Speaker 2 (00:10):
Good morning Read, Good morning, Ryan and Dana, welcome back.
Good to see you.
Speaker 1 (00:14):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (00:14):
I'm gonna start, I think with kind of like a
little bit of a silver lining with respect to the
government show.
Speaker 3 (00:19):
Nice. I'd like to see these kinds of things. I
like this.
Speaker 1 (00:21):
We're a very positive show, so it's great to have
it positive.
Speaker 2 (00:26):
It's good news all the time, but in this case,
it really is feeding. Tampa Bay is really stepping up,
especially uh, you know, like over at the airport to
help out with the like the workers who are facing
some time without a paycheck. Uh, They're they're stepping in there,
planning an additional side at the airport to help employees
(00:48):
with groceries.
Speaker 3 (00:49):
It's working.
Speaker 2 (00:49):
They're working with Tico Energy to alleviate utility bills. The
Crisis Center of Tampa Bay is also getting involved. They're
going to be offering some like some emotional okay. Also
metropolitan ministries, you know, they're you know everybody knows who
Metropolitan Ministries is.
Speaker 3 (01:07):
Everybody in the Tampa Bay are.
Speaker 1 (01:08):
Yeah, and these kinds of organizations they exist throughout the state,
including in South Florida.
Speaker 3 (01:12):
They're all stepping up.
Speaker 1 (01:13):
And you know, for some of these federal workers who
you know aren't making big bucks. They don't own the
stock that members of Congress.
Speaker 4 (01:22):
Yeah, I think people think government job like a cushy
government and that's not true.
Speaker 3 (01:26):
It's not not all of them.
Speaker 1 (01:28):
And so you know, not having a paycheck for who
knows how long this thing is going to go on for.
I don't think it's going to go on that long.
But it's not going to wrap up, you know, today
or tomorrow. I don't think, you know, it puts a
financial strain on them. It's it's concerning. I mean, imagine
if you were having to go in to work every
day and you weren't getting paid for it.
Speaker 3 (01:46):
You'll get paid eventually, but you don't know when that'll be.
Speaker 5 (01:49):
That's scary.
Speaker 3 (01:50):
Yeah, it is.
Speaker 1 (01:51):
I mean, I will say it does feel like sometimes
we're doing a lot of work.
Speaker 3 (01:55):
Enough and not getting back paid for it.
Speaker 1 (01:57):
But you know what I'm saying, So these organization there
to support those workers.
Speaker 2 (02:01):
They are and it's it's great and I want to
give their you know, get them their props for doing something,
like I said, kind of a silver lining.
Speaker 3 (02:09):
This is.
Speaker 2 (02:09):
It's a rough situation. It's you know, kind of a
tough story to get a handle on. But these folks
are doing some good work. Hey remember Madison Madison Cawthorne. Yeah,
can we forget oh boy, esteemed members of Congress back
in the day. Yeah, Well, apparently he wants to run
for Congress again. Now here's the thing. All Madison was
(02:33):
from North Carolina back in twenty twenty two. When he
was defeated in the North Carolina primary, that's the last
we heard from him.
Speaker 3 (02:42):
Well, guess what. He moved to Cape Coral. Nice. Yeah,
so he's.
Speaker 2 (02:47):
Got a he's got a nice house down in Cape
Coral now. And he announced in an online video on
Wednesday that he wants the seat that is currently held
by Byron Donald's, who, of course will be the Republican
candidate for governor and probably our next comany and very
that's then very possibly our next governor.
Speaker 3 (03:08):
Uh So.
Speaker 2 (03:09):
On his website, Cawthorn aligns his views very closely with
those of President Trump. Issues, immigration restrictions, gun rights, pushing
against the all the woke ideology. So Madison Cawthorne back
in the news now, if you don't remember Cawthorn, he
kind of became a very much of a leading figure
(03:32):
for Trump's America First policies.
Speaker 1 (03:36):
I would call him a clown. That's what I remember
about Madison Cawthorne. Somebody who had no business being in Congress.
I remember what I don't know. Yeah, very young, read,
lots of stuff like that, that kind of guy. Yeah,
accusations of of drug use, just you know, craziness. And
(03:58):
I remember when he got there, he made a big
deal about the fact that his comms team was bigger
than his legislative team in his congressional office, which tells
you all you need to.
Speaker 4 (04:09):
Know, Like it's all about like just publicity.
Speaker 1 (04:12):
Yeah, yeah, he's exactly the person who will fix that
healthcare problem that I was just telling me about.
Speaker 3 (04:16):
I'm sure he's got all the plans laid out.
