Speaker 1 (00:00):
Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to what will be the final
taxpayer Relief Shop Friday on k HOW. But don't worry,
Taxpayer Relief Shop Friday will continue on KOA and rest
assured there would be plenty of double clicks and plenty
of hearing Michael say, that's a good taxpayer release shot
(00:20):
right there.
Speaker 2 (00:21):
Caution, you are about to experience the taxpayer relief shot
segment on the situation with Michael Brown. Caution, you are
about to experience the taxpayer relief shot segment on the
situation with Michael Brown. We do not necessarily relish the
death of any criminal, but we do celebrate our God
given and constitutional right to self defense in the event
(00:42):
that the criminal becomes DRT. The taxpayers spared the cost
of public defenders, court costs, incarceration, and continued parole supervision.
As the Sheriff of Santa Rosa County, Florida says, insert
audio here, Our Sheriff Grady of Polk County says, insert
audio here. You have been warned listen at your own
(01:07):
risks Mike, that's button.
Speaker 3 (01:14):
And what exactly other than uh, that was a really
good text by relief shot right there. What do you
want me to say that one sucked? Just quick, no
commentary at all, We'll just blow right through.
Speaker 4 (01:28):
I would also add, if you're feeling the need to
send us a new rules of engagement with the textpayer
re leaef shots, you're more than welcome to. Yes, but
that one, by far is our favorite, and we'll be
in regular rotation and if you send one in, I'll
play it on occasion.
Speaker 3 (01:43):
Yeah, all right, except for next Friday. I think that
I think you would agree with me. We probably need
to explain these to the KOA audience. They need to
understand the full context of what we're trying to accomplish
with this segment, otherwise their heads may explode. We call
(02:07):
them taxpayer with these shots, primarily because somebody's breaking in
your house here, more than welcome to shoot him in
centaoise accounting.
Speaker 1 (02:13):
We prefer that you do actually hopefully you'll save the
taxpayer's money.
Speaker 3 (02:17):
Or such as Sheriff Grady down in Florida says, he.
Speaker 5 (02:21):
Asked to be shot, he demanded to be shot, and
then he forced us to shoot him, so we obliged him.
Speaker 3 (02:28):
And the rule or the thing that the lessons learned
from that is very.
Speaker 5 (02:33):
Simply, don't attack my deputies. Don't try to stab or
shoot my deputies, because if you do, we're going to
shoot you a lot.
Speaker 3 (02:45):
We're going to shoot you.
Speaker 2 (02:46):
A lot loser.
Speaker 3 (02:50):
And this sheriff who gives the gives a perfect psa
public service announcement about self defense everyone.
Speaker 6 (03:00):
Recently, lady called nine to one one here in Panell
County because someone was breaking into her house.
Speaker 7 (03:06):
There's some guy.
Speaker 3 (03:07):
He came to my door, but he went into my
neighbor's house.
Speaker 6 (03:10):
This dispatcher gave excellent advice. I'd like you to take
a moment and listen to it. He came into my garage.
Speaker 4 (03:15):
He's trying to get my back horse.
Speaker 8 (03:17):
Okay, lock your doors, keep them all locked.
Speaker 1 (03:19):
Do you have a firearm with you?
Speaker 9 (03:21):
I do.
Speaker 5 (03:21):
He's in my garage.
Speaker 6 (03:22):
He's trying to get in.
Speaker 10 (03:24):
Go get that firearm.
Speaker 11 (03:25):
I haven't don off.
Speaker 12 (03:26):
Heren't you Leah, he's in the garage.
Speaker 6 (03:31):
While the incident was still going on, sergeant was monitoring
the radio traffic and this is his direction that he gave.
Speaker 13 (03:37):
I got RPS the subjects trying to get in the
house down of the right to use force.
Speaker 6 (03:42):
I couldn't be more in agreement with what the direction
of my dispatcher gave and what the sergeant gave over
the radio. Remember, if you want personal protection, buy a gun,
learn how to use it, learn when you can use it.
I'm Sureriff Ross TEPO, and I approve of this message.
Speaker 3 (03:55):
Thank you, Sheriff. Now compare that to this police chief
of me in Canada, to Jim McSween, who has an
entirely opposite take. Which is why we do textpayer release shots.
Is because of idiots like this particular police chief.
