Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hey, it's Sandy. And before we get to today's show,
I'm just going to let you know that the JB
and Sandy Hour is now from seven until eight o'clock
Monday through Friday. That's seven until eight o'clock Monday through Friday.
And don't forget you can use your smart speaker to listen.
We've made it easier. All you have to do is
say play one oh three to one Austin. It's a
big day on the show. We'll tell you why in

(00:21):
a second. First morning, Sandy, this is JB. Hello, Tricia's
here as well. Hi everybody, and Tricia celebrating burpy.

Speaker 2 (00:31):
Birthday.

Speaker 1 (00:32):
Happy birthday, two day, Birthday, Happy birthday, two day. We're
glad you're here this time up here, you're getting anyway.
We wish you birthday. It's two day, breath day, your birthday.
Happy And that's the version she makes us sing before

(00:55):
she blows out the candles.

Speaker 3 (00:58):
We're finding the regular version.

Speaker 4 (01:00):
I don't think i've ever heard that version.

Speaker 1 (01:03):
Happy Birthday, Tricia, Thank you and your will your mother
recount the day that you were born like you do
for our daughter on her birthday every year.

Speaker 2 (01:14):
I do it for our daughter because it totally wigs
her out and freaks around those secretly. She does like
to hear the story my mom. She every once in
a while throws something in like at.

Speaker 3 (01:25):
This time fifty four years ago, I was.

Speaker 2 (01:29):
You know that kind of thing. But I go into
deep depth about it, JB.

Speaker 4 (01:33):
For our daughter early graphic.

Speaker 3 (01:35):
Yeah right, it's all freaked.

Speaker 1 (01:37):
Out and you've already gotten a prize right free lato.

Speaker 3 (01:41):
Yeah. So I'm a member of jack Pocket and for.

Speaker 2 (01:45):
People new listeners, it's an app no one remember, I remember.

Speaker 3 (01:51):
That's how I like to make it sound special. My
you know, JB.

Speaker 2 (01:54):
My side hustle is my lotto business, right, and so
if the Rader thing doesn't work out, I'm falling back
on my Plan B, which is my lotto business.

Speaker 1 (02:03):
I do business.

Speaker 3 (02:04):
I do a lot of.

Speaker 2 (02:05):
Purchasing winning small amounts, and then I reinvest is how
I am growing my business.

Speaker 4 (02:11):
Now back into the business.

Speaker 2 (02:12):
A couple of years ago, I went digital with Jackpocket.
You can buy your lotto tickets online, and they sent
me two dollars to spend for my birthday and I
have a feeling this could be the winning ticket.

Speaker 4 (02:25):
Oh that'd be wild if your birthday money was the one.

Speaker 2 (02:28):
That hit right and with two dollars that I didn't
even have to spend. Come on, that'd be amazing.

Speaker 1 (02:33):
So are you buying scratchers or lottos? Because get the
blitz ones. If you get the scratchers, get the blitz ones.

Speaker 2 (02:39):
Right, because the blitz ones. There were four one million
dollar winners out there and there's still are three left.

Speaker 4 (02:46):
They just had a million dollar scratch off Austin winner.

Speaker 1 (02:48):
I saw.

Speaker 2 (02:49):
I know, I know it's all around us. The winning
is all around us. Some one of us is going
to win.

Speaker 1 (02:55):
Last night, JB. Trisha said to me, you know tonight
could be the night because there was a rhyme last night.
We could be the big lotto winners. And I'm like, boy,
I hope so, and she goes, yeah, I'm just I'm
kind of getting tired of waiting.

Speaker 3 (03:10):
It's taken too long. Like I'm ready.

Speaker 1 (03:15):
Right start doing all my good deeds now with the money.
Why I have to keep waiting for it. I'm just
going to do good things with it. And so yeah, Jorsia,
of course you celebrate your birthday with President Abraham Lincoln,
who was born You know what year Lincoln was born?

Speaker 2 (03:34):
No, I do not know what year, but I know
he was he cannot tell a lie. I know that
was kind of his thing, his motto.

