Let it be heard on air.

Speaker 1 (01:59):
I want to get it to this conversation about last
night's football game, Mark, and it was absolutely terrible. It
was a terrible snooze fest Chicago fans. I know that
you were embarrassed. You've been dealing with this for quite
some time. Seattle. You got the win, but it was
an ugly, ugly, boring matchup for two teams that are

(02:21):
in different directions.

Speaker 2 (02:23):
I guess you would say in heart.

Speaker 3 (02:25):
You heard a lot of people after the game saying, well,
the win is a win. Whether Gino even said it,
I don't care if the score was five to four, yeah,
baseball whatever. Maybe like at some point you got to
be able to have some pride and go, you know,
this is just not good enough. Yep, it's not and

(02:45):
do something about it. But I don't put it on
just the players. It's the organizations, both of them, right,
you know, like they everybody looked at Seattle as being
an up and rising team out west.

Speaker 2 (03:03):
I never saw it.

Speaker 3 (03:04):
I had dj Metcalf on my fantasy team, dj Metcalf DK.
Even though he was ranked fifth in the NFL in projection,
he didn't project a top fifteen wide receivers in the NFL.
They have to do a better job of evaluating and

(03:26):
putting players in position for success. And I feel like
that's kind of both teams kind of mo there's a
lot less talent on Chicago. Of course, you know they're
rebuilding that franchise, you know, starting with the quarterback. But
nonetheless they still brought in pieces that were misfit toys.

Speaker 2 (03:52):
At other places.

Speaker 3 (03:54):
Misfit toys, that's basically what they are they got the
best of the scrap heat. Yeah, and I don't feel
like that's how.

Speaker 2 (04:02):
You build a team.

Speaker 1 (04:03):
I think you know, they're under a lot of scrutiny
as well. They're sitting in a position in this draft
coming up that that needs to be figured out. They're
sitting at the number seven spot right now and in
their pole position for this draft. New York, the Patriots,
the Jaguars, the Titans, the Browns, and the Raiders are

(04:26):
all ahead of them in their drafting ability. But you
still look at it. I mean, Seattle has a chance
to get into the playoffs. This is an important That
was an important win for them. That's why Gino said
what he said. And then this weekend they got to
see what happens with the Rams because next week is
going to be a big matchup for them to see
if they can clinch that even they might even be

(04:47):
able to clinch the division.

Speaker 3 (04:49):
Yeah, the Cardinals is an important game for them. Like
you know, if if the Rams go and lose, now
the Cardinals in Seattle will be able to face yeah
and see who's going to be the champ.

Speaker 1 (05:05):
Yeah, it's a it's an important matchup. So all these
games moving forward do mean something. And in the West,
the Rams are leading it at nine and six. They
need this victory against the Cardinals. The Cardinals are sitting
at seven and eight. They can play the spoiler role
and now looking forward because they've been eliminated obviously Sam France.

(05:27):
So this is a race between Seattle and in the
Rams to see who's.

Speaker 2 (05:32):
Going to be able to hold up that position shining.

Speaker 1 (05:35):
Though they playing, they're getting everybody back at the right
exactly they get the time. They're getting a lot of
people back at the right time. So it's important to
take note on what they have going on. Also just
as important to take note college football. A lot of
movement in the game in the HBCU college football is

(05:58):
hiring former You look at what Michael Vick was able
to do at Norfolk State. He hadn't even been a
coach anywhere else that I know of. I haven't heard
of Michael Vick coaching anybody, So we'll see what happens there.
Eddie George has done a really good job at Tennessee
State with that football team and being able to coach

(06:21):
that team. You look at what Dion Sanders was able
to do starting at Jackson State, and then elevating himself
to Colorado by turning around that program. It looks like
people are trying to look at Dion as the groundbreaking guy,
but Dion wasn't a groundbreaking guy. Dion actually coached in

(06:42):
high school first, like he went through the straps to
do it well. DeShawn Jackson was just named head coach
at Delaware State, just up the road from Michael Vick
at Norfolk State and former teammate of Michael Vick's. So
do you see this trend starting to happen again? And

(07:03):
do you think that they're hiring these guys not just
for the recognition, but because they're going to be able
to associate with some people.

Speaker 2 (07:13):
I think so hard.

Speaker 3 (07:14):
And also Ed Reid is still trying to get a job,
and Ray Lewis is also in consideration for a job.
And I think it's not just the fact that they're
looking for names. I think they're looking at guys that
want to coach, They.

Speaker 2 (07:31):
Want to lead young men.

Speaker 3 (07:32):
They want to be able to have a platform, and
what better platform than to go and try to share
what you've learned in your life. Always said that I
didn't want to take everything I know to the grave that.
You know, I want to share as much of it
as I can because at some point, there's going to

(07:53):
come a day where people are not going to look
at you as this main source of information.

Speaker 2 (07:58):
They'll think your time has passed, right, you know.

Speaker 3 (08:01):
That's why we get so much static from people talking
about Bill Belichick.

Speaker 1 (08:05):
Or another name going back to college. But he's got
a resume. But his resume speaks for itself.

Speaker 3 (08:12):
Yeah, but it's cool to see, Excuse me, it's cool
to see all of these former players that are getting
these coaching jobs.

Speaker 1 (08:22):
Well, one of the coaches that just stepped away was
Jim Lennega. He has decided to walk away from the season,
and the reason being he didn't want to deal with nil.
That's another thing that these guys are going to have
to deal with. But he said he is just tired.

Speaker 4 (08:41):
I loved the game and I love the university that much.
I felt like, Okay, there's one thing you got to
constantly ask yourself. Are you going to give everything you
have the commitment that it is one hundred of yourself physically, mentally, emotionally.

(09:08):
But I'm exhausted. I've tried every which way to keep
this going and I know I'm going to be asked
a lot of questions, but I want to answer them
before I'm even asked. What shocked me beyond belief was
after we made it to the Final four just eighteen

(09:29):
months ago, the very first time I met with the players,
eight of them decided they were going to put their
name in the portal and leave.

Speaker 2 (09:38):
I said, don't you like it? No, I love it.
I love Miami. It's great. But the opportunity to.

Speaker 4 (09:49):
Make money someplace else created a situation that you have
to begin to ask yourself as a coach, what is
this all about?

Speaker 2 (10:01):
And the answer is, it's become professional.

Speaker 1 (10:06):
Unbelievable. Wow, unbelievable, And it has become professional. And that
is why a lot of people are walking away from
the game that a lot of people love.

Speaker 3 (10:17):
There are a lot of people that are coaches hard.
They are coaches. They teach football and they teach leadership.
They're not general managers. They don't know how to manage
a cap. They don't A lot of this stuff is
brand new to them that they have to hire people
to do that side of it. And I mean, you know,
we were up against it, but I'm just saying that's

(10:38):
that's a good conversation.

Speaker 1 (10:39):
Yeah, yeah, it's unbelievable. It's unbelievable to think about. But
we'll continue those conversations. But coming up next, we're gonna
hear from the head coach of the Arizona State Sun
Devils as they prepare to take on the Texas Longhorns
right here on the Morning Kickoff Feel Good Friday edition
of The Morning Kickoff on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred.

Speaker 2 (10:58):
That's all