Speaker 14 (04:09):
In the unlikely event that you find yourself the victim
of a home invasion, we are urging citizens not to
take matters into their own hands. We urge you to
call nine one one and do everything you can to
keep yourself and love one safe until police arrive.
Speaker 3 (04:23):
Everything that is accept Defend yourself, run, hide, you know,
jump in the closet. I don't know. Be the best
witness possible. Just couldn't God stay alive so you can
be a witness.
Speaker 14 (04:38):
In locking yourself in a room away from the perpetrators, hiding,
fleeing the home. But don't engage unless absolutely necessary. As
it stands, we know the best defense for most people
is to comply. As you've just heard, a number of
safety recommendations will allow for of those that are victimizing
(05:02):
members in the community to leave and not harm anyone.
And my advice is to ry on our play service
called nine one one immediately and let us take it
from there. And we see more often than not when
people comply.
Speaker 3 (05:23):
That's one of my favorite lines. We see more often
than not when people comply. But you know it's a
good outcome. Now those times when it's not, well, you know,
that's just that's just the cost of doing business the
way he wants to do business.
Speaker 14 (05:38):
You know, injuries are not are not happening, and people
are not victimized in terms of injury or or in
this case, unfortunately, we've seen the loss of life in
some of these incidents.
Speaker 9 (05:51):
You what, I still think he's referring to the bad guy.
Don't shoot the bad guy. We don't want you to
kill anybody.
Speaker 3 (05:58):
Right, don't don't do a thing. All Let's get to them,
and before we play this one, let me just say
this about this particular one. It's a damn good textpayer
relief shot. How's that does that make you happier?
Speaker 4 (06:11):
There we go it would be burglars dead tonight after
police say a homeowner opened fire on the man as
he tried to break into his home.
Speaker 15 (06:19):
Now, according to police, it all happened in broad daylight
at a home on Birch Circle in Riverdale.
Speaker 16 (06:24):
Fox five's Clear Sims joins us in the studio.
Speaker 17 (06:27):
Now, Clear, you just got some new information about this guy.
Speaker 18 (06:29):
Yeah, in just the last fifteen minutes, Riverdale Police released
the names of the now two suspects involved. Nineteen year
old John Dexter Williams died from his injuries, and investigators
have arrested has alleged to accomplice twenty two year old
Patrick Kemp.
Speaker 9 (06:45):
He would just particlar himself.
Speaker 18 (06:47):
Cynthia Harper doesn't blame her neighbor for opening fire on
a burglar Tuesday morning. According to Riverdale Police, a man
tried to break into this home on Birch Circle at
around ten forty five, but the homeowner was inside and
shot the man. First responders found the suspect injured nearby
and rushed him to the hospital in critical condition. Those
(07:09):
familiar with the neighborhood say they see a lot of
daytime property crime.
Speaker 5 (07:14):
They assume that nobody's at home, so a lot of
the neighbors they came together like, well, we might have
to get on, you know, just to protect ourselves, to
protect our family.
Speaker 9 (07:24):
I guess that will happen today.
Speaker 18 (07:26):
Neighbors hope this will send the message to those who
continue to target their subdivision.
Speaker 19 (07:31):
They probably thought that they was at work, because nine
times out ten people are at work that time of
the morning. But he had a treat for him today,
so maybe they'd think twice about going into someone else's
property again.
Speaker 18 (07:46):
Ververdell Police say they have charged that alleged accomplice Camp
with felony murder and burglary in the first degree. They
do not plan to charge the homeowner of Portia all right, Claire,
thank you?
Speaker 3 (07:57):
Well, of course enough they shouldn't charge the homeowner. Uh,
homeowner does something.
Speaker 12 (08:05):
From Lisa Benson with forty one Action News near sixty
ninth in Myrtle, where crimes and investigators are still on
scene after what lis are calling a home invasion that
led to gunfire. They tell us a man entered this
home early this morning. Someone inside the home open fire,
killing the sauspot, and somehow someone else inside the house
was also injured, with the gunfire, but those injuries are
(08:25):
not life threatening. Police again are still on scene in
the forty one Action News still collecting information as to
exactly what happened here overnight.
Speaker 3 (08:34):
Twenty eight seconds. I'm telling you nothing, Okay, well good,
I'm glad the homeowner was able to do that. But
tell me more, another homeowner.
Speaker 20 (08:46):
Had intruder broke into an elderly couple's home in Lakeland
overnight and he didn't make it out alive. He broke
into this home on the fifty four hundred.
