Speaker 1 (00:00):
Let's get to today's Stop Stories with Natalie Rodriguez. Good morning, Natalie,
Good morning.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
The White House is considering a proposal which would extend
Affordable Care actcepsidies to help those who buy health insurance
for two more years. Congressman Carlosi Menez joined Fox Businesses
Varney and Company, saying that he wants the subsidies to
be extended for the American people.

Speaker 3 (00:22):
We shouldn't let the American people hold the bag on
a really bad law, and law was the Affordable Care Act,
which turns out to be the Unaffordable Care Act. So
we need to extend it so that the American people
aren't holding the bag and then fix it. We need
to fix the Unaffordable Care Act.

Speaker 2 (00:39):
Which is a good point that not a lot of
politicians actually say on either side of the aisle. Polling
suggesting that a clear majority of Americans do, in fact
have a favorable view of the healthcare law, including sixty
four percent of independence even thirty six percent of Republicans
according to the Kaiser Family Foundation. Now, the Senate is
set to vote next month on extending those subsidies.

Speaker 1 (01:02):
Yeah, there are a lot of people, especially in South
Florida who are relying on the Obamacare marketplace and those subsidies.
Florida's one of, if not the leading state when it
comes to the amount of people on Obamacare. I always
thought that was probably the most sensible way to go
about this, because, look, there isn't a plan to reform

(01:26):
it or fix it that anybody is ready to pass
right now. So while you're working on it, you know,
if Republicans go into twenty twenty six and these premiums
start skyrocketing for a lot of their voters because those
subsidies ended, could be a problem for them. In November,

(01:46):
we talked to Senator Rick Scott yesterday during the show
about his plan to reform and fix Obamacare, which is
notable in and of itself, And I asked them about this.
You know, for years it was repeal and replace. Now
that's kind of gone by the wayside. Now it's like, well,
we're going to fix it up, which I thought was interesting.
He explained why and talked about what his plan would do.

And look, I don't want to get too into the
weeds here. I think we need to get rid of
all these networks and nonsense. Like I want an Amazon
like setup right where I can see ratings and reviews
and actual prices for everything that's not urgent, like not

(02:42):
an emergency. You know, if you're having a heart attack,
you don't have time to shop around. Okay, so I
get that, But you know, for basic care.

Speaker 5 (02:49):
Any kind of tests or like an elective procedure, anything
like that if I'm feeling.

Speaker 1 (02:54):
Under the weather or I need a physical, just some
kind of an idea and some kind of senses to
who is decent in the area and who maybe is it?

Speaker 4 (03:04):
Like, is that like so much to ask for?

Speaker 1 (03:08):
I guess so the interests are too entrenched to get
something like that done. All right?

Speaker 4 (03:13):
What else is going on?

Speaker 2 (03:14):
Natalie Mimi Day College Board of Trustees voting unanimously to
donate that downtown and Miami piece of land valued at
sixty seven million bucks to the state to go ahead
and build the Donald J. Trump Presidential Library. College President
Madeline Pumarriega says it is a smart move.

Speaker 6 (03:31):
The benefits to the community will be for a long time,
economic benefits, educational benefits, specially for our students to be
able to do internships and have opportunities.

Speaker 2 (03:42):
Opponents still argue that the land next to the Freedom
Tower is worth too much to give away to the
Trump family, and injunction request is going to court in August,
and we still have that lawsuit from a historian and activist,
doctor Marvin Dunn, that's still in motion.

Speaker 1 (03:57):
What I think is so interesting about this is if
you were to pull President Trump aside and say what
do you think about this deal the state made, he'd
be like, that's a horrible deal. Like they didn't get.

Speaker 4 (04:08):
Anything for it.

Speaker 1 (04:09):
Are you kidding me? That's valuable land. They got nothing
for kind of negotiation was that? But look, I think
Presidential Library there is certainly going to be a lot
of people who go and check that out.

Speaker 4 (04:20):
There's no question about traffic. Yeah, that'ch traffic.

Speaker 1 (04:23):
All right, Let's get to my favorite story of the morning.

Speaker 4 (04:27):
Mine too.

Speaker 2 (04:27):
If ever there was a spirit animal, I may have
found mine.

Speaker 4 (04:32):
Legit.

Speaker 2 (04:33):
This is like a scene from my twenty first birthday.
A raccoon taken into custody drunk as a skunk. This
little guy was taken into sober up. He fell through
one of the ceiling tiles in a Virginia liquor store
and ransacked a whole aisle, full.

Speaker 4 (04:52):
Blown rampage caught on camera.

