Speaker 2 (00:50):
If you're at the joyd of the Berg concert celebration

you know, perennial contributor to joyd of the Burg on

previous episodes, and Greg Platzer is definitely one of those.
He's always had his heart very close to this project.
He's a passionate participant of the Joy of the Burg
project each and every year. And he's always done something
either solo or with the band. Yeah, and he looks
good and crushed velvet. There you go to see his
video for this. He'll tell you that too, all right.

(01:35):

Christmas song. This is called Christmas Come Round Again on
the local show the River ninety seven to three. Get

may have heard that song before, but not that particular
version before and you can only get that on Joy
to the Burg Volume seven, the double disc set that's
out right now. And Greg platz Her with his original
Christmas Come Round Again. Such pretty guitars on that, I mean,
I mean that's what Greg's a luthier for crying out loud.

(06:38):
He's He's the guitar guy, fixer guy Uncle Greg and
has been a perennial part of Joy to the Berg
from the very beginning. So and Chrissy a big contributor
as well the past couple of years. She is she's
a bubbly personality. She is super super courteous and nice.
And you know, a lot of a lot of the
acts that we have on here is on behalf of

(07:00):
the Central Pennslvania music community. I always say thank you
to the artists who donate their time and talent to
be a part of this project, right because it costs
money to record these songs, that's right. They're putting the
time and the effort into it, and they're donating these
songs to help gain awareness about the un house community
here throughout the year with Christian Churches United and the
Joy of the Burg project. So everything that they provide

(07:22):
with their song they perform on stage at the concert.
You know they're donating the song to be up on
the streaming platforms and be a marketing message and a
voice out there for the greater good of this project.
And Nick's going to share with us here coming up shortly,
some more stories of how your money.

Speaker 8 (07:40):
Absolutely I can't wait to share a little story about
the women's shelter again. The women's shelter was open in
twenty nineteen, in large part thanks to this Joy to
the Burg project has helped raise over two hundred and
fourteen thousand dollars over the years, and so I'm excited
to talk about this women's shelter.

Speaker 2 (07:55):
We'll hear more about that after we hear from the studio.
Seven gang uh Brandon, what is the title of this song?
That's a great question. I haven't typo. You just fell
asleep at your time is here? No, I had Christmas
time is, and then I was like, all right, let
me figure out the rest ones on here, and I forgot.

Speaker 6 (08:16):
To go back here.

Speaker 2 (08:16):
It gues it says Christmas time is jkjkjk jk. I
literally thought you fell asleep on your keyboard, was what
I thought.

Speaker 6 (08:25):
It was.

Speaker 8 (08:26):
This was the first one.

Speaker 2 (08:27):
This is the one that got labeled as explicit. Yeah,
that would be censoring it here that this is the episode,
said the Studio seven Game. Christmas Time is here. Christmas
time is here. It's spelled h E R E whoever
ninety seven three Our special Joy to the Burg episode Volume.

Speaker 6 (08:47):

Speaker 2 (11:01):
It's the local show the River ninety seven to three.
It is Our Joy to the Burg Special episode three,
volume three in our trilogy this holiday season, and that
is the Studio seven Gang. Christmas Time is here with
Jim Buchanan on vocals. There you know Jim Buchanan doing
the weather all over TV for many many years. Also
a massive, massive radio god from back in the centers.

Speaker 1 (11:24):
I didn't know that night.

Speaker 2 (11:25):
Oh yeah, he startling radio, big time radio, nice for
the KBO days. Absolutely is a legend, absolute legend. And
what a great voice too with the Studio seven gang.

Speaker 12 (11:34):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (11:35):
Always good to have local legends on the Joy of
the Burg album, and we got twenty five of them
this year. It's twenty five tracks on the double disc.
There's a green disc, there's a red disc. You can
obtain the CD online or at one of the events
and we're in your local carn stores in twenty dollars
or Joyditheburg dot com. Yeah, suggest the donation of twenty bucks.

(11:55):
You can give more, and we'd love for you to
get more if you if your heart feels it it,
you can give them as much as you can. And
Nick muchI is our special inn studio guests from Christian
Churches United, a co chair of Joy to the Burg
once again this year. And you've got some great stories
to share about your women's shelter.

Speaker 8 (12:11):
Yeah you know that again. The women's shelter was open
in large part due to Joy to the Burg. And
one of the things with the shelter becoming a year
round part of what we do and not just winter,
our staff have worked very hard at trying to create
community and create a culture in that space, a culture
of warmth, a culture of care, and a space where

(12:32):
people can come not just for sleep, but to be
known and to be cared for. And there was a
situation a couple months ago when a guest came and
she was kind of she was having a hard time,
and she was having a moment. And one of the
things the staff were celebrating the next day was the
other guests, the others who were there, who rallied around
her to provide her the support. Our staff were doing it,

(12:54):
of course, but our staff did it second. They stayed
back and watched as the guests took care of another there.
And it is such a beautiful, beautiful thing.

