Speaker 4 (02:16):
Game week Mark, what's popping?
Speaker 2 (02:17):
Baby, man? I am so excited. I can't even explain
to you how happy I am to have football back.
Speaker 1 (02:26):
Don't no, it's just crazy to think that we wait
for it, wait for it, wait for it. It gets
here and before you know it, it's January seventeenth and
the season's over.
Speaker 2 (02:35):
But you know, and the thing is hard is it
seems like it's gonna last forever. But like twelve, twelve,
fourteen weeks is not a long time.
Speaker 4 (02:45):
It's not.
Speaker 1 (02:46):
And it seems like it just continues to turn over
and turn over and turn over. But let's not rush
ourselves through it. Let's enjoy the journey. Let's get ready
for it all. We're back in game week mode. That
means that you we'll be able to listen to Coach
Sark's press conference this after or this morning, starting at
(03:06):
eleven o'clock. It'll be right here. Myself, Craig Way, and
Cam Parker will be at the stadium bringing it to
you live and and living color, and Coach Sark will
take the microphone at eleven thirty. So it is an
exciting time as we prepare for the trip to Ohio
State Columbus, the team that ended our season revenge Tour
(03:29):
as my man, Anthony Hill and DJ Campbell. Everybody's got
it on their mind going up to Columbus. But I
want you to hear and this is something that we've
been talking about for quite some time. We're getting ready
for this matchup, and my man Corey Moles did this
beautiful edit of what these guys are thinking about this week.
Speaker 5 (03:51):
We're full on Ohio State now, so I'm thinking about
them a lot. But they're a really good team, killed
down sunny styles. They got some good players, so we're
gonna have ours. But it's gonna be a phone one.
Speaker 6 (04:01):
We gotta go win week one before we can go
think about winning week sixteen.
Speaker 4 (04:04):
So I'm just taking a week by week. Girl on
the road. It's awesome. You only have each other.
Speaker 5 (04:09):
So you're eighty ninety guys that make the travel squad
is the only guys you got and sit together and
you attacking the Warriors.
Speaker 1 (04:17):
Well the other part of that mark. You know, these
guys are talking about that right like you're locked in,
You're ready to go.
Speaker 4 (04:23):
It's you against the world starting right now.
Speaker 1 (04:26):
It started actually during the summer, started after last season's
final game. But now they are pushing themselves and making
things happen. But the one that has been promoting this
Texas Long Quarantinam, been pounding the table for this Texas
Long Hoaranteam has been one Paul fine Bomb. If Paul
fine Bomb has said, I can't believe that Texas is
(04:49):
an underdog in this matchup.
Speaker 4 (04:51):
I want to start with you here. Does Vegas have
it wrong?
Speaker 7 (04:54):
Should Arch and Texas be favored over Ohio State?
Speaker 8 (04:57):
Where are you on this?
Speaker 7 (05:00):
They definitely have it wrong, Molly, and I understand what's
going on here. These two teams met in January and
the Cotton Bowl and Texas fell in that game. So,
but the teams are different. Quarterbacks different at Texas, the
quarterbacks different at Ohio State. And I don't think Ohio
State is what we saw last year winning the national championship.
They're good, but I don't think they're They're a league now.
(05:22):
Vegas tends to go with home field and with what
we know, and what we know is Ohio State won
the championship last year. But I think I think Vegas
is completely wrong. I really don't even think this game
is going to be close. I'm not trying to screw
up viewership for it. It's a big it's a big event,
one of the biggest games we have seen. But I
think Texas Texas's roster is better, and I think Ohio
(05:44):
State is going to be hungover from last.
Speaker 3 (05:46):
Year with a.
Speaker 7 (05:47):
New quarterback, a new by the way, two new coordinators
as well. Try try putting that in the in the
potion and making it work.
Speaker 3 (05:54):
Well, it's it's usually a disaster.
Speaker 4 (05:57):
Mark how you feel.
Speaker 2 (05:58):
And hey, I want to send Paul Finebaum a card
telling him how much I respect his gangster right now,
because hart I didn't want to be the guy that
jinks everything, because you know, I've.
Speaker 3 (06:17):
Been known to have the kiss it dead.
Speaker 2 (06:20):
But like, I don't think that this is going to
be the game where Texas is going to have to
kick a field goal to win. I think this is
one of those that Texas is not gonna run away
with it, but it'll I think it'll be on the
side of Texas Alabama a couple of years ago.
Speaker 1 (06:36):
Well, and that's what a lot of folks are looking
at as well. But you do have to understand what
we saw this past weekend, and we'll get into that
a little bit in the next segment talking about what
we saw in Dublin, Ireland and across college football, because
there was more than just that one game the first
matchup of ranked teams with k State and Iowa State,
(06:59):
but you are. I also got to look at every
team and we'll talk about it in the Harsknock's Life too.
The start of the season is always the sketchiest, right.
You don't know exactly who you are, You don't know
exactly what you are. You are trying to establish some footing,
as you would. There are some teams that will come
(07:21):
out and they'll just throw it all over the yard,
and that's what they do.
Speaker 4 (07:24):
But then there are some that.
Speaker 1 (07:27):
This isn't one of those games where you could just
come out and just air it out all over the place.
This is These are two elite teams. Let's not get
it twisted. Ohio State is the defendant national champion, and yes,
to his point, all these teams are different.
Speaker 4 (07:42):
Texas is a different team. Coach Sark has talked about that.
Speaker 1 (07:45):
But the reality of it is, these are two elite
programs with elite talent on every level that you just
can't come out there and just think that you're just
gonna run away with the game.
Speaker 3 (07:55):
But we do know who they are.
Speaker 2 (07:58):
The three players that the most players last season for
them are gone. Only one of the players for Texas
is gonna change, and that's arch like I believe that golden.
Speaker 1 (08:12):
Hearing in them locked that guy up there, you know
Macouba was is gonna be missing on the defensive end. Yeah,
there's some guy Baron Sorell and all those other dudes
that played an integral part up front are gonna be gone.
So there's both teams have lost a lot. Let's not
get it, let's not get it twisted.
Speaker 2 (08:29):
Well, they both lost. Yeah, that's that's every season. But
we know who Texas is. Texas identity is solidified over
the last three years. And Texas was able to do
a good job containing Smith last year and at the
expense of giving up the running game.
Speaker 3 (08:50):
So now this year is the running game for the house.
Speaker 2 (08:53):
They gonna be able to be comfortable comfortable to last
year and will they be to have the same effect
in coverage against Jeremiah Smith?
Speaker 1 (09:05):
Right, And that's why the challenge is going to be
with this Texas defense. Because you lose a Ja Da
a Thorp Award winner, You lose a starting safety in
Andrew mccooba, who was replaced Derek Williams from last year.
But yes, you replace him with some talent. With Derek Williams,
(09:26):
you've got other people Jalen Gilbo.
Speaker 4 (09:29):
But these are different moments.
Speaker 1 (09:31):
These are different moments that we're all looking at right now,
and I'm with you. I believe that Texas is the
better football team as a whole. But this is Archer's
first start on the road in front of a raucous crowd.
Speaker 4 (09:45):
We can all say that we're good.
Speaker 1 (09:46):
I don't get nervous until you walk out there and
that adrenaline hit you and the energy is a little
bit different.
Speaker 4 (09:53):
Vince Young. I saw Vince Young.
Speaker 1 (09:55):
Talking about how the trip to Ohio State for him,
they were getting hitt ahead. Coaches told them to put
their helmets on when they went out on the field
because they were getting hit with bottle caps. You know,
there's there's this is a new psyche. So we'll see
what ends up happening. But don't get it twisted. I
believe in this Texas football team. But yeah, but we
(10:17):
got to be able to establish some things first.
Speaker 2 (10:20):
Yeah, and I think that Texas is gonna be able
to establish something because the number one thing that Texas
lacked last year and improved in the crunch time, when
you got inside the ten, they didn't have a hammer,
they didn't have a pile driver, and now they got
one back. Coach Shark said last week before I left
and came across the pond that he was so comfortable
(10:44):
with seeing how Baxter was performing. And I think that
that takes a lot of pressure off you. If you
know you got a guy two hundred and thirty five
pounds that's gonna run straight at you and try to
run over you, that's gonna help Archer's confidence and the
sprint option and to be able to get outside the
pocket and.
