Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's the JV and Sandy hour and U I mean
over the weekend. Just crazy that we're in the mid
nineties in late October. But looking ahead a little bit
because you know, you can't get a weather forecast anywhere,
so I'm gonna go ahead and give.
Speaker 2 (00:13):
It really in case you phone batteries, exactly in case
you just have it looked.
Speaker 1 (00:23):
We're gonna get rain starting Wednesday, and it looks like
the rain could last for almost a week. We're talking
like better than a forty percent chance of rain each
day for the next week and highs in the loan
eighties and upper seventies, which is nice, nice little, nice
little break from the heat, which would be great.
Speaker 2 (00:42):
I have a question for you as we You know,
it sounds silly to say head into winter, but heading
into rain first, because you know, Austin, Austin nights wet.
We're soft with the where babies, you guys. I don't
you know. I'm only on the show an hour. I'm
assuming you have been talking about your new walking thing.
(01:05):
You guys are going on these like four mile walks
every day, which I think is amazing.
Speaker 3 (01:09):
We're a couple walkers.
Speaker 1 (01:10):
We are, We're doing it, but we're trying not to
be that annoying couple that talks about it all the time.
Speaker 2 (01:15):
I know, but I think it's great. I think it's
really cool.
Speaker 4 (01:18):
Four and a half miles a day, that's a lot.
It's one hundred miles a month.
Speaker 2 (01:23):
That's really cool. Yeah, I mean, get some tea matching
t shirts. But as we start to get into inclement weather,
how is that going to affect your walking game? That's
part part of the question. Two Are you going to
(01:45):
become mallwalkers?
Speaker 3 (01:47):
Surely not.
Speaker 5 (01:49):
I'm embarrassed a little bit that we're a couple walkers,
so we cannot crossover to mallwalkers.
Speaker 3 (01:54):
We can't do it. Sandy.
Speaker 1 (01:55):
I know why she's embarrassed, because I guarantee you everyone
that sees a walking on the trail, they're like, oh,
that that woman's so sweet. She's trying to get her
fat husband back to shit. She's the sweetest woman in
the world. She's so fit, her big slob husband. She's
walking behind me.
Speaker 3 (02:17):
He's just a little bit inside in front of Sandy.
Speaker 2 (02:19):
And again, I know you don't. You don't want to
like talk about it too much because this is a
very personal thing. But I think you did share with
me that you lost ten pounds, like pretty quick.
Speaker 1 (02:29):
Yeah, I've lost and that we've it's been exactly four
weeks since we've started walking and really on an eating right.
That the smash burger was my first cheat mail in
a month. That was that was it? Yeah, the only.
Speaker 4 (02:42):
Thing I've cheated on. No candy, no ice cream.
Speaker 5 (02:45):
Jab Did you hear him after he ate his first
smash burger? Did you hear him go, I feel like
I want to go get another one?
Speaker 3 (02:50):
And I was all.
Speaker 5 (02:51):
Easy, big fella, down one's fine, Like he freaked out
a little bit.
Speaker 1 (02:57):
But I got on the scale yesterday morning and I've
twelve pounds, So that's impressive.
Speaker 2 (03:02):
Yeah, what's funny. I like I like that. I think
you guys have a good mindset on it, because like forever,
I always you know, I've always liked running and cycling
and stuff like that, and I always, for the longest time,
I thought you had to do something intense or it
wasn't worth doing, which is stupid. That is just you hurt. Stupid. Yeah,
(03:23):
and then you know, I read now about the benefits
of just walking, you know, thirty minutes. Then the the
stats will say three times a week. Right, Yeah, it's
very conservative the benefits of it. So the fact that
y'all are doing that is awesome, that's incredible. But what
is the plan for the rank? Because again, Austinite cannot
(03:48):
I don't, I mean your native Austinite, especially Tricia. It's like,
and I've lived here since as a kid, like, if
it's below sixty degrees, I'm like, uh, I know, it's pathetic.
