Speaker 3 (00:20):
Hi.
Speaker 4 (00:20):
Everybody.
Speaker 2 (00:21):
You can hit us up be a text anytime at
seven three seven three zero one ninety six one hundred
and uh again that's seven three seven three zero one
ninety six one hundred. Tricia said that there's a new
trend among is this young men, grown men, old men,
grown men, grown men, grown.
Speaker 4 (00:38):
This man new trend? Is this a social media thing?
Speaker 5 (00:41):
Yeah, so social media thing that I saw on it
is very interested to see what you guys think about it. Okay,
it's what they're doing is normally it's a couple and
the girlfriend of their wife will film the man picking
up his stphone at night and calling one of his
buddies just.
Speaker 4 (00:56):
Tell him good night, Say man, want to tell you
good night.
Speaker 5 (01:02):
So then this one video that I saw the guy
on the other end, they had him on speaker.
Speaker 4 (01:07):
He was like, wow, good night.
Speaker 5 (01:10):
I can't remember the last time somebody told me good night.
I know, I think it's hilarious, and I instantly pictured
you two like Sandy just picking up the phonies. He's
laying in bed calling JB like, hey, dude, just want
until you get that right?
Speaker 4 (01:26):
Why is that so funny?
Speaker 2 (01:28):
Because I would would that happened to me at like
nine o'clock at night, I would be like.
Speaker 4 (01:32):
Be stunned for a while, dude, are you drunk? Are
you something wrong with you? Good night?
Speaker 3 (01:39):
I can see you hanging up like if I did
that to you, hanging up the phone walking and Trisha
go the weirdest thing.
Speaker 4 (01:45):
To believe what JB just did. We need to do
a well check on him.
Speaker 2 (01:49):
Yeah, definitely, Jammy just called and told me good night.
Speaker 4 (01:52):
I think so that the overwhelming response.
Speaker 5 (01:55):
I mean, some of the guys we are reacting like
y'all say y'all would, but some of them, most of
them are like that.
Speaker 4 (02:00):
He was like, Wow, thanks than you.
Speaker 2 (02:04):
That's pretty funny. I know, huh. Maybe I'll try that
with all my friends. I'll do it and see what happens.
I'll call it cheeseburger brock and just be like, hey,
I just want to say good night.
Speaker 4 (02:13):
Shut it down. I just wanted to tell you tonight.
Speaker 2 (02:19):
Speaking of cheeseburger, Brock, we got to get him back
on I've been trying to set it up and he's busy,
but he kind of outside the scope of cheeseburgers in Austin.
But he found a top three he said, top three
burger in i'l Paso, Texas. Oh wow, he said it's
in his top three. For those who don't know, Brock
is a longtime friend of ours and he is a
(02:39):
cheeseburger expert, and he's been rating cheeseburgers in Austin for
I don't know twenty five years, and I think it's
still number one, is still Dirty Martin's. But he found
one Majors in Liberty Hill, Liberty Hill in Liberty Hill
that got up the number two got.
Speaker 5 (02:55):
Up to number two. And he said, there's always a
line at the door. And every time I've driven through
Liberty Hill, like the last three times, I'm like, I'm
going to stop there lying out the door.
Speaker 2 (03:04):
I've been to Liberty Hill more in the last year
than I was in the last twenty five years.
Speaker 4 (03:08):
It's true, have you been out there lately? JB.
Speaker 3 (03:11):
We used to do a lot of like winter bike
rides out that way because there was nothing out there.
Speaker 4 (03:17):
Yeah, it's all developed now, so I haven't been out
in a long time.
Speaker 2 (03:19):
It's a lot of construction with the one to eighty
three toll way being built o that direction. Then Santa
Rita Ranch is there, that master planned community which is
freaking enormous, And every time I go out there, I
get a flat. There was all that construction and stuff
going on. Yeah, I swear two times in a row
I went out there and I got a screw in
my tire.
Speaker 4 (03:40):
And that's the biggest pain in the ass, isn't it.
Speaker 2 (03:42):
Yeah, it's just slow leak and then you get the
message on at least in my car that your pressure
is low.