Speaker 2 (04:55):
He then passes out on the bathroom floor.

Speaker 4 (04:58):
I mean, this little guy was drinking.

Speaker 2 (05:00):
Oh yeah, and no whatsoever, just whatsoever. He was smashing
bottles and then just crashed out on the floor. There
were buddles of alcohol all over the place. So he
was taken to a shelter that does provide veterinarian care
for homeless or.

Speaker 7 (05:20):
That he's like on the floor right next to the.

Speaker 2 (05:23):
Toy, right from all the place, yea, of all the places,
my twenty first birthday, literally and just.

Speaker 5 (05:31):
So we shared the picture and the video on our
ex at Ryan Warman Show.

Speaker 7 (05:38):
You got to see.

Speaker 1 (05:39):
It's so funny. I mean, just that raccoon got wait picture.

Speaker 7 (05:44):
Of like the broken bottles and those skilled.

Speaker 4 (05:47):
Booths the floor.

Speaker 1 (05:49):
Yeah, and officials joke they hope the masked suspect a
learned that breaking and entering is not the answer. Natalie
Rodriguez with Today's Top Stories. Natalie, thanks so much. Time
out for Today's Top story is brought to you by

Speaker 8 (06:10):
Good morning, Chris, Good morning. A Hillsboro County jury sees
dramatic video of a semi truck slamming into a strip club.
This is at the murder trial of twenty seven year
old Dylan Fogel. In August of twenty twenty four, Fogel
went to the Emperor's Gentleman's Club with his friend Anthony
Mettelski for a night of drinks and strip club fund.

(06:32):
It ended in death and Fogel's arrest for murder. State
attorneys told jurors that Fogel was angry because he and
Metelski had been kicked out and he came back and
slammed his truck into a crowd of people standing outside.
They say he had no regard for human life, and
jurors saw graphic multiple videos of a crash from several angles,
and during the playing of the video, the father of

(06:54):
one of the victims cried out and had to leave
the courtroom.

Speaker 1 (06:58):
The video from inside the truck and we've shared it,
just quick heads up, it's graphic.

Speaker 4 (07:05):
Yeah, it's hard to watch.

Speaker 1 (07:07):
You can find it on our Facebook page at Ryan
Gorman Show. I had not seen that before, but from
that angle, it is clear, even though it happened to night,
it's clear as day that this twenty seven year old
was looking to injure and potentially kill as many.

Speaker 4 (07:23):
People as possible. It's awful.

Speaker 1 (07:25):
Yeah, driving the semi truck right into that crowd in
front of the strip club and a couple of survivors
they testified they had no time to move before impact,
and when you watch the video you could see why.
I mean, he was going full speed ad right into them.
And you know, that was the story that we covered
at the time. I had kind of forgotten about it,

(07:46):
but we had that where you had a a person
driving a semi truck into a crowd outside a strip club. Then,
of course, more recently in the Tampa Bay area, we
have the situation in Ebor City. We had the twenty
two year old who was racing around being chased by
law enforcement, then veered onto seventh Avenue and slammed into
a crowd of people outside a bar there. And we

(08:08):
learn more about that suspect, Silas Sampson. He was apparently
drunk and had marijuana in his system the night that
he plowed into that crowd in Ebor City, killing four
people and injuring thirteen others. And because of those toxicology results,
he's now facing thirty six total charges.

Speaker 4 (08:28):
Oh my gosh.

Speaker 1 (08:28):
Yeah, so at least both of these individuals are it
looks like the price. Yeah, they're going to pay the price.

Speaker 8 (08:35):
So a veteran Panelas County teacher with a long history
of involvement in progressive politics has joined the growing race
to become the Democrat who will challenge Republican Anna Paulina
Luna for Congress. In twenty twenty six, fifty six year
old Timothy Brandt Robinson announced his decision to enter the
House District thirteen race. He recorded a video for Facebook

(08:59):
from a rock climbing trip in Alabama.

Speaker 1 (09:02):
One way to do it, not in fun of you know, books,
classroom setting or anything like that. Yeah, he was rock
climbing and like, you know what I'm gonna I'm gonna
enter the race.

Speaker 7 (09:11):
Not in the county where you live represent from Alabama.

Speaker 1 (09:15):
Yeah, he wanted he wanted to get that announcement.

Speaker 5 (09:18):
Rock climbing and doing some soul searching, yeah, nature and
decide he.

Speaker 7 (09:21):
Wanted to take this new path.

Speaker 4 (09:23):
He had a revelation.

