Speaker 3 (02:06):
Hey, Mark, it is Monday.

Speaker 1 (02:08):
It is Longhorns Monday, and what better way to kick
off the week than saying this. The Texas Longhorn Athletic
Department has been recognized once again as the top athletic
department in the country. That's right, Mark, they have claimed
their fourth Director's Cup title. And I'm gonna tell you

(02:32):
this right now, Man, I'm gonna be one hundred percent
honest with you.

Speaker 3 (02:37):
For a long time, Bra, For a long time, Bra,
I did not know that that was don't I.

Speaker 1 (02:47):
I did not know until Chrystal Country got here, and
then all of a sudden people were like, Hey, we
want a Director's Cup And I'm like, what is that?

Speaker 3 (02:56):
What team? What is that?

Speaker 2 (03:00):
For the.

Speaker 1 (03:02):
Yes, it is the top athletic program in the country.
It earned two NCAA championships this year, seven top three finishes,
ten top five NCAA finishes, while winning a league best
eight eight SEC conference titles.

Speaker 3 (03:26):
Correct me if I'm wrong, Mark.

Speaker 1 (03:29):
Isn't this our first year in SEC, Texas's first year
in first year in SEC, and leading up to this
for a long time, a lot of people kept saying
Texas is not going We're not going to be able
to compete in that. Yeah, I think that's what the
rumor was.

Speaker 2 (03:46):
Gues what what we did, and I think the narrative
is over. I think it's the narrative now is was
it a flu right? And I don't think that coach Sar,
his success is fluke like so all of you. Paul Feinnbaum, Yeah,

(04:09):
I said your name. I suggest you get used to
it because you're you're you're playing a game that you're
not gonna win, no doubt. And Georgia, kudos to you.
You've been, you've been, You've been unbelievable. Kirby smart, top coach.

(04:31):
But there's a new sheriff in town. His name is
Steve Saksha.

Speaker 3 (04:36):
Yeah. Man, it has been one hell of a run.

Speaker 1 (04:39):
And again, whenever we talk to Chrisdale country, because he
comes on with us a lot and spends some time
with us, our conversations vary in so many different directions,
but the one thing that always is consistent is the
expectations from his coaching staffs, the conversation, the retreats that

(05:01):
he takes.

Speaker 3 (05:01):
Them on so they can be able.

Speaker 1 (05:04):
To make sure that they are are live and then
live in color every step of the way.

Speaker 3 (05:12):
They continue to do that.

Speaker 1 (05:14):
And I still remember from the very beginning when Texas
first started this little run on these awards, coach Sark said,
I need to be a part of that.

Speaker 3 (05:25):
We're winning him. But football hasn't done their part.

Speaker 1 (05:28):
You look at what Vic Schaeffer was able to do
when he came to the University of Texas, and how
quick that basketball program turned around. Respect to David Pierce
and what he was able to do with the baseball team.
But now you've got coach Los Nagel taking his team
into that. You bring in a Sean Miller now to

(05:49):
kind of change the way that things are done. Love
me some, Rtie. You know that's my boy twenty grande
all day. But now they made a change, so we're
moving in this direction. You look at swimming and diving
after they got rid of or not got rid of,
after Eddie Reeves retired, they brought in another national championship
women uh swimming and diving coach. You look at what

(06:12):
golf has been able to do. How many times we
talked about rowing, and now we have softball. You got
track and field, all those coaches and soccer, Angie Kelly.
You look at what has happened with this program in
the direction in which it has gone in. Because for
a while, let's be honest, man was catching all kinds

(06:35):
of smoke. We was catching all kinds of smoke. And
now with the new way of things in the new
format of college athletics Texas has now represented to the
fullest and it goes back to CDC Drew.

Speaker 2 (06:54):
Martin and his effort and yes, I iron yes coaches
with great psychology and philosophy that you can go and
pick the brain of one of your counterparts anytime of
the week.

Speaker 3 (07:08):
I'm sure you can get on the schedule.

Speaker 1 (07:10):
And I didn't even mention volleyball, didn't even mention Jared Ellen.

Speaker 3 (07:14):
That's what I'm saying.

Speaker 1 (07:15):
I mean, you start looking around and start understanding who, what, where,
and when and why, and you you really start to
understand that this program has continued continued to.

Speaker 3 (07:27):
Get better and better and better, and in the.

Speaker 1 (07:31):
Previous years they weren't even having all of these conversations,
and you just got to make sure that you continue
to move forward. We forgot we got beach volleyball now
and they are yes, and they are competing. So it
has been a really interesting yet fun time when you

(07:53):
start to understand what the University of Texas and I
know there's other people out there tech is tag that
wants to be part of the conversation Texas and I
get it. But right now, until you can get up
there and get those numbers like this university has when
it comes to this, when you win your fourth Directors

(08:14):
Cup in the last five years, when you when we
didn't even know what it was, Hey, welcome to the party, boy,
glad y'all to join us. I'm like, wait, this has
been going on for how long? Yeah, you start to understand.
Remember when Stanford used to win it all all the
time they finished third? They finished third? So it went uh,

(08:38):
Texas USC Stanford. Texas beat USC by one and a
half point. Wow, it's close, the closest.

Speaker 3 (08:51):
It's gonna get to win it.

Speaker 2 (08:54):
And and Stanford is standing over there with the arms
folded looking at Texas like you came in, stole my thunder.
It's been that way for a long time.

Speaker 1 (09:04):
And our guy over at Hornce twenty four to seven,
Chip Brown, and he posted then yeah he was the
athletic director.

Speaker 3 (09:13):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (09:13):
And Chip said, it's the closest finish of the award
in the thirty.

Speaker 3 (09:19):
Two year history. Wow. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (09:22):
And so Texas found a way to get it done
once again.

Speaker 3 (09:27):
And guess who helped us get the victory.

Speaker 1 (09:30):
Texas A and m's track team, because they were able
to tie USC for first place in the final standings
and instead of getting it all by themselves, they would
have got all the points, but because of Texas A
and M Thank you, Danny mccraig, Thank Bryce for me, Bryce,
wait to win your meet man.

Speaker 3 (09:49):
I love that for you.

Speaker 1 (09:50):
Dog, Not only am I proud of you, thank you
for helping the University of Texas low Land.

Speaker 3 (09:57):
Yeah, K Town, baby, K Town.

Speaker 1 (10:00):
So yeah, you start to look at all of this
and you believe that the program is headed in the
right direction and it's continuing to raise the bar. The
bar is being raised at every sport. Every coach understands
what it's like to be at this program. Every player
that walks those hallways and walks across they understand what

(10:21):
it's about and how the level of expectations are through
the roof.

Speaker 3 (10:27):
This is this is how this all goes down.

Speaker 2 (10:29):
Texas will not be entrusted to the week or the
timid go ahead sounded like dog, I'm going.

Speaker 4 (10:39):
Loo rollslegging now and never told me that never.

Speaker 3 (10:51):
That's what it's all about, right there.

Speaker 1 (10:53):
So what a great, great start to the week for
Texas Athletics. It is a Longhorns Monday edition of the
Morning Kickoff right here on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred
The Zone. And when we come back, we are going
to have more conversation about the University of Texas, talk
about the power rankings and is Texas overvalued.

Speaker 3 (11:17):
We'll explain everything that we're talking about.

Speaker 1 (11:21):
We're just getting started right here on a Long Horns
Monday edition of the Morning Kickoff on Sports Radio AM
thirteen hundred The Zone. Hairline like mone welcome back to
the Morning Kickoff. Right here on a Long Horse Monday
edition of the Morning Kickoff on Sports Radio AM thirteen

(11:42):
hundred The Zone, Mike Harballhard's World's Strongest Man, WWE Hall
of Famer, d Mark Henry, and of course we have
our guy Marcus coming up in the Hard Knox Life segment.
Coming up, I will talk about the NBA and all
of the zany nest that's going on with it, and
we'll close out the hour talking about Rafael Devers. But

(12:05):
we also want you to understand if you want to
follow us on our social media is all you got
to do is follow Mark Henry at the Mark Henry
on Social and I'm at Hardball Hearts, but most importantly
follow eight m thirteen hundred The Zone for all of
your sports conversation, Mark, Let's get right into this because,

(12:28):
as always, the preseason hype is just that football season
is around the corner. Texas Longhorns, Texas A and m
Georgia and Clemson is getting a lot of love. Ohio State,
the National champions, Oregon, Notre Dame. The list goes on

(12:49):
and on.