It's pathetic. But on the other if you're laughing at me,
that's fine because when it's one hundred and five, I'll
(04:08):
go on a bike ride.
Speaker 3 (04:09):
I don't care, won't even think twice about one hundred
and five.
Speaker 2 (04:12):
Doesn't matter. Really, what are you guys gonna do? Because
we do get these days where it's just like you know,
you know what it is and Austin it blows in
and out for two or three days. It could be freezing,
it could be it could be freezing rain, it could
be whatever, what's your plan or have you even thought
about it?
Speaker 3 (04:31):
We don't have a rain plan. I already let Sandy know.
Speaker 5 (04:34):
It's like, dude, if think gets like super cold, I
ain't walking with you.
Speaker 3 (04:37):
He's like, I'm doing it.
Speaker 4 (04:38):
I'm going I'm going to get the right gear.
Speaker 1 (04:41):
In fact, I want to know you had on a
pair of I think they're called trainers the other day
when we had lunch at Jack Allen's. I'm like where,
I want to know where you got those, because I'm
gonna get some new clothes for the cold weather. They're
like they were like sweatpants, but they were super cool.
Speaker 4 (04:54):
Had them day.
Speaker 2 (04:56):
Yeah, it's Viry viewry Ohyory, and it's not cheap honestly,
but it's worth every penny for well, like how do
you spell it?
Speaker 3 (05:06):
V u O R I.
Speaker 2 (05:08):
Yeah, it's the best that I've found. Men's like athletic
apparel if you want to call it that. But I
found it because it's it's like great lake stuff too. Yeah, well, I'll.
Speaker 4 (05:20):
Just always do.
Speaker 1 (05:21):
I'll search it on Amazon and then I'll get the
Amazon basics of it cheap, the cheap version of it.
Speaker 5 (05:29):
It's your Oh, you're re you recreating your childhood Sandy,
never the name brand, always getting the knockoff.
Speaker 2 (05:37):
You're doing it at the base at the Air Force base.
Speaker 1 (05:40):
Yeah, you know, the the new Nikes came out nineteen
seventy eight. We got them in nineteen eighty you know,
and that's yeah. Apparently my parents didn't know that you
could shop anywhere but on the base.
Speaker 4 (05:54):
Like, no, we're a military family. We're not allowed to
go to the mall.
Speaker 3 (05:58):
Did you give up?
Speaker 2 (05:59):
Yeah? So let me ask you this. Do you guys
have a gym membership? If you if you, if push
came to shove, could you go on a treadmill?
Speaker 4 (06:07):
Yeah? I would suck though. We've talked about that all
the time.
Speaker 6 (06:10):
But part of it's getting outside, right, yes, yeah, yeah, yeah,
the sun and being outside and all that.
Speaker 5 (06:16):
We're we have a membership at the rec center at
Cedar Park and they have an indoor walking track, but
it's so small you have to go around like eighteen
times for it to be like one mile. How you
feel like you've walked forever before you even hit one mile,
you know what I mean.
Speaker 2 (06:33):
And I'm big on the get outside every day thing too. Yeah,
I think that's important. But push comes to shove, like
are you going to take it indoors or are you
going to gear up and go outside? Which is a challenge.
Speaker 1 (06:47):
I'm I'm in the mindset right now that if I
have I got to get it in I'm just like,
I've got to get this in and so if I
have to, if it's too cold or raining or whatever, yeah,
I'll go up to the to the rec center and
get on the treadmill and suck it up for that,
you know, just do it.
Speaker 2 (07:05):
And there are a lot of like and you know,
runners and cyclists or whatever that'll say there's no such
thing as bad weather, just bad gear. Like, yeah, if
you get the right gear, you can do it. Yeah,
that's true. You know, so that your postal carrier has
figured it out.
Speaker 3 (07:22):
Surely we can.
