Course we've got our guy Marcus behind the boards. And
if you want to be a part of the show,
all you got to do is Texas. Word Texas followed
by your message to eight one five three zero. Standard
data and message rates may apply. That's the word Texas.
Follow you message to eight one five three zero. Standard
data and message rates may apply. And we want to
give you an opportunity to use that new and improved

(02:10):
iHeart Radio app. And we're going to give you a
chance to win a pair of tickets by using that
talkback feature on.

Speaker 3 (02:17):
That iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 2 (02:18):
We'll give you a keyword for the day and we'll
let you know who you got a chance to win
the tickets. By all right, let's get right into it,
because the Texas Longhorn baseball team has uh man, oh Man,
oh Man came up a little bit short and that's okay.

Speaker 3 (02:35):
That is okay. Let me tell you why it's okay.

Speaker 2 (02:37):
Because Texas loses to Tennessee yesterday and extra innings. Shout
out to my guy, Doc Holliday, I mean Evan Walker,
left handed pitcher that was out able to go out
there and be very very effective. Gave up his first
hit late in the ballgame, and then things kind of
went arrived. That has some defensive plays that were kind
of suspect as well, but for the most part, Texas

(02:59):
came out and did exactactly what they were supposed to do.
They got the party started early with Kimball's Shustler as
he got that RBI.

Speaker 4 (03:09):
Dolly Parton's nine to five being played as the walkouts
on for Shuschter. But he swings here and lifts the
ball in the center that's going to fall in for
a base hit. Rounding third and coming in the scores
Ethan Mendoza, Kimball, Schusler, not wasting any time, went after
the first hit pitch drives it in the left center
for an RBI single and the Longhorns taking one nothing lead.

Speaker 2 (03:29):
And it was important for that because you tried to
set the momentum for everything when it comes to Texas,
and you know, you look at it and you're going
up against a team like Tennessee. As we said before,
they are the reigning national champion during that time, and
so you knew it was going to be a big
time expectation for Texas when they got into that ball game.

(03:52):
But then you start to look at it and you say,
all right, what can we do next? What can we
do next? This is a tough team. They're gonna be
able to do it. And my guy, Ethan Mendoz, this
dude has so much power from the leadoff position and
he almost almost got himself a home run Casey Borb.

Speaker 4 (04:09):
But first, two down, bottom of the fourth, Texas leading
to nothing. First pitched to Mendoz, he stwingson.

Speaker 5 (04:15):
It's a ball.

Speaker 4 (04:15):
Well, this one out to right, curving toward the line.

Speaker 3 (04:18):
And that's off the wall. It's a fair ball. One
run scores Borber round third. He will score.

Speaker 4 (04:25):
On his way to third with a triple into the corner.
Ethan bendoze his fourth triple of the season, and the
Loggorns now leaded Ford to nothing.

Speaker 2 (04:35):
And Texas went out to a Ford to nothing lead
and jumped out there.

Speaker 3 (04:39):
But and that's how baseball go.

Speaker 2 (04:42):
You go into the ball, go ball, and that's what
ended up happening. Tennessee came back, battled back. They ended
up pushing it to extra innings, and after extra innings
you realize that, hey, Texas ended up doing some things defensively,
off offensively that they needed to get done. Situationally, they

(05:03):
played well, they just didn't get it finished in that
they come up short, end up losing to Tennessee seven
to five.

Speaker 3 (05:12):
Tennessee advances.

Speaker 2 (05:13):
Texas now waits to find out what's going to happen after.

Speaker 3 (05:20):
This the SEC tournament.

Speaker 2 (05:22):
We'll find out on Monday where Texas will be host
who Texas will be hosting, because all signs point to
Texas hosting in the regional. And here's coach slasonego after
the game talking about this tournament.

Speaker 3 (05:37):
Well, this one had a little bit of everything.

Speaker 6 (05:39):
Kind of your impressions of this ball game, Yeah.

Speaker 7 (05:42):
I mean good, good ball game. We we just couldn't
get the big hit, you know, we couldn't get the
two out hit or the hitting that you know, being
the whole team, you know, having the advantage of getting
a chance to walk them off, and we had opportunities,
but you know, credit their pitching and you know, we
just we just didn't get the timely.

Speaker 3 (05:59):
Hit up the job Ethan Walker did tonight.

Speaker 7 (06:01):
Yeah, Ethan was great, So, uh did outstanding a good
sign for us moving forward? I thought that uh, you know,
Burns wasn't as chrisp but still was fine. We're playing
a good team and in a great atmosphere, so you know,
it stinks to losing.

Speaker 3 (06:17):
It's fun to be here.

Speaker 7 (06:18):
But uh, now the you know, now now the real
season starts.

Speaker 3 (06:22):
I was gonna say, now you can set you're pitching
up all that. I know you want to be around
a while, but kind.

Speaker 6 (06:27):
Of set the stage for the next few days.

Speaker 7 (06:29):
Yeah, I mean I think you know, we didn't win
the game, but we we basically pitched the guys we
kind of wanted to pitch. You know, if we'd got
to Saturday, we'd use the starters for just a little bit.
But uh, and now we have we have time on
our hands, so uh it's gonna be super important that
we invest that time wisely and not just spend it.

Speaker 6 (06:46):
We got to invest it to be ready to go
next weekend.

Speaker 8 (06:49):
And then obviously the body of work, regardless of today,
certainly warrants a high national seat.

Speaker 7 (06:53):
I would think, Yeah, I mean that's not I mean,
we'll we'll be one of the top eight teams.

Speaker 6 (06:58):
And whether it's one or eight doesn't really matter.

Speaker 9 (07:01):
It's good.

Speaker 6 (07:01):
A chance to play at home next weekend. Appreciate it, Coach.

Speaker 2 (07:03):
Thanks, That's the beautiful thing about this baseball journey. And
we talked to coach about this yesterday during his time
talking about the process of being able to play as
well as they did as the regular season champions, knowing
that they were the number one team in the land

(07:24):
for quite some time, and now they positioned themselves to
have a high national seed, which pretty much ensures you
having a home series.

Speaker 3 (07:34):
Yeah, and that's always good.

Speaker 1 (07:36):
You want to make sure that you have that home
series because you know, as you can see from yesterday,
anything can happened, right, you know, you have you you
have two situations where you got two guys on the
bags and one error sends it all downhill. Yeah, changes
it changes everything. So it'll be better at home, I

(07:58):
think yeah.

Speaker 2 (07:59):
And for me, I mean, like anything else when you're
playing the game and these situations. As Roger Wallace said
right there, he was like, now the real season starts.
Everything else led up to this because at the end
of the year, you want to be the one holding
that trophy. And so now, regardless of all these teams

(08:22):
that are playing in these tournaments and what's going on
with them and who's next, Texas A and M is
still alive, by the way, Shout out to Texas A
and M. But they lost their best player, Lava Lec.
I've hit on the hand and it looks like he
broke his hand, so he's gonna be missing for them.
But they were the number one team in the land
and they're trying to be in a tournament because if

(08:43):
they don't win the SEC or at least get to
the championship, it's gonna be hard for them to get
back into the tournament. But back to Texas and what
they've been able to achieve up to this point. Now
they get some rest, now they get their mind right,
and looks like they're will be playing on Friday.

Speaker 3 (09:00):
And this gives everybody that moment to.

Speaker 2 (09:04):
Let's rec let's recalibrate and be ready for the postseason.
So I'm excited for it. Thought I wanted Texas obviously
to win the game, and they were really really close.
As he said, there were some opportunities for them to
end it with them being the home team, to possibly
walk it off. Our guy Max Blou almost came up

(09:26):
clutch again, hit the ball deep, deep, but it was foul,
and you know, it was so close to being another epic,
big swing for him. He's still trying to get his
timing back and being able to put the ball in play.
Went ero for five yesterday with a strikeout, but he
did get a walk. I mean, it's just trying to

(09:46):
get that. It's good to see Ethan Mendoza. Obviously, Ryland Galvan,
who's been a big part of the success for this team.
He's got to get it going again at the plate.
He had a tough day at the play yesterday. Jalen
flora Is, even though he had an RBI, he just
doesn't look comfortable right at this moment.

Speaker 3 (10:06):
After the play, get all.

Speaker 1 (10:07):
The bad play out of the way and debrief and
then come back next weekend and show them what's up.

Speaker 2 (10:14):
Yeah, And like coach said, he got a chance to
throw all the guys that he wanted to throw. Some
big innings from Ethan Walker, as I said, went four
and two thirds, gave up only one hit. I mean
four and a third and only gave up one hit. Saucier.
Sonier came in. He pitched, well, I mean just those

(10:34):
moments that you give yourself the opportunity to capitalize. And
the difference was they made the big play when they
needed to and Texas did not.

Speaker 3 (10:44):
So we'll see.