Speaker 2 (04:18):
But to see the thing of it is that you
do have to take into consideration is that that district
down in southwest Florida, Cape Coral, Fort Myers, very very
heavily Republican, so maybe you don't want to write this
guy off.
Speaker 1 (04:32):
You can write these people off who have a lot
of publicity and name recognition, no question.
Speaker 3 (04:37):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (04:37):
So I saw this one yesterday and I kind of
looked at it and I went, are you kidding me?
Speaker 3 (04:43):
Oh see, I looked at it and said, now I
can understand that.
Speaker 2 (04:46):
So, okay, So this was over at Palm Coast, and
what you have is you got a guy who was
going one hundred and seven miles an hour. I'm not
really sure on which highway, but he said when he
was finally pulled over, and I've seen the video of
the police chase, that he had an appointment with his barber.
Speaker 3 (05:06):
Well, you know, I.
Speaker 4 (05:07):
Had to get his hair done, and you got to
get your hair done, and it's a mess.
Speaker 5 (05:12):
You got to get there, and you.
Speaker 4 (05:13):
Got to be on time because they will cancel it
on you and they'll charge you.
Speaker 3 (05:17):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (05:17):
Recently, I remember when I grew my hair out and
I was just done with it and I needed to
get to the barber to get it fixed up. Let
me tell you what if I was running late and
I need to go one hundred and seven miles per hour.
Speaker 3 (05:27):
To get there, I would have done it.
Speaker 2 (05:28):
I could wear that cap every day. You wear that
cap every day, so I'm not sure if you got
any hair up there or not.
Speaker 3 (05:32):
I do, it's just a mess of so early and
the morning. I still wear that the hat.
Speaker 1 (05:36):
But yeah, no, I can I can under I mean, look,
I'm not condoning it, but I can understand it. There
was somebody in the Tampa Bay are an eighteen year
old doing almost one hundred and thirty on the Gandy Bridge.
Speaker 2 (05:47):
Gee, yeah, superspeeder. That was right after the super Speeder
law went into effect as a matter of fact. And yeah,
they caught him, so he qualifies. Yeah, yeah for speeder.
And he was released on bond. But he had an
appointment with his barber over in New Smyrna. So I'm
sorry to tell you that. I don't think he made it.
Speaker 1 (06:09):
No, no, but hopefully when he did get there, he
got a good cut. Yeah, it sounds like it's a
good barber if you go on that fast to get there.
Speaker 3 (06:16):
Read Shepherd.
Speaker 1 (06:17):
With today's Stop Stories read thanks so much time now
for today Stop Stories brought to you by my friends
over an onco shore for a simple, accurate, non invasive
test that texts all cancers called eight seven seven twenty
four tests now good morning, Natalie.
Speaker 6 (06:31):
Yes, at Costco parking lot in the town of Davy,
a suspect now under arrest. The victim says that Raphael
Xavier just waved a gun at him and then shot
the rear tire on his suv.
Speaker 5 (06:43):
I think it's too many idiots with guns that don't
know what they're doing with the guns.
Speaker 1 (06:47):
Like, he definitely should not have a gun because there's
no such thing as motor shots.
Speaker 3 (06:51):
If I was such a good to him, I should
not be here.
Speaker 6 (06:53):
He does admit that he kind of went over the
stop sign, and you know, he wasn't exactly following traffic etiquette.
But witnesses did record the confrontation on cell phone video,
and police were able to track down the gunman soon after.
Speaker 3 (07:07):
Fortunately no one was hurt. Yeah, he fired a warning,
I took out the guy's tire.
Speaker 5 (07:11):
Oh my gosh.
Speaker 1 (07:13):
Yeah, a scary situation. This is the third one that
we've done this week. This is the first one where
it's gotten to the point where shots were fired and
luckily nobody was killed. But we were just talking about
this yesterday, Natalie, whether or not you lay on the
horn or.
Speaker 3 (07:27):
You just keep your mouth shot.
Speaker 1 (07:29):
Yeah, thank you, Well, it was it was it was
a tap of the horn. Like people have to understand
when the horn gets involved, there's different ways to communicate.
Speaker 3 (07:39):
If you're laying on it, that's more.
Speaker 4 (07:40):
Blessing, like a little punch, yeah, just like yeah right, yeah.
Speaker 1 (07:44):
Like a little tap on the shoulder like hey, I'm
behind you, move your ass like a little you know,
thing that that doesn't need to escalate to a shooting.
But this one, again, luckily nobody was killed in this incident.
Speaker 3 (07:57):
What else is going on this morning?