Speaker 1 (03:40):
He was born in eighteen o nine. It's a long
time ago. Also, people you celebrate birthdays with Robert Griffin,
the third Heisman Trophy winner, played football at Baylor up
in Waco, and I think he is from Harker Heights.
I'm not exactly positive on that, but anyway, Josh Brolin
is fifty having you guys know him from Avengers Infinity War. Also,

(04:03):
China Phillips from Wilson Phillips is celebrating fifty seven. And
the guy you haven't heard much from lately but was
a big deal back in the eighties and early nineties,
our Sinio Hall, celebrate sixty nine. He was so great
in coming to America too, though. Yeah remember that. I
can watch those Barbershot scenes over and over again. Kill me.

(04:28):
So Happy birthday, Trish. What are your plans? I'm not there.
What are you doing?

Speaker 4 (04:32):
Yep?

Speaker 2 (04:33):
Landry, our daughter, my mom, and our neighbor Mel. We're
going to go to dinner, go eat some steak somewhere.

Speaker 3 (04:41):
I picked. I picked Long Horned Steakhouse. Have you been
to a Long Horn steakhouse. Jab.

Speaker 4 (04:45):
Yeah, you can't go wrong so good. If you screw
up a steak, you shouldn't be in the restaurant business,
right right, it's all it's just if it's good quality beef,
it's going to be a great steak. Just don't go
over crooked.

Speaker 1 (04:56):
What's nice? What are the details on the birthday cake?

Speaker 2 (05:00):
So my mom recently had knee surgery like two weeks ago.

Speaker 3 (05:04):
This will be the first.

Speaker 2 (05:05):
Year in my entire existence that she does not make
either a homemade Italian cream cake or a homemade Gruman
chocolate cake for me.

Speaker 3 (05:13):
This is the first time ever.

Speaker 1 (05:16):
So it's just say, HGB cake. Huh.

Speaker 2 (05:18):
Now, I think it's whatever Longhorn Steakhouse is serving. I
think that's my birthday cake.

Speaker 1 (05:23):
Yeah, well you gotta have cake at home too, because
you got to put it on the stupid birthday hat
and the whole thing.

Speaker 2 (05:28):
No, we're not doing that either. We're not doing the decorations,
we're not doing the hat.

Speaker 3 (05:32):
We're just going to do it all at the restaurant.

Speaker 2 (05:34):
I don't know, Longhorn has some really good cheesecakes. I
think it's just gonna be cheesecake tonight. Yeah, tonight, I.

Speaker 1 (05:42):
Got a prize for you, but it's gonna have to
wait till I get home and and our daughter goes
to sleep.

Speaker 3 (05:49):
I knew it was dirty.

Speaker 1 (05:50):
I knew it. Happy Birthday. It's the Javan Sandy Show.
Make sure you grab the podcast edition as well. We've
got more coming up on Austin eighties station what O
three point one. This Saturday Night Live reunion is a big,
big deal, and we were wondering if there was one
person in particular who's been on the outs with Saturday
Night Live for years would be invited back. Trisha's gonna

(06:13):
let us know in the story. We love in just
a moment, but before we get the bet, got ourselves.
A roller skating pop up in Austin, Texas. Is that
what I'm hearing?

Speaker 4 (06:23):
I was just reading about this. It's pretty interesting. It's
it's it's going on through tomorrow. Unfortunately not the best weather. Yeah,
a couple of weeks ago we had like the freakiest
best weather ever. But they're doing these Barbie roller skate
pop ups in Austin. There's one through tomorrow at Wonderless
Wine Company. I'm looking at a picture of it. You know,

(06:45):
you know they make the little makeshift skating rink like
its Whole Foods. Yeah, yeah, that picture, yeah, picture of
that is just a roller skating rink at at the
coffee shop. And they're coming back at Dude again. If
you can't make it there tomorrow again. This isn't the
best weather for them, but it's going to be back

(07:06):
April fourth through June fifteenth.

Speaker 3 (07:09):
Wow, it's a good run.

Speaker 4 (07:12):
It's just a Barbie pop up roller skate. Roller Skating
seems to be making a comeback. My daughter's twenty three
and she and her friends like to go roller skating,
which I think is really funny.