Speaker 17 (08:54):
Go like that.
Speaker 3 (08:55):
He broke in and he didn't make it out alive.
Speaker 4 (08:58):
And I don't know about you, but I am partial
to wanting to start celebrating elderly.
Speaker 3 (09:05):
Oh you know, that's actually a pretty good point.
Speaker 20 (09:08):
Yes, block a decent road that's on Hillsboro Polk County line.
And get this, that intruder lived was one of their neighbors. Well,
either way, deputies say the homeowners didn't back down. The
man living there shot and killed the intruder. Now, this
is an active investigation and we have a crew at
the house right now trying to track the people down involved.
(09:30):
Will bring more on this story coming up tonight at
eleven o'clock now is Hillsboro.
Speaker 3 (09:35):
I don't remember it's Hillsboro in Polk County because if
Hillsborough's in Polk County, this is a Grady Judd case.
All right, another award winner. Two men try Are you serious?
Speaker 9 (09:52):
Don't mess with the blue collar guys man man.
Speaker 3 (09:55):
That's all I got to say about this one.
Speaker 16 (09:57):
Two men trying to rob a guard bridge man ended
up shoting was.
Speaker 3 (10:02):
It Donald Trump? Was it Trump in a truck?
Speaker 16 (10:06):
The man trying to rob a garbage man ended up
shot this morning by the trash collector himself cb as
New Chicago investigator Megan Hickey joins us live from the
scene in Chicago's Home and Square neighborhood.
Speaker 3 (10:18):
Other than it's Chicago, have you ever really thought that
a trash collector, a garbage man really needs to carry
just picking up garbage? Oh, good grief, what a world began.
Speaker 16 (10:35):
I understand your reporting found that the driver did have
a concealed carry license. Is in Chicago, Great Marie.
Speaker 11 (10:43):
And there would be would be robbers probably were not
counting on that fact. They approached him right here in
this alley. He was able to shoot both of them,
killing one man and critically wounding the other. It appears
the garbage truck driver was in the middle of a
shift around five point fifteen Friday morning when he was
approached by two men who tried to rob him at gunpoint.
(11:04):
The twenty eight year old driver then pulled out his
own gun, and police say they exchanged shots, wounding both
of the robbers. A forty two year old man was
shot in the head and pronounced dead on the scene.
The second offender, a twenty year old man, was shot
in the neck and taken to a local hospital in
critical condition. It looked like it was.
Speaker 21 (11:24):
That fired at the armed robber's firearms on heare.
Speaker 11 (11:29):
The driver wasn't hit, but was still transported to a
local hospital.
Speaker 17 (11:33):
Think that this.
Speaker 2 (11:35):
Guy complaining test name and within.
Speaker 11 (11:37):
Minutes police on the scene were able to confirm that
driver was licensed to carry the gun.
Speaker 22 (11:42):
That's a tadorn of CCO.
Speaker 23 (11:44):
As I keep pointing out the people, only the victim
and the perpetragger is at the scene of the crime, and.
Speaker 3 (11:50):
So you're on your own.
Speaker 11 (11:51):
Illinois State Rifle Association Executive Director Richard Pearson tells me
it's no surprise they've received more and more reports of
CCL holders defending them themselves in serious situations like these.
According to Illinois State Police data, last year, more than
one hundred and twenty eight thousand residents applied for a
license to carry a concealed weapon in Illinois. That's the
(12:11):
highest number of applications in at least ten years, and
nearly nineteen thousand more applicants than in twenty twenty three.
Speaker 3 (12:18):
We're seeing more and.
Speaker 23 (12:19):
More training on people with firearms and firearms safety, so
one side effect of the CEO as people are getting
safety training with their firearms, and Pearson.
Speaker 11 (12:32):
Says that firearms safety training likely helps in serious situations
like this. As for that other offender who was shot
in the neck, he was last listed in critical condition.
Live and Home and Square. Megan Hickey, CBS New Chicago Investigators,
Thank you, Megan.
Speaker 3 (12:46):
Thank you, Megan. That one surprises me because that news
report I wasn't paying attention to what affiliate that came from,
But that news report was actually pretty objective.
Speaker 24 (12:58):
One.
Speaker 3 (12:59):
They gave some stats the number of people are getting
concealed carry permits, and it was what nineteen thousand over
two nineteen thousand more than what it was two years ago.
