Speaker 1 (00:01):
This is the JB and Sandy Show podcast. You can
listen live every morning on one of three point one
in Austin, or stream the show on the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 2 (00:12):
All right, thanks for being with us today.

Speaker 3 (00:13):
We've got a fun guest this morning who we've brought
up on the show a couple of weeks ago because
we have determined by our own very unscientific methods that
Kristin Curry, the morning meteorologist at kxa N, is Austin's
new girlfriend, and because everybody loves her. If you look
at her social media, everybody loves Kristin Curry, and so

(00:33):
she's nice enough to join us this morning.

Speaker 2 (00:36):
Thanks Kristin.

Speaker 4 (00:36):
Hello, Hi, good to be with y'all. You guys are
very sweet in your comments. I've got receipts to prove
that that's not always true, but very very kind words.

Speaker 5 (00:48):
Yeah, the the votes were tallied by the accounting firm
of Anderson.

Speaker 2 (00:52):
I just got the record approve. You know the reason
they get. We kind of dubbed you Austin's girl for this.

Speaker 3 (01:00):
I just noticed that people just like you have a
very high likability factor.

Speaker 2 (01:05):
What do you think that what do you attribute that to?
Just being yourself.

Speaker 4 (01:11):
Yeah, I mean, I definitely don't put on any sort
of persona or fake personality. I can tell you that
what you see on airs is what I am, for
better or for worse. I'm the same person I say
at home, on TV and at the grocery store. There's
one version of me, and if you love it or
hate it, it.

Speaker 6 (01:30):
Is what it is.

Speaker 2 (01:32):
I like that.

Speaker 5 (01:33):
I like it when the person that you meet in person,
if we were to run into you at the store somewhere,
is the same as.

Speaker 2 (01:39):
They seem on TV.

Speaker 5 (01:40):
Like people ask about Sandy and JB when I run
into them, are.

Speaker 6 (01:44):
They best friends? Are they?

Speaker 1 (01:46):
You know?

Speaker 2 (01:46):
Are they like that in real life?

Speaker 3 (01:47):
And I'm like, they're exactly like they sound on the radio,
which keeping up.

Speaker 5 (01:51):
Alive for twenty I don't think we're.

Speaker 3 (01:57):
Not capable, right, We're not, you know, christ And I
want to know something about and it's it's kind of
with longtime Austin. It's and you know, Tricia and Jbi
grew up here. I've been here since nineteen ninety six.
You're you're from southern California, and we like to we
bust chops a lot about the Californians moving to Austin
in particular, Texas in general.

Speaker 2 (02:19):
How have you found that?

Speaker 3 (02:20):
Is it been hard to be a Southern Californian in
Central Texas.

Speaker 4 (02:26):
You know, It's not something that I'm ashamed of. It's
not the first topic of conversation that I bring up
when I when I meet people. But it kind of
goes back to I am who I am, you know,
and I know I'm a Texas transplant. I'm happy to
call Texas home. I lived in Lullbook for a little bit.
That's where I started my career. So it's just one

(02:48):
of those things that I know I'm part of the
quote unquote problem for some people. But I'm also I
know that that Texas is is changing, and you know,
if I can bring a little bit of a good
to that change.

Speaker 6 (03:04):
Then it's worth it to me.

Speaker 4 (03:06):
And I'm not going to hold that against anyone, whether
from California, Rhode Island, or Florida. You know, welcome, Like,
take a seat, let's talk.

Speaker 3 (03:13):
Christy Curry is our guest. You can see her every morning.
She's the morning meteorologist on KXA. And you mentioned starting
out in Lubbock. I'm curious in the meteorology world and
let's not take market size into account. Here is there
a dream spot to work if you're a meteorologist just
based on the weather and how it changes all the time,

(03:35):
or you know what I mean is what is that place?

Speaker 4 (03:38):
I think it's different for everyone, but you probably would
find a lot of people saying, you know, like Oklahoma City,
Oklahoma City, Yes, the nastiest of the nastiest storms in
the springtime, the big tornadoes, and you know, as distructive
and heartbreaking as they are, there is a sense of
purpose for us. You know, we've spent years studying these

(03:59):
kinds of storms, and so it's where it's where we
feel like we make the biggest difference when the weather
is that extreme. Some people love hurricanes, so they'd say
their dreamark it would be somewhere, you know, like Tampa, Florida,
where they're constantly covering different sort of tropical threats. One
of the reasons why I like taxes so much is
because you get a little bit of everything. I mean,

(04:21):
despite the fact that, yeah, the summer seems to take
the attention.

Speaker 6 (04:24):
We get all this seasons.

