(01:02):
of longhorns. Joe Cook of Inside Texas at on three

That's the word Texas, follow by your message to eight
one five three zero.

Speaker 4 (01:45):
Standard data and message rates do apply.

Speaker 1 (01:48):
Also, make sure you get over to voice your opinion
or leave us some message. But the only way you
can do that is downloading that new and improved iHeartRadio
app and using that talkback feature where you can talk

a chance to win a pair of tickets today. We
are ready for the football season and it can't get

(02:08):
here fast enough. As we said, we are twenty five
days away from the start of the footballs HEAs for
the University of Texas, and we get all excited and
then the news comes out yesterday that Texas is dealing
with an injury and the injury is to an offensive

(02:31):
lineman Andre Kojo. He is somebody that was going to
be an integral part. Was competing very hard to get
a starting position in that offensive line. But now the
unfortunate lose is that the young offensive tackle suffered a
season ending injury of an acl And of course you're

(02:54):
obviously gonna be impacted on that offensive line because the
one thing that we always talk about when it comes
to the offensive line mark is the depth chart.

Speaker 4 (03:04):
You gotta be able to build that depth chart.

Speaker 1 (03:06):
And getting a blow like this to a young man
who was promising, he was up and coming and he
was going to be, as I said, an integral part
of the success. Because if you remember anything, the reason
why everybody's so high on Trevor Gouseby is because they
got a chance to see what he did last year
to come in and play not just left to due

(03:30):
to an injury, playing left tackle and right tackle and
showed some versatility.

Speaker 4 (03:35):
And now you.

Speaker 1 (03:36):
Look at this team and you're like, Okay, that's why
you go out and recruit.

Speaker 4 (03:40):
All these big men.

Speaker 1 (03:41):
That's why you go out and recruit the players that
you're looking at, Like Brandon Baker was being pushed by Kojo,
But now you got to start moving around some guys.
Now you say coach has been cross training some of
these guys. We hear it all the time, they talk
about cross training. This is the time that we get
to see what this training is all about.

Speaker 2 (04:01):
These guys have been in the system for two years
some of them, so you know, the young guys Brooks
and so forth. I can still see them, you know,
doing some quality work.

Speaker 4 (04:13):
But Texas, the cupboard is not there.

Speaker 2 (04:16):
No, So I mean, like, it's unfortunate, very that this
young man is going to miss the season because I
had high hopes for him because of his aggressive nature.
And he's going to be on the bench telling these
guys come on, man, let's go. He's going to be
that guy that this system is geared towards motivating the

(04:40):
guy behind you to be the guy in front of you.

Speaker 1 (04:43):
So it's just next man up situation slick right there, Mark.
I like that. I like the way you put that.
You know, Yeah, they pay me to do this, lots
of That's why I do. He's for lots of fine.
But yes, it's a very definitely. You sit there and
you think about how this team is kind of developed

(05:04):
along the way, and those are some of the things
that we continue to try to grow from with this
football team. Yes, you brought up the fact that a
lot of these guys have been in the program for
quite some time. There's some young pupps that are in
there that are making some noise too. But again, this
is why they cross trained so many guys all season long,
because you never know when we have to move some

(05:25):
guys around to be able to fill those voids. So
this is going to be a true test, especially early
in the season. And speaking of early in the season,
Texas preseason number one for the first time ever in
the Coach's poll. Multiple polls are out there. Obviously the
coaches poll, they believe a lot in Texas from what

(05:46):
they saw, what they're returning with and the fact of
the arch Manning effect that everybody else is dealing with.

Speaker 4 (05:52):
That. I push my.

Speaker 1 (05:52):
Chips to the front of the table now to get
behind that push.

Speaker 4 (05:57):
But I also look at this mark.

Speaker 1 (05:58):
You know, when you get the respect of your peers,
you're coaching peers. You look at Texas, Texas is sitting
at the number one spot.

Speaker 4 (06:07):
You know who's number two?

Speaker 1 (06:09):
Ohio State, the national champion Ohio State Buck guys I said,
this is the first time that Texas has ever been
ranked number one in the Coach's poll in the preseason poll.
But this is the first time that you will have
number one versus number two in the first game of
the season as well. So we're in for some new heights,
so to speak. You know, when Vince Young and the

(06:34):
Texas Longhorns went into Ohio State early in the season,
they weren't one and two, but it was a big
time matchup. It was a prime time matchup. We're getting
the matchup. But can you consider prime time New? Can
you consider prime time eleven am? It's the big new
kickoff fi.

Speaker 2 (06:54):
It's not about the time, it's about the content that
you put at that time. Yeah, and number one versus
number two is prime time.

Speaker 4 (07:03):
Nobody's going to.

Speaker 2 (07:04):
Be watching State versus Mississippi Valley Man, why you do
them like that?

Speaker 1 (07:10):
They deserve it might watch them you won't recorded recorded. Yeah,
this is this.

Speaker 2 (07:21):
Is a big game, man, This this this could inside
Who is going to be the team to watch in
the in the playoffs?

Speaker 4 (07:30):
It's right, it's a driver's sea. Like you you know,
you tell all the scouts.

Speaker 2 (07:36):
I would tell all my players, Hey, guys, before we
get to practice this week, I just want to let
y'all know, there's never going to be a magnifying glass
bigger than the one that's gonna be honest this week.
But if you are not known, we got guys on
the team that's, you know, potential all conference players, but

(08:00):
there's a lot of y'all they don't know.

Speaker 4 (08:02):
Make them know you, but.

Speaker 2 (08:04):
Like you, you got to motivate them from the inside outwards.
That's what great athletes have been able to do, is
to internalize the situation. And Texas is in a place
where the four calls that coach Sark made last year
against them, they were four plays away from winning that game. Yep,

(08:26):
don't let four players decide I want a ten point cushion.
I'm saying Texas can like beat them, like whoop them.
That's what you have to do in a game like this. Yes,
it's gonna get close at times, but what are you
gonna do to separate that gap? And it's it's up

(08:48):
to them because if I'm if I'm a guy that's
on the second team, I'm a guy that's gonna get
sparing minutes. I'm gonna man, they're gonna give me the
ball maybe once or twice. You've got to. It's to
be the most memorable two carries of your life. Our
catches are plays.

Speaker 1 (09:06):
In a positive fashion, Yes, in a positive fashion.

Speaker 4 (09:09):
Well Texas.

Speaker 1 (09:10):
Who has a preseason poll comes out in Texas and
the coaches poll number one team Ohio State number two,
Penn State number three, Georgia number four, and Notre Dame
round out the top five.

Speaker 4 (09:23):
Here's Texas.

Speaker 1 (09:25):
Here's who Texas will face as the preseason poll sits today.
Texas will face number two Ohio State August the thirtieth.
They will take on Georgia August I mean number four
ranked Georgia Georgia November the fifteenth, they will take on
number seventeen Florida October the fourth, and then they will

(09:48):
take on They will host Texas A and M, who
is ranked number twenty one as we speak today, November
the twenty eighth. So as of right now, the preseason
polls have Texas playing four teams that are in the
top twenty five as we sit here today. You can't
beat that. I mean, you got to play who's on

(10:09):
your schedule. But I appreciate the fact that these other teams.

Speaker 2 (10:12):
But I don't want I want to hear that hard
that you know, Oh well they don't play anybody.

Speaker 4 (10:17):
Listen, you play who's on your schedule?

Speaker 2 (10:19):
Yep, and there's what three or four other SEC teams
they're gonna have to play.

Speaker 4 (10:26):
They don't count for nothing, they do, So let's go.

Speaker 1 (10:30):
Yeah, tired of hearing all the mumbo jumbo about Texas.

Speaker 4 (10:35):
Not every year they changed, they moved the god post.
Oh well they are. Their schedule sucks.

Speaker 2 (10:42):
They're not playing any quality teams, you know, the top
end teams. They didn't play LSU, they didn't play I
don't want to hear it.

Speaker 4 (10:52):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (10:52):
Well, to round it out, you start to look at
the SEC. You got Texas number one, Georgia number four,
You have Alabama at eight, LSU nine, you got the
South Carolina at thirteen, Ole miss fifteen, Florida seventeen, Tennessee
only team. I'm scared of South Carolina. Well, we don't
play them, so we're good, thank god. But while the

(11:14):
team that most people think that Texas will not farewell
against is Florida. Because DJ Lagway didn't play, lost Wag
is gonna be running for his life, I hope. So
We're just getting started here on text Tuesday edition.

