Speaker 1 (00:07):
Welcome back to Sports Talk ninety ninety five r Indy
County and the Thread and Fasteners Studio. Let's talk some
mma here because we got a rising star here from
the city of Mobile cam Tigue, and he joins us
right now, just on the eve of his appearance on
ESPM CAM. Exciting stuff.

Speaker 2 (00:24):
Man, Good to talk to you, Hey, Ben, I'm great.

Speaker 3 (00:27):
How you doing doing great?

Speaker 1 (00:28):
So coming up on Tuesday, February twenty fourth, We've got
on ESP and right this big breakthrough for you.

Speaker 3 (00:37):
Yes, very fighting in front of Dana White and the US.
It's everything I've been working for.

Speaker 1 (00:42):
So talk to me about getting into this sport. So
you went to Faith Academy, right, you're there. How did
you first decide, Hey, I want to give this a shot.

Speaker 3 (00:53):
I was looking for a hobby after work when I
got a high school and I rolled up the Port
City and they beat me up and I just kept
at it and I had fun doing it.

Speaker 1 (01:04):
Port City Combat Sports is a really gaining a good
reputation for producing outstanding fighters. Coach Jimmy Mills. Did they
when you first went in there? Were you like, let
me just see what this is about? And they kind
of gave you a lesson or what was that Like?

Speaker 3 (01:19):
Yeah, I was just trying it out, trying to find
things to do for like a hobby and stuff. I
was like nineteen, and I enjoyed it. You know, there's
a lot of the fighters there, they which really took
me under their wing, like Mike Marnette who fought in PFL.

Speaker 2 (01:31):
He's a local.

Speaker 3 (01:31):
Fighter as well, and they've really helped me progress my
careers at this point.

Speaker 1 (01:37):
Did they really did they really beat you up? Or
like how tough was it in the early going?

Speaker 3 (01:44):
Some of them, you know, they went a little hard,
but it wasn't too too bad. Like if you went
to the jump today, we're not going to beat you
up or anything. But I was a young kid. I
probably went a little too hard, and you know, some
guys would try to teach me a lesson, but you know,
I'm just a competitor, so I just kept coming back anyway.

Speaker 1 (02:05):
So when did you have your first professional fight? I
think your record what's seven O and O now? Seven victories?

Speaker 3 (02:11):
Yes, sir, I'm seven to another right now. I went
pro last year, been a pro for about a year
and a half. So it's a pretty quick ride for
me because most guys, you know, it takes a while
for them to get to this point. But I have
a very good fighting style, very fan friendly, and you
know that's what the UFC likes, with Dana likes.

Speaker 2 (02:30):
So I'm here, what would.

Speaker 1 (02:32):
You how would you describe your fighting style to somebody
who hadn't seen you?

Speaker 3 (02:37):
Very aggressive. I'll come to knock you out or get
knocked out trying. And I think that's fight the USC
who gave me this call.

Speaker 2 (02:43):
You know, it's what everybody wants to see.

Speaker 3 (02:45):
People don't want to see people laying on the ground
or holding on the case the whole fight or point fighting.
They want to see knockouts. They want to see finishes.
So that's what I try to deliver every time.

Speaker 1 (02:55):
So Cam, I think your your rises. I mean it's
been really quick with Dana Whites' organization Contender series, it
was a pretty quick turnaround, right you were fighting and
then next thing you know, the folks with Dana White's
organization were saying, hey, do you want your big shot here?
And it was kind of a quick turnaround, right, Oh.

Speaker 3 (03:13):
Yeah, I got this fight about three and a half
weas go four weeks. I just about two weeks after
I fight. I just fought in Dallas, Texas to the
main event. It's a former UFC fighter, Austin Lingo, who's
won multiple times in the UFC and he has never
really been finished. And I put him out and it
really put me on the map. So I got this
phone call he said, hey, you want to come prove yourself.

