Speaker 1 (00:00):
I'm talking to Chapel Heart, and I am so honored
that you ladies are calling.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
Are all three of you on the line with me?
Speaker 3 (00:07):
Well, you have two of the three. You have Tree and.
Speaker 1 (00:10):
Dev okay, Devin Tree okay. And I was wondering because
you know, I watched you guys on AGT. I was
rooting for you. I was voting for you.
Speaker 2 (00:21):
Oh. I just thought you were so great.
Speaker 1 (00:24):
And so I feel like I know you and I'm
just getting to know you all at once because that
was such a cool experience.
Speaker 3 (00:31):
Yes, I'll say a lot of people say that it
felt like whenever we finally meet them in person. They
only say it feels like I've known you for forever.
But I think that's just kind of the people that
we are. We don't meet a stranger.
Speaker 1 (00:44):
Oh absolutely, So just to give people some background, You're
going to be here on the fourth Fest, which is
coming up in Coralville, and that'll be on July third,
and it's going to be such a great show. Phil
Vasser will be on stage two with you, ladies, so
you'll be sharing the same stage.
Speaker 3 (01:03):
So cool, right, Yes, And you just, first of all,
you set the words out of my mouth because I
feel like, I mean, I know we're gonna be performing
at the fourth Fast, but how can you not just
gotta any opportunity to listen to Phil vaster things.
Speaker 1 (01:18):
I know he's so talented and not only is he
a great performer and pianist and vocalist, but he writes
so great. And I mean not to take the spotlight
off of you, ladies, because you've written tremendous songs. And
I absolutely love Jesus and Alcohol. It is like one
(01:42):
of my anthem songs. Well, I'm serious, it's so good.
Speaker 3 (01:47):
Oh and I have to say that was actually one
of the songs this is tree by the way, by
the way, and that whole I feel like the experience
of writing that whole song was kind of surreal because
you know, we were all cooped up, like four of
us in one tiny hotel room, and you know, Dev
(02:09):
was like, we should write a song with an alliteration,
and Danica was like, what is an alliteration? And she's like,
you know, like Bible, burd and breakup, and like as
soon as those words left her mouth, it's like the
light bulb went off in the entire room. Yeah, that
right there, and that's the song that introduced us to
our now uncle Billy Gibbons. So that song will always
(02:33):
Have you seen the music video?
Speaker 1 (02:34):
Oh my gosh, yes, And the hair just stood up
on my neck when you mentioned that, because it is
such a surprise.
Speaker 2 (02:41):
When I watched the video, I.
Speaker 3 (02:42):
Was like, what, yes, getting that? I think that is
probably on This is Devin and that is probably one
of my top three videos and songs that we've written.
I'm telling you it is just it's fun. And I
think at first a lot of people didn't really understand
and the song or you know, where we were standing
(03:03):
in the song. But we were like, that's an honest
song and it may not be everyone's truth, but you know,
that's how some people deal with life and deal with breakups.
And I think I just yeah, I'll say, I just
think a lot of people could relate with it. Oh
once I got it, got it?
Speaker 1 (03:20):
Oh yeah absolutely. And just the fact that you got
a legend to play guitar on.
Speaker 2 (03:27):
That track.
Speaker 3 (03:29):
And that that part is still like kind of mind
boggling because after we had written this song, we went
to see our booking agent the next day and we said, hey,
we just wrote this song and want you to check
it out. And we played it for him and it
was like silence in the room and we were like, well,
we wrote another one. And he's like, don't touch it,
(03:50):
don't do anything, do it. And he said, I know
one person who I think like would really enjoy this song.
And he used to be the booking agent for zz
Top and he said, I'm gonna send it to him now.
Usually he wasn't expecting to get an answer back, because
he said, if you send Billy Gibbons a message, sometimes
it might be six months later he might answer you back.
(04:11):
Just don't expect much. He sent the song to him
and he called and he texted him back after about
five minutes and he was like, this is the freshest
thing I've heard in about a decade.
Speaker 2 (04:20):
Oh yeah.
Speaker 3 (04:21):
And then and he sent him a couple more songs,
and then he sent him our picture and he was like, wait,
you got to be pulling my leg, like what's going on?
And he said, whatever those girls need, I will be there.
And we said, well, you know, we are gonna be
working on a music video. And as I like to say,
sometimes I feel like COVID happened just for us, because
the Lord shut down his Vegas residency, so he was free.
(04:42):
So he came to Nashville shot the video and we
ain't been rid of and said.
Speaker 2 (04:47):
I love that story. That is awesome.
Speaker 1 (04:50):
You guys have had a lot of like I would
call like kissmet kind of things. I mean, you were
you got together in twenty fourteen. Now what actually, I
because this blows my mind. I have to know. I
know you're related, and so that kind of family harmony
(05:11):
is just like it blows your mind. But what got
you girls thinking we have to we have to do
this as a profession. I mean, what was that moment
when you said this is absolutely magical?