Speaker 2 (10:44):
Texas got out, like I said, four run lead and
then they gave it up. So good battle, but they
still got some time to be able to play. Coming
up next, we're gonna talk NBA as the menace, the
timber Wolves. They can't get it going, but okay, see
got it, party got up, Party, got up.

Speaker 3 (11:06):
Part Ay. We'll talk about.

Speaker 2 (11:07):
It when we come back right here on the morning
kickoff on a feel good Friday, right here on Sports
Radio AM thirteen hundred.

Speaker 3 (11:15):
The Zogne coming up in the.

Speaker 2 (11:19):
Next segment, We've got our guy Eric Henry. Yes, I
know he was supposed to be on yesterday, but he'll
I'll let him tell you the issues that he was
having yesterday, so we decided we'll bring him back on
because the College Football Playoffs has approved a new format,
so we want to get his take on that new
format in consee where everything is. Also, at the top

(11:41):
of the eight o'clock, we'll talk to our guy, Zach
sim about the Texas baseball team and the expectations moving forward.
And at eight seventeen and Parker Coleman of Caveview will
be joining us to talk about the softball matchup last
night and today is a must win because they came

(12:02):
up short yesterday. But talking about coming up short, the
Minnesota timber Wolves are now making me get ready to
go buy some donuts for Mark, Henry and Marcus because
they cannot get it done.

Speaker 3 (12:17):
When you talk about a.

Speaker 2 (12:18):
Series, they say the series does not start until you
win on your opponents home court, and that has not happened.
As OKC Thunder continued their onslaught of being one of
the best team in the NBA by beating the Timberwolves
yesterday one eighteen to one three.

Speaker 3 (12:38):
The day started before.

Speaker 2 (12:41):
The game when SGA was given his award for the MVP.

Speaker 3 (12:47):
They talked about it. They continued to push it and then.

Speaker 2 (12:50):
He goes out and has a big, big night.

Speaker 3 (12:54):
And here's him on the big night, har Shin fighting
s g A.

Speaker 10 (13:01):
Mccando's right with him, the steps back space live, here's
been the Mitt rams Ice, Rove, Williams Ice, steak On
Gobert kicks it out, Wallace Robert at those unshot s
GA on the drive shot scare It's second field goal

(13:21):
with about five second different shot, talking games, bok kills
with Alexander a.

Speaker 4 (13:25):
Three pointer, knock it down where the Canda was right
there always the.

Speaker 3 (13:30):
Shots you hit. It's when you hit those shots. Sta
with the step back against mccando.

Speaker 10 (13:37):
Even chins on floating in the random stolen fightling George
Ali's going to walker with the foul cot of the home.

Speaker 1 (13:50):
Print cleanly and then you get it to s GA
with the left he pitt is through the.

Speaker 2 (13:56):
Let me tell you something now, Mark, I know you
got what you're about to say, so I'm gonna let
you say it just a second. But they had Minnesota
turned the ball over fourteen times last night. Okay, see six.
You turn the ball over that much, you deserve to lose.

Speaker 3 (14:19):
You deserve it.

Speaker 1 (14:20):
Yeah, And what do you think the outcome is going
to be when you turn the ball over and give
a team that likes to run the ball up and
down the floor ten more possisions, your outcome is futile. Yeah,

(14:41):
it's a.

Speaker 2 (14:42):
Tough, tough look for what you see on this matchup
because you said something to me at the very beginning
about the length and the ability to play really really
good defense, and they take pride in the defensive end
of it, which is kind of shocking to me because
when you think of a team like this that likes

(15:04):
to get up and down the floor, a lot of
times they give away on the defensive end, they don't
play near as hard on the defensive end. But the
OKC Thunder, that is exactly what they do. They play
hard all the time. They enjoy playing on the same
court together. They look like they're having fun. And I
guess you, like I said, in baseball and anything else,

(15:27):
it's easy to have fun when you win it.

Speaker 1 (15:29):
It's always, you know what, they have four guys being
contention for defensive player, you know, Sga, Chadthagren, Blue Dort
and third team.

Speaker 3 (15:47):
Really don't count Caruso.

Speaker 1 (15:49):
Caruso, you know, he was just out of making that
second team.

Speaker 3 (15:55):
And I'm I'm sitting here.

Speaker 1 (15:57):
You have four guys that can we need to be
Jen Williams is not a bad defensive player either.

Speaker 3 (16:06):
So you have all these guys and we're going to
get into it, you know.

Speaker 1 (16:10):
And my world strongest take about the particulars and my
take about the Oklahoma City Thunder and SGA.

Speaker 3 (16:18):
But last night was, for.

Speaker 1 (16:25):
Lack of a better term, I told you so, moment
when you see them never quit trying to get the
ball out of your hands and get the ball back
on your side of the court.

Speaker 3 (16:37):
They just there's too many of them.

Speaker 1 (16:39):
It's like the Chris Tucker and Jackie Chang's like, wait
a minute, which one of y'all kicked me?

Speaker 3 (16:47):
Cause you don't.

Speaker 1 (16:48):
They got so many weapons and thatsg listen, let's just
say it inside of seventeen feet. It's like him shooting
the layup, being in the layup line. What do we
say the mid range? Maestro?

Speaker 3 (17:00):
When did you say, I don't think I.

Speaker 1 (17:01):
Don't remember him missing one of the mid range. I
remember him missing a couple of trying to take him
to the basket. Yeah, I remember him missing a couple
of threes. But in the mid range. It was like
he was in the layup line.

Speaker 2 (17:15):
Yeah, the mid range is the lost art of this
game because everybody in the analytic world believes that the
three pointer obviously is worth more, but that doesn't mean
it's a better shot. I think the mid ranges is
a lost art in this game. And if you could
get to a certain spot and you know, you can
knock that shot down whenever you want to, That's what

(17:35):
Chris Paul is so good at.

Speaker 3 (17:37):
If Chris Paul gets to that right elbow, two.

Speaker 2 (17:40):
Feet away from the elbow, he's knocking that shot down
ninety eight percent of the time.

Speaker 3 (17:46):
If he gets there, you can kiss the baby on that.

Speaker 1 (17:49):
And that is what shay Gil Chris Alexander is doing.

Speaker 3 (17:54):
He also is the free throw guy.

Speaker 2 (17:56):
He had fifteen free throw attempts last night. And people
get a little bit frustrated and Jaylen McDaniels, let you know, yeah,
I just sometimes you just got.

Speaker 7 (18:07):
A foul on the flagrant lche was They're just a
little frustration blowing over how what was kind of I.

Speaker 9 (18:13):
Just just went in to foull him for I wasn't
even mad at just half thousand years.

Speaker 1 (18:22):
If they give you use something they gave him to you.

Speaker 3 (18:31):
That means they were free. So and I'm gonna tell
you something.

Speaker 1 (18:36):
Right before that possession, he can say he wasn't frustrated,
but he was. He was frustrated because during that time,
SGA we talked about this yesterday.

Speaker 3 (18:46):
SGA is without it is not without fault one hundred percent.

Speaker 1 (18:51):
He will flop, but he will tie you up as well.

Speaker 3 (18:57):
And he tied up and.

Speaker 1 (19:01):
McDaniel's arm and kind of locked his elbow straight and
he was pissed.

Speaker 3 (19:07):
He looked at the referee like, what are you doing.

Speaker 1 (19:09):
You're not gonna call that, And of course SGA got
by him and he pushed him down.

Speaker 3 (19:15):
So it was a frustration foul. He just he just.

Speaker 1 (19:20):
Neglected to mention that to us in that last little ramble.

Speaker 2 (19:25):
And it's just funny to me, because you know, I'm
glad people are starting to truly understand that. Yeah, he's
really really good. He's obviously the MVP, got the award.

Speaker 1 (19:36):
Things are great, but there are some moments where you're
sitting there saying, bro, can you just stay strong.

Speaker 3 (19:43):
Through the lane?

Speaker 1 (19:45):
Nobody says anything about James Harden doing it.

Speaker 3 (19:48):
Yes, they do.

Speaker 2 (19:49):
They do because James Harden was another dude that was
a free throw merchant. He would trick you, get you
to jump in there, jump into you. That's the rule
that I want to see changed.

Speaker 1 (20:00):
That exact play was an example of a James Harden foule,
as in getting you to reach and holding your arm
and throwing the shot up exactly.

Speaker 3 (20:09):
I want I want the rule to change that.

Speaker 2 (20:12):
If you jump up in the air the block a
shot and the guy jumps into you, I think the
foul should be on the offensive player because the offensive
player is the one who initiated the contact. You try
to do a fly by and jump by and he
jumps into you. I'm like, how is that not a

(20:33):
foul on the offensive player?

Speaker 3 (20:35):
He's jumping into him. So you're gonna call it the
SJA ruth. No, I'm gonna call it.

Speaker 2 (20:41):
The James Harden rule because James Harten is the one
that really really did that to the fullest.

Speaker 3 (20:47):
The one that I don't like is the hands.

