(00:04):
All right, brief fans, let'sget right back into the racing guns.
Let's rock with our number one topgun. Here's the Rhino Roofing dirt track
king himself. That's my job,That's what I do. Brandon Gruba on
the racing guts. We are gonnaturn up the fire. Oh yeah,

(00:28):
we are with the twenty twenty twoTop Gun champion. I'll tell you what.
It's been a while since we hadBrandon on. Uh, Brandon,
You've had a lot going on sincewe had you on the show last and
we figured we'd have you back onagain. You know, I'm Steve,
got Lisa, and I got BigAllen on the other line over there.
So how have you been, Brandonman? We've been busy, been a

(00:48):
lot going on in the group ballworld, and we did make you.
I was wondering if he was gonnasay anything about the intro. Okay,
So you partnered up with Russian Noyceroof Thing, actually Rhino Roofing, and
Rest Noise is the owner of RhinoRoofing. You partnered up with him at
one of our events, and we'regonna have another one coming up in the
twenty sixth of August at Daytona's DavidBusters and that's where you came out.

(01:11):
You were a faithful guy. Youcame out to so many of those I
don't know how many way end thefive of them as we do them every
year. And Brandon's always there atleast five. Yeah, Brendan's always there
with the race car, with thehot ride with his wife over there,
and and Ashley, you guys arealways over there with the merchandise and everything.
And you broke you broke out witha brand new line of merchandise,

(01:34):
right, yes, sir. Actually, me and Russ partnered up with the
race team to expand to like thenext level of a sprint car racing.
And we've also partnered up with adirt garage year which is going to it's
it's merchandise stuff. Right now,I'm the only driver that's in it,
but we're gonna try to expand itthrough and try to you know, break
into the Southeast market or you knowsprint car drivers and stuff like that.

(02:00):
You know, try to get ourour friends and family and competitors, you
know, get their name out thereto try to help, you know,
fund some of their racing because it'suh it's definitely expensive. Yeah, definitely.
And you know what, we cameup with a whole new batch of
shirts for that that show coming up, Big Al, Big Out. I
got you a double X. Isthat well that fits you this time?

(02:20):
Yeah, I'm I'm I'm slim downenough. He slimmed down. He's a
long shirt. I don't need thoseChinese short ones. Yeah, you don't
need a wide shirt. You needa long shirt, right Big Paul Taulau
to go to Men's Big and Talland get one that's narrow and long for
Big Al. So we'll have todo that. But uh, all you
guys that want to race heat notshirt, we're gonna be out of the

(02:43):
David Busters, like I said onthe twenty sixth of Weldest and uh,
Brenda can't make it. You knowthat least Brendan cannot make this show.
Busy man, you know why isbusy? I go ahead and still be
spilled the beans. Brendan. Uhmy wife is actually thirty six weeks pregnant,
so about relation that so happens,we'll have a well we'll probably just

(03:06):
be hitting out of the hospital. So it's kind of hard to commit to
something that we don't know what ourfuture is going to hold. That is
so cool. You know one thingis going to hold another newborn. That's
right, that's right, another memberof the family of the brew the You
gotta you gotta a future tire changeror a future driver. Well, he's

(03:27):
already he's the only time will tell. Did you have a reveal? What
a revel? A reveal? Yeah? So let you know what sex it
is, Steve, If you didn'tknow, I thought it was a rebuild.
I was still thinking about like Corvette. Okay, Braden, his name's
gonna be Braiden. It's a boy, right, yes, sir. Well,
congratulations to you and Ashley. Youguys are great people, and uh

(03:49):
we love seeing you when you comeout to our big events. Ryno,
ruff is a big part of yourdeal. It's all over your hot,
right, and you're paying this thingor maybe you had it wrap it.
It looks really hot. You gotto now, right, Yeah? Yeah,
So we still have the top guncar. That's where I met Russ
with the Rhino roofing product that hesells. We met him out of one
of y'all shows, and for thelast four years he's kind of just been

(04:11):
a sponsor. He's kind of helpedpush me through. And unfortunately this past
year my dad passed away, andDad and Russ had a lot of conversations
on what you know, Dad wishedthat, you know, I wish I
could do, and how to moveon and he's what he thought I could
be competitive on. And when allthat went on, I had a couple

(04:32):
of rides that kind of fell throughon trying to push me to that next
step, and Russ said, what'she gonna take? And he stepped up
and he's actually been involved going racingwith me, hands on, washing the
car, going to these two dayshows out in South Carolina. He's been
to Talladega this year. I meanwe went to We've been to buck Show.
Our last weekend out was Buckshaw andEast Alabama, where we were running

(04:56):
second and hit a rut and causedus to get upside down and tear it
up. Oh we fixed Yeah,we fixed it for the next night and
ended up running out. We're thefastest car on the track, but ended
up second. I was a littlelittle gunshot on doing anything too risky after
tearing it up the night before. So, uh, it's it's been.
Uh, it's been a tough yearfor us. We've tore some stuff up,
heard a motor or two, butwe finally have getting a little bit