Speaker 4 (11:29):
Of The Morning Kickoff.

Speaker 1 (11:30):
Coming up next, Texas players are on the watch list,
and we have the list and I'll get Mark's thoughts.
We have Joe Cook coming up at seven thirty four,
and don't forget Donald Rollins, comedian will be joining us
at eight A. It's a funny, funny Tuesday on a
Texas Tuesday edition of The Morning Kickoff right here on
sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone. You just heard

(11:54):
it as bud Lights count down to kickoff.

Speaker 4 (11:57):
Not only is the bud Lights.

Speaker 1 (11:58):
Count down to kickoff, we are twenty five days jam
Charles Romance Taylor when he goes word as well. So
a lot of good numbers are twenty five that have
done some things on the forty acres twenty five days
until Texas takes on Ohio State at the Horseshoe in Columbus, Ohio.

(12:22):
Before I get into this Texas watch list, we talked
about countdowns. It's also the countdown for the teachers. The
teachers are already back at work and we at iHeartRadio
and AM thirteen hundred design want to take a moment
to recognize a couple of teachers here in the Austin area.

(12:43):
As you know, teachers are the lifeblood for what our
kids go through every single day. Yes, it's important to
have our parents at home, but it's also important for
them to be around great teachers. And we're going to
start here in Austin with Morgan mihan Klin at Wayside
Science Tech Middle School. She is being recognized for the

(13:06):
things that she does at this school. Mac McDermott also
from Wayside Science Tech Middle School and High School, and
Margaret Medina Oliverez at copper Field Elementary School. They are
doing so many things for these young kids. Copperfield is

(13:26):
in Flugerville, Texas.

Speaker 4 (13:28):
She sparks the.

Speaker 1 (13:29):
Community Community Driven Projects College Shirt Wednesday initiatives. She's been
requesting donated university shirts for the kids that can participate
in it. She's also giving out gift cards for families
during the pandemic. All just help support those kids that
are in need. So a special shout out to all

(13:52):
those teachers as well.

Speaker 2 (13:53):
Shout out, excuse me, shut out to all the teachers
out there. And I know there's a lot of y'all
are doing things that you pay for, those that stuff
out of your own pockets a lot of them. And
I appreciate you because both of my kids have benefited
from the fact that they had teachers that loved and
cared about the kids, not always individually, but collectively.

Speaker 4 (14:16):
And you know, it's a special place in heaven for
you guys.

Speaker 1 (14:19):
Yup, no doubt, because I already know how them kids are. Man, good,
good man. I want to beat my own up sometimes.
Kidding folks. Yeah, speaking up, comedian, don't forget set your
alarms now for eight o'clock as we will have Donald
Rollins talking to us all things comedy, and of course

(14:42):
we're gonna try to talk about his teams as well,
see what his thoughts are coming up to the season.
But speaking of the season, we're talking a lot about
the Texas Longhorns, and being on the watch list is
just that it's kind of like the preseason Paul, right,
you're ran recognize you're excited about it, but you got

(15:03):
the work to do, and a lot of the work
was done last year for you to even be put
on this list. So I'm gonna go through this list
of a couple of players that are on these watch lists,
and I think it's important to understand that some of
these guys could definitely win it. Anthony Hill junior, junior, sophomore,

(15:25):
Arch Manning sophomore, and rusher Colin Simmons were named to
the Walter Camp National Player of the Year preseason watch list,
and the foundation announced that on Monday. Texas leads the
nation with three selections this year to even be put
on the watch list. The Walter Camp is the nation's

(15:46):
fourth oldest individual college football accolade and it's presented annually
to the college football's best player. Some notables that have
won it for the University of Texas Ricky Williams and
Colt McCoy. Texas has had back to back semi.

Speaker 4 (16:02):
Finalists after.

Speaker 1 (16:06):
Quinn Yours was named to the list in twenty twenty
four all you Haters out there, and in twenty twenty
three to and Andre Sweat was selected as a semi
final list. If I had to pick somebody today, I
would pick Colin Simmons to be that guy.

Speaker 4 (16:21):
I'm all on, I'm all in.

Speaker 1 (16:23):
With Anthony Hill junior that's just about to say that's
my guy.

Speaker 2 (16:26):
I think that Colin Simmons is going to have a
bigger year than Anthony Hill.

Speaker 1 (16:31):
I think so because he's closer to the quarterback, he's
of course closer to the quarterback. I think between them two,
I think we get twenty sacks.

Speaker 4 (16:41):
Oh yeah, I'm all about that. And the reason why
why number one? Because Umber one there, ye is there
is So you look at that arch.

Speaker 1 (16:49):
Manning obviously is getting a lot of the hype's Heisman
Trophy final candidate. There's so many other things that are
in there. But looking at these two defenders, because I
think Texas defense it's gonna be huge this year. I
think they're they're gonna be an integral part of the
success of this football team.

Speaker 2 (17:05):
Do you think that it was Jedi mind tricks by
the coaches saying that, uh, the only well not of weakness,
but the thing that Anthony needs to work on the
most is his middle coverage.

Speaker 1 (17:19):
No, I think it's I think it's true number one
And it's always what can I do to enhance my game?

Speaker 4 (17:27):
Every year?

Speaker 1 (17:28):
So when people tell you, Mark you can't you need
to improve on this, what.

Speaker 4 (17:32):
You're gonna do, You're gonna go. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (17:34):
So I don't think it's a bad thing. I don't
think it's a Jedi mind trick. It's hey, you are
an elite player, But how do we get you even?
We gotta get more from So let's let's say he
gets three inceptions and a couple of deflections, you know,
throughout the season, and he ups that.

Speaker 4 (17:54):
You mean you're.

Speaker 2 (17:55):
Still gonna stick to the fact that you think that
Colin Simmons will still outweigh him.

Speaker 1 (18:01):
Well, I mean, don't, don't. This is before the season starts.
The things will change all the way through. So I mean,
this is and who messed with my chair?

Speaker 4 (18:12):
Come out? Come out? What you mean? This is crazy?

Speaker 1 (18:16):
If he does all those things, yes, he will obviously
get in front of Colin Simmons.

Speaker 4 (18:21):
Why am I shorter than you?

Speaker 1 (18:23):
I mean that sounds like a personal issue. Man, That
sounds like a personal issue.

Speaker 2 (18:28):
All y'all I heard people coming in here and using
the studio.

Speaker 4 (18:32):
Put my chair back the way? I mean, it's his
name on the back. That's my chair. Maybe it was
the chair number one. Maybe it was the chair in
the back behind you. Yeah, maybe that's your chair. How
about that? How about maybe.

Speaker 1 (18:45):
They moved your chair because they didn't want to sit
in your chair.

Speaker 4 (18:47):
Don't move my chair? You here moving face? They sitting
there looking out for you. You just complain.

Speaker 1 (18:53):
Yeah, yeah, Marcus. So yeah, see, I like Marcus. He
got logic, he got lodging. That's what they call. So
where do I Where do I land? So to answer
your question because you said I didn't answer it. If
those things take place, then obviously he's gonna be in

(19:14):
the front of.

Speaker 4 (19:15):
There you go the bus.

Speaker 2 (19:16):
But I think he will because you challenge somebody that
caused themselves.

Speaker 1 (19:20):
Number one, that's not a challenge. That's what I'm saying.
I'm about to be that dude.

Speaker 4 (19:24):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (19:24):
So I think he's going to follow up on what
he was told to work on this number one. Norman
Watkins was all about that. You know, he liked what
he heard from him, because that's what it's all. That's
what it is. So in addition to the Walter Camp
National Player of the Year Award, Anthony Hill was on
the preseason watch list for the Buckets Award, the Nargowski

(19:46):
Nargirsky Award, and the Lot Impact Trophy Award as well.
Our punter Bowmeaster is the Ray Guy watch list finalists,
not f but he's on the watch list, and that
is for the nation's top punter. Mason Shipley is on
the Lou Gorse Rosa Award for the top place kicker.

(20:09):
Michael taff is on the All State Warful Trophy watch list,
and that is for the best student athlete that outperforms
on the football field but also serves as community and
creates positive change.

Speaker 4 (20:22):
We already know that solid.

