Speaker 1 (00:01):
Proudly Pa. This is the Local Show with a Central
Pennsylvania Music Hall of Fame on the River ninety seven three.
Speaker 2 (00:11):
All right, welcome into episode twenty one twelve. No wait,
I'm sorry, Episode twenty seven of season three of The
Local Show. I'm Glenn Hamilton from the River ninety seven three.
Brandon Valentine from the Central Pennsylvania Music Hall of Fame
right over there, Hey, Glenn. Every now and then we
like to do themed episodes, and we have a special
one today. We do because Rush Geddy and Alex Geddy
(00:34):
Lee and Alex Lifson announced that they were in fact
going to go out on the road next year and
perform the as Rush and perform the music of Rush
and honor their brother Neil Peart. Yes each night, and
I'm excited. I know both of us are huge Rush fans,
and I missed seeing them on tour and thought I'd
never get the chance, and obviously I won't with Neil Peart,
(00:56):
but yeah, I got. They have Yeah, they have Anakin
and i Else on the drums, who is a phenomenal player.
If you're not familiar with her, which a lot of
people weren't until they and I think it's a great
I think it's great that Geddy and Alex got somebody
that you know, there were, you know, all kinds of
names being thrown around, Dave Grohl, guy from Tool, yeah
(01:21):
for sure, and Dream Theater, Mike Portnoy like Portanoy was
was in the right. Yeah, those names are being tossed out, yes, correct,
But I think it's cool that Geddy and Alex went
with somebody who's not widely known so that that doesn't
kind of overshadow what they're trying to do, and yet
someone that can still technically pull off the Neil Peart
drum parts, which she is a monster, so go check
(01:42):
her out. So, yes, you've put together quite the theme
for us tonight, Brandon. Yes, it's all Rush related. So
we're either going to play some covers of Rush or maybe, uh,
I don't know, a little stretch of trying to find
a commonality here. But these are huge stretches, but they're hilarious.
Hang on for the ride because it's gonna be fun.
That's right. Starting off with the Central Pennsylvania Youth All
(02:04):
Star Band. You can check their video out on YouTube
as well. This is their incredible cover. What an undertaking
of Tom Sawyer, The Local Show on the River ninety
seventy three.

Speaker 7 (11:01):
Some stats.
Speaker 4 (11:02):
Udiance Walks.
Speaker 2 (11:57):
The River ninety seventy three Solar Federation's incredible cover of
Witch Hunts by Rush off the Moving Pictures album And
if you're not familiar, Solar Federation top tier tribute band
of Rush, Yeah, their Central Pennsylvania Music Award winners. For
sure the credibility on that. First of all, Terry Brown
(12:18):
produced that track, who produced all of Rush's seminal albums,
and I think that's even Hugh Sime, who designed all
of their album covers all of Rush's album covers, playing
some keyboard parts I think.
Speaker 9 (12:30):
And.
Speaker 2 (12:31):
And Hugh Sime designed the latest Solar Federation logo and
some of their artwork like the poster for their Whittaker
Center show this November, so amazing. Yeah, you gotta get
tickets for that. Go see them at Whittaker Center. No
better local stage to see it. It's November twenty ninth.
And then right before that we had the Central Pennsylvania
Youth All Star Band with their amazing cover of Tom Sawyer. Yes,
(12:55):
and that is a kind of an annual project we did.
We did Bobba O'Reilly with ust All Star Band, and
then we did do They New It's Christmas for the
Jordan the Berg album, and then this past year we
just released it here in April. That cover of Tom
Sawyer features Carmine Ganson vocals, my son Ethan Valentine on
drums playing the Neil Pier part right just a monster
that kid, and alex Lee Warner on guitar and Nooe
(13:17):
Giveney on keys and Levi Dickinson on bass. So great
credits there, all teenagers playing part for part of Rush,
which is very tough and challenging and they made it
their own. They did. Both bands made the songs their own,
they truly did, while staying true to the originals. So
this is our Rush themed local show with the announcement
(13:38):
that Geddy and Alex are going out on the road
as Rush in twenty twenty six. They just added a
slew of dates to the cities that they already had booked.
