Speaker 18 (11:37):
Well solo, first time ever, your first solo project.
Speaker 2 (11:41):
All right, but some of the other bands you've been
in over the years, well.
Speaker 16 (11:44):
Going back to the early days the eighties, like Root
Awakening and then probably before you were around Trouble Walking.
Speaker 2 (11:50):
Oh I remember trouble Walking there first came here.
Speaker 16 (11:52):
Late eighties, j nineties, and then Bamboo Igloo right with
my boys, and then Zero Gravity was together for twenty
two years.
Speaker 2 (12:00):
So I can't wait for you to talk about this project.
We're gonna take a quick break and then we're gonna
come back with Brian and find out about all the
different people that you got to play on this record,
how some of these songs came about, and where you
recorded it. It's just it's really a phenomenal play. And
I'm not just saying that because I play on a
couple of songs.
Speaker 18 (12:18):
But he's not out on the cover.
Speaker 2 (12:20):
If I want girls to buy it, smart marketing move, Brian.

All right, we're back with the local show on the
River ninety seven three and iHeartRadio. This is season two,
episode thirty five with our friend Brian Seneca, local music
legend from Pakstang, Pennsylvania and Brian and also a CD
East graduate. Am I right?
Speaker 18 (13:59):
Absolutely actually did graduate believe in that.
Speaker 2 (14:01):
I'll tell you what. That's my own monitor as well. Really,
both of you guys, Yes, all right, my daughter was
a ram so there you go. It's still in the
Central Dolphin School District's right.
Speaker 16 (14:11):
Yeah, but we were we be a little different, all right.
Speaker 2 (14:17):
So the name of Brian's project in this this album
that just came out a couple of weeks ago, is
called I'm Still Around. And what was the inspiration for
the title of that.
Speaker 16 (14:27):
Well, it actually wasn't necessarily meant to be the title
of the album. I was in a band called Copper Circle,
which never actually even came to fruition. We never played
a show because we started and then COVID hit ah Yeah.
With my good buddy Tony Dubois Randy Kinsey, we started
a band and I came in with a song which
was called Little Games, and Tony said, you know, how
(14:51):
do you write songs? I said, I don't really know.
I just come up with riffs and and then I scat.
I scat over rhythms and and chord progressions, fake words
or whatever.
Speaker 18 (15:01):
Yeah, like Steven Tyler's one of my heroes. Yeah, do
a lot YEP.
Speaker 16 (15:04):
So he brought a song in and he had this
riff because I want to call the sign of the time,
so I wrote lyrics for him. We had a we
had a basic idea what we wanted to talk about,
and it became almost like almost like a concept record
that we did. So we released three records there, and
in that time I wrote the song I'm still around,
and I write constantly, like I don't sit down and
(15:24):
really play cover tunes unless I have something to work
with on the hassle the band I'm in now, or
I just played my guitar and the hardest thing for
me as I age is what do I talk about
in my age? Like what watching Colombo and going to
bed at nine thirty? I mean, that's that's not rock
and roll party every day good hook.
Speaker 18 (15:43):
Yeah.
Speaker 16 (15:45):
So I wrote about my life in that song basically,
and some of the other songs in the record reflected too.
But like the very first verse, if you listen to it, it says,
you know, teachers used to say to me, well, you
don't know how to listen, you can't focus on things,
will never be a musician because I have eighty ahe
D which they didn't diagnose. Then they just hit you
and told you to pay attention.
Speaker 2 (16:04):
Right straighten up.
Speaker 18 (16:05):
Absolutely. The first verse is Noel Stalley, pastang elementary.
Speaker 16 (16:09):
He called me scatterbrain, told me I could never be
a musician because I couldn't focus. And then later on,
obviously there's the you end up dead or locked in jail,
which is courtesy of my mother because that's where I
was probably going for a while. She threatened to send
me to Catholic school. Unbknownst to her, that's who I
was getting in trouble with one of the Catholic guys.
They just wore ties. So but yeah, that first song,
(16:29):
and then you know, Trent had the great idea of
shooting the cover at the Pakstang Grill. Thank you Nick
at the grill and all my people, I love you there.