Speaker 1 (20:25):
And when we've got a chance to talk to Emmanuel
I mean not a manual excuse me, sam Acho. At
the SEC media days, Craig Way and I got a
chance to sit down and spend some time with him.
He was on point about that why they do that?
Why is he on that list? Well, you know he
had the tie with all the kids from the Mystic

(20:46):
Camp with the unfortunate flooding, unfortunate flooding that happened in
Kerrville in Kirk County, So shout out to him. Lafoul
is on the Butt kiss A watch list, as well
as Anthony Jr. Muhammet taff are on the Thorpe Award list,
the one that Jahday Barron won last year for the

(21:07):
nation's best defensive back.

Speaker 4 (21:09):
The Outlet Award Trophy.

Speaker 1 (21:12):
DJ Campbell's on that list to and Andre Sweat and
Kelvin Banks wanted.

Speaker 4 (21:16):
Him back to back years.

Speaker 1 (21:18):
As I said with Michael taff, Colin Simmons and Anthony
Hill are Ongirsky Watch List. That is a big award
for the nation's top defensive player. And we also have
Arch Manning and Trey Wisner tabbed as the Maxwell Award finalists.

(21:39):
So these guys are in the mix, and there's a
lot of.

Speaker 4 (21:43):
Talent that is out there.

Speaker 1 (21:44):
But who would be the one that might pop up
that we haven't been talking about.

Speaker 4 (21:48):
We'll talk about it coming up next.

Speaker 1 (21:50):
We got our guy Joe Cook of Inside Texas. We'll
talk to him about Texas being number one on the preseason, Paul,
the injuries to Kojo, and of course who's a name
that has been popping up over at Inside Texas. Right
here on a Texas Tuesday edition of The Morning Kickoff
on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone. Welcome back

(22:12):
to the Morning Kickoff right here on Sports Radio AM
thirteen hundred The Zone. Make sure you're locked in at
eight am if as. We will have Donald Rollings joining
us to have a little bit of laughs early in
the morning, but we're gonna have some serious talk with
my guy, Joe Cook of Inside Texas. You can make
sure you follow them at Joseph Cook eighty nine. Good morning, Joe,

(22:37):
and the news out of the forty acres with the
injury is not good news to start off the week.

Speaker 5 (22:45):
Yeah, yesterday heard Andre Kojo most likely towards ACL. We'll
hear from, we should hear from Steve Starkesian today. I
believe to get confirmation from the program for that. But
at least what was I don't want to say a
precarious tackle situation, but you know, if you're listing concerns
on your team, one of them is just depth to

(23:08):
tackle definitely removes a guy from there and puts a
lot of pressure on Brandon Baker to not only be
the guy, but be the guy and be ready to
go week one. That was his main competition in Kojo.
I know Nick Brooks and Jade and Chapman at had
some good practices of late, but you know, left tackle
is going to be Trevor Guseby and sounds like right

(23:29):
tackle is going to be Brandon Baker and wake of
Kojo's injury, Yeah.

Speaker 1 (23:32):
It was kind of one of those situations where we
were doing our little look across the depth chart and
the biggest question coming into the season was about this
offensive line, not that they didn't think they were going
to be good, but they were unproven.

Speaker 4 (23:47):
Yes, they've been in the system, but they.

Speaker 1 (23:49):
Hadn't had a chance to really jail as a unit yet.
So let me ask you this, I really want to
understand how this goes down, because as you look at
this football team right now, they talk a lot on
the offensive line and multiple positions about cross training. If
there is a person that has been cross training that

(24:10):
could be the backup to Brandon Baker who moves into
that spot.

Speaker 5 (24:15):
Yeah, I think with cross training, you know that it's
very valuable to have guys who can play the multiple positions.
But I also think at the end of the day,
like you have to be able to play tackle. You know,
you're not putting the six foot two guy out there
unless he has the best footwork ever, So you know
that's the guys that they've trained to tackle, like I said,

(24:38):
include Jade and Chatman. He's someone that does kind of
have that capability to move up and down the line,
but he's got the length at about six foot four,
a little taller in that and as you know, the
experience to be able to do that. Nick Brooks the
true freshman. That's someone who's going to become a lot
more important. And he had a great you know, aside.

Speaker 4 (24:57):
From a little run in with law enforcement, he had.

Speaker 5 (25:00):
A great first few months on campus for what he
did on the field, and by all accounts, he's done
everything since that that run in to do things right.
But you know, I bet there's going to be some
sort of internal punishment to keep him off the field,
maybe in the first game or first couple of weeks
or so, if I had to make my guess at it.
So but just to you know, keep going, if they

(25:22):
needed a tackle, you'd probably look at Jaden Chapman and
Nick Brooks, and you know, I think if things got
worse than that, and then you know, you're you're maybe
thinking about, Okay, Kennell Cole Hudson, maybe even play that position,
just because you know, when you look at the rest
of that line, not a lot of those guys have
either tackled feet or tackle size, and we're in a pinch.
You know, it may not matter, but I think Chapman

(25:45):
becomes a lot more important as camp goes on.

Speaker 2 (25:47):
Well, you got two guys Coleman and Chapman who are
six seven, three fifty. I mean, they're super large humans
and I know their experiences though, But out of those two,
who do you think is more suited for right now
rather than later.

Speaker 5 (26:07):
Yeah, I think with either of the Coleman's they are
going to be a little bit of ways away, but
they've done some great work here in their first summer
to you know, start getting their bodies college ready.

Speaker 4 (26:17):
But definitely Chatman.

Speaker 5 (26:18):
And I think one of the things that's maybe lost
about Chatman is that, for as rare as it was
that Texas used like they're big, heavy, bring it all,
the big body goal line set last year, he was
on that team or on that personnel unit. And you know,
they had used that six to zero lineman package in
years past with guys like Mali Gogbo and Andre Dakarich.

(26:43):
They didn't use it much last year, but when they did,
it was Jade Chatman.

Speaker 4 (26:46):
So this this is someone that they do have trust in.

Speaker 5 (26:49):
There may be five, there may have been five offensive
linemen ahead of him for most of these past couple
of years, but it's someone they do have belief in.
And I think that's the experienced play that they're going
to look at and say, you know what, if worse comes,
the worse, you're you're getting in there number seventy five.

Speaker 4 (27:06):
Yeah, that's kind of crazy.

Speaker 1 (27:07):
We're talking to Joe Cook of Inside Texas and on
three you can follow him at Joseph Joseph Cook eighty nine.
And Joe, I saw your report yesterday that this is
the first time that Texas has ever been ranked number
one in the coaches poll, in the preseason coaches poll,
and they get a chance to avenge the loss to

(27:29):
Ohio State, which now is the number two team in
the preseason poll. How much of a big deal is
this to start the season. Obviously, I understand it's not
how you start, it's how you finish. But this is
a big accomplishment for this Texas team.

Speaker 5 (27:46):
Yeah, it's it's always nice to make history like this, right,
you know in Steve Sarkisian, I'm sure he put that
on the power point and said, Okay, let's keep going.
But he made a good point a couple of weeks ago.
And as much as we focus in on college football,
and it kind of defines so much of what we do,

(28:07):
believe it or not, there are other people who are
not like that. But the preseason poll comes out and
it gets people talking. It gets people who maybe you know,
aren't college football die hards, thinking a little bit more
about the season. And when those people look at it,
they're going to see Texas number one, and then the
die hards are going to see Texas number one in
Ohio State number two and see that on the schedule

(28:28):
and realize, Okay, we got a heck of a match
up here in week one to start the season off.
So obviously a positive thing. It's almost just surprising that Texas,
in either poll, the AP or the coaches has never
been a preseason number one. They've been number two a
handful of times, but never number one.

Speaker 4 (28:49):
And one thing I think, you know, I.

Speaker 5 (28:51):
Don't trust that the head coaches of all sixty seven voters,
you know, did this all themselves, but I think it
does illustrate that there is kind of a little depression
at the top as far as kind of pushing talent down.
He had twenty eight first place posts for Texas, twenty
for Ohio State, and I think it was Penn State,

(29:12):
Georgia and Clemson got the remaining ones. Usually, looking back,
these are all kind of they usually focus in one
spot with one team maybe getting forty or fifty and
then a few others spread out. But with twenty eight
going to Texas, twenty going to Ohio State, that kind
of shows and you know, three other teams getting first
place votes kind of shows that there's a just around

(29:33):
the sport, a little bit more spreading out of talent,
and that the era of the truly dominant team may
be done.

Speaker 2 (29:39):
Joe Quickly the defense of We've all a lot offense,
Anthony Hill, Colin Simmons off the charts. A lot of
people have been saying that Cole Blevard has been balling,
Like what is your word on Cole?