Speaker 3 (11:03):
Throw the ball at angles.
Speaker 2 (11:05):
It's gonna be hard on teams, and this would be
hard on a real experience defense that had a coordinator
that was experienced.
Speaker 1 (11:14):
With this team, I believe in the height, but I
also understand that it takes a lot when you're going
up against a team that's returning to their defensive front
and you got a new offensive line as well. So
there's a lot that we're gonna end up discussing all week.
This is game Week, Baby on a Long Horn Monday.
Coming up next, we're going across the pod where there
(11:37):
were some issues and some of it was family matters.
What we'll talk about it right here on the morning
kickoff on Sports Radio and thirteen hundred the zone.
Speaker 3 (11:49):
That's right.
Speaker 1 (11:50):
Five days, Chance Mock Days, James Brown Days, Jeremy Hills Days,
Terrell Brown Day.
Speaker 4 (11:58):
I mean five do you need and what you need
to know?
Speaker 1 (12:03):
But we are here ready for college football. Coming up
in the next segment, we'll have our hard Knocks life
segment where we will talk about some of the things
Texas was focused on this offseason and heading into fall camp.
Because now all of it stops and it's time to
(12:25):
get to work.
Speaker 4 (12:26):
Man, I cannot wigh mark.
Speaker 1 (12:29):
You are across the pond and there's a lot of
people that were in Dublin, Ireland enjoying the guinness. Some
enjoyed a little bit too much of it. We'll get
into that in just a second. But something about playing
football early in the season that creates some Let's just
(12:53):
say there was a bunch of blunders that were going
on during the ball game.
Speaker 9 (12:57):
Perkins, fourth year, is the starting punter and Dylan Edwards,
very dangerous with the ball in his hands, has to
backpedal and bought them kicking it for cover by Iowa
State at.
Speaker 4 (13:07):
The eight yard line.
Speaker 9 (13:12):
Aiden Flora jumps on the loose ball and Iowa State
will have it goal.
Speaker 8 (13:16):
To go, one of the most dangerous weapons in the
Big twelve.
Speaker 10 (13:27):
Dylan Edwards a constantly mistake to start this game off
forber Last year, Kansas State fumbled into a touchdown for
Iowa State and Dylan Edwards. We've all been waiting to
see him get his hands with the football. He just
muffs it. Build there with the head and a huge recovery.
Speaker 1 (13:44):
And he wasn't by himself, Mark Dylan Edwards, that was
the young man that played for Colorado. He had transferred
out of Colorado and went to k State electrifying player.
Speaker 4 (13:55):
But he wasn't by himself.
Speaker 1 (13:56):
He wasn't the only one having the slippery fingers.
Speaker 9 (14:03):
Catch the sun on the brown in Kansas State falls
on it. It's Austin Romaine coming.
Speaker 4 (14:10):
Up in the football.
Speaker 9 (14:11):
Two turnovers in ten minutes, Aaron Tumbler.
Speaker 1 (14:16):
Two turnovers in five minutes. But you thought it was over,
Not so fast.
Speaker 8 (14:21):
My friend Kill Edwards typically would be catching that pass.
Speaker 9 (14:25):
Joe Jackson would crome down here and he fumbles the
ball catch a cover by Iowa State right into the
arms of Tayshawn James.
Speaker 4 (14:33):
Another lost fumble.
Speaker 3 (14:35):
There was a big man.
Speaker 4 (14:36):
Let me just tell you this.
Speaker 1 (14:38):
Both teams lost two fumbles, four turnovers, two of them
in five minutes.
Speaker 4 (14:44):
Just sloppy, sloppy football.
Speaker 1 (14:47):
And I had a buddy of mine text meet j T,
and he goes, man, this is hard to watch.
Speaker 3 (14:52):
I said.
Speaker 1 (14:52):
Coach sark is having ball security conversations right now. These
are the types of games that you look and you
watch and you say, oh my gosh, do we have
all of this covered? Oh my gosh. As a coach,
you're watching other teams and seeing their mishaps, and you're
replaying things in your head about how we can prevent
(15:14):
these types of moments. Those are the things that I
was talking about Mark being able to establish yourself. It's
got to take some time to get your footing back
and then you can go. And the game ended up
being a really good game where Iowa State ends up
beating them twenty four to twenty one. But let's just
say in the very beginning it was not esthetically pleasing.
Speaker 3 (15:38):
No, not at all.
Speaker 2 (15:39):
And first of all, on the as it relates to
number five, I got five on it, you do, But
I think the biggest bumble hard was the I don't
know if you would say it was just a bad
look by Avery's family.
Speaker 4 (16:00):
Oh yeah, that in just a moment.
Speaker 3 (16:02):
Yeah, yeah, man, those a lot of fumbles, a lot
of mishaps.
Speaker 2 (16:06):
As far as on the field, we will get into
the footing of the field, but harsh, they're sand on
the On soccer fields.
Speaker 3 (16:18):
You ever see a.
Speaker 2 (16:19):
Player take off running and slide on their knees like
the field is designed so you don't roll your ankles
and that you don't get the kind of traction that's required.
Speaker 3 (16:30):
Of you, uh in football and American football.
Speaker 2 (16:35):
Yeah, well so if I got if I got a
sandy ball, of course you're not gonna be able to
hold on to it like you would, uh if you
didn't have sand all over your hands. Go to the
beach and try to play football and see what happens.
Speaker 1 (16:50):
Well, the one thing that I always look at and
I try to get people to understand is in this
particular time when you know that you're going overseas and
you're playing on a field that does not have good
footing or great footing, because most of these feels, to
your point, these are soccer pitches. So this isn't ready
(17:13):
for the cutting and the real three hundred and fifty
pounds linemen that are trying to push off in those
particular moments. But here is the real truth of it.
Ball security is a real thing. The pressure of some
of these games create something everybody's not going to have
(17:33):
the same mentality of let's say Mark Henry in the
point of been there, done that, some guys these moments
are really big early in the season, and that is why,
that is why I was saying. What I was saying
in the first segment is look, we don't know how
some of these guys are going to react. Yes, we
(17:54):
know that they are built for this. They know that
they've been on big stages and we've seen it from
the Fire and seven to where Texas is now. They
expect people to come at them a little bit crazy.
They expect the other team's crowds to be a little
bit rowdy. But until you walk into that arena, you
(18:14):
don't know what your body's going to do.
Speaker 4 (18:16):
You can prepare yourself as best as you can, but
when you walk.
Speaker 1 (18:20):
In there, you don't always know how you're gonna react
right away.
Speaker 3 (18:24):
Well, you always heard the turn that pressure bust pipe.
Speaker 2 (18:27):
Absolutely, and a lot of pressure is because people heat
the pressure on themselves, not because of expectation. So like
coach Sark, I think has done a good job. And
we talked about this hard the whole entire summer that
everybody seems to be on the same page. Everybody is
(18:47):
saying the same thing, like when you have that continuity,
And we talked about continuity as well with the coaches
coming back, Well they lost a couple of coaches, but
they replace those coaches is early, early in the process.
It's not like that it took them forever to get
people to come in and uh establish themselves as coaches
(19:10):
and recruiters. So like Texas has done a great job.
I don't think that the pressure of everything being on
par Is at hand. I think it's gonna be individual pressure.
I think the guys are gonna have to get out
there and get that first hit, that first tackle, that
first run or reception, first cover, and and and then
(19:34):
once you once you get that out the way, you go.
Speaker 3 (19:36):
I think these guys are gonna be fine.
Speaker 1 (19:38):
Yeah, like you said, it's that first hit. Once before
you got the butterflies, but after you get hit, after
you make a throw, after you do the things that
you are put here to do. It also makes you
get to that point of all right, let's go now,
I'm back to playing football like I know how to play.