Speaker 1 (07:24):
It is making a big comeback. We've had some skating
events lately with our daughter. She had a birthday party
roller skating and then they just went roller skating. It
was last summer. It was so hot. That's what's great.
You get into the air condition at the roller skating rinking.
You know my theory, JB. Every roller skate rink in
the world, I don't care where you go, they all
smell the same. They had that that wax smell for

(07:51):
the floor, and then you've got kind of teenage body
odor mixed in with cheap perfume and cologne and popcorn licorice. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
they all. Dresha's got a lot of memories from roller
skating at Hot Wheels back in the day.

Speaker 2 (08:06):
Hot Wheels on Manshak and Stastiny. I can't even imagine
how many hours I logged skating in a circle on
that rink, and I always wanted the pom poms to
go on top of my skates. Weren't rich enough to
have that, but I mean, oh my god, so many
memories of skating, and even to this day, at skating rinks,

(08:27):
there's always one single dude who's really really good at skating,
just going around and around and doing all this cool
moves and the spins and stuff like that still happens
to this day.

Speaker 1 (08:39):
Yeah, there's a lot of adults that skate, and at
first I was kind of taken back by it, like, well,
that's kind of weird, But then I get it. That's
their exercise, that's their thing. Yeah, and skating with your
own music and headphones. This thing no longer is the
roller skate, the roller skating DJ, the god of all
the man people are listening to their own tunes at the.

Speaker 3 (08:59):
Booth, the DJ booth, the skating rink.

Speaker 1 (09:01):
DJ used to have all the power, yes, sad right, yes,
all the power, yeah, not anymore.

Speaker 3 (09:07):
All the girls were in love with them, yeah.

Speaker 1 (09:10):
And he was probably like what seventeen or eighteen.

Speaker 2 (09:14):
Probably, but he was in the booth that was up high,
so you to go up to him and look up,
and they had it set up perfectly.

Speaker 1 (09:19):
Will you play Funky Town? Please play the stories we love? Okay?

Speaker 2 (09:27):
So this fiftieth anniversary show anniversary special for SNL is huge.
They have been releasing four part documentaries about it. They
had something on NBC a couple of nights ago about
all the musical acts. This Friday the fourteenth is going
to be a homecoming show, and then on Sunday the sixteenth,

(09:47):
finally is the big anniversary special. Some of the people
they've already announced we're going to host and be involved
in the specialer Adam Sandler, Kristin Wig, Adam Sandberg, Jason
sudeikis just to name a few. And I have been
wondering if Chebby Chase was gonna get invited back because
they have said for years the only previous cast member

(10:07):
who will not be returning to host is Chevy Chase,
supposedly because he was so difficult.

Speaker 3 (10:12):
To work with.

Speaker 1 (10:13):
Not by his choice, no.

Speaker 2 (10:16):
By their choice. Maybe by his choice too, I don't know.
But they just released a new round of announcements as
to other previous cast members first cast members who will
be helping out, and chevy Chase's name is on the list.
He will be there in some capacity along with Eddie Murphy,
Garrett Morris, Jane Curtin, and Lorraine Newman like the Ogs

(10:39):
of Essay. Yeah, and I believe this Saturday night, the
episode they're playing is the very first episode ever broadcast for.

Speaker 1 (10:49):
US and L.

Speaker 4 (10:50):
That'll be interesting to watch to see how it holds
up and what it looks like today.

Speaker 2 (10:54):
Right, Yeah, I mean, yes, the Today's Show is getting
in on it. But they picked the top sixteen most
memorable clips from all of SNL's fifty years, and then
they brought it down to the top eight like they're
totally having people vote to declare the winner. I guess
on Friday, like everybody's Karnaki, the guy who does all

(11:16):
the stats and stuff.

Speaker 3 (11:18):
He's in on it. It's a big thing.

Speaker 4 (11:20):
Man who like, off the top of your head, best
player of all time. I know, it's hard to compare
errors same we have the same thing in sports, right,
You're hearing different generations, different eras.

Speaker 1 (11:32):
For me, it'd be tough to top Eddie Murphy doing
buck Wheat and James Brown and stuff. It'd be really
hard for you know, James Brown and the hot tub.