Speaker 5 (29:58):
Yeah, we've got some notes overn inside Texas to check out.
I need to piece through him again because they were
posted late last night when we got the info. But
as far as we know, Colbervard, that's someone who you
look at and you think, all right, there's your nose tackle.
That's probably what he's going to be doing a lot of.
But Kenny Baker had mentioned, I think a few weeks ago,
that hey, we got to be able to make this

(30:19):
guy versatile.

Speaker 4 (30:19):
You know, I'm not gonna put him out at defensive end.
But at the same time. We got to be able
to make.

Speaker 5 (30:23):
Him do multiple things and not just be a nose,
especially for his future, and he's taken to that very
well by all accounts. When you're six three three forty five,
you're gonna have some advantages. And I remember going back
when I talked to some people who had covered him
and written about him at Purdue, they were.

Speaker 4 (30:42):
Sad to see him go.

Speaker 5 (30:43):
I guess from the, you know, obviously a good defensive
player perspective, but they really liked his mental makeup and
what he brought to the field. So right now he's
probably in what's going to be a hockey line defensive
tackle deployment with three different lines maybe coming at your
three different duos. It will probably be in that second one,
but that still probably means it'll get about twenty five

(31:04):
to thirty snaps a game on average.

Speaker 1 (31:06):
There he is Joe Cook of Inside Texas and on
three make sure you get over and follow him at
Joseph Cook eighty nine.

Speaker 4 (31:15):
Great stuff. As always, my brother, I appreciate you, gentlemen.
Thank y'all. As always, all right.

Speaker 1 (31:21):
There is Joe Cook of Inside Texas coming up next.
We're gonna take it to the NFL Cleveland Browns have
released their depth chart and Jerry, is this a real offer?
We'll talk about it right here on the morning kickoff
on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred the zomb Great stuff
from our guy Joe Cooks of Inside Texas. Make sure

(31:42):

Make sure you listen all week for a chance to

(32:42):
and all things Texas Longhorns right here on AM thirteen
hundred to Zone and always free on the iHeartRadio app mark.
We talked a little bit at the beginning of the season.

Speaker 4 (32:52):
About the Cleveland Browns.

Speaker 1 (32:54):
Actually we talked a lot about it after they made
the decision to draft Dylan Gabriel in Shader Sanders Chardoor Sanders,
a late round draft pick. Well, yesterday they decided, hey,
you know what, we're going to release our depth chart
because they're getting ready to play football this week. And
the depth chart goes Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, Dylan Gabriel,

(33:17):
and Shouder Sanders to and don't forget they do have
Deshaun Watson on the injured reserve list right now. Well,
you know what, they said, we don't have enough quarterbacks
in camp, so they went out and signed Tyler Hutley
as well yesterday. So now the Cleveland Browns have now

(33:38):
become the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. When John Gruden was there
and he kept just bringing in quarterbacks to bring in quarterbacks.
What do you think about the initial depth chart that
was released by the Cleveland Browns. I think that Cleveland
has got a lot to figure out because they're not
thinking with with the talent that they have.

Speaker 4 (33:59):
They're thinking the money and the purse springs extremes.

Speaker 2 (34:03):
Like let the guys that are grit, really good play
regardless of.

Speaker 4 (34:08):
Their political.

Speaker 2 (34:11):
Standing, because that's what's going on right now, and that's
why they're gonna lose.

Speaker 4 (34:16):
What do you mean political standing?

Speaker 2 (34:18):
They got a quarterback situation where they know who the
best quarterback is, but they won't let the best quarterback
play because of the situation. They have a cornerback issue
with the cornerbacks. He makes so much money that they
have to play, and they have another guy that's just
as good, he just.

Speaker 4 (34:34):
Don't get paid a lot.

Speaker 2 (34:36):
And defensive line outside of Miles Garrett, which one of
those guys are gonna step up because they they're in
the same boat. They're trying to play. That's why they
paid play the John Watson anyway when he was injured,
because well, we paid him a lot of money. You
gotta get rid of that philosophy. That's horrible. They're gonna lose.

(34:58):
And if I was on, I was a player that
my contract was up, I would not resign with them.

Speaker 4 (35:04):
I don't care how much they offered me.

Speaker 2 (35:06):
Okay, maybe I mean team they're not bad.

Speaker 4 (35:12):
Like if you look at David.

Speaker 2 (35:13):
And just have to quit thinking with the purse strings hard,
just play the best guys.

Speaker 4 (35:20):
How simple is that?

Speaker 2 (35:21):
Well, and if the guy that gets mad and says
I'm gonna take my ball and go home, trade them,
you always say Mark, you always trying to trade him.

Speaker 1 (35:30):
Trading somebody again, like you are trading bro everybody.

Speaker 2 (35:34):
I'm trying to make everybody happy, including myself.

Speaker 4 (35:37):
If you are not happy on my team.

Speaker 2 (35:39):
Goodbye, beat it, tell your story, walking, say it down
the road, whatever term you want to use.

Speaker 1 (35:48):
Wow, okay, all right, because I yeah, all right, I'm
gonna let you.

Speaker 4 (35:54):
Have that one. I'm hard to argue with good sanity. No,
I think.

Speaker 1 (35:58):
You've been a little harsh because his team is not bad.
Like if you look at their roster, they have playmakers.
If you look at their offensive line, they have a
good offensive line. Their defense is not as bad as
you're making them out to be.

Speaker 4 (36:15):
Besides Miles Garrett, they went and got Devin Bush. They
got the.

Speaker 1 (36:18):
First round pick, Mason Graham. They got Malik Collins, who
is a beast up front. They got Denzel Ward at
why I mean at defensive back, and Grant Delpit at
strong safety. Greg News from the second who is a monster.

Speaker 2 (36:33):
Greg instrument is awesome and he needs to play more reps.
He's the starting corner at right corner. He's the starter.

Speaker 1 (36:41):
And then they got they brought in a couple other guys,
so I'm curious to that. But before we go to
Donnelle Rollins at the top of the hour, don't want
to miss that one, and get over to our YouTube
page as well in Twitter x whatever you want to
call it, and Facebook to watch it. I want to
hear from Jerry Jones and the thought about the contract,

(37:03):
of the expectations of what they were offering and is
this true. Mark, Well, it's just that you've seen it
so often and you've sent it with other clubs. You
go through the process. It's of highly since stive time.

(37:24):
When you're guaranteeing somebody almost two hundred million dollars, that's
interesting stuff. It's interesting to me that he brings up
the two hundred million dollars because it's not necessarily the
number you're not guaranteeing. You can guarantee probably one hundred
and fifty. You can guarantee Michael Parsons one hundred and
twenty five million. I think the problem is the fact

(37:45):
that you always draw this out to the ire of
your fan base is something that is the annoying part
of it. We talked about it yesterday. It is the
days of our lives. Every single day it is Dallas
the soap opera with JR ew and and Jerry playing JR.
And everybody's trying to figure out what's happening to JR.

(38:05):
The problem is get your business done where it doesn't
have to distract from what you're trying to do that
on the field exactly. And I'll ask you on the field,
and I see.

Speaker 2 (38:16):
Jerry's situation technically and legally he has Michael Partsons locked
up for three more years. Split the difference, Hey, Michaeh,
I don't want to talk to you, lawyer.

Speaker 4 (38:29):
Let's split the difference.

Speaker 2 (38:30):
We play your top ten, top five money for the
next two years, and that last year we keep it
the same.

Speaker 4 (38:37):
Man do something.

Speaker 1 (38:38):
They're gonna have to figure something out, figure it out.
They're gonna have to figure something out.

Speaker 4 (38:42):
Coming up next, you're all ready to live. Let's live
our man. Donald Rollins joins us right here on a.

Speaker 1 (38:50):
Texas Tuesday edition of The Morning Kickoff right here on
Sports Radio.

Speaker 4 (38:54):
Hey, I'm thirteen hundred the Zone.

Speaker 1 (38:57):
Welcome back to our number two of the More Kickoff,
twenty five days away from the beginning of the college
football season for your Texas Longhorns. We started the show
talking about Texas being ranked number one in the preseason
poll for the first time in school history by the

(39:18):
Coaches Poll. But we also had some sad news we
were waiting to confirm from the University of Texas, but
on Texas Sports on Texas Football Excuse Me was the
first to report the knee injury to Alex Kojo as
he is out for the regular season. We also did
the watch list for the Texas Longhorns players.