Speaker 2 (16:37):
It's a great cover despite you being on it.
Speaker 18 (16:40):
I know it is.
Speaker 16 (16:41):
Actually when you see the cover, Trent said you should
name the album they kicked me out and won't let
me back in.
Speaker 2 (16:49):
Well, and Trent plays on a lot of the drums
on a lot of the tracks on the album.
Speaker 16 (16:54):
And Trent and yourself, you guys, I was blessed with
I'm blessed always with great friends and family.
Speaker 2 (16:59):
All right, well, let's do this set with your title
track to the album I'm Still Around. This is Brian
Seneca on the Local show on the River ninety seven
three and iHeartRadio.
Speaker 11 (17:33):
Teachers used to see me.
Speaker 12 (17:37):
You don't have listen. You can't focus, Sophie. You never
be a musician.
Speaker 17 (17:50):
A music fill its song me.
Speaker 4 (17:59):
So, Dad Crown.
Speaker 5 (18:04):
But I'm still round.
Speaker 8 (18:07):
Now, No.
Speaker 4 (18:11):
I'm steal roud, I'm stealing round. No, no, no, no,
I still dry.
Speaker 5 (18:24):
You end up there, don't lock the gee.
Speaker 4 (18:28):
If you don't see.
Speaker 17 (18:29):
You will live here.
Speaker 12 (18:33):
But then don't understand the tea starve.
Speaker 8 (18:39):
Excise ahead the seen live music.
Speaker 4 (18:43):
But it.
Speaker 17 (18:46):
Why I small, mom, you can't.
Speaker 4 (18:50):
Always be a class down. But I'm still round. No, no,
I'll steal row.
Speaker 8 (19:04):
I'll still row.
Speaker 4 (19:06):
No, no, no, no, no, no no, I'll steal roll.
Speaker 17 (19:14):
Yeah, I'm still.
Speaker 4 (19:22):
I still, I'm still coming.
Speaker 8 (19:42):
Okay, you just used to sit me. You don't know
(20:16):
how to listen, you can't focus, so neus.
Speaker 4 (20:23):
No real music shop, the music.
Speaker 17 (20:29):
Feel bays.
Speaker 8 (20:32):
Shop for me to spain.
Speaker 17 (20:37):
So so fund.
Speaker 8 (20:42):
But I'll see you around.
Speaker 4 (20:47):
I'll steal round down loud. I'm stilling around.
Speaker 5 (20:56):
I'll still around and how and out.
Speaker 2 (21:31):
That's the title track to the brand new solo project
from Brian Seneca on the local show on the River
ninety seven three. I'm still around and we can verify
that because he's literally right there. He's right here, still around,
He's right here next to us.
Speaker 3 (21:44):
And I think I heard a familiar voice on that track, right,
Wasn't was that Miss Amy Simpson?
Speaker 18 (21:48):
Amy?
Speaker 16 (21:49):
Amy's amazing singer, her and actually a friend of mine.
Britney Krause is the other girl singing on there too. Yeah,
but Amy's phenomenal. She's on several tracks on this record
and another track I think we'll hear later on all
right by me.
Speaker 18 (22:02):
Amazing.
Speaker 16 (22:03):
She's just so generous to come in and do that
with us, and she's incredible.
Speaker 2 (22:08):
And this album is so there's so many different types
of songs on a different styles of songs, and yet
it all sounds like it's really cohesive and meant to
all be together.
Speaker 16 (22:19):
Who produced the record Mike gibblin Red Chuck Studios, where
we recorded it.
Speaker 18 (22:23):
Mike is just the man.
Speaker 16 (22:24):
I could spend a whole interview just talking about how
much Mike means to me. He worked with me there.
We come down and he would have ideas and he's.
Speaker 2 (22:32):
A real producer. He will take your songs, he can
tell you what's good about it, and will appreciate what's
good about it, and they can help you build on.
So I did come up with stuff you didn't even
think about before, because he'd sit.
Speaker 18 (22:42):
There, well you and I and would play in the booth.