Speaker 3 (11:42):
I mean, come on, yeah, that's a good win.

Speaker 4 (11:45):
I'd probably have to say either Will Ferrell or Kristin Wig.
And I'm thinking of if I'm comparing it to those classics,
so you know, like blushy ackroyd Moy and all that,
I'd say they if you added up the more consistent
top bits. Yeah, home runs they probably have more.

Speaker 2 (12:05):
Yeah, I love Gilda radnera Dana Her.

Speaker 3 (12:11):
Yeah, they're all good.

Speaker 1 (12:13):
You know. It's so one of their skits that's so
stupid but still kills me if I pull it up
and watch it on YouTube is Land Shark. Yeah, random
kills me when I watch it.

Speaker 4 (12:26):
Well, they did that to be you know the story
behind it. They did it because America was terrified of
sharks because of Jaws.

Speaker 3 (12:33):
Oh that's right after then, So they.

Speaker 4 (12:37):
Just add this big costume shark just showing up at
people's doors and you hear the music and like knocking
on the door, can't you.

Speaker 1 (12:44):
Hear the music?

Speaker 4 (12:45):
Like we know what's on the other side of the door.
It's very clever and silly and silly.

Speaker 1 (12:51):
It was really funny.

Speaker 4 (12:52):
I mean, you know what I'm staring at right now.
My wife has framed her old mister Bill T shirt.
That's old school right there.

Speaker 1 (13:03):
Yeah, that's funny. It's gonna be fun to watch because
The's gonna be a lot of stuff that we may
have forgotten about, are had thought of in a long time,
and to see it come back will be awesome to
be fun. I'm glad Chevy's going to be there too.
Even though Chevy's got it, he's a little difficult, as
they say, to work with. But that's the fans. The
fans would want to see Chevy Chase back there, right definitely.

Speaker 4 (13:24):
I mean he kicked off the you know, the news
segment right the weekend update. We can kind of set
the bar for that, you know, and that's continued till today.

Speaker 1 (13:33):
Who did that the best? The weekend?

Speaker 3 (13:36):
Jamie's got a lot of opinions on that.

Speaker 4 (13:38):
I know we've talked about this. I think once my
My personal favorite is Norm McDonald.

Speaker 1 (13:43):
Yeah, yeah, it was good. So then when does this
argant Tricia. You're probably told us already about Friends.

Speaker 2 (13:50):
There's there's a special on Friday Night, Like it's kind
of the kickoff weekend to the big fiftieth anniversary special.
The big one is Sunday on NBC. Saturday Night is
in the regular time slot. They're airing the original Saturday
Night Live episode and Friday they're having another homecoming concert
special and all this on NBC.

Speaker 1 (14:12):
All right, still to come on the show today. A
reminder you got a chance to win one thousand dollars
coming up at nine o'clock, so be listening for that.
And also, there's a band from the late seventies early
eighties that is kind of campaigning to get into the
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and receive honors at
the Kennedy Center, and I'm all for it. I don't
know how they've been overlooked. We'll tell you who it is.

(14:35):
I'd like your guys take as well. Stay with us.
It's coming up on Austin's eighties station one O three
point one. A band from the seventies and eighties want
a Kennedy Center Honor and they want to be in
the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and I'm all
for it. We'll tell you who that band is in
just a minute. Thanks for being with us. It's The
JB and Sandy Show and you can find us on

(14:56):
Facebook search. The JB and Sandy Morning Show also grabbed
the pot cast version of the show on the iHeartRadio
app Real Quick, Did you guys happen to see that
Tiger Wood's mother passed away?

Speaker 3 (15:07):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (15:08):
I did see a blurb about it. I guess it
just got kind of buried with all the Super Bowl
hype and other things going on.

Speaker 2 (15:15):
Yeah, he's supposed to play in a tournament I think
this weekend.

Speaker 3 (15:18):
He pulled out of it because of her passing.