But here's the other part of it, that our conversation
(19:58):
that we were having. You just brought it up after
the game. The Johnson family got into a fight, but
it wasn't with the Isslewa State fans. It was with
each other, which is something that what was said, what
was done? Why did we get to this point? I
don't know, Mark, I don't know.
Speaker 3 (20:21):
Listen, the biggest embarrassment is for Avery.
Speaker 2 (20:25):
And if anybody was a voice of reason, they should
have been able to say, guys, we are making Avery
look bad like we got disagreement. Let's handle it somewhere
where it's just us, Like, let's.
Speaker 3 (20:39):
Don't do this in front of a world stage. Because
it wasn't a national stage.
Speaker 2 (20:44):
It was a world stage in the way that their
family looked.
Speaker 3 (20:50):
And the video was embarrassing.
Speaker 4 (20:53):
Hey, they was getting it in though.
Speaker 3 (20:56):
I knew you and love it. I knew you and
love it.
Speaker 1 (21:01):
The Guinnesses was flying, brother, you can't be having an
international event, and it said we Well, they did give
it up.
Speaker 4 (21:09):
They did give it a public apology.
Speaker 1 (21:11):
We sincerely apologize for our actions following yesterday's football game
in Ireland. Since senseless bickering escalated into an unnecessary fight,
we have resolved our differences and take full responsibility for
our actions. We have apologized to our immediate and extended family,
(21:32):
and now extend our apologies to the k State University
it's alumni in fans. We regret this incident, and we've
learned from it and have committed to ensuring it doesn't
happen again. Please accept our deepest apologies. Mark and Anthony Johnson.
In other words, my bad. The biggest story to come
(21:54):
out of that Mark, And if you follow I mean,
I'm sure you was following the the circus.
Speaker 4 (22:00):
Which was that they were like, wait, Avery's black.
Speaker 10 (22:09):
They did not realize that Avery Johnson was down with
the brown.
Speaker 3 (22:18):
Oh my gosh, that's too much.
Speaker 1 (22:21):
Coming up next, we'll continue the conversations maybe, but we're
definitely gonna talk about the Texas Longhorns, what the expectations
are and some of the things that they have been
working on all off season and training camp to prepare
for the trip to Ohio State.
Speaker 4 (22:39):
It's a long Horns.
Speaker 1 (22:40):
Monday edition of The Morning Kickoff right here on Sports
Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone. Welcome back to the
morning kickoff right here on sports Radio AM thirteen hundred
The Zone. Make sure you tuned in to the Zone
all day long, obviously, but make sure you tuned in.
At eleven o'clock is Craigway, myself and Can Parker will
(23:00):
be at the stadium for press conference number one of
the regular season with our guy coach Steve Sakesian as
we kick off the Texas football season. Then, of course,
listen to the Craig Wait Show this afternoon at two
to five, so we will see exactly what's going on
(23:20):
as we prepare for.
Speaker 4 (23:21):
The season as well.
Speaker 1 (23:23):
But Mark, I want to get into this right now
because two things. Number One, have a fantasy draft yesterday, Bro,
my first I saw I saw it? Did you see that?
I was not a part of it? So you know
you don't want to talk about it no more. I
list your boy got an A. Let's just say that
your boy got an A on his fantasy draft. I
(23:46):
got an A, Kenny got an A plus, and.
Speaker 4 (23:50):
Pat Lee did as well.
Speaker 1 (23:52):
So as we go into the NFL football season, I
feel pretty good with my pick.
Speaker 4 (24:01):
Would you would you like to hear my team, I
guess I got Patrick.
Speaker 1 (24:10):
Mahomes as my quarterback, sa Kwon Barkley as my running
back along with Kenneth Walker the third, Davonte Adams, Tyreek Hill,
Sam Laporter, Rashid Rice, Evan McPherson as my kicker, and
the Bill's defense.
Speaker 4 (24:28):
How do you feel about who you have at tight end?
Sam laport from SAT Detroit.
Speaker 2 (24:34):
So, so, I know that Treek Hill and Sam laporta
failed because they're not popular after last season, and you
you kept your ear to the street.
Speaker 3 (24:45):
I see what you're doing.
Speaker 1 (24:46):
Yeah, my hustle don't stop. Maybe it's just not what
I do. It's not what I do, but I do.
Speaker 3 (24:51):
Did you go back to back running backs?
Speaker 4 (24:53):
I did?
Speaker 3 (24:55):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (24:56):
Yeah, Yeah, this ain't my first my first draft, this
ain't my I'm.
Speaker 2 (25:00):
Not insufficient, okay, okay, I am not gonna pick with
my heart this year.
Speaker 4 (25:06):
Yeah. We had a discussion about that.
Speaker 2 (25:08):
Yeah, we went through it, and I'm I'm not gonna
do what I've done in years past and see if there's.
Speaker 3 (25:13):
A different results.
Speaker 4 (25:15):
I hope that for you, brother, I hope that for you.
Speaker 2 (25:18):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (25:19):
One thing that I do hope is this Texas offense
gets locked in at the start of the Texas football
season new quarterback, but the expectations have been as high
as they have ever been on the forty acres and
last week they were asked, what is so crucial This
was seven to ten days that they needed to clean
(25:40):
up as they got ready to go to Ohio State.
Speaker 11 (25:44):
Yeah, I think that, you know, naturally, you know, what
are your major concerns when you go into a week one? Right,
you think about ball security, think about tackling on defense,
you think about the pre snap penalties, and then you
think about special teams. Those are the main things that
like like, okay, how do how do we how do
(26:04):
we how do we not you know, how do we
take care of the ball really well? How do we
work on tackling? And what's that fine line of tackling
too much, not and not enough so that you can
tackle really well in a week one, making sure that
we're not giving away free yards, you know, before the
ball is even snapped, whether that's false starts, whether that's
jumping off sides on defense, having the discipline there, and
(26:26):
then how do you how do you play sound on
special teams? You know, there's so many there's so much
hidden yardage in special teams, you know, whether it's punting
the ball, returning the ball points off the board, you know,
making your field goals, you know, finding finding areas where
you maybe block a punt, block of kick, things of
that nature. So all that that those are kind of
my main areas now. Naturally, every guy is going to
(26:47):
walk out of our meetings tomorrow and they say, hey,
I got to get better at X, Y or Z,
and so everybody's going individual things to work on. But
big picture for me, it's like, can we take care
of those four areas? And if we can do that
in those four areas, I think the rest of the
game will kind of take care of itself that way
and we'll find out if we're good enough or not.
Speaker 1 (27:04):
And the other part, the first thing that he said
was ball security. That's something that we've all talked about.
But the other part of it is the pre snap.
It is pre snap on the road things that you
have to do to make sure that these things happen.
Speaker 11 (27:21):
Clearly, you know, I think that we focus on ourselves.
You know, you guys have heard me say it time
and time again. We're enamor with us. We try not
to get caught up in the opponent. We try not
to get caught up in the environment, the crowd, the weather,
whatever it is. And we try to be as tight
as we can as a team, and we try to
(27:41):
lean into one another. And you know, sometimes going on
the road, you got less people, you can only travel
so many. It's a tighter knit group. I think that
that's that's very helpful that way. I think there's there's
something about the poison composure that we operate with on
the road, in the way that we go do it.
Speaker 4 (28:01):
And I think there's something.
Speaker 11 (28:02):
About you know, when when there's everybody's against you, right,
there's something about that and our pride and the way
that we need to stand up and handle our business.
And so hey, I don't know that. I don't know
if that there's some secret sauce. You know, we're routine
routino operation. You know, as much as some of us
(28:22):
want us to change our routine on the road, we
stuck with it way back in the day when we
weren't a great routine and over time, over time, guys
found the routine of what we did and why we
did what we did, and we started to change the
narrative of who we were as a road team. And
now that's built that that We've built confidence through that
and the guys knowing, like, hey man, when we do X,
(28:43):
Y and Z and we do it the right way,
we're going to put ourselves in position to have some success. Now, ultimately,
you have to perform right, and you got to play
with the right sense of physicality. You got to execute
at a high level. You got to make plays at
critical moments when they're needed. But you got to put
yourself in position to do those things. And I think
the routine of which we go about it allows us
to put us in that position. And we've been fortunate
(29:05):
enough where our players have responded at critical moments on
the road when we've needed it.
