on all local sports from Wright State to the Dayton Flyers,
from the Reds and Buckeyes to the Bengals and Browns.
Called Marty now at nine three seven by three, one six,
one seven zero the press Box on Fox Sports nine

(00:20):
to eighty WNE.

Speaker 2 (00:23):
It's about us.

Speaker 3 (00:23):
We always say that, Actually, William, you know we're playing,
you know, an excellent opponent like we're playing, you know,
it's still about us.

Speaker 2 (00:29):
We want to know our opponent.

Speaker 4 (00:32):
That's Ohio State head coach Ryan Day as the buck
Eyes get ready for their first really stiffest test of
the season when they travel out to face Oregon tomorrow night.
Welcome to the press Box, Fox Sports nine eighty w
go any have Marty Banners. We're glad to have you
with us here on this Friday afternoon, rather shortened edition
of the program as is usually the case on Fridays,
as it is high school Football Friday. We have our

(00:53):
iHeart High School Football Radio Blitz coming for you about
four twenty this afternoon, so we will have that for
you today. And we have some things to get into
as well too, as we roll along Sea Bass in
for Kelly B on Friday, and we're with you again
right up until for twenty Today on the program, we
will hear comments from Ryan Day. We'll hear more from
the Buckeyes head coaches he previews the game on Saturday

(01:15):
night out at Oregon. We will also hear our interview
we did with Dane Sanzenbiker a little bit earlier in
a week. I thought it was a very good conversation
with Dan not or Dane, not not because I was
part of it, but because Sands and Mirker gave some
great answers I think to questions and some good insight
into Ohio State football. So we'll talk to Dane coming
up a little bit later on this hour. Kelly B
will be along even though she not running, not part

(01:36):
of the show today, she will have her for the
ladies segment that'll be a little bit later on this hour,
and we also have our dragons down. But we'll also
look back. What a baseball game yesterday between the Guardians
and the Tigers. I mean, that thing was just tremendous
and postseason baseball just again, under the current format, it
just has an entirely different feel to it. Right now,

(01:59):
every pit which every game is just so intense, and
the Guardians were hanging by a thread yesterday, but David
Fry belted a huge home run to put them ahead.
We'll hear his comments on the home run. We'll also
hear from Tiger's manager Aj Hinch as well too. Now,
if you're not aware, they did mention it during the
Fox Sports at the top of the hour. The Guardians

(02:20):
game tomorrow with the Tigers was initially slated to be
an eighth eight first pitch tomorrow night that progressed the field.
Now it has been moved to one oh eight tomorrow
afternoon because of some concerns about inclement weather in the
Cleveland area. But I mean, I know there were a
lot of Guardians fans who are big baseball fans, who

(02:43):
are also big college football fans, who were just beside
themselves because the Guardians game initially would have started about
the same time that Ohio State and Oregon kickoff tomorrow night,
So I would imagine a lot of folks would have
had two screens up, which seems to be the way
a lot of folks do these things these day, and
just kind of watching both at the same time. But
I know it was a little bit concerning to a

(03:06):
lot of Guardians fans in that regard with ohiost but
you don't have to worry about it. The game has
been moved to one oh eight tomorrow again because of
concerns about Cleveland weather tomorrow, and initially I had not
seen anything in that regard, but apparently there is the
possibility of rain tomorrow night, right about time they would

(03:27):
have had the first pitch at seven o'clock. So probably
a pretty solid move on the part of Major League
Baseball that way, you make sure you get it in
because the Yankees are now waiting in the American League
Championship Series for the winner of this game tomorrow, so
everything can kind of go off on schedules, So probably
a pretty good move right there. And again in the overall,

(03:49):
why not play it in the afternoon anyway, I mean, again,
with everything that's going on this weekend as far as
football is concerned, baseball tens a lot of times to
get lost in the shit shuffle, so probably not probably
worked out for all concerned, certainly for those of you
who are Guardians fans, and as well, as we mentioned,
we'll hear from David Fria, we'll hear from a j

(04:10):
Hanch a little bit later on during the program. Big
night of high school football coming up. There are a
lot of big games throughout the area on this Friday,
and again we'll break them all down for your coming
up during the iHeart Football Radio Blitz, which again will
come your way with Todd Walker at about four to
twenty this afternoon. So we are looking up for that
next hour, so get you ready for week number eight.

(04:31):
High school playoffs are Today's the eleventh, fourteen days away
from the end of the regular season, and the playoffs
will fire up the first Friday in the month of November,
so we're that close to all of that. Some NFL
injury news to update for you. The Cleveland Browns have
ruled out Nick Chubb for this game against Philadelphia, and
I'm telling you what's gonna happen. He's gonna play against

(04:51):
the Bengals. I just know he is. They're gonna roll
him out there on that Sunday for whatever emotional boost
he will give them, especially if they lose on Sunday
in Philadelphia. Yeah, I would think they'll roll with Chubb
out against the Bengals. And if the Bengals win on
Sunday night, and that's not why they'll roll him out.
But I think the getting back would be a big plus.

(05:14):
But that would be to me, that would just be
the way this would work out for the way Cincinnati's
going right now with all the things the Bengals have
been dealing with. Right now, the Browns have until October
the twenty second to activate Chubb to the fifty three
man roster. Now, if they don't do that, then he's
done for the season. He won't be able to play
at all this season. The Brown's also, from an injury standpoint,

(05:34):
will get tight in David and Joku back. He's listed
as questionable right now. Right tackle Jack Konkan will be
active for the first time this season. He's been rehabbing
a severe knee injury easy for me to say, a
severe knee injury that he suffered in Week one of
the twenty twenty three season, and then a hamstring injury
suffered a couple of weeks ago. The Browns have listed

(05:55):
cornerback Denzel Ward, linebackers Jordan Hicks and Marc Mudiabate, and
defense the lineman Maurice Hurst as questionable to play. The
Browns do say those Kevin Stefanski. They will activate rookie
defensive tackle Mike Hall Junior, who served a five game
suspension for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy. The Browns
have ruled out safety's Grant Delpit and Ronnie Hickman, as

(06:17):
well as running back Nahim Hines and offensive lineman James
Hudson and Ethan Posik. Meantime, the news injury wise is
good in Cincinnati. Chase Brown Zach Moss good to go
after suffering injuries in the game against Baltimore last Sunday.
Sheldon Rankins will be back on Sunday night, and that
is exceptionally good news for this Cincinnati defense. Rankins will

(06:39):
be a big plus across that front line to try
and contain whatever run game the Giants have when you
would have to think the Giants are going to rely
a lot more on running the football on Sunday night
rather because Molik neighbors their standout wide out is a
no go in the concussion protocol. So from that standpoint
of having Sheldon Rankins back helps the BEng was in

(07:00):
a lot of areas as far as they their ability
to stop the run and just try to find a
way to get this defense to just play better. They
had a players only meeting earlier in the week, did
the Bengals defense and those things. I think those things
are overrated a lot of times because how many times
do we see these team meetings be held and then

(07:21):
the team comes out and things don't get any better.
A lot of times, it's not about team meetings. It's
about being able to stop people and make plays. And
the Bengals defense just has not been able to do
that this year. And so hopefully that will be something
that maybe it'll pay some dividends, maybe it won't. It's
just at this point of the season right now, I

(07:43):
guess you're going to do anything you can to try
and salvage what's left at one and four. But again,
we ran through this yesterday a little bit. But if
you think about it, what's ahead for Cincinnati and the
same can be said for Cleveland. I think in all
of this right now, there are winnable games ahead, and
Cincinnati enters a stretch. We've said that start of the season.

(08:04):
I mean they I thought, at the very worst their
record would be completely reversed right now. I thought they'd
be four to one right now. That shows you what
I know. But nonetheless, you're going to a stretch of
games where you I mean, they're going to be favored
on I think they are. They are favored on Sunday night,
if that matters too. They'll probably be favored in Cleveland
the following Sunday, and then they get the Raiders back

(08:25):
in Cincinnati, they'll be favored in that game. So, I mean,
there is a distinct possibility. I'm not saying it's going
to happen, but they could find themselves at four and
four after this stretch of games, and if that's if
that happens, then they're they've kind of with the way
the NFL is breaking down right now, there are only
four teams in the league whose records are better than

(08:47):
four and one, so there's a lot out there to
still be determined and still to play through. So from
that standpoint, if they if they can do that, get
back to four four, which again I'm not saying they're
going to in fact, I'd be surprised if they do,
but they at least put themselves in contention to give

(09:10):
them a chance in that final nine games, which they'd
probably have to win at least seven of them to
make the playoffs. I don't know that they can do that,
but at least you would be back in the position
where you could give yourself a chance in that category.
So that's from that standpoint of things. College football. Course,

(09:30):
the big game is Ohio State at Oregon tomorrow night.
In a few minutes, we're gonna hear from Ryan Day
his final press conference before the Buckeye started to wing
their way out towards Autson Stadium in Eugene, Oregon. Ohio
State director by the Nex ross By York talked about
this the other day. Ohio State is spending a little
over two million dollars on travel alone this year because

(09:52):
of the expansion of the Big Ten. Now, Ohio State
really got the easy end of the stick, if you will.
They only have to go to the West Coast once,
and that's the game coming up tomorrow night. If you're
a UCLA, we referenced this a couple of weeks back.
They are traveling over twenty two thousand combined miles this year,

(10:14):
or eighty nine percent of the Earth's circumference in their
travel just to play football this year. Because of this
expansion of the Big Ten, going now a coast to
Coast League. So if you're a high state two million dollars,
that's okay. And believe me, the money's there. They don't

(10:34):
have to worry about not having the dollars to get
that done. The money is there for Ohio State to
make these little johns. But it's again the point though,
is worth bringing up about what they're having to spend
to do it, and it's not. I'm sure they will
try to find ways to reduce that, but I don't

(10:55):
know how they can with the way the league is
set up right now. Because of the expansion and all
the ancillary things you have to do to take a
football team someplace. It's not cheap, as a two million
dollar price tag will tell you, it is not cheap.
Dayton Football Tomorrow the Flyers will be an action home

(11:16):
of the Pioneer Football League. Game they take on Davidson
Tomorrow will kick at noon over to Walcome Stadium. The
Flyers are three and one, The Davids and Wildcats are
ford one. Going into that one, we'll have Miami football.
The RedHawks are playing Eastern Michigan tomorrow. Miami finds itself
the preseason MAC favorites. Chuck Martinstein finds him, finds his
team at one and four right now in the MAC

(11:37):
and one one and four overall and owen one in
the league play, and they'll take on Eastern Michigan tomorrow.
And that Mid American Conference game. I'll be in Mount Pleasant,
Michigan tomorrow with the Ohio football team. The Bobcats will
take on Central Michigan tomorrow, a four o'clock kick up
in Mount Pleasant. A pretty big game for both those teams,
identical records three and two, one and zero and both

(11:58):
coming off of bye week weeks in the Mid American Conference.
So looking forward to that tomorrow and again that one
will have a kick of about four o'clock or so
tomorrow afternoon. There were some high school football games across
the area last night, with the usual Thursday games on
the docket, and again a full slate of games tonight.