It's only seven cities for now, right, but we'll see,
you know, because I mean, just with the pre sa
just signing up for the pre sale, they could tell
this is going to be bigger than we thought it
(13:58):
was going to be. But come on, guys, is gonna
be big, right? I mean, who doesn't want it to
be big? I mean, the closest place to us here
Madison Square Garden. I'm gonna I'm gonna try to get tickets,
but we'll see what happens, you know. Yeah, The River
has a very special package that we're giving away for
the Toronto show. One of the Toronto shows is that
flight included. Yes, fly by Night sounds like I already
(14:21):
know who's winning that one. Yeah, but yeah, details at
the River ninety seven three dot com and it just
involves you listening to the River on the iHeartRadio app,
which you might be doing right now as a matter
of fact. All right, let's move on with our loosely
themed Rush program tonight on the local show Brandon, What
do you have for us next? Yeah, those first two
are pretty self explanatory, as far as Tom Slurer in
(14:43):
which on direct covers of Rush, here's where we're gonna
We're gonna stretch it out a little bit in the
next two. So the next one here, Glenn, I'm curious
if you know the origin of the song why y Z?
I do, And as the boys call it, it's they
say it up there, they say, why y Z? Why wyse?
That's right, it's actually the airport code for the Toronto
(15:04):
Airport got it so that whenever they saw that code
on their luggage tag or any of their equipment, they
were like, Ah, we're going home, going home. It's like
MDT for us at Harrisburg exactly. Somehow, I don't know
why y Z equals Toronto and MBT equals Harrisburg. I
don't know where they come up with these things. Canadian
That's why I don't know. I don't know. But nonetheless,
the stretch. Here is in the title. This song is
(15:27):
called Toronto. This is Steve Maser with his single Toronto
on the local show The River, ninety seven to three.
Speaker 7 (16:00):
Ticket on the ground full the station.
Speaker 9 (16:09):
Downtown.
Speaker 7 (16:11):
I want to take a trip and get away, a
new location, a new place. I went to the station
(16:50):
to get up ride to a new location. That makes
me feel a right. I don't know what where I'm going,
where I've been. This is it boys, last begin.
Speaker 6 (17:11):
I wanna go hard, I wanna go no where I'm going,
I don't know.
Speaker 7 (17:17):
I gotta get out of mine. I want to be free.
Speaker 13 (17:24):
I wanna live without God, nothing left against you.
Speaker 9 (17:29):
Gotta jacket.
Speaker 4 (17:30):
I can't make a walk.
Speaker 9 (17:33):
I want to go.
Speaker 7 (18:22):
I don't know why.
Speaker 13 (18:23):
I want to go to Toronto, it seems kind of cold.
Or rather go to San Diego. I think that'll buy.
I'll buy in a Pago to see what America's like.
And my parents that went away went to Las Vegas,
left me here with my grandma who used to be
a waitress.
Speaker 7 (18:40):
But it doesn't really matter. I know we're gonna make
it because we got what we need to get by.
Speaker 6 (18:48):
I'm gonna go na.
Speaker 10 (18:52):
I'm going I don't know.
Speaker 7 (18:54):
I gotta get out of my.
Speaker 14 (19:00):
I wanna be.
Speaker 7 (19:02):
I gotta.
Speaker 15 (19:07):
Got a jacket, Ticky, Let's go to.
Speaker 7 (19:33):
Let's go to Toronto.
Speaker 2 (19:40):
The River ninety seventy three. This is the local show.
That's Steve Maser and his song Toronto as part of
our Rush themed local show tonight. That's course where they
considered their hometown. They were all from. You know, Neil
was from Lakeside Park, Canada, but they all considered to
their home base for sure. It's Glenn Hamilton, Brandon Valentine
(20:04):
here on the local show. Coming up, we have another
stretch song here that's a play on working Man. We're
going to do another cover performed by a youth band
actually out of the district modern band back on April fifth.