Speaker 6 (07:59):
Well, die off the Treasure Coast did recover a thousand
Spanish gold and silver coins valued at over a million dollars.
Now what's cool about this is that the coins were
found in the wreckage of the seventeen fifteen Spanish treasure fleet,
which was actually lost to a hurricane right off Florida's
east coast a little over three hundred years ago. So
(08:22):
these coins are going to undergo cleaning, they'll catalog them
and they will preserve them before they're added to the
historical record, and they are going to be put on
public display at local museums, which will be really cool.
Speaker 1 (08:34):
When was the last time you heard of treasure being
found in a shipwreck? A million dollars worth of it?
Speaker 3 (08:41):
Good? Big, Yeah, I saw this. I'm like, this still happens,
This is still possible. It's crazy.
Speaker 6 (08:48):
What was the guy in the goonies with the distorted face?
Speaker 1 (08:51):
He was?
Speaker 3 (08:51):
He was cool?
Speaker 5 (08:52):
Oh? Chunk, yes, chunk and sloth.
Speaker 3 (08:55):
Yes, great names. All right, let's get to one more
quick story.
Speaker 6 (08:58):
Natalie Absolutely This one a former state employee suing she
was fired for a social media repost. Now, she didn't
write anything, she simply re shared it former FWC biologist
Britney Brown. She was fired last month after that Instagram
repost about Charlie Kirk's murder. Now, according to the thirty
(09:20):
seven page lawsuit, the repost was intended as political commentary
on Kirk's controversial views regarding gun violence and school shootings.
The FWC says her post was not in line with
their values or mission. Her lawyers claimed that the firing
violated her free speech rights.
Speaker 3 (09:38):
Now something to point out here.
Speaker 6 (09:40):
The case obviously is raising some questions about free speech
boundaries for public employees, especially in this day and age
of social media. Again, her attorneys are arguing that her
termination sets a dangerous precedent of government censorship and the
suppression of dissenting viewpoints.
Speaker 3 (09:57):
Something to point.
Speaker 6 (09:58):
Out again that when she reposted, she didn't repost. She
reposted on her personal account, her personal private account.
Speaker 1 (10:07):
So I'm more sensitive to teachers getting involved in this
kind of stuff because then you worry about what they're
telling their students in the classroom. A biologist, I'm not
worried if she's sharing her thoughts on Charlie Kirk with
turtles or you know, something like that, you know, trying
to sway the dolphins to her political opinion. So this one,
I have a little bit more sympathy for her. But
(10:30):
you know, we saw in the immediate aftermath of all
of this, it was very clear that the state was
going to come down on state employees if they were
posting things that they didn't like.
Speaker 4 (10:40):
I think it's more that it just creates a bunch
of drama that they don't need, people calling her boss
and getting upset about it, Like you just don't need
that drama.
Speaker 1 (10:49):
Yeah, But the lawsuit itself, it'll be interesting to see
where this goes and if she ends up having a
case real quick before you go, Natalie, we have to
address something.
Speaker 3 (10:58):
We got a note from a listener on x Yes.
Speaker 4 (11:01):
So I go on to our ex account and check
the notifications for the first time in a week because
I've been off, and I see this at w IOD
at Ryan Gorman show.
Speaker 5 (11:10):
So is no one going to.
Speaker 4 (11:11):
Discuss fartgate that occurred on today's show? And this is yesterday.
It was clearly Ryan or the weatherman. They let it rip,
not once, but twice so on. So you're alone in
the studio Ryan with Albia, I'm not here.
Speaker 5 (11:25):
You'll think I'm alone.
Speaker 1 (11:27):
I mean, I know I was sick, but I didn't
have those kinds of issues. I actually felt pretty good yesterday.
I don't know, but this must have been like immediately
after one of our conversations, Natalie going into Ray, who
we have on the line with us right now? Ray,
you did you pass gas during one of your reports?
Speaker 3 (11:44):
Maybe it was the chair.
Speaker 1 (11:48):
Share.
Speaker 4 (11:49):
So this is the second time a different person a
couple of weeks ago said that somebody in here it
was either me, Ryan or you Ray, that somebody like
pass gas my Mike.
Speaker 5 (12:01):
I apologize.
Speaker 4 (12:03):
I said, I wonder if it was Natalie, but I
could just be like there's gotta be some type of
a noise going on or somebody hitting a microphone or something,
because I'm sure nobody's doing.
Speaker 5 (12:12):
That on the air.
Speaker 1 (12:13):
No, no, all right, well, Natalie, thank you so much
for today's stop stories and Ray. I like, I don't
even remember the the inte, Like I don't even remember
hearing anything where I'm like, what was that?