Speaker 16 (22:44):
I mean he'd sit in the booth and we'd sit
out there and play and then he'd say, like, I remember, well,
I think we'll be listening to it. The song Your Love,
which I did with Shelby as a duet, he said,
go out and play Jackson five octaves, and I knew
instantly what.
Speaker 18 (22:59):
He meant, and I went out and figured out where
to play it. And I love when it comes in
and like adds that you know that texture to it.
He's amazing, he is.
Speaker 2 (23:07):
This is it Your Love?
Speaker 3 (23:08):
Featuring Shelby Nelson by Brian Seneca from the album I'm
Still Around. It's the local show in the River ninety
seventy three in the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 18 (23:32):
You're so him.
Speaker 17 (23:46):
The way you move, the way you walk.
Speaker 10 (23:48):
The way it's not the way it's all sounds amazing,
The way you saw us, why you curus, the way
you're sick.
Speaker 8 (23:58):
I can't serious to bath.
Speaker 17 (24:03):
Your love is reading to me your voices you seem
to ride a wat you never bad all you no honess, live.
Speaker 4 (24:36):
Free through and talk in om of the big.
Speaker 17 (24:42):
From start to him, I spread out the small believe.
Speaker 4 (24:52):
Your love is a bad thing to me.
Speaker 17 (24:56):
Your voices seem to bride out launch you.
Speaker 4 (25:03):
Every day you drove the whole world of sound out
you drop this stream where to the roll out waunt
show you how all of not stwel.
Speaker 17 (25:29):
I was scared to give myself.
Speaker 4 (25:32):

Speaker 17 (25:40):
Trus your loves grand thing to me, your horses, music
(26:04):

Speaker 8 (26:06):
I want to give you every way, you too.
Speaker 17 (26:15):
My whole world of sound.
Speaker 4 (26:17):
Down you wrong stream.
Speaker 17 (26:21):
To the wound thou want to show you Valery, your

Speaker 4 (26:34):
To me, your horses us to mine.
Speaker 17 (26:38):
If I want to give you, you want to my
whole world of side, down your rod, the dream or
to the wound, I want to show you all.
Speaker 16 (27:27):
The river.
Speaker 2 (27:27):
Ninety seven three. You're listening to the local show and
brand new music from Brian Seneca, his first ever solo project.
That's from his new album I'm Still Around. That is
Your Love, featuring Shelby Nelson on vocals. You guys sound
so great together. Your voices really blend so well together.
Speaker 16 (27:44):
She's a dear, dear friend of mine and she helps
me make me look as handsome as I am because
she cuts my hair.
Speaker 18 (27:49):
Ah. But I actually wrote that song. That song's old.
Speaker 16 (27:53):
I wrote that song several years ago, and I did
a like a pre production work with Idelo Sivaglio, and
I wrote it to see if I could write a
disco song.
Speaker 2 (28:01):
Yeah, because if no one even knows you from Bamboo
wiglo or trouble walking. That's quite a departure, as they say,
Yeah it is kick It's kick ass, dude.
Speaker 16 (28:09):
And I wrote it just as myself to sing it.
And I said to her, so would you if I
because I was thinking like Peaches in herb or something
like that. So I rearranged the lyrics a little bit
so it would be a female perspective. And man, she
just hit it out of the park. I told her
where I wanted to sing, what I wanted to do,
and it was like first takes on almost everything.
Speaker 2 (28:25):
She's amazing and I wish she was doing more stuff.
Speaker 18 (28:29):
What do we have up next?
Speaker 2 (28:30):
What are you gonna play next? We're gonna play all
all I'll ever be. Yeah, I can't say it. There's
a lot there, but you can play. We will imagine that.
Tom Brokaw said it all. That's right, All I'll ever be.
Speaker 18 (28:43):
Doug co.
Speaker 2 (28:47):
So who plays on this one?
Speaker 18 (28:48):
Brian?
Speaker 16 (28:49):
Ever Be was the last track that we actually cut.
You're on that with your fantastic uh acoustic section you
came up with.
Speaker 2 (28:55):
Bless you you.
Speaker 16 (28:56):
You really did contribute so much to the records. The
songs that you played are some of my favorites.
