Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is an exciting week out in Cordoba. Well, almost
every weekend's exciting, but with the World Series of Drag
Racing happening, we are so excited here this morning to
talk to Daniel Wilkerson and Daniel this is I feel
like I can say it's a family affair. More on
that in just a few minutes. But exciting to be
able to come on out to the World Series of
(00:20):
Drag Racing. But also a little pressure, right because it's
not like your dad is just just kind of hanging out.
You're taking over for Would you call him a legend
even though he's your dad, Yeah, I.
Speaker 2 (00:32):
Would say you could definitely say a legend of the
World Series. We've been doing this race for a really
long time. I've been very fortunate to be able to
race against him in it before. But yeah, doing his
big old boots are a little bit different.
Speaker 1 (00:47):
No, wait a minute, here's the thing too. Now, my
father and I we would when he was around, we
would be competitive, but when it came down to some
of the going to win, I would I felt like
I always had to defer to my father. This must
be a completely different story with you guys.
Speaker 2 (01:08):
Oh yeah, for sure. Anytime you put a helmet on,
I don't even who's over there.
Speaker 3 (01:13):
You want to be exactly exactly.
Speaker 1 (01:17):
Okay, So you're currently now your eighth in the Mission
Foods Points Series and we got and you're also your sponsor.
You want to talk about your sponsor a little bit here?
Speaker 2 (01:26):
Yeah, absolutely, So. Last year's skagg Power Equipment came on
with Tim and they did really good last year. I
think they finish They went up six, won a couple
of races and over the winner. The program that they
operate on is it's really kind of cool. It's actually
a little bit different than what most people do. They
(01:49):
have a huge huge influence on h with their dealers
and their distributors. You know, they sell the majority of
their equipment that the public would buy. I would say,
is uh the veertum mors. So we bring out tons
of customers, dealers, distributors to every race to really showcase
(02:10):
not only their equipment, but uh, their involvement in this sport.
And it's it's gotten over the last couple of years.
They've got really involved in It's it shows that the
car is bad ass. I don't know if you guys
got a chance to see our our car we unveiled
last weekend at Brainerd, but it's got a jackle on
it and their jackal piece of equipment is pretty pretty cool.
Speaker 1 (02:34):
Well, what I've always thought about in any kind of racing,
but certainly with UH. With UH, what's happens out of Cordova,
the bond between fans and the racer. It's just it's
amazing that connection and it's and it's really it's a
great thing where it's a it's a big old family
get together when they're heading out to Cordova and the
(02:54):
World Series of Drag Racing.
Speaker 2 (02:56):
Yeah, that is kind of unique to our sport, right.
You get to actually come right up to the ropes,
You get to watch this take the thing apart, you
get the shake hands, it's the driver. The experience is
a lot different in our motorsport as opposed to i'd
say the other top three or four motorsports in our country.
(03:18):
And that really creates that bond and you actually get
to go up and say hid it.
Speaker 1 (03:21):
Well, And I'm thinking about some sports too, just not
even the motorsports part of it, but so many times
you can have a favorite, but they're twenty nine miles
away and you're never gonna You're.
Speaker 3 (03:32):
Never gonna see it or just on your TV and
I'm not gonna.
Speaker 1 (03:35):
See him here, and especially the way Cordova has been
set up forever. It's I feel like the World Series
of Drag Racing, this is its birthplace with things that
happened to Cordova, and there it is. They're gonna be
able to come up, Dan, They're gonna be able to
see you tomorrow night, or they're gonna be able to
see you Saturday. Just come right up and there you
(03:56):
are saying hi to them.
Speaker 2 (03:58):
That's right. We definitely available all day Saturday for pictures, autographs,
handshaked hugs, whatever. We get them all out.
Speaker 3 (04:07):
Well, now talk about how you how your racing career
kind of evolved here, Like when did you get started?
Speaker 2 (04:16):
I started. I was twelve or thirteen. I raced the
Junior directs year which they will be featured there at
the World Series. I actually raced the Junior at the
World Series shoot. That's probably two thousand and two or something.
Speaker 1 (04:31):
Kind of a long time ago, but it started. And
when I mean is some of this like you saw
your dad doing it and you go, Okay, I want
to do this or was it something that you kind
of came a little bit later to doing it, because
I would imagine most of your weekends were probably close
to if not at some sort of a track.
Speaker 2 (04:54):
Yeah, so I remember how old I was, but I
mentioned that Tim. I said, Hey, I think I'm like
to go try out for football, and he said that
sounds and that's great, man.
Speaker 1 (05:05):
Do everyone.
Speaker 2 (05:05):
I'm not going to say you can't go play, but
you probably can't go racing because it'll it overlaps. And
I said, yeah, football doesn't sound that good anyway, So.
Speaker 3 (05:16):
I love that.
Speaker 1 (05:20):
Okay, so we're glad I think you ended up making.
I mean, both are good choices, but I think this
is the best. Yeah, the racing world's glad that you're
a part of it. Solf for people that want to
find out more, maybe, I'm sure you're still going to
end up getting a lot of people that have maybe
even lived close to Cordova and they've heard every time
the World Series, the drag racings around, or any kind
(05:42):
of event that's going on there, but they still don't
know what it's all about. So for some of the
new fans that you're going to win over this weekend,
what can they expect over it to Cordova this weekend
the World.
Speaker 2 (05:52):
Series that Cordova always has an array of cool cars,
so this weekend you can expect everything from junior drags
it's got five horse breaks to our twelve thousand horse
power three hundred miles an hour Mustang. I mean, the
show is awesome. Runs again and I don't ye, I
can't remember if I saw advertise the jet car is
(06:13):
going to be there, but the jet cars often ye there,
there's It's just a heck of a show. And so
if you've never seen a nitro car run, I mean
the ground shakes as I go by the thing at night,
which will run at night, so it showcases planes over
the roof from the goss. That's always cool to see.
(06:35):
And hopefully we can pop up a mind hour run.
Speaker 3 (06:38):
Woo. That does sound cool.
Speaker 2 (06:42):
Yeah, it's it's pretty. It's almost impossible to describe. The
thing goes from zero to three hundred and four seconds
and it pulls five and a half g's. The Sphinx
shuttle pulls three g's.
Speaker 3 (06:52):
I was just going to ask how many g's that
baby would pull on you. That's something that your body
has to be ready for.
Speaker 2 (06:59):
Yeah, it gets your trink.
Speaker 1 (07:03):
Well. For people that are going out again, it's Friday,
this Friday, this Saturday night at Cordova and be able
to come on out and not just see Daniel perform,
but be able to and be able to race, but
also say hi to them, because this is unlike any
other event that you've probably ever been to, and it's
(07:24):
right here in our backyard. So Daniel, continued success, and
thank you for taking some time with us today.
Speaker 2 (07:30):
Absolutely, thank you for having me on so we can
spread the word about a hell of a show this weekend.
Speaker 1 (07:33):
You got it, all right, Daniel, take care of yourself, man,
appreciate it. Maybe we'll see you out there. We know
we're not going to be the only ones, but we'll
hopefully see you out there this weekend.
Speaker 2 (07:42):
Awesome. Can't wait.
