Kelly Nash, Welcome on the phone, morning, Rush. You're regularly good
to talk to you again. Bygosh, he's the CAA twenty twenty two
Coach of the Year. Chad Holbrook, Hello, coach. Hey Kelly Johnson.
Uh so, good to talk toyou. Guys. I miss you.
Look we miss you too, butwe're excited to read about you.
We know we follow you at theCollege of Charleston, so we're glad to
see you in doing good things foryour baseball program. It's exciting. I'm

(00:22):
lucky to work at a great schooland for a great baseball program. I
get to coach great players, andI live in a phenomenal city. So
life is good right now for me. Well, South Carolina is an awesome
place to live. And one ofthe things that you started when you were
living here in Columbia is a benefitbasically for Camp Cole. And I know
that that's a thing that's close toyour heart. But the things that you've

(00:44):
been putting together the last several yearsfor this fundraiser have been amazing. Well,
we love Camp Cole. My wifeand I. When Reach, our
son was diagnosed with cancer, oneof the things that really made a difference
for us and our Make a Wishtrip. We went to Give Kids the
World Village and in Orlando Flatter, right outside of all Disney World, and
it made the look on my kids'face when he was facing some very difficult

(01:07):
circumstances was something that stuck with me. Well, we have our own Give
Kids the World Village. You know, right down the road here was Kemp
Cole and we're lucky to be apart of it. It gives kids and
that are facing some really tough circumstances, whether it be cancer, homelessness,
you know, domestic abuse situations, child abuse situations, you name it.
It gives kids a freedom to havefun, be a kid, do all

(01:33):
kind of need activities. So weour family to Gin and I and Rees
and Cooper could not be more proudto be associated with Kemp Cold only do
all that we can to help.Well. I know, in the past,
you've had a lot of country musicartists. You know, it's funny
how many country music stars were collegeathletes, in particular college baseball players.
But as of recent Kelly Nash isall excited again because you're bringing back your

(01:55):
yacht rock theme. Kelly loves it. He shows up looking like the billion
Mere off of Gilligan's Island going well. Kind of what we wanted to do
was make a tradition to have aholiday party. It's obviously a celebratory time
of the season. There's no there'sno show like a yacht Rock review show,

(02:15):
and tickets there don't sell right nowat the Township for our our our
party and concert, and it isa treat. If you haven't seen them
play, you're in for a treat. If you have seen them, they
just keep getting better and better, and and we're close to we're close to
selling out the Township and uh,there's a couple of hundred tickets left.
So it's it's exciting for us,you know, we had it at the

(02:38):
Sendate before yacht Rock has really grown, you know, and they're selling a
thousand tickets fifteen hundred tickets at alot of venues, and now they're selling
up with the three thousand and fourthousands just because of the show they put
on. It puts everybody in agood mood. We want to help Camp
Cole. Uh, it's obviously areason to celebrate for that time of year,

(02:58):
being Christmas time, and we justthink all these forces come together.
Couldn't be a better way to celebratethe season and to benefit Camp Coold.
And they have yacht Rock Revie playat the township Chad Holbrook with us and
we're talking about Campcold. Dot orgis their website and on that website you
can see more about the Yacht RockReview benefit concert. And uh, this

(03:19):
is going to be happening on aFriday night, which is perfect December fifteenth,
twenty twenty three. And there now, I guess there's still an availability
for people if they want to becomesponsors as well, because it mentions there's
a VIP event which is exclusive tosponsors, which will start at five thirty
that night. So if you ifyour company wants to get involved, there's
an opportunity. But if you wantto just get one of the last few
hundred tickets that are available, youcould do that as well. Well,

(03:44):
here's here's here's here's our fault process. When it comes to corporate sponsorship.
You a lot of corporate leaders andbusiness leaders have Christmas parties anyway, they
have Christmas parties for their employees ortheir colleagues, are people that they work
with on a daily basis. Whatwe're in can you do is hey,
don't go through all the hustle andbustle a plane and let us do all
that work. Have your Christmas partywith us. That's a great idea that

(04:06):
are out there, You guys thatare out there that are working hard daily.
You don't want to have the extrastress of putting a party on just
for just for you know, aquick and added stress to your job.
To bring your company with us,we'll have to. I can promise you
this. Your employees and the peopleyou work with daily, we'll have the
time of their lives. So bringyour Christmas party to us. We'll suprise

(04:29):
that we'll supply that you entertainment, the great food, one of a kind
auction stuff before the show. Youknow, we were lucky to have coach
Biemer involved in it last year. There's already been a number of coaches at
South Carolina and the local celebrities reachout that want to be a part of
it a year and come join us. I can tell it's the Christmas party
of all Christmas parties. Yeah,I'm just thinking now that I know how
Kelly always dresses for this event,I wish my hair was doing that thing.

(04:51):
It was doing back in the eighties, right, you know this is
a show so big it may actuallydemand hair extensions. I might have to
go get that that little way ofgoing in the back, Jonathan, Jonathan,
you have there. I know,Ja and I need the hair starter
kit. I can tell you thatI'm gonna. You know, we encourage

(05:12):
when you go to a yacht rockefuteshow. They're following is so a pretty
strong following. And people do showup in their best seventies gear and their
butterfly collars and bill bottom jeens andtheir sailor hat. It is a hoop,
I mean it is. You danceall night long, you get the
people watching once some people you know, have great times and uh and again
you're doing it for an incredible causein Camp Coal. And I couldn't think

(05:34):
of a better a better holiday party, for a better cause for the young
people in our Midlands that are thatare fighting some very difficult circumstances. And
uh and us old folks get toshow up and being a team to raise
a lot of money for Camp Coldand have a good time celebration. Yeah,
and if you want to support CampCole, there's certainly reason enough.
Thank you in advance for purchasing yourticket and if you just want a great

