Churches United is our special in studio guest, and Nick,
I know this is like like unfathomably the busiest time
of your year with everything that you've got in.
Speaker 4 (00:57):
It is, man, it is probable us right, Christmas is
sure busy time, but it's so wonderful to be a
part of the soundtrack of Christmas here at Harrisburg with
Jordan Berg.
Speaker 1 (01:06):
I like to claim that whether that's true.
Speaker 3 (01:07):
Or not, and it's not just about the music. I mean,
of course that's the main thing for Joy to the Burg,
but it's what the money does that people spend to
buy the albums every year and to go to the concerts.
You've got some real stories with skin on them.
Speaker 4 (01:28):
Absolutely, I can't wait to share a little bit about
my guy Lester. His story is a great one, and
where he's at right now it's pretty incredible, so I
can't wait to share about it.
Speaker 3 (01:37):

a few minutes, but first let's get to some of

some of the annual favorites, but this two disc twenty

Joy to the Berg Trilogy. This is episode two, so
thank you for tuning in as we feature lots of
the music from this year's double disc set, which is
(13:57):
chock full of twenty five Christmas songs from local artists, bands, musicians.
And that is just us two too. With Christmas Valentine,
we had Bob Geiger back there in perfect.
Speaker 1 (14:10):
Harmony started us off.
Speaker 3 (14:11):
I'm Glenn Hamilton, Brandon Valentine from the Central Pennsylvanian Mission Qualifier.
That's right, your names in that song, and our special
in studio guest Nick Mucci, who is a co chair
once again this year for Joy to the Burg with
Christian Churches United.
Speaker 1 (14:26):
And it's not just about the music.
Speaker 3 (14:28):
The music is the method, but it's all about what
your money does, what your dollars do to really truly
help our unhoused.
Speaker 1 (14:36):
Neighbors in Central Pennsylvania.
Speaker 4 (14:38):
Yeah, So the funds raised from these albums, from the concerts,
from all of the different things, it goes to support
outreach to those who are currently homeless here in Harrisburg.
And so for us at Christian Churches United, there's three
different programs. It's our street outreach program that is connecting
with folks while they are on the street, as well
as our two overnight shelters. Our our Women's shelter which
is now a year round shelter it's actually opened thanks
(15:00):
to Jordan the Berg back in twenty nineteen. It is
now a year round shelter. But then also our men's
winter overnight shelter, and that's December one through March thirty first,
and it was at that shelter where we first encountered
Lester when he came in to visit back in February
of twenty three and so Lester's story is a pretty
great one as he came and found safety there at
(15:22):
the shelter. Lester came to the shelter in February and
as he spent some time there, thankfully we had some
space open up at our men's facility at safe Haven,
so Lester, who was resting there at the men's overnight shelter,
ended up moving into safe Haven and going through the
process there. Safe Haven is our home for men who
are chronically homeless and have a mental health diagnosis. And
(15:44):
from there Lester kind of he got what he needed.
He got the support he needed, the encouragement that he needed,
and he ended up moving upstairs to where he had
his own space, He had his own room. And the
goal is always for our guys, we want them to
move out into their own apartment. Well, Lester, who came
to the shelter that is funded partly through Joy to
the Burg, ended up moving out on April first of
(16:07):
twenty twenty five and one week later, Lester started as
an employee over at Susquehanna Harbor Safe Haven, where his
story is now lived out in front of the men
who are coming to our shelter receiving the support from
jordath Burg, and Lester is there each and every day
a witness to the power of transformation that this project
(16:28):
is helping create.
Speaker 1 (16:29):
That's the thing.
Speaker 3 (16:31):
Your dollars really do go somewhere, and it's right here
in the greater Harrisburg area. So Joydotheburg dot com can
get you all the information to buy this year's double CD,
download the album, find out the carns locations you can
buy it, or just make a donation free and clear
(16:51):

Speaker 1 (16:57):

Speaker 3 (17:00):

and then hear some more stories from Nick Mucci how
Joy to the Berg impacts our neighbors here in Harrisburg.
Speaker 1 (17:08):

the Good Day Pape, but that doesn't mean that you
can't still enjoy all this wonderful music throughout the season,
right Brandon, That's right. And even here on the local
show in the River ninety seven three, we like to
showcase some different genres, get some variety, and you know what,
the same thing actually happens with Jordan the Berg. Every
year we get submissions from all different genres, be it
(18:19):
R and B or rock or jazz, instrumental country, and
heck even some bluegrass. And that's the next one we
got here. It is Canaan's Land with Bluegrass Christmas on

Christian Churches United, has taken a liking to the project
as not only managing in the past, but now being
a participant in the We talked about varying genres in

Speaker 1 (25:00):
Week of December.
Speaker 7 (25:03):
I was looking at all the likes. There was red
and green, and white and blue way, and it struck
me all that I had to do. The first thing
I did was I got out of pen and the

Speaker 3 (29:19):
Nineteen more twenty five songs total for the double disc
set at joy Toothburg dot com.
Speaker 1 (29:26):
How much is this year's album suggested donation of twenty dollars?
Speaker 3 (29:30):
That's less than a dollar a song if you're doing
the math in your head, and that's that's incredible for
all this incredible music. Details of Joytotheburg dot com. Nick
muchI from Christian Churches United, the co chair of Jodidburg
again this year, has some great stories because he knows
exactly how your money goes to help our homeless population.
Speaker 4 (29:50):
Nick, Yeah, I wanted to talk about Robert real quick. Yeah,
we'll talked about. The funds raised through this project support
three different parts of our ministry, one of them being
street out, So we have individuals who work for us
who are out on the street connecting with people who
are currently homeless, offering support and case management. And Robert
was a guy who had spent over three years on
(30:10):
the street. He had been finding different places to rest,
had some connection with Downtown Daily Bread, connection with us,
and he would work with our case manager John, and
one of the things that he always would do in
the midst of his own struggle.
Speaker 1 (30:24):
Robert was a consummate encourager of others.
Speaker 4 (30:27):
Our case manager John kept saying, you know, Robert, for
his situation, he had all the reasons to just be
self focused.
Speaker 1 (30:32):
He wasn't.
Speaker 4 (30:33):
He was constantly encouraging the other people out there to
do what needed done.
Speaker 1 (30:37):
Well.
Speaker 4 (30:37):
This past November, I got to sit in Robert's apartment
where he has been living for the past seven months. Wow,
and get to hear about just his own story, his
own challenges, and he still has that same spirit. While
we were there, John talked about some of the other
guys that Robert knew on the street and how they
were finding housing. And Robert would just sit there and
(30:57):
I could see the joy wash over him at somebody
else's story, at somebody else's success while he was still
in the midst of living his own success.
Speaker 1 (31:07):
Amazing.
Speaker 4 (31:07):
It's a wonderful story. Robert's an incredible guy. It was
beautiful to sit there and watch him and hear him
as he would look at his apartment say sometimes i
just sit and look at the walls and I'm just
so grateful for where I'm at now.
Speaker 3 (31:20):
Gratitude goes such a long way, and you guys, I'm
sure helped him quite a bit to get back on
his feet. Thanks to the donations of people that have
supported Joy to the Burg over the years. At Christian
Churches United had to Joy to Theeburg dot com for