And probably the deepest of the stretches comes in our
last one, which is we always like to feature an
(20:25):
artist or band that is eligible or in either eligible
for consideration or in our local music Hall of Fame.
And like I said, it's the deepest stretch, but you'll
get it. You'll get it, so stick around. We got
more of our Rush themed local show coming up next
on the River ninety seven to three and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 1 (20:45):
Central Pa Morning sound better when you don't have water
stuck in your ear. Come on, get out of their
Central Pa Morning sound better without a hangover.
Speaker 7 (20:56):
I think are going to be sick.
Speaker 1 (20:58):
Central Pa Morning sound better with the River on your radio.
Speaker 2 (21:02):
It's just so easy to turn on.
Speaker 1 (21:05):
Sound better with Glenna Hamilton week three mornings five to
ten on the River nineties seven.
Speaker 2 (21:11):
Three right now at the home Depot shop balls the
It's Glenn Hamilton here and Brandon Valentine. It's our special
Rush themed episode because Geddy and Alex announced that they
would be going out on the road as Rush next
year in twenty twenty six on the fifty something tour,
because last year was technically the fiftieth anniversary of Rush,
(21:32):
the original lineup with John Rutzi on drums. Neil didn't
join until seventy five. I didn't know that, that's right.
And you've seen him before, right, once or twice? Once
or twice? And what does that mean? Ten times? I
saw Rush about ten times. I've now seen Solar Federation
more than I actually have seen the actual band Rush. Okay,
I think I've seen Solar Federation more than I've seen
(21:53):
any live music in my entire life though that I
think about it. Wow. Anyway, So, yeah, Brandon has put
together a Rush themed episode. So it's either we're playing
an actual Rush cover or something like this. Yeah, keep
using the word stretch. We're using a bit of a
poetic license here, a little play on words. I guess
you could say you know. Excuse me, I guess you
(22:17):
could say you know in the spirit of radio, I
used a little bit of free will here. Hey, to
pick a song that kind of sounds like working man,
we went with the title working Hands. This is Nick
Andrews Staver with his single Working Hands on the local
show The River ninety seven to three.
Speaker 6 (23:09):
Grandpa would rise every morning, get out.
Speaker 7 (23:14):
To the field by Don.
Speaker 11 (23:18):
Pie in deers, bout the herd and break the rock
u by the Seed and Dogs dive, break.
Speaker 16 (23:29):
Rock up by the live, and break rock up by
rock up by rock Up by live and drink.
Speaker 11 (23:55):
My daddy laid bread every summer, hammer and nails and.
Speaker 9 (24:02):
A high in near country, kill and swift.
Speaker 7 (24:09):
Two jobs over.
Speaker 9 (24:11):
Timing honesty.
Speaker 17 (24:17):
Instead the work, working hands do work, workking hands to bleed,
working hands work all day.
Speaker 9 (24:31):
We got the bousion, I said the working.
Speaker 10 (24:37):
Hands do work, work, get hands to be, working hands.
Speaker 9 (24:47):
Work all day. We got the bous.
Speaker 11 (25:29):
I've come to learne the tireless ways of the pioneers
and their song the hell of Gods, the heaven flow
in the pan, the same pioneer of my own that
I've overcome, of my own, that I've overcome.
Speaker 16 (25:53):
Oh my, oh my, oh my own, let out come.
Speaker 9 (26:06):
I said, the work working.
Speaker 18 (26:08):
Hands don't work, work, working hands do please.
Speaker 9 (26:16):
Working hands work all day. Stee got the bus.
Speaker 18 (26:24):
I said, workking hands to work, workking hands do please,
the working hands work all day.
Speaker 9 (26:38):
We got mouse to feel. I said, working.
Speaker 17 (26:43):
Hands to work, not God, working hands.
Speaker 9 (26:48):
To please, the working hands work on me.