Speaker 4 (29:09):
You see what I'm talking about, Yeah, Marge, that.
Speaker 2 (29:14):
Whole segment reminded me of a speech that Jimmy Johnson
gave the Cowboys back when we were great, And Jimmy
Johnson said, we're going on the road, and imagine somebody
coming into your house, opening your refrigerator and throwing everything
(29:35):
on the floor. The gall the audacity, that's what we
got to bring to them.
Speaker 3 (29:45):
We're going in their house. We better bring that.
Speaker 2 (29:48):
God, we better bring that intensity because otherwise they're gonna.
Speaker 3 (29:53):
Bounce us out of their house on our ear.
Speaker 2 (29:56):
And I thought to myself, Jimmy Johnson look at the
very differently than a lot of coaches.
Speaker 3 (30:04):
I had never heard a coach talk about we got
to be so aggressive breaking.
Speaker 2 (30:09):
Into somebody else's house that we got to make them leave.
And I saw the realty of it the way that
he described it.
Speaker 3 (30:19):
I hope that Texas goes in there with that mentality.
Speaker 1 (30:22):
I think with some of the players that Texas has,
I think there's no doubt in their mind. They're coming
in there to rearrange some furniture. But before we go,
I want you to hear about the improvements that they
made with the pre snap.
Speaker 5 (30:35):
Yeah, I think always early in camp we're going to
have some pre snap penalties, But obviously it's on me
to get the operational piece before the snap figured out.
Speaker 4 (30:45):
And I think we've done a better job of that.
Speaker 1 (30:46):
QB One speaking to the fact that the work has
been done. Now it's time to go out there to perform.
We got a big, big week, we got.
Speaker 4 (30:56):
A big day.
Speaker 1 (30:57):
Don't forget listen to the the press conference.
Speaker 3 (31:01):
Right here.
Speaker 1 (31:01):
We are your home on AM thirteen hundred The Zone
of the Texas Longhorns, all things Texas Longhorns, and we'll
start that all up today at eleven o'clock. But coming
up next, speaking of getting to the mountaintop, someone finally
got there and it took them.
Speaker 4 (31:19):
A long time, but hey, it don't matter how long
it takes, you just get there.
Speaker 1 (31:24):
Right here on the morning kickoff on sports Radio AM
thirteen hundred, the Zone. Our number one is almost in
the books. Coming up in hour number two. We've got
so much to get into NFL making cuts and players
are making moves, and there's some hater in the league
and it just continues to get worse. But right now,
(31:46):
I really want to dive into this conversation, Mark, because
the game of golf, we already know is very challenging.
There's guys that have been on the tour for years,
there's guys that have made the jump to go from
PGA to live and just finding ways to be in
the conversation. We know we've talked about this. Baseball. It
(32:11):
just seems to be the hardest sport. You got a
baseball coming at you ninety five miles an hour to
one hundred and five miles an hour. You're trying to
hit it and it's also moving. You got nine guys
that are out there trying to stop you from from
getting a hit. Well, in this sport, the sport of golf,
it is even tougher because you're fighting your own demons.
(32:33):
You have your own mental block, and one of those
guys that had a mental.
Speaker 4 (32:39):
Block was Tommy Fleetwood.
Speaker 1 (32:42):
Well, he finally broke through that glass and now he
is a finally a champion.
Speaker 9 (32:49):
The agonizing motives over Fleetwood finally for everything.
Speaker 1 (33:21):
After fifteen years, forty four top ten finishes, thirty top
five PGA Tour finishes, never won a tournament.
Speaker 4 (33:35):
Now he is the champion. He gets the big money
and all year long.
Speaker 1 (33:40):
We've talked about Scotty Scheffler, Scotty Scheffler.
Speaker 4 (33:43):
What he's been able to do.
Speaker 1 (33:45):
But boom, there he is Tommy Fleetwood Tour Champion, FedEx
Cup Champion.
Speaker 3 (33:53):
Golf is different.
Speaker 2 (33:55):
Like you can compete in football, golf Marvel, I mean, golf,
but other sports, tennis, you're competing against somebody, and golf,
even though you're in a competition with other people, you're
really competing against yourself. And that course which you know
(34:16):
is not a living thing, but it can give you
just as.
Speaker 3 (34:19):
Many dangers as a living thing.
Speaker 2 (34:22):
And I'm sure that now that mental block is gone,
I can see him now winning more just because he
did get over the hump mental blocks. And golf is
way stronger than having Anthony Hill stand in the middle
of the field and you got to go run at him,
(34:45):
like when your mind tells you that, oh, I'm not
good at this.
Speaker 3 (34:48):
Oh I always have trouble with courses like this.
Speaker 2 (34:52):
You know, I can't hit a blind shot around a
dog leg like you. Those are things that are manufacturing
your brain. So him getting over that, man, most kudos
to him.
Speaker 3 (35:07):
Yeah, it is.
Speaker 4 (35:09):
Oh man.
Speaker 1 (35:10):
You start to think about how you work your behind
off to be an elite athlete in so many different areas,
especially in golf.
Speaker 4 (35:20):
You know you have been there. You're right there every
single week.
Speaker 1 (35:27):
One hundred and sixty four starts and he does not
get the victory until yesterday. Wow, forty four top ten finishes,
forty four top ten finishes, and you're right there. And
we've seen him come into the Sunday and fade not
because he's he's choked, it's because the other guys have
(35:49):
come like a Tiger Woods, like Scotty Scheffler, Jordan speak,
the guys that have made those runs against him to
beat him, A John Ram, a Bryson Deshambo. D Are
you sure that he didn't joke he came up short
on a couple of them.
Speaker 4 (36:09):
I mean it's just the pressure, man. I mean it
goes back to my point.
Speaker 1 (36:14):
There's pressures that are unseen that you start to feel.
Speaker 4 (36:19):
You heard it before the Tiger roar is real. You
think you got Tiger Woods beat.
Speaker 1 (36:26):
Then all of a sudden, he's on whole number nine
and you're on whole number fifteen, and you hear this
loud noise of Tiger sinking a forty foot putt and
you're like, oh my god, here he comes here.
Speaker 4 (36:40):
I'm lurking, he's lurking.
Speaker 3 (36:43):
Oh right, have you can you hit like dog leg shots? Yeah?
Speaker 4 (36:46):
I can't, Mom, it's not on purpose though, you know.
Speaker 3 (36:51):
I didn't say sha, I said. I'm like, I'm sure
he hit the dog leg curve.
Speaker 4 (36:58):
I can I can? Yes, yes, you do it in
your I can I hit the ball straight?
Speaker 3 (37:04):
That's it.
Speaker 2 (37:05):
And people used to tell me, oh man, you got
it halfway be you can hit the ball straight, you
can keep it out the woods. I have never shot
better than eighteen, never because I can't hit all the shots.
There's stuff in his mind and I know it.
Speaker 3 (37:25):
I know I can't do it. There are things that
I guarantee you that he realized. You know what, man,
I got to get over my fear of not being
able to do this and try.
Speaker 2 (37:36):
And when when you're able to do stuff like that
and break that cycle, I think that it opens up
for you to be more of a champion because now
you realize, Okay, the blinders are off, I can see
the whole field.
Speaker 4 (37:50):
So let me ask you this.
Speaker 1 (37:51):
Do you believe you believe that this is now the
time for him to roll and he'll get a chance
to probably win some more events. Yeah, I mean, because,
like you said, him limited, he's been in the top
ten forty four times. Yeah, so now without that limitation,
(38:13):
disguise the limit. Yeah, that's definitely something that a lot
of folks will be paying attention to moving forward. But
kudos to him for finally breaking that glass and getting
over the hump. And now let's see where it takes him.
Our number one is in the books. Our number two
is just around the corner. We've got so much more.
(38:35):
It is game week, folks, but some people's football dreams
come to an end. We'll talk about it right here
on the Morning Kickoff on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred Zone.
