Speaker 1 (00:00):
Go to the highline and bring in the ABC News
correspondent Jordana Miller coming to us live from Israel this morning. Jordana,
great to talk to you. So we have US Special
Envoy Steve Witkoff and President Trump's Sun and Lawn Chaired
Kushner over in Israel, Vice President JD. Vance and the
second Lady Usha Vance. They're either on their way or
(00:20):
they've already arrived. I'm not sure exactly where things stand there,
but the bottom line is there are going to be
some significant talks today for as the Trump administration tries
to keep this Middle East peace deal alive.
Speaker 2 (00:36):
Absolutely, Ryan, I mean, this is quite a considerable US
presidence in Israel. The Vice President JD. Vance and his
wife landed just about an hour ago here in Israel,
and they are expected to meet with the Israeli Prime
Minister with the Defense Minister. He and Wikoff and Jared
(00:59):
Kushner are sposed to go today to visit the Sencom,
the new sen Comb Sencom hub right that headquarters of
about two hundred US servicemen led by a US general.
That's the group that's going to be overseeing the implementation
(01:20):
of Trump's plan in Gaza, So the Vice president is
supposed to visit that area. We understand due to security concerns,
Vance is not going to enter Gaza. He may, you know,
he may be shown video from a drone that will
fly in to show him some of what's happening and
(01:41):
look at the redeployment, but he won't go in there,
you know, with his own two feet, not this trip.
And then you know, we understand also we just learned
from Egyptian sources that the head of Egypt's intel will
be here in Israel as well. All of that critical
(02:02):
as the United States and its partners in Israel work on,
first of all, how to prevent any major breaking points
in the ceasefire. We saw a lot of challenges on Sunday,
but also how to move forward. Right. President Trump's peace
plan was very ambitious, right, missing a lot of details,
(02:24):
a lot of there was no real blueprint for how
to set up a international security force, who's going to
lead that, who are the members, how big is it
when it will be deployed. All of those details not
in the President's plan, as well as how do you
set up an interim government? Who's on that government? Right,
(02:45):
there's so much that needs to be done, and so
the President's team here to try to move that process forward.
Even as Ryan, we have to remember, not all of
the Israeli hostages, the ones that were killed by Hamas,
the dead bodies, not all of them have been returned.
We saw another one come back last night, but that
(03:05):
still leaves fifteen hostage bodies in the hands of Hamas, right,
including two young Americans.
Speaker 1 (03:13):
Yeah, you wonder if the Vice President will say anything
about those bodies of Americans which Hamas still has not
turned over. During his tripover in Israel. Were joined by
ABC News correspondent Jordana Miller coming to us live from Israel.
Have there been any more skirmishes, any violence breaking out
(03:37):
over the past twenty four hours or if things calm
down since that back and forth between Hamas and Israel
that we saw over the weekend.
Speaker 2 (03:47):
You know, there's always kind of some little squirmishes around
what's called the Yellow Line. There were attempted attacks on
Israeli soldiers night in the north of Gaza earlier in
the day yesterday in the south. Today some reports of
another attempt but they have not resulted in the killing
(04:12):
of Israeli soldiers and That's why I think, you know,
we haven't seen any major another major flare up, but
I do believe Rian we are going to see more
of those flare ups. I don't think. I think it's
almost inevitable because Hamas Hamas will try whenever they can
(04:33):
to kill Israeli soldiers to try to, you know, to
try to bring up their profile among Gazans right, who
plenty of them are are frustrated and angry over this
war and the destruction and the death told. Some do
blame Hamas for it, and Hamas as we see, they're
(04:55):
trying desperately to regain their kind of rule of terror
over the streets of Gaza, Executing Palestinians they believe cooperated
with Israel, executing family clans that have long opposed their
rule in the Gaza strip right, and trying to show
that they are still in control of half of the
(05:18):
Gaza strip right because the Israelis are in the other half.
Speaker 1 (05:21):
Last question I have for you. There were some reports
that one idea that was being floated around was that
the administration and the countries who are going to make
up this governing body and security apparatus in Gaza, that
they focus first on Rafa because it's not necessarily in
(05:46):
Hamasa's control, and try to make an example out of
that area what Gaza could become of. You heard anything
like that because thought it was a pretty smart strategy,
just don't know how difficult that would be to implement.
Speaker 2 (06:00):
Ryan, there are reports here in Israel that we're trying
to confirm that the Trump administration wants to do exactly
what you've said. Start with Rafa, start a pilot project
there of rebuilding in Rafa, Start to bring in some
of the foreign security forces to Rafa, because that area
is controlled largely by the Israeli Army. Now I say
(06:25):
largely because above ground, the Israeli Army is in Rafa,
a deep inside what's called the Yellow Zone, right where
the Israeli Army redeployed to. But underground there are still
tunnels that are operative, right and Hamas showed on Sunday
that they can pop out a tunnel's attack and disappear again.
(06:48):
So it is a bit of a dangerous place still
until some of those tunnels are neutralized, and that's one
of the projects that would go hand in hand with
also neutralizing, closing up or destroying the tunnels underneath that area.
Speaker 1 (07:06):