Speaker 3 (12:27):
Was that a chair?
Speaker 5 (12:28):
I guess I can go back the video.
Speaker 4 (12:31):
So I guess I can go back and listen to
the video and see if that's what I did the
last time.
Speaker 3 (12:35):
Somebody I swear I had no gas testinal problems. I
felt fine. I know there was nobody in here, and
I could like wonderup if I wanted to, but I didn't.
I want to hang up. I'm gonna test chair. I'm
gonna move around.
Speaker 1 (12:48):
But does thatll Yeah, A quick programming note, I'm off tomorrow,
read and Dana. We'll be filling in with Dana back.
We figured one show together is enough. Then we'll take
a break from each other again and then we'll regroup
next week.
Speaker 4 (13:03):
Well hopefully I don't fall apart like you did while
you're gone.
Speaker 3 (13:07):
Geez, what a mess.
Speaker 1 (13:08):
So, first of all, you're back, and it wasn't really
a relaxing vacation.
Speaker 3 (13:12):
You were moving.
Speaker 4 (13:13):
I was moving, and I have not done that much
physical activity in a very long time. Like my feet hurt,
my bag hurts, I pulled my shoulder trying to get
something out of a cabinet.
Speaker 5 (13:23):
I was lifting stuff cleaning.
Speaker 1 (13:25):
Yeah, I mean this was beyond just a simple move.
You're you're moving into a new home, which requires you know,
a lot of work and set up and all of that.
Speaker 4 (13:34):
I bought a house, so I'm moved out of a
house that I was renting, so of course I could
get that all cleaned up, so I get my security
deposit back. And actually it was funny because when the
guy came to check out the house, he's like, oh
my gosh, you did a great job cleaning. This is amazing.
And apparently they must have bad renters in most of
their houses. And he's like, this place looks beautiful. You know,
you'll have your money in a couple of days.
Speaker 3 (13:55):
You should have your money and more.
Speaker 4 (13:56):
Yeah, I know, yes, exactly, keep it so clean so
you don't have to do all the repairs. But anyway,
and I bought a new house and it needed some work,
so I had painters come in. We changed out some
light fixtures. My brother came down from Massachusetts because he
can do all that stuff. Me. Yeah, So he painted
a room for me. He painted railing, he helped me
move everything.
Speaker 5 (14:16):
It's it was.
Speaker 1 (14:17):
Exhaustingane it never called me and never asked me. I
could maybe hang a picture.
Speaker 5 (14:23):
About it, I know, but I've meant to ask you
for help.
Speaker 3 (14:25):
Now I can clean. I'm very good at cleaning. Clean.
Speaker 4 (14:30):
You're gonna come to review every two weeks and scrub
by toilets.
Speaker 3 (14:35):
Look at the studio, it's in great shape. So I
do keep things clean. So with all that work.
Speaker 2 (14:40):
So, with all that work you did, how does it
feel to not have money anymore?
Speaker 3 (14:43):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (14:43):
Oh my gosh.
Speaker 3 (14:44):
I know.
Speaker 4 (14:44):
I've got some big credit card bills. So I keep
telling myself I'm done. I'm gonna stop, and then I'll
be like, oh, I need hand towels for the front bathroom.
Speaker 1 (14:52):
You don't realize until you move, first of all, how
much crap you have that you didn't need.
Speaker 4 (14:56):
Well, there's a community yard sale on the eighteenth, so
I'm putting so much stuff aside to try to sell
the yard sale. And I already sold a couple of
things in the yard sale group and the woman told
me that the community yard sale is awesome.
Speaker 5 (15:07):
Shed a lot of people participate. She's like, you'll sell.
Speaker 4 (15:09):
A lot of stuff, and if you want a shop,
you can walk around because people sell good stuff cheap.
Speaker 1 (15:13):
And then you get into the new place and you're like,
I could use this, I can use that now. The
move itself went fantastic, right it did.
Speaker 4 (15:20):
Yes. So I used a company that I've used a
couple of times, Premiere Movers for Less and they're a
local company, and I ended up talking to the owner.
They were fantastic. They actually came in under what they
estimated the.
Speaker 5 (15:31):
Move would be.
Speaker 4 (15:32):
Imagine that where I've had where they estimated and you
get done the move and you get the bill and
it's like thousands of dollars more.
Speaker 5 (15:39):
And yeah, he had a crew of three people that
came out.
Speaker 1 (15:42):
They were people. Yeah, that's see, that's nice. Sometimes you know,
you got too in there. It just takes a while.