Speaker 3 (12:51):
Earlier.

Speaker 1 (12:51):
Yeah, but you start to think about in Alabama, they
gotta rebound from what they were before. They A lot
of folks are looking at the Kaylee on the board
and like, wait, what do we do? It's like, you
can't follow the goat, man, I mean, it's just you
just ca yeah, that first guy following the goat. It
makes it a little bit hard on the playoff out there.
But another team that a lot of folks believe need

(13:15):
to turn the corner is LSU. LSU is a team
with Brian Kelly. Brian Kelly had some remarks about what
he thought about Eli arch Manning. Did you see that
picture of arch Manning by the way they took him
to the hood. One of the players took them to
the crib and they were like, my QB is cooling

(13:36):
the hood in any hood.

Speaker 3 (13:37):
He could get down anyway, and.

Speaker 1 (13:40):
John ay Barry posted Malibu's Most Wanted. But you start
to look around college football and the expectations are through
the roof. ESPN came out with their Power rankings and
they were talking about all the different teams in all

(14:00):
different variables that goes into it, and those variables that
create this mindset of how do you predict which team
is going to be great? Teams are evaluated by the
following categories returning quarterback, likelihood of a multi year quarterback
on the roster, offensive line, defensive line, outlook, roster management,

(14:25):
star powered. That means all American national World contenders and
all conference contenders, and the coaching staff. And one of
the biggest stories about that is if you're looking at
this as a returning quarterback likely likelihood of a multi
year quarterback on roster, they gave themselves some wiggle room

(14:46):
because a lot of players, when you're returning a quarterback,
most of the time it's one that has been a backup.
It's very rare that in college football nowadays where the
quarterback is there for multiple years. Quen Yours obviously going
to the NFL, he was the starting quarterback and you
had Arch Manning, who is a multi year quarterback.

Speaker 3 (15:09):
On the roster. So you see where I'm going here.

Speaker 1 (15:13):
But the value of the University of Texas in LSU
and Georgia and all these other teams have always been evaluated.
So I want you to hear about the if you
were to talk to your cousin about where you want
to place your future bets on wins and losses over unders,

(15:35):
Yeah you know, and where would you play all this out?

Speaker 5 (15:39):
So going back to his point with Arch Manning and Texas,
are we overestimating arch Stark in the Texas language?

Speaker 3 (15:47):
Who's better the playoffs back to back years?

Speaker 6 (15:49):
Oh yeah, they might be the most overvalued team in
all of.

Speaker 3 (15:51):
College football this year. The win totals ten and a half.

Speaker 6 (15:53):
You're only playing twelve games, conference championships, playoffs, That stuff
doesn't count. I bet the under all we need are
two losses. I see loving to Ohio State to open
the season, and then as you work your way down
there are plenty of problems. Road game at Florida, road
game at Georgia. Fourth toughest schedule in the nation. So yeah,
under ten and a half, I think this is a
team that's very overvalued.

Speaker 3 (16:11):
Yeah, they've got a.

Speaker 5 (16:12):
Lot coming back, they have the quarterback almost. I mean
that you're right, that is a tough schedule. I'll say
this for you because we got to wrap it up.
But you like Clemson this year, and that's one of
the teams that you're keeping an eye on, and you've
already got a beat in LSU.

Speaker 3 (16:22):
Find me three losses on their schedule. We don't have time.

Speaker 5 (16:24):
There's not three loss some research rouring the commercial, right, No,
you will, I will.

Speaker 1 (16:30):
You start to think about that and you start to
look at how all of this is playing out. Do
you believe that Texas is overvalued at the fact that
ten and two you lose because it's over all under
ten and a half, you still if you pick the under,
you still can have Texas at ten wins and you

(16:50):
still win. You're not discrediting the expectations. As coach Sark
said himself, I don't think you'll ever see an undefeated
team win the national championship again.

Speaker 2 (17:03):
I also thought that was that was the one time
I ever heard coach Sary say something that I felt
was a setup.

Speaker 3 (17:11):
Well, because.

Speaker 2 (17:14):
He has the power to go twelve and oh, and
I think they do. I mean you could lose one
game still be that team. But that was a setup.
That was just to get all of y'all to back off.
Stop putting overly your over expectations on my team. We're

(17:39):
gonna float under the radar as the best team in
college for That's exactly how I thought that when he
said that you're trying to float under the radar as
the number one team, get out of here. There's I'm
not falling for that. I'm not falling for the banana
and the tailpipe. I'm just saying this. You can't. You can't.

Speaker 1 (18:04):
There's not there's not a that's not a bad thing
to be ten and two.

Speaker 3 (18:09):
That's not.

Speaker 2 (18:11):
Yeah, but if there's like five other teams tending.

Speaker 1 (18:14):
To it doesn't matter. This is expanded. We're expanded now,
it's not. But you still want to be at the
top and get that buy.

Speaker 7 (18:21):
And you are in the sec. Ten and two is
not the same. That's tenant two. Yeah, that's not the
same as the some belt. No shot at to some bed,
no shot at the some belt. There's gonna be a
difference there. There something belts about to break up. Texas
State is about to go to Pack twelve it's not
the end of the month. It's not even the ACC

(18:42):
ACC is not on that level. Rock twelve is not
on that level as the SCC. You can say Big ten,
but that's the only conference.

Speaker 3 (18:51):
So if you look at it that way.

Speaker 1 (18:54):
Texas ten and two, that's not a that's not a slight.
You just said they were over valued. Because if you
took the over and you come up short and you
still get to ten, if you take eleven, that mean's
it going eleven in one.

Speaker 3 (19:09):
It's a tough year. Man, it's a tough year. You
got a brand new quarterback.

Speaker 1 (19:12):
I don't.

Speaker 3 (19:16):
Ten is still good, bro, Yeah, but my heart, I
don't like that. I will say this.

Speaker 1 (19:22):
The report came out the other day and it's it's
not a report, it's just the facts. Texas is the
only stand up. Texas is the only power for a
program to return their head coach, their offensive coordinator, defensive coordinator,
and strength and conditioning coordinator for five plus years now.

(19:44):
They're the only team to have the exact same crew
every single year. The only team that is close is
Virginia in SMU and they've had there going on their
fourth fourth season as the same and that came from
football scoop, but you still have to look at it
in the light of all right, now we're getting.

Speaker 3 (20:07):
A chance to work. And let's not forget what coach
Stark told us too.

Speaker 1 (20:10):
Man, they brought in what twenty seven new players, twenty
seven brand new players that have to get acclimated and
adjusted to what the expected, not the expectations, what the
expectations are of the coaching staff, what they have to
get done, and those are the types of things that
you continue to look at.

Speaker 2 (20:30):
I'm very proud of the fact that they've messed as
well if they has already, but there's still a.

Speaker 3 (20:38):
Lot of way, a long way to go.

Speaker 2 (20:40):
But I'm looking at the other teams harder than the
SEC and Georgia.

Speaker 3 (20:44):
Being the top culprit. But also you standing up.

Speaker 2 (20:49):
I'm standing up because, like my calasophobia started to say,
it is excited. I was gonna take off running to
the door. Now I just don't. I just don't feel
like that we are given credit for what it is
Texas is. You just mentioned the continuity between the five

(21:10):
departments and the strength coach being one of those, like.

Speaker 3 (21:16):
This is the year.

Speaker 2 (21:18):
As everybody thinks, this is the year but arch is
gonna be here next year too.