Speaker 1 (07:24):
We met a lot of cool dogs on the trail too.
There's a lot of people out, yeah, walking their dogs.
And Austin's still the home of the broken dog. I
mean there's you know what I mean, and the adopted dog.
And have you ever seen the dog in the that's
got like wheels on his back on his back?
Speaker 3 (07:42):
Yeah, paralyzed.
Speaker 2 (07:43):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (07:44):
We met his dog on Sunday when we walked and
we were like, oh, what's your dog's name? And he goes,
her name's Emma, and he goes, I call her Emma girl.
Like that was just sweet, Like he loves his dog.
I call her Emma girl.
Speaker 1 (07:59):
You know what actually kind of something else about this.
Have you've been thinking about trying to get into some
sort of exercise? Just try walking? I mean, just go
for a thirty minute walk, get a decent pair of
tennis shoes and just walk. That's all you gotta do.
It's good for you. Like Jimmy said, you've seen it.
You've read about the benefits of just walking for thirty
(08:19):
minutes a day. It's believable, right, and it adds up
quick if you can't go. But maybe where do we walk?
The first time? It was four weeks ago yesterday that
we started? How far was that first walk?
Speaker 2 (08:30):
For? A mile? Oh?
Speaker 5 (08:32):
A mile and a half round trip, like we just
had to figure out where we were smile and a
half less than two miles, moved up to two just
slowly keep adding to it.
Speaker 4 (08:41):
Right, and now you.
Speaker 2 (08:43):
Do you walk? Your watch? Did you go from right
out your door? Or do you drive to walk?
Speaker 4 (08:47):
No, we drive somewhere to walk.
Speaker 2 (08:49):
A far step That says a lot like That's that
an extra layer right there?
Speaker 1 (08:55):
It's like five minutes away from where we start. But
so far, so good. And I've got a number in
mind that I want to get down to and I've
got a ways to go, but certainly on the right path.
Speaker 4 (09:06):
Right now, Patricia's got to slow it down sometimes, girl.
Speaker 3 (09:09):
Oh dude, you got to speed it up. We're trying
to get to a chifteen minute mile.
Speaker 1 (09:13):
I'm one, I'm one gear one step away from jogging,
you know what I mean.
Speaker 4 (09:21):
Yeah, And I'm like, oh, but.
Speaker 3 (09:25):
Myself, it's your heart rate up.
Speaker 5 (09:27):
It gets it's the whole point of being out there
to walk, but to get some cardiovascular you know, benefits
from it as well.
Speaker 3 (09:34):
So you got to get it up. You got to
keep pushing right.
Speaker 4 (09:37):
And how you talk so much and walk, I don't know,
I do it. Got a lot mighty to say.
Speaker 5 (09:43):
I'm not brand new to this walking thing like you are.
I'm kind of a professional. But you're getting better.
Speaker 3 (09:48):
You're you're not having a puffin as much.
Speaker 1 (09:51):
Like No, right there, I haven't asked to I've asked
you to slow down one time.
Speaker 3 (09:55):
Yeah, and I keep pushing through.
Speaker 4 (09:57):
I say, like, my damn, pick it easy, all right?
Coming up?
Speaker 1 (10:02):
JB went to somewhere over the weekend that I promise
you ninety nine point nine percent of you have been
to and you've been going there for a decade and
you don't know how you lived without it. We're going
to tell you what it is. And what I really
want to know is what got you there? Why did you?
Why was this weekend the weekend that you did this?
(10:24):
Because you really picked the wrong day to do it.
Speaker 2 (10:26):
I hated.
Speaker 4 (10:27):
So stay with us, all right, that's coming up next.
Speaker 1 (10:32):
If you're just joining us, you can listen to the
entire thing music free by downloading the podcast.
Speaker 4 (10:39):
Here's what you gotta do. It's kind of goofy, but
stay with me.
