michael Gaffney the g Men joining us at the
top of the hour right here on Sports Radio and
thirteen hundred the Zone. We went a little long in
that segment with our guy Blue Zertuch and of Gasol
Big Tournament coming up this weekend, and yes, Tim Duncan,
Bruce Bowen, Monti Williams. There's so many players or former

(34:29):
NBA players that have kids that are playing all kinds
of sports.

Speaker 4 (34:32):
You see it in football. You brought up Marcus spears.

Speaker 1 (34:34):
Son and what he's been able to do, Mark and
he continues to get better and better. Since we're gonna
since we just had a basketball conversation, I'm gonna stay
there because the news came out yesterday with the acc
SEC Challenge. The Texas Longhorns men's basketball team will be
hosting the Virginia Cavaliers December to third at the Moody

(34:57):
Center as part.

Speaker 4 (34:58):
Of the ACC SEC Challenge.

Speaker 1 (35:01):
We've heard different things throughout these processes, especially about the
schedules and how these are all starting to come through.
We heard on November the fourth they will take on
Duke in Charlotte, North Carolina and part of the Dicky
v Invitational, and then they're going to Maui in November.

(35:22):
We don't know who they're going to be playing in
those games. But then they just announced that ACC SEC
Challenge will be Wednesday, December third, hosting Virginia Cavaliers at home.
And also they've also announced on the women's side the
ACC SEC Challenge. The women the following night will take

(35:43):
on North Carolina as they will host that team in
their upcoming season as they will be part of the
SEC ACC Challenge. Both teams are going to be ready
to go. They're all starting their offseason program. You think
about Texas women's basketball team, how they finished last year,

(36:04):
and now you got Madison Booker, who was named CEC
Player of the Year.

Speaker 4 (36:08):
She's the first team All American.

Speaker 1 (36:10):
You bring back a Rory Harmon, and you saw the
development of Jordan Lee from three. That's right, Jordan Lee
from three as she starts to make her moves as well.

Speaker 4 (36:22):
So this Texas.

Speaker 1 (36:24):
Basketball program men and women, top notch. Added some scorers
to the women's team.

Speaker 5 (36:30):
Yep.

Speaker 2 (36:30):
And that was one of the places where Texas had
some problems is you didn't have that outside scorer like
you did, an inside scorer like Madison Booker.

Speaker 1 (36:42):
And you bring in the freshman to Leah Crump. Yeah, exactly.
You bring in Lea Crump. She's shooting off the bus
in the parking lot. As soon as her foot hit
the asphalt, somebody needed to guard her.

Speaker 4 (36:54):
Well, the thing is some defense to it. And she
better be able to learn.

Speaker 1 (36:59):
If she don't know, she got a root awake, Manna
learn today, come in grill yep.

Speaker 4 (37:09):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (37:10):
In the development too, I said about the freshman Jordan Lee,
you can't forget about Brionna Preston and what she brought
as a number of a backup to Rory and the
ability that she has. I'm excited for this women's basketball team.
They they continue to reload, they don't rebuild. That's what
it's all about. When you're when you are being to
the pinnacle and you've seen it now you want to

(37:33):
get it. And especially for Rory and and Madison Bucker
Rory coming back.

Speaker 4 (37:38):
That's something that has been special.

Speaker 1 (37:39):
I want to I want to get some practices because
I want to see who's going to be the Ridman
type player, right, because they they really need that. If
they can get that hustle rebounded defender six one, six'
two that can really defend multiple. Positions, Yep texas a
winning national championship with more, scoring no doubt about. It

(38:01):
if they have.

Speaker 2 (38:02):
More scoring and they have a Defensive Star, wars they'll
win a national. Championship ye they're too consistent. Already there's
a lot that is going on that we continue to
try to figure out and make some things happen. Immediately
when it comes To Texas Ametia Lee texas women and

(38:22):
men's basketball team ACC Sc CHALLENGE Sec Challenge december. Third
texas men will Host Virginia december the, fourth the women
will Host North. Carolina our number one is in the.
Books coming up, next we have The Austin.