(12:23):
There was an NFL game last night. San Francisco beat
Seattle by the final of thirty six to twenty four.
The forty nine ers back to the five hundred market
three and three, the Seahawks fall to the five hundred
mark at three and three. Some football games of note
from yesterday, well, let's see this. We can get these

(12:43):
updated for you. I don't think those are correct. Those
look like they are either JV games or freshman games.
We'll try and get those updated for You'll get you
some scores here before we wrap it up here from again,
just a smattering of games last night, but nonetheless, there
were some games played across the area night, and we'll
see if we can get those updated for you as
well as we continue along here. All right, Three fourteen

(13:05):
is the time we'll take a time out. When we
come back, we will hear from Ohio State head coach
Ryan Day his final press briefing before the Buckeyes hopped
on the charter jet and flew out to the West
Coast to get ready to face the Oregon Ducks tomorrow night.
But it is really one of the two biggest games
in the college football schedule so far this year. It's
right up there with George Alabama and tomorrow night it's
Ohio State Oregon. More of the press box. Great to

(13:27):
have you here this here on this Friday, three fifteen,
Fox Sports nine eighty w OWA name get on the
press box called Marty now at nine to three, seven
by three one six, one seven zero The press box
on Fox Sports nine eighty WN eighty three eighteen the time,

(13:49):
as we roll along with you here on this Friday afternoon.
It is the press box, it is Fox Sports nine
eighty WY I'm Marty man I We're glad you're with
us here this afternoon. Some other NFL injury news, A
Colt quarterback Anthony Richardson is expected to play for the Colts,
with Joe Flacco going to the backup role. Running Back
Jonathan Taylor expected not to play in the game for

(14:10):
the Colts. ABC will get a chance to air at
least a half dozen Monday Night football games. They've been
simulcasting the games on both ESPN and ABC Monday Night's
matchup the Bills and the Jets. The addition of the
six games means that ABC will air seventeen this season,
fourteen simulcast with ESPN, and then three games that will

(14:31):
exclusively air on ABC. Of course, Monday Night football. For years,
that's where you found it on ABC. If you remember
back to Frank Gifford and Dandy, Don Meredith and Howard Cosell.
Those were the housion days of the Monday Night football broadcast.
It was a destination game. It's where you were at
on Monday nights at nine o'clock. That's when the games

(14:52):
used to kick, and you watch those games regardless of
the teams. Jets and Browns were the first Monday Night game,
by the way back. I think it was what nineteen seventy,
I think is the first time it rolled out. Now
the game, and I think because of the fact that
there are so many other games, the Sunday night game,
I think really has kind of become bigger than the

(15:13):
Monday night game. I think in a lot of respects
from a TV standpoint, Monday Night football still has its place. Obviously.
They average almost eighteen million viewers per game across the
platforms ESPN, ESPN two I think that's the Manning Brothers simulcast,

(15:34):
and on ABC it's a twenty nine percent increase over
twenty twenty two. The best audience so far has been
last season's Super Bowl rematch between Philadelphia and Kansas City,
which averaged about twenty nine million viewers. So, but yeah,
I think the Sunday night games have kind of become
the bigger of the two. Everybody who's a football fan

(15:55):
will watch, I think, but it just seems like the
Sunday Night game just has a little more of the
old Monday night oomph to it. Maybe it's because it's
on ESPN. Now, I don't know if that matters or not,
but it it just kind of feels that way, and
they make a major production out of it too, obviously
it's has that same feel. Is that the one that

(16:16):
I think that's the one to carry Underwood does the
open for the Sunday Night game so on on NBC
with Mike Tariko, who I think does a spectacular job,
and Chris Collinsworth as the play by play and the
color crew. So but yeah, so anyway, those games are
going sliblecast between ABC and ESPN. All right, Tomorrow night
it will be Ohio State and Oregon the games. That

(16:38):
game is on NBC Tomorrow night and we'll kick right
around seven thirty Yesterday after the Buckeyes practice, before they
loaded up the buses and he headed to the airport
to get out in the charter fly to Oregon. A
high stated coach Ryan Day took about five minutes to
update the media on how the Buckeyees final day of
Columbus preparation went before they go out to face the
Oregon Ducks.

Speaker 3 (16:58):
I don't know, you know, the ball comes out, so
I think it's probably more you know, catching a leftier
getting a snap, you know when I left the quarterback.
But yeah, he's been over there and doing a great job.
And yeah, we had a good day of practice there.

Speaker 2 (17:13):
Bill Landis Kings of the North, Ryan, are you guys
using air on scout? And so he left handed quarterback
on every team can actually right? But how helpful has
that been to actually.

Speaker 3 (17:23):
Have a left I don't know, you know, the ball
comes out, so I think it's probably more you know,
catching a leftier getting a snap, you know when I
left the quarterback. But yeah, he's been over there and
doing a great job. And you know he he's got
a great arm and he's also really athletics, so that
that part's good and he but you know, so yeah,
he's he's been over there getting work and be doing

(17:43):
a good job for US.

Speaker 2 (17:44):
Spencer Overroup, Letterman rope, Ryan, your tackle has been really
good this year.

Speaker 3 (17:48):
He's probably the biggest challenge, Jim, what if you say
it makes you think that they're really ready.

Speaker 2 (17:53):
For this challenge?

Speaker 3 (17:54):
What we see every game in practice, and like you said,
it is a big challenge, a big challenge for all
of us, which is a great you know, looking forward
to it, and preparation has been has been good, and
so we'll keep working at it. But uh but yeah,
you know, the biggest challenge to day and yeah, that's
that's what these guys are working towards.

Speaker 2 (18:11):
Austin Warren's podcast, Ryan, what is the offensivest when Carnell's
not out there? Well, Carnell is certainly very very talented.

Speaker 3 (18:21):
But to me again, you know, he's he's very intelligent,
He works really hard, he's a really good blocker.

Speaker 2 (18:26):
When the ball is in his hands, he does a
great job.

Speaker 3 (18:28):
But he's a very good route runner, good downfield, good
underneath right after catch has been excellent. So you know,
first off, it's the production. Second thing, it's it's you know,
is his leadership. He's a leader, even for a young player,
and so.

Speaker 2 (18:43):
It's great to have him back.

Speaker 5 (18:45):
Tim Maye, Uh, Tim may Yeah, Ryan, Uh, what does
it do for granted in is to make that catch
for today slam stuff?

Speaker 6 (18:54):
And just where does that, I guess move him up
in the pecking order in terms of your mind and you.

Speaker 3 (18:59):
Can can yeah it it's confidence and you know, how
do you build confidence. You do it, and every day
is an opportunity to build confidence in the coaches and
your teammates and then yourself. And I think when you
make a play like that in a conference game, it
does all three of those things. So it's great to
see him make that play. But when when you see
him do it in practice every day, you know, no
one was surprised when he made that catch. And you

(19:21):
know he's very, very competitive and tough, and so you know,
it's good to have him in there.

Speaker 2 (19:26):
Good to have another guy that we can count on.

Speaker 7 (19:28):
Tony Gertman and Buckeye huddle right out.

Speaker 2 (19:30):
In practice has done these last two days.

Speaker 3 (19:32):
Yeah, good, good spirited. You know, guys, you know, it's
about us. We always say that. So even you know,
when you know we're playing, you know, an excellent opponent
like we're playing, you know, it's still about us. We
want to know our opponent as well, but it's about
the standard we set. And we've had good, you know,
two good days right here, and guys have been guys

(19:54):
have been edgy, which is what you want, and coaches
have been edgy, and so that's good.

Speaker 2 (19:59):
We're gonna get back on the film here, figure out
what corrections we.

Speaker 3 (20:01):
Need to make and where we need to enhance the
things we did well, and and keep grinding and keep
preparing as you know, handingto Saturday.

Speaker 2 (20:08):
Bill Ravnwitz, Columbus. Can you say edge? What do you
mean by edge to me?

Speaker 4 (20:13):
Apendi or friction?

Speaker 2 (20:16):
I mean, what do you what do you mean by age? Yeah?

Speaker 3 (20:18):
I just think you know, this game means a lot
to all of us, and we want to know. Everybody
wants to be right. So you know you're gonna have
everybody's best, and you know we're going to be competitive,
and we're going to grind in practice, and that's why
it should be nothing about practice should be casual at all. So, uh,
there's been a lot of purpose and and you know,
good competitiveness and and guys pushing.

Speaker 2 (20:37):
Each other, which is what you want.