Speaker 4 (39:41):
They are all over the place.

Speaker 1 (39:43):
And we also got a chance to talk to Joe
Cook of Inside Texas. We're efforting Donald Rollings so he
can come on and talk about his time at the
Mothership that will take place this week. But we also
talked about the NFL and what we saw from the

(40:03):
Cleveland Browns as they released their depth chart, but they
also brought in another quarterback in Tyler Hutley, and Mark
expressed his feelings.

Speaker 2 (40:12):
But before we left, why would you bring in another quarterback?
And I'm gonna tell you why. Huntley is always in
the system for the Ravens because he understands this system.
He fits the system. Well, this is advancement by subtraction.

Speaker 1 (40:29):
You don't want other people to get the good players,
especially in a case of need.

Speaker 2 (40:36):
So somebody wanted Huntley and he was They were like, nah,
we're gonna take that. We can't let them have him.

Speaker 1 (40:42):
Well Hully was that Hully was part of the Miami
Dolphins last year. Did not fit their system whatsoever. Right,
But again to your point, why are you getting him?
You got five quarterbacks on the roster. It doesn't make sense,
and you're not gonna get better by bringing him in
because now you're taking reps away from somebody else.

Speaker 2 (41:02):
Him and Picket or both of them don't fit that system.
Why would you bring in two quarters to keep other
people from happening. That's the only other reason that I
can think of.

Speaker 1 (41:11):
But I don't think those are two people that people
are knocking down the door to go. They're not knocking
down the door. But there's other teams that they play
that need that. Yeah, well we'll see what they had,
they had the cap room to do it. We'll see
what ends up happening in those particular moments. But right
now we are being joined by one of the funniest

(41:33):
brothers that has walked the earth. He has uh, he
came from kung fu. He's done some amazing things. He
is Donald Rollings and Donald, thank you number one for
joining us this morning. I know you're a busy man
and you got a show that it's coming on to Austin,
Texas here this week.

Speaker 4 (41:52):
Right. I don't know who Donald is. I know who
Donelle is, but I don't know.

Speaker 6 (42:00):
Maybe maybe maybe you had Trump on repeat on some
type of stream yesterday.

Speaker 4 (42:06):
Maybe your love for the Mega Party is what he
carried you to say that a K A Ashy.

Speaker 6 (42:14):
Larry a K A album a K A I'm rid
and whatever else you want to say.

Speaker 4 (42:19):
Well, welcome, welcome to the more that kick off with
you now. Man, I'm a grown man.

Speaker 2 (42:26):
Yeah, you can call him mister to me, he is.

Speaker 6 (42:31):
Don't call mister the only time I hear mister is
when somebody about to get to get arrested.

Speaker 4 (42:35):
Mister, please, I don't want to be mister. I just
call me uncle.

Speaker 2 (42:39):
O g Are they gonna ask you for money?

Speaker 4 (42:44):
Excuse me, sir, mister?

Speaker 2 (42:46):
Could I can I interest you in this insurance policy?

Speaker 6 (42:50):
Exactly? There's always gonna be a problem. But thanks for
having me this morning.

Speaker 2 (42:53):
Guys appreciate Can you please like tell us like you're
like you you travel world like coming to Austin. The
comedy scene is starting to blossom and Bud, I can't
believe I said blossoming, but I mean yeah, excuse me,
but how do you like the Mothership as opposed to

(43:15):
other places that you travel to.

Speaker 6 (43:17):
I mean it's like I really like the club and
I mean, and all the credit for that, the vision
of it earth has to go to Joe Rogan. Like
the comedy scene in Los Angeles, and particularly if you
go to the Mothership, you understand that a lot of
it is fashioned or styled behind.

Speaker 4 (43:32):
What he came up with them on the Mothership.

Speaker 6 (43:36):
And a lot of times you have people that open
up comedy clubs, they don't really invest in making the
comics feel good. When I say that, I mean the
green room, the accommodations, how the room is set up,
the sound.

Speaker 4 (43:46):
And lighting and everything.

Speaker 6 (43:47):
So you know, Joe did a great job of creating
a space that everybody feels comfortable. And just to add
to what you're saying about the comedy scene, it really
started to blossom once when the pandemic hit and Joe said, Okay,
I'm leaving California, I'm going to Austin, and with that
bringing some of the biggest names in comedy thom So
gored Is down there. The scene is awesome. It's always

(44:09):
been a good city for music, but right now in
the Mothership.

Speaker 4 (44:13):
I mean, of course, you know I do numbers when
I perform.

Speaker 6 (44:16):
My dude sell out Audis, but people are just so
fascinated with the opportunity to experience what he's built there,
and the scene is off the hook. Austin has always
been one of my favorite so he's performed, especially since
my son is named Austin too, spelled with an E.
But another reason I really enjoyed just coming to Austin
because during the pandemic, you know, I was rocking with

(44:39):
Dave Schappelle a lot. He was doing shows I don't
know how you're in the corn fields. And then we
had a residency at Stubbs, the barbecue place. And when
I tell you, like how a community got connected, how
comics got connected. And I mean we're talking like four
or five years. So my interest in my excitement coming
to Austin especially it was dear for me at a
time when in the world where nobody was doing anything.

(45:01):
It's almost somewhat of a homecoming when I come there.

Speaker 2 (45:04):
Do you like the fact that you can go there
and feel safe because if you want to work on
new material, they take all the phones, they put the
MP system.

Speaker 4 (45:15):
On where you can't get Wi Fi.

Speaker 1 (45:17):
Like what they do, go the extra lens to keep
people from stealing material as well as allowing.

Speaker 4 (45:25):
You to work on stuff.

Speaker 2 (45:26):
Do you use the Mothership as a vehicle to work
on your new material?

Speaker 6 (45:31):
Yeah, but I use every time I go on stage,
I use it as a vehicle to do new material.

Speaker 4 (45:37):
And I know, I know it's something interest about it.

Speaker 6 (45:39):
People recording or whatever, and you're working on stuff. But
at the end of the day, when it comes to
loud performances, you know, somebody could see a funny clip online.
You know what I mean, it could be like a
YouTube short or whatever, but it's still something exciting about
getting dressed up, planning the date night and still experiencing
that live performance. And when it comes to stealing jokes.

Speaker 4 (46:00):
Whatever, I look at it like this.

Speaker 6 (46:01):
I know you know this and ho where people are
really sensitive to that, But I look at it like that,
if it's easy for someone to steal a joke yours,
then that wasn't one of your best jokes, you know,
And it makes you have to go deeper and do
jokes that are reflective of you. People can't steal your
life's your life story. But if you got a joke
about Dinny, if you got a joke about Donald Trump,

(46:22):
it's kind of hard to be super super riginal about
that because everybody's tapping the same subject. And at the
end of the day, it ain't it ain't the joke,
it's who's telling it, you know. Like back in the day,
there was some talking about Robin Williams used to be
a joke thief or whatever, and people hated that because
they knew once he got a hold of joke, it
was his forever.

Speaker 4 (46:42):
He was going to own it.

Speaker 6 (46:44):
But I also look at it like, you know, one
joke isn't gonna make your career. You know, it's just
some sort of some form of flattery when people say
they want to rob you. But you just got to
keep going or do like when I first started, somebody's
stealing your joke, you punch them in the face.

Speaker 4 (46:59):
Let's tell you. I was just thinking that. Yeah, old
school man, Yo, man, you know that's my joke.

Speaker 1 (47:07):
Yeah, Mark Mark, Mark is a violent person in case
you had noticed. You know, it's history, so you know,
Big Bayler gets a little fired up and will put
somebody in the face.

Speaker 4 (47:17):
But I want to get paid to talk about We
gotta take we back.

Speaker 6 (47:20):
We got to take it back to the day when
people were afraid to get.

Speaker 1 (47:27):
Yeah, people did deal with that. We're talking to Donelle Rillins.
He will be coming to the Mothership, uh, coming up
this weekend and eight through the tenth.

Speaker 4 (47:36):
I looked online.

Speaker 1 (47:37):
It looks like the shows are all sold out already.
So as you said, you you got you do numbers
every time you come in there. So me and Mark
gonna have to figure out a way to talk to
Joe and figure out a way to get.

Speaker 4 (47:49):
Up in there. But we'll work something out, but I
do want to wait. Just how you do it? Just
I know how you not? Don't go in?

Speaker 6 (47:55):
You go and say I would have I want to
see Donald today.