(05:20):
of steam. Just unfortunately, wethink out of our last eleven races that
we planned on running, we've onlybeen able to run too. That's crazy.
That's like nine out of the lasteleven races have been rained out.
That's crazy. Yeah, you know, the rain is really something that's ump
happening right now, and Rhino roofis a big part of that rain problem.
If you guys have as yeah itis there. There are a way

(05:46):
to fix a problem. If youhave rain coming through your roof. Let's
just say you got a problem withyour roof. Lead Yeah, you'll never
know if you have a league unlessyou let Rhino take a peek. Hey,
so, just like Big Al said, they're part of the solution.
So if you guys have a problemwith your roof, guys get a hold

(06:06):
of running roofing at four oh sevenseven four three six zero six eight.
That's one thing that Brendan Gruba, that twenty twenty two top gun sprint car
champion, hasn't in. I haverust in my corner. And if you
have russ in your corner. You'llbe taken care of. Now. You
know what's so cool is he's anex racer himself, so he's been there

(06:29):
and done that. You know,Russ. Russ a great guy and he'll
take care of you. It actuallyhas if you're a first responder or a
veteran. Uh you know military andfirst responders discounts. Also Rhino shampoof you
have on them, Tyl rousing youto get your roof Doune. Don't get
some crazy guy just gotta sign onthe side of the road says hey,
I'll take care of you all Rhinoshampoo or rhyner gutters. You don't want

(06:49):
some some some guy doesn't know anythingabout roofers, putting your proofing, put
on your gutters for you or sevenfour I mean seven four three six zero
six eight four zero seven seven threesix zero six zero Rhino Roofing dot com.
And like I said, you won'tknow you have a leak until you
let Rhino take a peek. That'sreally good to have. Brandon on and

(07:11):
Brandon, where are you going next? I hear you're going to Volusia County
right, Yeah, we'll be We'regonna We're aiming for Volucia next weekend.
That'll kind of be our our last, our last trip. We're not allowed
to travel out of town anymore withbeing after thirty six weeks. Right,
Volusia is an hour and a halffrom the house, so that'll be the
last race that is scheduled. Youknow, sprint cars don't race every single

(07:33):
week here in the South. That'skind of the problem. We've had a
few weekends where weather is beautiful, but there was no racing going on,
and then as soon as sprint carracing hits the schedule, it seems like
mother nature thirds it down on us. So we got this race next weekend
with the top gun sprints. That'llbe in my car and it's still got
rhino roofing all over it and it'sRuss's right there in Russ's backyard. After

(07:54):
that, we're gonna take a littlebreak and see what Braden does and uh,
and we deserve the second half ofthe year. Yeah. Now,
we used to go out to HenryCounty and big out. You go out
there every single weekend when they're racing, and uh, you know, every
time a sprint car came. Itwas like twenty twenty two I think it
was the dang rain came. Itwas like every single time it was like
come on and and it really reallybad for the series. And hopefully all

(08:16):
that will change and they'll be ableto get some races in without the rain,
you know, taking care of everybodyand sending them all all the way
back home. You come from faraway. Last race, there was a
really good race he had there,So I mean, yeah, I think
he wanted to run second. Ithought it was a good, really good
race. Came from the back.Well. My last race that I was

(08:37):
at Hendry County, we were winningand stripped the power steering spud and ended
up finishing. Yeah, ended upnot finishing the race, but we should
have won it. Oh yeah,no, you you were walking the dog
on them that night. Yeah, that's yeah, that was at them.
That's what sparked up the whole threesixty deal with the RUSS that night was
we were that night I found outthat the three sixty ride that I had

(08:58):
for Volucia and that December had fallenthrough, and then we were winning that
night and U and broke. Soyou can follow us on YouTube. So
on my YouTube channel, we kindof do video blogs of all the races
and and ruts. Watched that videoas he does every week, and he
texts me on Monday, said, what's he going to take to put you

(09:18):
in at three sixty? And Iwas still in a bad mood and I
was like owning one, and yeah, I think he made it happen.
Well anyway, I think this yearthey're changing the rules right for the motors,
the top Guns belos So for thelast fifteen years, top guns kind
of been like an economic version ofa three sixty steel heads wet some motors
about five hundred horsepower, right,Um, carcounts kind of slumped a little

(09:41):
bit, and a lot of guyslike myself, they got me Mark Rule,
Danny Aj. There's about ten ofus that have all kind of gotten
three sifties and we kind of allwant to see where we stand on like
the national stage, not just downhere locally. And uh, I think
the carcount's fallen off and they've seenthat a lot of guys that have got
moved up to get that next kindof motor package. And next year top

(10:03):
Gun is going to be a nationaltype three sixty, which is, you
know, more north of seven hundredhorse power. Seven hundred fifty horse power
and aluminum heads and stuff like thatdry something. Yeah, so there's no
cam limit. Um, you havea you still have like spec heads that
you have to run um on theinside of the head. It has says

(10:24):
ASCs I believe, and you're notallowed to touch that part of the head,
but you can do anything else youwant to do and stuff like that.
Yeah. Yeah, And the onlythe only rule that they have is
just that head and you just can'town each intake an exhaust port. You
have a certain section that you justcan't touch where it has like a a
stamp in it. And rather thanthat, you can touch anything else.