Speaker 1 (38:38):
Gamblers that's, right they are trying to get the Next Austin.
Gambler we'll talk talk about it with g. Men Michael,

Speaker 1 (41:05):
My, friend no doubt no, Doubt so tell us about

Speaker 13 (41:31):
Group they're In Williamson County Expost center this weekend tomorrow
night to be, specific and seven thirty start, time and
there's six teams you, know being headlined by each coach
that we picked. Individually one of my old traveling, Partners
brian p Wee. Herman two of my current roster, Guys Dinner,
barbosa A brazilian, champion and Then Stage, kimsey seven time

(41:53):
WORLD prca. Champion the two of them are joining our
Team Austin gambler's this. Year we're so excited about those
two guys coming on to the roster because they're going
to play an integral part in us repeating that championship
that we won in twenty twenty. Four so, yeah lots
of things happening this weekend out there and bull.

Speaker 11 (42:10):
Riding each team is going.

Speaker 13 (42:13):
To have five guys up and, comers and this is
going to be their their vincent For paul Moments.

Speaker 11 (42:18):
HARD i, MEAN i, mean, really it truly. IS i,
mean this is their chance to show what they've.

Speaker 13 (42:24):
Got you, know all of them are aspiring professional bull,
riders and this is their chance to come out and
show some grit and try and make that eight second.

Speaker 2 (42:34):
Whistle what's going, on. BROTHERS i just want to let
you know THAT i want to clear something up For.
Hard he said that he wants people to come out
and try, it not not come out and try to bull.
Ride come out and enjoy.

Speaker 4 (42:49):
It that's, right.

Speaker 1 (42:51):
Guys do not come out there thinking that you're about
to get on a bull and have. Success i'm gonna
explain to you what your you would be. Like you're
gonna be in a bit hook them to a machine
that's making beeping, sounds and both legs are gonna be
up in stirrups trying to heel up from all of

(43:12):
the metal that they had to put in to put
your legs.

Speaker 5 (43:15):
Back.

Speaker 1 (43:15):
Agin so don't do.

Speaker 4 (43:18):
It, yeah you.

Speaker 13 (43:20):
Got to have a certain level of a competency to
come out and, call.

Speaker 11 (43:27):
And you got to be a little bit sideways in the.
Brain but, yeah it should be.

Speaker 5 (43:35):
Fun it should be, fun for.

Speaker 1 (43:36):
Sure so G, MAN i wanted to ask you this,
too because you, know for for the average, fan they
look at it ON tv and they, understand oh they're
look AT pbr and they go out and they try
to ride that mechanical bull and everything that goes into.
It but you have told me a long time ago
that these bulls are. Athletes they are trained and brought

(43:56):
up to be a bucking bull and if you don't
know what you're, doing it can definitely hurt. You but
what have a bad? Day what is it about being
a bull? Rider and The Austin gamblers in, particular because
you guys have had a bunch of success in a
short period of.

Speaker 4 (44:13):
Time, yeah And i'm.

Speaker 11 (44:16):
Gonna throw some names. Out you, KNOW jj gotch obviously really.

Speaker 13 (44:19):
Well Mike parts he introduced me to you and and
he's our OUR, gm OUR ceo of the.

Speaker 11 (44:25):
Franchise he's In.

Speaker 13 (44:26):
AUSTIN i he's been, here you, know twenty five plus
years and he's just he's he's been able to step
up into the.

Speaker 1 (44:33):
Role he.

Speaker 11 (44:33):
Came you, know it was like he was a baseball,
guy had no.