Speaker 3 (21:24):
I mean, I can't promise you that, but that's the way.

Speaker 2 (21:28):
That it looks right, you know you, it would say
art everything goes perfect, Texas winning national championship.

Speaker 3 (21:35):
Arch wins the Heisman.

Speaker 2 (21:38):
You have two guys on the defense drafted in the
top ten, which Anthony Hill and Colin Simmons can both
be drafted, right like perfect everything works. You gotta rebuild
for next year on defense and find two star wars
and arch Man is gonna come back because he's gonna

(22:00):
try to win another high school That's that's that's there's no.

Speaker 3 (22:05):
Way that he would go in and you've already crowned.
I'm saying what if games? I'm playing what if? Okay,
let's let's say that little look at the dad. Play
some games first.

Speaker 2 (22:16):
I could play kickas games if I want to.

Speaker 5 (22:18):
I like it.

Speaker 1 (22:19):
I like it. Coming up in The Hard Knocks Life,
Kevin Durant, there's some hope if you're a Spurs fan
or a Rocket fan, or a Maverick fan or timber stop.

Speaker 3 (22:33):
Hey, and what in the world did they do with
the trade of Desmond Bain? I got question?

Speaker 1 (22:40):
I got question with be back right here on the
morning kickoff on sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone. Look,
this is the time where everybody wants to be in
the headlines.

Speaker 3 (22:52):
There's a.

Speaker 1 (22:55):
National NBA Finals that is going on, but the stories
continue to come out about other things that are going
on besides the NBA Finals. Kevin Durant, former Texas Longhorm
is in the middle of the crosshairs of the NBA.

(23:16):
And what I mean by that is nothing negative. Story
has come out that the Miami Heat, the San Antonio Spurs,
and the Houston Rockets are the preferred trade destinations out
of Phoenix. Now understand Kevin Durant, who's been in the

(23:37):
league fifteen years, He's a fifteen time All Star.

Speaker 3 (23:40):
I think he's actually been in there longer than that.

Speaker 1 (23:43):
But he is on the move. Once again, we all
agree he's still an elite scorer. He is a guy
that really wants to be comfortable. He likes to stay
out of the news. All he wants to do is hoop.
But Miami could be in the conversation as well. I mean,

(24:05):
Miami is in the conversation, but there could be some
other places that they might want to trade him to.
But if I'm a betting man, and I've been known
to dabble every once every once in a while, I
would really look for him to be in San Antonio.

(24:27):
I think san Antonio is the right spot for him.
I think san Antonio is a great place for him.
And if you compare him in Wimby together, and I
know you talked about this last week, Mark.

Speaker 2 (24:39):
And I had to do some time.

Speaker 1 (24:41):
I had to take my time and think about this
a little bit. But I think that would be a
perfect fit. They could trade away some of those assets
that they have they could possibly trade. I would not
trade the number two pick away. I would trade the
number fourteen, and I would move a couple other things
around make.

Speaker 3 (25:00):
It enticing for the Suns.

Speaker 1 (25:05):
But Houston has some pieces that they can get rid
of as well that could make it a little bit
more interesting. The team that I do not want him
to go to is the Miami Heat. I don't think
that's a good fit for him. I don't like the
way their team is being run right now. Look, Jimmy
got out of there for a reason. Jimmy wanted to

(25:27):
get out of there. But Kevin Durant is somebody that
is more of a thoughtful basketball player.

Speaker 3 (25:36):
He is part of a team. He is a team
oriented player.

Speaker 1 (25:41):
Jimmy sometimes it's more about Jimmy in those situations. I
think Kevin Durant's move should be the San Antonio Spurs.

Speaker 3 (25:52):
I'm hopeful and I really do.

Speaker 1 (25:53):
Believe that that's where he's going to end up Orange
Before I go into the other one, what are your thoughts?

Speaker 3 (26:00):
Really do think you're right?

Speaker 2 (26:01):
And I've been saying this since the season really started,
that Kevin Durant needed to move and the compass, the
putting Bradley Beal and Booker together with Kevin Durant was
not gonna work because they basically all did the same thing.

Speaker 3 (26:17):
They're all the same players, and you know you have
that little different level.

Speaker 2 (26:22):
But now playing with San Antonio, they would increase their
shot block defensively one and two you have a guy
that can you don't have to gang up everybody on Wemby.
Kind of like the same thing I was saying about
the Cowboys, it's so one dimension. You can make them
one dimensional. If Kevin Durant goes to San Antonio, you

(26:46):
can't defend it all. You just have to like hope
for the best and play hard and see if your
your guys can rise to the occasion. Because that's that's
a team where you don't have to do everything right.
They'll erase a lot of mistakes.

Speaker 1 (27:03):
Yeah, it's it's an interesting aspect, and especially from a
guy who knows the area well, comes back this way
a lot. And San Antonio and Austin that're real close together.

Speaker 2 (27:14):
Money and when you say make it about the money,
think about the tax breaks that he's gonna have. Yeah,
the tax breaks, but think about what's good for basketball
at the at the at the Moody Center.

Speaker 3 (27:27):
Oh my gosh.

Speaker 2 (27:28):
Now you the Spurs are gonna work out something where
they play more than two games a year here. Yeah,
money Antonio want to let that go. And people san
Antonio understand the value of having a player like Kevin.
That's going to make more people from Austin go to
San Antonio and spend money. Yep, I agree with that.

(27:48):
So their economy is going to get better. It's a
win win situation. Well that that that was one part
of the conversation.

Speaker 1 (27:56):
The other part of this conversation is the Orlando Magic
traded with the Memphis Grizzlies for Desmond Bang and you're
probably saying, Desmond Bang, oh, okay, all right, that's a
good trade get for him.

Speaker 3 (28:11):
Well, Desmond Bang warranted a trade of.

Speaker 1 (28:17):
Ksep Caldwell, Pope Cole Anthony, the number sixteen pick in
this year's draft, which happens next week, a twenty twenty
six first round pick from Phoenix, twenty twenty eight first
round pick, twenty twenty nine first round pick swap in

(28:39):
twenty thirty first round pick. Desmond Bang warranted four first
round picks and and excuse me, three five first round picks,
five first round picks and two players I got five
on and because they get the number sixteen pick from

(29:02):
this year first round picking twenty six, first round picking
twenty eight, twenty nine.

Speaker 2 (29:07):
And thirty, that's too big of a hall for unless
they know something we don't know.

Speaker 3 (29:17):
Is it Bain darkness?

Speaker 2 (29:19):
Is it that Bain?

Speaker 3 (29:20):
Because that's the only way that I would have paid
that and gave you that many picks out. I want
Bange on my team. I was born in the darkness.
The darkness is not your not five No, I'm just like,
what in the world was this in the mindset?

Speaker 2 (29:36):
This could have been my take because I man I
spent probably another forty five minutes before I went to
bed on of course the happenings. So now they're gonna
they're gonna have to trade John Morant. Well, that was
trying to clean house they had to get rid of.
If you trade Dave Moran, how valuable is bane? Okay,

(29:59):
so here's the deal. If if if that trade would
have happened for John Moran, I would have been okay,
Oh yeah, yeah, I would have said okay, said man,
they gave way a Hall.

Speaker 3 (30:08):
Five for man.

Speaker 1 (30:10):
Desmond Bay is a good player. He's twenty seven years old.
He's done really good job TCU player, But come on, man,
two players, that's seven.

Speaker 3 (30:24):
When they trade John Moran.

Speaker 2 (30:27):
To wherever he goes, they're gonna have a couple of
losing seasons.

Speaker 1 (30:32):
Well, it depends on what they all get for all
these players. If they can find a way to make.

Speaker 3 (30:37):
Someone, he is gonna make whatever team he's on.

Speaker 2 (30:39):
Good coach Anthony is a talented player. Absolutely, Jaron Jackson,
I'm not a fan of you know that. I feel
like he's soft his tissue paper. They gotta do something
with him, and they if they.