Speaker 3 (05:28):
Well, this is true, and strangely enough, I feel like
that moment kind of came well after the fact, because
you know, first of all, growing up in a small
town like Poplarville, Mississippi, being an entertainer that's not a
real job. You know, it's like one of those one
in a million things, and it's it's like it's it's
(05:51):
just not a thing. It's not to be done. And
so whenever, like I moved to New Orleans and you know,
I did a lot of other things and were like
you should sing, you should sing, And I was like no,
I mean, I guess I know how to sing, but
like I need to have a job. I needed. That's
what I've been taught my whole life. And then my
sister and I we are to like tried to convince
(06:14):
our cousin Dani could to come down, and that took
about two years of convincing because I like to say,
Paperville and New Orleans are about forty miles and forty
years apart. Yea, so and so it's it's literally a
different world. So a lot of people people like were
reluctant to you know, move to the big easy. And
(06:34):
so she finally came down, and we like kind of
had no clue what we were doing. We just made
got a list of songs and Okay, we want to
sing somewhere, so let's just go sing on the street.
And it kind of evolved and stuff from singing on
the street to singing into bars and you know, I say,
we've done ballrooms and backyards and barrooms and everything in between.
But I think like it was during that cultivating our
(06:58):
own I guess even like style of show while performing
in New Orleans, like after dev joined us, like it
was like it was kind of undeniable. But it was
one of those you don't realize how far you've walked
until you turn around and see the road behind you.
Speaker 2 (07:18):
Yeah. Wow yeah.
Speaker 3 (07:19):
And I was like, oh, we're we're doing this, doing this.
Speaker 2 (07:23):
Yeah, you're doing this. You're full?
Speaker 1 (07:25):
What four albums and eleven singles so far?
Speaker 2 (07:30):
Or am I am I little short? Because now that's that?
Speaker 3 (07:34):
That's correct?
Speaker 2 (07:36):
Yeah, that feels that's pretty. That's I mean.
Speaker 1 (07:39):
And like American Pride, that would be the original that
you performed in the finals of AGT and that wow,
that song is amazing.
Speaker 2 (07:53):
Now who who?
Speaker 1 (07:55):
You girls all contribute when you write, like get together
and all like that out or does one person kind
of carry a little more than the other.
Speaker 3 (08:06):
Usually when we write, we all write together, but we
always say the method is there is no method. Sometimes
it's because like I feel like we were blessed enough
to come across with like a couple of great songwriters
when we were first getting started, like Tony hazeled it,
and I remember he told us everything is in service
to the song. Like sometimes you may have one thing
(08:26):
on your mind and the song will just slap that
thing right out of your lips and tell you what
it's supposed to be. Yeah, and so as Oh I'm sorry.
Speaker 1 (08:38):
Oh no, I was just gonna I so agree with
you because you may start with an idea you think
is going one way, and then by the time you
get three really sharp minds, it goes in another direction
and you can embrace that.
Speaker 3 (08:54):
Uh yes. And I feel like that's one of my
favorite parts about like the songwriting process and even like
you know, just writing with each other and other people,
because like you said, you might have one thing on
your mind. Like whenever we were writing this song, if
you ain't wearing boots, we could have swore that was
gonna be a sassy you know. If you don't know this,
you don't know that, then you ain't wearing boots. And
(09:16):
by the time we finished that song, like at least
the first ten times we performed it, I cried like
a baby, like this was not supposed to be this
at all.
Speaker 1 (09:27):
Yeah, And that's the way music hits a lot of people.
That's why I guess I love so many different styles
and so much music because it is so subjective and
people can interpret it in many ways to fit their lives.
Because music really is about your life, right.
Speaker 3 (09:48):
And I think this is definite. I was just gonna
say kind of the same thing you were saying. I
love how music has a way of resonating with people differently,
and so what's the what a song means to one
person can be a completely different meaning to someone else,
and then you hear both of them and it's like, oh,
well I could see it from from that perspective as well,
(10:12):
And I just think that is one of the coolest
things about music.
Speaker 1 (10:15):
Mm hm, So deb what do you guys have going
on like right now? I mean, I know you're probably
out on tour and it's getting crazy.
Speaker 3 (10:24):
Yes, indeed. So we just got back from the Pharaoh
Islands and we had an absolute blast there and we
got we got our show there and a couple of
more shows in the States and then we are getting
ready to go to Norway next. We have Norway in Germany.
Speaker 2 (10:46):
Wow.
Speaker 3 (10:48):
Yeah. So we have a busy summer, busy rest of
the year and we are excited and that's why we're uping.
We're gonna be stopping through Coralville before yeah.
Speaker 1 (11:00):
Oh yeah, I mean this the park is going to
fill with people. It's going to be such a great time.
People come out, they they bring their kids, they bring
their pets, they bring you know, lawn chairs, and.
Speaker 2 (11:12):
We're just going to fill it up for you. I
love that, well, dev Tree.
Speaker 1 (11:16):
We are so excited to have you and Danica all
you know coming along and you know, just performing.
Speaker 2 (11:22):
I can't wait to see you girls live.
Speaker 1 (11:24):
I feel like I've already seen you live because you've
been on TV, but I feel like it's a whole
different vibe when you're like in person, face to face.
Speaker 3 (11:32):
Oh definitely. Well, we can't wait to see you there.