Speaker 1 (20:50):
Like, if you going for a shot, where's the ball
gonna go in front of you? If you put your
hands out like this, you can make them.

Speaker 3 (21:00):
I said like this, like y'all can see me. Some
of y'all.

Speaker 1 (21:04):
But for the most part, if you run your hands
into somebody's hands, then they called a foul. But a
lot of guys now are tricking you into off their dribble.
They go for a shot and then they put their
hands out about two feet, so you're guaranteed to hit
the other the defender.

Speaker 3 (21:24):
And that's what I don't like that stuff.

Speaker 1 (21:26):
That one is the one I do like, because you
should hand down, man down. You put your hand down.
I'm getting mine, But don't be jumping into me. That's
the one thing that I don't want.

Speaker 3 (21:36):
To just kill them both. Let's just get rid of
both the rules, get both plays.

Speaker 2 (21:42):
Make sure you call it a foul on both ends,
and then they go and then we even that's right.
Coming up next guy, coming up next, we got our.

Speaker 3 (21:51):
Guy and Henry of More twenty four to seven.

Speaker 1 (21:54):
We're gonna talk a lot about this new college.

Speaker 2 (21:57):
Football rule right here on the morning kick Off on No.
Thirteen hundred The Zone. Welcome back to the morning kickoff
right here on sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone.

Speaker 3 (22:10):
And joining us is my.

Speaker 2 (22:12):
Guy, Eric Henry of Horns twenty four to seven.

Speaker 3 (22:16):
You can follow him at Eric C.

Speaker 2 (22:18):
Henry underscore and e I want to get right into
college football because there's a lot going on and there
was finally a decision made that there will be a seeding.

Speaker 3 (22:31):
I guess you could say for.

Speaker 2 (22:32):
College football and the college football playoffs. Please educate the
people on what the ruling has become.

Speaker 11 (22:41):
Yeah. Absolutely, First, ausultys appreciate y'all having me.

Speaker 8 (22:43):
I'm sorry Mikes you guys yesterday left my phone in
uber here in Birmingham. Now trying to find my way
back home from Birmingham. So so Horns made it a
one night stay in the SEC tournament. But to your
question about the seeding, yeah, you know, I think this
was a smart play for those who aren't familiar. Last year,
of course, it was the top highest ranked conference champions

(23:06):
that received automatic buys. This year, what they're doing is
they will still have of course, the CFPS have the
seedings and.

Speaker 11 (23:14):
The selection show.

Speaker 8 (23:14):
You'll do it week by week right to get a
feel for where teams are. But then they will receive
so will not be the four highest conference champions. It
will be the four highest ranked teams overall in terms
of their CFP rank. And that's just the smartest thing
to do right. I mean, it doesn't take a rocket
scientist know that. You know, if you're the conference champion
of the SEC, in all likelihood, you face a tougher

(23:38):
schedule than the conference champion of the Big twelve four chample.
So it makes sense if you can just reced them
one through four and give the teams who have the
strongest strength of schedule in addition to record the top
four seats.

Speaker 1 (23:52):
Eric, do you think that this will stop people from
complaining like the Notre Dames and people that are non
conference participants.

Speaker 8 (24:02):
No, No, Martino is just not assoptimism the playing because
no matter what, it's no.

Speaker 11 (24:06):
Matter what, people are going to complain. I mean it
feels like my entire lifetime.

Speaker 8 (24:10):
I mean I'm old up to member as a kid
when you know, the BCS first came into existence and
people complained about that, Right, people are going to complain
all the way around.

Speaker 11 (24:19):
I'll give you, you.

Speaker 8 (24:20):
Know, the example for teams who may not compete in
a league, right and grant those are fewer and far between.
I'd say, just get in the league. It's that simple
to me. If you know everything of every part of
this revolves around college football in terms of the finances
and we talk about it, you know, pretty much once
a month on the show when I come out and

(24:41):
talk about the business of college football. So for those
who may feel that they're left out because they're not
in the conference, I would simply say, look at your
business interests and get in the conference.

Speaker 2 (24:49):
We're talking to Eric Henry of Horace twinty four seven.
You can follow them at Eric c Henry Underscore on
social media. And I want to get into this e
because the Conference Nation for the Texas and Ohio State
game is an eleven am kick Central time twelve pm
Eastern Time on August the thirtieth, is part of the

(25:10):
big noon kickoff, and there's some legislation that was trying
to be involved. There was rumors that Texas vedode and
opportunity to play a night game, which I'm cool with anyway,
they don't have to veto it. Get out of Ohio
State as soon as possible. But you sit there and
you start to think about how this is all going about.

(25:31):
What is the story about this noon kickoff?

Speaker 8 (25:36):
Yeah, you're listen, you know, for people like you and
I and I think it from destructive.

Speaker 3 (25:40):
Someone will be.

Speaker 8 (25:41):
Working that game the sooner I can get out of Columbus,
Ohio better. All right, that sounds like all things go.

Speaker 11 (25:47):
Well.

Speaker 8 (25:47):
I'm not about to get an eight thirty flight back
off back in two. But in terms of you know,
the backstory, yeah, you know, our own ship Round has
done some recording into it. In terms of some of
the back and forth on this, and I'll do my
two cents, I don't think it's that big of a
deal because I mean, let's just look at it from
a on the field perspective. First, Texas and I think

(26:10):
I talked about this on your show a little while back.
They've been open about saying, hey, you know, yeah, those
night kickoffs are great Alabama. You know, even kick off
kickoffs are great when they went to Alabama few years ago.
But it's something I have to just sit around and
wait for the game all day. It's nice to just
get up, get to the stadium, get it out of
your system.

Speaker 11 (26:28):
Right.

Speaker 8 (26:29):
So, from an on field perspective, I think you have that.
The only thing I can think of in terms of
a possible you know, benefit is just you know, maybe
eyes and duwer attention. But I don't think the due
attension is going to lack any because the game doesn't
take place at night in my opinion, so I think
it's a lot.

Speaker 11 (26:45):
To do about nothing.

Speaker 8 (26:46):
Just again, you know, one of those things where you know,
the business of college football sometimes in that burtally takes
president over the substance on the field.

Speaker 1 (26:55):
There's a picture of Justice Terry floating around here, and
he doesn't look like your everyday ordinary freshman defensive tackle, Like, uh,
can you kind of give the people a little bit
understanding of what we're seeing.

Speaker 8 (27:16):
Yeah, for the folks who may not have seen just
as here's a picture of what went up on his
Instagram with him looking very very STEALTHUEV eighty for those who,
you know, if might even comparison point, I'm not comparing the
two games.

Speaker 11 (27:31):
I'm just saying the comparison point of you.

Speaker 8 (27:33):
See a defensive tackle, big guy like that, and you thinking, man,
it's not supposed to look like that. Is Aaron Donalds
He from of those pics of Aaron Donald making those
you know and Mark you know all about this making
those one hundred and fifty pound dumbelt move. But to
the average person, that's not how it works. No, I think,
if anything, it's just is another you know, feathering thecapitory
Beckton in his system. In terms of off field training.

(27:55):
He may remember a couple of years ago, right the
instants picture of the quarterbacks that went viral with Malik Murphy,
arch Manning Quintin Yours and the league, you know, kind
of twing over everybody else with all the quarterbacks looking
in shape. So this is one thing you know, coming
to Texas gonna do, not you know, just the church
in Georgia, so you turn those heat. But one thing
coming to Austin, Texas gonna do is it's gonna whip
you in the shape, especially in summer condition.

Speaker 2 (28:16):
Yeah, that happens real quick around here when you got
to put that kind of work in. Speaking of putting
in work, I know that you have been doing that
as well. Get over to Horn's twenty four to seven
to check out the ladies. But I got a question
about the offensive line. That was something that I wanted
to ask you yesterday. I know, going into the season,

(28:37):
Texas is trying to replace some guys, but there's a
lot of guys on that offensive line that has got
some burn. Trevor Goolesby is one of those guys. But
working in the middle you're replacing Jake Major, one of
the guys that has the all time starts or games
played here at the University of Texas. How is the
offensive line coming to shape?

Speaker 8 (29:00):
Yeah, hard Drector appreciate that question. I did a hit
on CBS Sports Network last week, spoke about thirty minutes,
but I didn't misspeak on the offensive lines. For anybody
who caught that, let me go ahead and try to
clarify that here and specifically to the interior of the
offensive line where I think it's going to look you up.
You got you know, your stalwart DJ Campbell, a right guard,
right you know he's going to start on the right

(29:22):
side at center. I think you're looking at Cole Hudson.
You know, Cole obviously has played interior offensive line. You
have some other guys there, Daniel Kruz, redshirt freshman, thinking
due time would kind of be they are apparent to
Jake Major's You know, maybe that time is not right now,
but Cole can certainly slide in and play center. You
have Connor Robertson would kind of be that swing guy
on the interior of the offensive line as a reserve

(29:44):
as currently constituted. Right now, we're still on summer and
then Nato Umazulu is what I think you're going to
see at left guard right. So again, it's no shortage
of talent of guys on the interior the offensive line.
It's just a matter of building that cohesion.