Speaker 13 (44:35):
Real experience with with background and bull, riding but, man
he jumped, in you, know full. Board and he's given
us an opportunity along with the owners of The derby
family out of out Of texas Or texas people and
uh and giving us the tools and that being you,
know our professional writers that we've drafted over the less
this we're starting our fourth season in teams here In Oklahoma,

(44:57):
city first part Of, july and and you, know spearheaded
by our, Captain Jose, vitorlemey who's A brazilian soccer player
for all.

Speaker 11 (45:05):
Beings you, know he didn't start writing untill.

Speaker 13 (45:07):
Seventeen and he just won his Third World championship just
the other day In Fort. Worth in THE, pvr he's,
over he's won over eight million. Dollars and and that's
where THE pbr has come. From you, know it's come
from you, know when we started in a hotel room
in nineteen ninety, Two, harje you, know there was fifteen
of us and we had a. Name we threw in
a thousand, bucks we had a, name and you, know.

Speaker 11 (45:29):
Fast forward thirty plus years.

Speaker 13 (45:31):
Later this is kind of the second evolutionary, PIECE i
like to call it of THE pbr professional Bull. Riders
and now we have a professional blating team here In
austin and and we've we won the championship this Past
october again spearheaded by our Captain Jose Vitor. Lema and
and uh, yeah it's it's it's been a wonderful ride

(45:53):
for all of us founders in THE pbr to see
where it was ourselves right and you, KNOW i Retired.
No four and to see where it's come has just
been amazing. Growth and it's because of it's because of
things like, this doing this kind of pr and social
and getting out into the fans and introducing the professional
writing so they can, understand you, know what it's about

(46:16):
and what it takes to, ride you, know an animal
athlete like you like you speak of and and they're
just they're the they're the thoroughbreds that you saw racing
The secretary of The Sea. BISCUITS i, mean they really truly.
Are and and it's and it's a business in. Itself
And i'll say this last about the bulls is. Large
this has become the largest cattle registry in all the

(46:39):
world the bucking bull it's called THE adbi and it
was formed by THE pbr and they've got more bucking
bulls registered than any other cattle breed in the.

Speaker 11 (46:47):
World it's grown so.

Speaker 1 (46:49):
Fast wow, WOW i, mean because you start thinking about,
that and AS i, SAID i found out that they're,
athletes they got, names they've been, trained they've done so.
Much and then you have to try to figure out
exactly how you're going to ride them and who's gonna ride,
them because you got to make.

Speaker 13 (47:06):
The right choice right, right this whole this whole game
against another. Team you, know we've got ten teams across the.
Country you, know we have in the state Of texas
being so, large we're the only state that has two
professional writing, TEAMS us and The Fort Worth. Rattlers and
it's coached By Cody, lambert another founder in THE pvr

(47:28):
professional bull rider Himself Wrong rider back in the. Day
and uh, yeah we we you, know these guys like the.
Bulls we go into training. Camps we'll start our training
camps when When joe's a and. Them he's In brazil
right now up at his home In, Decatur, texas and
we'll have a camp three or four days of kind
of getting ready and setting our stage For Oklahoma city
come the first part Of, july and then uh, yeah

(47:51):
we it's it's all strategy and when we go into a,
competition it's us against five other, guys say The. Rattlers
it's head to head. Competition the highest and agri how
many bulls you ride that night beats to the other.
Team it's as simple as. That but it's still it's
still professional bull, riding and that is man against, beasts
and it's and it's our guys that we strategize and

(48:12):
put on the right bulls that fit their profile and
that fit them better than say the other four guys
on on my. Team so it is it's about strategy
and at the end of the, day it's grit determination
of our.

Speaker 11 (48:25):
Riders for, SURE i.

Speaker 2 (48:25):
Have to come out because you just said something That
I'm i'm kind of puzzled. By you, said the more
bulls you gotta ride more than.

Speaker 13 (48:34):
Once, well each night typically on a format when we
speak of the In, august The august twenty second through
the twenty, fourth we have gambler days and our aesome
nights have BECOME i think aware of, this this event
there at The Moody, center and it's this will be
our fourth.