Speaker 1 (30:55):
Still got some stuff to do with Marcus smart. Don't
forget he's been on that roster as well.

Speaker 2 (30:59):
I said, but that's one of those expiring contracts that
you won't to have on your team.

Speaker 3 (31:04):
Yep, no doubt about it. Coming up next, what are
the Boston Red Sox doing? And who was the true
winner in that?

Speaker 1 (31:12):
Right here on the morning kickoff on sports Radio AM
thirteen hundred the Zone.

Speaker 3 (31:18):
Now is the time. That's right, We're gonna have a.

Speaker 1 (31:21):
Conversation, but I want to give you an opportunity to
win a pair of tickets to go see Laney Wilson
September to eighteenth at the Moody Center.

Speaker 3 (31:31):
All you got to do is get over to that.

Speaker 1 (31:33):
New and improved iHeartRadio app get over to AM thirteen
hundred the Zone, tap that red microphone and leave the
keyword of the day.

Speaker 3 (31:41):
Drive. Drive is the keyword of the day.

Speaker 1 (31:44):
For a chance to win a pair of tickets to
go see Laney Wilson September eighteenth at the Moody Center.
We'll be listening all week and we'll give you a
chance to go see Laney Wilson. Also, make sure that
you're listening to the Craig Waste today as they give
you a chance to win a pair of tickets to
go see another artists as well.

Speaker 3 (32:06):
Well.

Speaker 1 (32:07):
Yesterday, baseball just continues to not not disappoint. As the
season continues to roll long, you start to truly understand
that there are opportunities for everyone to be able to
move around.

Speaker 3 (32:22):
And how does that happen. Well, they decided that they
were going to make sure that you get on the move.

Speaker 1 (32:31):
If you're Raphael Devers. Not going to dive too much
into this trade. I'm just gonna give you the particulars
when it comes to the trade, because our guy Mark.

Speaker 3 (32:39):
Henry will have his take on the Dever's trade.

Speaker 1 (32:43):
But I want you to understand this, when these moves
are starting to happen, it has to go down this
way for a long time. We don't know everything that
was happening in the clubhouse. We don't know everything that
was being said during those trade off first, but for
Rafael Devers to be traded yesterday in the middle right

(33:06):
after a great week by the way, he had an
unbelievable week during that time. But for him to be traded,
and you start to understand why he was traded and
the movement that needed to happen, it was something that
was inevitable. Rafael Devers has been traded to the New
York Giants in exchange for Jordan Hicks, who throws about

(33:27):
one thousand miles an hour, Kyle Harrison, James Tibbs, the
third He is the number four prospect in their organization
in Jose Bellow. He has eight and a half years
on his contract, two hundred and fifty four million dollars
worth of contract and two million in the trade bonus.

(33:48):
So Rafael Devers is going to be in the organization
of the San Francisco Giants now the San Francisco Giants.
Although they probably have done an unbelievable.

Speaker 3 (33:58):
Job with.

Speaker 1 (34:00):
You know, vetting this situation, I still firmly believe that
he has to be better at third base. You can
do everything you want at the play, but if your
third basement, which is the place, you cannot hide a player.
That's the thing that I continue to tell people. You
can't hide a third basement. You can hide a guy

(34:23):
that suspect defensively, you can put him in the outfield
and you can kind of save you there. And you
can also look at another direction and you could say DH.
He didn't want a DH.

Speaker 3 (34:35):
He couldn't. He didn't want to play first base. So
the moves that needed to be.

Speaker 1 (34:38):
Made are now being done elsewhere Raphael Devers, although, like
I said, he is absolutely tearing the cover off the baseball.
He's leading the team in home runs, he's leading the
team in RBIs. But there was probably some things that
were being done behind the scenes. Maybe he wasn't a
good teammate, maybe he wasn't doing some of the things

(35:01):
that needed to be done around there, and maybe maybe
Cora was just like, hey, man, we gotta do what
we gotta do to make this trade.

Speaker 3 (35:10):
There is a lot that they got back for him rightfully.

Speaker 1 (35:13):
So the Giants will cover the remainder of Dev's contract
that runs to twenty thirty three, and they will pay
the rest of that two hundred and fifty million dollars.
So there is a ton that is happening during those moments.
So we'll see how it ends up. We'll see how
this conversation goes a little further down the line. And

(35:34):
if you look at the standings, you look at what
San Francisco is right now, they're in second place behind
the Dodgers, so they felt like they needed to go
make a splash and go get a guy like that,
So we will see what ends up happening.

Speaker 3 (35:47):
Speaking of the.

Speaker 1 (35:48):
Dodgers today show Hey o Tani. We'll step on the
mound and he will be pitching today against the San
Diego Padres. It will be his first appearance on the
mound and this is something that we've been waiting for.
He'll probably still be batting lead off, but he will
be pitching today against the San France, I mean against

(36:11):
the San Diego Padres. Also, we wanted to talk a
little bit of college baseball. College baseball continues to roll
on Tonight. We have the UCLA Bruins taking on LSU
winners bracket game. This is going to be a mad
house tonight for this matchup. In this afternoon, we have

(36:32):
Murray State taking on Arkansas losers bracket. Loser goes home,
winner advances and will play the loser of the UCLA
and LSU matchup of tonight. Last night, Coastal Carolina continues
their magic. They beat Oregon State six to two and

(36:54):
they continue to roll on. Arizona goes home as Louisville
defeats Arizona. So Arizona goes to the crib and now
we get more matchups tomorrow. It's been a fun, fun
week I'm telling you, I mean weekend of watching all
these games and all these different matchups. We'll continue those

(37:15):
conversations and so much more in our number two. We're
gonna talk about the Dallas Cowboys. We're gonna have the
world's strongest take and I want you to I want
you to tell me and you can hit me up
on social media at Harball Hearts and of course at
AM thirteen hundred the Zone, and of course you can
hit up Mark Henry on this as well. Which players

(37:40):
do you believe deserve to have statues? It's an interesting
conversation at NFL dot com was talking about that and
I was wondering the same thing. Also, if you are
wondering what the ratings are for the WNB, just know

(38:02):
that the game between the excuse me, the Fever and
the Liberty was one of the most watched basketball games
in the history of basketball women's basketball because the game
that they had believe had twenty eight million views twenty

(38:26):
excuse me, twenty point nine million views, and it is
the most WATCHEDWNBA basketball game in the history of the WNBA.
Caitlin Clark is back, Stewie, Sabrina and Nescue, all of
them and we watched it too, so it was outstanding stuff.

(38:47):
So WNBA is making its move. When we come back,
our number two of a Long Horns Monday edition of
The Morning Kickoff rolls on right after this, right here
on Sport that's Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone. Welcome
back to our number two of a Longhorns Monday edition

(39:07):
of The Morning Kickoff right here on AM thirteen hundred
The Zone. In our number one, we started it off
about Texas Athletics and what they have done throughout the
program shout out to CDC. We also talked about the
Texas Power rankings and is Texas overvalued KD and the
Desmond Bine and of course Russell Westbrook and of course

(39:29):
we got to finish it off with Raphael Devers. But
right now I want to get into the Dallas Cowboys as.

Speaker 3 (39:36):
The season starts to approach us.

Speaker 1 (39:37):
We've gone through OTA's and a lot of folks are
looking at the Cowboys as a little bit different this year,
and so much so that even the people at ESPN
are starting to understand that there's a big difference in
this cowboy organization and the way that they're starting to move.

Speaker 5 (39:57):
Expectations are always going the super Bowl.

Speaker 8 (39:58):
It's not new Brian shot However, I worked with him
for a while. I love him and you can see
why he has the job he has Matt, which is
he is confident, he's relatable and look, Jerry Jones, I'm
not sure that. I mean, I don't know this, but
you connect the dots. Obviously, Dak had to sign off
on this higher and you could see why for obvious reasons.
And to me now like he's laying out a plan

(40:22):
how they're going to win and what happens when they do.
They're going to have to run the ball though for
this team to be successful, because the one question mark
we have about Dak guys is the last two out
of the three years, he hasn't been able to stay healthy.