Speaker 4 (03:48):
And then want you how to plug a tire man?
You know how do that? Hel Yeah, how do you
do that? How do you do that? You just keep
a plug kid in your in your truck?
Speaker 2 (03:56):
Come on, Well, every time I go to time, I
go to get it fished, like, sorry, can't plug it.
Speaker 4 (04:02):
Got to get a new tire. But it depends on
where the screw goes.
Speaker 3 (04:06):
Yeah, if the screw goes in the sidewall at all,
or like in the thin part of the tread. Yeah,
you're you're kind of screwed. You can't really you can
just plug it just to get home, That's about it.
Then you should probably replace it. But where can you
plug it when it goes into the tread the proper tread?
Speaker 4 (04:22):
Oh okay, like if you literally run over top of it.
Speaker 3 (04:25):
Yeah, and you take you know, you take jack up
the car, take the tire off, and take a tire
plug kit and you actually you pull out the screw
and then you take this boring thing and you actually
make the hole bigger.
Speaker 4 (04:38):
Oh really yep, and you just kind of, you know,
just kind of knead it in.
Speaker 3 (04:43):
And then you take this this little rubbery tube thing
and you put a bunch of loube on it, stick
it through this little needle kind of thing, slide it
into your tire, pops right out, cut off the end
and tear it.
Speaker 4 (04:58):
Up and off you go. I think I'll just have
the guy at lamps to it. I just did it.
Two weeks ago.
Speaker 3 (05:04):
My daughter was stranded really just leaving her apartment and
she's like, my dad, my car's making a weird noise,
and I go, where are you?
Speaker 4 (05:12):
She goes just leaving my apartment. I go, well, it's
probably a flat.
Speaker 3 (05:15):
She got out looked and one of her rear tires
was flat with a screw in it, and I plugged
it got her back on the road.
Speaker 2 (05:21):
You seem like the kind of dad that wouldn't let
a kid drive until they can change a tire in
front of you.
Speaker 3 (05:26):
I you know, I should be. I have taught her
a lot of stuff. She knows how to add oil
through her tour car. That's a good point. She doesn't
really know how to change properly change a tire. I've
really dropped the ball in that.
Speaker 4 (05:38):
My grandfather made me do that.
Speaker 5 (05:40):
I mean he wasn't even the one deciding when I
was able to drive, but I in order to please him,
he made me change a tire in front of him.
Speaker 3 (05:48):
Well, a lot of the newer cars don't even have spares.
Oh really, especially sports cars they're doing it yeah cut weight, Yeah,
that's true. I think they figure on higher end cars
those people don't know how to anyway.
Speaker 2 (06:00):
You're right, and they all have roadside assistance, right right.
It's always such a make that seem like such a
big perk roadside.
Speaker 4 (06:08):
Do you ever use it? It's hours that you're waiting.
Speaker 2 (06:11):
If you need it right my roadside assistant just called
JB jab Yeah, I can get there faster, So I'll
tell you I'm gonna try that calling good night thing. Okay,
do it's and see what happens.
Speaker 4 (06:24):
I'll record it. Coming up next, Tristan, you're busy on
the show today.
Speaker 2 (06:27):
By the way, Stephen Presley's going to join us about
seven twenty five this morning.
Speaker 4 (06:30):
It's got some interesting stuff to talk about.
Speaker 2 (06:32):
There's another eighties movie that we're going to get a
prequel to. Also, Tom Cruise is in Texas today promoting
his new movie, So stick around. We'll talk to Stephen
in just a little bit. What do you have next
in the Story We Love?
Speaker 5 (06:45):
We need to talk about ACC's free tuition pilot program.
They just completed the first year of it. This thing
is amazing.
Speaker 2 (06:53):
Yeah, it's pretty cool. Yeah, all right, stay with us.
Story we Love coming up next on Austin Davies station
What Oh three point one.
Speaker 4 (07:00):
It's the JV and Sandy Show.
Speaker 2 (07:01):
You can listen online at one O three to one
Austin dot com. Trisa's got the Story We Love in
just a moment. It's the JV and Sandy Show. By
the way, I know it's tough to find weather forecast,
but it just surprised me. I didn't realize that we
have a really good chance of rain on Memorial Day. Yeah,
I had no idea.