And obviously Chicago so what's the natural response. Learn to
defend yourself. That's an excellent that's a pretty good tact.
(13:19):
Barry relief. Shot right there, Popo shooting killing an arm robbery.
Realqlick though, real quick that we do.
Speaker 4 (13:26):
We do have a text message that came in from
eighty seven to forty seven Mike, to clarify, I.
Speaker 9 (13:30):
Enjoy the that's a tax. That's a good text pay
lead chat right there. It wouldn't be the same without it.
Speaker 3 (13:36):
Thank you. Let's get to uh. This is a local one.
The Popo shoot and kill an armed robber.
Speaker 4 (13:44):
A Denver police shooting leaves a suspect dead and three
others hurt, including a police officer.
Speaker 25 (13:49):
This happened late Monday night at a Maverick gas station
on Parker Road, just north of the Cherry Creek Reservoir.
Your reporter Ashley Portio is at the gas station this morning,
and Ashley, we know an officer and two employees were
also shot.
Speaker 15 (14:04):
Michelle and Brian, good morning. So we're also learning this
morning that that officer ended up being shot in the
leg was then rushed to a Denver health where they
had surgery overnight. What we are learning though, also this
morning too, is an officer did sustain non life threatening injuries. Now,
all of this began just after nine o'clock last night.
(14:25):
That's when police say a witness called nine one one
about an armed robbery here at the Maverick gas station.
So when officers arrived, that witness told him there was
an armed suspect locked inside the gas station with two
employees as well. That's when shots were fired and officers
forced their way inside the store.
Speaker 22 (14:42):
They ultimately did confront the armed subject who was firing
at them. There was an exchange of gunfire. Ultimately the
suspect was down. The officers immediately began to render aid.
Speaker 15 (14:58):
That suspect was taken to hospital and later died. Two
store employees that were also shot and they have non
life threatening injuries right now, still unclear if those employees
were shot by officers or the suspect. Chief Police Ron
Thomas also says critical incident protocol is now underway as
part of the investigation. But this morning too, you can
(15:19):
see still very much an active scene here on this
Tuesday morning, having police presents still out here along with
prime seam tape. You have probably at least a dozen
or so cars that are still part of this investigation.
Of course, we are working to learn more information this
morning for you, and of course we'll keep you posted
right here on CBS News Colorado throughout the morning.
Speaker 9 (15:38):
We're printing live this morning.
Speaker 15 (15:40):
I'm actually for THEEO covering Colorado first.
Speaker 9 (15:42):
Yeah, really, thank you.
Speaker 3 (15:43):
I remember watching that one on Television's pretty interesting. You've
a number fifty eight eighty Mike. So why did we
never hear any from Oklahoma? Well, because it's Oklahoma, and
unlike Texas, where everybody's armed, everybody's armed in Oklahoma too.
The differences Oklahoma doesn't have a Harris County Texas Houston
or San Antonio Behart County. So you've got two counties
(16:08):
that provide US touch pay release shouts out of Texas.
Now so much Oklahoma. Let's see man armed with a rifle.
Speaker 20 (16:18):
Were following breaking news A man is dead after being
shot by a sheriff's deputy in rosemeadeh.
Speaker 26 (16:22):
Witnessed news reporter Madison Wild live at the scene with
new details from investigators Madison.
Speaker 9 (16:30):
John Rachel.
Speaker 21 (16:31):
We just got an update from officials learning about those
moments right before that deadly deputy involved shooting. We now
know that deputies first got a call around five pm.
Speaker 1 (16:40):
Here.
Speaker 21 (16:41):
They were called to Sullivan Street due to reports of
a man in mental distress. Once they got here, they
learned a man inside one of these homes was threatening
to harm himself, his family members, and deputies. That's when
the Sheriff's Department says they notified their mental evaluation team
and their crisis negotiators, who both responded and began trying
(17:02):
to speak with this man here on scene. Officials say
that's when negotiators learned he was armed and potentially dangerous.
Speaker 27 (17:10):
The negotiators learned the male was armed with what was
believed to be a high power rifle, after which that
warranted the call out of our Special Enforcement Bureau. Once
a special Enforcement Bureau got on scene, communications continued and
eventually the male exited the house with the high powered rifle,
(17:32):
which led to a deputy involve shooting. The mail was
struck by gunfire and pronounced dead at the scene.