Speaker 1 (10:42):
Search the Sandy Show podcast, look for the ones labeled
the JB and Sandy Show, all right, and there's a
lot of people that are listening to this. It's funny
because we can see the statistics on it and people
will download the podcast the next day, you know, like
they're day behind on everything, which is fine.
Speaker 4 (10:58):
I don't care. That's great.
Speaker 1 (11:00):
But it's there for you and you can download it
on our list, stream it on the iHeart radio app.
Speaker 2 (11:05):
More reason to keep those weather reports coming.
Speaker 4 (11:07):
All right, exactly.
Speaker 1 (11:10):
They're so damn hard to find these days, I'm telling you,
But are you guys like me? Before we get into
what JB did over the weekend that ninety nine percent
of you have been doing for probably ten years.
Speaker 4 (11:21):
But do you guys? Are you like me?
Speaker 1 (11:23):
I still want to know the weather from the local
weather man on TV. I guess that's just old, but
I just still want to.
Speaker 2 (11:31):
Know what Yeah, I'm okay because I don't excuse me, right,
I don't think look at it on your phone is
very accurate at all.
Speaker 3 (11:40):
Yeah, it's definitely discrepancies.
Speaker 4 (11:42):
What's my girl in the morning? What's her name?
Speaker 3 (11:45):
Oh, Kristin Curry.
Speaker 4 (11:47):
Kristin Curry.
Speaker 5 (11:49):
I like her too, Sandy loves Kristin Curry. She's my
favorite in the morning. I'm still in morning and missing
Jim Spencer, though he pops in and out every once
in a while.
Speaker 1 (11:59):
And then Jim Spencer's replacement got snatched up and is
now in Chicago. I can't remember that guy's name, do you?
Speaker 3 (12:05):
David? David is his first name, David Yeoman.
Speaker 6 (12:10):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (12:11):
It took me a long time to let Jim Spencer
go and accept David Yeoman, And right when I did,
he got snatched up to Chicago. Jim Spencer stepped back
in for a little while. I was happy, but now
he's been replaced again. Not that you could replace Jim Spencer. Mind,
you're just.
Speaker 4 (12:26):
Going to strange love for Jim Spencer.
Speaker 7 (12:28):
Have Jim Spencer, JB. Tell everybody where are you joined
this weekend? This is going to sound really stupid, and
I can't. This is my first time setting foot in
and I did join, if you want to call it that,
I'm now a Jehovah's witness.
Speaker 4 (12:44):
No, I leave for my mission on Thursday. Nice knowing
you guys.
Speaker 2 (12:53):
No, I went to a Costco.
Speaker 6 (12:57):
I never welcome to Costco city. Welcome, Welcome, Welcome. Yeah,
And it's interesting. I don't know why. I'm trying to
think of why I haven't been to one. So I've
been to a.
Speaker 2 (13:10):
Sam's right, and I just assumed they were exactly the same.
They're not Costco. And then I think part of it
is a pushback on the California invasion, right, Like I
don't go to In and Outs because they have a
good burger. I don't go to Trader Joe's. Same thing.
(13:30):
I've never stepped with the Trader Joe's. Just I'm pushing
back on the on the California stuff for now, but
not anymore with Costco.
Speaker 7 (13:40):
Yeah, you're in, right, yeah, it got you.
Speaker 2 (13:44):
So we were we were going by my mother in
law's place to help her with something, and she lives
near the Costco South Nopak and Aaron was like, we
got to go by Costco Costco before they close, Like okay.