Welcome back to our number two of the Morning Kickoff
right here on a Long Horns Monday edition of It All.
We are in game week, folks, and we started the
(38:56):
show talking about the game and what the expectations are.
We also broke down what happened overseas over the pond
as the Iowa.
Speaker 11 (39:08):
State Cyclones beat the case They Wildcats.
Speaker 1 (39:12):
In a twenty four to twenty one kind of sloppy
college football game. We also talked about pre snap and
gave a shout out to Tommy Fleetwood. We're gonna talk
NFL right now, but a little bit later we're gonna
hear from Mark Henry in his world's strongest take.
Speaker 4 (39:30):
Mark, what you got, Bud Well heard?
Speaker 2 (39:33):
We talked about the game mode that opened the season
between the Cyclones and the Wildcats, and I'm.
Speaker 3 (39:42):
Going to get in depth more with the field situation.
Speaker 4 (39:46):
No doubt.
Speaker 1 (39:46):
All right, I'd love to hear what you have to
say about that. We're also getting news out of Michigan.
Michigan is going to start their five star recruit, the
one that they paid a lot of money to get
to come to that university. Bryce Underwood will be named
the starting quarterback for the Michigan Wolverines. And we'll talk
(40:07):
a little bit about right now. We'll talk about the
college football games that have happened over the weekend. As
we said, Iowa State, the number twenty two ranked team,
defeated the seventeenth ranked k State Wildcats twenty four to
twenty one. UNLV defeated Idaho State thirty eight to thirty one.
(40:28):
Kansas Jayhawks with Jayden Daniels was able to go out
there and really put it on Fresno State thirty one
to seven. Texas opponent Sam Houston got defeated by Western
Kentucky forty one to twenty four. Texas will play Sam
Houston the fourth game of the season night game at
(40:53):
dk our first night game of the season for the Texas.
Longhorns and Hawaii defeat Stanford and walk off fashion with
the big kick twenty three to twenty. This Thursday, we
have Boise Steak, the number twenty five ranked team, taking
on South Florida to kickoff Labor Day weekend with all
(41:15):
the big games. And we'll talk about the big games
coming up in the next segment, But Mark NFL is
making cuts. We got a chance to see a lot
of games this past weekend. They were all trying to
make their decisions, make their final impressions on a lot
of coaches, whether it's on their team or on another team.
(41:38):
And some of these guys they did not make the
most of their opportunities, but some did. Some did, And
I want you to hear, because you know, there's some
things that happen in Dallas that kind of get us
a little bit excited, but sometimes too early.
Speaker 4 (41:55):
Holding down the middle.
Speaker 9 (42:02):
Sixty four yards from Brandon Aubrey.
Speaker 4 (42:08):
As long in his career, sixty five this if you had.
Speaker 9 (42:11):
With the first What a weapon, Brandon Aubrey.
Speaker 4 (42:14):
That's the key right there.
Speaker 1 (42:16):
What a weapon for the Dallas Cowboys to have a
Brandon Aubrey to be able to kick that ball the
way that he is.
Speaker 2 (42:24):
It's great to have that in the chamber, to have
that one round just in case, but hard I don't
want to use that. I don't want to use that,
no doubt, you know.
Speaker 3 (42:38):
What I want.
Speaker 12 (42:39):
I want seven to ten play drives that end in
a score.
Speaker 3 (42:45):
How about to touchdown?
Speaker 1 (42:47):
Well, I'm glad you brought that up, because one Joe
Milton decided finally, finally to get into the end zone
a couple times. When you start to think, you know,
you look at the those passes. You look at the
way he was getting it done. Joe Milton was using
his legs finally. And you know, I was not a
big fan of Joe Milton and what he was able
(43:09):
to do, but he did stretch the field one time, Tess.
Speaker 4 (43:14):
That Cannibal arm to drop the ball between the numbers.
Now going for the end zone to jaylen Brooks.
Speaker 10 (43:21):
He got some least.
Speaker 9 (43:22):
Second separation and he's got a touchdown.
Speaker 4 (43:30):
And Joe Milton put air under the ball.
Speaker 1 (43:33):
Bill first time you saw that. You hear the excitement
in his voice. He put some air under the ball.
Oh my god, he used touch What happened?
Speaker 3 (43:44):
How did that happen?
Speaker 1 (43:45):
He didn't try to throw it through the wall and
make it in completion. But yes, there are some things
that Joe Milton was able to do. I'm not gonna
I'm not gonna beat him up today because he is
going to be the backup quarterback for the Dallas But
I wanted to ask you this, Mark.
Speaker 4 (44:02):
I don't know if you saw the news and seeing
what was happening.
Speaker 1 (44:06):
Micah Parsons laying on the table during the middle of
the game, taking a nap on the trainer's table in
the middle of the game. Now he may not have
been sleep but the way the picture was caught, no
denying that he was laying on the table, no denying
that he looked like he was disengaged. He was the
(44:27):
only Cowboy to not dress all season, all training camp,
and he was becoming that distraction. Now you and I
understand contract disputes, we get it all, but you are
under contract number one, number two. Be a little bit
(44:48):
more classy about the things that you're doing, and don't
be that guy. I got a text from three people
that know I'm a huge Cowboy fan that cover the Cowboys.
Speaker 4 (45:00):
They sent me a thing.
Speaker 3 (45:01):
Is this your ky?
Speaker 1 (45:02):
Is this your kids? Like Wakanda forever? I'm like, man,
what in the world, why would he do that? It
was a bad, bad look for not only him, for
the Dallas Cowboys, but the optics of it all.
Speaker 2 (45:17):
Man, Well, I'm gonna tell you right now, Hard just
called immaturity, and it's called you know, being a powdy kid.
He's a kid at the end of the day. Hard,
remember when we were twenty one.
Speaker 3 (45:31):
Twenty two, it was going to tell us anything we thought.
Speaker 2 (45:35):
We knew it all and even if we willing accept
whatever punishment came, whatever we we listen, I know I'd
rather ask for forgiveness dan approval.
Speaker 3 (45:46):
Right at that age, that's where he is, He's there.
You gotta have strong leadership to guide somebody like him,
and the Cowboys don't have it.
Speaker 4 (45:58):
Yeah, I'm just that point now where he needs Tomlin.
Speaker 1 (46:03):
Well, even then, I wish that this would have been
a moment for Schottenheimer to be able to show that
I am the one running this team, especially in that
particular moment where your guy your guy that you're you're backing,
which I understand and I appreciate the fact that you
are backing him, But why is it that he cannot
(46:27):
show up and lock into the things that are going
to make him and because of.
Speaker 3 (46:32):
The zoo and the circus that's going on around him.
Speaker 2 (46:35):
That's why now, Shottenheimer, if he'd have had any salt,
he would have win right over there to that table
and say, hey, Michaeh, come stand over.
Speaker 3 (46:43):
Here by me.
Speaker 2 (46:43):
I want to ask you some questions about what we're
doing out here. And I would have engaged him. I
wouldn't have I wouldn't have broadbeat him. I wouldn't have
fussed at him. I wouldn't have done.
Speaker 3 (46:55):
None of that. Well, and then when we got when
we got by.
Speaker 2 (46:58):
Ourselves, I would say, man, I tried to make I
tried to make the situation better because you were.
Speaker 3 (47:07):
Not making the situation look better for you.
Speaker 1 (47:10):
Well, somebody who has watched the entire Dallas Cowboys documentary,
which by the way, has been phenomenal, phenomenal work, and
if you have not watched the Gambler and America's Team,
I would encourage you to do that. But here's the
thing that I learned during that time. When Jimmy Johnson
was in charge, it was no nonsense. He wasn't trying
(47:34):
to play with you. He was trying to win. And
if I'm Shottenheimer, I'm looking at this situation, Micah, I
need you. This is my first year as a head coach.
I need all hands on deck. I know you want
your money, but I need you to be engaged because
(47:56):
when we do start on the September the fourth, I
need to know that the fourth may be with me.
Speaker 4 (48:06):
That's what I need.
Speaker 1 (48:07):
I need Michael Parsons to be locked in and engaged.