Speaker 8 (20:39):
Cameron t.

Speaker 2 (20:39):
Robinson, the athletic.

Speaker 9 (20:40):
Ryan just fired talking on the office and wanted to
change his body be more athletic.

Speaker 2 (20:46):
How much have you fos seen that feel how much
you feel like that's helped him this year? Oh?

Speaker 3 (20:51):
Yeah, it's it's it's something that we all knew going
into this. This offseason needs to get done and you know,
and and you're seeing some improvements for sure, and and
but it's you know, it's all of us. You know,
we're all continually working to get better.

Speaker 2 (21:05):
And and so as we know, we got a big
challenge this week.

Speaker 3 (21:07):
And but we're seeing him improve again because he's practicing well.
And so I know I sound like a broken record,
but it's just true, you know. I mean, how you
practice every day is how you're going to get better.
It's just the way that football works. And and he's
doing that. And he gets to go against Jack and
JT every day as a parometer to see where he's at.

Speaker 2 (21:25):
So we'll need to play well this this game and
find a question step on christ Nick Cleveland dot com.

Speaker 10 (21:31):
What'd you think of the way Rice and Rodgers played
and kind of the the increase snaps that he got Outsider.

Speaker 3 (21:36):
Yeah, I thought to catch the first down catch early
in the game. To make a play like that contested
early in the game is a good sign.

Speaker 2 (21:42):
Yeah, because.

Speaker 3 (21:45):
You know, usually the progression for a young player is
they make a catch, you know, later in the game
when they're comfortable or you know, when they're open. That
was a contested, tech contested catch early in the game
when a third down that you know we needed to
keep the drive going.

Speaker 2 (21:59):
So that was encouraging.

Speaker 3 (22:01):
I think again, build the confidence that you will throwing
the ball, but also builds confidence and a.

Speaker 2 (22:07):
Coach to know we can put them in the game
in builds confidence of yourself.

Speaker 5 (22:10):
Great coach.

Speaker 4 (22:11):
Thank you very much for Ryan Day addressing the media
with some very excited players behind him. That was the noise.
You heard that laughter as they were walking off the
practice field. Yesterday, Oregon comes in at five and oh,
they've beaten Idaho Boise State. They had to hang on
to do that, thirty seven, thirty four. They ran past
Oregon State in the annual Civil War rivalry game forty

(22:33):
nine to fourteen, hammered a very bad UCLA team thirty
four to thirteen, and then last week beat an average
Michigan State team thirty one to ten. So as much
as you can say Ohio State really hasn't been tested
in a certainly in a road atmosphere, there's no question there,
I think it's also very fair to say that Oregon
really hasn't been tested yet. Yeah. I know they played

(22:54):
close games, but they will not have played the type
of talent they're going to see tomorrow night, and I
think that will be the difference. I think Ohio State
is going to win the game tomorrow night. I think
they're going to do it somewhat handily. Quite frankly, I
just think they're that much better than Oregon right now.
And I don't know, there's no one else in the
Big Ten that's Ohio State's level. Indiana's out of the

(23:16):
gate at six and oh but I think that's not
fooling anybody. Great for the Hoosiers, also a good start,
but six and six and o Indiana is not a
five in o Ohio State right now. And you look
at their schedule. They've beaten FIU, Western Illinois, UCLA, Charlotte, Maryland,
and Northwestern. So there, I guess reality will hit. They

(23:40):
go to Nebraska after a bye week, then or they
host Nebraska, then they host Washington, then they go to
Michigan State. Then to close it out, they go to
they play host to Michigan, they come to Columbus to
play Ohio State, and then they host Purdue. So Indiana's
not going to run the table. I don't think that's
a concern in any stretch of the imagination. But at

(24:01):
the same back to Ohio State in Oregon, I just
I don't think it's any question of High State's class
team in the Big Ten, and it might be I
say Ohio State will win it by double digits. I
think it would be one of those. It will play
itself out, maybe similar to the Michigan State game where
the buck Eyes kind of struggled with Sparty early and
then just decided they'd had enough and hit the gear

(24:24):
and that was it. I think that's probably what will
happen tomorrow night at Austin Stadium. The difference for Ohio
State tomorrow night will simply be the fact that that
will be an atmosphere where a lot of these guys
haven't stepped on to certainly haven't stepped on into this year.
But it will be loud, it will be raucous. That
place can be very hard to go into and win.

(24:44):
But I just think Ohio State, if you're going to
base it strictly on talent alone, well, I don't think
there's any question of High State's head and shoulders better
than Oregon, and I think that will show itself tomorrow night.
I think the buck guys will win the game going
away tomorrow night. I would not say, let's put it this,
I'll be more surprised if they don't win it by
double digits than if they do win it by double digits.

(25:06):
I think that's probably be a pretty fair way looking
at it. All right. Three thirty is a time when
we come back. We had a chance to spend some
time the O of the day with former Ohio state
wide out Dane Sanzenbiker. Now does some TV and radio
work in the Columbus area, as seemingly every x Ohigo
state football player does. We had a good conversation with Dane,
and we're gonna bring that to you his thoughts on
all nil. He was on the Tattoo Gaate team which

(25:28):
had its season vacated the twenty ten campaign. We asked
him about that and just Buckeye football in general. Dane Sanzenbiker.
When we come back, three thirty the time, this is
the press box. Great to have you with us on
Fox Sports nine eighty w ol name.

Speaker 1 (25:46):
Get on the press box called Marty now at nine
to three seven buy three one six, one seven zero
the press box on Fox Sports nine eighty wn em and.

Speaker 4 (25:58):
We're back with you here in the press Box, Fox
Sports nine eighty w and Am Marty Banners. Great to
have with us here on this Friday afternoon. And it's
sounds like a little bit of a mess out there
where that accident location Johnny Hill was talking about. We'll
keep you updated on that. Johnny'll be back a little
bit later on with another traffic update for you. But
it sounds like gott to find a way around that
out there on the on the west side or the

(26:20):
east side of town rather in that area around where
Johnny mentioned on six to seventy five, So keep that
in the back of your mind. You're otten about as well too,
all right, three thirty four. As a time earlier in
the week, we spent some time with former Ohio State
wide out Dane Sanzenbaker really enjoyed the conversation with Dane.
I think I mentioned this before. We brought Dane on
back when I was doing sidelines on the Ohio State

(26:41):
Football Radio network. He was always kind of our go
to guy postgame press conference. Wise, always gave great upfront answers,
would not hide from any questions you asked him. And
you appreciate that from if you're doing the job that
I had to do and that others in the media
had to do, but Dane has partlaid that into a
nice career. Afterwards, we spent time with Dane Sansbacher, got

(27:01):
his thoughts on Ohio State football and where life is
for Dane Sansenbacher In twenty twenty four.

Speaker 11 (27:07):
Jerney, I was done my last three cents.

Speaker 4 (27:09):
Well, we're glad, aren't we?

Speaker 12 (27:11):
Daane?

Speaker 4 (27:12):
Am I correcting that?

Speaker 11 (27:14):
Marty?

Speaker 4 (27:14):
How'd you know that? Did you Google? No? I did
not No, I did not no.

Speaker 6 (27:19):
I Yeah, we are.

Speaker 11 (27:20):
We're closing it on thirty six for me coming up
on Sunday.

Speaker 4 (27:23):
I think it is Wow.

Speaker 8 (27:24):
Thirty cents.

Speaker 4 (27:25):
Well, we're glad you're with us and spending some time
with us here this after and I wait a chance
to catch up. A couple of weeks back, we were
talking a little high school football. What's life after football
been like for you? Dan? What has kept you busy?

Speaker 11 (27:37):
Oh, it's been a journey.

Speaker 13 (27:38):
I was done.

Speaker 11 (27:39):
My last year was twenty fourteen with the Bengals. Actually
went right into media after that. I was working in
Toledo at at WTOL, the CBS affiliate, So did a
couple of years of TV there. My wife's work brought
me back to central Ohio, worked in the banking industry

(28:00):
for a little bit and UH and made the switch
actually most recently to UH getting back into the media
world and and also working down here with some of
my former teammates at one of their businesses. So it's
been a it's been a journey, but it's taken me
back to Columbus, which which I've loved absolutely.

Speaker 4 (28:20):
When you look at the Ohio State program now, Dane
as compared to when when when you played, of course
you played for Jim Tressel and on some very good
Ohio State football teams. When you look at this team now,
how good is this team? I know you've had a
chance to kind of watch them from close and from afar,
but what you see right now, how good is this
football team?

Speaker 11 (28:39):
It's been said obviously throughout this entire season, in preseason,
and it's it's been justified. How talented this team is.
I mean, I think the difference, you know, would be
looking at like what a really good Columbus high school
team would be verse. I don't know, one of the

(29:03):
one of those prep academies that basically has an all
star team of kids from all over the place. I mean,
I think this team is that they've brought in the
best talent from across the country and really across the board.
I mean, they're just loaded at many, many positions. And
it took him a couple of weeks, it seemed like

(29:24):
to really get gelling. But I think at this point
they're on the same page and they're they're putting that
talent together on the field and they're they're going to
be a handful for everybody this year and in Oregon.

Speaker 4 (29:36):
This week absolutely, Dan Samsbocker visiting was fromer Ohio State
wide Receiver now doing some broadcasting work in the Columbus
area among other things. As you heard, were glad Dane's
been able to spend some time with us here this afternoon.
Let's talk about the wide receiver position at Ohio State.
Of course, that's what you played. But now it's almost
as if Brian Hartline, who I know you know very well,

(29:57):
the job that he has done with the recruit aspect
of that, it has really taken it to a different level.
Right now when you watch that, what's your reaction to
seeing the kind of talent that they bring in out
of that wide receiver spot.

