Speaker 1 (00:00):
A grand jury in Virginia indicted New York Attorney General
Letitia James on mortgage fraud charges. The US Attorney for
the Eastern District of Virginia, Lindsay Halligan, presented evidence against
her having to do with the twenty twenty three mortgage
that James took out to help her niece by a
home in Norfolk. Her indictment comes after the newly appointed
(00:21):
Halligan hit former FBI Director James Comey with the indaman
last month, and both indictments follow public pressure by the
President for them to be prosecuted. James said this in
response to the charges.
Speaker 2 (00:32):
This is nothing more than a continuation of the President's
desperate weaponization of our justice system. These charges are baseless,
and the president's own public statements make clear that his
only goal is political retribution.
Speaker 1 (00:48):
At any cost.
Speaker 2 (00:49):
We will fight these baseless charges aggressively, and my office
will continue to fiercely protect New Yorkers and their rights,
and I will continue to do my job.
Speaker 1 (01:00):
So last year, James won a multimillion dollar civil fraud
trial against Trump. Here's the problem, James Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg.
They had a target in Donald Trump and were in
search of a crime, something to get him on, and
I said it was wrong at the time. That's not
how the justice system is supposed to work. That's weaponizing it.
(01:22):
Now you got Trump doing the same thing. He had
targets for retribution Comy and James, and he pressured his
Department of Justice to find something to get them on.
That's not how any of this should work. Now. I
do think the case against Comy is weak and I
don't think the Department of Justice could win it. This
one a little bit different, but definitely not a slam
dunk for prosecutors. So we reported yesterday Public's confirmed it's
(01:46):
going to allow open kerry inside Florida stores following an appeals
court ruling that did away with Florida's open carry band.
They did note that anyone acting threatening or erratic will
be reported to the police. But the policy differs from
what we're seeing with other stories. Walmart and Dixie Target
they are not going to allow open cary. Guns must
stay concealed or off site unless you're law enforcement. Now
(02:08):
Costco they don't allow firearms at all, open or concealed
except authorized law enforcement officers. Members have to agree to
that policy when they sign the membership agreement. Naturally, big
reaction to the announcement by Public News Channel. It'spoked to
some people in Tampa Bay area. This is what Marianne
from Lake Wales said.
Speaker 2 (02:27):
I think if I was in a situation in a
store where I saw a gun, it definitely would intimidate me.
Speaker 1 (02:34):
Ashley from Tampa echoed the same concerns.
Speaker 2 (02:37):
So it's is that warm, welcoming place where you know,
you bring.
Speaker 1 (02:40):
Your kids and get cookies at the bakery. It just
it's a little wild, a little strange. But David from
Lake Wales is okay with it.
Speaker 3 (02:46):
I think we live in a time where deterrence is important,
and I think if somebody's looking to cause trouble somewhere
and they realize that, hey, there's somebody here with a firearm,
might get them.
Speaker 1 (02:58):
The second thought, I still don't think this is something
you're going to see very frequently in stores, And I
think Paul Kunty Sheriff Grady Judd made a great point recently.
If you're a gun owner and you're trying to protect
yourself or your family, it's better to conceal carriers and
the back guys don't know you're armed and they don't
see you coming. The Ryan Gorman Show on NewsRadio WFLA.