Speaker 3 (40:33):
How do you protect the quarterback? You run the ball.

Speaker 8 (40:35):
And the question is does Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders
cobble enough together for them to be able to run
the ball.

Speaker 9 (40:42):
I think they would tell you that a lot depends
on the offensive line, right, that those backs will be
successful if they can get it blocked, which they feel
better about their offensive line this year than they did
last year. They've invested resources in it. Obviously in the
draft Brian Schottenheimer, not just Dak Prescott, but I think
a lot of players were excited about that higher. My
understanding is it went over pretty well in the building.
So he's a guy that is very well liked and

(41:03):
well respected by the players there. And obviously he's bringing
some level of confidence to this that I'm sure they're
all feeding off of. So it seems to me that
the vibes are pretty high in Dallas right now.

Speaker 1 (41:14):
And that's the thing, Mark, because you and I had
this conversation before, the energy sounds different. The conversations are
a lot different now. Again, we understand no games of
being played, but those are talented football players that are there.
They've done some things on the offensive line that needed

(41:35):
to be shored up. There's some movement there. The running
back situation. I'm still a little pissed off we didn't
go get Nick Chubb, but got to give those other
guys an opportunity. And if Javonte Williams is motivated, is
he somebody that's coming off of an injury that he
believes that Okay, last year in Denver was not my
good year. This is about to be my good year,

(41:58):
and I'm glad to wear the star on my helmet.
We also got our guy Jaydon Blue on that team,
so there's some things in that run game that can
be a little bit different. But like I told you
last week, when Dak is good, it's off of play action.
And how do you create play action by being able

(42:19):
to run the football?

Speaker 2 (42:21):
Well, I'm gonna tell you right now, with all that
you just said, it's all going to come down to
something very simple. What's up the commitment of the players
to his sister?

Speaker 3 (42:34):
Will you buy in? Will you believe?

Speaker 2 (42:38):
Will Dak get a little bit hesitant after they run
the ball four times in a row? Because that's apparently
what Schottenheimer wants to do. He wants to be able
to run the ball, run the ball, and then run
the ball some more and then hit somebody over the
top across the middle for a big, big game. And

(42:59):
I'm loved that philosophy because one, the Cowboys haven't done
it in a while, and two, Dak Prescott is a
better play action quarterback than he is a drop back quarterback.

Speaker 3 (43:14):
So you fix two things, right, off the bat.

Speaker 2 (43:17):
And then thirdly, you eliminate more penalties because you had
the most penalized offensive tackle in the NFL number one.
Oh so now if he's run blocking, he's not holding
for past blocking. He didn't have a lot of issues

(43:39):
run blocking. So you fixed three problems right off the bat,
and I think that that would bowl well for the
Cowboys having a productive season.

Speaker 3 (43:50):
Well, I think two.

Speaker 1 (43:51):
You know, you look at what's going on, and although
I'm with you with the running game, but you didn't
bring George Pickens in for run blocking. You don't have
CD Lamb, one of the top bide receivers in the league.
For run blocking. You're gonna have to be able to
make some things happen. And that's why I say the
play action is good.

Speaker 2 (44:09):
But you can also have more one on ones, which
would be good for CEDD Lamb or George Pickings. Because
the Cowboys have they've been playing umbrella coverage over CD Lamb,
but you always put.

Speaker 3 (44:26):
Somebody over the top of it.

Speaker 2 (44:28):
You allocate linebackers on his side moving back five yards,
like you if you're infth enough where you can't take
advantage of four people back and going backwards before the
snap of the ball. Then that means that the problem
is your offensive line. You're running back in your quarterback.

Speaker 1 (44:47):
But you did there, weren't that bad because he still
had over a thousand yards, He still had over fifteen
hundred yards, he had one hundred catches.

Speaker 3 (44:53):
I mean, he wasn't It wasn't like they would nullifying him. No,
not at all. But he was the only imp You
can cater to your defense.

Speaker 2 (45:03):
If you know that that guy is gonna get the ball, now,
you're not gonna have that. You're gonna have it some
because people always guess you blitz. You always have those
people accounted for. Even if you do everything right against
Ceedee Lamb, if he's not blanketed, he's gonna catch a ball.

Speaker 3 (45:24):
And the same thing for pikets.

Speaker 2 (45:26):
Pikets is over the top, over the shoulder runner that's
hit home runs a lot, and it's something to be
excited for, but it's not gonna work unless that run
game gets straightened down. And unless all of those guys,
and you talk about blocking, if your job is to

(45:48):
block on this play, do it with some fervor.

Speaker 1 (45:51):
No. And I'm not gonna say they're not gonna block,
but they're not bringing in these types of players to
come in and block, just like old Boy said and Pittsburgh,
we didn't bring in Aaron Rodgers to just hand the
ball off the whole time. It's Aaron Rodgers, Dak put up.
He was a runner up for the m v P.
I mean, there's some good things that are that have

(46:13):
happened within this deal. So for me, what I'm more
concerned about is, yes, we do definitely need to be
able to establish the run, to control the clock.

Speaker 3 (46:25):
And do things like that. But again we're we're on
the resume.

Speaker 1 (46:30):
Does it say that Javonte Adams is going to be
one of the top rushers in the league. Where does
it say that Miles Sanders is going to be one
of the tough or the top rushers.

Speaker 3 (46:41):
In the league. It doesn't.

Speaker 2 (46:42):
And they got they fighting for their life, right, that's
because they're both our mercenaries. They're one year deals. Jayson
Blue is the only one that's got a deal that's
beyond this season, and your guy from and my for
the two freshmen rookies, you know, but those other two
guys that they're fighting for their football lives. Yeah, so

(47:02):
I expect like really hard work out of him during
this offseason and in the preseason, and then it's gonna
come down to.

Speaker 3 (47:12):
Who's doing the most at that time to get that
starting role, to get those starting reps yup. And there's
a lot of good.

Speaker 1 (47:20):
News that is coming out of Dallas Cowboys camp for
us to be optimistic. The only bad thing that we
continue to look at and try to figure out is
the Micah Parsons deal. Michah Parsons is still in the
middle of his contract negotiations. Jerry Jones seems to believe
that the agent shouldn't be involved, which is still crazy
to me that we're still having this conversation. And to

(47:44):
your point, the more and more I think about it,
I believe that Jerry is doing that not to discredit
David Mugiletta, who lives right here and represents damn near
everybody in the NFL, and they always get their money.

Speaker 3 (47:59):
Whoever he he's representing, it is getting paid no matter what.

Speaker 1 (48:03):
But I think Jerry is just doing it to do
it because he knows people are going to talk about it.

Speaker 3 (48:08):
That's all. That's what we've been saying, right right right.
I think he is your name at the.

Speaker 2 (48:17):
Top of the of the news wire, everybody's got to
talk about whether or not the Cowboys are going to
sign Michael Parks at the top of news here we
are knowing that he's going to play, knowing that they
need to pay him. They've talked to they blue in
the face, and why is it not got done because

(48:42):
they won't to keep it at the time.

Speaker 1 (48:44):
Yeah, and if they win and if not, if Jerry
they were like, when they get this done, Micah is
going to be one of the most highly decorated defensive
ends and outside linebackers in the league that is going
to be able to push the end. So we will
see how that plays out, because that is the only

(49:05):
negative that we can say that we've heard coming out
of Ken thus far. People are excited about it. Schottenheimer's
bringing energy. We've heard the phone call about good night
coach and how they handle that.

Speaker 3 (49:18):
So it's just soon so awful. But they've figured it out.

Speaker 1 (49:24):
And a name to pay attention to, and we heard
his name last week is Brevin excuse me, spa forward
tight end.

Speaker 3 (49:33):
He is somebody span forward, not forward, is.