Speaker 11 (48:52):
Year this is our fourth season we're.

Speaker 13 (48:54):
Starting and they come out and they'll See friday, Night saturday,
night And sunday afternoon and, night we will go head
to head with another, team whether it be The Missouri.
Thunder let's say That's Johnny morris's, team you knows Bass
pro shops and coached By Ross coleman And Luke, snyder
and it'll be their five guys against our five.

Speaker 11 (49:14):
Guys they'll write a, bull we'll ride a, bull they'll write.

Speaker 13 (49:16):
A bull until each team has rode five bulls or
mounted five, bulls and then, hopefully you, know we're riding
five out of five and they ride four out of
five and we beat.

Speaker 14 (49:25):
Them.

Speaker 13 (49:26):
Yep so it's, uh it's it's pretty easy to understand,
format uh for our, fans because it's kind of that
traditional this team against that. Team but again it comes
down to, you, guys about a guy when he nods his,
head he's got to ride his bull in complete the
eight second ride to get a.

Speaker 5 (49:43):
Score and then after.

Speaker 13 (49:45):
That those five bull, rides who is whoever's highest in
the aggregate will take that, game and then you come
back and you do it again the next two. Days
you got a game the next, day and then they
lick their wounds that, night and we come back and
we come on and the guys get on get on

broke yesterday right here on The Morning kickoff On Sports
RADIO a thirteen Hundred The. Zone welcome back to the

(51:35):
morning kickoff right here On Sports RADIO am thirteen Hundred The.
Zone great stuff from the head coach of The Austin,
Gamblers michael G Man gaffney as he talks about The Austin.
Gamblers make a, wish not make a? Wish that's Pretty
that's not the normal. Thing what would you call?

Speaker 8 (51:53):
It?

Speaker 1 (51:53):
Mark, oh Like American? Idol the Next, GAMBLER i guess
is what it would. Be some guys get a chance
to do something that they're not used to doing and
fulfill some. Dreams and this, guy he has been able
to achieve. That he's the head, Coach, well he was
the head. COACH i let him finish that of The
Austin Westlake chaparral baseball team and. Coach after eleven, seasons

(52:17):
you decided to break some news.

Speaker 8 (52:19):
Yesterday, hey you know you know when it's, time.

Speaker 15 (52:22):
RIGHT i, mean you've heard so many guys say, that
and you know it's just.

Speaker 8 (52:27):
Time you, Know i've Got i've got some.

Speaker 15 (52:30):
Kids i've coached everybody else's, kids you, know AND i
want to be able to watch my, own, Right. Amen
and you Know i've got to watch everybody else's kids
for thirty one.

Speaker 8 (52:41):
Years and you know it's just. Time you, know you
know when it, is you, know.

Speaker 1 (52:45):
Right, so after eleven seasons of leading The westlake baseball,
program COACH. Jt blair decided it was time to hang him.
Up he finishes with a career record of two hundred
and nineteen ninety six and, four made it to the
state playoffs eight, times and had a, magical magical run
in twenty twenty three with a great group of kids

(53:09):
that continue to build that tradition over At. Westlake when
you first took the, job did it seem like it
was going to be a job that you were going
to be at as the head coach Of westlake for
as long as you?

Speaker 8 (53:21):
Did you, know the.

Speaker 15 (53:23):
Great Todd dodge hired me three, Times so that tells
you everything you need to know right.

Speaker 11 (53:29):
There but WHEN i.

Speaker 15 (53:30):
First got this, job people may not remember, this but
the season, before The chaparrals had only won five games
in twenty. Fifteen SO i took over a program and
really revived a program that had won not five district,
games five total games that previous. Year and in that first,

(53:53):
year you, KNOW i had a little left. Hander we
saddled him up and we wrote him, hard and we
made the playoffs that first, year and by and by
year number three we were in the regional.

Speaker 4 (54:05):
Semis so you were building that program from the very.

