Speaker 1 (00:00):
He may not be perfect.
Speaker 2 (00:02):
I am the perfect gentleman, but he.
Speaker 3 (00:03):
Brought you into the world, so he can't be all
that bad.
Speaker 4 (00:07):
Dad.
Speaker 5 (00:07):
I love you more than words can say.
Speaker 1 (00:09):
Happy Father's Day. From the River ninety seven three, Proudly Pa.
This is the local show with a Central Pennsylvania Music
Hall of Fame on the River ninety seven three.
Speaker 2 (00:23):
All right, welcome to Season three, Episode thirteen, Lucky thirteen.
It's Glenn Hamilton from the River, my friend Brandon Valentine
from the Central Pennsylvania Music Hall of Fame. It's here. Yes,
Happy Father's Day to you, Glenn. Aw back at you, bro,
It is actually Father's Day proper today. That's right, pretty cool.
And you had a brilliant idea for the show this week.
(00:46):
Why don't you tell him what we're doing? Well, you know,
I figured we work so hard at the local show here,
curating the music and playing it on the air every
Sunday at eight pm. So we figured why not take
the night off a little bit, you know. And also
we love we love our kids, right, so do we
like to see them succeed and do their thing as well?
So we figured we bring him into the studio tonight. Yeah,
(01:06):
let them host the show. That's right. So you have
your son, that's right, My son, Ethan Valentine is here,
and your daughter Emily is here. Emily Shirley is here. Hello, Emily, Hi, Ethan.
What's going on? Dude? What's going on now? I will
say this. Ethan also is a drummer extraordinary, just like
(01:27):
your dad is a massive drummer. I think you're better
than your dad. But anyway, shots fired. He might agree
with that, would you agree with that? I think show man?
You know, the kid practices a lot, and my practice
days have long over. Well, you get paid to practice
now you get paid by gigs, Brandon, that's right. But
(01:48):
I mean Ethan is just one of those you know,
so drummer extraordinaries, like you were born with it, right,
But you work hard too, don't you, thanks Glen, Yeah,
now you sell it. You're four. No, it's just an
absolutely talented drummer. And then Emily is a singer and
an actress and uh, all kinds of stuff. You can
(02:10):
What do you play? What means do you still play
the leukulele? I don't know.
Speaker 6 (02:13):
I can sometimes my three chords.
Speaker 2 (02:17):
Yeah, and I did teach you the d chord on
the guitar. Yeah, so Emily can play. You also played
the saxophone for like how many years in school?
Speaker 7 (02:26):
I did?
Speaker 6 (02:27):
From fourth grade to eighth grade.
Speaker 2 (02:28):
I did. Now, she's one of those kids that didn't
practice at all hardly. Uh, and we were kind of
glad because saxophone. Yeah, practice, but you were also very
good for not practicing. You were always like second chair
or third chair or something pretty high up. Yeah. So
he's got some natural musical ability. The real talent comes
in the pipes, though, I've seen I've seen some videos
(02:50):
of you know, doing the Broadway thing high school and
now college, so good stuff, and also singing with uh,
singing with some local bands too, So yeah, it's true
jelly and stuff. So we're gonna what we decided to
do is let let our kids pick the songs for
this week, some of the bands that they like, some
of the bands that they know, and uh, that's what
(03:12):
we're doing. It's it's their playlist tonight. It's so uh
who I think We're starting with one of Emily's picks.
This is the first band that you ever saw play live.
Speaker 6 (03:23):
Yeah, this is true.
Speaker 2 (03:24):
Do you remember who what that was for?
Speaker 7 (03:26):
Yeah?
Speaker 6 (03:26):
It was for toys for Tots, our.
Speaker 2 (03:28):
Very first ever toys for tots at Appalachian Brewing Company.
I want to say two thousand and eight, eight or nine, yeah,
So you would have been like three yeah or something
like that. And so who are we gonna hear right now? Emily?
Speaker 6 (03:43):
The Martini Brothers.
Speaker 2 (03:45):
You inter you actually introed them on stage. I was
holding you in my arms and you were like, ladies

Speaker 6 (03:51):