The reason we went was she wanted to get a membership,
(14:05):
and why not get both of us memberships? She has
she worked for an event company and they're doing a
big wedding and Cabo coming and there's a lot of
things they need to pick up in Cabo at a Costco. Oh,
I need a membership and she she has a friend
(14:26):
in the and they do look a lot alike uh,
and she's used their membership card before and I think
they got rejected once, Like wait, oh are they? And
so she's like we got to get by there. So
we get there like no, thirty minutes before they close
(14:47):
and we get the membership, which was you know, I
couldn't believe how busy it was, Like it what eight
what do they close at nine eight thirty pm or
something like this, eight eight eight pm? I don't remember exactly,
but packed just going on here is that is a
hurricane coming and we're stocking up. I didn't get the memo,
(15:09):
do we need to get toilet paper again? But we
get we get the membership and all that. The woman
could not have been any nicer, Like she must love
working there, I mean just really it was that was
kind of nice, you know. And so and then she
was funny. It was funny because we just got handed
to the membership and I don't even remember what days
she said to go or not, Like I just bought this.
(15:31):
She goes, yeah, you want to avoid this day in
this day. I just thought that was so funny. She
was trying to help me with the better days. Yeah,
so I could have a better experience. I guess right.
It's like spread it out people. And then and then
my wife, Aarin, was like, well, let's go poke around
real quick. The membership thing went pretty fast and we
(15:53):
got it and we were like, let's go poke around.
And I was walking around just going my my head
was spinning. I couldn't believe all the cool crap.
Speaker 3 (16:02):
Right, they have good stuff there.
Speaker 2 (16:04):
It's nice.
Speaker 3 (16:05):
Yeah, it's good stuff.
Speaker 2 (16:07):
I was sort of mind blown, like, oh my god,
like and it was some of it was stuff you
could use. Some of it was just fun stuff that
you don't need at all, right, yeah, like you know
this time of year there, they have a lot of
big Halloween decorations and Christmas decorations, and it's like this
(16:27):
could get out of hand.
Speaker 4 (16:29):
So fallow.
Speaker 2 (16:30):
Yeah, and just I mean I literally was like I
gotta go for now. I'm I don't know this is
this could be dangerous.
Speaker 3 (16:41):
Like it's overwhelming too.
Speaker 1 (16:43):
So it's so so much clothing, Yeah, a little great stuff.
Speaker 4 (16:49):
I got a sweatshirt there the other day for nine nine.
Speaker 5 (16:53):
I mean the best pajama pants costco cheap.
Speaker 4 (16:58):
Oh my god, did you get a hot dog?
Speaker 2 (17:01):
No, we didn't eat anything while we're there, but I
was surprised at how many people were eating there.
Speaker 1 (17:05):
Oh yeah, it's great. I mean i'd go there so
I used to. I'll go there for lunch. I'll get
a pizza to go there, nine ninety nine. Great pizza.
Speaker 2 (17:12):
Oh and I saw it like a lot of like
young families, like they probably were at their kids' sports event. Yeah,
what a great place to go feature kids.
Speaker 1 (17:22):
Right, absolutely can't get into a Chick fil A, you
might as well go there.
Speaker 2 (17:26):
Yeah, right, so quick fully, we just bought like this
bulk of cashews in this book of other Keto nuts.
And then I saw this one thing and I was like,
you gotta be kidding me. It is It is a
pre cooked, boxed up burnt ends brisket.
Speaker 4 (17:45):
Yep, I've seen that's the city style.
Speaker 2 (17:48):
Kidding me.
Speaker 4 (17:50):
Yeah, their meats are great.
Speaker 3 (17:53):
Makes it better somehow.
Speaker 2 (17:55):
Yeah, whenever I get brisket like a at a barbecue place,
say yes. I was asked if they have burnt it's
Chris beer in case. Oh gotcha.
Speaker 4 (18:03):
It can be.
Speaker 2 (18:03):
It can be. It's a it's a thin line. It
can be overdone and everything's dried out, right, But if
it's still juicy and the ends are burnt.
Speaker 3 (18:11):
Woo, you're all in a whole box of them.
Speaker 4 (18:16):
I was like.
Speaker 2 (18:17):
And then I was like, we got to stop. We
just got to stop for now. I'll come back. I
got to go home and regroup.
Speaker 3 (18:23):
Oh yeah, you go out.