(05:56):
show, and what I think isthe best auditorium because of the acoustics.
There's no better place for a concertthan of the Township Auditorium. It just
sounds terrific in there. I've hada number of concerts over the years for
our foundation at the Township. Offolks are so nice to me and us
in the community and they love doingbenefit shows like this. And when we
told him a couple of years agowe wanted to do yacht rock and they's

(06:18):
like, it's gonna be great,it's gonna be private. We don't know
if we'll sell them out. Nowthey're saying, OK, you guys are
gonna sell it out, and that'sthat's really really cool. It's kind of
kind of kind of becoming a holidaytradition in the Midlands, you know,
and we want we want these thesethese local businesses and these leaders to say,
hey, you know, if youget your groups together for a Christmas

(06:39):
party, have it with us.I can tell you it'll be the time
of your life. That's this ishow yacht rock does it. And you'll
feel great about yourself, attendant becauseof what you're doing for Camp Cole.
All right, Camp Camp Cole's thebig fundraiser coming up. You can go
to Camp Cole dot org for moreinformation. Chad Holebrook, thanks for all
you do for our community and forthe kids in this neighborhood and just it's

(07:01):
a blessing what you're doing for allof them, and thanks for allowing us
to be a part of it.Man, I tell you were awesome.
Last year was awesome having you andangel To out there and Jonathan. We
gotta get you there. I'm gonnaget I'm gonna get the hair extensions.
I'm getting them. We gotta getyou on stage to introduce the band and
have a kick off a wonderful night. Need y'all there, man, And

(07:23):
I can't think you much for allowingme. Hey while I got you on
the phone, I gotta tell youthat not only am I excited about the
show, but just in a personalnote, about a month ago, I
was looking for my CFC baseball capand I can't find it. I need
a new one. I'll bring youone. I got some shirt, I
got all kinds of merchandise for you. We'll bring it. We'll bring it

(07:44):
to you. And there's no doubtabout that. That's easy to do,
Chad Holbrook. Tell your wife becausewe know that she's the one that drives
the boat on all the important things, and in this case, she's driving
the yacht. Tell her we saidhi and we're looking forward to the big
show. Thank you guys so much. I will tell her hello and I
can't wait to see you guys, guys and to have a great event for
the community Columbia. See you inDecember fifteenth. See you, Thank you.

The Burden

The Burden

The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. And it focuses a spotlight on those who triumph even when the odds are against them. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; “He paid me to do it.” David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a “live” investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Maggie had come to believe that the entire investigation of David was botched by the tiny local police department, or worse, covered up the real killer. Was Maggie correct? Was David’s claim of innocence credible? In Death and Deceit in Alliance, Maggie recounts the case that launched her career, and ultimately, “broke” her.” The results will shock the listener and reduce Maggie to tears and self-doubt. This is not your typical wrongful conviction story. In fact, it turns the genre on its head. It asks the question: What if our champions are foolish? Season 4 - The Burden: Get the Money and Run “Trying to murder my father, this was the thing that put me on the path.” That’s Joe Loya and that path was bank robbery. Bank, bank, bank, bank, bank. In season 4 of The Burden: Get the Money and Run, we hear from Joe who was once the most prolific bank robber in Southern California, and beyond. He used disguises, body doubles, proxies. He leaped over counters, grabbed the money and ran. Even as the FBI was closing in. It was a showdown between a daring bank robber, and a patient FBI agent. Joe was no ordinary bank robber. He was bright, articulate, charismatic, and driven by a dark rage that he summoned up at will. In seven episodes, Joe tells all: the what, the how… and the why. Including why he tried to murder his father. Season 3 - The Burden: Avenger Miriam Lewin is one of Argentina’s leading journalists today. At 19 years old, she was kidnapped off the streets of Buenos Aires for her political activism and thrown into a concentration camp. Thousands of her fellow inmates were executed, tossed alive from a cargo plane into the ocean. Miriam, along with a handful of others, will survive the camp. Then as a journalist, she will wage a decades long campaign to bring her tormentors to justice. Avenger is about one woman’s triumphant battle against unbelievable odds to survive torture, claim justice for the crimes done against her and others like her, and change the future of her country. Season 2 - The Burden: Empire on Blood Empire on Blood is set in the Bronx, NY, in the early 90s, when two young drug dealers ruled an intersection known as “The Corner on Blood.” The boss, Calvin Buari, lived large. He and a protege swore they would build an empire on blood. Then the relationship frayed and the protege accused Calvin of a double homicide which he claimed he didn’t do. But did he? Award-winning journalist Steve Fishman spent seven years to answer that question. This is the story of one man’s last chance to overturn his life sentence. He may prevail, but someone’s gotta pay. The Burden: Empire on Blood is the director’s cut of the true crime classic which reached #1 on the charts when it was first released half a dozen years ago. Season 1 - The Burden In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary. In a city overrun by violent crime, he cracked the toughest cases and put away the worst criminals. “The Hulk” was his nickname. Then the story changed. Scarcella ran into a group of convicted murderers who all say they are innocent. They turned themselves into jailhouse-lawyers and in prison founded a lway firm. When they realized Scarcella helped put many of them away, they set their sights on taking him down. And with the help of a NY Times reporter they have a chance. For years, Scarcella insisted he did nothing wrong. But that’s all he’d say. Until we tracked Scarcella to a sauna in a Russian bathhouse, where he started to talk..and talk and talk. “The guilty have gone free,” he whispered. And then agreed to take us into the belly of the beast. Welcome to The Burden.
