Driven by cultural curiosity, celebrity chef Hugh Acheson (Bravo TV's Top Chef, Iron Chef Canada) is a globetrotter who travels the world for his acclaimed cooking and his television appearances, and he knows the best way to understand a destination starts with a good meal. This new travel podcast takes listeners off the beaten path with Hugh’s opinionated anecdotes and insights on where to go, what to eat, who to meet, what to do, where to stay – as well as what overrated tourist experiences to avoid. Episodes focus on a single destination, be it Havana, Cuba or Cincinnati, Ohio, and dig into its unique culture through food, music, literature and cinema. There’s narrative storytelling, interviews, and a whole lot of exploration.

Speaker 1 (00:00):
I'm Hugh Adjison. I'm a chef, a restaurant ur, a traveler,
and now I'm the host of The Passenger from My
Heart Radio. I travel a lot for work and being
a chef and doing all these things, and people ask
me all the time, you know, what's that list of
places to go in this city? In that city? Where's
a good coffee shop? What's a good museum? So I've
always doodled and created lists, and this show is dedicated

(00:23):
to that idea, immersed from yourself in that culture and
finding out what's intriguing about that place and what resounds
and where they at and what we think about the
future of that place as a visitor. As a passenger,
we'll get to know Havana, Bogo Island, Newfoundland, Montreal, Austin, Toronto,

(00:45):
the West Village of New York, Lisbon, oh Porto. We'll
even find out what makes Boise, Idaho and international city.
I'll give you my take, and then we'll hear from
folks who are from there to give us a more
complete picture. I always missed something. One of the key
things that I don't think anyone really puts pieces together
is the link between creativity and cheap rent. It is

(01:08):
a society that can get by with nothing. And that's
why you should go there in a lot of ways,
because despite every hurdle put in front of them every day,
these are people who are innately happy. Culture is nothing
more than a response to a place, so we wanted
to put place and community back in the center of life.