Speaker 1 (09:24):
Yeah.

Speaker 8 (09:25):
So this guy has been a Panela's history teacher since
nineteen ninety eight, and he became a TikTok commenter about
the time of the COVID nineteen pandemic and was criticizing
views from groups like the Moms for Liberty organization, and
he gained national attention in twenty twenty two as one
of the educators publicly criticizing efforts to malign critical race theory.

(09:46):
He denies accusations the teachers were attempting to indoctrinate children
with woke ideology.

Speaker 1 (09:52):
Yeah, so, he joins, I think there are three others
in the race. He's got to win the primary first,
if he wants to face annapolinea Luna. That primary is
going to be August eighteenth of next year. This is
a district that President Trump won by double digits in
twenty twenty four, so it's going to be an uphill
climb for a Democrat. To win if there is some

(10:14):
kind of blue wave across the country, which is possible.
The Democrat in the race in Tennessee that special election
yesterday didn't quite get there fell I think it was
about nine percent short nine difference, but Trump won the
district by twenty two right right, So definitely some momentum
on the side of Democrats. But I think not only

(10:36):
do you need a blue wave nationally, you need a
little bit extra here in Florida, as we saw during
the last midterm election, where there were a lot of
seats that went to Democrats but kind of fell short
for Democrats here in Florida. It's just a little bit
of a different situation here. Anna Pauline A Luna is interesting.
She made some news yesterday. She filed a discharge petition

(11:00):
to basically go around House leaders to force a floor
vote on banning stock trading by members of Congress and
their immediate families. That discharge petition. That was what happened
with the Epstein files. Uh, they had to go around leadership.
So she's doing that for this and I think she'll
get enough support for it, and so we'll see where
that goes. But that's a that's a pretty popular thing

(11:22):
among you know, Democrats and Republicans stopping members of collegans.

Speaker 8 (11:26):
Yeah, I mean governor or as a senator. Rick Scott
is obviously opposed to it, but he's a big stock trader.

Speaker 1 (11:33):
Yeah. There were some by bartists in opposition. Did Nancy
Blosia never brought it to the floor for a vote.
And then last week on ax Anna, Paulina Luna had
an interesting post. She said, and I'm quoting next year,
I think I'm going to hold a contest to show
up at someone's Thanksgiving Day dinner to debate their leftist
family members. What do you think. I think that's a

(11:54):
horrible idea, and we want and we go viral.

Speaker 4 (11:58):
Yeah, it would go viral.

Speaker 1 (12:00):
I don't know though, I could see mashed potatoes and
stuff and getting thrown around, things escalating quickly.

Speaker 4 (12:06):
Yeah, yeah, great content. All right, let's get to one
more quick story, Chris.

Speaker 8 (12:11):
So beware when you challenge law enforcement with signs outside
your house. A Florida man with a message on his
doormat apparently motivated law enforcement to follow his advice. The
doormat said, come back with a warrant, and they did,
and he was arrested as part of a large scale
mortgage fraud scheme. Fifty seven year old Christopher Music of

(12:33):
Daytona Beach arrested on charges of scheming to defraud and
grand theft over one hundred thousand dollars. What he allegedly
would do is create fake documents to pose as a
real estate investor and owner of multiple business properties and
would get mortgages on these properties and then use the
money to buy more. He would rent them out, pocket

(12:55):
the cash, and then he never paid off.

Speaker 4 (12:57):
Any of the loans. Got it all right?

Speaker 1 (12:59):
Well, he had a search warrant, Yeah, executed at his home.
Then MAT's great until you actually have Warren served at
your place. And he had two outstanding warrants from Maryland too,
So yeah, that's such a Florida man story, all right.
Chris Trankman with today's top stories. Chris, thanks so much,
Thank you. First we get started with today's top stories

(13:21):
and Chris Trankman, Good morning, Chris.

Speaker 8 (13:23):
Good morning. Tampa's code enforcement director has been fired after
cashing a winning lottery ticket bought by one of his employees.
Keith O'Connor, the husband of Tampa's former top cop Mary
O'Connor was dismissed after he cashed a twenty thousand dollars
winning ticket for employee Aubrey Pierce. Now, Pierce owes child support,

(13:45):
so understated law, the proceeds from the lottery winnings would
be seized by the state. So having O'Connor cash the ticket.

Speaker 1 (13:52):
Avoid that's ridiculous.

Speaker 8 (13:56):
Now, what's interesting is how they even found out about this.
So Aubrey Pearce was under investigation by FDL for taking
bribes to allow companies to jump trash in illegal places.