Speaker 1 (54:09):
Beginning And mark AND i when you was talking ABOUT
i want to watch my own kids and watch them
grow and be able to coach them and be around
them and just really get a chance to enjoy, Them
we've all been.

Speaker 4 (54:21):
There we totally.

Speaker 1 (54:22):
Understand and for the life of a, coach it's a
lot different than somebody else that is working a different
type of job that a lot of people don't, understand
the time away from the family that you have spent
over these.

Speaker 8 (54:36):
Years you, know my daughter's a pretty good softball.

Speaker 15 (54:39):
PLAYER i got to see a half of two or
her games this last, spring you, know because we were
playing On, saturdays or because we were you, know in
the in the state. Playoffs and you know that you,
know when when they, start that starts happening right, there you.
Know And i've got a son that's going to be
a coming freshman At westlake next. Year he plays, football

(55:03):
and you, know it's one of those deals when you
start missing their, games start missing your own kids, games
then you know that that becomes a that becomes something
that's a wake up.

Speaker 2 (55:16):
Call one of the most painful things to be able
to say to your. Kids i'm, sorry, Babe i'm not
gonna be able to make.

Speaker 1 (55:23):
IT i got to work.

Speaker 8 (55:28):
On, that you.

Speaker 15 (55:28):
Know and it's just it was one of those deals
WHERE i WAS i was missing a.

Speaker 8 (55:32):
Lot you, Know i've.

Speaker 15 (55:33):
Got my stepson is, uh it's a twelve year, old
but you, KNOW i was getting to see some of
his games On sundays and you're you, know he's a
baseball player select and playing the local select, leagues and you,
Know i'm watching these games and going to these, tournaments
and in my, Mind i'm, thinking you, KNOW i might

(55:56):
be on the wrong side of this.

Speaker 4 (55:57):
Business, yeah, yeah you, know, yeah we get.

Speaker 1 (56:02):
It, well, coach what what's what's?

Speaker 2 (56:03):
Next are you Gonna are you gonna do some Daytime
monday Through friday consulting?

Speaker 1 (56:09):
Training? Uh are you going to travel.

Speaker 2 (56:12):
And and and and create something that's baseball centric or
are you just gonna, say you know, What i'm just
gonna be mister.

Speaker 15 (56:20):
Mom, well right Now i'm sitting on my back porch
and having some coffee in the in The West Lake,
hills and that's a pretty good feeling right. There but you,
KNOW i Think i'm gonna go To low's and buy
me a jackhammer and and come home and the.

Speaker 8 (56:35):
First Thing i'm gonna do is take it to my alarm.

Speaker 5 (56:37):
Clock.

Speaker 1 (56:42):
Doubt you don't have to get, Up you ain't gotta be. Anywhere,
well you gotta start taking them to. School you gotta
be able to take them.

Speaker 2 (56:47):
Too you, know, hey, man buy you a new car
because you're gonna be, driven.

Speaker 8 (56:53):
Right you're gonna be Mister obra player. Development player development.

Speaker 15 (56:58):
At the at the youth, LEVEL i think is the
next step for.

Speaker 8 (57:01):
Me you, Know i've Got we're sitting right.

Speaker 15 (57:05):
Here in In, Westlake, america and we have lots of
good young talent And i'm not leaving the.

Speaker 8 (57:12):
Community i'm not going.

Speaker 15 (57:13):
Anywhere SO i think the next, step the next step
for me is is helping the new, guy whoever that,
is and and player, development and and.

Speaker 8 (57:24):
Making sure this program stays where it needs to.

Speaker 1 (57:26):
Be, Well, coach before we let you, GO i wanted
to ask you this because you, Know i'm not going
to make you, say, oh, WELL i had this kid
and that, kid but you've developed a lot of great
players along the. Way AND i, know as a, coach
one of the most gratifying things that a coach could
ever ask for is a kid to come back and, Say,

(57:47):
coach you were telling me about.