(10:46):
Any cam size as long as it'sunder three hundred and sixty three cubic inches
and your injection is two and threesixteen inches thick. Um, you're good
to go. Well, I've condoneis for your father. He was a
really good friend in the show andI used to hang out with you dad
at the track. Great guy.Our condolences moved for the loss of your
father, and our congratulations for thebirth that's coming up with Braden. Braden

(11:11):
Gruball is going to be born inAugust, and so we won't see you
down with Daytona and that's a reallycool thing. So if anybody wants to
go see Brendon and he'll be atBelucia County next weekend weather permitting, and
the sprint car race. It'd begreat to see you out there in action
again. And hey, thanks somuch for everything that you do for the
Racy Nuts and we're glad that you'repart of our family. And I say

(11:31):
hi to Ashley for us, andwe hope to see you really soon at
one of our events coming up.Yes, sir, can we see you
guys, Brendan Gruball anything else, least the congratulations anything like that. Yeah,
I'm really happy to see him.Have a've been like kid. That's
great, all right, Brendan,It's really really cool to hear from you,
and we'll stay in touch with you, and as soon as the baby's
born everything let us know and wecongratulate you and send something over for Ashley

(11:54):
and all that, and hey,it's great to have you on the Racing
Nut Show brother again, thank you, sir. All right, Brendan Grupball,
guys giving my hand, Brendan Groupball. Brendan

The Burden

The Burden

The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. And it focuses a spotlight on those who triumph even when the odds are against them. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; “He paid me to do it.” David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a “live” investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Maggie had come to believe that the entire investigation of David was botched by the tiny local police department, or worse, covered up the real killer. Was Maggie correct? Was David’s claim of innocence credible? In Death and Deceit in Alliance, Maggie recounts the case that launched her career, and ultimately, “broke” her.” The results will shock the listener and reduce Maggie to tears and self-doubt. This is not your typical wrongful conviction story. In fact, it turns the genre on its head. It asks the question: What if our champions are foolish? Season 4 - The Burden: Get the Money and Run “Trying to murder my father, this was the thing that put me on the path.” That’s Joe Loya and that path was bank robbery. Bank, bank, bank, bank, bank. In season 4 of The Burden: Get the Money and Run, we hear from Joe who was once the most prolific bank robber in Southern California, and beyond. He used disguises, body doubles, proxies. He leaped over counters, grabbed the money and ran. Even as the FBI was closing in. It was a showdown between a daring bank robber, and a patient FBI agent. Joe was no ordinary bank robber. He was bright, articulate, charismatic, and driven by a dark rage that he summoned up at will. In seven episodes, Joe tells all: the what, the how… and the why. Including why he tried to murder his father. Season 3 - The Burden: Avenger Miriam Lewin is one of Argentina’s leading journalists today. At 19 years old, she was kidnapped off the streets of Buenos Aires for her political activism and thrown into a concentration camp. Thousands of her fellow inmates were executed, tossed alive from a cargo plane into the ocean. Miriam, along with a handful of others, will survive the camp. Then as a journalist, she will wage a decades long campaign to bring her tormentors to justice. Avenger is about one woman’s triumphant battle against unbelievable odds to survive torture, claim justice for the crimes done against her and others like her, and change the future of her country. Season 2 - The Burden: Empire on Blood Empire on Blood is set in the Bronx, NY, in the early 90s, when two young drug dealers ruled an intersection known as “The Corner on Blood.” The boss, Calvin Buari, lived large. He and a protege swore they would build an empire on blood. Then the relationship frayed and the protege accused Calvin of a double homicide which he claimed he didn’t do. But did he? Award-winning journalist Steve Fishman spent seven years to answer that question. This is the story of one man’s last chance to overturn his life sentence. He may prevail, but someone’s gotta pay. The Burden: Empire on Blood is the director’s cut of the true crime classic which reached #1 on the charts when it was first released half a dozen years ago. Season 1 - The Burden In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary. In a city overrun by violent crime, he cracked the toughest cases and put away the worst criminals. “The Hulk” was his nickname. Then the story changed. Scarcella ran into a group of convicted murderers who all say they are innocent. They turned themselves into jailhouse-lawyers and in prison founded a lway firm. When they realized Scarcella helped put many of them away, they set their sights on taking him down. And with the help of a NY Times reporter they have a chance. For years, Scarcella insisted he did nothing wrong. But that’s all he’d say. Until we tracked Scarcella to a sauna in a Russian bathhouse, where he started to talk..and talk and talk. “The guilty have gone free,” he whispered. And then agreed to take us into the belly of the beast. Welcome to The Burden.