Speaker 7 (26:56):
See got the moused my hands work. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (27:18):
Nick Andrew Staver on the local show The River ninety
seventy three with his song working Hands. I bet he
never thought that he would be part of a Rush
tribute episode. We were just that was a play on
words for the song working Man that Brandon came up
with working hands, right, like I said, you know, digging
for some songs to fit the theme. Nick, congratulations, But yeah,
(27:43):
I don't know if you thought you'd be on the
Rush themed episode with your single working hands, but great
song it is. And working hands do do work. You
know that's a fact. And you thought that was a
stretch of the title. Wait until you hear the next one,
which is coming up after this song. This is a
bona fide, actual cover of an actual Rush song. That's right.
(28:03):
This is from the District Modern Band on April fifth performance.
This is a band of teenagers that was formed there
for the District Modern Band concert. They call themselves Aurora,
and this is their cover of Limelight. It's the local
show in the river ninety seven to three.
Speaker 4 (28:46):
States, save the unreal.
Speaker 14 (28:50):
They feel in touch with some reality beyond the unity.
Speaker 9 (29:04):
Than you.
Speaker 4 (29:09):
Shall sat almost.
Speaker 9 (29:12):
Up so.
Speaker 4 (29:18):
Living like the first stream. Oh don't wish to see.
Speaker 7 (29:28):
Those wish.
Speaker 4 (29:31):
Must not side be a make.
Speaker 14 (29:34):
Shifts and make shot really see that I be they
the fishine mascot in the camera eye. I have no
(29:58):
answer that I can't present a stranger.
Speaker 19 (30:02):
It is a long waitty bread thou. Then they give
(30:27):
the limelight the most.
Speaker 4 (30:30):
Stream wish to see.
Speaker 9 (30:35):
Go to a st.
Speaker 14 (30:39):
Body side and they shut dead on the beast, and
they shut really shot beyond that.
Speaker 9 (30:49):
I ba.
Speaker 4 (31:35):
The begain the line by gave.
Speaker 14 (31:38):
You the botto those fish to see those awash your
fee you must put side and they shut get on
the past and they shut three really shot see und I?
(32:00):
All right?
Speaker 2 (32:34):
That is Aurora, a youth band covering Rush Limelight that
is not an easy song to cover, and that was
performed and recorded live actually on April fifth, so that
recording is all live. So wait to go Aurora for sure.
That includes Brent Brossman and Ellie Reiner on vocals, Alex
Barra and Liam Greedy on guitar, Elliott Holmes on keys,
(32:56):
Hans Libelsberger on drums, and Ryan Masanti on bass. Fantastic
and the Central Pennsylvania Music Hall of Fame is all
about supporting youth music programs. Yes, we do a lot
with youth music education and our youth All Star band
as well. We also do a youth music showcase. You know.
That's what justifies the Central Pennsylvania Music Hall of Fame
(33:18):
as a five oh one C three nonprofit is our
educational services that we help provide to kids and teens
in the area. And we were actually a sponsor there
of that District Modern Band, so of that concert, so
you never know, We're always listening and you never know
when your recording is going to get played on the radio.
How about that? So let's move on. This is our
(33:39):
final song of our Rush theme. So that was an
actual Rush song. This is not a Rush song. But Brandon,
why don't you tell everybody how you arrived at this one?
Speaker 18 (33:49):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (33:49):
I mean you know, you got to dig through the
song titles or the references and how does something relate
to the theme. This one literally has the word rush
in title, right, Yeah, loosely right, I mean you gotta
dig for it a little bit. The word rush is
in the word crush, that's true. And you can't spell
(34:11):
crush without rush. And it's a cover of a Little
Big Town song. It's called girl Crush. This is Hailstorm,
Central Pennsylvania Music Hall of Famers Hailstorm with their cover
of Little Big, Little Big Town's Girl Crush. Enjoy it's
the local show of the River ninety seventh three.
Speaker 20 (34:38):
I've got a girl crush.
Speaker 4 (34:42):
Heto in bead and Bud.