Speaker 5 (29:57):
Of course, Cole.

Speaker 8 (29:57):
Hudson a guy who started two years ago, but kind
of that reserve guy, that swing guy that Connor Robertson
is lining up to serve in that role this year.

Speaker 11 (30:05):
DJ is the veteran experience.

Speaker 8 (30:07):
But we're gonna see how these guys come together because
they have not played a lot of football together.

Speaker 1 (30:11):
Are they gonna need time to jail together or is
this a unit that talent will take them where they
want to go.

Speaker 8 (30:21):
The reason I'm optimistic on it, March is this is
different than portal a offensive line.

Speaker 3 (30:26):
Right.

Speaker 8 (30:26):
When you portal an offensive line and you brand talented
guys who are four stars and five stars elsewhere, you
have not only are they trying to learn to play together,
but they're trying to learn the system, learn new surroundings.
That's why I'm a strong believer that you can't really
portal an offensive line. Go at Oklahoma that last year,
this situation I think you have guys who've been in
the same room with Kyle Flood. They understand the expectations,

(30:48):
so it shouldn't matter them getting reps together.

Speaker 11 (30:51):
But there's no shorts of talent, no doubt about it.

Speaker 3 (30:54):
Thank you, appreciate you as always.

Speaker 2 (30:56):
Man, Safe travels, and we will talk to you again next.

Speaker 1 (30:59):
Week on Thursday instead of Friday. Keep your hand on
your phone, man, you say, brother, coming up next, we're
gonna talk Texas softball. Find out what happened last night,
and we'll hear from coach Mike White right here on
the morning kickoff on sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone.

(31:20):
Now's your chance to win a pair of tickets. That's right, folks,
you could go see Judas Priest and of course Alice
Cooper October.

Speaker 3 (31:29):
To twenty fifth at the.

Speaker 2 (31:30):
Germania Insurance Amphitheater.

Speaker 3 (31:33):
All you got to do is get over to the
iHeart radio app.

Speaker 2 (31:36):
Get that red microphone on AM thirteen hundred the Zone
and leave the keyword of the day, and that is nice.

Speaker 3 (31:43):
Nice is the keyword of the day.

Speaker 2 (31:46):
So make sure you get over to that iHeart Radio app,
top that red microphone and leave the word nice. For
a chance to win a pair of tickets to go
see Alice Cooper and Judas Priest. Last night, there was
a weather delay and it was a late late start
already for the University of Texas softball team as they

(32:09):
were taking on the Clemson Tigers. Clemson comes in game one,
they get the victory, and but it wasn't without a fight,
especially when Mia Scott continues to do what she.

Speaker 12 (32:22):
Does, what's down the bunt and he's and beats it
up and the ball gets away from Molo.

Speaker 4 (32:30):
That allows Henry to try to come home and she scores.

Speaker 5 (32:37):
Hayden Henry.

Speaker 2 (32:40):
Cayden Henry scores on the bunt base hint by Mia Scott.
But Mia Scott wasn't done as well because she still
got some pop.

Speaker 5 (32:51):
They said, our previous alumni walked, so we can run
and need to pick a game.

Speaker 7 (32:55):
Mia Scott and just try around the bases.

Speaker 13 (33:01):
As she goes apo off, basing.

Speaker 8 (33:04):
Her eight time run of the year.

Speaker 2 (33:10):
She continues to swing the bat well and continues to
make plays and Texas tries to battle through it all.
But mss Cayden Henry decided she wanted to be a
part of the party as well.

Speaker 6 (33:25):
Up the middle on.

Speaker 8 (33:27):
An O two count, Henry delivers two runs come into score.

Speaker 2 (33:33):
And Texas tried to cut the league, but they ended
up coming up short. Texas falls to Clemson seven to four.
They will play again tonight at eight o'clock, and coach
Mike White spoke after the ball game.

Speaker 14 (33:47):
Yeah, sure, obviously, you know it started off with the
lightning delay, so you just kind of like the way
it kind of went the rest of the day. But
congratulations to Clemson. They played well. He did what they
had to do, took over the mise of ortunities at bat,
and good to make a decision with their pitching changes.
So overall, we've got to kind of take a little

(34:08):
bit deeper, find a way to come back and win
a game tomorrow to push it to the third.

Speaker 2 (34:12):
Game, because there is no tomorrow when when you're down.
This is a series. This isn't this double elimination. So
you get a chance to come back. But Texas has
to come out and win this game tonight to force
it to a third game.

Speaker 1 (34:26):
This today was just not a good day for Texas ball, right,
you know, some days it's just that way, and I
feel like that the men don't have the opportunity, but uh,
the women will bounce back.

Speaker 2 (34:40):
Yeah, and they will definitely get another opportunity today because
they got to work on their defensive adjustments and that
is what coach Mike White was talking about, making sure
that they made the right defensive adjustments.

Speaker 3 (34:56):
Yeah.

Speaker 14 (34:57):
Well it's going.

Speaker 3 (34:57):
To be big.

Speaker 14 (34:58):
I mean, it was played a big part of it tonight.
We went able to kind of make the right decisions,
you know, at the right time, and the game sped up.
You can tell it sped up for her. Uh, you know,
nobody wants to get out of bed and make some
you know, some errors or indecisions that are or decisions
that are incorrect. But you know, there's a lot of
pressure on her out there and you know she's doing

(35:18):
the best she can and that all we can ask over.
And you know, we feel like that. You know, we'll
told to her tomorrow, see how she's feeling, see what
she's doing. But obviously, you know the move we made
putting Leanne back at shortstop and kb A is sick
and worked at that time, so there could be something
we see tomorrow. We just have to kind of see
what happens. But you know, it is what it is.

Speaker 3 (35:41):
Right now.

Speaker 14 (35:41):
I mean obviously, uh you know the Claimson was able
to exploit that today with their speed.

Speaker 2 (35:47):
And that is one thing about this Clemson team that
lets you know how fast they are. They can move.
They were talking about Katie Stewart being at shortstop and
being able to move around, and they moved her back
to let feel.

Speaker 1 (36:00):
So they're gonna make some things and make some changes
defensively because the one thing that you have to be
able to do at this time of year, other teams
will capitalize on your mistakes.

Speaker 3 (36:11):
And this is the best of the best.

Speaker 2 (36:13):
This is the cream of the crop when you get
this close to being at the College World Series. So
it's gonna be a test for them today. But I mean,
if we know anything about this Texas softball team is
the resilience of this team. They're forty nine and eleven
for a reason. You don't win forty nine games just
by being out there. But you look at Clemson, they

(36:34):
understand what the job is and they know who they're
about to be playing against, and they have to lock
in moving forward.

Speaker 3 (36:41):
Yeah, they definitely have to lock in.

Speaker 1 (36:43):
I think one of the things I like so much
about the Pittsburgh Steelers is the fact that their coach
always says, another opportunity for me to coach my team
when the player doesn't play well, right, And I feel
like that's something that you know happened with the women,

(37:04):
Like you make some mistakes, but you get another opportunity
to coach them up. Yeah, that's the one thing about
baseball you don't or in softball, you don't get to
sleep on it much long for a long time.

Speaker 2 (37:15):
Football you got a week, Basketball you got a couple
of days. But softball, baseball, you're right back at it.
So they'll be ready to go tonight eight o'clock. You
can watch the game on ESPN two. It was a
little shaky because the game kept you kept thinking you
were getting ready to watch the game. They go out
and they warm up, they get ready to start the game,

(37:36):
and then all of a sudden, boom the bottom holley.
The weather changes everything and it's the thunderstorm. And I
kept saying, wait a minute, because where I was last
night at the house, there wasn't a lot going on
for me, but I wasn't downtown where the game was.
So with that being said, they changed up a lot
and that kind of played a little bit into it,

(37:58):
but both teams have to go through the same thing,
so you got to come out and be ready to play.

Speaker 3 (38:02):
Texts.

Speaker 1 (38:03):
You didn't hit us out here by the studio until
late Yeah, but it was very serious.

Speaker 2 (38:10):
Yeah, eight o'clock first pitch on ESPN two. Texas will
look to extend the series so they can play again
on Saturday.

Speaker 3 (38:20):
Our number one is in the books.

Speaker 2 (38:22):
Coming up in our number two, we've got Zack sim
of Orangebloods dot Com talking Texas baseball, what's the expectations
moving forward, And of course we're going to talk to
an Parker Coleman and get her take on both baseball
and softball and what's next for them as well. Right
here on the Morning Kickoff on Sports Radio AM thirteen

(38:43):
hundred The Zone. Welcome back to our number two of
the Morning Kickoff right here on Sports Radio AM thirteen
hundred The Zone and our number one. We talked about
the Minnesota Timberwolves falling to OKC one eighteen to one
to OZH three. SGA had a huge night again. We
just both talked to Eric Henry of Horns twenty four

(39:04):
seven talking about the college football playoffs, and then we
talked Texas softball but let's go to the Diamond. As
my guy, Zach Samoorrangebloods dot com. You can follow him
at Zach at the Dish on social media, and Zach,
let's get it. Let's get right into it, because yesterday,
going into the postseason, we kind of knew what to

(39:28):
expect moving forward.