Speaker 7 (48:00):
That's the easiest. But you're gonna be like, uh uh,
he already told me, don't let you in, brother, already
let me know.

Speaker 4 (48:11):
So when you come into town, where's the place you
like to go eat? Uh?

Speaker 6 (48:15):
There's this I forgot, man, I can't even say. There's
a couple of players. I know there's just one, like
a very very exclusive sushi bar that does like about
six I forget the name of it. Inside of it
speak easy. Yeah, I definitely got to get some blacks barbecue.
That's what I was, without a doubt, no doubt.

Speaker 4 (48:35):
You know what I'm saying.

Speaker 6 (48:36):
I mean, as much as people love the beef ribs
and everything, but they smoke. Turkey is out of control
over there. So I'm definitely gonna do some barbecue, and
a couple of my friends as restaurants, they usually invite
me down. Again, I don't know exactly the names of it,
but you can't leave Austin without getting some barbecue.

Speaker 4 (48:52):
No doubt, no doubt.

Speaker 1 (48:53):
And let me ask you this because I know you're
a Washington Commander fan.

Speaker 4 (48:57):
I know that's your squad.

Speaker 1 (48:58):
We are Cowboy fans, so we already.

Speaker 4 (49:02):
Man, how long we got to do this? Damn man, I'm.

Speaker 6 (49:12):
Found the way to the bums bums bumms.

Speaker 2 (49:16):
Man.

Speaker 1 (49:17):
But but you have had the upper hand. You guys
have done well. Jaydon Daniels is a beast.

Speaker 4 (49:24):
Y'all.

Speaker 1 (49:24):
Y'all got contract dispute, as do the Cowboys.

Speaker 4 (49:27):
We got contract disputes. Uh.

Speaker 1 (49:29):
But what is your expectations coming into the season, because
it looks like everything is trending upward for the Commanders.

Speaker 6 (49:37):
Let me tell you something, man, I seen this, so
I'm not getting ahead of myself.

Speaker 4 (49:40):
Last year was a great season for us, you know.

Speaker 6 (49:42):
I mean nobody, nobody would have predicted us to be
one game away.

Speaker 4 (49:46):
From the super Bowl. And I know it's still a
building process.

Speaker 6 (49:48):
Even if this team went five hundred this year, I
wouldn't be upset about it because I see the potential
and what we have. I will say, the new ownership
and everything what they've done, because that they and exciting
to go to the games again. It seems like the
team really cares about. You know, a lot of teams
when they start to break down. Everybody just wanted to
have individual efforts. You know what I'm saying, Well, I

(50:11):
got a thousand yards. I did my job, but I
does not have anything to do with a team advancing
that far. So I do look forward to the competitive
nature of the Cowboys and uh, the Commanders. I'm gonna
say Cowboys and Redskins rivalry. That's always something to talk
trash about. And I don't care what happens this year.
As long as the Cowboys don't get further than us,

(50:33):
I'm good.

Speaker 2 (50:36):
Mad things happen to you and yo, uh, scary Terry
McLaren signs with somebody else's That's what I think.

Speaker 6 (50:55):
I Well, you know what now is everybody has a
tactic when it comes to negotiating.

Speaker 4 (51:01):
You know what I'm saying, Your agent's getting antsy or whatever.

Speaker 6 (51:04):
We don't really know what's going on, but you know
what a player does, like I want to trade, right,
then try to put some pressure on that team or
see at least what their value is.

Speaker 4 (51:13):
You know what I'm saying, It's be interesting if he says.

Speaker 6 (51:16):
I want to trade, It's very doubtful that a team
wouldn't be looking to try to acquire him or whatever.
But I think right now what's going to happen is
already probably by hondessant happening. I think a lot of
it is show bolting for the men, for the for
the media, and trying to let that connection and that
be a part of it. But I think that hopefully

(51:38):
he'll be back, you know, hopefully be back.

Speaker 4 (51:40):
But then you know your team shouldn't be your team
shouldn't rely on one player.

Speaker 6 (51:44):
I think jayde Daniels has the skills to not work
with anybody.

Speaker 4 (51:48):
But I look at the sports like this.

Speaker 6 (51:50):
Every so often you have a situation where you have
that bench player, that person that wanted the opportunity and
is there time to shine and make a name for himself.

Speaker 4 (51:57):
And we'll see what comes out of that. Yea out weigh.

Speaker 1 (52:00):
Football season is upon us, but we cannot wait to
see you August eighth through the tenth. We're gonna have
to see if we can get that cold world. And
it is not Donald. It is done.

Speaker 4 (52:10):
L Rollins. Make sure you go and check my brother out.

Speaker 1 (52:13):
And we thank you for taking the time to get
up with us this morning.

Speaker 4 (52:16):
I heard you got vocal skills. I want to see
if you can join me in with this song right here. Hey,
oh my god, is how you in an interview? All right,
let's get I appreciate the time, appreciate you Donald. Donald.

Speaker 2 (52:38):
The restaurant is called I'm a Kazi. That's that's c
k Chen spot.

Speaker 4 (52:43):
Yeah, exactly, that's my dude.

Speaker 2 (52:44):
Man, listen, I'm gonna I'm gonna see you his number.
I just I'm texting with him right now and he
had to tell you to come through.

Speaker 4 (52:52):
Me and him used to be when we were doing
the shows in Austin.

Speaker 6 (52:55):
It was interesting because man I was the director of
craft services, right, so we all we had this little
thing we used to spend how much money I get
to spend and it's like this, yo kay, we only
got like twenty dollars.

Speaker 4 (53:07):
We gotta do beef pies a day or whatever.

Speaker 6 (53:08):
But he is my fool guy. His restaurants are amazing.
He's a good guy.

Speaker 4 (53:16):
Man.

Speaker 6 (53:16):
Like when we did the when we were doing those shows,
we would have lunch every day like one thirty and
then the bubble popped where people started getting COVID And
this was the most exciting part of the day was
the lunch that we were put together and it went
from like thirty people in that room.

Speaker 4 (53:32):
Then we went to like twenty.

Speaker 6 (53:34):
Five to twenty to like three people with two k's like,
y'all are y'all old bron.

Speaker 4 (53:42):
Yeah, I love that dude. He's amazing.

Speaker 5 (53:43):
Man.

Speaker 4 (53:44):
Well, we don't try to get down and see you.

Speaker 6 (53:47):
All right, let me know, man, Donald plus one there
it is all right, God appreciate it. There he is
Donal L. Rollins.

Speaker 4 (53:56):
That's right.

Speaker 1 (53:56):
Make sure you go check him out at the Mothership
if you can get a ticket. We'll continue the conversations
right here on the morning kickoff on sports Radio AM thirteen.

Speaker 4 (54:06):
Hundred The Zone. What a great, great interview by Don L.
Do not call him Donald Donaldllins?

Speaker 2 (54:13):
And hey, I learned a lot about that interview about you.
I didn't know that you was like, stopped that, dude.

Speaker 1 (54:20):
We're not doing that. We're not doing it. They're not
doing that, bro, We're not doing that at all. So
let's get into the conversation.

Speaker 4 (54:28):
Because can I call you he could have went with
Donald duck.

Speaker 2 (54:35):
No, Donald's Okay, let's get in.

Speaker 4 (54:43):
Let's get into this conversation right now. For look, kill Yeah.

Speaker 1 (54:48):
Let's get into this conversation right now. About the Houston Texans.
As Demico Ryan and his team is getting ready.

Speaker 4 (54:56):
To start and kick off the football season.

Speaker 1 (54:59):
You know that a lot of things had to change
for the Houston Texans. Yes they've played well, Yes they've
won their division, but they felt like they needed to
change their offensive line, they needed to make some moves
in the running back room. They've done some different things.

Speaker 4 (55:14):
CJ. Stroud has to stay upright.

Speaker 1 (55:17):
But right now, here's Demiko Ryans talking about how camp
has been going so far.

Speaker 8 (55:22):
I love the vibe of our camp. I love the
way our guys show up and work. I know I
joke about the heat, talk about the heat, but I
haven't had.

Speaker 4 (55:29):
One guy complain.

Speaker 8 (55:30):
Our guys done a great job with our nutrition staff
of attacking the hydration, attacking the recovery, making sure they're
in great shape and ready to go out and perform.
And nobody's worried about the weather except me. When the
guys are handling it really well, and man, the vibe
is right.

Speaker 4 (55:48):
Our guys play with great energy.