Speaker 12 (34:47):
I got a rushing slow in dun.
Speaker 7 (34:55):
That got it reumb.
Speaker 4 (35:00):
On everything she has.
Speaker 12 (35:04):
That's smiling then me now left, she's giving you live.
Speaker 7 (35:13):
Thou wanta tas.
Speaker 2 (35:18):
Yeah.
Speaker 12 (35:18):
Because they tastes, nag you thou.
Speaker 20 (35:23):
Want to drown myself in the battle of her.
Speaker 21 (35:30):
Fun and down on her long blonde here and now
on her mady touch, Yeah, cousin may be there.
Speaker 20 (35:45):
You want me to tas much. I gotta girl, girls,
I gotta go her.
Speaker 22 (36:00):
Oh gosh, that's on't gat no sleep.
Speaker 4 (36:12):
I can get no peace thinking of that.
Speaker 12 (36:21):
Under you, where that she's wee burn, where that she's.
Speaker 4 (36:31):
Pull you in.
Speaker 12 (36:34):
Lord knows ou tried. I can't get her off my mind.
And they on seas lifts eckles, they tease you and
dou on a tread mysive in the battle of her perfew.
Speaker 21 (37:01):
I want her long down here, I want her mad.
Speaker 4 (37:08):
Touch you calls may be there.
Speaker 6 (37:14):
You don't need stands much. I got into crush. I
gotta girl try, Yeah.
Speaker 10 (37:34):
Yeah, I gotta crush.
Speaker 4 (37:40):
Het tu in bead bede. I gotta had rush. It's
so window.
Speaker 2 (37:53):
Lizzie hail can sing anything. She's so good. That's a
great song though to Little Big Town Girl Crush, as
performed live by Hailstorm. We said it was a stretch,
but you got it right. Rush is in there. I
mean Rush is in the title. I can only take
so much USh Girl, see Rush. There you go. That
(38:13):
wraps up our Rush themed episode tonight. Because we were
both giddy, and so were a lot of people giddy,
not geeddy, giddy over the announcement that Getty and Alex
are touring as Rush next year. We never thought it
would happen. They said it would never happen. But you know,
it's been ten years since they played live with Neil.
(38:34):
They played at the Taylor Hawkins Benefit, and I think
that's what started this conversation. Neil has been gone now
for five years, which is hard to believe. And those
guys are players, that's what they do. They're professional musicians.
They wrote and performed all this music for fifty years,
so by god, it's rock and roll. Never say never.
They can do whatever the heck they want, and obviously
(38:56):
there's huge, huge demand. Tickets go on sale this week,
you're listening on the podcast, already on sale. They might
already be sold out. They might be yeah, even with
the pre sale already. I think you have to sign
up for a city card in order to be eligible.
On the tenth, yeah, and then the artist pre sale,
I think is like the thirteenth, and they go on
sale this week a general book like if they're still available,
(39:16):
I think it's somewhere, they'll be gone in minutes. So anyway,
thanks so much for listening, Brandon. How can people get
their music submitted for a future episode of the Local Show? Yes,
we'd like to hear your original music here or a
cover on the Local Show in the River ninety seven
to three. You can submit your track for consideration for
airplay by going to cpmhof dot com slash radio click
(39:41):
the link and we'll we'll review your track and get
it on the show when we can. Sounds good man,
and don't forget we also do a podcast, so if
you're not already, you should follow The River Local Show
on the iHeartRadio app now that you can listen to
all three of the seasons that we have up there.
Season three in progress. US and I put up the
(40:02):
episodes around lunchtime on Monday, so if you subscribe though,
then you'll get an alert, You get a notification that hey,
the new episode just drops, so definitely do that. For
Brandon Valentine, I'm Glenn Hamilton. Thank you so much for
supporting local music by listening to us on the radio
every Sunday night at eight o'clock right here on the river,
ninety seven to three. But of course, the best way
(40:23):
you can support local music is to follow these artists
on their social medias and go out and see them
play a live local show.