Speaker 11 (30:11):
Ye, it's a year year and year out right. Over
the past few years of having having the top top
five star guys, it's become a kind of a staple
of that program. He's done an outstanding job, which isn't surprising.
I mean, he was always kind of a detail oriented guy,
always had that coaching gene. You know, some guys have

(30:32):
it and you can see it early. It's been a
heck of a recruiter. And yeah, year after year you
have guys that you know would be starters at a
lot of other teams in the country having to wait
their turn at Ohio State until until they can be
the guy. And then you have guys like Jeremiah Smith
that come in year one and are the guy. So,

(30:54):
I mean, it's the talent you're seeing. It's it's rare
to have this happen year after year at any program. Really,
Ohio States a little bit spoiled in that wide receiver
room right now.

Speaker 4 (31:06):
Well, yeah, I think there's any question about that. When
you see a guy like a Jeremiah Smith do the
things that he is doing right now, has has a
wide receiver position. I don't know if he's a fair
question or not. For you, but it is has it
but I'm gonna ask it anyway. Has the has the
wide receiver position changed? Certainly it has an Ohio State
because in your day obviously did throw the ball around,

(31:30):
but now it's it's a vital part of what they do.
Has a position changed, it.

Speaker 11 (31:34):
Has part of it spend. The philosophy has changed in
the Ohio State offense. Obviously there's been different coaches with that,
different coordinators, and there's definitely more of an emphasis on
the passing game now again they're playing that. You can
afford to have that emphasis when you have the talents

(31:55):
that they have, and I think the talent is just
at a different level. I mean, I you know, I
played with a lot of good players. There was a
lot of talent that came through. But but year after
year having first round draft picks at the position is
just not It's not that normal. So I think at
some point after a few years, of course, you're going

(32:16):
to make that it staple of your offense is throwing
the ball when you have the playmakers around to do it. So, yeah,
the you know, the offense has changed a little bit.
They still want to establish a round but it's definitely
changed since since I was there, and the players have changed,
I think from I think it's a changed in the

(32:37):
culture of college football too, because we've seen multiple, you know,
freshman wide receivers across the country this year having an
impact that you just didn't see ten years ago. I
don't know if that's the training, the emphasis in high school,
what it may be, but I think we're in kind
of a new a new world of college football because
I feel like every week I'm saying, you know, and

(33:00):
Jeremiah Smith make some of these catches, or was it
Ryan Williams down in Alabama make some of these plays.
I'm just saying, I don't know what I'm looking at here,
because that does not look like a freshman. So it's
a strange and exciting world right now in the world
of college football, especially at the wide receiver positions.

Speaker 4 (33:19):
It is also, dane a strange and exciting world in
college football off the field now with nil with the
transfer portal and things along those lines, and that is
certainly the biggest thing I think that's changed. I mean,
we can talk about realignment till we're blue in the face.
What a mess that is right now in that regard.
But from that standpoint, let's talk about that for a moment,

(33:41):
because you were part of a team that I mean,
we know that was the tattoo Gates stuff, if that's
the right term to use back during that time. That
what these players are doing now, they're able to make
money off the field now, and you know that and
with what they're doing. What's your reaction to that now
when you see that, is it do you understand where

(34:02):
the players are at right now? Is that, Hey, if
you can do it, go get it right now.

Speaker 11 (34:06):
It's to be honest, Marty, it is. It's hard to
It's a little hard to comprehend. And that is in
putting it into perspective of the college football that I
played in. It is very on one. On that aspect,
it is very very different the the player end of it,

(34:28):
you know, going from being a you know, it was
just kind of assumed you were kind of like a
college student. You were you were you were going to
struggle with the same kind of things most college students
do to turn into kind of like a semi pro
and you can make the money. You know, I've almost
had to separate it to kind of stick to the
football side. Because that side is so strange to me

(34:51):
and still so uncharted. I mean, I think, you know,
obviously we're watching it play out in real time as
the NCAA and big hen in the SEC and all
in these universities figure out what the heck they're doing
with it. I mean, it's it's a it's a crazy
thing to watch and is a little hard to digest.
So honestly, I try to keep my focus on the

(35:14):
x's and o's and what games are coming up in
the matchups, because it's like, if you go too down
far down that rabbit hole, you know, college football starts
to look a little unrecognizable.

Speaker 4 (35:24):
Are you Are you bitter at all? No?

Speaker 11 (35:30):
I don't think so on that end. I mean, I
think this was a long time coming. I think that
you know, this could have been handed. The only way
this was hand would be handled differently is if you know,
thirty years ago, when when those big TV deals start
to get made, the NCAA and the powers that be
don't decide to tighten down and go the route of, hey,

(35:52):
this is how we're going to do it, and we're
going to altra and force this amateurism, and we are
going to you know, like there's probably a world where
you could have loosened it a little bit over time
and you didn't have to do this all at once,
big change. So I think it's in the right place now.
It's just figuring it out. But I don't feel I
don't really feel bitter about it. It's just different, and

(36:15):
I don't know how well I would have fared in
a world like this, you know, I don't know if
I would have been even an Ohio State guy. Yeah,
we just talked about that receiver room. I was not
a five star player. I don't know in a world
of endorsements, nil like big basically, you know, a big
money sport where I fall would fall in that. So

(36:40):
I almost feel like, you know, I caught Ohio State
at a time when this was you know, we had
a ton of kids from Ohio. You could you were
in a world where you could a coach could take
chance on you, like coach Tressell took a chance on me. Right,
You don't take many chances flyers on three star guys anymore.
So if I were to be bitter, there's another side
of that coin that also say, well, you were lucky

(37:01):
to have it when you did because it gave you
an opportunity to be part of this program and get
a chance that otherwise you might not have gotten.

Speaker 4 (37:09):
Absolutely, Dan Samslbarker visiting with US former Buckeyes wide out
and again doing broadcasting work in the Columbus area. Now,
as he mentioned among other things as well too, you
were on a very good football team. I mean, all
the teams you were on were very good obviously at
Ohio State. That twenty ten team, though it kind of
holds some thoughts with fans because the season was vacated.

(37:31):
I'm not telling anything obviously, you don't know. I mean, heck,
I was there on the sidelines. I was there. I
saw how good that team was. Do you look back
at that team and go, man, what if? I mean,
because that was a very good football team, that twenty
ten team.

Speaker 11 (37:45):
Yeah, we were a very talented team, you know, and
I think we were you know, and those were anymore
we would have gotten a chance in the playoffs, right,
But it just was we lost it in an inopportune time.
I think we only lost one game that year, right,
correc But I'm pretty sure it was you know, put
we we lost at Wisconsin, right, And I don't think

(38:07):
there was another one so that that put us put
us in the Sugar Bowl in twenty ten. But yeah,
we were a really talented bunch and among the among the.

Speaker 1 (38:16):
Top that year.

Speaker 11 (38:20):
You know, I don't I don't know, I didn't. I
don't really see it as any kind of Yeah, I
guess the winds got vacated. It got messy at the end.
I was already kind of gone by that time. I
mean by the time Sugar Bowl was over, it was
you know, I was in combine training and the news
of Trust being fired didn't come out for another couple

(38:40):
of months, right, So you know, it got messier in hindsight,
but it was a weird time. But also looking back
on it now, it's you know, it also seems just
kind of ridiculous the the lengths that you know, the
story that I guess it turned into over what we're
talking about, you know, like we're not talking about any

(39:02):
real advantage on the field. It was you know, guys
that that clearly were doing something they shouldn't have been,
you know, so like whatever came down on.

Speaker 6 (39:11):
Them, those were the rules at the time.

Speaker 11 (39:13):
And that is what it is. But yeah, I don't
I don't know. Maybe I've put blinders on, but I
don't look back at it in any other kind of
way than we had a really good season. We were
probably were I think we were a championship caliber but
lost when we shouldn't have and and ended strong with
a good Sugar bowlin. I mean, I that's just that's

(39:34):
that's how I see it. I don't really look back
on it with too many, too many asterisks.

Speaker 4 (39:40):
Dames Anthembaker, former Ohio state wide receiver visiting with us,
really enjoyed that conversation. We thought you'd like to have
a chance to sample it again in case you might
have missed it when we had him on with us,
and he was very as you heard, very upfront and
point blank about it. Hey, I don't, I don't hold
any bitterness, although I think it would be hard to
because as he said and when I asked him, that

(40:02):
was a pretty darn good football team. I mean, that
one was very capable of certainly if there were a
playoff then it would have made a deep run into
that playoff. That team finished twelve and one, won the
Sugar Bowl, beat a good Arkansas team in the Sugar Bowl,
and just that one loss at Wisconsin on October the
sixteenth of twenty ten. That was all it stood between

(40:24):
them and running the table. It would have been very
interesting to see what would have happened had they not
have lost that Wisconsin game and ran the table and
won the national championship. With everything that happened afterwards, with
the tattoo gate and all the other things, that team
would have had a national championship stripped away from it.
Of course, hypotheticals or a great conversation, I think, but

(40:46):
is what it is. Right three forty eighth the time,
As we continue along here four of the ladies with

Welcome back to for the ladies where we died into
women's sports both local and abroad. In the WNBA, the
finals are set. The Brianna Stewart Sabrina Ionescu led New
York Liberty will be taking on Nafisa Collier's Minnesota Lynx.
This is actually a repeat of the Commissioner's Cup Final

(41:44):
that happened in June. The Lynx won that one. The
new team in San Francisco, the Golden State Valkyrie's, named
Natalie Nicasse as the first head coach for the franchise.
Nicasse is a former assistant coach of the Las Vegas
Aces and won two championships with the franchise, and before that,
she coached with the Los Angeles Clippers and their G

(42:07):
League affiliate. She played at UCLA and actually just recently
had her jersey retired and professionally overseas, so very excited
for what that franchise will bring to the league next season.
The Chicago skuy are looking for the light after firing
first time head coach Teresa Witherspoon after her inaugural season

(42:28):
with the team. They were vague they being management and
the front office on the reasoning for moving on from Witherspoon,
but many players, including Angel Reese, spoke out in support
of their former coach. The team, however, insists that their
relationship with Reese is in a good place despite her
outpouring for Witherspoon on social media. In the NWSL, the

(42:55):
Orlando Pride went undefeated for the first time ever to
win the first ever Shield Trophy, which is given to
the team with the best regular season record. Undefeated in
soccer is not easy. USC's Juju Watkins just in the
most lucrative Nike Nil shoe deal in women's sports history,

(43:17):
and to top it all off, she's also signed with
Gatorade Money. Locally, the Ohio State women's basketball team was
ranked third in the Big Ten in the Coach's preseason poll,
and junior Cody McMahon was also named to the preseason
All Big Ten Team.