Speaker 3 (39:31):
Texas pretty much has secured a.

Speaker 2 (39:34):
Home game or home regional this weekend coming up next weekend,
and so it wasn't really really going to be that
big of a deal if they lost in the regional
I mean, excuse me, in the SEC tournament, but of
course you want to get that victory, and Texas had
every opportunity to get a game, to win a game, to.

Speaker 3 (39:56):
Push it to Saturday.

Speaker 2 (39:57):
What was your takeaway from yesterday's to Tennessee seven to
five in extra innings.

Speaker 5 (40:05):
Yeah, I thought they played a really good game overall.

Speaker 8 (40:08):
You know, the strikeouts were high, certainly once Arvidson got
in the game, but I think people need to remember
that through the first four innings they were going up
against probably the picture of the year, the entire n CUAA.
I mean, he leaves the nation in strikeouts. He's up
there in era with strikeouts per nine innings hits aloud
for nine. I mean I was going through his stats
and I'm like, Jesus, this guy is you know something else.

(40:30):
I mean, he's throwing up Paul Schemes type numbers from
a couple of years ago, and they were able to
get to him right. The approach worked, and so I
think you can't take away, you know, and just throw
everything out. I think you have to look at it
in different areas because you know they're gonna be back
on the plane this morning, headed back to Austin to
get a week's worth of rest, which is probably the

(40:50):
most important thing. You know, a rod his hand, as
you could see at the end of the game, is
still bothering him. They got out of their healthy they
got some guys a little bit of work, a little
tune up. So now how they can get back to
the basics and say, hey, what do we need to
work on? Well, we know exactly what we need to
work on right now. I mean it showed up in
the game, right just cleaning up a little bit of
defense here and there, making sure we got our pitching

(41:11):
rotation locked in, and you know, late inning or I
should say late season development of pitching continues just to
be astounding.

Speaker 5 (41:20):
You know, it's abstounding.

Speaker 3 (41:24):
Yeah, no doubt, no doubt.

Speaker 2 (41:25):
And I wanted to talk a little bit about that
because yesterday we had coach losnegelon and he had mentioned
that he planned ongoing with Ethan Walker. I call him
the the doc Holiday with that mustache and the way
he was able to go up there and handle his business.
But the impressive part for me was he didn't seem

(41:49):
to get rattled until late in the ballgame. And if
coach wanted to, you know, stretch him out, that's exactly
what he got a chance to do.

Speaker 3 (41:57):
But he could have pulled him.

Speaker 2 (41:58):
He could have made some different changes right after that
final inning where he got them four innings. But what
was your takeaway with the thought of going bullpenned by committee.

Speaker 8 (42:11):
I thought it was really smart. Honestly, you give Rugor
a week off. I mean, he's been used a lot.
You know, you didn't want to pitch Harrison because he's
a guy that you want again line up with regional play.
He's going to be that game number two against the
two seat or three seat whoever you're going to line up,
and so it keeps his normal rest.

Speaker 5 (42:29):
He gets Ruber a little time off to just get.

Speaker 8 (42:31):
Back to the basics and focus on his mechanics and
get his mind right. So I thought it was really smart,
and it was honestly something I think that they had
kind of prepared upon once they knew where they were at.
It was like, we've been afforded the luxury of experimenting
right Tennessee. On the other hand, they had to go
to Liam Doyle. They had to go to their best
ace because they need to get wins because they want

(42:53):
to try to host a regional. Rest Texas is not
just going to host a regional. If they advanced, they're
going to be a top probably at worst top receied.

Speaker 3 (43:00):
In the nation.

Speaker 5 (43:01):
So I thought it was really good.

Speaker 8 (43:03):
And again, you know, if he's able to give you
thirty pitches forty pitches, you know, or you know, get
you nine outs in a game, that's massive. That's really
really massive coming into the postseason because he treates a
really uncomfortable look for lefties, and then on the righties,
you just don't get to see the ball until it's
already on top of you because of where his angle

(43:24):
is at and how he whoops it around his body.
So I think it's a big development for the most
seasons for sure.

Speaker 1 (43:29):
Well, you you want to win all the time, But
isn't it important right now for Texas to actually have
some rest. So not only can the arms get rested,
but guys that are kind.

Speaker 3 (43:41):
Of new to.

Speaker 1 (43:44):
Back playing again, like Blue, they get another few days
just to get acclimated to the game.

Speaker 5 (43:52):
Yeah, you always want to win the game.

Speaker 8 (43:54):
And I think soft Angles talked about it before you.
Baseball is not a sport you can flip the switch
on and off, right, But to your point, Henry, yeah,
it's remark you want to you want to get rested,
especially at this time of year.

Speaker 5 (44:05):
We've gone through that gauntlet.

Speaker 8 (44:07):
It's more important for them to be sitting at home,
going through with the trainer, getting time with Matt Couch,
going through with you know, their respective position coaches or
pitching coach, and just doing fine tuning stuff. They the
haze in the barn. They've already put together the resume.
So yeah, getting back at home, getting back at home,
getting some good food, getting some body right. That's that's

(44:28):
the absolute most important thing for them.

Speaker 3 (44:30):
We're talking to Zach Sam.

Speaker 2 (44:32):
You can follow them at Zach at the dish on
social media, and one of the things that you brought
up was about being able to face some tough pitching.

Speaker 3 (44:42):
Texas bats has been striking out.

Speaker 1 (44:45):
Quite a bit more than what we were expected to
see coming into this season. What kind of work do
you expect them to be putting in this week to
make sure that next weekend that they can shorten those
things up and have more content in situations.

Speaker 5 (45:03):
Yeah, I think it goes back to a number of factors.

Speaker 8 (45:06):
With the with the approach they have at the plate,
there's going to be or it tends itself to have
more strikeouts anyways, just due to taking more pitches. But
there's still some guys out there that I think could
work on. You know, the visual cues about hey, how
do you set up and approach yourself and.

Speaker 5 (45:23):
Get ready for the bat?

Speaker 8 (45:25):
You know, you know, you know that you've got to
swing before the pitcher really starts even into his release, right,
just because it's how fast it's on top of you,
and so working on timing sometimes it's making adjustments where
you're shortening up a little bit or adjusting your feet.
So it's just small stuff like that that Tula is
certainly going to be working on with them in the
in the cages to speak.

Speaker 2 (45:45):
Yeah, there's been a lot of situational stuff. And then
last night they face a kid from Dripping Springs. How
in the heck did Arvidson get away from the University
of Texas after being right up the road to drip
and Springs.

Speaker 5 (46:02):
You know, when I.

Speaker 8 (46:03):
When I saw that he was probably gonna pitch, well,
you know, he pitched the day before and got some
really big outs for them against Obama, and so I
was like, Okay, good, he's not going to pitch against Texas.

Speaker 5 (46:12):
Most likely he only threw five pitches.

Speaker 8 (46:14):
But when I saw them roll them out, I was like, man,
I hate these matchups, in these type of one off games,
because you've got a guy he was committed to the
University of Texas, to Juco, to David Pearson's staff.

Speaker 5 (46:26):
What most people don't go back and look at us.

Speaker 8 (46:28):
He was actually committed and signed to go to Texas
A and M. When satnangles there, they didn't have a
spot for him, so they said, hey, you know, we
can't take you on the roster, and that's what sent
him the Juco route. So and then I've interviewed the
kid a number of times actually, and talked to him
a number of times, especially during the coaching change last
solemn last past summer, and I asked him, I said,

(46:50):
what's what's your thinking? He goes, you know, I don't,
just very frankly like, this is not the situation for me.
I'm I'm going to open it up and look elsewhere.
So it's, you know, one of the those things of
college baseball where it's really tough. You've got limited scholarships,
you got limited numbers. It's not like football where you
got eighty five now possibly one hundred and five soon.
So you know, it's just one of those unfortunate situations

(47:13):
where a really good arm into the elsewhere. Because if
you look at the stats, he I mean, he was
lights out in Juco. He probably would have been one
of the week nights or of the weekend starters here
at Texas if he had come to Texas, you know,
and David Peers is still here or you know, even
under saw single, he would have had that opportunity.

Speaker 1 (47:30):
So one of the things, Yeah, he was dealing yesterday,
very very timely pitching, and as you said, he came
in and got some really big outs, not only the
night before against Alabama, but also against the University of Texas.
With all that being said, now we look for the
regional and all signs looked for Texas to be at

(47:54):
least in the top three as the regional host. Who
do you expect and what are your prognostications on who
will be there?