Speaker 1 (49:37):
Somebody that is definitely getting better and better every single week.
He's going to be important for Jake Ferguson, because Jake
Ferguson is in his contract year. So if Jake Ferguson
doesn't handle, and this young man continues to get better
and better every single week, this is something to pay

(49:57):
attention to. Brevin span Forward is the name to pay
attention to because he is getting a lot of love
in Dallas. Cowboys can so I'm excited about it. I
can't wait for the season. You know they love to
run too tight end, no doubt, no doubt. Coming up next,
we will have this conversation. Mark always talks about this,

(50:21):
but now we're gonna give you five names that think
they deserve the same kind of treatment. You'll get it
when we come back right here on a long Horns
Monday edition of The Morning Kickoff on Sports Radio AM
thirteen hundred The Zone. Welcome back to the Morning Kickoff
right here on Sports Radio and thirteen hundred The Zone.

Speaker 3 (50:42):
Great segment about the Cowboys. That stuff just gets us
wrapped up a little bit.

Speaker 1 (50:46):
But we're gonna stay in the NFL because Mark, you
always talk about your one goal in life is to
get yourself a statue. You want to statue somewhere. Yeah, man, somewhere.
It's homewhere, it don't matter. It's the statue have to
be here.

Speaker 2 (51:01):
Man. Look it could be a Dwayne Wade little statue.
It could be like with his deck off. Okay, man,
I'm talking about the name. You have a street, Yeah,
you drive down Mark Henry Way. Yeah, they ain't got
one of those. Come on, they slipping the that's default.
That seals, that is default. As much as you have

(51:25):
done for.

Speaker 3 (51:26):
People watching, y'all put the petition out there be Texas.
You heard them saying earlier, y'all have messed up by
not letting that man had no streak. Oh my god,
that man of streak. I am not lobbying for the street,
but I do want to stat I take the statue.

Speaker 1 (51:44):
Well, the NFL and NFL dot Com has created this
list of players that they believe deserves to have a statue. Okay,
we're gonna get away from the obvious one. We'll come
comes back to him later. But they have top five,

(52:05):
top five, top five play multiple choice that that deserve
a statue in their honor representing their organization. I'm gonna
start with Arizona Cardinals. They've given it. They They've done
a great, great job of marketing, and this player was

(52:30):
a class act. Was one of the top top players
in the NFL. You never heard of anything crazy except
for one little spat with Kyler Murray. And it's gotta
be Larry Fitzgerald. What Larry Fitzgerald. Seventeen years he played

(52:52):
with the Arizona card, so he would have already had
a statue, No statue for him, and he finished with
the second most receiving yards and NFL history behind Jerry Rice.
He learned alone have a statue, eleven Pro Bowl selections
and won the twenty sixteen Walter Payton Man.

Speaker 3 (53:10):
Of the Year.

Speaker 1 (53:10):
That is nuts, man, Get out of here, y'all. You
don't have one either, though. Hey listen, I thought you
would have had one.

Speaker 2 (53:17):
But I should be fussing that sies be the same
way I'm fussing exact Arizona exactly.

Speaker 1 (53:24):
That's that's absolutely wild. I mean, Jerry Rice got a
food named after him. Yeah, exactly exactly, and that what
he's talking about. I've seen the commercials man, I seen it.
That's nuts, though, Yeah, I mean, Larry Fitzgerald.

Speaker 2 (53:40):
If you played fantasy football, or if you played if
you watch video games, you watch football. You know I'm
talking about not the real game. Yeah, I'm talking about
like a simulation of the game. You know that when
you come down to the first five picks, a wide
receiver maybe the first pick.

Speaker 1 (53:58):
I mean he was on the video game, he was
on the cover of Madden. You gotta pick that guy.
And he don't have a statue. He doesn't have a statue.
But remember, man, a lot of people they don't look at,
they don't look at a lot of people immortalize them.
Think about it. But there's number two all time in
the NFL. And not only that, and here is your

(54:18):
team years with you, bro, Exactly. It shouldn't even be
the football team.

Speaker 2 (54:26):
It should be the city of Arizona putting a statue
of him up, Marcus, Can you see if he has
a street at least I don't be very disappointing, like
you're gonna make my day bad.

Speaker 3 (54:39):
And we're gonna go to that such a.

Speaker 2 (54:41):
Great day yesterday and father Day and then.

Speaker 1 (54:44):
You're just kidding me, right, my fad man, I wanted
to ask you this. Okay, So number four, all right,
they have Marshawn Lynch for Seattle. They say that he
deserves to have a statue. Now, you got to remember,

(55:05):
though Marshaw Lynch was great for Seattle, but it wasn't
about Marshaw Lynch. It was about the Legion of Boom,
right you think about that, they were it was always
about the Legion of Boom.

Speaker 3 (55:18):
It was.

Speaker 1 (55:18):
Marshawn was the side show. He was the main He
was part of the act, but the main act was
the Legion of Boom.

Speaker 2 (55:26):
Yeah, I think you might have to put Marshawn's trophy
in Oakland. Well, he might not send him yea, his
hometown got it. He got to be like sealsby listen, look,
I'm looking at y'all sillsby catching him work. Where you
are that looking in Houston?

Speaker 1 (55:48):
J J.

Speaker 3 (55:49):
Watt oh Man?

Speaker 6 (55:50):
What?

Speaker 3 (55:50):
I but is he really finished? Well, he didn't want
to keep talking about you.

Speaker 2 (55:55):
I'm training he I mean, if I decided to come out,
I could.

Speaker 3 (55:59):
Come out if he wanted to. But he's not going
to He's just talking. I mean, he's just a kid. Quit.

Speaker 1 (56:04):
He wants to be a part of the conversation. He
went to practice the other day. He was glad to
see everybody. But here's the thing he had over he
he is just one of three players in NFL history
to have one hundred plus sack career, twenty five force
career fumbles, and seventy plus career past defense deflected.

Speaker 3 (56:25):
He did all of that.

Speaker 2 (56:26):
He was the MVP of the entire league, just offense, defense,
MVP of the league.

Speaker 1 (56:35):
Care how you fix it on your mouth? JJ Wide
need a statue in Houston. He's only one of two
players to be inducted into their ring. And he is
he is He and Andrew I mean Andrew, Andre Johnson,
him and Dre at the statue. Put the statue at
the stadium. Number two. Guess who I know? Peyton Manning.

Speaker 3 (56:58):
Nope, I think Peyton might already have one. I'm not sure.

Speaker 1 (57:03):
But these are the five that are most deserving right now.
Aaron Donald. Aaron Donald is most deserving. He just finished
thought you got a way. You gotta let him sink
in a little bit like you said. Yep, but hard
another MVP. He's Defensive Player of the Year three times three,

(57:23):
went to the Super Bowl, won the Super Bowl. Ten
year career on one hundred and eleven sacks, nine and
a half more than anyone else in the NFL between
the years twenty fourteen to twenty twenty.

Speaker 3 (57:36):
Three, and he did not play on the end.

Speaker 1 (57:39):
He laid in the middle and created all that having
how that's just how he rolled off like it's a
combination of will, strength and some kind of elf magic
because he had to make some guys arms disappear so
he can just run through.

Speaker 3 (57:56):
What is role is?

Speaker 2 (57:57):
You? I wonder who was This is a good question.
It would be good to look at down the road.
Who's been held the most out of all the top deman.
Let's just be honest.

Speaker 1 (58:10):
They're held every play, so I don't argument exactly You're like,
which play where they not held?

Speaker 3 (58:20):
Aaron Donald being.

Speaker 1 (58:24):
A got held so much that the fact that he
was able to produce like he has.

Speaker 2 (58:31):
Yep, you have to put him. You have to immortalize him.
I say, give it to him up and.

Speaker 3 (58:38):
Number one, you know who that is? That is Tom Brady.

Speaker 1 (58:42):
And yes, Peyton Manning does have a statue in Indianapolis.
But tom Brady what he's been able to do for
the franchise of.