Speaker 4 (43:36):
That's all this week.

Speaker 14 (43:37):
See you next time for for the ladies on the
press box on Fox Sports nine eighty W.

Speaker 2 (43:42):
O n E. You should.

Speaker 1 (44:04):
Get on the press box called Marty now at nine

Speaker 4 (44:17):
I'm back with you with about five minutes ago our
number one on the program again. We're with you only
till about four to twenty. Today we have the iHeart
Football Radio Blitz coming your way right about four to twenty,
getting you ready for week number eight of the high
school football season all across the state of Ohio. Todd Walker,
the host, and producer of that program, So looking forward
to that again. Coming up your way again at about
four twenty here today, some other NFL injury news update,

(44:40):
and this pertains to the Browns game in Philadelphia on Sunday.
The Eagles have announced that everybody who has practiced today
is eligible and ready to go. That includes wide receivers
AJ Brown and Devonte Smith, plus offensive tackle Lane Johnson.
All are off the Eagles injury report and all will
play now Sunday when the Browns go to Philliladelphia. That game,

(45:01):
to me is very interesting, number one, because of everything
that the Brons are dealing with right now. To take
Deshaun Watson into that atmosphere in Philadelphia, where what's the
old line about Philadelphia fans they booed Santa Claus during
a parade at one time. I mean, that's going to
be a very difficult environment. I'm still not two shooters.

(45:24):
How good the Eagles are. I think it's a winnable
game for Cleveland on Sunday, And that may sound odd
to say because just how bad they have been to
this point, but I think that's a game they can win.
And when your season is hanging by whatever thread, it's
hanging by right now. If you are Cleveland and you
know that there is some potential help on the way.

(45:45):
If Nick Chubb is good to go and they do
activate him, that's going to be a big advantage of
big Plus if he is anywhere close to what he
was last year, you know, your running game does get
a little bit of a boost there. You're starting to
get some of those off lineman back. Jack Conklin's going
to play on Sunday, so David and Jokho's back at

(46:06):
the tight end spot, so Watson has another target to
try to get the football too. If they can just
figure out what this offense is supposed to be. And
maybe a lot of that has to do with the
fact that they just haven't had a healthy Nick Chubb,
haven't had a healthy David and Joku just haven't been
healthy at a lot of spots, and maybe once all
those pieces fall in place, maybe they can get back

(46:28):
to what they were last year. Browns fans are notorious
for their pessimism, and I get it. I do well.
I see where you're coming from with this, but maybe
I'm just not looking at it the right way. I'm
just and please understand, I would love to see them
go one in seventeen. As you're a one in sixteen
not win another game, I think I'd be fantastic being

(46:49):
a Bengals fans what you like. But at the same time,
I still think a football team that does have talent.
There was a comment made a couple of weeks back,
can you have great talent and still be a bad
football team? And I think that's pretty accurate. I think
that's what the Browns are. They've got a lot of talent.
They're just a bad team right now. Doesn't mean they're
going to stay a bad team. But as I mentioned,

(47:11):
with the Buckeyes at Oregon on Saturday, where I'd be
more surprised if Ohio State doesn't win it by double
digits than if they do, I would put the Browns
in the category I'd be more surprised if they don't
win than if they do win. On Sunday, I think
that's a very winnable game for them. I hope the
Steelers lose to the Raiders, and I want Kelly's Commanders
to beat the Ravens, and certainly want the Bengals to

(47:33):
win in New York on Sunday night. That brings everybody
to do it to within a game of one another
in the AFC North, So of course it won't end
up that way. All the things I want to have
and won't and it would just be a mass leak.
Recap it on Monday, all right, next hour coming up,
we'll hear from some of the important participants in the
America League Division Series Championship, the deciding Game five, which

(47:55):
comes up tomorrow in Cleveland and Progressive Fields. First, Betcho,
by the way, he has been moved to one o'clock tomorrow.

program for you today. With you all for about another
ten minutes or so before we get to you through
the Iheartfootball Radio Blitz on Fridays, as we always like
to do, give you an update on everything that's going

(49:14):
on as far as high school football across the state
of Ohio is concerned. We will hear comments coming up
in a couple of moments from David Fry and aj
Hinch David Fry the Guardians and aj Hinch, the manager
of the Tigers as they get ready for Game number
five of the American League Division Series, which is tomorrow
in Cleveland. And again the first pitch has been moved
up to oneh eight tomorrow because of the forecast in

(49:35):
the Cleveland Airy tomorrow which is calling for rain right
around time they would have thrown the first pitch about
seven to thirty eight o'clock tomorrow night, So that's up
for tomorrow. We'll hear from those individuals coming up in
just a couple of moments. I'm old enough to remember this,
and I remember watching it this date. In nineteen seventy five,
Saturday Night Live premiered on NBC the first time the

(49:58):
show debuted. Yeah, was its first show, The not Ready
They weren't called the not Ready for Primetime Players then
they were just cast members at that point. Jane Curtin,
Garrett Morris, Lorraine Newman, Gilda Radner, Dan Ackroyd, John Belushi,
Chevy Chase. An actor named George Coe was part of
the group because NBC felt these young kids needed some

(50:21):
sort of stability, some sort of adult guidance, if you will.
He was a part of the cast, and a writer
slash actor named Michael o'donahue. That was the original cast
the first show. The musical guests were Janis Ian and
Billy Preston on that first show, and the host was

(50:42):
George Carlin, who the comedian George Carlin, who later said
he was as coked up as he had ever been
when he was on stage for the first Saturday Night
Live show, and he also talked about how there was
a big argument leading up to the show the debut.
This is also the one where Andy Kaufman did the

(51:03):
mighty Mouse thing. If you're familiar with that, go to YouTube,
call it up. It was just a phenomenal bit there
that Andy Kaufman did, which really kind of rocketed him
into stardom on that show. But George Carlin, they wanted
Carlin to wear a coat and tie, and he was
very anti establishment at that time, so he refused to

(51:24):
do it. He agreed to wear a sport coat over
top of a T shirt and jeans, which I think
kind of kicked off a fashion trend because you see
that now everywhere. I mean a lot of people wear
a sport coat over top of T shirt and jeans.
But Carlin, he simply refused to wear a coat and tie,
and because they would go against his his anti establishment

(51:45):
feel that he had. But yeah, it was this date
nineteen seventy five, and I remember watching it and just
when the show ended, just kind of going what the
heck was that? I mean, it was funny. There were
some parts, you know. Also on the first show, the
Muppets were a part of the of the original Saturday

(52:06):
Life Jim Henson's Muppets for about three or four weeks.
The great comedian Albert Brooks was one of the writers
for the show and they kept wanting him to write
bits for the Muppets, and his response was, I don't
write for felt, So the Muppets just drifted away. A
lot of people forget that that's where the Bees came from.

(52:28):
The Killer Bees came from. If you remember those those
segments of those characters with a Belushi and Acroid will
addressed up in those bee costumes. That kind of an
offshoot of their despise of the way they despise the Muppets. So, yeah,
it's a Saturday Night Live this date in nineteen seventy five.
And I love the line where people these days will

(52:48):
say things like, ah, I never watched it anymore, it's
not funny. Well then, how do you know, Well, I
still watch it every now and then. It's it's hilarious
still I find his funny. Yeah, it's it's I mean,
we watch it. We my wife and I like to
watch it. We mainly kind of watch Weekend Update. We
think that's probably the best part of the show with

(53:08):
Colin Jos and Michael ja right now. There are some
other The cold opens are always very good. They've always
been kind of the trendsetter when it comes to political humor.
They nail those this James Austin Johnson. Yes, the bet
Donald Trump impression of any I mean, we kind of
thought of Alec Baldwin had that nailed, but this guy
just blows him away. I mean, he has everything about

(53:31):
him down to a t and it's just really, really hysterical.
So but and the Jim Gaffig and Tim Wall's impression
is fantastic, and the Dana Carvey Joe Biden, those are
tremendous that I remember watching that for the first time
and I'm just like, what, Yeah, he crushed it. He
just absolutely crushed it. So but the show fifty years,

(53:53):
it's in its fiftieth year now, and I think a
lot of people after the original cast left and they
brought in this other cast of people who almost destroyed
the show. But it's often forgotten that in that next
cast that came in there was a little bit player
who got a couple of scenes per show, guy by
the name of Eddie Murphy, who, yeah, kind of has

(54:16):
had a pretty good career since then. Kind and he's
credited with saving the show a lot of times because
it was about to be tossed into the trash can
of TV oblivion. Because it was so bad after the
original cast left. But Eddie Murphy was the big find
in that all right fifty years ago today, though satur

(54:37):
Net Life premiers all right. Yesterday in Detroit, what a
baseball game. The Cleveland Guardians, their season hanging on every pitch,
rallied after the Tigers had taken the lead. David Fry
to run. Homer gave the Guardians the lead that they
would not relinquish. They tacked on the lead, attacked onto
the lead with a safety squeeze late in the game.