And that is a terrible, terrible look. If you were
going to do that, I would have wish you wouldn't
have came to the facility.
Speaker 3 (48:23):
Hart.
Speaker 2 (48:23):
I know he's disappointed in himself because it looks bad.
Speaker 3 (48:28):
On every way you look at it. I mean front,
the back, side, and the side. It looks bad. And
I'm sure that prideful as he is, he can admit, damn,
what a horrible look.
Speaker 2 (48:41):
But the thing about him is he's a young guy
that I feel like he's going to bounce back from it.
Speaker 3 (48:47):
And the big start of that is to just go
ahead and pay the dude his money. Just give him
his money.
Speaker 1 (48:54):
Well, in case you miss Jerry Jones interview with one
Steven A. Smith, I'm not gonna do it, na, huh,
you ain't letting me do it. He was not happy
during that interview, and I'll try to find some clips
for tomorrow, but bro, he was Jerry is. Jerry says
(49:14):
we had a deal and the art of the deal
is keeping your word. And David Mugileta, I don't know
the situation. All I know is what we're being told
by one Jerry Jones, and until he comes out and
tells us differently, then we gotta go with what Jerah
is saying.
Speaker 4 (49:35):
But I know this, David always.
Speaker 1 (49:39):
Gets his guy his money and gets him his due,
so we will see what ends up happening. With that,
We're going back to the college game. We've got big
college football games this week and Brian Kelly, He's had
some tough.
Speaker 4 (49:54):
Things during openers of the season.
Speaker 1 (49:58):
Is LSU ready to get through the mountaintop With Brian Kelly,
we'll talk about that as well. Right here on the
morning kick off on a Longhorns Monday edition Sports Radio
AM thirteen hundred The Zone.
Speaker 4 (50:13):
Make sure you tuned in to AM thirteen.
Speaker 1 (50:16):
Hundred The Zone started at eleven o'clock as coach Steve
Sarkisian will have his weekly press conference that you can
always hear on AM thirteen hundred The Zone and always
free on the iHeartRadio app because we are your home
for Texas football. We've got some news that will be
announced today regarding the station as well, so make sure
(50:40):
you tuned in all day to find out the latest
regarding AM thirteen hundred, The Zone, and so many other
entities around Mark. Let's get into it, because college football
is about to kick off there is, well, it's already
kicked off, but the real season for a lot of people,
(51:01):
especially around here, is about to kick off as the
Texas Longhorns will be traveling to Ohio State. But there's
other games that will be going on this weekend that
have a lot to do with positioning for the college
football playoffs. And you're like, wait, we already talking about
their college football playoffs, and yes, we got to put
(51:24):
it into work right now. And obviously Texas playing Ohio
State will kick it off on Saturday eleven am on Fox.
But after that you get a chance to see Penn State,
who is in some regards they're the number two team.
They will take on Nevada Georgia, the number five team
(51:45):
will play Marshall. But Alabama and Florida State is a
game that a lot of people have circled. At two
point thirty on ABC, Alabama trying to rebound from last
year's nine win season where people were losing their mind
they won nine games, but Alabama, in certain people's eyes,
(52:07):
will be playing for a national championship, so it is
good to see what they have. Oklahoma Sooners will be
hosting Illinois State at five o'clock on ESPN plus. Florida,
one of Texas biggest opponents. The number fifteen ranked team
will be playing Long Island. Not really getting into that,
(52:28):
but the night game that everybody's going to be talking
about is LSU and the Clemson Tigers. LSU Grant nuss Meyer,
Clempson with k club Nick the Heisman Trophy favorite. But
the one thing about LSU, well mostly Brian Kelly, his
woes are not very good early in the season. He
(52:52):
is not good in season openers.
Speaker 7 (52:55):
Their butts off tonight and we're sitting here again, and
we're sitting here again talking about the same things.
Speaker 1 (53:05):
He was upset because his team continued to have some
struggles last season in the opener, but he's trying to
change that in twenty twenty.
Speaker 4 (53:16):
LSU has lost five straight openers.
Speaker 1 (53:19):
In twenty twenty, they lost to Mississippi State twenty twenty one,
UCLA twenty twenty two, Florida State twenty twenty three, Number
eight ranked Florida State twenty twenty four, they lost to
number twenty three ranked USC and now they will be
taking on the number four ranked Clemson Tigers.
Speaker 3 (53:43):
Man, I'm all evidence plowing to it. Just sounds like
they're one of those teams.
Speaker 2 (53:51):
That we talked about, like the Cincinnati Bengals, like they
just don't get off the good starts. And Cincinnati there's
some changing in their mental game to you know, remedy
that situation, right. And I think Joe Burrow is going
to be good and he's the LSU guys, so maybe
(54:13):
he was feeling the same thing.
Speaker 3 (54:15):
So possibly let's not wait around so much and just
gonna get.
Speaker 4 (54:20):
To it right.
Speaker 1 (54:21):
Well, the one thing that I always look at at
all of these games, it goes back to the conversation
we had earlier. You're trying to you do everything you
possibly can to scout your opponent, You do everything you
can to see certain areas of where you need to
be in these particular moments.
Speaker 4 (54:38):
But the one thing that always comes back to it
is execution.
Speaker 1 (54:42):
And he was talking about that because if you go
back and you watch a few of their games, they've
either turned the ball over, had some bad coverages, and
they've had some plays where they were not in the
right spots and he was not very happy about any
of that through those times. And for us, you look
(55:03):
at that game against Clemson. We saw what Clemson was
able to do. They came down, Texas had to make
a play at the end of the game to solidify
the victory against Clemson in that first playoff game in
the history of the university at home.
Speaker 2 (55:20):
So stop playing, right, That was a really, really good
coach and he's got that same Turkeysian mentality. We're gonna
keep playing until the clock expires exactly so. And and hey,
I'm looking forward to seeing Clempson have a good year
this year.
Speaker 3 (55:40):
Hart Yeah.
Speaker 1 (55:41):
And and a lot of folks Dabo has decided finally
to get into the the transfer. Yeah, he got into
the portal business and understood what the situation looked like.
And that's why to me, you start to understand that
Clipson is another team ranked number four to start the
(56:04):
season that a lot of people are looking at.
Speaker 4 (56:07):
To be part of that.
Speaker 1 (56:09):
I'm gonna say the college football playoffs, yes, but they're
the final four in those particular games.
Speaker 2 (56:17):
Hard just this is an interesting Saturday for the Henry family,
because your boy Jacob is gonna play in his first
college football game, no doubt.
Speaker 3 (56:28):
So we're we're excited as a family. Of course, I
will be over here.
Speaker 2 (56:32):
Across the pine, but us Miss Janner's gonna go there
hearing jud Joe and they're gonna go.
Speaker 3 (56:38):
And support him.
Speaker 4 (56:39):
That's that's awesome.
Speaker 1 (56:41):
Yeah, because that's why I kind of you know, I
was hoping you was gonna tell me when I brought
up the Oklahoma Sooners in their matchup.
Speaker 4 (56:48):
Uh So I was waiting waiting to hear from you
on that one. Big fella.
Speaker 2 (56:52):
Well, you know what hard I said that I was
gonna stay out of it because I want to be impartial,
and you know smart, that's your key. Yeah, Jacob is smart.
He won't tell me nothing because you know I'm gonna talk.
He's like dad snitches get stitches. I was like, when
(57:14):
you get getting ready to.
Speaker 1 (57:16):
Give me some let me know, we'll be prepared. We'll
be prepared. Tell him, you just go tell me that's it.
Speaker 2 (57:25):
Yeah, that's not gonna help nothing, because I'm gonna ask you, Harge,
what you think about who.
Speaker 1 (57:35):
My congratulations to Jacob with getting his opportunity went to
the University of Oklahoma to go as a wrestler, but
then he could not. He had to go out there
and find out what was going on on that football field.
And now he's found his way on to the football field.
So good luck to him. But you're right, we're definitely
(57:55):
rooting for Jacob.
Speaker 4 (57:57):
But that's it.