Speaker 8 (48:07):
So, if I'm looking around the tournaments right now, Houston
Christian down in the Southland, they surprisingly are in the
finals with New Orleans and then won game won yesterday.
I have a three game series for the championships. If
Houston Christian wins out, I would be very shocked if
Houston Christian did not end up in the Austin regional.

(48:28):
You got to look at a team maybe like Oral
Roberts or one of those, if Houston Christian is not
the team. So I think it'll be interesting to see
what kind of two seed that gets into Austin though,
because I do think Texas at the end of the
day will end up as the number two seed.

Speaker 5 (48:42):
Overall, I think they've put.

Speaker 8 (48:43):
Together the resume and I think everyone realizes you're the
SEC champion. This is what the number suggests, right, You've
consistently been one of the best teams in the.

Speaker 5 (48:51):
Nation, we're going to reward you, So.

Speaker 8 (48:55):
I don't know, it'll be interesting to see who ends
up coming to Austin. I've seen Miami, I've seen Kansas
State bandied about as a two three seed, you know, combo.

Speaker 2 (49:04):
So it'll be interesting too because I like, I saw
something today that had Utsa as one of the teams
that could possibly be here. So at one point Dallas
Baptist was a team, and then you've got those automatic
bid winners like a Holy Cross or something like that.

(49:24):
So it'll be interesting to see who all makes it
to Austin next weekend. If you had your druthers, who
would you pick?

Speaker 8 (49:33):
Oh, I you know, Dallas Baptist. Dallas Baptist is not
really a team that you liked. Nope, opposite you in
a regional format just because you know, over a three
game series you're probably gonna get the best of them.

Speaker 5 (49:48):
But when it comes down to regionals, as you know,
it's that.

Speaker 8 (49:50):
One game that it's all that matters, and they've got
they've got a good program under Heathner. Utsa I think
would be an interesting matchup. You know, there's a little
storyline there with obviously having Fancer from there.

Speaker 5 (50:02):
They beat Texas earlier in the year midweek, so.

Speaker 8 (50:06):
I don't think that there's any chance that both of
them end up there, but certainly one of them in
Houston Christian would be a very interesting matchups as a
three to four.

Speaker 2 (50:16):
Yeah, And that's why I'll get a little upset too,
because You're like, Man, I've earned it to be the
national number one or.

Speaker 3 (50:23):
Two seeds, and now you bring that to me.

Speaker 2 (50:26):
That's how baseball go Man, as always, Zach, Appreciate you, buddy,
and we look forward to Monday as we find out
who will be coming to the University.

Speaker 3 (50:36):
Of Texas for that regional Thanks.

Speaker 5 (50:38):
Man, absolutely, Hey, I'll have a great one.

Speaker 3 (50:41):
I appreciate it.

Speaker 2 (50:42):
Coming up next, we've got Ann Parker Coleman. She's gonna
talk Texas.

Speaker 3 (50:47):
Softball and what she expects.

Speaker 2 (50:49):
And we'll also ask her some baseball conversation as well
as football right here on the morning kickoff on sports
Radio AM thirteen hundred The zign It Friday right here
on the morning kickoff on Sports Radio and thirteen hundred
The Zone, and we want to talk Texas athletics, and
what better way to keep this party going than talking

(51:11):
to our friend and Parker Coleman of caveew you can
follow our own.

Speaker 3 (51:17):
Social media sure. Now, hey, you make me nervous, sometimes
you make me divers and Parker.

Speaker 2 (51:23):
Cole won on social media and and Parker, let's get
right into it. Texas baseball comes up a little bit short.
Initially you're a little like sad By, but you also
understand what the journey is and what the expectations are
starting next week. What was your takeaway from yesterday's ball

(51:43):
game against Tennessee.

Speaker 12 (51:46):
Yeah, I think I saw I kind of said it himself.
You never want to lose, and especially a guy like him,
he loves to win. But he said something interesting in
the postgame.

Speaker 15 (51:56):
Which is that I guess I don't remember what.

Speaker 12 (51:59):
Year it was, but there was a year when he
was coaching at TCU and TCU went out in.

Speaker 15 (52:05):
The first round of the Big twelve tournament.

Speaker 16 (52:07):
Well, the team went on.

Speaker 12 (52:08):
To go all the way to Omaha that year, and
so Aggie Grido had texted coach Saw saying that them
getting out in the first round in the conference tournament
was the best thing to happen to them. So think
gots a good positive spin on a tough at your
innings loss yesterday, no doubt.

Speaker 2 (52:25):
And then he also talked about it yesterday when we
got a chance to speak with him about using the
picture by committee role, and it worked out pretty good. Actually,
I thought it was outstanding. Ethan Walker did an unbelievable job.
You got Liam Doyle, who's going to be the pitcher
of the year, throwing one hundred miles an hour, and

(52:46):
then you have him throwing about seventy five and flipping
it up there and keeping their bats off balance. And
everybody kept talking about the explosiveness of Tennessee's offense, but
he held them in check. And that's exactly what we
thought we were boring to see.

Speaker 13 (53:02):
Yeah, who would have thought that when the lineup was
announced that Ethan Walker, who we have relatively not heard of, he'd.

Speaker 15 (53:11):
Only pitched or he had to pitched more than two
innings for Texas, I.

Speaker 16 (53:14):
Think just through eight outings before yesterday.

Speaker 15 (53:17):
But who would have thought that a relatively unknown pitcher
for Texas calling up against Liam Doyle, the ragning sec
pitcher of the year, that Ethan.

Speaker 13 (53:27):
Walker would be the one to walk away with a
better stat line.

Speaker 15 (53:31):
Than Liam Doyle. You said it yourself. It just one
head over.

Speaker 12 (53:35):
Four four innings his first start. I like this by
a committee approach.

Speaker 16 (53:40):
I think that that is necessary.

Speaker 12 (53:43):
For the way that their bullpen and the way that
their arms are just so short changed.

Speaker 16 (53:52):
I think you watch the.

Speaker 15 (53:54):
Game, but knowing that you have a guy like Ethan Walker,
uh another another guy that can come out and start
like that. I mean, just that in self is the win.

Speaker 1 (54:07):
No doubt, Miss miss Ann Parker. I gotta give this
to you. I know it's a negative, and I try
my best to stay away from the negatives. But the errors,
like the little nick knack things that should have been
turned when you have guys on base, I know you

(54:27):
watch more games than I did this year. What what
are they going to have to do to fix that
or is that something that you just have to you know,
Texas is gonna have to live with and get hits.

Speaker 12 (54:40):
Yeah, well there are two two different types right here.

Speaker 16 (54:44):
I mean what we saw.

Speaker 15 (54:45):
From Jalen Flrez that gave Tennessee the lead, or at
least not not the lead.

Speaker 16 (54:53):
But I guess that that's when they started to come
back when Texas had that that's.

Speaker 5 (54:57):
Big four oh lead.

Speaker 16 (54:59):
But that is the characteristic you haven't seen him make
a play like that before. But then there are other
errors that we've seen more often Texas of ten runners
on base yesterday X and it's just like that that really.

Speaker 12 (55:15):
Comes back to dry.

Speaker 16 (55:15):
They struck out eighteen times. I feel like on the
defensive side, we hadn't seen errors like that in a while.
And I mean that when I look back, I think
that that is what the difference in the game was.

Speaker 3 (55:29):
I agree with you on that.

Speaker 2 (55:30):
As far as making sure that they have situational baseball
taken care of. Yeah, you're still dealing with the injury
for Max Mlue, him trying to make sure that he's
good to go. You look at what Adrian Rodriguez has
been going through, battling through all of those situations, still
having the bat lefty on lefty. So you have some

(55:51):
situations that need to be done. But the one thing
that I always think about in these situations, coach does
not like to bunt at all, because they're.

Speaker 3 (56:01):
That I always think about it.

Speaker 2 (56:04):
I was like, there was a couple of situations where
I thought they were going to put it down and
then I was like, well, guess what, He's not going
to bunt in those situations. But next week or Monday. Monday,
we will find out about the regional. How excited are
you to be covering the Texas Longhorns for their first
your first time here in SLOSS, inaugural season, and now

(56:27):
getting the chance to cover a regional.

Speaker 12 (56:31):
You know, I have covered when I was in charlottetol
for my last job covering University Virginia baseball. I covered
the past two years. They're regionals, they're super regionals, and
it's incredible. I mean, so the season baseball like that
when you get to be out on your home turf
and the fans get to come out, there's nothing like it.

Speaker 16 (56:50):
It's it's probably my favorite sporting event that I have
ever covered.

Speaker 12 (56:54):
And that was in Virginia. They have a great fan
base there.

Speaker 16 (56:57):
I can't even imagine what they and Austin is going
to be like with Texas fans. It really is going
to be great. And you know what I lost yesterday stinks,
but I had so much time to rest up. And
no matter what, Texas is not gonna be sweating come
Monday because they've locked up a top eight seed. So
as long as they are playing until they naked to Omaha,

(57:19):
they will be playing at home, no doubt, no.