(54:57):
Just a heck of a call by manager Stephen. After
the game, David probably talked about hitting that two run
go ahead.

Speaker 9 (55:04):
Homer dreamed about it as a kid and think about
it all the time and in the off season and
when you're working on stuff, and then it happens and
it goes by real quick. I remember looking at the
dugout and high five and Sandy and then just blackout
and then you're in the dugout cheering with the boys.

Speaker 8 (55:20):
Yeah, it was a lot of fun.

Speaker 9 (55:22):
I was just trying to get a pitch to hit
and luckily kind of fought off some pitches with two
strikes and was able to barrel something up A vote
kind of came up to me and was like, hey,
how confident are you in getting a bunt down? And
I told him i went a very good hitter in
high school, so I'm pretty confident. I had to pun
a lot and he goes, all right, just keep an
eye on Rugi for signs. And then right before I
went up, and he said, go ahead and do it

(55:43):
first pitch, and luckily got the run.

Speaker 8 (55:45):
At hoses obviously our leader, and.

Speaker 9 (55:48):
I don't want to take all the credit, but I
did tell Hog before he came up that he was
going to hit a homer that at bat, So I
will take all the credit now, but Hosey's the man,
and he kind of got us going. And to see
him kind of he's not the most emotional guy, but
see him get fired up. After that homer kind of
got the boys going. And then it's getting the ball
to Class A. I mean, he's done it all year,
Our whole bullpen's done it all year, and they pick
us up. And he was awesome, Even bigger than anything else.

(56:11):
Was just boys backs against the wall, got a must
win game and able to get our team to lead,
and obviously with our bullpen we feel really good once
we get the leading. Just a really fun moment. I mean,
Kwan gets it going, and he's been so good this series,
and he's been on base feels like all the time,
and had a couple of chances yesterday to drive him

(56:31):
in and didn't get it done. So it felt really
good getting it done.

Speaker 4 (56:33):
To Deck David Fry of the Cleveland Guardians, a mammoth
a day yesterday for that young man, as you heard
him say, the way things played themselves out for the
Guardians having to win to stay alive in the series.
It snapped an eleven game Cleveland losing streak in elimination
games in the postseason, so that they will have a
chance to win the series. Tomorrow. They win the series,

(56:54):
they get the New York Yankees in the American League
Championship Series. Meantime, on the other side of the field
and out of the Detroit Tigers that I got. Manager A. J.
Hinch afterwards talked about losing that game and getting ready
for Game five tomorrow and Cleveland.

Speaker 5 (57:06):
I mean, everything's on the table, I mean obviously, and
everything's on the line. You know, when you play a
team in at game five or Game seven, depend on
the series. It's very obvious that everything matters, and and
you know, you factor in playing playing each other the
way we have with bullpens getting exhausted, and you know, lineups,

(57:29):
you know, almost virtually every position player being utilized. I
don't see why tomorrow would be any different now in
factor in it's a division opponent where we're even more
familiar with them. Something unpredictable will happen tomorrow.

Speaker 8 (57:44):
I don't know what that is.

Speaker 5 (57:45):
But baseball is incredible this time of year when you
have games like this and and opportunities to be great. Yeah,
I mean, Carrie was seen by the doctors last night.
He's gonna be seen by the doctors again today. We're
gonna we're going to take as much time as we
can to see what he can't can and can't handle.

(58:06):
And it's obvious what he's dealing with, and we're gonna,
you know, we're gonna hope for the best as we
move forward, because he's he's important to our team, he's
important to our lineup. I don't know right now as
I sit here what that's going to be. And we'll
make a game time decision when we when we when
we have to and if I had like ninety nine
till one hundred in my hip pocket, I'd be hyped

(58:29):
to face anybody at any time in any setting. But
I you know, I think I think you're the guys
that can handle it competitively, range and emotions. There's no
one way to conquer this.

Speaker 3 (58:42):
You know.

Speaker 5 (58:42):
Guys that are that are cool and calm and and
low key, they're going to be that way. Guys that
are amped up, you know, are are going to be
you know, you know, incredibly excited about about the opportunity
and what one thing that we're gonna We're going to
be ourselves like you're gonna see, you know, guys be themselves.
Jacob pop off and have a joke. Terek will give

(59:05):
an out burst on a scream, on a big out,
and anybody that does something positive is going to be
pretty pretty excited about their contribution to hopefully a win.

Speaker 4 (59:15):
Aj Hinch, manager of the Detroit Tigers. Game five tomorrow
in Cleveland, and again the first pitch is set for
one eight in the American League Division Series tonight, the
deciding Game five and the Dodgers Pod Raise series out
in Los Angeles. That one will start a little bit
after nine o'clock tonight, so deciding game five in that series,
and the winners of these games. If it's the Dodgers,

(59:37):
then they get the Mets. If it's the Podrays, they
get the Mets. Both. Whoever wins the game tonight will
host the Mets next week in the opening round of
the Nation League Championship Series. The Guardians or Tigers, whoever
wins the game tonight goes to Yankee Stadium to start
the American League, or whoever wins tomorrow rather goes to
Yankee Stadium in New York to open up the Championship

(59:58):
Series in the American League. So there you have it.
It's gonna be a lot of fun. Those the siding
games are just always a truckload of fun and it
should be a wild atmosphere tomorrow afternoon in Cleveland. Again,
the game time has been moved from eight o'clock Tomorrow
night to one o'clock tomorrow in Cleveland because of the
weather forecast in the Cleveland area. So high school football

The Beercats surprised Allan East last week twenty three to twenty,
while the tre It's routed Delphus Jefferson fifty six. Zip
Alan East is at Jefferson tonight, and the MAC top

ranked undefeated Marion Local is at Anna. Nice win for
the Rockets last week over versales, this week it's a

sixty two. Now Thing Coldwater is rated number two in

the best game of the MAC is five and two

The Napoleon Wildcats are battling in the Cardinal Division of
the NLL. They'll be on the road at Clay who's
the league leader at two and zero. Napoleon comes in
without a league win, but four and three overall checking
the nwoal. The top matchup is Patrick Henry of five

(01:06:46):
and two on the road at Delda six and one.
Both are chasing Liberty Center for the top spot. For
Patrick Henry, it's a balanced attack mostly led by rushing
and Delda's almost exclusively on the ground. Two young teas
teams colliding at Delda. The Evergreen Vikings are four and
three heading toward a road trip to Liberty Center, who
had a tough time last week. With Patrick Henry facing

(01:07:09):
the seven and O Tigers. Somebody's going to get a
win with Brian on the road, it's Swanton. Both are
O for the season and was On will be on

The GMC's top matchup will feature Edgerton at Fairview. Both

possible home playoff earth and both are chasing to Noora

(01:07:31):
for the league lead. In the GMC, Tonora is the
lone unbeaten. Edgerton and Fairview each have one loss. The
losers out of the race and the winner will stay
alive for another week. Speaking of Tonora, the Rams are
four and oh and have reeled off four straight wins.
They're home with Ayersville, their arch rival across the Maumee River,
Antwerp and Wayne Trace making an all Paulding County affair

(01:07:54):
and Paulding is trying to get back on track after
a five and oh start. They're now five and two
heading toward Hicksville. The Defiance Bulldogs have won five in
a row, taking on the Bath Wildcats, who also have
five wins. Defiance is trying to lock up a home

games could get it done. In the Northern Lakes League,

(01:08:16):
gun beating Anthony, Wayne will battle Springfield. Perrysburg coming off
a loss, will be at Finley, and Whitmer is home
with Northview. That's what we've got in northwest Ohio. Let's

Both teams are one on one in the Western Reserve Conference.
In the Chagrin Valley Chagrin Division six and one, Gatesville

(01:08:50):
Hawkin is at five and two Pepperpike Orange. Hawkin comes
in atop the league at two and oh. Orange has
a one on one record. Another matchup in the Chagrin
Division has six to one Perry two and oh in
the conference, playing four and three Painsville Riverside, who has
one to one in the conference. In the Valley Division
of the Chagrin Valley Conference, five and two Chagrin Falls
travels to seven oh Kirkland. This game is for first

(01:09:11):
place in the Valley Division as both teams come in
at two and oh. The Northeast eight has four and
three Gerard playing at five and two Poland. Gerard is
number eight and Poland is number nine. In Division five
Region seventeen, the Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference Scarlett Tier has
the top two teams playing with five and two Springfield

Speaker 13 (01:10:44):
We are rolling along here on the Friday Night Blitz.
My name is Todd Walker. Thanks for joining us as
we continue to look around the state. We now head
over to the Mansfield and Ashland area and bring in
Aaron Hines.

Speaker 4 (01:10:56):
Thanks Tod.

Speaker 16 (01:10:57):
It's hard to believe just two weeks from in the
high school football regular season. After tonight's action, four teams
here in the Ashland Mansfield area Richland County remain unbeaten,
entering again tonight's week number eight. We'll talk about them
first our broadcast game on WMA in as the Shallby Whippets,
who are state ranked overall seven to zero, visiting Mid

(01:11:18):
Ohio Athletic Conference rival clear Fork, where the Colts are
coming off a one point win thanks to a blocked
extra point a week ago against Marion Harding. Their defense
a large just four yards rushing. They're two and five
on the year. Shall Be four to oh in league play.
Whip Its quarterback Bradon to Vito racked up seven touchdowns
and last week's fifty five to twenty one win over
River Valley, Ontario, just like shall Be seven and zero

(01:11:40):
overall four and oh in the MOAC, they're state ranked.
The Warriors hosting Marion Harding tonight after beating Pleasant a
week Aldo on the road thirty five to fourteen. Ontario
quarterback bought to Miller, taling over four hundred and forty
yards last Friday four touchdowns, throwing for better than two
seventy and running for nearly one seventy. The Ashland Arrows
are now seven to and oh following a running clock

(01:12:02):
win last Friday thirty five to three over Mansfield. Senior
quarterback Nathan Bernhard for the Arrows had a hand in
all five Ashland touchdowns. He threw for three, ran for two,
and on the night rush for two hundred and fourteen yards,
including an eighty eight yard scamper Ashland, who's three and
oh in the Ohio Cardinal Conference along with Lexington, the
only two unbeaten teams in league play. Ashland traveling to

(01:12:25):
four and three West Homes this evening. Speaking of lex
they've won four in a row after last Friday's nineteen
thirteen win over West Homes. Quarterback Joe Cardill has been
incredible on both sides of the football. Lex Big road
game tonight they're at New Philadelphia. Both are four and
three and Hillsdale in Division seven. The Falcons unbeaten seven

(01:12:45):
and oh State ranked. They're home this evening for one
and six Northwestern And that's a look at high school
football tonight in the Mansfield, Ashland area. Now let's send
you to Jaron Cox down in Chillicothe.