Speaker 8 (55:50):
You see guys dancing, having fun, making plays like That's
what I want our guys, that's all I want our
guys to beat like it's hard to make plays in
this league. You heard me say this before. I want
to see that enthusiasm. I think you bring that enthusiasm.
It just it lifts others up. It makes practice more fun.
And I don't forget like everybody started playing football because

(56:10):
it was a fun game to play. And I never
want to lose sight of that. Like the excitement of
the game, the excitement of having our fans out here.
How excited you guys are to cover us. Look at
all the smiles on your faces, Like it's a fun game.
So never lose sight of that. Man, We have fun
every single day year.

Speaker 4 (56:29):
How horse he is.

Speaker 2 (56:30):
He's been doing a lot of screaming, yelling, but his
energy is I'm happy to be here. I want you
to be happy to be here. And you couldn't help.
He said that to the media, said look at y'all.

Speaker 4 (56:42):
All of y'all smiling.

Speaker 2 (56:44):
They were smiling because they could see his light and
his energy, and he if he's given that to the players,
it ain't no other thing but to give it back.

Speaker 4 (56:52):
Well. Coach Sark talks about this a lot too.

Speaker 1 (56:55):
You got to bring your own jews sometimes and making
sure that if you want to get better every single day.
You have to show up to get better every single day.
And that's what Demiko is pushing towards his player. And
as he said, you know the energy, everybody feeds off
of it. That's how practices get better. If you got
people bsing and messing around the entire time, well, it

(57:19):
goes back to what you were talking about before. When
you have a bunch of fights that are happening in practice,
it takes away from what the agenda is, and that's
to get better every day. If I got to take
the time to break up a fight, then we've wasted
part of our practice time. We've wasted what our agenda is,
and our focus has become something different. That's why Schottenheimer

(57:40):
had them get on the line and make the coaches
do it too, because obviously you're not controlling what you got.
You have to be able to have control of how
we're going to get better. And the other thing Demiko
has touched on is you always got to believe that
iron is sharpening iron, and that is what they are
working on in.

Speaker 8 (57:57):
The same vein as a statum for the defense. Our
offense is getting better. That's training camp. I talk about
it all the time. I'm not just throwing out a turn.
But when I talk about iron, sharpen and iron, if
everybody brings their best every single day, we will all
get better. We're still one team. We're gonna go out
and compete against another team. We are making each other
better here. Our offense is making our defense better. Defense

(58:18):
making our offense better, and that's what training camp is
all about. So I'm very excited to see where our
guys are. Really I'm excited to see them go play
against someone else. Becoming that time of camp where it
starts to get a little tippy, guys are tired of
going against each other. So I'll be excited, you know
in the end of the week. End of the week
comes and we're able to go against Minnesota. Yeah, that's

(58:40):
what I was talking about. Yeah, and he didn't mention
special teams. That's special teams is important too, because they
got a lot of guys out there that are trying
to earn the position, and some of them are gunners
and l's like they just want to go out there
and get the job done just so they can get
on the field.

Speaker 4 (58:57):
But the ten is to get on the field so
you can.

Speaker 1 (58:59):
Do what go play yep, yep, and they will figure
that out coming up this week. Lastly, he was also
talking about the running back room. They were dealing with
some injuries, but there's some guys that are making some
impressions for the Texans this year.

Speaker 4 (59:15):
Our bex has done a really good job.

Speaker 8 (59:16):
Man Woody Marks has stepped in and he's made some
really nice runs over the past couple of days. Jawar
is playing fast, it shows he's playing and Chubb is
he plows behind his pass and he's gonna gain yard it.
So all those guys collectively have done a really good
job at the runner back run. The only person he
did not mention is Joe Mixing, and that was because

(59:38):
Joe Mixon was dealing with a little bit of an injury.

Speaker 4 (59:41):
But Joe is their guy.

Speaker 1 (59:43):
They brought up Woody Marx and what he was able
to do in JJ Taylor. Another name that you did
not hear was Damian Pierce. I believe he may be
the odd man out even though you mentioned special teams.
He was good on special teams last year with kickoff return.
So we will what ends up happening with him because
they have him and Braxton Burials who can run, run,

(01:00:07):
and we're gonna try to figure out what's gonna happen
with them. But listening to Demico Ryans and the Texans
and what their thought process is, they seem to be
headed in the right direction. I do believe the younger
guys you think are better. I think that if you
can keep a guy.

Speaker 4 (01:00:26):
Less contract that's not your premiere.

Speaker 1 (01:00:30):
Guy, he will be the one that's what all men
out of being the running back, he'll be on kickoff
returns and things like that.

Speaker 4 (01:00:38):
I firmly believe that for sure.

Speaker 1 (01:00:40):
Coming up next, we've got the world's strongest man bringing
you his world's strongest take right here on the morning
kickoff on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone.

Speaker 4 (01:00:52):
You heard the beat drop. That can only mean one thing.

Speaker 1 (01:00:55):
WWE Hall of Famer and the world's strongest Man, Deep
Mark Henry brings you the world's strongest take.

Speaker 4 (01:01:02):
Take it away, big fellow, large, you know what time
it is? What time is?

Speaker 2 (01:01:06):
It's time for the world's strongest take by the world's
strongest man.

Speaker 4 (01:01:14):
Mack. Guess back then.

Speaker 2 (01:01:16):
They didn't know me. Now I'm hot. They all on me, guys.
Yesterday came down my San Antonio Spurs signed a two
hundred and twenty nine million dollar extension with the Aaron Fox,

(01:01:40):
which means.

Speaker 4 (01:01:42):
He ain't going nowhere.

Speaker 2 (01:01:45):
Everybody was saying, hey, well, they drafted Harper, they had Castle,
who was the Rookie of the Year last year. They
got two really good guards. Why spend a lot of
money on Fox? Spend that money else?

Speaker 4 (01:02:00):
Uh huh.

Speaker 1 (01:02:01):
The NBA has gone to three guard sets more now
than they ever have. You look at what Oklahoma City
did they had three guards? You look at you go
right back across the street to who they played in Indiana?
What did they do three guards? What did the New

(01:02:23):
York Knicks did do.

Speaker 2 (01:02:26):
Before they got eliminated by the Indiana Pacers?

Speaker 4 (01:02:30):
They went three guards?

Speaker 2 (01:02:32):
So, and those are three teams that are gonna be
in the playoff next year.

Speaker 4 (01:02:37):
You're gonna have to go at them. Now. Houston is
gonna be something else.

Speaker 2 (01:02:44):
And I feel like that that's the other.

Speaker 4 (01:02:46):
Team that we're gonna go.

Speaker 2 (01:02:48):
Oh man, I don't know, but de Aaron Fox signing
that deal, that extension means that he's not going anywhere
for the for sale future. And it's good for can
Antonio because he is a Texan. His wife is from Texas,

(01:03:09):
you know, not too far from here, but from Houston,
you know, it's not far. You want to be close
to home. I feel like that this is what the
Spurs need.

Speaker 4 (01:03:20):
They need to have control over their future.

Speaker 2 (01:03:26):
And with all these young players, Fox is not an
old player.

Speaker 4 (01:03:31):
He's not old at all.

Speaker 1 (01:03:33):
So like him and Wemby, Wemby could be reaching his
prime as Fox drifts into his.

Speaker 2 (01:03:42):
You know, I don't know if he'll retire at that
age because he's still got a lot left. But by
the time Wemby is the number one player in the league,
Fox will be, you know, still a top player, but
he'll it'll be three or four years from now.

Speaker 4 (01:03:55):
What say.

Speaker 1 (01:03:56):
Fox is only twenty seven years old, so he is
definitely going to be some body that is going to
be around the league for a long time if he
can stay healthy.

Speaker 4 (01:04:05):
He is electric.

Speaker 1 (01:04:06):
When he was in Sacramento, he was one of the
best players in the NBA. He's been an All NBA selection,
so he's also led the league in steals before this.

Speaker 4 (01:04:18):
The guy is somebody that is.

Speaker 1 (01:04:22):
Special and for him to want to stay with the
San Antonio Spurs even after they went out and got
all these other guards.

Speaker 4 (01:04:31):
But I'm to your point. I believe this is perfect
for him.