Speaker 2 (57:21):
Doubt, let's talk about across the street. Texas softball, after
a lengthy delay for the weather, ends up losing to Clemson.
Clemson is a top twenty team, thirteen team, and now
they have to go up with their backs against the wall.
What was your takeaway from last night's softball game as well?

Speaker 16 (57:44):
You know what, hargit looks like they were pressing, and
afterwards Kitan Henry said that that is what she thought
the problem was, they were pressing a little bit too hard,
Whereas I mean, you look at the weekend before the
that's for firing.

Speaker 12 (57:58):
They had thirty five runs over over their three games
in regionals, and then last night kind.

Speaker 15 (58:04):
Of similar to baseball, but we saw some.

Speaker 12 (58:06):
Uncharacteristic defensive mistakes and then just other you know, missed opportunities.

Speaker 16 (58:13):
I think, especially back into of course now it's so.

Speaker 12 (58:16):
Late last night, it was probably.

Speaker 15 (58:17):
Around eleven o'clock.

Speaker 16 (58:18):
I can't remember which ending it was, but Texas has
the bases loaded. Clemson opts to intentionally walk Rich at
what and Katie Stewart flies out to less field and
they played a little too aggressive. They try to run
home and Clinton gets the out at home plate. It's
plays like that where you have the opportunity, bases loaded,

(58:42):
a big, a big opportunity right there, and you come
up over and stuff like that just can't happen in
this time of year, when it comes down to such
such little details that make the difference.

Speaker 1 (58:56):
Yeah, coach Coach mentioned it in the post game too. Defensively,
they've got to do some things a little bit better.
You're right about the aggressiveness on the baits pass and
doing a little bit too much, especially with a team
like this. Do you expect Teagan Kevan to get the
ball again tonight or do you think they're gonna move
it around a little bit to kind of get this

(59:18):
thing going again?

Speaker 12 (59:21):
She asked a great question. I I mean just that
that's their their girl.

Speaker 16 (59:28):
I almost think.

Speaker 12 (59:31):
You savor for the series finale.

Speaker 16 (59:35):
Barring that that you have one.

Speaker 12 (59:37):
And you know, the thing about Teagan is she has
she hasn't really looked herself.

Speaker 16 (59:43):
I'd say in last I believe it was Sunday whatever,
the series finalite in the region was. Towards the end
of her outing, she looked.

Speaker 12 (59:53):
A little bit more like herself. But recently there's just
been some stroubles and yeah, you.

Speaker 16 (59:59):
Got sort that out.

Speaker 12 (01:00:00):
And Coach White is not sure about saying that all
of this starts with starting pitching, and I think that
that is also part of, you know, the struggles from
from last same.

Speaker 2 (01:00:10):
And you know what, he's a pitcher, so he knows
all about that. As always, thank you so much for
taking the time. We will find out about the regional
for Texas Baseball on Monday, and hopefully we're talking about
Texas Softball making it to Oaklah.

Speaker 3 (01:00:28):
Thank you, Thank you, Parker, I appreciate you.

Speaker 15 (01:00:32):
Thanks althy care All right.

Speaker 3 (01:00:33):
There she is and Parker Coleman of cave you.

Speaker 2 (01:00:37):
You can also see her and I on Cavee every
Wednesday breaking down the plays of the week for baseball
on the forty Acres. Coming up next, it's the World's
Strongest Man bringing you his world's strongest tank right here
on the morning kickoff on Sports Radio and thirteen hundred design.
You know what time it is, WWE Hall of Famer

(01:00:59):
and the World's Strongest Man, Mark Henry brings you his World's.

Speaker 3 (01:01:05):
Strongest Take take it away, big fella art. What's up man?
You know what time it is?

Speaker 1 (01:01:11):
What's hollis good time for the world's strongest. Take are
the world's strongest man my guest. Back then, they didn't
know me. Now I'm hot, they all on me. A
lot of people don't know Mike Jones, but you're gonna
know better. You better recognize guys. My take today is

(01:01:36):
is based on watching the Oklahoma City Thunder play last night.
And you might say, oh, this is this is just
about SGA.

Speaker 3 (01:01:48):
No it's not. It's not just about SGA. But he's
the catalyst.

Speaker 1 (01:01:55):
This is a guy that I would invest my money
in given a Supermax too. There's not many guys out
there that I'm I'm you.

Speaker 3 (01:02:07):
Know, Halli Burden, Jaden.

Speaker 1 (01:02:12):
New York Hicks, Jalen Brunton, Jayalen Brunson, Wimby, you know,
it's it's a few Giannis. There's there's stars in the
league that you say, Okay, I'm gonna get his guy
all the money. But I don't think Shay Gildrews Alexander
would take all the money.

Speaker 3 (01:02:33):
Because of his.

Speaker 1 (01:02:35):
Willingness to be giving to With all the players on
this team, he could be the dude, could be a monster,
but he's not.

Speaker 3 (01:02:44):
He's He's leading the league.

Speaker 1 (01:02:45):
And was the MVP and he's still trying to diversified offense.
I give him the money, and I'm I make Jay,
I make him, I make shake gilgens out Alexander the
face of the league. We've been talking about who's going
to be the face and is it going to be.

Speaker 3 (01:03:07):
Somebody from America? And YadA, YadA.

Speaker 1 (01:03:10):
Listen, everybody that's been an MVP over the last few
years have not been from America.

Speaker 2 (01:03:18):
Last seven MVPs are non American, and that's because some
of them got back to back right.

Speaker 1 (01:03:24):
No, So you look at the you know, you can
set your own criteria, but I look at it like this.
Are you a hard worker and you're the first one
there and the last one lead you and you lead
the team? Check for Shay. Can you score and play defense?
Check and have a willingness to do so?

Speaker 3 (01:03:45):
Check? Do you make the players around you better? Check?
Are you a guy that is willing to not swallow
up all the air in the room? Check?

Speaker 1 (01:04:05):
Are you a troublesome person? Do you get Do you
open the newspaper? Well, nobody opens the newspapers anymore, but
you go on social media and you hear about him
getting arrested or being in a bad situation.

Speaker 3 (01:04:18):
No check. The guy is well rounded.

Speaker 1 (01:04:24):
He's solid human being as well as a great basketball player.
I look at Shane Gildrims, Alexander's being the guy in
the league.

Speaker 4 (01:04:33):
For the man, I'll pay the man.

Speaker 3 (01:04:38):
I'll pay him too.

Speaker 1 (01:04:40):
I am looking for him to be the guy over
the net. He's he's My take is he is the
Patrick Mahomes of basketball, and that's that's the guy you
want in that situation.

Speaker 3 (01:04:54):
Harge, What say you?

Speaker 5 (01:04:56):
Well?

Speaker 2 (01:04:57):
I mean, are we beinghyprobolic? Are we in the moment?
Are we talking about this because of what you have
seen right now? Or is this something that you've sat
back and talked about because think about this, for a while,

(01:05:18):
We've been talking about Shay Gil Chris Alexander, I know
in my home for quite some time. I know that
you and I have had a conversation about it because
of the way that he plays.

Speaker 3 (01:05:30):
Because he is a talent, but he.

Speaker 2 (01:05:33):
Doesn't he's not flashy, he doesn't move the needle as
far as being that type of person that you would
Are you gonna go buy his shoes?

Speaker 3 (01:05:43):
You know what I'm saying? Like those types of things.

Speaker 2 (01:05:45):
Anthony Edwards, on the other hand, you look at him,
you look at his flair, but he's been fined over
four hundred thousand dollars because of his mouth, because he
doesn't understand the way that you carry yourself into day's NBA.
As far as being marketable. Yeah, the young kids look
at him and they're like.

Speaker 3 (01:06:05):
Yeah, look at that.

Speaker 2 (01:06:07):
But he's losing money because he can't control himself, right,
And why are you gonna invest Exactly Supermax and a
guy like that, Well, he's definitely getting it because of
his talent. He's definitely gonna get it because of his talent.
It has zero to do with the off the court thing.
But I won't be able.

Speaker 3 (01:06:24):
To make him the face of the league because of
his mouth. Right, Well, that's what happened to John Morett.

Speaker 2 (01:06:30):
John Morett had an opportunity to face of the league
because he did have the style, he did have the flair.
And my son still wears his shoes and he loves
his shoes because they're comfortable.

Speaker 1 (01:06:40):
I don't consider Shae boring or corny or not exciting
because he's not a troublesome person because he doesn't have
the flash. And you can't tell whether Shade is happy, sad, mad, frustrated, upset.

Speaker 2 (01:07:01):
His expression never changes right, and he loves his team
and his team loves him, and so except for when
they're celebrating.

Speaker 3 (01:07:08):
But everybody's expression change when you're celebrating.