Speaker 7 (01:12:57):
Week eight in Southeast Ohio has plenty of games with
league championship implications and rivalries. First, in the Frontier Athletic Conference,
it's six and one Miami Trace traveling to five and
two Jackson. The Chillicotha Cavaliers are still looking for their
first win of the season as they travel to one
and six Greenfield Maclan and three and four Hillsboro travels

(01:13:19):
to one and six Washington Courthouse. In the Mid State League,
it's five and two Logan Elm at four and three
of mand Clear Creek and three and four Fairfield Union
at three and four Circleville. In the Site of Valley Conference,
it's a big time county rivalry game as six and
one Uniota travels to four and three Zane Trace, with

(01:13:41):
both teams still undefeated in the league. Six and one
Paint Valley, fresh off their first loss of the season,
travels to two and five Huntington. Four and three Piketon
travels to one and six Southeastern and two and five
West Fall travels to.

Speaker 8 (01:13:56):
Three and four Edena.

Speaker 7 (01:13:58):
In the Tri Valley comp Difference, it's five and two
Welston traveling to the undefeated seven and oh Athens Bulldogs.
Two and five Vinton County travels to oh and seven
River Valley, and three and four Alexander travels to Nelsonville, York,
who sports a five and two record. In the Southern
Ohio Conference, it's three and four Wheelersburg at five and

(01:14:21):
two Waverley four and three Northwest at five and two
Porchmouth West. In the Ohio Valley Conference, it's six and
one rock Hill traveling to five and two Portmouth and
also in the OVC, maybe the game of the year
is six and one Ironton at the undefeated Fairland Dragons.

(01:14:43):
Now we'll check on Central Ohio with Todd Bell.

Speaker 17 (01:14:45):
Things are starting to get tight now. Just east of
two seventy in Central Ohio is the Licking County League,
and the top two teams in the Buckeye Division will
battle this week. Grandville is seven and oh and has
had a great compliment of offensive and defensive football. The
Blue Aces are averaging forty two points per game, on
offense while giving up just one touchdown per game and
a pair of shutouts. First year head coach Heath Hinton

(01:15:07):
squad will put an unbeaten record on the line against
the dean of coaches in Central Ohio, Randy Boffman and
the Panthers of Licking Valley. The only blemish on their
six to one record is a week two overtime loss
to West Muskingham, and since then they've outscored their opponents
one sixty seven to forty three. Grandville has won three
straight in this series, and the winner will have a

(01:15:28):
firm grip of the conference with just two weeks remaining.
A couple of weeks back, Grove City was the lone
remaining unbeaten in Region two. In Division one, they were
clipped and a three point loss to New Albany. The
Dogs rebounded with a convincing thirty five nothing win over
Westernville Central last week. The next two weeks will help
decide the Ohio division of the OCC starting this week

(01:15:49):
with a battle with ultra talented Pickerington North. Now, the
Panthers were shut out by defending D one state champs
Saint Ed's in Week one, but have been on a
tear since winning six straight, including wins the last three
weeks one forty seven to fourteen. A great running back
matchup here it pits Picked North's Michael Taylor, who is
rushed for nearly nine hundred yards and thirteen touchdowns and

(01:16:09):
Aiden McKinstry of GC, who has fourteen touchdowns at eight
hundred and twenty five yards. And there was some head
scratching around Pick Central when they started one and two.
Now their heads are high after four straight wins and
the only unbeaten in the OCC Buckeye Division. Their next
two will help decide if they remain that way, starting
this week with a home game against rival Groveport Madison.

(01:16:30):
The Cruisers have been on a roller coaster ride this season,
with a big win over Gehanna and a tough loss
two weeks ago against Tayes Valley. At two and two
in the conference, Groveport will be looking to play the
role of spoiler. Let's chick in with Marty Banister in
Southwest Ohio for their top matchups as we look at.

Speaker 4 (01:16:46):
The Southwest Region will start in the Cincinnati area. In
the East Cincinnati Conference, two top five ranked teams share
the league of six and o marks a week away
from their showdown. On week nine, Winton Woods, number two
in the state and Division one host Claremont Anderson number
three in the state, and Division two visits Walnut Hills.
The Greater Miami Conference features a three way tie for first.
Lakota West, Lakota East, and Princeton all sit at five

(01:17:06):
and one. West goes to Oak Hills, East host Sycamore,
and Princeton entertains Fairfield. Mulder clinch the GCL South title
last week with a forty two to fourteen win over Elder.
The Division one third rank Crusaders play at Cleveland. Saint Ignatius,
Wyoming and Indian Hill share the Cincinnati Hills League lead
each of four and oh heading the week eight matchups.
First place is up for grabs in the Southwest Ohio

(01:17:27):
Conference as the co leaders meet Talawanda goes to Harrison.
In the Cincinnati Metro Athletic Conference, Schroeder sits atop the
Blue Division. They visit Cincinnati College Prep. Red Division leader
Aiken plays host to second place with Row. In the
Southern Bucke Athletic Conference, Batavia and Clinton Massie owned a
share of the American Division lead, but Tavia visits New Richmond,
while Clinton, MASSI travels to Western Brown. The National Division

(01:17:48):
lead is a first place tie as well Williamsburg and
Bethel Tater two and oh Williamsburg hosts the East Clinton
while Bethel Tate welcomes in Blanchester. Moving on pinter State
seventy five to the Greater Dayton area, we will start
in the Greater Western Ohio Conference, where there is a
four way tie for the lead. All four teams at
three and one. Two of those meet as Springboro goes
to Fairmint in the Miami Valley League. State ranked teams

(01:18:08):
are the division leaders in the Miami Division seven and

We're turning the corner here on Friday night Blitz about
to head down the backstretch, but still a lot to
get to. We'll check in in detail on all the
biggest games in each region of the state when you
come back the Friday night Blitz continues on iHeartRadio.

Speaker 1 (01:21:35):
The Countdown to Kickoff continues with the Friday Night Blitz.
Here's Todd Walker.

Speaker 13 (01:21:40):
Welcome back in to the Friday Night Blitz, week number eight.
Time to drill down to some of the more important
games around the state. Here in the linemoun in West
central Ohio area. Tonight, Wapakanetta is at Elida. The Redskins
are seven and oh and everybody has them penciled in
to win the Western Buckeye League outright and run the
table and then make a deep playoff front. But coach

(01:22:01):
Travis Moyer knows that his team needs to take it
week by a week, especially tonight Eddie Laida, a team
that just two weeks ago upset Salina.

Speaker 10 (01:22:09):
If we continue to take care of business each and
every Friday, that we'll have that opportunity and you know,
hopefully things work out for us. But obviously that's out
of our control right now, and the only thing that
we can do is take care of our business tonight
and play exceptionally well and compete at a high level
and find a way to be successful.

Speaker 13 (01:22:27):
Let's go north a little bit into the northwest part
of the state with Dave Kleack.

Speaker 15 (01:22:31):
We've got two different conferences in the spotlight tonight. First
stop the Green Meadows Conference where the battle is on
for second place.

Speaker 4 (01:22:38):
Right now.

Speaker 15 (01:22:38):
In the GMC, Edgerton is at Fairview, both at five
and two. The Bulldogs of Edgerton love the ground attack.
Fairview can really put it up through the air. Something's
got to give in this matchup as each is trying
to chase Toenora down for the GMC tunnel. And in
the NWOAL, Matt Young Delda team at six and one
will face the Patrick Henry. Patrick's Patrick Henry coming off

(01:23:01):
a loss to Liberty Center, but their defense played well,
holding the Tigers to only twenty one points. At five
and two, Patrick Henry at Delda. The winner stays in
the league chase of the NWOAL. From w Wendy h
and Napoleon, I'm Dave Klek, good.

Speaker 13 (01:23:17):
Stuff, Dave, thank you. We head east now to the
Mansfield in Ashland area. We check in with Aaron Hines
and we check in on an undefeated team in action tonight.

Speaker 16 (01:23:26):
The Shelby Weppets are seven and zero on the season.
A big reason why the player their starred junior quarterback
Brandon DeVito. Rob Mahaney says DeVito can make all the throws,
even those tough ones on the move.

Speaker 20 (01:23:37):
You know, he works extremely hard, you know what I mean?
And he has improved his game every single year. And
if there's someone working harder than him, you know, I
wouldn't believe it because I know how much time and
effort he puts into improving what he does and being
a teammate and helping receivers. You know what's crazy is
I can't remember Aaron when he was a freshman and
he was able to throw on the run. Noway, I
mean like he's just naturally getted athlete in quarterback. I've

(01:24:00):
never coached anybody that can throw the ball as well
as the run. And you know, I've had the privilege
of coaching some really good high school quarterbacks, but what
he can do on the move and on the run
is really special.

Speaker 16 (01:24:11):
De Vito on the season thirty touchdowns more than twenty
five hundred total yards last year is a sophomore. He
counted for fifty touchdowns Shelby tonight on the road at
conference rival Clear Fork.

