Speaker 1 (00:11):
Greased up by Rodney Terry, Texas men's basketball coach as
they continue to make their run during the regular season.
Also want to say that I got a chance to
go to the women's game last week and let me
just tell you, Coach Vick Shaffer's team is going to
be dangerous and they're going to be poised to show
(00:36):
up and show out. Their next game is Friday six thirty.
They will be in Florida taking on New Mexico State,
and then the rest of the teams will be announced
as they continue to win and go through that tournament.
But that team is deep. They've got a lot of
good players on that basketball team that understand their roles.
(00:56):
And I also wanted to say this South Carolin line
had a forty three game winning streak snapped last night
as they lost to UCLA at home. UCLA was at home,
they went on the road. And don't forget UCLA is
ranked number five in the nation. This is a good
(01:19):
basketball team UCLA. That is that goes to show you
that at any time, any day, any team could lose,
so you have to be able to run out there
and be well. Also, I wanted to mention too because
I wasn't here on Friday. Thank you to Andrew Zimmo
for making that happen and filling in for me. But
(01:42):
Gino Ariema has now become the winning this coach in
Division one basketball history, not just women but men as well.
He won twelve hundred and seventeen games so far as
they won Wednesday against Fairleigh Dickinson and everybody was there.
All of his former players were there. They gave him
(02:03):
an award. It was exciting to see. It was fun
to see because you think about what you've seen from
Connecticut Yukon and by the way, the Yukon men come
to Austin here in a couple of weeks as well,
so that is going and that's on a Sunday, so
there will be no excuse to not sell that game out.
But you start looking at the history of college basketball
(02:26):
and the players that have been put in this position
Geno Ariema and his squad. When you think about Sue Burn,
you think about Diana Tarasi, you think about what Paige
Buker's is going to be, You think about Maya Moore,
and the list goes Rebecca Lobo, the list goes on
and on and on. When you start to look at
(02:49):
these particular coaches. These are the people that shape the
lives of so many people, that push your kid, my kid,
and everybody's kid to the limit that they don't even
know how good they can possibly be. You have staying
power when you can be in the league that long
(03:09):
and you can move people to the next level and
they all come back and want to be a part
of your celebration. So shout out to Gino, one of
the best coaches in the business. But I think Texas
got one of those two and won, Vic Schaefer. So
continue to support, continue to show up and give them
all some love when we come back. Our number two
(03:32):
of a Love War and Monday edition of The Morning
Kickoff continues right here. In just a moment, don't go anywhere.
Our number two of the Morning Kickoff starts right now.