Speaker 4 (57:48):
This Now i'm starting to see. That is there one story.

Speaker 1 (57:53):
That kind of stands out more than another about somebody
that came, in wasn't really under standing what you were talking,
about then eventually got it and now sees it at another.

Speaker 4 (58:04):
Level you, KNOW.

Speaker 15 (58:08):
I got a lot of great text messages yesterday and
people were reaching out and and one of them stood
out to. ME i HAD i had a kid that
that graduated in twenty. Three he was a role player
on our, team but, man he got.

Speaker 8 (58:22):
Some really big.

Speaker 15 (58:24):
Hits like he would come in and and come off the,
bench and we had him ready for, that for that,
role but he got some of the biggest hits of our.

Speaker 8 (58:33):
Season you, know he got a he got a hit
in the.

Speaker 15 (58:36):
Regional finals that that that Broke johnson's back and got
us into the state. Tournament and you, know he's now
At Macomb's Business school and and it's just one of
those deals where you know that you impacted his. Life
he's a, leader he's gonna he's gonna keep on being a.

Speaker 8 (58:55):
Leader And i'm really proud Of but.

Speaker 15 (58:57):
There's a lot of stories like, that right and and
you're proud of all of.

Speaker 4 (59:01):
Them, yeah no doubt about.

Speaker 5 (59:03):
It.

Speaker 1 (59:03):
MAN I, mean those are the moments that you can
never never understand or you underappreciate at the. TIME i
still talk to my high school baseball coach a, lot
and he was one of my biggest mentors and AND
i SO i totally feel when a when a player
sits back to. You, hey, coach thank you for everything

(59:23):
that you did and the opportunity that to me is
the most rewarding.

Speaker 5 (59:27):
Thing.

Speaker 15 (59:27):
Man, sure, absolutely and that's that's one hundred percent what
this what this is all.

Speaker 8 (59:33):
About my dad was a.

Speaker 15 (59:34):
COACH i played for my, dad and you, know my
dad told, me it's not about What it's not about
what they can do for, you it's about what you
can do for.

Speaker 1 (59:41):
Them absolutely, absolutely AND.

Speaker 15 (59:44):
I think that's the WAY i coached my coach my
whole career like.

Speaker 1 (59:47):
That wives. Words, well, coach we want to thank you
for all that you have done for The westlake. COMMUNITY
i know this yesterday was a tough, day but sometimes
you got to make it do what it do because
it's got to be done for.

Speaker 4 (59:59):
You so we appreciate you.

Speaker 1 (01:00:02):
Taking the time today and enjoy that jackhammer to your alarm.

Speaker 4 (01:00:06):
Clock thanks.

Speaker 1 (01:00:09):
Gentlemen you know a hammer will. Work you.

Speaker 8 (01:00:11):

about being a country boy Shooting tanner right off heels
and causing great. Explosion what that is exactly What i'm
gonna do right, now Because i'm gonna blow up Some
tanner right And i'm gonna throw gasoline on the.

Speaker 1 (01:01:48):
Fire for all The longhorned.

Speaker 2 (01:01:51):
Fans everybody is talking about Arch manning and justifyingly, so
great talent with great. Opportunity the offensive. Line, okay guys
are awesome wide receiver. Speed you go into, portal you
bring in tight end and a wide.

Speaker 4 (01:02:10):
Receiver that loved the.

Speaker 1 (01:02:12):
BLOCK i mean they just hang their hat on. It
and we talked all this, SUMMER i mean all this
spring about the defensive line and the. Linebackers you know
who didn't get any. Love secondary secondary got no. Love

(01:02:33):
well today you might as well say it's Secondary day In. Austin.

Speaker 2 (01:02:39):
Guys there was a post that was, made does The
university Of texas have the best secondary in college?

Speaker 1 (01:02:49):
Football and you can argue the point with other.