(03:35):
We need somebody to step in and fill in this fight,
and they called the right guy.

Speaker 2 (03:38):
I was ready to do that, and.

Speaker 1 (03:40):
You were like, man, it doesn't matter if I just
follow or what I'm going through. Just put me in there, right.

Speaker 2 (03:46):
All right.

Speaker 3 (03:46):
I could have been sick, I could have been hir
and make if they needed Eve tomorrow, I would have
shown up anyway.

Speaker 1 (03:52):
That's great stuff. So so who you going against and
what do you know about your opponent coming up on
Tuesday night?

Speaker 3 (04:00):
I mean thirteen and one Kevin Vlahos. He's a pretty
heavy handed guy. He's got nine knockouts, you know, so
it's gonna be probably a really big stand up fight,
and I can guarantee it's probably gonna be fight the night.
There's only five fights that night, but if you watch
them all, you'll.

Speaker 1 (04:16):
Remember mine the most safe, say You're gonna come forward, right.

Speaker 2 (04:22):
Yeah, I'm gonna come forward. I'm gonna go get it.

Speaker 1 (04:25):
That's a that's definitely your style of watch some of
your fights. That definitely seems to be your style to
be going forward, whether it's a first round knockout or
second round knockout, to always be trying to be the aggressor.
Is that right?

Speaker 2 (04:37):
Yes, that's just the.

Speaker 3 (04:38):
Way I fight, and I don't really know how to
fight any other way. We tried to work on some
some other ways to fight, but ultimately, at the end
of the day, I'm a guy that, like staff All,
I like to get I like to get in fights.

Speaker 2 (04:50):
You know. I don't, like I said earlier, I don't
like to point fight or go to the distance.

Speaker 3 (04:54):
I'm trying to take your head off the whole fight
or get mine taking off.

Speaker 2 (04:57):
Trie.

Speaker 1 (04:57):
So we're talking to Cam. He is gonna be on
ESPN Tuesday night Live on ESPN with his mm A fight.
He is seven and oh so far, Kim, tell me
about your background were you were you involved in other
sports before you got out of high school and realized
you were going to give this a shot.

Speaker 3 (05:18):
Yeah, I played basketball, sockey, or football. Pretty much everything
you could think of growing up and in high school,
you know, tracked, so I was to have a very
big athlete background. So I translated well into fighting.

Speaker 2 (05:32):
So it wasn't that hard to get into this sport.

Speaker 3 (05:34):
You know, it's just a little bit different. You know,
there's no ball involved.

Speaker 2 (05:38):
It's just hitting each other at the end of the day.

Speaker 1 (05:42):
Have you been working at all about, you know, on
your ground game. I mean, I know you like to
you like to go forward and stand up and go fight,
but have you been working on that part of your game?

Speaker 2 (05:51):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (05:52):
I have a really good grafting background. I have my Blake,
Blake Jordan, my wrestling coach.

Speaker 2 (05:57):
He keeps the right black belt Jujit too. I'm a
purple belt.

Speaker 3 (06:00):
You just do so if they hit the ground, I
can beat you later as well. So I got a
couple of submission wins on my record, but ultimately I
am trying to stand up and make it a stand
up fight. But if they go to the ground, I'm
comfortable down there as well.

Speaker 1 (06:15):
Twenty six years old, right, yes, sir? How big are
you now?

Speaker 3 (06:19):
Right now? I'm I'm five ten and I'm waiting right
now one fifty five.

Speaker 2 (06:23):
But I'll be one forty five on Monday that way in.

Speaker 1 (06:28):
Okay, all right, good stuff, all right, Well this is uh,
this is this is awesome, Kim. I know there's gonna
be a lot of people watching you and uh, you know,
pulling for you back here in the hometown.

Speaker 1 (06:38):
This is uh, your rise to this level is pretty meteoric. Man,
So it's pretty cool to watch you do.

Speaker 2 (06:43):
