Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is going to be so much fun, y'all. Craig
Needs is here and he's the marketing director with National
Street Rod Association, which of course is going to be
the first ever Quad Cities Street Rod Nationals this weekend.
And Craig, thank you so much for talking a bit
about what's going on here this weekend.

Speaker 2 (00:23):
I was glad to be here.

Speaker 1 (00:24):
Well, let's first because some people, because this is the
first ever, are not familiar with the National Street Rod Association.
Can you explain a little bit about it?

Speaker 2 (00:34):
Sure, it was a National Street Road Association. Was started
back in nineteen seventy by Roden Custom Magazine and then
after a couple of years, they sold the association to
our current owner, and we've been putting on shows ever since.
We had just had our fifty fifth Street Rode Nationals
in Llisville, Kentucky, a little over a week ago.

Speaker 1 (00:54):
So that's like the mother of all. But this is
going to be a pretty big event this week.

Speaker 2 (01:00):
Yeah. We have nine divisional events. This is one of
our new divisional events. We have nine divisional events across
the country from Vermont to California to Michigan to Alabama,
so we cover the country with the divisional events and
all of those support are the mothership, which is the
Louisville stag Rode Nationals.

Speaker 1 (01:21):
And this event is going to include a whole lot
of really cool cars. I mean me myself, I remember,
you know, thinking back and going, oh man, I just
wish I and to this day wish I could own
sixty seven Mustang Fastback, you know what I mean. So
people will get to see all kinds of great looking cars.

Speaker 2 (01:43):
Yeah, all the cars will be at least thirty years old.
The majority are going to be pre nineteen forty nine,
which is forty eight and over, which is the street
rods which you'll see Muslim cars, hot rods, classic cars,
custom cars. There will be a little bit of everything
there for everybody as far as the cars go.

Speaker 1 (02:03):
And it's a two day event, so it starts off
on Friday and then wraps up on Saturday. But there's
a lot of stuff packed in, as you know, all
the exhibits and music and of course the cars.

Speaker 2 (02:16):
Right the gates. Gates will open at eight o'clock tomorrow
or I'm sorry on Friday, and a commercially exhibitor building manufacturers,
industrivers that will open at nine o'clock and then we
had an automotive swap meet going on. We have safety
inspections going on. We have our spotlight builder, which is
Midwest Rod and Restoration out of Pello, Iowa. We have

(02:38):
the Pinstriper Icons will be pinstriping all kinds of items,
and then they'll have two auctions each day of the event,
and all the proceeds from the auctions will go to
the Humane Society of Quad City.

Speaker 1 (02:49):
I love that. All that's so you're helping a great
cause besides being entertained. A fun family event. This weekend, right, we.

Speaker 2 (02:56):
Do yeah and then and then on Friday night, starting
at seven, we have the night people will play from
seven to ten, so that'll be fun to stay out there,
stay out late and watch them. And then on Saturday,
starting at one, we'll have three day rain. We'll play
from one o'clock to five o'clock, and then we'll have
our Circle of Winters and our awards ceremony and all

(03:17):
that kind of stuff starting at five point thirty on Saturday.

Speaker 1 (03:20):
I love that. Now people, by now the registration to
get your car in is pretty much locked up, but
that doesn't mean people couldn't come out see what's there
how they could compete. Maybe they have a beautiful car
they'd like to get entered, and you'll have information i'm
assuming out there or on your website as to how
they could compete in maybe the next event.

Speaker 2 (03:41):
Yeah. They can actually start today at noon registering your
cars at the Aisle Casino and they can come over
here and get their car register if they haven't already, okay,
and then registration will be open till six o'clock tonight
and tomorrow morning. It starts at nine and goes to

(04:02):
six days Wednesday, Thursday night, I.

Speaker 1 (04:08):
Know, the weekend sipping away right.

Speaker 2 (04:10):
Yeah, and then and then actually all the way up
till Saturday at noon. You can register your car for
the event and you get entered in for the prizes
they give away. We'll give away fifty eight thousand dollars
worth of prizes to car owners while we're here this weekend.

Speaker 1 (04:25):
Wow, now that is impressive right there. Yeah, yeah, Now
I do like this. The Quasities Cruisers are going to
be a part of this, and also the Pontiac Car Club,
the Blackhawk Chapter. So if you have interest in and
I mean this is a time when there are going
to be so many cars. A good thing. You have
it on the fairgrounds. I don't know if you've been
out there yet, correct, but I've got it's big. Yeah,

(04:47):
it's big, and I think you're going to see that
it's going to get filled this weekend.

Speaker 2 (04:51):
Good good, good, good to hear that. Yeah, the weather's
going to be awesome. I was watching the weather this
morning on TV and it looks like it's going to
be an incredible weather force this week and so I
have a big turnout for it.

Speaker 1 (05:01):
Yeah. I was loving when you were talking about the
Pinstripe icons and the auction that's going to be going
along with that. But this one thing I really wanted
to ask you about was the retro futuristic creations. Like
what in the world am I going to walk into?
And I when I look at these.

Speaker 2 (05:20):
Well, you never know. I mean some of the really
custom car builders, you know, some of some of those
folks will show up the bubble tops and that kind
of stuff, and a lot of that's from back in
the fifties, you know, the early fifties customs, which are
really pretty cool to see, you know, especially since they're
still around, you know.

Speaker 1 (05:38):
So wow. So yeah, there's a little something for everyone
here there is, all right, So once again, let's make
sure people know the times out of the Mississippi Valley
Fairgrounds when they can come out to the street Rod Nationals.

Speaker 2 (05:52):
Okay, Friday, it's eight am, the gates open and then
we'll actually be there till ten. But I think you
have to be in the on the grounds by five
o'clock to be able to because they won't stop selling
tickets at five to get in, okay, and then the
band starts at seven. Then on on Saturday, the gates
open at eight am and we'll stop selling tickets at
twelve thirty, but then the awards will start at one o'clock. So,

(06:15):
and you can buy tickets into the event at the
venue or you can pick them up at any Olrode
Auto Parts and adults adult tickets are twenty dollars. Kids
tickets are six, and then under five years old is free.
And then we also have a family pack where you
get two adults and three kids in for forty five dollars.

Speaker 1 (06:34):
And I think it's important too if you need to
find out more. NSRA dashusa dot com great resource for you.

Speaker 2 (06:44):
Right or you can also go to our Facebook page
our facebook page has a lot of information on it
about about all of our events, not just this one,
but about all of our events. You can go back
to look at videos from past events and so those
and all that kind of stuff. So our Facebook page
is really really good.

Speaker 1 (06:59):
Okay, street Rod Association the very first ever Quad Cities
street Rod Nationals. I can't wait. This is going to
be a great time.

Speaker 2 (07:07):
Craig, It's going to be a great time.

Speaker 1 (07:09):