Speaker 1 (57:58):
That is it. I hope you play good Son, hope
you play marg and we're up there for up there in.
Speaker 3 (58:06):
Dallas for Texas.
Speaker 6 (58:07):
O U.
Speaker 3 (58:09):
I'm gonna look like Johnny Cash all black. You don't
want to do that.
Speaker 4 (58:14):
You might want to put on all white because it's gonna.
Speaker 10 (58:16):
Be hot, you know what.
Speaker 4 (58:20):
You're right, yeah myself, don't do that. Don't be doing that.
Speaker 1 (58:26):
Also, continuing into the weekend, on Sunday, you have Virginia
Tech in South Carolina, Shane Beemer playing against his dad's
old team in the Mercedes Benz Game, and the final
game on Sunday, Notre Dame taking on the you Miami
(58:46):
Hurricanes in Miami, and that will.
Speaker 3 (58:49):
Close out on much improved Miami Hurricane.
Speaker 1 (58:53):
Absolutely the much improved Miami and Hurricanes. So it is
going to be a fun, fun weekend. We're excited about
the football season and what it all goes into. I
know this that we've waited a very very long time
for this. We have waited, We've played our time, we
(59:15):
paid our.
Speaker 4 (59:15):
Dues, We've had a great offseason.
Speaker 1 (59:18):
Now we know who's going to be playing who next
season as far as the nine team playoff.
Speaker 4 (59:25):
But this is game week.
Speaker 1 (59:26):
This is where Texas fans get to really pound their chest.
And everybody's undefeated at this point except for obviously k
State some of those other teams that ended up losing
Sam Houston a Owen one, but other teams were able
to go out there and get big dubs, Charlton State
(59:48):
with a big win this weekend, a huge win on
ESPN on Saturday. So it is that time, man, all
the conversations are going to be about your team.
Speaker 3 (01:00:02):
Is this the year?
Speaker 1 (01:00:03):
And you know, just like Dallas Cowboy fans, this our year,
this our year, here were every year, it's our year.
Coming up next, we've got the world's strongest man bringing
you his world's strongest take right here on the morning
kickoff on sports Radio AM thirteen hundred the Zoon.
Speaker 3 (01:00:23):
You heard the big drop.
Speaker 4 (01:00:24):
It can only mean one thing.
Speaker 1 (01:00:26):
WWE Hall of Famer and the World's Strongest Men.
Speaker 4 (01:00:30):
D Mark Henry brings you his world strongest take. Take
it away, big fellow. All right, what's happening man?
Speaker 3 (01:00:39):
You know what time it is?
Speaker 4 (01:00:40):
What time is it?
Speaker 2 (01:00:42):
Fime for the World's Strongest Take by the World's Strongest.
Speaker 3 (01:00:47):
Man, Marcus. Back then they didn't know me. Now I'm hot,
they all on me.
Speaker 2 (01:00:57):
Well, guys, my take today, as I said earlier, is
about the field conditions and why somebody must be smoking
dope on my floor.
Speaker 3 (01:01:16):
The alarm just went off.
Speaker 4 (01:01:19):
They knew you were to talk about the field conditions.
Speaker 3 (01:01:22):
They knew it.
Speaker 2 (01:01:25):
But the field conditions over here is way different than
the field conditions on an NFL or a college football field.
On a grass field, there is two layers of dirt
and sand beneath the field, so they drained properly. On
(01:01:49):
a turf field, they used a little rubber pellets, so
they create friction. They also give a level of padding
for the astro turf, and you can use long spikes
as well as metal spikes if you wanted to, but
they don't prefer that you use long spikes or metal
spikes on those type of fields. Well, when you're overseas
(01:02:15):
and you're playing on a soccer field, or you don't
even have to be overseas. You can go on a
soccer field over at the Old Too Arena right there
in Austin, Texas.
Speaker 3 (01:02:25):
And the grass is very thin.
Speaker 2 (01:02:29):
It's extremely flat, and they have sand inside the grass,
not just in a small layer of of dirt beneath
the grass, but mostly it's sand.
Speaker 3 (01:02:47):
A friend of mine that works for.
Speaker 2 (01:02:49):
Tony Kahan, who does the fields for the Jacksonville Jaguars,
had to go over to London when they first started
playing the series of games in the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Speaker 3 (01:03:08):
Or not the jack the.
Speaker 2 (01:03:11):
Soccer team, oh two team and in London Tony kass
two soccer teams, and he evaluated what they were gonna
need football wise on those fields, and he said that
they just requested them not to use long spikes. So
now they're actually playing with smaller rounder spikes or cleats
(01:03:38):
and you you're just not gonna.
Speaker 3 (01:03:40):
Get footing on get good footing on that grass.
Speaker 2 (01:03:44):
And you he used the example of you you see
how soccer players will take off running and they'll slide
on their knees. He said, the grass is softer, it's
not like you know a Bermuda grass are a.
Speaker 3 (01:04:00):
Uh crab grass or any grass that we have in
the United States.
Speaker 2 (01:04:05):
They use a specialized English bluegrass and it's very slick, harsh,
not to mention, as I said, it has.
Speaker 4 (01:04:15):
Sand in it.
Speaker 2 (01:04:16):
So they're gonna have to figure out or build a
stadium in some of these some of these retractable arenas
where you can build a stadium that has that capability,
like the Cowboys Stadium where you can pull one feel
out and put another feel in. Otherwise you're gonna have
(01:04:39):
issues at all of these international football games. They're gonna
play games all year long in the in in Europe
and I feel in Australia. So I feel like that
that's gonna be a problem going forward.
Speaker 1 (01:04:54):
What's say, or stop playing those games internationally or start
developing a as you said, the parts of the Let
me think about this, the parts that you plan on
going to, the fields that you go start going to
start bringing over grounds crews for that exactly. Let them
(01:05:17):
stay over there to get the fields ready for those matchups.
Because of what I was saying earlier, you got three
hundred and fifty pounds guys trying to go from sideline
to sideline that need to be on a better surface
because the soccer player's way what.
Speaker 4 (01:05:35):
One seventy eight and hard.
Speaker 2 (01:05:38):
They're telling them that to the NFL teams, Hey, we
don't want you to use one inch cleats or spikes
on our field.
Speaker 3 (01:05:47):
It'll damage I feel.
Speaker 4 (01:05:48):
Yeah, it makes no sense at all.
Speaker 2 (01:05:51):
That's why I use the Cowboys. The Cowboys finally did
something right, damn it. They They have a retractable feel.
The whole entire field will come out of the Cowboys
Stadium and you can put a turt feel in there.
You can take the turt field out, you can put
the grass field back in. They bring the they bring
(01:06:15):
the field outside so it could get weather, and then
they pulled. They pulled the entire field back into the
stadium like bill stadiums like that. That's the way it
should be at every stadium. Man.
Speaker 4 (01:06:32):
I just.
Speaker 1 (01:06:34):
I didn't know that they did it at the Cowboys stadium.
I knew they did it in Arizona. I knew they
did it there. I didn't know they were doing that
at Dallas. That's good the Cowboys. The Cowboys stadium field
comes out too.
Speaker 4 (01:06:47):
Wow wow.
Speaker 3 (01:06:48):
And it's safe. It's safe.
Speaker 1 (01:06:50):
Hard because that.
Speaker 2 (01:06:52):
Grass when it gets damaged. Every game the grass gets
damaged and you have to take it outside fertilize it water.
The crew guys, the guy Jacksonville, like his field is outside,
so they have to use measures.
Speaker 3 (01:07:08):
To protect the field.
Speaker 2 (01:07:09):
It's got a special draining system where they can actually
turn on pumps and pull water out of the grass.
If it's too wet, they they can put they can
put humidifiers and spray mist to make the grass the same,
the right optimum temperature and everything to promote the growth.
Speaker 3 (01:07:33):
Like man like this is crazy.
Speaker 2 (01:07:36):
You look at you play baseball all those years and
you see the manicurist of the of the baseball fields.