Speaker 2 (01:02:54):
Schools you, KNOW, lsu it's gonna have a good, Secondary,
no The dame And clemson as well As. Alabama BUT
i would hang my hat on the fact That Michael,
Taff Malik, Muhammad jelani, McDonald Jalen, gilbo And Derick williams

(01:03:17):
coming back is a really really strong. Start and you,
know you look at the star. Position Jalen gilbo can play,
safety he can play, corner he could play slot, corner,
versatility and then you know you got the two Five foe.

(01:03:42):
Boys you know THAT i really do think it's going
to Be it's going to be a mood, changer you,
Know jelani, McDonald Kobe, Black Malik, muhammad and then we
have an even got that's the. Core that's the core

(01:04:04):
guys hard, yep the guys that everybody is saying, listen
these guys may push the starters for playing. Time wardell
mac Kay phillips six three corner that loves to hit.

(01:04:26):
People they, say you love to hit. PEOPLE i THINK
i want one of those on my. Team and Then
Exevia fish team played in seven games last year as
a true.

Speaker 1 (01:04:40):
Freshman they went to The final. Four he got reps
all throughout the. Playoffs he's another one that again can
play the star position as well as slot and. Versatility,
guys it's gonna be impossible and uh, YEAH i said,

(01:05:04):
it And i'm gonna hang my hat on. It it's
gonna be impossible to Keep Jonah williams off the. Field
he's gonna play watch me watch What i'm. Saying there's
very few guys that have the physical tools that have
come to The university Of. Texas people Like Rod babers

(01:05:27):
would look at him and, go, oh, MAN i Want
i'm he's gonna have to play on the other side
BECAUSE i don't want to give up my.

Speaker 2 (01:05:35):
Position but you the writings on the, wall all of
those guys over there should be going damn.

Speaker 1 (01:05:42):
MAN i hope he play on the other, Side. Harge
my take is as great as our linebackers and outside
ends and the guys that are gonna play on the interior.
Defense the stars of This texas defense is going to

(01:06:05):
be the. Secondary what's the? Year, well the one thing
THAT i keep talking about is the fact That Michael
taff is in the. Back Michael taff being able to
return to this football team takes this team to a
whole nother. Level he has been very, consistent he has been,
mindful and he has been a leader since the day

(01:06:28):
he was a walk on at The university Of.

Speaker 4 (01:06:31):
Texas so when.

Speaker 1 (01:06:33):
People come, in you talk About Jonah, williams who's very,
humble by the, way but if he was, Not Michael
taff is the true story of somebody that got it
out the. Mud Michael taff is the true story of
somebody that wasn't. Talented not, Talented he's definitely, talented wasn't
tuted enough to be able to come to this. University

(01:06:57):
the preferred walk on program is something that Coach stark
talked about for a while about we don't want to
lose that because you have that type of player.

Speaker 4 (01:07:07):
That could come.

Speaker 1 (01:07:08):
In but you talk About Jordan Johnson, rubel who played
outstanding when he got his opportunity to. Play Malik muhammad
is somebody that has got a lot of. Love and
we talked To Eric henry yesterday and he talked About
jolani McDonald really asserting himself in rising up to these.

(01:07:30):
Opportunities i'm huge when it comes To Derek Williams. Junior
the rafter was ready to go when he showed up.
Late he showed up during the summer and got. Reps
you knew he was. Talented so there's some guys that
are going to continue to move up in this situation

(01:07:52):
that is going to have an opportunity to Succeed Jalen.
Gilbo and a name that we did not bring up
is red shirt Fresh Sichman Santana, wilson the son of
AN nfl. Player and what were we talking about earlier?
Today the genetics can't, lie. Man the genetics are. There

(01:08:12):
you just got to give them time to. Develop they
have eleven, yeah DB's in their. Rotation how where do
you get?

Speaker 2 (01:08:22):
That every coach In america would be, like, man you got,
eleven we just need.