Speaker 4 (07:20):
Isn't it crazy?
Speaker 2 (07:21):
Over the years, like the Memorial we've had a lot
of flooding on Memorial Day.
Speaker 4 (07:25):
We had one of our first ones ever on a
Memorial Day. Yeah right, I mean, so it doesn't look
like it's going to be that, but over the week,
so you know that.
Speaker 3 (07:33):
I mean, prepare yourself, don't mess around if we do
get flooding. But it also has filled up the light
like Travis. Oh yeah, with a good Memorial Day rain.
We have seen Lake Travis fill up in three days.
Speaker 5 (07:46):
Yeah, go from bone dry like up into the cove
that we used to live in Solow to now we're like,
you got to stop. It's gonna it's coming up too high,
too high, in like three days.
Speaker 4 (07:57):
Right.
Speaker 3 (07:57):
Oh yeah, I forget you guys live there when it's
been through that transformation.
Speaker 2 (08:01):
Absolutely, And as soon as that lake filled up, there
was a forced sale side in the yard.
Speaker 4 (08:06):
For most of the houses. The stories Whelah, Good Morning
Live from the Lester Hold studio. Here is Trisha Dlisha.
Speaker 5 (08:18):
So ACC some people used to call it back in
the day. Maybe they still do. Anyone can come college, right,
I've never heard that one. Yeah, because I mean anybody
gets into ACC. They have just completed the first year
of their free tuition pilot program. Basically, if you are
a local high school student, you were offered free tuition
(08:39):
and general fees once you've graduated. This started after graduating
in twenty twenty three. They've completed the first year and
apparently it is huge success. They were expecting thirty six
hundred students to take advantage of it. They've had over
five thousand students take advantage of it. And you are
eligible to go for three years completely free, or if
(09:01):
you're interested in pursuing one of their four year bachelor degrees,
four years completely free.
Speaker 3 (09:07):
The way you can get a bachelor's degree from ACC. Yeah,
they have associate degrees. I didn't know you could get
a bachelor's.
Speaker 5 (09:13):
Bachelor's they have four different ones. It's huge for nursing too,
so somebody can go get their nursing degree one percent
free with them.
Speaker 4 (09:23):
And I was like, how are they affording to do this.
Speaker 5 (09:25):
Apparently they had like a twenty million dollars surplus that
the guy running ACC right now, the president who I'm
sorry I don't have his name in front of me,
was like, yeah, let's get back, let's see what happens.
Speaker 3 (09:36):
Oh my gosh, they have a twenty million surplus and
they're giving back. University of Texas has a twenty billion
dollars really and still begs for money from bags for money. Yeah,
well twenty billion dollars right, I made that number up. Yeah, yeah,
but they do have they're sitting on billions. Oh yeah, definitely.
Speaker 4 (09:58):
I don't know.
Speaker 5 (09:59):
I actually you know two people who they were like planning,
they were planning to go to a four year college
when they found out about this. They are now doing
their first two years at ACC, getting all of their
basics out of the way completely for free, then transferring
to complete their last two years at a four year
year of college for their plan.
Speaker 4 (10:18):
A great plan. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (10:19):
The upside to that is, well, the downside to that
is that, yeah, you don't have the regular college experience,
right yeah for two years, for two years. That's the
doubts that The upside is it was free right right
in costume debt, no debt for the basics. Yeah, right,
so that's interesting. Good for ACC. That's pretty cool for
(10:40):
them to do.
Speaker 5 (10:41):
Yeah, I mean, they're definitely getting a lot of notice
for this too. They did say that one of the
things that was unexpected because they had such a larger
amount of enrollments and they're expecting they then had to
add faculty, which then was a little bit more of
an increase in how much this was costing them. But
they're like, we can do it, it's not a problem.
So I have a question about ACC. And forgive me
(11:01):
for not knowing this.
Speaker 2 (11:02):
There's a difference between ACC and a trade school, right, Like,
ACC is not a trade school.
Speaker 5 (11:08):
No, ACC is just a community college, right, like a
like a junior college.