It's the same technology. They have to know what the
surface is and what is required of it. American football
going to the UK is going to cause a lot
(01:07:56):
of guys to be damaged, especially the linemen, the wire
receivers and cornerbacks. They're gonna be fine because that just
a faster surface for them. But what happens on the
faster surface you have to use your brakes and when
you start bringing down, you're gonna get hurt.
Speaker 3 (01:08:15):
Because you're gonna slide. So like there's it's very different man.
Speaker 2 (01:08:21):
Like, if you run double routes and you run some
stuff where you put the defensive backs on skates, you're
gonna see a lot of defensive backs fall down or
misread their coverages because.
Speaker 3 (01:08:34):
They just don't want to slip and fall.
Speaker 2 (01:08:36):
And that's what happened in that first college game, that
first touchdown that that Avery Johnson threw. The cornerback slowed
down and could not accelerate fast enough to get to
the wire receivers.
Speaker 4 (01:08:51):
Or my man was just too fast.
Speaker 10 (01:08:56):
There.
Speaker 1 (01:08:56):
He is the world struggest men, bringing you his worlds
strongest take. We're gonna close out the show and send
you to Dan Patrick. What is going on in Cleveland?

which starts every week at eleven thirty. Maybe making some
changes once the season starts, but as the season is
starting today we will have Coach Sark at eleven thirty,
but Craig Way, myself and Cam Parker will be at
the stadium for the press conference. So it's an exciting
(01:10:46):
exciting time. Stay locked in all day long.
Speaker 4 (01:10:51):
What's so Mark?
Speaker 2 (01:10:52):
Yeah that I wish I was there, man, because there's
a couple of questions I like to ask. I'm excited.
I think that I want to see if Coach Sark
is still having fun in this process. It's so business
and sometimes you get carried, you get so caught up
in the day to day monotonous that you you tend to.
Speaker 7 (01:11:15):
Have to.
Speaker 3 (01:11:17):
Put on the face.
Speaker 4 (01:11:18):
But is he having fun?
Speaker 3 (01:11:20):
I wanted to know if he's having fun.
Speaker 2 (01:11:22):
I'm having fun right now hard looking at my social media,
I'm taking a beaten because I said, uh, somebody must
be smoking dope. And the guy they started saying that
I sound like a grandfather is finding It's like, hey,
(01:11:42):
there's a lot of ways you can phrase it. Now,
you know, you sound like you're eighty years old. Hey, guys,
I am old. I'm sorry, that's just the way it
came out. Uh that's the way it is. I mean,
I'm not changing.
Speaker 1 (01:11:59):
Old school is old and you got to make it
work the way it works. But whatever whatever you did
to communicate to the people, they understood your plot.
Speaker 2 (01:12:09):
They understood what I was talking about exactly exactly.
Speaker 1 (01:12:12):
So I just wanted to make sure too that you
understood what was happening in Cleveland. There's a lot of
conversation about the fairness not fairness, of the quarterback battle.
Cleveland has told you that they are going to start
Joe Flacco. We're not sure who's going to be number two,
number three, but they did release Tyler Hudley and the
(01:12:33):
reason why this conversation is coming up. Dylan Gabriel went
out played well again rightfully so, but they believed that Shador,
who was playing behind the third string line, four string line,
that five of those starters were released right after the game,
so that lets you know that they weren't very good.
But here is one of the Cleveland podcasters that covers
(01:12:58):
the Browns.
Speaker 4 (01:12:59):
He let us you know exactly how this was going down.
Speaker 6 (01:13:02):
Biggest lie Kevin Stefanski ever told us this was an
open four way quarterback competition. What he should have said
is all four quarterbacks are going to have a chance
to compete, because that's technically what they did, but it
was never an actual competition. Shador and Dylan never had
a chance to outdole the two veterans in practice. It
was evidently clear by all the things, not that Stefanski said,
(01:13:23):
but that he did. Jason says this all the time.
Yet you have to follow their actions, not their words
sometimes and Shador, despite what he did against Carolina, never
got bumped up and had an opportunity to get more reps.
It was always despite the fact he didn't play at
all in the preseason, is probably going to be on
this roster, is probably going to be their backup. And
that tells me if it's a competition, then he didn't compete.
(01:13:46):
So how it was never a competition. Stefanski lied to us,
and as the head coach of a team, he has
every right to lie to us. The media gets lied
to by coaches and executives all the time. Gee, but
this whole notion that it was an open four man
competition could not have been further from the truth.
Speaker 4 (01:14:01):
And I agree with that one. And what are they
gonna do with the Shawn Jackson Watson?
Speaker 1 (01:14:08):
Watson, he was on the sideline, he was there, he
was engaged, and as I said, he's somebody that they
they're paying a lot of money too. That they're not
gonna tell him to take his ball and go home.
We'll pay you at home. No, you're gonna try to
find a way, which is why they they released Tyler Hutley.
Speaker 4 (01:14:27):
We knew they were doing that.
Speaker 1 (01:14:28):
I don't understand why he was even brought into that
quarterback circus number one, number two. They created this mockery
of this, this this battle that was never taking place.
And for number the last and final thing is, if
you knew that you were gonna release Hudley snoop Hudley,
why didn't you let Shadoor go back out there for
(01:14:51):
that two minute drive to have an opportunity to salvage
his day which was rough five He was sacked five times.
He didn't look comfortable, But again, I don't think you
would look comfortable back there, Mark, if you're all your alignment,
we're getting cut the next day.
Speaker 2 (01:15:07):
Yeah, And I looked at some of the film hard,
and there were times when Shadeur should have.
Speaker 3 (01:15:14):
Stepped up in the pocket.
Speaker 2 (01:15:16):
He did have adequate space to get the ball off,
and those are things that are.
Speaker 3 (01:15:23):
Just learning experiences.
Speaker 2 (01:15:24):
But I would rather learn that with my starting offensive line,
on my number two offensive line than the guys that
they were gonna cut.
Speaker 4 (01:15:31):
Yeah, yeah, it was. It was not a good look.
Speaker 1 (01:15:35):
Speaking of cut, the Dallas Cowboys are going to have
to make some hard decisions.
Speaker 4 (01:15:41):
It was brought up that your guy.
Speaker 1 (01:15:44):
Diggs is back, he has recompleted all of his training
and his rehab and he is ready and ready.
Speaker 4 (01:15:53):
To get back on the field. But is that going
to be right away? Not sure about that.
Speaker 1 (01:15:58):
You're gonna end up seeing how he works out this
week and try to work himself back into playing shape.
But we will see what happens there. The Micah Parsons
deal is kind of disturbing, so I'm hopeful. I'm hopeful
there's some resolution by the end of this week, and
of course the Houston Texans are ready to make their move.
(01:16:19):
I ended up drafting Nick Chubb yesterday as one of
my backup running backs who might end up being one
of my starters. Well, I mean he could be a
starter because I don't think that their starter is back
yet from injury.
Speaker 12 (01:16:35):
Mixing mix yeah, till he comes back, I would say
that Chubb.
Speaker 3 (01:16:42):
Is going to be the starter.
Speaker 4 (01:16:43):
Yeah, we will see about that.
Speaker 1 (01:16:45):
Coming up this week too, We've also got high school
football with all their non district slates will be happening.
Speaker 4 (01:16:53):
We'll talk a little bit about that.
Speaker 1 (01:16:55):
Some of the key matchups of the week will also
have coach Arc tomorrow.
Speaker 4 (01:17:01):
We'll hear his voice as he is meeting with the
media today to.
Speaker 1 (01:17:05):
Preview Ohio State versus the Texas Longhorse number one ranked
Texas Longhorns.
Speaker 12 (01:17:14):
I'm excited Mark were here. Now we started at the bottom.
Speaker 1 (01:17:18):
Now we here for Mark Henry, I'm harvall harj And
for Marcus, I just want you all to remember this.
We will be better tomorrow. Football season is here. Joe
Cook of Inside Texas. We have an announcement that would
be made here in just a little bit. We'll have
those guests and so much more right here on the
(01:17:39):
morning they kick off. And just remember this, folks, don't
believe everything you see, because even salt looks like sugar.
Speaker 4 (01:17:45):
Peace,
