Speaker 1 (00:00):
What's up? You hear me every afternoon on the world
famous Z one hundred, And I'm so happy to be
here inside of our Duncan music lounge. I'm Corystal Rolsas
and we have standing next to ys Matt, Alex and
Harry with up. Guys. Hello the Backfires. This is home
to them. They have been playing all over and we're
(00:20):
so excited because they have a really fun show tonight.
We're going to get to it. But first of all,
welcome home. Thanks for being here. You guys just took
the train here. How are you feeling?
Speaker 2 (00:29):
Yeah, pretty fresh, electric, feeling great, feeling greatly great.
Speaker 3 (00:32):
Cool.
Speaker 1 (00:33):
What does it feel like living in New York City
a few years now and you guys are working on
your music together, exploring the streets, meeting new people, traveling
and performing. How is it to call a New York home?
Speaker 4 (00:46):
I think it's very exciting.
Speaker 2 (00:47):
I think that you know, it's none of us are
from here, and I think that like having moved here
like in the last several years and found a base
here and found a home here has been really exciting.
I think that, like Matt and I grew up outside
of DC and so New York was sort of always
like the city to end up in and Harris Harrison.
Speaker 5 (01:06):
From England, this is not the city that you expect
to end up in, Dame from England. But it's very cool,
it's definitely.
Speaker 6 (01:12):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:13):
So many people go to LA and that's where they
start their journeys. But I have so much respect for
people that want to start their music journeys in this city.
Why did you guys decide that New York was calling you?
Speaker 4 (01:24):
I mean, so it's just rock and roll.
Speaker 2 (01:28):
East Coast born and raised, you know, I think it's
much cooler.
Speaker 4 (01:31):
Yeah, definitely, I mean New York versus LA.
Speaker 3 (01:33):
I mean New York.
Speaker 1 (01:34):
Sorry, but it's true. Harrying Out, you have been able
to live in New York for a few years, and
I'm sure it's been a dream of yours to come
over here. Is it everything and more?
Speaker 5 (01:43):
Yeah, for sure, it's been amazing. It's actually unbelievable, so
you got to get used to it. But then sometimes
you see the Empire State Building or something. We live
in a We live in Bushwick now though quite far
away from the Empire State voting.
Speaker 1 (01:56):
Yeah, no, you really hit on something because every day
living here, it's not easy, like it's honestly a lot
easier to live in LA but there's a reason that
we decide to be here on this side. Yeah, but
you're right, Harry. When you're walking around sometimes you get
a glimpse, even from the other side of the river.
You see the Empire State Building, you see those subway signs.
What does that mean to you? Guys?
Speaker 4 (02:18):
It's kind of surreal.
Speaker 2 (02:19):
I mean, it's like it's one of those things where
you don't always think about what's going on all the
time or where you are all the time, and then
like you pinch yourself and you're like, wait a second,
I'm here, I'm right now, I'm in New York, I'm
in a band. You know, we're doing this, and it's
like it's all really exciting things and sometimes, you know,
you have to take a second to look around and
see it all otherwise you're gonna blink and you're gonna miss.
Speaker 1 (02:38):
It for really. Yeah, And you guys have been touring
together for a few years now and working as a
band together on doing all the things that we love
to see you do on stage. How has touring you've
been as a group?
Speaker 3 (02:52):
That's great. I think we've always like looked up to
bands that are are touring bands. So you know, it's
been a dream just travel a country, like a lot
of places like we've never been to. So it's cool,
just like meeting fans in different places and hearing people's stories.
Speaker 1 (03:07):
What are some cities that we might think are underrated
that you guys have checked out? Every would get go
for go for everyone picked one like, yeah.
Speaker 3 (03:15):
Well we just thought Springfield, Missouri was super charming.
Speaker 1 (03:19):
Yeah wait, why are you so excited about Springfield?
Speaker 6 (03:23):
And it was a vibe.
Speaker 3 (03:25):
It's just like it's like a quaint little.
Speaker 5 (03:26):
Town, the site of the first junel oh, you know.