Speaker 2 (18:25):
And take it all in because it could be so
dangerous in They're like, but I was thinking about my daughter.
My daughter's twenty two, she's been living on her own
for two and a half years. Like this, Where was
this when we were twenty two years old?
Speaker 4 (18:40):
Right? Yeah, even just for your toilet tries right.
Speaker 2 (18:44):
Now, although we did have like thirty nine cent tacos
at Taco Bell when we were that age. That was
a good time. I'll take twelve, yeah right, but yeah,
I'm like, I can't wait to take her there and
like stock up on some stuff just you know, you
hate you know how like she won't ask, she'll just
go hungry. Right, Yeah. I just I was just couldn't
(19:07):
believe all the things they had, whether it was you know,
sporting goods or toys or computers hires they have. They
have a whole entire section. But I was a little overwhelmed.
Speaker 1 (19:21):
But wow, next time you go, grab a big barrel
of the peanut butter pretzels, their little nugget pretzels with
peanut butter on the inside.
Speaker 4 (19:31):
Check out.
Speaker 2 (19:33):
Almost grabbed them and I'm much allergic to peanuts. I
almost grabbed them stuff.
Speaker 3 (19:39):
He would have taken it anyway.
Speaker 4 (19:41):
JB. Welcome to the Kirkling Club man.
Speaker 5 (19:44):
There too a good gas.
Speaker 2 (19:48):
And then she's telling me, oh, you can get you
can get car insurance here, you can get health benefits.
We have a travel like what they have.
Speaker 5 (19:56):
The prescription uh refills too, they options as well.
Speaker 3 (20:01):
It's amazing.
Speaker 1 (20:01):
They're the biggest golden silver dealer in America.
Speaker 2 (20:06):
L like golden sid get to invest in it.
Speaker 3 (20:08):
Bars, yeah, or like teeth.
Speaker 4 (20:13):
Take your silver bar that you get at Costco and
take it to your dentist. We'll not a record here.
Put this in the front too.
Speaker 2 (20:19):
I remember hearing that they're the number one wine retailer
in the country.
Speaker 1 (20:23):
I believe it. I believe it. And then JB he
didn't trusture. He didn't even know about the check at
the end of the year.
Speaker 3 (20:30):
Oh, they give you money back.
Speaker 5 (20:32):
Wow, this place the some percentage of what you spend
you get a check in the mail or sent to
you to use.
Speaker 3 (20:42):
Like we get like four or five hundred bucks back
a year just to check.
Speaker 2 (20:46):
Yeah. How often do you go? Is this like a
two weeks?
Speaker 3 (20:50):
Really?
Speaker 5 (20:50):
I mean we were kind of resistant to it at first,
but now we're like, oh, we don't have nearly enough.
Like cashews, We're constantly buying nuts from Costco. That's a
weird thing to always get. But I would say we
go to least twice a month. Yeah, every couple of weeks.
Speaker 4 (21:06):
Just wow, up on stuff.
Speaker 5 (21:07):
Percentage of what you spend in a year, you get
that back in a check.
Speaker 2 (21:11):
There's a comic. I wish I could remember his right
name right the second, but he talks about how he's
he's hit the point in his life where he's fine
with Kirkland pants.
Speaker 1 (21:20):
We played that clip. Yeah, oh, what was it? If
you remember his name, I know I've got it right here.
Speaker 3 (21:28):
It was a random name.
Speaker 5 (21:30):
And but JB, look out, you're well on the road
to be in the Kirkland pants guy.
Speaker 2 (21:34):
If you're not careful and nicky style jumpsuit, give me
one too, get me one to I'll pay you back.
Speaker 1 (21:42):
I promise you. I promise you well. JB, welcome to
the club man. You found it, But you're right taking
easy in there.
Speaker 4 (21:51):
You know.
Speaker 2 (21:53):
I think it's chin Wang. Is that how?
Speaker 3 (21:55):