Speaker 2 (13:03):
That is happening there at the shelter. And that's all
because of your generous donations to Joy to the Berg
over the years. That's right. And the women's overnight shelter
opened in twenty nineteen, you said twenty nine teen, And
now the men's shelter has overnight for the Men's Winter right,
the men's shelters in the winter from December first to
March thirty first. You know what, you guys, keep buying

(13:23):
these discs and keep giving money.

Speaker 1 (13:25):
Let's do it.

Speaker 2 (13:26):
Get the men with the women. And I don't mean
it that way. I just mean get the Let's get
the men's shelter to be year round, just like the
women's shelter.

Speaker 8 (13:34):
Is that a goal that would be a beautiful thing
to see happen? And so we're grateful for your support.
The impact of your donation is the impact of these
albums that the musicians have helped produce and bring out.
Has created these different ministries, these different outreaches, and we
can't wait to see what is going to come in
the future.

Speaker 2 (13:51):
So fantastic, And we still have more music on this
week's episode from this year's double disc. Who are some
of the artists we're going to hear from after the

sponsor and have been from the very beginning of Joy
to the Burg. We support their mission and what they're
doing for our homeless community right here in the greater
Harrisburg area. And we've got a double disc this year,
Volume seven of the Joy to the Burg album, and

(15:45):
we've got more music to share with you. Who's up next, Brandon? Yes,
we ended things last with Jim Buchanan as part of
the Studio seven gang, and Jim Jim Buchanan is a
featured vocalist here in the Generations Big Band on with
Susan Court. So enjoy this one the Generation's Big Band
with their rendition of White Christmas on the local show

(16:08):

Speaker 6 (20:55):

Speaker 10 (21:08):

Speaker 2 (22:59):
The River ninety seven three, it's the local show Our
Joy to the Burg Special Volume three of our trilogy.
That's the Susquehanna Corral Loves Pure Light and White Christmas
the Generation's Big Band with Jim Buchanan once again contrances.
He's on two songs, and then Susan Court was the
y duo vocalist, the female vocalist on that version, absolutely

(23:22):
beautiful and Nick, maybe you're aware of this, but that
loves Pure Light right on the on the disc it
says Silent Night in parentheses. So is that the actual
name of Silent Night? Well, it's not the actual name,
so it's their version of the song. Okay, I catch
them all right, So we've got one more for this
week's episode and to wrap up it and bring it
home for our trilogy of our Joy to the Burg Special.

(23:43):
And these guys have I believe I have also been
part this band of every album at least every concert,
I believe. I think so.

Speaker 10 (23:51):
Yes.

Speaker 2 (23:51):
I think we missed them one year, but maybe during
COVID I can't remember. I don't remember either, but either way,
they're memorable. That's the point we're making here. They show
up in the red jackets and they march around, and
they're loud, and they're in your face, and they're awesome
and they're bringing the mood up everywhere they go. And
they just did it again this year at the twenty
twenty five Jordan of the Berg Concert on Sunday the fourteenth,

(24:14):
and I believe they performed this one as well. Actually,
it's a great way to end things here with volume
three of the Jordan of the Burg Special, and it's
a great way to end the CD as well. It's
what are you doing New Year's Eve? No Last call
on the local show The River ninety seventie.

Speaker 6 (25:00):
It fad.

Speaker 2 (27:17):
No last call on the local show The River ninety
seventy three. What are you doing New Year's Eve? It's
Harrisburg's own street band. That's right. They just pop up.
You never know where they're going to just and they
bring the party. It's literally a marching band. And it's
it's volunteer, right, isn't it pretty much volunteer? So you
absolutely yeah, And it's a hugegalation. Yeah, guys and gals.

(27:39):
Every instrument you can imagine yep is being played to
bring the party. So they've been a part of every
joy of the Burg. It's great to hear them again
this year. I'm Glenn Hamilton, Brandon Valentine and our special
in studio guest Nick Mucci from Christian Churches United, your
co chair once again this year for Joy to the Burg.
And I know, no, I don't. I have an idea,

(28:00):
a vague idea of how hard you work for this
and how passionate you are, and it's just it's amazing
what you do. And Brandon, I know you curate the
music and that's a lot and you coordinate the concert
and everything. That's a lot of work with the Central
Pennsylvania Music Hall of Fame. But Nick, I mean your
boots on the ground. Not only are you doing the
Joy of the Burg. You see what this money does

(28:21):
and how far this money goes.

Speaker 8 (28:23):
You know, this money extends so far beyond just the
Christmas season to year round, to the impact that outreach
year round to those who just find themselves in a
position where they need some help, they need some support,
they need people in their corner cheering them on. And
that's one of the things that I love the most
about Jorda the Burg. This is this is a busy season.
Christmas is a busy season for all of us, but
there are so many people who are a part of

(28:44):
this project, all of the artists, all of the producers.
You guys, I mean, I have to say, this is
three episodes that you've dedicated to Jordan the Burg and
so thank you Glenn, thank you Brandon. The work, the
energy that all of these different parts play within this
are sponsors. Ali's coming in as a title sponsor this year.
Ali shout out bargain outlet by good Stuff, cheat Stuff,

(29:05):
cheat Stuff cheap at Ali's because of sponsors, because of
the work that the artists do when offering up, because
of the work that Brandon does, the work that you do, Glenn.
Every dollar that people spend on the album, every dollar
that people donate, it goes to the work. It doesn't
go to the production, it doesn't go to the show,
it doesn't go to any of that. It goes to
the work. So your donations, your gifts help create opportunities

(29:27):
year round for outreach and support.