Speaker 3 (11:12):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (11:13):
Like, I mean I think each city, a lot of
cities have their own community college, tax payer funded colleges.
Speaker 2 (11:22):
Right, So if you wanted to go learn to be
an electrician, you don't go to ACC, I don't think so.
Speaker 5 (11:27):
I mean, unless they have an electricians program, like they
have a nursing program. But no, I don't necessarily think
it's a trade school. Okay, right, nothing wrong with trade schools.
Speaker 2 (11:36):
Yeah, I mean there's a that's a booming field right
now because we don't have enough of them, right, and so,
in fact, a buddy of mine's son he figured out
college wasn't for him, and now he's an apprentice electrician
and loving it and making good money.
Speaker 4 (11:52):
That's free and making money.
Speaker 2 (11:53):
Yeah, I mean making money, more money than the kid
that's just graduating from college.
Speaker 4 (11:59):
Like all those things. Trades are recession proof.
Speaker 3 (12:02):
If you're plowing's out, it doesn't matter, right, right, right,
I have electricity, don't have AC and it's one hundred
and five out.
Speaker 4 (12:10):
You're finding them screwed exactly.
Speaker 5 (12:12):
I read a story, you know, how colleges will put
announcements out about one of their athletes who has signed
to a four year college, you know, gotten a scholarship
or whatever. And one college I think in Texas is
now putting out announcements when their kids are accepted into
trade school, internships and stuff like that, which I think
is great.
Speaker 4 (12:31):
Yeah, I think it's fantastic.
Speaker 2 (12:33):
Yeah, it's not forever, you know, go nothing wrong with
just good work, right, nothing at all? Well all three
point one Austin's eighties station. It's the JB and Sandy Show. Hey,
it's Memorial Weekend in Austin, Texas. If you're looking for
some stuff to do, there's plenty, plenty and plenty of
plenty of stuff to do. I thought this was kind
of interesting, not in Austin, but the Whitewater Amphitheater.
Speaker 4 (12:56):
Is that that's new bron Poles, right? I think so? Yeah,
pretty much.
Speaker 2 (13:00):
Ryan Bingham, who you probably know from Yellowstone, He's playing
He and the Texas Gentlemen are playing tomorrow night at
six point thirty at the Whitewater Amphitheater. Ryan's got a
lot of ties to Texas. Before he hit it big,
he was playing the rodeo circuit in South Texas on flatbed.
Speaker 4 (13:19):
Trucks and he rode too. I think did he ride?
I didn't know if he rodeoed or not? Think he
I'm sure. I don't know if he cowboyed it. That's
a term I learned from Yellowstone.
Speaker 2 (13:30):
I love.
Speaker 4 (13:31):
Yeah, I didn't know if he cowboyed or not. But
look it up now, I'm dying to know, and he
legit was a rodeo guy.
Speaker 2 (13:40):
Look it up and I'll tell you that he recorded
one of his first big singles here in Austin at
Purple be studios. Oh yeah, and he slept on the
couch there while they were doing it.
Speaker 3 (13:52):
What's he was a bull rider as a teenager really
and he rose on the rodeo team at Tarleton State.
Speaker 2 (14:01):
Yeah, much safer career singing songs and playing guitars. Yes,
and strapping into a bill. Did you know that Tricia's
cousin son is a world champion bullfighter bullfighter.
Speaker 4 (14:15):
Yeah, he's like radio clown bullfighter. Oh, my cousin Cody.
Speaker 5 (14:20):
He did it when he was younger, and then now
his son, Chance Mormon is like the the number one
guy in the state or the country bull you won
the world champions World championship bullfighter. Yeah, he does this thing.
His signature move JB is when the bull is running
towards him at the exact perfect moment, he jumps up
(14:41):
and does a like Benson Boone front flip over the
bull as.
Speaker 4 (14:44):
It runs underneath him. Gets crazy. Yeah, it's insane, but
he wins everywhere he goes. Yeah, I mean that's a
tough way.
Speaker 2 (14:54):
I was talking to his dad once and I'm like,
that's a young man's game. He's like, you're telling me
I could barely walk down. Yeah, of course Trisha's family
rodeos of course.