Speaker 2 (15:47):
You know. I've had my go around with movers before
where they wanted money, like extra money right now, So
that's amazing you were able to get it in, you know,
under what they originally estimated.
Speaker 3 (15:59):
That's great.
Speaker 4 (16:00):
Yeah, so Premiere Movers for Lessons who I used. They
were amazing. My friend had used them when she moved
and then she told me about them when I moved
before into the rental house, and so I called them
again because they did such a good job.
Speaker 1 (16:10):
So while you were out, everything fell apart. I know,
I know, Gian disaster. I'm down in Miami doing the
show there last week and I get sick and I
am struggling through the freakin show. The podcast never gets
up social media.
Speaker 5 (16:27):
Yeah, I know. Well I knew there was no podcast apart.
Speaker 4 (16:30):
Because when because I tried to tell the guy who
painted my house, I told him what I do and
I said you should listen, and I went to add
the podcast. I got the I put the iHeartRadio app
on his phone and want to get the podcast, and
I was like, oh, I guess he hasn't done the
podcast since I've been out.
Speaker 3 (16:46):
No, somebody, somebody emailed me.
Speaker 1 (16:47):
They let there must be a very loyal listener to
the podcast, and we really appreciate that, and they're like,
where is it? And I explained the whole thing and
they shot me back, and now we thought I heard radio.
Speaker 3 (16:57):
Did that for you? No, no, we do it. It's us.
I got.
Speaker 4 (17:00):
I got a message on Instagram that said, Dana, when
are you coming back?
Speaker 5 (17:03):
The show sucks without you? Like, yes, at least somebody
misses me.
Speaker 2 (17:07):
And I was waiting for a phone standing by, waiting
for a phone call all week long, going.
Speaker 3 (17:12):
Can you come in? Can you come in?
Speaker 2 (17:13):
Like I can come in later in the week.
Speaker 3 (17:17):
Yeah, certain days, I mean, Monday was dicey. Monday was
a tough show to get through.
Speaker 1 (17:22):
But then this pregnant zone kicked in and I got
to tell you, I'm riding high right now.
Speaker 3 (17:27):
I'm loaded up on it. Yeah, feeling pretty good. So
I managed to get through it.
Speaker 1 (17:31):
All right, let's get to today's top stories, and there's
really one big one.
Speaker 3 (17:34):
The government shutdown continues, right.
Speaker 2 (17:36):
Okay, So this is day two of the partial government shutdown.
Lawmakers held procedural votes on a couple of competing funding measures,
both of which, as we knew they would failed. Shut
down is likely to last until at least tomorrow. And
as you might expect right now, we got a lot
of finger pointing going on back and forth. It's the
Democrat's fault. It's the Republican's fault. This is what congress
(18:00):
Woman on A Paulina Luna from Pinelo's County have to say.
Speaker 5 (18:03):
They walk themselves into this.
Speaker 7 (18:04):
But I think right now everyone agrees that there's a
massive deficit that we face, and so this is going
to be making lemonade out of lemons. They got us here,
and frankly, I think that the President is well overdue
for making those promises to the American people and delivering
on that in regards to really bringing in some of
the inflated government.
Speaker 2 (18:22):
So basically some of the takeaways from the federal government shutdown.
Speaker 3 (18:26):
What's going on.
Speaker 2 (18:27):
As many as four million federal employees, including some service members,
could go without a pay check, including about two million troops.
It could be forced to work without pay. Social Security, Medicare,
and Medicaid that will continue to be distributed, although there
can be slow downs. This I find interesting. The FDA
(18:48):
says it can't ensure that the meat, milk, and eggs
of livestock are safe for people to eat.
Speaker 3 (18:54):
Well, it doesn't matter. I mean we get recalls every
five seconds these days, anyway.
Speaker 5 (18:57):
Yeah, that's true.
Speaker 2 (18:58):
Transportationsa workers they're expected to continue work but without pay.
Commercial flights continue to operate. Airline employees would not be
impacted because of this. Justice Department says there's a high
percentage of activities employees who would be required to continue operations.
The Supreme Court would not be affected. Some civil cases,
(19:21):
naal civil cases could be affected. So, I mean, there's
an awful lot going on. It's way way too much
to you know, kind of write in this platform, but
we're going to spend a lot of time on this
throughout the morning. We'll dive into what both touch are saying.
We'll dive into the main issue at the center of
all of this. So again, we've got lots on the
(19:42):
government shutdown throughout the course of the morning. Read Shepherd
with today's top stories. Read Thanks so much.
Speaker 1 (19:47):
The Ryan Gorman Show five to nine every weekday morning
on news radiow UFLA