Speaker 1 (15:20):
Yeah, the Genesis Imitational, which is being played this weekend,
and he's not going to play in it. I can't
really say that I blame him, right, His dad passed
away a few years ago. Now his mother has passed
away too. And it's funny because I was just watching
there doing He's got this new indoor golf league. I
don't know if you guys have heard about it, Total
Golf now, and she was there. They hid into a simulator,

(15:41):
and it's all kinds of different rules and stuff. But
I just saw her on TV watching it, and so
now they hear that she had passed away. I was
kind of surprised anyway. The band that wants to a
Kennedy Center honor and also wants to be in the
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is the Village People.
I'm all for it.

Speaker 2 (16:01):
We're just talking about roller skating. They were a huge
part of my roller skating life, right, sure.

Speaker 1 (16:06):
They sure were, right Yeah, And then.

Speaker 4 (16:08):
Man, they do belong in the Rock and Roll Hall
of Fame.

Speaker 1 (16:11):
Absolutely, they belong in there. If you think about who's
gotten in, they definitely should be part of that crowd.

Speaker 3 (16:18):
Like y check what means.

Speaker 1 (16:20):
It's hard.

Speaker 4 (16:20):
It's easy to disregard it as a novelty act, but
that's what made it so great. And it is Kiss
in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame because they're
a novelty act and didn't have a little less they
didn't have hits like the Village People.

Speaker 1 (16:33):
That's true. I'm gonna find out if Kiss was is in.
I don't know if they are not.

Speaker 2 (16:37):
Here's something I didn't know the song guy MCA. It's
been inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame, and it
has been selected by the Library of Congress for preservation
in the National Recording Registry. That's big. That seems fancy
for the village people, didn't it?

Speaker 1 (16:54):
Yeah? Does Jbie To answer your question, Yes, Kiss was
inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in
twenty fourteen. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (17:00):
So those people had a lot more hits. Not that
it's about writing hits, but like, and it did a lot.
You know, there's a lot of It did a lot
for equality without even probably realizing it at the time.

Speaker 1 (17:14):
I just want to know how each one of them
decided what character they were going to be. How did
the construction workers say, yes, that's my gimmick I'm going
to be. How did the Native Americans say, Yep, that's
going to be my gimmick. You know what I mean.

Speaker 4 (17:29):
They put them all on a piece of paper and
draw from a hat.

Speaker 3 (17:33):
Where two of them wanted to be the cowboy. Had
they worked that out?

Speaker 1 (17:36):
They had adopt the cowboy? Yeah, they had to fist
fight to see who gets to be it.

Speaker 2 (17:40):
Yeah, there's a cowboy, a construction worker, the Native American
motorcycle rider, oh yeah, uh. And then there's a guy
who just has on jeans and a T shirt and suspenders.
I'm not sure what he's doing. And then there's a
guy in all leather. I don't know what he's doing,
but I.

Speaker 1 (17:59):
Mean, yeah, I know what he's doing.

Speaker 3 (18:03):
I don't know what he's doing.

Speaker 1 (18:05):
Well, I think pretty much a consensus amongst us. Yes, right, yeah, yeah,
of course I don't even know.

Speaker 4 (18:14):
Go ahead, because their songs still get played at every
big party, reunion, wedding, like there is big, if not
bigger than they were as original hits.

Speaker 2 (18:25):
Yeah, they just got played at our fifteen year old
daughter's military ball just this past.

Speaker 1 (18:29):
Weekend, and the kids knew every word, right.

Speaker 3 (18:32):
Every word every word in.

Speaker 1 (18:35):
The Navy, Yeah, you can sell the seven Sis and
do you remember that's the that's the overlooked hit. Everyone
remembers y m c A right, but they don't remember
in the Navy.

Speaker 2 (18:45):
So, yeah, they have a lot more songs, like when
I read the names of the songs, like, oh yeah,
I forgot about that Macho Man, Oh I forgot about man.

Speaker 1 (18:56):
Yeah what a band. Huh. They should definitely be in
and get the Kennedy Center honor. So there you go.
It's the JV and Sandy our thanks for being with us.
We do this every day, Monday through Friday, seven until
eight am. Hopefully you'll be here for it. Stick around
more coming up on Austin's eighty station one oh three
point one. Thanks for listening. We'll see you on the

(19:16):
radio every morning from six until ten on Austin's eighty
station one oh three point one and streaming on the