Speaker 4 (15:05):
Of course that other stuff going on.
Speaker 2 (15:08):
The Ascension Seat and cap Tex Try is happening this weekend.
Speaker 4 (15:13):
That is in downtown Austin.
Speaker 2 (15:15):
Uh, if you haven't been preparing for that, you might
be a little bit late. But swim in Ladybird Lake.
What I didn't think we're supposed to swim there.
Speaker 3 (15:26):
That's that's what's funny to me about the cap Tex Try.
Is for three hundred and sixty four days a year,
we say do not swim, Yeah, and Ladybird Lake, but
for one day we're like about it, all.
Speaker 4 (15:40):
Right, enjoy just when time's not really going to kill you.
You know, they die a year later.
Speaker 5 (15:47):
Feel good for the next few days, but you'll be fine.
Speaker 4 (15:50):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (15:51):
So the swims in Ladybird Lake, then they run through
Butler Park and then the bike ride goes through downtown.
Also happening this week Do you have a friend that's
involved with that triathlon?
Speaker 4 (16:02):
JB.
Speaker 3 (16:04):
So the promoters, Yeah, the promotion team that puts it on.
Speaker 2 (16:08):
There's also the Memorial Day Freedom Run, which is a
family friendly run to honor veterans. You can do it
as a group or as a solo Brushy Creek Lake
Park is where that starts.
Speaker 4 (16:20):
Austin.
Speaker 2 (16:21):
The Austin Soul Food Festival is going on this weekend.
That's pretty cool. That's at Republic Square down at Fourth
and Guadaloup. You can go down there.
Speaker 4 (16:30):
And get full. Yeah, that sounds good, right. What was
the name of that restaurant that we love.
Speaker 5 (16:35):
The Soul Food restaurant, Whip My Soul. Whip My Soul,
Whip my Soul. I dream about their candy dams. I'm
not lying.
Speaker 4 (16:43):
I bet you they'll be there for that. Yeah. Maybe. So.
Also up in.
Speaker 2 (16:47):
Round Rock, the VFW Post ninety seventy eight is having
a ceremony with the flyover by the Falcon Flight Formation
Team to honor fallen service members. That's absolutely free. It's
an old settlers park this weekend. So that's just some
stuff going on around Austin for Memorial Day. If you
are going to Lake Travis, you gotta be really, really careful.
(17:12):
It is so low right now, and it's going to
be crowded.
Speaker 4 (17:16):
And then it's of course kind of a mystery.
Speaker 3 (17:18):
We don't know what's right under the water as it
continues to drop.
Speaker 2 (17:21):
Yeah, it's it's I mean, I hate to say, it's
just dangerous.
Speaker 4 (17:24):
Yeah, and stumps and.
Speaker 2 (17:27):
And Lake Austin. JB trade Trush and I are Lake
Travis people. JB is a Lake Austin guy. Are they
allowing personal watercraft?
Speaker 4 (17:36):
Like just it's usually banned on the holiday?
Speaker 3 (17:38):
Sorry about your jet ski guys, Yeah, but you can't
use it this weekend. Any other weekend you can go
out there and film that Viagra commercial, but not this weekend.
Speaker 4 (17:54):
Yeah, keep your keep your jet ski at home. This weekend.
Speaker 2 (17:59):
You can't go all any powers on us, which is
a hysterical show.
Speaker 4 (18:04):
If you've never watched it, Eastbound and Down.
Speaker 6 (18:07):
Absolutely love this Wave Runners. It cracks me up. Yeah,
it's wildly inappropriate. That's why it's so fun. That it's great,
That's why it's so funny. So have a great Memorial
weekend and just be safe and enjoy it. It's a
JB and Sandy show. It's Austin's eighty station. What O
three point one? That is the story. We love stick around.
Speaker 2 (18:27):
Stephen Presley is going to join us and we're going
to talk some Hollywood stuff that's going on. Tom cruises
in Texas today out promoted his new movie We'll Take
You about that. Also an eighties movie that's getting a prequel.
Stay with us. Stephen Presley joins us next on Austin's
eighty station. What O three point one
