Speaker 1 (00:08):
Welcome back to Sports Talk ninety ninety five, Randy County
in the thread at Fasterner Studio where we are hosting
High School Media Day's twenty twenty five. Half the team's
for mobile in today and then the other half coming
in tomorrow. Today's teams include Saint Luke's We've got one
of their h I was gonna say position, but for
Mac Boone, Mac says, on the list of your offensive
line defensive line, you're also wearing a jersey's number twenty three.
(00:31):
What's happening with that man?
Speaker 2 (00:33):
So this year there spread me somewhere else. I'm playing
halfback at the moment, which is it's gonna be fine.
Speaker 1 (00:42):
So how did that come about?
Speaker 3 (00:44):
So?
Speaker 2 (00:45):
I mean, really, coach Gilmore just told me, hey, Max,
you're gonna come me in the backfield a little bit,
try you out. I was like, it's gonna do what
my coach tells me.
Speaker 1 (00:54):
Are they gonna give you the ball? Or you're just
there for the You know, you're like a glorified guard
back there.
Speaker 2 (01:00):
I have no idea. I'm just doing what doing what
the play calls for.
Speaker 1 (01:04):
All right, So so far you have been the star
of media days. Somebody in the media days asked like,
what do you say to your fellow students about, uh,
you know, coming out and trying football. What's your response?
Speaker 2 (01:18):
Uh, the first thing I said was you're gonna get
girls if you play football.
Speaker 3 (01:24):
Everybody had hit with that one. I will say that's
the selling point. That is the selling point for most.
Speaker 1 (01:31):
That's working for you.
Speaker 3 (01:32):
This worked pretty well. A couple of times.
Speaker 2 (01:34):
I will say, you should be able to get more teammates, right,
that's the goal.
Speaker 3 (01:39):
Very good.
Speaker 1 (01:40):
Tell me about tell me about this team this year
for Saint Luke's.
Speaker 3 (01:44):
I'm I love it so far.
Speaker 2 (01:47):
As I've said before, everybody, everybody who's on the team,
they want to be there. And so you can really
see that during the practices and the workouts. They got
that drive that we didn't quite have last year. And
I think with that drive we knew good.
Speaker 1 (02:01):
So Mack, your brother came before you at Saint Luke's, Right, Yes, sir,
tell me about his journey because that's like, that's really
interesting for I would think for fans who were not
even necessarily fans of Saint Luke's, but his journey through
high school and college.
Speaker 2 (02:14):
So let me think actually when he was playing. We
didn't have a middle school team, so he was on
the varsity seventh and eighth grade, and he ended up
becoming the starting kicker, I think in eighth grade because
they didn't have anyone better. And so he was the
kicker his entire high school career. And he also did
(02:34):
receiver and he might have been safety as well. But
went to college Birmingham Southern. He tried out for the
kicker spot and he was on the team and then
he wasn't, and then he wasn't in Birmingham Southern shut down.
It's quite unfortunate.
Speaker 1 (02:53):
That's a that was shocking though, you know the fact
that not only the team shut down, but the whole university.
Speaker 3 (02:58):
Yeah, everyone was surprised with all those.
Speaker 1 (03:01):
You know, all those people going to school there and
the UH and the athletes. What did what did he
do when that shocking news came out?
Speaker 3 (03:10):
I mean, he's not too much he can do.
Speaker 2 (03:13):
He had to start looking for other schools, had to
weigh his options going a second college hunt. I think
he just wanted h he wanted to stay with the
people he knew in Memingham that he had made friends with,
and so he ended up going to Sanford.
Speaker 1 (03:29):
It's another good choice.
Speaker 3 (03:30):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (03:31):
Another good choice is it is it playoffs or nothing?
You know this year for for Saint Luke's. What are
the goals for the team this year?
Speaker 2 (03:36):
I mean, I'm just worried about the next game because
you never know with football, it can be freak accidents.
Speaker 3 (03:44):
They can be good and bad.
Speaker 2 (03:46):
So I think I think the best thing for us
is just look to the next game, next drive, next play,
just play our hearts out.
Speaker 1 (03:55):
Very good, Matt. I appreciate your man, Yes, sir, good
luck you guys this year.
Speaker 3 (03:58):
Thank you.
Speaker 1 (03:59):