Speaker 1 (01:08:27):
Four as my Guy guca always, says when you look
At texas's depth, chart it's four deep. Everywhere so everybody
is scrapping for an opportunity to be a part of
the success that is. Happening that is Why texas football
Coach Steve sarkisian is on the cover Of Dave Campbell's Texas.

(01:08:51):
Football the recruiting is top, notch and by the, way

i want to thank everybody that wished me a happy birthday.
YESTERDAY i had over one hundred and it.

Speaker 2 (01:11:35):
Was very difficult for me to respond to, everybody including
my Girl.

Speaker 1 (01:11:40):
Jazzy don't try to save it that no no.

Speaker 2 (01:11:42):
NO i sent the message with your, dad so he
has a message for.

Speaker 4 (01:11:48):
You, yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:11:50):
EXACTLY i wanted to talk about this too because the
series now is In. Indiana The Indiana pacers are city
at a two to one league game four tonight seven.
Thirty BUT i want you to hear HOW sga said
that the team handled him in a way that he
was able to turn the ball over as many times

(01:12:12):
as he.

Speaker 14 (01:12:13):
Did, yeah they were. Aggressive they were they were hiring
the pick and. Rolls they really were just Like courts,
said more, aggressive more. Forceful, yeah we gotta starts with,
me but we gotta apply that pressure, back especially when

(01:12:34):
to beat a team like that on the, road you
gotta be the more forceful team for.

Speaker 1 (01:12:37):
Sure and by being more, aggressive what he means is
when they coming off that that pick and, roll because
they do a lot of picking pop and they roll
off of. That but his shot is the mid range.
Shot he gonna knock that. Down but when they were coming,
off they were hedging at the top of that, screen
and normally he could split, them but they're splits were

(01:12:57):
a lot. Closer they could have done cut it so
they couldn't Get they also.

Speaker 2 (01:13:01):
Worked with their off hand when they come around those.
Screens they already had a hand in his. Face and
it was good defensive. Strategy and And i'm gonna tell
you something hard and YOU i keep bringing this to
you like you you said you was talking about The
knicks coach being.

Speaker 4 (01:13:17):
Fired he did not make adjustments like.

Speaker 2 (01:13:20):
That he allowed cars in towns to be caught up
in that switch and have to go and he called
at the, times went underneath the screen every, time and
they got lit.

Speaker 1 (01:13:31):
Up and you have to make the.

Speaker 2 (01:13:34):
Adjustments and that's why he really because he didn't make
the proper adjustments is what got him. Fired it wasn't
the fact, that, yes the last five years he's done.
Wonderful he did wonderful for The New York. Knicks But
i'm watching these. Games they played three games and there
have been instantaneous coaching changes in each, game and you

(01:13:59):
have to do it.

Speaker 1 (01:14:01):
Like on the spot out of. Halftime what is the?
Answer did you come up with the. Answer i'm telling
you right. NOW i know you're gonna stick by. That
you're gonna believe that that was the believe. It But
i'm just gonna tell you right. Now the thing that
changes for me when it comes to that that coaching

(01:14:21):
staff and what's happening with. That they still can't find a.
Coach Bro, no they.

Speaker 4 (01:14:26):
Can't they've been denied by.

Speaker 1 (01:14:27):
Everybody so therefore they they're gonna need to because they
have made the mistake of not being able to to
uh accept the fact that that is what's going on with. Them,
well everybody's denying the fact that they want their coach
to go To New york Like i'm If i'm the
coach At.

Speaker 2 (01:14:46):
Houston i'm the owner At. Houston, NO i don't want
my coach to be.

Speaker 1 (01:14:50):
Interviewed i'm just telling, you, dude nobody's gonna let their
coaches be. Interviewed and they should have thought about second
round for my. Coach they should have thought about. That
they should have thought about that before they fired a
coach that helped you get to The Semi Eastern conference
finals and the fact that he gave them the two

(01:15:11):
best seasons that they've had.

Speaker 4 (01:15:13):