Speaker 1 (14:08):
Not surprise based on his actions with this lottery ticket
and child support.

Speaker 8 (14:12):
Now, they searched phone messages and found texts between O'Connor
and Pierce laying out the whole scheme.

Speaker 4 (14:20):
Believable.

Speaker 7 (14:21):
A man, Yeah.

Speaker 1 (14:24):
Can you do me a solid?

Speaker 7 (14:25):
I don't want to have to pay child support.

Speaker 1 (14:27):
Do we know was O'Connor going to get a cut
for doing this? I mean he lost his job over
and I hope he was at least going to get like,
you know, twenty percent according to his attorney. You know
they're just friends, Oh okay, quaintance is Yeah, they had
a professional relationship that morphed into a friendship and apparently
you know, he was just doing him a favor, right right,

(14:48):
right right? And and Pierce, you know this was not
a situation. I guess where you get this, this twenty
thousand dollars lottery ticket and you say to yourself, oh boy,
now I can clear out the child support that I
owe and take care of my kid. It was no, no,
let me try to hide this money.

Speaker 8 (15:02):
Yeah, because he's heading to hard rocks right right.

Speaker 1 (15:05):
And and uh, like you said.

Speaker 4 (15:08):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (15:09):
Keith O'Connor is the husband of former Tampa Police Chief
Mary O'Connor, who had to resign a couple of years ago.
She used her badge to try to get out of
a golf cart traffic stop. And here is how that
all unfolded. This is audio from the body cam footage
of that incident.

Speaker 5 (15:29):
Stops you because you unrest a vehicle with no tag
on it on the roadway.

Speaker 1 (15:33):
Yeah, we were.

Speaker 2 (15:34):
We went to the club. It was closed, so we
went over and picked up some is.

Speaker 8 (15:38):
Your camera on.

Speaker 7 (15:41):
I'm the police team in Tampa.

Speaker 5 (15:43):
Okay, I'm hoping that you'll.

Speaker 7 (15:47):
Just okay, I say, you let familiar yourself.

Speaker 4 (15:53):
Yeah, I'm sure, all.

Speaker 7 (15:55):
Right, Then we'll take care of and uh, there's let's
meet you all right? Oh, all right, lottery tickets cash.

Speaker 1 (16:07):
The O'Connors, I don't know them, but they sound like idiots.
You got the one who's texting back and forth this
whole scheme, and then you got her. Is your camera on? Yeah, okay,
let me just proceed. We're trying to pull this off,
saying you know who I am?

Speaker 4 (16:22):
I mean, what are they thinking? Yeah?

Speaker 8 (16:25):
You know it's ironic too. Is Pierce the guy that
got O'Connor in trouble and the lottery ticket thing. He's
been suspended. He's still still on the job. Yeah, all right,
what else is going on?

Speaker 4 (16:37):
Chris So?

Speaker 8 (16:37):
Drivers on the Howard Franklin Bridge will have to slow
down after an announcement from the Florida Department of Transportation.
F dodd says it's lowering the speed limit in two
construction zones effective next week. The first is IQ seventy
five from thirty eighth Street North to fourth Street North,
and then the second zone is the bridge from between

(16:59):
Pinelos and Hillsboro County the bridge itself, Yeah, the actual bridge.
So one of the reasons is that with the opening
of the new lanes on the new bridge. They're wider,
they are you know, brand new and smooth, and apparently
drivers are just using that as a reason to just,
you know, put the pedal to the metal.

Speaker 4 (17:18):
Have you guys experienced this driving back and forth.

Speaker 7 (17:21):
Yeah, I realized I was going a little too fast.

Speaker 4 (17:24):
Oh yeah, people go fast and I was getting passed too.

Speaker 8 (17:27):
Really, Oh yeah, there's some people were speeding by the
problem though, is that there's still a lot of construction, yeah,
on the bridge itself, and I think what's going on
is that, you know, there're state troopers out there monitoring that,
and they're probably reporting all of these speeders going by
these these construction areas, and it makes it dangerous if
you're going way above the speed limit. So they're going
to lower it to fifty five on the bridge, which

(17:48):
I doubt very many people are going to follow, but
I suppose it's better than having it, say sixty, where
you know, the people were going eighty.

Speaker 1 (17:55):
I go with the flow of traffic, so you know,
if the flow is going about five to ten over, yeah,
then generally that's kind of where I'm until.

Speaker 4 (18:04):
You get in the left lane and somebody's going forty five. Yeah, Yeah,
then there's a real problem.

Speaker 8 (18:09):
Now.

