Speaker 1 (00:00):
Let's go to the highline and bring in the publisher
of Florida Politics, Peter Sure. You can check out all
of his work and all of his team supporting at Florida.

Speaker 2 (00:07):
Politics dot com.

Speaker 1 (00:08):
And that's also where you can sign up for the
Sunburn newsletter, so you get the latest in your inbox
first thing every morning. And Peter, I hear you've got
a bit of a scoop in there this morning.

Speaker 3 (00:18):
A little bit of a scoop before we settle down
for the holidays. Not unexpectedly, Governor Ron DeSantis is weighing
in and he is endorsing Blaze Agnolia for Florida CFO.
Of course, he appointed Blaze, so that makes sense. But
he also appointed Jay Collins to Lieutenant governor and hasn't
offered an endorsement there for him going into twenty twenty six.

(00:40):
So it now shapes up where we have Blaze endorsed
by DeSantis. Kevin Steele wants to run and be endorsed
by Donald Trump. So there's still a little bit of
an interesting primary shaping up in Florida for twenty twenty six.

Speaker 1 (00:54):
And then you mentioned Lieutenant Governor Jay Collins. A moment
ago I saw you Lieutenant governor. Governor DeSantis kind of
getting into a bit of a back and forth on
X What happened?

Speaker 4 (01:08):
Oh my goodness.

Speaker 3 (01:09):
I'm sitting there watching the Bucks game, and you know,
I have my rule where I don't tweet during football,
and we try to stick by that. But he took
exception to a story we posted about how Ron DeSantis.
It goes into the previous thing. We're talking about how
Ronda Santis no showed on a town hall that he

(01:30):
said he was going to be at and I and
both DeSantis and Colin said this was a fabrication. And
then I had the audio clip where Colin says, joined
me for a town hall with Ron DeSantis.

Speaker 4 (01:42):
I'm like, where is the lie here?

Speaker 3 (01:44):
And so he and the online Desanta's army are coming
at me. Then you know, on Monday, I get into
it with the other gubernatorial contender, Beings Fishback. We had
some reporting that exposed that he's registered in both Washington,
D C. And in Florida and is very likely not
eligible to run for governor, that he hasn't lived here
long enough. So he starts coming at me. And I've

(02:07):
been telling my friends. Number one, I love the attention
on Twitter. It's always good for clicks. But I'm like,
I've also been telling people. I'm like, they do know
that I'm not running for governor, right, And I just
I don't. This goes to one of your number one
points that you've been making for a couple of years.
These folks are two online, Jay Collins, James Fishback, et cetera.

(02:28):
They think that the primary is going to be one
on X, Twitter, TikTok, et cetera.

Speaker 4 (02:33):
And it's not all right.

Speaker 1 (02:34):
I've got a couple of things that i want to
run through again. We're joined by the publisher of Florida Politics,
Peter Shosh. Let me start with James Fishback, because in
his response to you, he indicates that there is polling
that shows him ahead of Byron Donald's in the Republican
primary for governor. If that's the case, then pigs have flown.

(02:59):
I do not believe that for one second. What is
this guy talking about?

Speaker 4 (03:03):
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (03:04):
I hate giving this guy even, I mean, even this
much credit.

Speaker 4 (03:09):
You know what I mean?

Speaker 3 (03:09):
Like this is, you know, when we talk about Jay Collins,
I actually feel a little bad because he is a
decorated war veteran he was a state senator. You know,
he does these you know, some considerable charity work. You know,
Fishback is one of these crypto bros that he's got
all sorts not just the residency issues, but he's got
all sorts of like sexual HARAFSMN issues that he was

(03:31):
suited by. We did some reporting on that that he
was dating some underage girl and then ended up there
was an injunction filed for all sorts.

Speaker 4 (03:40):
Of crazy stuff.

Speaker 3 (03:41):
And if you look on Land, there seems to be
more and more of this out about him.

Speaker 4 (03:46):
And so now he is he is just.

Speaker 3 (03:51):
I guess he believes that his way to beating by
winning the nomination.

Speaker 4 (03:55):
Is through Byron Donalds.

Speaker 3 (03:56):
And I will say it's kind of gross some of
the overtly racist commentary that he makes about just in
general and directed at Byron Donalds.