Speaker 4 (03:30):
It was like the yeah, the first like western standard.
Speaker 6 (03:32):
Yeah wait, what.
Speaker 2 (03:33):
Do you mean like like like you know, like those
old cowboys cowboy things like gunslinger battles.
Speaker 1 (03:38):
You I saw that or started. That's just where rumor
has the Springfield where you at out here America on
your back. That's that's interesting. I didn't know that.
Speaker 6 (03:48):
We didn't either.
Speaker 4 (03:51):
You know, it was crazy.
Speaker 2 (03:52):
It was one of those things where it's like you
get to some of these places and like they're not
places that you would ever like think that you would
end up going to, and then you go and it's
like sort of like, oh wow, there's like all these
really interesting people here.
Speaker 4 (04:04):
There's all these like interesting culture here.
Speaker 2 (04:05):
There's like, you know, cool cafes and cool and you're
like a second cool, you spent some time here.
Speaker 5 (04:11):
Cool cafes is the height of too necessary.
Speaker 3 (04:14):
You fall in love with Like every little small town
you go to, you.
Speaker 1 (04:17):
Guys are scoping out which one is just going to
be the new TikTok blow Up and Springfield.
Speaker 4 (04:24):
Exactly.
Speaker 1 (04:25):
That's so cool. Well, one thing that we're so thankful
you guys decided to do for us new Yorkers is
you wrote a love song, a love letter to New
York brighter lights and the music video the vibe of it.
Congratulations and thank you so much for doing that. Why
did you feel like it was so important to pop
out as one of your singles recently?
Speaker 5 (04:47):
I think you got.
Speaker 2 (04:48):
I think it was sort of like one of those
things where we're going to be putting out some more music,
and it just felt like we've been working a lot
of music in New York and it felt like a
really good introduction to this like ero of us as
a band into like us being a band in New
York city, and I think for Bridal Light, So it's
sort of like, you know, this experience that we have
and so many other people have of moving to New
(05:08):
York and sort of being enamored by you know, the
big city and the big lights and all of it
and sort of like, you know, what is that? What
is it like motivation or sort of what sort of
carrying you along?
Speaker 1 (05:20):
So and for the music video, you guys are in
a club, it's crowded, you guys are playing your instruments.
I mean I was getting like a panic attack watch,
but you guys are killing it. How fun was it
to film the video?
Speaker 5 (05:31):
Very fun? Yeah, there's a highest element to it as well.
We were in suits and we battle club was stole
a discoble?
Speaker 3 (05:38):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (05:38):
That might have been the most fun part?
Speaker 7 (05:40):
Was it?
Speaker 5 (05:40):
Mustang?
Speaker 2 (05:41):
Yeah? I think it was just sort of like how
can you I think with New York and being in
a city like this, it's sort of like everything is
big er, everything is like more spectacular, And I think
with that video is sort of like how can we
just try and do like lean into it, just lean
into the craziness of that and like sort of like
what a crazy night in New York could end up
being like.
Speaker 1 (05:58):
It really is, I mean even crazy easier than that too,
but that really hits it so much. Also, we're so
happy about your song. Well happy, I don't know if
that's the word. I really felt. I really felt it
when you guys put this one out Dressed for a funeral. Yeah,
it's talking about when you see someone after a breakup
and that weird like situation. Yeah yeah, what made you
(06:20):
guys want to write about that?
Speaker 2 (06:21):
I think it's just sort of one of those things
that's very universal, and it's like, you know, say you
have an accent. It's like I feel like there's sometimes
things can get left off where you know it's not been.
Speaker 4 (06:33):
Completely resolved or there's not been like a you know.
Speaker 2 (06:36):
Resolution I expose, and so you see them and maybe
it's like coffee, maybe it's strengths, and you're sort of like,
how are you doing? And then it's like sort of
like you're then confronted with both of what's been going
on for either of you in the time since you've
been together, and it's like sort of like is it
better to have seen them? Is it not better to
have seen them? And it's sort of like you know
dealing with that moment.