Speaker 4 (04:26):
We get a little bit of those different weather pieces
without it totally kicking your butt, right like we're not
staying up with marathon storms or often than not.

Speaker 2 (04:36):
Right, right, So Oklahoma City, that's.

Speaker 4 (04:38):
The spot I would I would think a lot of
people would say that.

Speaker 2 (04:43):
Again, Kristin Curry is our guest.

Speaker 3 (04:45):
You can find around kix and what's your social I
follow you, but I don't have it off the top
of my head on social.

Speaker 4 (04:50):
They can find you at Kristin Curry TV.

Speaker 6 (04:53):
It's my handle for all my social medias.

Speaker 2 (04:55):
Okay, JB, did you saying something curiously?

Speaker 6 (05:00):
You know?

Speaker 5 (05:01):
I know in your profession you work all the time.
You put in a lot of hours, I'm sure, But
when you are not working and hopefully you get some downtime,
what do you do for fun?

Speaker 6 (05:13):
Is what excites you? And what do you like to
do in and around Austin.

Speaker 4 (05:16):
I'm a reader, so I do read quite a bit,
especially in the supper time when it's hot. But I'm
also a wine lover and I actually sorry. I moved
here in twenty nineteen, but I bought out and Dripping
in twenty twenty so I could be closer to the
wine country.

Speaker 6 (05:34):
I love just being outside.

Speaker 2 (05:36):
Being a quiet away from the city.

Speaker 6 (05:38):
Drink and wine. That is what I'm doing.

Speaker 5 (05:40):
Okay, that's very interesting, especially from California in which with
the richest history of winemaking in the US. And what
do you think of our wine scene here, because it's
it's become, in my opinion, fairly legit. You know, it
was all it was kind of I don't want to
say a joke, know, but no one took it seriously

(06:02):
for a long time.

Speaker 6 (06:03):
And you probably remember working in Lubbock. They'd make these
sweet white wines up.

Speaker 5 (06:07):
There, and now they're I mean, we are importing a
lot of grapes from California, But what do you think
of our wine scene as a whole?

Speaker 4 (06:14):
You know what, I love Texas wines because relative to
like snotty California wineries, they're good wine, and it's you're
not paying California prices for it. And I think even
just the venues, the way some of these wineries have
built up their patios and such. I think it's just
it's a nice, littless skateboard. It's far enough away from
Austin you feel like you'd taken a little day vacation,

(06:36):
but it's not, you know, for where you're having to
do all sorts of hoops and ladders to get there.
So I've been really impressed.

Speaker 6 (06:44):
With Texas wines.

Speaker 5 (06:45):
Do you envy and fantasize about the incident with that
one reporter at the grape snomp many many years ago
that has gone viral a thousand times over. You don't
know this.

Speaker 2 (06:57):
There's something bad happened.

Speaker 5 (06:59):
Oh, it's like one of the early early early viral
videos before before Instagram, before TikTok. For sure, there was
a reporter at a grade. You'll have to I'll have
to look it up.

Speaker 4 (07:14):
I did I have I have grapes stumped on TV
in Lubbook Texas before.

Speaker 5 (07:19):
Well, this did not end well and it's a classic,
like it is so the grapes or something.

Speaker 2 (07:26):
I can't remember how it fell.

Speaker 6 (07:28):
Over and then just couldn't breathe. Oh god, before a thing.

Speaker 4 (07:36):
I've had some good bloopers on TV, but nothing like that.

Speaker 6 (07:39):
What was your worst one? What was the worst blooper?

Speaker 5 (07:42):
Oh? Man?

Speaker 4 (07:43):
I mean one most reason that I still get made
fun of now is my earpiece popped out during ut
move in day. This was last year and I was
out there and it was in the morning, and I
was hot, it was warm and humid, and it cuts
to me and you hear me stay, I'm getting really sweaty,
and I'm like fanning my shirt, not having any idea

(08:06):
that I'm on TV, and I'm like look it up
in the distance, and my photographers like you, and I
thought he was joking.

Speaker 6 (08:14):
It was so bad.

Speaker 4 (08:15):
It's so cringey, and sell my coworkers to this day
make on you for well.

Speaker 2 (08:20):
That's the thing about television.

Speaker 3 (08:21):
There's so many other people that can make They don't
purposely make you look bad, but you can look bad
because somebody else didn't do something and you just don't
know it.

Speaker 4 (08:31):
Internet lifts forever now.

Speaker 3 (08:33):
Kristin Curry is our guest catcher every morning on k
x a N. Stay with us more with her coming up.
In fact, we're going to talk food, wine, coffee, and
a whole lot more with Kristin Curry from k x