Speaker 4 (04:08):
I'm telling you this is a really bad actor.

Speaker 3 (04:10):
Again, I hate even elevating his name out so that
you know, anybody that's listening to us this morning, maybe
they go and like search for him or something like that.

Speaker 4 (04:17):
I'm hoping that.

Speaker 3 (04:19):
He stays in you know, single digits and we don't
have to pay too much attention. Unfortunate problem part is
he does seem to just like setting himself on fire
to draw attention.

Speaker 1 (04:29):
Yeah, one thing if people are gonna google him, they
should google is fishback Donald's slave, because he made some
pretty awful comments. Can you give us just a general
idea of what he said?

Speaker 3 (04:44):
He? I mean, he keeps using slavery toms to describe
Byron Donalds. He says that he is a slave to
his donors. And it's just like there's so many other
words you can say, beholden that he you know, there's
just so much else. He knows what he's doing. He
posted pictures of the Confederate monuments on Monday or yes,

(05:05):
on Monday, So it's like he knows that he's appealing
to the worst parts of the Republican Party. And so
I just I think, you know what, We've got another
Anthony Sabatini Berricker running here, and we didn't do anything
to stop him the last time. I'm kind of determined
to expose this person for the bad actor he is.
We're joined by the publisher of Florida Politics, Peter Shorsch.

(05:26):
Now real quick back to Lieutenant Governor Jay Collins. I mean,
it is kind of strange that you know, now he's
taking shots at Byron Donald's wife's charter school, yet he's
not getting in the race, and Governor DeSantis isn't backing him,
Like what is going on? I it is amazing to

(05:49):
me that we are going to probably get to the
end of the year and Jay Collins will not have
announced for governor.

Speaker 4 (05:54):
Because he's got maybe seven or eight more days to
do it.

Speaker 3 (06:00):
I mean, unless you know, this was a guy that
was gonna he was going to announce on Veterans Day.
There's a guy that you know, I had to be
talked off of that he's gonna jump out of a helicopter.
Maybe he announces on Christmas Eve or something like that.
But he just he's so struggling to raise money that
there just isn't any It's.

Speaker 4 (06:20):
Also it's just whine.

Speaker 3 (06:21):
It's clear that Ronda Santis is just kind of I guess,
like just kind of giving up on him. That he's
still he's still as a lieutenant governor, but he's just
like he's just not into him.

Speaker 4 (06:32):
It's kind of sad and.

Speaker 3 (06:34):
So I which makes the part that you're bringing up
really said that he's now stunk down to this level
where he's trashing Erica Donald's a school choice advocate.

Speaker 4 (06:45):
Through and through that, he's getting.

Speaker 3 (06:47):
Into that kind of thing, that kind of back and
forth with the wife of a candidate. This is just
it's ugly for Jay Collins. He's kind of he's really,
I hate to say when he's just he's dishonoring himself,
and that believes so much in the virtue of honor
is really dishonoring himself at this point.

Speaker 1 (07:04):
Last thing I want to touch on this brewing battle
between Governor DeSantis and President Trump on AI regulation. Basically,
the President is saying states need to hold off on
implementing any of their own regulations.

Speaker 2 (07:19):
We're going to do this at the federal level.

Speaker 1 (07:22):
But his plan seems to be an executive order, and
I don't think the president has the power to do
that with just the stroke of a pen. Congress doesn't
seem ready to act. I gotta tell you, I think
I'm team DeSantis on this one. Until DC can get
attacked together, Florida should be able to take the lead
on this issue.

Speaker 3 (07:39):
You and I talked many times about how Ron DeSantis
has a nose for this stuff better than anyone, and
that's why I wanted to talk with you about it
is because he smells where this is going to be.
He's trying to position himself contrat jd Vance. You know,
Trump and jd are pro AI DeSantis. He's kind of
recognizing that in two years there's gonna be a lot

(08:01):
of disruption because of AI. If he's got a track
record as being one of the people that fought at AI,
just like he fought COVID vaccines and all that stuff,
you know what, maybe it is a It is a
way for him to run again in twenty eight If
this is the big dominant movement force in American society
and he's on the right side of it, that's a pathway.

Speaker 4 (08:24):
In twenty eight.

Speaker 2 (08:26):
Interesting.

Speaker 1 (08:26):