Speaker 3 (58:54):
New England.

Speaker 1 (58:55):
But they're saying he deserves it to be in the Buccaneers.
If you give Tom Brady, you gotta give him too.
If you give Tom Brady one. You gotta give Trent
Dill for one. You gotta get Brad Johnson one.

Speaker 3 (59:11):
They won, They were part of it. They were part
of a team that.

Speaker 2 (59:16):
All your heart of heart, deep down in your Brad
Johnson that there is no way, no way that Brad Johnson.

Speaker 3 (59:30):
Deserves it too. If they're gonna, if they're gonna put
it in Tampa. Tom was only Tampa. Twomby was only
there for two seasons. Two seasons. Yes, but Johnson, how many?

Speaker 1 (59:45):
Where's Warremon SAPs, Where's Jared?

Speaker 3 (59:49):
Where's Jarck Brooks? Where's theirs? Talk to me about that.

Speaker 2 (59:53):
Listen if they want to put a statue of we
they wasn't on the lists.

Speaker 3 (01:00:00):
Hey you said, I said, Oh yeah, he got me. Yeah, yeah,
he needed You're not SAP either, SAP. Come on, man,
come on, Doc. Sap paid the way for Derek to
get off exactly.

Speaker 2 (01:00:15):
He was the grunt worker and it took how long
did it take Big Hamp to get in the newse
Tackles is always gonna be the last guy. Well, this
is about this. Sap is in the Hall of Fame.
I'm talking about statue at the stadium. Yes, yes, I
guess so I would.

Speaker 1 (01:00:32):
I mean, he's one of the more recognized the ball
of Tampa one put crude up.

Speaker 2 (01:00:38):
Till he's gonna be the Fedtish statues around that stadium.

Speaker 1 (01:00:42):
Yeah, this is a great, great debate. Obviously, you know
that Tom Brady is the guy speaking of the guy,
the one who needs one. Coming up next, World's Strongest
Man bringing you his world's strongest take right here on
the morning kickoff on Sports the Am thirteen hundreds.

Speaker 3 (01:01:03):
You learn to be dropped, because that can only mean
one thing. W W E. Hall of Famer and.

Speaker 1 (01:01:08):
The World's Strongest Man, Mark Hendley brings you his world's
strongest take.

Speaker 3 (01:01:15):
Take it away, big fella Hart, what's something man? You
know what time it is. It's time for the world's
strongest take by the world's strongest.

Speaker 2 (01:01:27):
Mac us. Back then they didn't know me. Now I'm hot.
They all own men who guys what suck? We talked
about this before baseball start, and I know that I'm
not hardball hard or hardball Henry in that case, but

(01:01:48):
I'm gonna tell you this. There was a conversation had
and that was some disagreement. My thought process on this
take is that maybe the player deserved better, but my
cohort over here to my left believes that he should

(01:02:12):
suck it up. It's about production, and you didn't have
it at that position, and we're gonna have somebody coming.
It's just the business. I'm tied, tied, dog tied of that.
It's just business conversation. The Red Sox trad The Red

(01:02:32):
Sox had a a trade for All Star slugger Raphael Devils.
I'm he had a position first, and then out of
the blue, oh, we we got Bergman. We're gonna we're

(01:02:53):
gonna move you to d H and and and then
you can play in let in left field.

Speaker 3 (01:02:58):
No, no, I don't. I don't.

Speaker 2 (01:03:02):
I played third base. And he said, you know what,
he accepted the role to be the DH after signing
a ten year deal a year and a half before.
You're gonna pay him all that money, but then you're
gonna bring somebody in. You know what, I made a mistake.

(01:03:23):
We gotta move him. They didn't move him.

Speaker 3 (01:03:26):
They kept him. They pretty much said, you know what,
we're gonna have you beat that extra batter, you get hit,
you just come in. Do that.

Speaker 2 (01:03:37):
That's very emasculating and disrespectful to a player that you
didn't have a battle for your position. You brought somebody
in for my position because you looked at me as
being in that And that's what the problem was with
Devs And that's what I feel like was the mistake
that was made. But my take is that I feel

(01:04:01):
like the whole process was wrong. What say you, Well,
you know how I said.

Speaker 1 (01:04:07):
We talked about it in the last the last hour,
talking about the money, the situation, the defensive lack of
excuse me control for him.

Speaker 3 (01:04:21):
Look the situation with.

Speaker 1 (01:04:23):
Devers and by the way, he has been on fire
for the last week and a half two weeks, the
situation with Devers is definitely a trend in the way
that the game is being played. They let rid of
Xander Bogarts too, Let's not forget about that. When they
brought in Trevor Story. They've made moves to make their organize.

(01:04:47):
This is a team that is supposed to be the leader.
Right there, they're battling with the New York Yankees. They
just swept the Yankees. Yeah, and so you start to
look at this team and this organization, and you're looking
at the moves that are being made they're trying to
change the way they went about their business for a while,

(01:05:08):
and maybe, just maybe this is another one of those
situations where Luka Doncic is involved. Luca, sorry to make
you catch a stray right here, but Devers probably wasn't
taking care of himself, probably wasn't in the best of shape,
wasn't doing the things. Yes, you had to flash in
the wow and all that good stuff, but maybe there's
more to the story than what we're being told or

(01:05:31):
have access to.

Speaker 2 (01:05:32):
Yeah, it's above I paid grade, I will coach signed
for that, because like, what if it.

Speaker 3 (01:05:41):
Led to them going, let's bring breakrant.

Speaker 2 (01:05:43):
I'm tired of him not wanting to yep with knowing
that you could move away from him later on.

Speaker 1 (01:05:50):
And Alex Korra is a hell of a coach and
for him a manager and for him to have to
have those conversations with them him Ham, it probably did.
Endeavors is leading a team in home runs and RBIs,
but Bregman is leading it in average. You you still
have to look at what he would do on defense,

(01:06:13):
because that is the sticking point, right you said that
that position.

Speaker 2 (01:06:19):
Over there at third base, you're gonna get a lot
of action. It's all action, boss. You got to be
ready to go.

Speaker 1 (01:06:25):
That's why Nolan Arion, though, is so important for other teams.

Speaker 3 (01:06:30):
They're looking at him.

Speaker 1 (01:06:31):
His average may not be as great as it normally is,
but he's still playing gold glove defense that's saving runs
and as a pitcher that throws a lot of sinkers
or you get a lot of ground balls. You need
your third baseman to make play, make plays for me,
make plays for me. So it is, it's still a battle.

(01:06:53):
It's still one of those things that you continue to
to work through and.

Speaker 2 (01:06:59):
Yeah, we're going out though I don't think so, because
we just on both different sides of the universe. When
it comes to this, I still think that organizations have
a responsibility not to feelings.

Speaker 3 (01:07:12):
But to the fan base, to the people to win.
You want to win.

Speaker 2 (01:07:19):
You want to win, but you don't want to be
that organization that is disrespecting your player because I feel
like he got treated. I feel like that's the case
where you made a mistake and you're trying to make
me pay for.

Speaker 1 (01:07:35):
I don't think I don't think it was a mistake.
I don't think it was a mistake. Now you may
think it was a mistake. I don't think it was
a mistake.

Speaker 3 (01:07:44):
I think it was something that had to be done.

Speaker 1 (01:07:45):
And by the way, I am a fan of Raphael
Devers with that big old chaw in his mouth running
around looking crazy.

Speaker 3 (01:07:53):
I mean, I'm a fan Mark.

Speaker 2 (01:07:56):
Mark.

Speaker 3 (01:07:56):
Do you think your issue is is you don't feel
they were being honest? Difference?

Speaker 2 (01:08:01):
No, I don't think they're being respectful. And there's a
lot of players, specially Mainia. It happens at quarterback. You
go out and get hurt, and then they bring in
Dak Prescott and then Tony Rumman never plays again because
Tony the situation was different because he had an injury.