Speaker 1 (01:04:35):
I think the way that he plays, he can play
off the ball if he wants to, but he's a
true point guard. He can score. Now he doesn't have
to always be the leading scorer. He can move the basketball.
I think Stefan Castle has grown up a lot right
in front of us. And of course you talked about
Winby and what he is going to do. The biggest

(01:04:57):
question for me when it comes to the San Antonio
Spurs is the jelling part of it. It's a new regime. Yes,
Mitch Johnson was able to take over the position last year,
but now it's the first year that it is his system.
It is going to be what he wants to run.
It is going to be his show. So now it's

(01:05:17):
no longer pop situation anymore. Yeah, he'll be in the
front office, but this isn't his. It's whatever these guys
want to do. And is the Spurs Way fading? Is
it a something that might need to be changed, upgraded,
whatever it might be, because every year, I mean, the
Spurs Way is like the Patriot Way.

Speaker 4 (01:05:36):
You saw what happened.

Speaker 1 (01:05:37):
The Patriot Way has not been good since Bill Belichick left.
Even the last year with Bill Belichick there, the Patriot
way was not the way. So are there some things
that are going to change with the San Antonio Spurs,
and enough of a change to get them right back
in the hunt for the playoffs this year?

Speaker 2 (01:05:56):
But coach is a disciple of Papavich, like it's gonna
change too much. I mean, I could see them, you know,
running a three guard rotation and putting Harper sometimes at
the three because he's a big guard. He's not He's
not a small guy. I mean six' six and two

(01:06:18):
hundred something, pounds he's he's almost.

Speaker 4 (01:06:21):
The same weight As.

Speaker 2 (01:06:22):
Winby SO i, mean it's it'll be cool to see
what they.

Speaker 4 (01:06:28):
DO i love the fact that they Kept.

Speaker 2 (01:06:30):
Barnes barnes could play, small he could play power and certain,
lineups especially if you Have winby on the. Floor, uh
if they go decide to go big now With cornett
at center at seven to three And winby at seven,
five that's a big, lineup and and and then you

(01:06:51):
can really go three guards and say go in the
middle if you want.

Speaker 4 (01:06:55):
To there's a lot that they can do with that.

Speaker 2 (01:06:57):
Versatility I'm i'm looking forward to seeing The spurs and
we said a. Number we sold football. HEAVY i had
to go basketball. Hard, no that's. Fine the number last
year was. Forty we said. FORTY i said forty.

Speaker 1 (01:07:13):
Four you said Forty, YEP i think they'll win forty
five to fifty this year because they were on the
track to win forty.

Speaker 4 (01:07:23):
Five, games But windy went.

Speaker 2 (01:07:24):
Down, yeah SO i, say If i'm sticking sticking to
my forty, FOUR i would say forty four to. Fifty, now,
well the biggest thing for me, too is you got
to look at the fact that if those numbers stay the,
same and we think that we got to make sure
that winby number one is healthy enough to come back and.

Speaker 1 (01:07:47):
Play he looks like he. Is he's been working. Out
you can see the difference in his. Body he's gaining
a little bit. AWAY i saw him try to kick
a soccer ball the other, Day so, yeah he might
have put himself in the right. Position he obviously understands
what it's like to be the guy as the center of.
Attention so there will be some moments that we. See,

(01:08:11):
okay let's see what he can do with this, group
because think about Dearon fox and what he does he's.
Fast he's a speed. GUY a speed. Guy Is Dylan
harper a speed?

Speaker 4 (01:08:21):
Guy we don't. Know he may have to.

Speaker 1 (01:08:24):
Be you also got to look At, Castle castle can
go and his athleticism shows even more and. More you
still Have. Johnson you have a couple of pieces that are.
There so we'll see what happens with These San Antonio
spurs as they have made a ton a ton of
moves this. Offseason and let's not forget about the other

(01:08:45):
young man that they brought in. Too he's a Defensive,
yes he's a defensive. Stopper he may be The Bruce
bowen of this group because he is that type of mental,
player that.

Speaker 4 (01:09:00):
Greenmind green type of.

Speaker 1 (01:09:01):
Guy we'll see what ends up. Happening we're gonna close
out the show and send you To Dan. Patrick but
first we got to talk About texas, baseball as they
were recognized and one quarterback left the, game won a
high school championship as a, coach and now he is
coming back to THE. Nfl we'll tell you all about

(01:09:22):
it right here on the morning kickoff on Sports RADIO
am thirteen Hundred The.

Speaker 4 (01:09:26):
Zone if you.

Speaker 1 (01:09:28):
Missed any parts of the shows, today let me just
tell you you missed a great. ONE i want to
give a shout out To Joe cook Of Inside texas
as he broke it down like no other As texas
is dealing with a, bunk well not a, bunch with
an injury that is on the offensive. Line we'll get

(01:09:49):
confirmation today as we will beat with Coach sarkisian today
after practice and get a chance to get an update
on how camp is. Going and so you will hear
all of that tomorrow right here on the morning. Kickoff
we also got a chance to talk to Don Ll,
rollins Not Donald rollins as he will be at The.

(01:10:10):
Mothership he's A Washington commander fan and we waited till
the very end to talk about The Washington commanders or
else he might have kicked himself off of the, broadcast
but it was a good. Conversation, also if you missed
any part of, it get over to the podcast page
wherever you get your, podcast but most, importantly make sure
you download the iHeartRadio. App it is free and it's also.

(01:10:32):
Important tomorrow we will have some more discussion About texas
football as we get closer and. Closer twenty four. Days
twenty four days For Texas, football taking on The Ohio
state Buck. Eys will also do a preview of some
of the other games that will have some importance as

(01:10:53):
well of that first.

Speaker 4 (01:10:54):
Weekend BUT i.

Speaker 1 (01:10:55):
Wanted to bring this up because you AND i were
having a conversation earlier this, Morning mark about One Teddy,
bridgewater and we'll get into his success of winning a
state championship at his alma mater in high school as
he went back to coach the. Team but Now teddy Two,
Gloves Teddy bridgewater is visiting The Tampa Bay buccaneers and

(01:11:18):
is expected to sign with The buccaneers. Today The buccaneers
will Be bridgewater's eighth team and his THIRD Nfc south
team to go along with The saints and The panthers
are the teams that he's played. For Teddy, bridgewater who's
been just chilling and, coaching now is back in THE,

(01:11:39):
nfl and we talk about this a. Lot we see
a lot of journeymen in THE. Nfl teddy Two gloves
was really really good when he got into THE. Nfl
if he didn't have that knee, injury he would have
been a guy that would have been a quarterback for
The Minnesota viking for a long. Time he was really
really good while he was in THE. Nfl what is

(01:12:02):
it About Teddy bridgewater that just keeps bringing people back to?

Speaker 4 (01:12:05):
Him his?

Speaker 2 (01:12:06):
Intelligence that's the thing we talk about his arm talent
and the fact that he was a really good. Athlete
but the guys that can, coach they also have that other.
Thing they have that ability to lead. Men they have
that that thing that makes other guys. Follow and you
need that on your, team especially if you have a

(01:12:29):
young quarterback and you need somebody to. Mentor And Baker
mayfield is so busy with being the starter and and
getting the game playing, ready he didn't have time to
be trying to mentor and build up any young guys around.
Him so this is a way that you, know the
other guys can get.

Speaker 4 (01:12:49):
Extra work and he can lead them in that.

Speaker 1 (01:12:52):
Process, Well, Teddy teddy is one of those guys too
that he's fundamentally, sound he's, technical he's a he's a pros.
Pro so to your, point he can help with some
of the younger. People but what this also means is
they've looked around and they don't like what they have
as the.

Speaker 4 (01:13:11):
Backups, Right that's that's What cleveland.

Speaker 2 (01:13:13):
Did cleveland, said, oh we're finna take all the extra good. Guys,
well they missed out On, teddy so other teams don't have.
Them they missed Get teddy out of high school coaching
because of The Kenny picketts and the uh they just
picked Up.

Speaker 4 (01:13:31):
Huntingly, yep like they they're they're. Set they're saturating the
market with their.

Speaker 1 (01:13:36):
Quarterbacks this is this is this is an interesting move
for me because This Tampa bay team is a really
solid football. Team AND i think that is why they
went out and Got Teddy bridgewater because they look at
their roster With Mike, Evans Chris, godwin A mecca Of
abuca that they just got From Ohio.

Speaker 4 (01:13:59):
State that's a talent into talented.

Speaker 1 (01:14:01):
Room you also look at Cade aughton at tight end
and Then Bucky irvin And Rashad white at the running back.
Position their defense Via veya still holding it.

Speaker 4 (01:14:12):