Speaker 2 (03:54):
They were like, yeah, okay, because you go to deuce

Here, ladies and gentlemen, the Martini Brothers.
Speaker 2 (04:09):
It's the local show on the river, ninety seventy.
Speaker 8 (04:12):
Three, spinning on an axis. Just this morning with my breakfast,
and I've come to realize everything's a spoof, all the
frosted flakes of reason surf, the Milky Way of treason,
(04:35):
this whole meal. I sat here trying to find proof.
Speaker 9 (04:41):
As I look inside my spoon to see my upside
down reflection, and I wonder if the truth too big
a hole that caught within this time as realm of
breakfast table contemplation, my temporal flakes of gold soggy in
their bowl.
Speaker 4 (04:58):
And I.
Speaker 10 (05:02):
And I'm and now.
Speaker 9 (05:10):
About time, and I'm part by.
Speaker 10 (05:17):
A part and that's the only.
Speaker 6 (05:25):
Thing.
Speaker 8 (05:30):
Spinning on an axis in a car driving through Texas,
and I wonder if the state is absolute, because deep
within its borders, I forget about the Bartles, Oklahoma.
Speaker 3 (05:42):
Weights to show me all its truth. And I live.
Speaker 10 (05:51):
And and I.
Speaker 2 (06:03):
And I'm part bound.
Speaker 7 (06:06):
And part I'm bad.
Speaker 10 (06:10):
And that's the only.
Speaker 7 (06:14):
Thing I have, fat.
Speaker 10 (06:19):
So sho.
Speaker 3 (06:20):
I know that I'm solely but solid existing and.
Speaker 10 (06:24):
Solely so.
Speaker 9 (06:26):
That some set I feel that Bucky Fanny real, you
don't just exactly the deal.
Speaker 3 (06:34):
Love and I love, and I wander a bast and
I'm part bound, part I'm bad, and.
Speaker 11 (06:57):
That's the only.
Speaker 10 (07:01):
Thing. And now.
Speaker 6 (07:29):
That was the Martini Brothers with Spinning on an Axis
from their album Transmission on the River in ninety seven
to three. So that was my pick, Ethan, what's your pick?
Speaker 4 (07:41):
Very cool, very cool song there. I picked Yeam Yeam
Yamyam is a great band. Yeah, this is the first
song I remember, you know, being in the car with
my dad. He's like, let's listen to some local music

add to the playlist.

Yeah, so my second pick is all About You by
the Jelly Bricks. The Jelly Bricks are my personal fave.
I would just say that I'm their number one fan.

on the Local Show on the River ninety seven to three.
I'm Emily, Glenn Hamilton is my dad and my co
host and night's Ethan Brandon Valentine is his dad. We're
taking the local show this week for our dad's on
Father's Day.
Speaker 4 (16:23):
We're also picking the music for the show this week
by bands that mean a lot to us. Coming up,
we have music from Trash Juice, Surface Noise, and The
Winery Dogs. So, Emily, what is the first concert you remember?
Speaker 6 (16:33):
The first concert I remember was the Martini Brothers at
Toys for Tots. But my first like big show concert
was Stevie Nicks when I was seven. I'll never forget that.
And I actually got to see her again this past
year in September, and it was just like full circle moment. Uh,
what about you?
Speaker 5 (16:54):
Very cool?
Speaker 4 (16:55):
Yeah, my first concert I saw Harry Connick Junior for
a Christmas show at the Hershey. Yeah, that was definitely
my first legit one too nice.
Speaker 6 (17:05):
So what is the best concert you've ever seen?
Speaker 5 (17:08):

Speaker 4 (17:08):
The best concert I've ever seen, though, was Solar Federation
at the Whittaker Center this past December. Maybe it was,
was it two years ago? Was it a year and
a half, last year, it was last year? Whenever it was,
it was great and it was the best concert I've
ever seen.
Speaker 6 (17:22):
Awesome?
Speaker 4 (17:23):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, what about you? What's the best concert
you've ever seen?
Speaker 6 (17:26):
My best concert was probably Billy Joel. I love him
so much. We saw him in Philly a couple of
years ago, probably in twenty eighteen. Uh, it's sad that
he had to cancel his tour. Hope he's doing okay,
But yeah, I'm so glad that I got to see
him when I did. So Yeah.

Yeah, very cool. Yeah, stick around.

Speaker 6 (23:14):
Yes, My third and final pick is a band called
Surface Noise and Sally Bowman is in this band, and

Speaker 4 (27:34):
My final pick is Oblivion by the Winery Dogs. The
guitarist and lead vocalist, Richie Cottson is from Redding. He
was originally a member of Poison and he's done some
solo work and now he tours with the Winery Dogs.
Speaker 5 (27:47):
The drummer is Mike Portnoy.
Speaker 4 (27:49):
He's the drummer of Dream Theater, and I guess I
picked this one because I'm working on a Dream Theater song.
You know, I'm being humbled by it over the last

Dang it, we're here ruined, the ruined the vibe. So, Emily,
what is your favorite band? Who is your favorite favorite band?
Speaker 5 (33:10):
Is the Beatles?
Speaker 2 (33:11):
Good choice? I've raised you right, makes sense why she
likes the Jellybricks too. Have you been to one of
their tribute things the Beatles?
Speaker 10 (33:20):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (33:20):
It made you know. I mean, how can you not
love the Beatles? They're they're the basis that everything that
we know and love about music is themmed from and
including all of their influences. But they truly did change
the way that music was written, recorded, consumed pop culture
all that so good choice. Ethan ask you the same question.
Who's your favorite band?
Speaker 5 (33:41):
Yeah, my favorite band is Rush for sure.
Speaker 2 (33:45):
Hence the Solar Federation concert. You can't see Rush nowadays, right,
that's as close as you're gonna and it is close.
That's as close as you're gonna get. And you've seen
Solar Federation.

the jingle bells live. That's not a recorded, you know,
sampled jingle bells. She plays the jingle bell steady throughout
right and Ethan. You are part of the Central Pennsylvania
Youth All Star Band, and so you've been on a
couple of their massively popular songs cover of Baba O'Reilly
(34:57):
which got attention from both Pete Townsend and Roger Dalti

that monster cover of Tom Sawyerbridebrush.