Speaker 1 (18:09):
The only issue I have here is I don't know
how this is gonna work. They got to make it
super noticeable, because I hate when you've got these roads
where you feel like you can go all right a highway, Yeah,
and it goes from sixty five to fifty five to
forty five like the veterans. Sometimes it's like that in
certain spots where it drops really quick and then all

(18:30):
of a sudden they nail you in that slower speed
limit zone.

Speaker 4 (18:33):
Sounds like you have experience with this, I know what
I'm talking about it.

Speaker 5 (18:39):
And there's those curves too where you're going on the
bridge that people seem to have a little bit of
a hard time navigating.

Speaker 4 (18:44):
But I don't know if this affects that. Yeah, well,
I think it does.

Speaker 8 (18:47):
But the problem though, is that will people follow this,
you know, in the times when there's not a lot
of traffic, right, because that's when you really have the
maiden speeding. Yeah, five o'clock in the afternoon now when
I'm on the bridge, basically when there's heavy traffic during
the daytime, I mean fifty five.

Speaker 4 (19:02):
Moving it down?

Speaker 7 (19:03):
Really go that fast anyway?

Speaker 4 (19:04):
Yeah, exactly.

Speaker 8 (19:05):
I mean people try to for sure, and how much
can you enforce when everybody's really speeding the entire way.
But the point is that they are aware that it's
become an issue since they've opened up the new lanes.
People just feel like it's so I mean, you don't
even notice how loud it is because the road is
brand new. It's so smooth, so you can literally be
going seventy five or eighty and not really realize it.

(19:26):
And I wonder we haven't seen any information on whether
or not the expanded lanes has eased congestion.

Speaker 1 (19:34):
Have we?

Speaker 4 (19:34):
I haven't heard any reports, because that was like the
whole thing.

Speaker 1 (19:37):
We need to expand the bridge in order to help
with with traffic, especially those busy times. I haven't seen
anything saying one way or another whether or not it's
their commute.

Speaker 7 (19:46):
Time has decreased by five minutes or anything.

Speaker 8 (19:49):
That'd be a question for the rush hour drive. Yeah,
because that's what it's really for. It didn't affect my commute. Obviously,
are people who are in the off peak times because
it's just not that much different. But it was clearly
designed for the times when the most cars are on
the road. Yeah, and it probably is going to take
a few more studies before we know that for sure.
A Palm Harbor Middle school teacher critically injured after a

(20:10):
lightning strike with his friend while they were mountain biking
in Peru during the Thanksgiving holiday. James Fernandez, his wife,
and their five month old baby were on vacation in
Peru with Yuri Botello, his wife and their baby. Botello
was killed in the lightning strike, but the guide was
able to get help for Fernandez, but he's in terrible shape.

(20:31):
The forty one year old suffered neck fractures and injury
to his spinal cord and he's undergone emergency surgery in
Peru and they are trying to raise money to get
him transported back to Tampa for further treatment.

Speaker 1 (20:46):
A horrible incident, and this follows We had a stretch
this year where there were a number of different lightning
strikes that impacted people here in Florida and in other states,
a couple of strange ones in like I think it
was New Jersey.

Speaker 4 (20:59):
Yeah, but we really haven't had a problem with lightning
because we haven't had any rain.

Speaker 1 (21:04):
I mean a little bit yesterday, but we certainly haven't
had thunderstorms in a while here.

Speaker 8 (21:07):
Yeah, Fernandez apparently it was big into the outdoors and
actually was a guide in Spanish speaking countries, but was
also a teacher in the Tampa Bay area, and so
he was an experienced outdoorsman. Yeah, so this was not
something that you would expect to happen. But of course,
if you're on a bike going downhill on a dangerous
pathway and lightning strikes nearby or strikes you and your friend,

(21:31):
obviously this is what happened, and this is why he's
in such serious shape. Hopefully he'll get the treatment that
he needs and you know, he can recover from this,
but it does look like he was seriously injured by
the lightning strike.

Speaker 1 (21:43):
All right, Chris Strengthman with today's top stories. Chris, thanks
so much.

Speaker 4 (21:46):

We all saw ourselves in them as they searched for fulfillment in life, sex and friendships. Now, Kristin Davis wants to connect with you, the fans, and share untold stories and all the behind the scenes. Together, with Kristin and special guests, what will begin with Sex and the City will evolve into talks about themes that are still so relevant today. "Are you a Charlotte?" is much more than just rewatching this beloved show, it brings the past and the present together as we talk with heart, humor and of course some optimism.