Speaker 2 (29:29):
That's amazing. So thank you for all you do, Nick,
and thanks to all who contribute. Again, if you want
more information, Joytotheburg dot com. We certainly hope you have
a merry Christmas with you and your families. This week
will be off I think for a couple of weeks.
We'll be back at some point in the new year,
Brandon the Central Pennsylvania Music Hall of Fame and inductions,

(29:49):
the awards and the Hall of Fame Induction ceremony coming
up in March at American Music Theater in Lancaster again
this year Wednesday, March fourth, at the American Music Theater.
Tickets are on sale now. Be reminding you in twenty
twenty six here when we come back with the local show.
Headlining some of the inducted artists this year will be
Marty McGuire of the Dixie Chicks or The Chicks and

(30:10):
the Ocean Blue as well as others. And of course
it'll be the local Grammy ceremony with glitz and glam
on the red carpet like it always is, so so much,
always looking forward to that, and Glenn has been a
great twenty twenty five here. This is wrapping up season
three right, Cheers to you, my brother, and we'll do
season four starting whenever you say next year. Well as

(30:31):
no calls, no last call said, what are you doing
in New Year's Eve? Yeah, let's rock and roll, buddy.
It's always a pleasure to do the show with you.
How can people submit their music?

Speaker 6 (30:41):
Well?

Speaker 2 (30:41):
Once again, Nick thank you so much for coming in.

The Burden

The Burden

The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. And it focuses a spotlight on those who triumph even when the odds are against them. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; “He paid me to do it.” David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a “live” investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Maggie had come to believe that the entire investigation of David was botched by the tiny local police department, or worse, covered up the real killer. Was Maggie correct? Was David’s claim of innocence credible? In Death and Deceit in Alliance, Maggie recounts the case that launched her career, and ultimately, “broke” her.” The results will shock the listener and reduce Maggie to tears and self-doubt. This is not your typical wrongful conviction story. In fact, it turns the genre on its head. It asks the question: What if our champions are foolish? Season 4 - The Burden: Get the Money and Run “Trying to murder my father, this was the thing that put me on the path.” That’s Joe Loya and that path was bank robbery. Bank, bank, bank, bank, bank. In season 4 of The Burden: Get the Money and Run, we hear from Joe who was once the most prolific bank robber in Southern California, and beyond. He used disguises, body doubles, proxies. He leaped over counters, grabbed the money and ran. Even as the FBI was closing in. It was a showdown between a daring bank robber, and a patient FBI agent. Joe was no ordinary bank robber. He was bright, articulate, charismatic, and driven by a dark rage that he summoned up at will. In seven episodes, Joe tells all: the what, the how… and the why. Including why he tried to murder his father. Season 3 - The Burden: Avenger Miriam Lewin is one of Argentina’s leading journalists today. At 19 years old, she was kidnapped off the streets of Buenos Aires for her political activism and thrown into a concentration camp. Thousands of her fellow inmates were executed, tossed alive from a cargo plane into the ocean. Miriam, along with a handful of others, will survive the camp. Then as a journalist, she will wage a decades long campaign to bring her tormentors to justice. Avenger is about one woman’s triumphant battle against unbelievable odds to survive torture, claim justice for the crimes done against her and others like her, and change the future of her country. Season 2 - The Burden: Empire on Blood Empire on Blood is set in the Bronx, NY, in the early 90s, when two young drug dealers ruled an intersection known as “The Corner on Blood.” The boss, Calvin Buari, lived large. He and a protege swore they would build an empire on blood. Then the relationship frayed and the protege accused Calvin of a double homicide which he claimed he didn’t do. But did he? Award-winning journalist Steve Fishman spent seven years to answer that question. This is the story of one man’s last chance to overturn his life sentence. He may prevail, but someone’s gotta pay. The Burden: Empire on Blood is the director’s cut of the true crime classic which reached #1 on the charts when it was first released half a dozen years ago. Season 1 - The Burden In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary. In a city overrun by violent crime, he cracked the toughest cases and put away the worst criminals. “The Hulk” was his nickname. Then the story changed. Scarcella ran into a group of convicted murderers who all say they are innocent. They turned themselves into jailhouse-lawyers and in prison founded a lway firm. When they realized Scarcella helped put many of them away, they set their sights on taking him down. And with the help of a NY Times reporter they have a chance. For years, Scarcella insisted he did nothing wrong. But that’s all he’d say. Until we tracked Scarcella to a sauna in a Russian bathhouse, where he started to talk..and talk and talk. “The guilty have gone free,” he whispered. And then agreed to take us into the belly of the beast. Welcome to The Burden.