Speaker 8 (01:24:22):
Well some guardy numbers there. Thanks Aaron.

Speaker 13 (01:24:24):
We continue to matriculate to the east and we check
you in with Bob Gavalier.

Speaker 12 (01:24:30):
In our thirteen ninety am iHeart Game of the Week.
We have a Northeast eight matchup as seven to zero
south Range from Mahoney County travels to one and six
Niles from Trumbull County. South Range with a win, will
clinch at least a tie for the Northeast eight Conference.
South Range also comes in winning thirty four consecutive Northeast
Dight games, their last loss in twenty nineteen denials thirty

(01:24:52):
five to thirty four in overtime. You can catch Jim
Evans on the call by downloading the iHeart app to
your electronic device and typing in thirty Youngstown, Oh.

Speaker 13 (01:25:02):
Yeah, hit them up on that iHeartRadio app. Now we
go down to Southeast Ohio and check in on a
big game there with Jaron Cox.

Speaker 7 (01:25:10):
Zane Trace versus Unyoda. Two teams with different styles of football,
but each team with the same goal. The last two
years these teams met, the winner of this game has
won the Siota Valley Conference Gold Football. This year, the
winner will have the inside track to it again. Both
teams are as healthy as can be and both have

(01:25:30):
star studded rosters. Gunner mccollo, Bryce the freight Train, Johnson,
Silas Stewart, Hudson Williams and Aiden Dunn lead the way
for Zane Trace. Isaac Coy, Cody Brayden, Blake Coops, Caden Cuttwright,
and Jackson Zikafous for un Yoda. Un Yoda wants to
get the ball out in space to its athletes and

(01:25:51):
hit multiple big plays on Zane TRACE's turf. Zane Trace
wants to grind it out on offense and make un
Yoda have ten to fifteen play drives to score. Both
teams have above average field goal kickers, penalties, hidden yards, turnovers,
and big plays will decide who wins this SVC rivalry
game and gets the upper hand in the league's standings.

Speaker 13 (01:26:12):
All right, Jared, we moved from Southeast Ohio to Central
Ohiohan We get the story there from Todd Bell.

Speaker 17 (01:26:19):
If you're a regular to this show, you've heard me
say the Ohio Capitol Conference Central is incredibly deep. In
a matchup of two of the three unbeatens, Upper Arlington
rally down twenty one to seven to defeat Olan Tangi
Liberty in one of our key games last week by
a final of thirty one to twenty eight that was
at home. This week, they had to owen Tangy and
take on the Orange Pioneers, now the only other Central

(01:26:41):
Division unbeaten before last week. Orange ran a gauntlet of
games against three opponents who combine now for a fifteen
and six record, so you'll excuse their seven point win
over Dublin Koffman last week. Both of these teams sit
in the top three of the standings in Region three
and the winner just might be the champs of the
OCC Central.

Speaker 13 (01:27:00):
Thanks for that report, TV, and yeah, just a lot
of good football teams all over the state. Thanks to
all of our guys for filing their reports here on
the Friday Night Blitz, we'll take a break, come back
with our final segment for week number eight. We will
visit again with Jared Loganbill he's with the Ohio Prep
Red Zone, and tonight we're going to focus on the juniors,

(01:27:20):
the class of twenty six, if you will, the top
juniors in the state of Ohio according to Ohio Prep
Red Zone. That's coming up next as we roll on
with the Friday Night Blitz on iHeartRadio.

Speaker 1 (01:27:32):
Back to the Friday Night Blitz from iHeartRadio. Here's your host,
Todd Walker.

Speaker 13 (01:27:39):
Final segment for the Friday Night Blitz for week number eight.
Todd Walker Here, time to welcome back Jared Loganviill from
Ohio Prep Red Zone to the program. This time around,
we're going to talk about the top juniors in the
state of Ohio. Jared, let's start with Lakota West and
you've got a linebacker here at your number five.

Speaker 11 (01:27:55):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (01:27:56):
So, Kem Thomas is an extremely talented outsideline bag. He
probably goes around sixty to two hundred ten pounds. I
would say Kim is a He really has the ability
to get to the passer. We'll be able to affect
quarterbacks at the next level and get a pass rushes
where it's at. He has that ability. He can also

(01:28:17):
play in the run game, has the ability to get
into the flat mirror running backs in the passing game
and do a lot of different things. But his explosiveness
and his athleticism, his ability to change direction and really
put pressure on bigger offensive tackles to really stay with
him is kind of where it's at, and so I

(01:28:38):
think I think he'll end up being an outside linebacker
slash edge more so than than somebody who's going to
grow into a defensive line position. But really a fun
prospect and one that is really just starting to bloom.

Speaker 13 (01:28:52):
All right, Jared, we're going to stay on defense for
your number four junior in the state, Toledo Central Catholics
of Victor Singleton.

Speaker 6 (01:28:59):
Yeah, Victor as a freshman last year was a starter
on the Irish defense. Long, athletic kid. He's about six
foot still a little light, only one hundred and sixty
pounds right now. That's not any concern for me, but
just really athletic. He's very one of the words that
a scouts like to use, his twitchy. It's basically really

(01:29:20):
short space explosive ability. Victor has that ability to to
you know, mirror receivers at the line of scrimmage, and
like Ace, he has the ability to play that bump
and run. Strength is you. As he gets stronger, he'll
he'll get better at that. But his ability to turn
fluid hips, his ability to turn and run in his

(01:29:41):
long speed are kind of what set him apart again
from other defensive backs without length and length and his
ability to to really break on plays when it's an
underneath play is high level.

Speaker 13 (01:29:55):
Jared, as we get to your number three and number
two juniors that they're both offensive linemen from northeast Ohio.

Speaker 8 (01:30:01):
Let's go through these two guys.

Speaker 6 (01:30:03):
Yeah, well, Conroy is alignment from from Saint Ignacious High School.
He's an interior alignment who's goes sixty three two hundred
and seventy five pounds and and because of his length
is really why why he's projected on the inside of
the line. But don't let you know anybody fool you.
He's just as crucial and important as your offensive tack

(01:30:26):
walks are. At the next level. He's going to be
a bully basically on your interior line. You have the
athleticism to move to get to the second level, to
to pull around the outside. You know, he's going to
be able to be really an excellent player both in
the run game and then in the past game too.
He's going to have the ability to mirror your more

(01:30:47):
athletic inside pass rushers and has that strength to anchor
down and really take on your bigger defensive pass rushers
on the interiors. So he's he's really a versatile into
your offense of lineman. He's actually worked with La Charles,
then former Ohio State interior offensive lineman who also played

(01:31:07):
an ignacious back in his high school career. So fun
to see that tradition. And you know, Mantleby passed down
from from Charles to William will and he's really has
a bright future at the next level and he liked,
you know, many of the arts we talked about, many
power for offers already to this level as a junior,

(01:31:28):
and many more I expect to come.

Speaker 8 (01:31:31):
And then number two is also in northeast Ohio, right.

Speaker 6 (01:31:35):
Yes, Max Riley from Avon Lake High School mex really
first onto the scene as a sophomore six ' five
last year, I want to say he was around two
hundred and seventy. I'm gonna guess he's more like to
eighty to eighty five now. Really athletic, really good bend.
And one of the things that we look for in

(01:31:56):
early offensive tackles is your length first and your ability
to bend, because your high level defensive pass rushes at
the D one level now both possess length and athleticism.
Your pass rushers that that you know are going to
play at in Ohio State and Michigan a USC you
know or for the most part are going to be

(01:32:16):
at least six four or sixty five and in that
length and that ability to counter that arm length is huge.
So so Max possesses that length to play that edge
and try to slow down that pass rush. He also
has a great feet and so that ability to kick
step and get great depth quickly in that arm length

(01:32:37):
and the ability to anchor anchor and slow down that
speed rush is crucial. It's getting looks at Ohio State,
UH many other schools, so a lot of Buckeye fans
out there are hoping Max Riley will will make his
commitment at some point in the Ohio State Buckeyes.

Speaker 8 (01:32:53):
And prep red zone. Ohio's number one junior is.

Speaker 6 (01:32:57):
Albert Hill from Akron Hobins. Albert really burst on to
the scene as a freshman five ten I'm gonna get
one hundred and seventy five pounds or so. Really athletic,
much like Victor. Really athletic guy who can turn and run,
has his speed to really run vertical with even the

(01:33:20):
fastest receivers, probably a legit four to four guy, if
not low four or five guy in the forty and
that was really what kind of set him off. Initially
was his speed. You know, when you can go in
and run one of low four five high four fours
at the high school level, you're going to catch attention
right away. And not only has he been able to

(01:33:42):
do that, he's put together a good solid film on
the football field and ability to mirror in those, like
I said, shorter routes, to break on balls on those
shorter routes. And so he's one that is going to
be a playmaker at the next level. Can really and
have the awareness to make plays on the ball and

(01:34:04):
turn opposing teams over. And so when you can create
interceptions and runs after interception yards or even create points
from the defensive side of the ball, you're going to
make some defensive coordinator out of Power five school really happy.

Speaker 13 (01:34:20):
That's Jared Loganville with Prep RedZone, Ohio talking about the
top ranked juniors in the state here in twenty twenty four.

Speaker 8 (01:34:26):
Jared, we appreciate you taking.

Speaker 6 (01:34:28):
Time for us, appreciate you having me on Todd.

Speaker 13 (01:34:31):
And that's a wrap four a week, number eight of
the Friday Night Blitz. My name is Todd Walker. We're
about to head off to the stadium to get you
ready for your game. Don't forget to join us back
here next week for the Friday Night Blitz on iHeartRadio.

Speaker 1 (01:34:44):
Thanks for listening to those Friday Night Blitz from iHeartRadio.