Speaker 2 (29:02):
Well, they're just great songs. It was not that difficult
to come up with the parts for that. And you know,
Mike helped a lot too, Gibelin, So I mean and
you did. I mean it's it was a collaborative effort
for sure.
Speaker 16 (29:12):
Man, Well, I appreciate it. My friends helped them, helped
make it what it is. In my opinion, though, Well.
Speaker 2 (29:16):
Let's play it. This is all I'll ever be. It's
the local show on the River ninety seventy three. I

Speaker 2 (33:14):
The local show on the River ninety seven to three.
Our special end studio guest is Brian Seneca. He just
came out with his first ever solo album, featuring a
bunch of his friends and musicians from right here in
Central PA. The album is called I'm Still Around and
that song is all I'll ever be? What inspired that one?
Speaker 18 (33:31):
What's that one about?
Speaker 16 (33:33):
I guess it really explains who I am? You know
what I mean in a lot of ways, Like I mean,
I feel like I feel like that's what I was
put here for.
Speaker 18 (33:40):
You know what I mean.
Speaker 16 (33:41):
Like sometimes I tell people like they'll say, like, you know,
how do you write a song? Like I said, like
Tony said, and to me, like a guitar that I
started playing when I was like six years old, it's
like a magic box. And I know it sounds cheesy
at all, but like when I pick it up, like
stuff comes out of it sometimes. And I've seen an
interview with Tom Petty one time where he was kind
of talking my language. I understood what he meant, like
(34:01):
he doesn't know where it comes from, and like I'm
not saying I'm Paul McCartney, but you know, he said,
you know, you don't want to look it in the eye.
And I kind of knew what he meant because I
don't know where it comes from. And it was just
basically saying, you know, that's what I you know, that's
all I'll ever be is who I am. It's what
I feel in my skin with.
Speaker 2 (34:18):
Well, I have to say, and I know a lot
of musicians, and you are one of the most prolific
songwriters I know. And I don't think and I know
you don't take it for granted, and you say I'm
not Tom Petty I know you're not Tom Petty, but.
Speaker 22 (34:31):
Paul McCartney, Okay, I'm mis understood, my bad, But the
you know, the inspiration doesn't come to everybody, and it
doesn't and not every even if it does, not everybody
knows how to catch it and when to catch it.
Speaker 2 (34:45):
And the fact that you, like you said earlier, when
you play your guitar around the house, you're not playing
covers learning other people's songs. You allow yourself to be
that vessel and wherever that might be coming from, you're
ready for it. And not everybody does that. You've already
got another whole out written ready to go, I do.
I don't know many people that can say that. I
just recorded ten songs. Let's do ten more. That's amazing, dude.
Speaker 18 (35:07):
I thank you amazing, Thanks for the kind words. I mean.
Speaker 16 (35:09):
I just wish, I wish I could pay the bills
doing this, you know what I mean. But unfortunately they
don't call you a starving musician for.
Speaker 2 (35:17):
You never know, man, somebody might buy one of these
songs too. Just write for somebody else, that would be
really cool. You could quality songwriting. Let's play one more
from the album. What are we going to play now?
What do you want to play?
Speaker 16 (35:28):
We're going to play all right by me special shout
out to rags on the saxophone, Richie Ragsdale. Yes, it's amazing, amazing.
He's like the Edward van Halen on the saxophone.
Speaker 2 (35:40):
Hey man, brother, he really is. So this is all

Speaker 2 (39:55):
W the River ninety seventy three, the Local Show. And
(40:54):
that is our special guest Brian Seneca in studio from
his brand new album it's called I'm Still Around. You
just heard all right by me, and it's all right
by us if you come by anytime, Brian, this is
this whole album is great, ten songs, all original, and
you have so many people that play on it, the
different people at different times, different songs. Tell us some
(41:15):
of the people that are playing on it.
Speaker 16 (41:16):
Well, like you said, so many people, and I was
just overwhelmed with everybody that was excited to be a
part of it. You know that nobody's you know, second
guest or anything. They came right in. You know Amy,
we mentioned she did several songs on there. Your beautiful
daughter is on Never Before Harmony with You Before. Yeah,
great job, but she was so nervous that night. She
(41:37):
did such a great job on like cool.