Speaker 1 (06:55):
Yeah, I've ran into one of my New York x's
just once. Yeah, and he was like helping like one
of our old friends move out of my building. So
I saw him like it like as we're r and
it was just kind of like a you're like shocked,
You're shook, like you know, has that actually happened to you?
Guys in real life? Who has a story? Like who
can share? You don't go into detail what happened?
Speaker 3 (07:15):
Oh no I haven't, Matt, No, I mean everyone has it.
I don't know. I think I've run into a couple
access before.
Speaker 1 (07:24):
Okay, how do you act?
Speaker 3 (07:27):
You know, try to be like, oh hey, how I'm
gonna I'm gonna go though that's nice.
Speaker 1 (07:35):
You don't just ignore.
Speaker 6 (07:36):
Act like it depends.
Speaker 1 (07:37):
It depends. Okay, sometimes we're gonna ignore.
Speaker 6 (07:39):
Well no, no, not ignore.
Speaker 3 (07:40):
I'd never ignore, but like if it's not my it's
not my space, I'll leave.
Speaker 1 (07:46):
Has that happened to you, Harry?
Speaker 8 (07:48):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (07:48):
I think when we've the writing session for the song
start been telling stories about it. I think they're a
bit too close to hunt to retell. But I think
it just demonstrated that everyone goes through that and we
wants to ride about it because you're hurt.
Speaker 1 (08:02):
You're hurt. I know, it's okay, just kidding, I'm just kidding.
Speaker 3 (08:07):
We weren't prepared to spill the tea.
Speaker 1 (08:09):
Sometimes we're gonna spill the dunkin coffee.
Speaker 6 (08:11):
It happens.
Speaker 1 (08:12):
We got to do it here, No, but for real,
we're so excited that you guys have a sold out
show to night here in New York City. Congratulations? Than what,
like that is huge? How does that feel?
Speaker 2 (08:28):
I think it was sort of like we hadn't played
in New York for a minute, and so we were
sort of really excited to like try and do another
couple of shows. And we've got a lot more music out,
like a lot of new music out, and so like
that's gonna be really exciting to like play with people
that now know it versus sort of playing it on
the road and everyone kind of looking at you blankly
being like cool.
Speaker 6 (08:48):
I guess you know.
Speaker 2 (08:49):
And then and so I think it'll be really fun
to do that and sort of share that with fans,
and uh, we're gonna be going over to London a
couple of weeks and doing sort of a similar thing
and then hopefully some more shows soon.
Speaker 1 (09:00):
Yeah, exactly what you said. You really feel it. What
do you see this when you see it online? This
has sold out. You know that these people want to
see us. You know we've opened up, we've gone on tours,
but now this is for us and we're feeling the
love back in your own city that you guys are
calling home. So congratulations of course, and we're excited to
see a little sneak peek right now inside of our

Speaker 2 (20:31):
Wow, I know, I don't even know how to talk that.
I you know what, I'm gonna go safe. I'm gonna

Speaker 2 (20:47):
But but like but like we we used to get
like Dunkin Donuts before going to like swim practice and
stuff when we were kids, and so I think that,
like we just go and get duncan. You know he
lives in Boston now, so I think he's a big
duncan guy up there.
Speaker 4 (21:03):
He would appreciate it, probably more than anyone else I
could think about on that.
Speaker 1 (21:06):
And you miss your bro? You miss him?
Speaker 4 (21:08):
Yeah, I haven't seen him in Mike, I guess a
couple of months.

the world. It's like your family that hits close, so
I respect that, Harry, what about you.
Speaker 5 (21:23):
I think Liam Gallagher a good choice. I prefer no,
but I think Liam's reaction to the doughnuts and the
whole experience would be much you would.
Speaker 1 (21:32):
Yeah, it'll cause a scene. It'll be a very New
York scene, chaos it.
Speaker 5 (21:37):
Yeah, because I didn't think there's Dunkin Donuts in England.
I don't know fact check.
Speaker 1 (21:42):