Speaker 2 (01:07:11):
Well, CP three talked about supporting s g A because
he showed up yesterday as he got his award. He
was sitting with his family and CP three talked about
what s g A is in his eyes, that sopreciation.

Speaker 3 (01:07:29):
Brings me out.

Speaker 9 (01:07:29):
Tonight MVP trophy presentation had to come to Touche, raise it,
raise it up in.

Speaker 3 (01:07:35):
Front of the fans.

Speaker 14 (01:07:36):
So in your season together with him, when did you
see it?

Speaker 9 (01:07:40):
I see probably just his love for the game. I
think that's what his teammates probably talking about the most,
is his love for the game and himself is his home.
He deserves me, his developed through the series development, I
don't know, he just keep getting better and better.

Speaker 3 (01:07:59):
He the guy who lives in the gym.

Speaker 9 (01:08:01):
You know, if you say something's your weakness form, he
don't go work on him.

Speaker 8 (01:08:05):
You know.

Speaker 3 (01:08:06):
I think that helps a lot. That's what it's about.
That's what I'm talking about.

Speaker 1 (01:08:12):
So you know, you have the Luca conversation complete opposite.

Speaker 3 (01:08:16):
But but the thing is hard.

Speaker 1 (01:08:19):
They they have five first round draft picks on that
team with him.

Speaker 3 (01:08:25):
Yeah, I mean that are not playing check first.

Speaker 9 (01:08:32):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (01:08:32):
The underdrafted guy is uh.

Speaker 1 (01:08:39):
I don't know why his name slips to me every
time because he's lou Dort. Lou Dort is the only
undrafted guy in the in the starting lineup. You know,
you have guys like Alex Caruso that you know, they
second round picks and stuff like that. But man, they
got they got Flaggler on that bench and and they
got Nicola.

Speaker 3 (01:08:58):
Topic both first round draft picks.

Speaker 1 (01:09:00):
Haven't touched the court in the playoffs yet.

Speaker 3 (01:09:05):
They they're just too deep.

Speaker 1 (01:09:07):
They are definitely deep, and it looks like they are leading.
They're led in the right direction by the right guy.
And that is the MVP sg A.

Speaker 2 (01:09:18):
Coming up next, we'll close out the show and send
you to Dan Patrick. We're gonna let you know what's
happening over the weekend, and of course Texas softball with
their backs up against the wall right here on the
morning kick off the sports Radio.

Speaker 3 (01:09:33):
AM thirteen hundred the Zone.

Speaker 2 (01:09:36):
What a week we have had here on the morning kickoff.
There's so much that is going on on the forty
acres and we continue to try to bring it all
to you, whether it is baseball, softball, track and field, tennis, golf.
Texas is doing their things and if you missed any
parts of our show, get over to the podcast page

(01:09:57):
and check out all the latest.

Speaker 3 (01:09:58):
All you gotta do is go over there.

Speaker 2 (01:09:59):
And so for AM thirteen hundred The Zone the morning
kickoff and you can catch up on all the shows. Also,
we will be off on Monday for Memorial Day. We
are taking some time off.

Speaker 1 (01:10:14):
We'll be back bringing it all to you on Tuesday
with our regular guests, starting with Joe Cook. We are
possibly going to have on Mac Brown next week in
our Legends of the Locker Room segment. He and I
have been talking a little bit, so he might be
able to come on with us soon. Make sure you

(01:10:35):
get over to all of our social media's at AM
thirteen hundred The Zone on TikTok, on Twitter, on Facebook,
on Instagram, wherever you get your social media.

Speaker 3 (01:10:49):
Look for AM thirteen hundred The Zone.

Speaker 2 (01:10:52):
We got Texas Softball Tonight, Texas Softball eight o'clock must
win game and coach Mike White talked about the mindset
and where they need to be.

Speaker 14 (01:11:03):
Yeah, well there's no holding back. You know, there's no way,
there's no Tomorrow. Well, there's no Sunday if we don't
play better, or Saturday actually because of the Thursday series,
but there's no Saturday if we don't play better Friday
without a doubt. And you know, I think we've got
we got to look at their two best pitches today.
So you know, I think we moved the ball pretty well.
There was no strikeouts. Like the lady said, we chased

(01:11:24):
a little bit too much, you know, and but good
pitch you can make that, make that happen. They make
pictures look enticing and make you swing at their pitch.
And I think we ought to just be a little
more patient in certain situations without a doubt, And we'll
go to work on that tomorrow when you get an opportunity.
But we've got to kind of really strike first, you know,
we have we have the first at bat tomorrow. We've

(01:11:45):
got to come out and really kind of set the
tone for the game and change that. You know, if
they're playing free and easy, and I thought that team
was pretty free and easy, but it wasn't until we
started making some miras that things clamped down a little
bit and they got a little anxious, so to speak,
and they tried to summon You can see that with
Reese or Lost, that bat was pressing too much, trying
to make things happen, when really we just need to

(01:12:05):
base on us.

Speaker 1 (01:12:06):
You got to make sure they come out and get
ready to play.

Speaker 3 (01:12:09):
We also have the NBA.

Speaker 1 (01:12:11):
Tonight, we had the New York Knicks taking on the
Indiana Pacers. Indiana may have what to come from behind victory.
The improbable became probable and it actually happened. Tyresee Halliburton,
his dad is still banned.

Speaker 3 (01:12:30):
They're trying to get his dad back involved. They're trying to.

Speaker 1 (01:12:32):
Get free Halliburton, Free Halliburton. But tonight in New York,
the Knicks are favored by six.

Speaker 3 (01:12:41):
Do they finish it?

Speaker 2 (01:12:41):
Do they win tonight and even up the series, or
do they go back to Indiana on.

Speaker 3 (01:12:50):
Upset Alert.

Speaker 1 (01:12:51):
Well, I'll tell you what if they if they're able
to pull this off, it'll be more than an episode
of Alert, because they don't lose a lot of games
at home. They do now, So I mean if they're
able to get another one in New York, then you
can kiss the baby because you go back to Indy
and then they're they're on fire in Indy.

Speaker 2 (01:13:09):
Yeah, yeah, so we will see, we'll see what's gonna
end up happening. And that's why you start looking at this.
Jalen Brunson did what he was supposed to do. He
had a great game, but he's got to stay out
of foul trouble for for him. And then you can't
let Nesmith get uh Natesmith get busy by shooting that

(01:13:30):
many threes. And those are the types of things that
you got to look at because it's not normal.

Speaker 1 (01:13:35):
I would don't all the time out, but who's got Nateman?

Speaker 3 (01:13:38):
But in that situation, you don't do that because he's
not used to shooting like that. That was just one
of those games.

Speaker 2 (01:13:46):
Now, if he comes out today and he continues to hit,
then you start to really evaluate how y'all want to
play defense on him. But he's not that dude. I
haven't seen him shoot like that all season long. And
that's why if you're a Knicks fan, you're trying to
think we played well enough to win that game. We

(01:14:06):
just didn't get the stops or we stopped making baskets.
They missed a ton of shots down the stretch too.
It wasn't just they were making them, they weren't hitting them.
So it kind of changes the way you go about
it as well. So I look forward to this game
right here. I believe that the Knicks they get it

(01:14:28):
done tonight. They get it done to me, and I
don't think. I don't think that Cleveland and Cleveland, Indiana
is a talented basketball team. I have now became a
Tyrese Halliburton fan just because his game is unorthodox.

Speaker 3 (01:14:44):
His shot is probably.

Speaker 2 (01:14:46):
One of the ugliest on earth, but it hits the
bottom of the end every single time. So for me
watching them, I think it's it's gonna be a fun game.

Speaker 3 (01:14:57):
I know that.

Speaker 2 (01:14:57):
I always like looking at all those people on the
front and how their faces changed throughout the moments. What's
that guy's name, Timothy him whatever his name is, the
one that plays Yeah, the one that played Bob Dylan.
He is losing his mind every single game on that
front row.

Speaker 3 (01:15:16):
You thinking about how much is real ticket? Oh? I
know what I say.

Speaker 2 (01:15:20):
Yesterday the lowest ticket was what eight forty five or
something like that. That's the that's the get in ticket.
Don't want any of that right there, man, I don't
want none of that. So but I look forward to
the weekend and seeing what's happening. Hopefully Texas Softball get
to win. When we come back next week, we'll know
everything we need to know about the regionals, how they

(01:15:43):
were set up, who Texas will be facing in game times.
We will find all of that out on Monday, and
then we will talk about it on Tuesday. Joe Cook
will be on with us. We'll try and figure out
what we're gonna do about coach Slocksnack opening on the
game time and what his availability is going to be. Mark,

(01:16:04):
have a great weekend for Mark, Henry Marcus have another
great weekend.

Speaker 1 (01:16:08):
I am your host, Mike Harball Harts. And remember this, folks,
don't believe everything you see, because even salt looks like sugar.

Speaker 3 (01:16:16):
No show Monday. We will be back on Tuesday.

Speaker 5 (01:16:19):
Peace,