Speaker 18 (41:39):
Well, that's how.
Speaker 2 (41:40):
Cool you guys are because it took her out of
her comfort zone because she's used to learning something before
she goes to sing it. And she literally you guys
were making up the line the harmony lines for her
to sing on the spot, and Michael was so giving
and open and she had a great experience. She felt
really good about how the way She's like, I can't
believe that's how it came out. That's what a good
producer will do. She has a beautiful voice for having there.
(42:03):
Who else is on there?
Speaker 16 (42:04):
Trent Trent Obviously, Logan played drums on on three tracks
My my, my brother rich Van Devender was on several
tracks from our days and and uh zero gravity and
that's like, you know, my right hand man. It's just
like the same thing. He came in with parts learned
for the song and it just went really well. I'm
trying to think. I hope I didn't miss anybody. Oh
Logan Dylan Dylan Materer. He played he played on my
(42:27):
Rick Springfield song you're honesty. Yeah, great, he's a great player.
The harmonies at the beginning of that.
Speaker 18 (42:34):
Yeah, that's that. Yeah, that's me trying to do Rick.
Speaker 2 (42:41):
And Greg pat.
Speaker 18 (42:41):
I think, how could I forget my buddy Greg Greg.
Speaker 4 (42:47):
Joke.
Speaker 16 (42:47):
Greg was basically a core band for a lot of
the songs, yourself, Greg, Mike played bass and keyboards and
uh percussion. He played the bongos on Unity, which features
my lifelong friend Jamie Morrow played All Star Baseball with
him and everything.
Speaker 18 (43:02):
He did all the hip hop stuff in there.
Speaker 16 (43:04):
Yeah, so the core band was basically myself, you, Greg, Trent,
and Mike, but then everybody else. You know, there was
days somebody couldn't make it, So kay, can you come
down and play drums?
Speaker 18 (43:14):
Yeah, I'll come.
Speaker 14 (43:15):
You know.
Speaker 18 (43:15):
It was just fantastic to get it done.
Speaker 3 (43:16):
Like that's awesome, man, I mean that that coming together,
you know, that's kind of you know what we'd love
to hear from kind of success stories and putting songs
together in albums is the camaraderie, the sense of family, uh,
you know, the collaboration really and it sounds like that
that is almost this It's almost an all star band
and all star effort.
Speaker 17 (43:32):
And it is.
Speaker 3 (43:33):
You got a lot of pa all star band. Yeah right,
a lot of a lot of big names involved there.
And you know, how does this look for you moving forward?
You got some original stuff. It sounds like you're working
on maybe a second album. What if somebody comes to
Brian and says, hey, Brian, we want to book you
for a live show and have you play some originals.
Speaker 18 (43:49):
I would love to do that.
Speaker 16 (43:50):
I'd like to put a band behind me, you know,
and uh not like I'm share or something like that,
but like you know, it would be it.
Speaker 2 (43:56):
Would be Seneca one name. It's like Van Haalen Seneca
with the Satanic ass. I can see it right.
Speaker 18 (44:04):
Yeah, Mom would love that. But you know, I mean
it would like anybody that's interested that was on the record.
Speaker 5 (44:10):
You know.
Speaker 16 (44:11):
I'd like to do a gig maybe like once every
six weeks or something, you know, because that's honestly, my
lifelong dream is to play my own music and people
actually be responsive.
Speaker 2 (44:19):
These songs should be played live, they really should. And
you've got the all the friends in the band that
will make it happen for you. Man, you probably have
to say the word and the date will get booked.
Speaker 16 (44:28):
I don't imagine spending Sundays was when we used to
usually worked on all the stuff.
Speaker 18 (44:33):
That's what I love to do. Creating music with my
friends is just you know, to me, it's the ulnament
thing to do.
Speaker 2 (44:38):
Well, buddy, you're welcome to come by here anytime. Thanks
for stopping in pleasure and sharing some of your music
with us. The whole thing. It's got ten songs. We
only played four of them tonight, but the whole album

they're playing and go see a local show.