Speaker 3 (01:08:18):
Yeah, broke back, right.

Speaker 2 (01:08:20):
But there are other cases where you see a sample
size and then you go, whoa, we want more of this, Yeah,
and then your veteran is standing there like damn it,
Like now I gotta get traded.

Speaker 3 (01:08:33):
Off the Cleveland.

Speaker 1 (01:08:36):
Well, this is for you, another great tech by the
world's strongest man. We'll come back close out the show
and send you to damn Patrick. We got NBA basketball
And I'm gonna ask Mark if he could do this,
if he think he has this type of v we
gonna see what happens when we come back and close

(01:08:56):
out the show right here on a Longhorns Monday of
the Morning Kickoff on sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone.
Another great show to kick off your work week right
here on the Morning Kickoff on Sports Radio AM thirteen
hundred The Zone.

Speaker 3 (01:09:12):
We touched on a little bit of everything.

Speaker 1 (01:09:15):
Texas Athletics, Texas football, and the expectations. We also talked
about this Kevin Durant trade story and Desmond Bank. How
is Desmond Bank get that much in a trade value? Man,
I mean, that's gonna be something to pay attention to.
And of course during the World's Strongest Take, Mark just

(01:09:36):
talked about the rap l Devers And if you miss
any part of the show, all you got to do
is get over to our podcast page on the new
and improved iHeartRadio app or wherever you get your podcasts.
Make sure you get over there and check us out
and tell everybody to tune in to the Morning Kickoff. Yesterday,

(01:09:58):
we had an unl lievable finish to the US Open.
We had bad weather, we had bad timing, and it
kept extending in that field. The field was amazing, but
the course was one of the toughest courses out there,
and people continue to talk about that.

Speaker 3 (01:10:16):
But I wanted to ask you this, Mark. There's a
lot of things you've been able to do in your life,
but can you do this? I want to cozy it up.
Don't need to make it two punts.

Speaker 1 (01:10:37):
One, Yeah, I.

Speaker 3 (01:10:55):
Six, That's what I do.

Speaker 1 (01:10:56):
Sixty four foot putt to be able to win and
walk it out, walk it out. He wins the US
Open with a sixty four foot birdie putt, all he said,
and no bogeys, no bogeys to be able to win
the tournament. JJ spond What an unbelievable run. There are

(01:11:19):
so many great players in that field, and he was
the one that conquered that course. That is one of
the roughest and toughest courses out there. When they put
Scottie Scheffler out there and his numbers are bad, you
know it's a tough course.

Speaker 2 (01:11:36):
So do you saying that the guy's better playing putt
putt than he is being a big time major league golfer,
because this is the first time that he's ever won.

Speaker 3 (01:11:47):
Yeah, And he was somebody that had been going back
and forth too, like he is, he going to.

Speaker 1 (01:11:51):
Keep his card. Is he not going to keep his car?
He's played some solid golf. He has never made four
point three million dollars in his career. That's what it's
all about, right there. Put right, there was four point
three million dollars after rain delay, after rain delay.

Speaker 2 (01:12:05):
I mean you've consistently make it two or three hundred thousand,
four hundred, you know, have some big ones where you
get eight hundred, and then you go from that to
four point three. Yeah, it's a good day for you.

Speaker 3 (01:12:16):
Yeah, mama, Hey, what a way to spend Father's day
by winning that? Right there?

Speaker 9 (01:12:22):
Man?

Speaker 3 (01:12:22):
What a three four point three million dollars. But tonight
we have NBA Action and uh, this this series is
really entertaining to me.

Speaker 1 (01:12:33):
The more and more I keep watching this, the more
and more I get excited about what we have been
able to witness in all all of these matchups. You
start to look and say, all right, when you look
at at ok see, are they the team that we
thought they were going to be when they come into
these types of matchups? They win the game on the

(01:12:54):
road one eleven, one oh four on Friday, And it
was so many different times that you thought that the
Pacers were gonna make their run again. You just kept
looking at it, kept looking at it. But the way
that Shay Gilchris Alexander continues to control the pace people,
my boy Tyson, you met him, he was upset. He's like, man,

(01:13:14):
Shay over here just falling all out, getting all these calls,
and I'm like, if they're them, if they giving them
to them, why not keep taking.

Speaker 2 (01:13:22):
Them man hard. I don't know if you noticed this
or not, but this might be the pride game. This
might be the game where you asked Holler Burton to
show show your pride in yourself because like, you're leading good,

(01:13:42):
but you're not accepting the full weight of the franchise.

Speaker 3 (01:13:48):
Accept it, take it on, because if you have to
be Dost Vader, be Darth Vader. I'm tired of the.

Speaker 2 (01:13:54):
Guys getting hit and then falling down and then picking
them up. Pick your own teammate up, Let his buttons
sit down there.

Speaker 3 (01:14:03):
And show some fire. Everybody want to be everybody's buddies. Man.

Speaker 2 (01:14:08):
You look at Lee Dort, he found uh mattering real hard.
But it was meant to be a hard foul And
that's why I go back. Katon Clark said, sometimes you
got a foul hard. Everybody know basketball is basketball.

Speaker 1 (01:14:25):
Was that the game that they pulled Caruso from behind too,
when he was going up and they just yanked him
to the gap.

Speaker 3 (01:14:30):
Yeah, that was dirty. It was dirty, but they didn't
call it. They didn't call went and picked him up.

Speaker 2 (01:14:37):
Listen, man, you my teammate, you have a problem with
me if you pick somebody else up like you. They
have to make the series that. That's the only thing
that this series is lacking. There was a couple of
incidents that were kind of dirty. Like you said, I
thought that J. G. Topping was dirty for what he
did the Caruso, but also so payback dort when and

(01:15:04):
put Maten on the ground. Don't go pick him up.
I mean, Nate Smith, don't go.

Speaker 3 (01:15:09):
Pick him up. The whole point is to create anks.
And you know he let him off, he let him
off the hook.

Speaker 1 (01:15:17):
Well, I'm telling you right now, and I know that again.
I said it before and I'm gonna say it again.
I know that shake Gil Chris Alexander is the MVP
of this series. He's going to be it if they
win it. But Caruso deserves some votes.

Speaker 3 (01:15:33):
Man, he is balling I'm with you.

Speaker 2 (01:15:37):
He is balling when it minutes he is scoring like
nine point nine less than Caruso, I mean than Shake
Gil Shake Gills that example.

Speaker 3 (01:15:50):
He played thirty minutes on Friday.

Speaker 1 (01:15:52):
He was seven of nine from the field, he was
five or seven from the free throw line. His plus
minus was plus fourteen. Yeah, when he is on the court,
it is a difference for OKC. And I've been seeing
this kid since he was in the ninth grade and
he has always been a dog. He may not look

(01:16:16):
like it, but he is a absolute dog and he
deserves the respect of even being in consideration. I don't
know if they give a defensive or or or uh
sixth man.

Speaker 3 (01:16:28):
Of the Game of the series.

Speaker 1 (01:16:31):
He is one of those dudes that you definitely is
one of the most efficient in when.

Speaker 3 (01:16:40):
Chad had another great game as well.

Speaker 2 (01:16:43):
But I'm definitely give a vote. He deserves a vote
from somebody, is what you say.

Speaker 1 (01:16:50):
I'm locked in and I cannot wait for this game
tonight seven thirty ESP or ABC.

Speaker 3 (01:16:56):
Can not wait. Another great show.

Speaker 1 (01:16:58):
I want to thank everybody for Then make sure you
tell all your friends about the morning kickoff. We are
here Monday from Friday seven to nine a m. And
we are ready for interentertainment. We still got you covered.
From Mark Henry Infotainment, for Mark Henry, for our guy Marcus.

Speaker 3 (01:17:15):
Behind the boards. I'm harbor hard and just remember this.

Speaker 1 (01:17:18):
Don't believe everything you see, because even salt looks like
shipping peace.