Speaker 21 (17:42):
We did ask the detective we just spoke with if
that man fired a shot. He was unable to share
that information at this time. He did tell us the
man was in his forties and that there were two
other immediate family members home when this all unfolded. An
elderly adult and a child of them are unharmed, so.
Speaker 9 (18:02):
A tragic scene.
Speaker 21 (18:03):
This morning, homicide investigators and forensics are still on scene
working together evidence. We asked them how long this might
be an active scene. They said they expect to be
here for several more hours. We're live in Rosemeade, Madison Wylee,
ABC seven Eyewitness News.
Speaker 3 (18:19):
All right, now, let's see we don't have time to
start this one. All right, Taxpayer release shops will continue
after these messages.
Speaker 9 (18:49):
Well, thanks a lot, Michael and Dragon.
Speaker 2 (18:52):
Now, my husband has to spend all weekend perfecting his
Mister Rogers voice for your.
Speaker 9 (18:56):
Rules of Engagement. And he informed me he can't go
to the big Christmas craft fair with me. This is
all your fault.
Speaker 3 (19:05):
Oh I'm sure. I'm sure.
Speaker 9 (19:09):
We're just the last of a dozen excuses that were
rattling in.
Speaker 3 (19:12):
His and he thought, well, that's the best one to use,
right there, sweetheart. I'm so sorry I can't go to
the Christmas Craft Fair because those guys are such big
a holes and they've got to have this and I
can't do it.
Speaker 9 (19:25):
I love you to death, but guys need me.
Speaker 3 (19:28):
They do they really need me, so I'll have to
skip the Christmas craft fair. Well, we're sorry for you,
We understand your loss and how serious it is. But
sometimes a guy's just got to do what he's got
to do.
Speaker 9 (19:41):
But here's the thing.
Speaker 4 (19:42):
If if you are a wife that's anything like my wife,
and you happen to go alone without him, you're gonna
spend a lot more money.
Speaker 3 (19:52):
Yeah, look a look at the positives, so win win. Yeah. Yeah,
So just be quiet and be happy. Yes, you'ren tax
by relief shoffs. Well, because it's Friday, and that's what
we do in the last hour is showing Friday, we
do these.
Speaker 17 (20:08):
This is well County Sheriff Steve Reems, and I want
to encourage the people of Colorado to remember you still
have the right to defend yourself, no matter how much
of a mess this state has become. While the Democrats
and the legislature and the governor of the state have
created as many barriers as they can to make it
difficult for you to own and carry a gun for
your protection, you still have your Second Amendment rights. The
Democrat controlled legislature and Governor Polis also tell us that
(20:30):
crime isn't out of control. But we all know that's
not true in Weld County. I encourage every citizen to
have an investment in their own safety. You should own
a gun and know how to use it. If someone
wants to break into your home and threaten your family,
they should meet the serious end of a firearm. The
best way to end the spread of crime is to
ensure the criminal is no longer part of the equation.
As the Sheriff of Weald County, remember this. We love
(20:51):
our guns in Weld County and we don't like criminals.
Speaker 3 (20:54):
We don't like criminals. Back to the Heprs's ma'am brings
a knife to a gun fight with the popo for
learning more.
Speaker 5 (21:04):
About a deadly police shooting on the South Bay last night.
Speaker 28 (21:07):
Police say a man was shot and killed by Santa
Clair County Sheriff's deputies during a traffic stop in San Jose.
Speaker 16 (21:13):
Investigators say the sunspect was armed with a knife.
Speaker 25 (21:16):
ABC seven News reporter Zach Wentez is live outside the
Sheriff's office with the latest on the investigation.
Speaker 3 (21:21):
Zach, Yeah, the.
Speaker 26 (21:24):
Sheriff going to be giving an update later this afternoon
right here at headquarters. This shooting all happened on Fruitdale
Avenue here in San josean Neir Southwest Expressway and Lee Avenue,
and the events leading up to it. The Sheriff's Office
says happened just before seven point thirty last night. Deputies
stopped a vehicle near Fruitdale Abb in Lee Avenues, and
they said the driver then started acting erradically and refused
(21:45):
to comply with commands. The Sheriff's office said the man
then barricaded himself in the car, and said deputies and
members of the Sheriff's Psychiatric Emergency Response Team tried to
de escalate the situation for more than two hours. The
Sheriff's office said the man exited the car, armed to
the knife and charged toward deputies. One of them fired
their gun. One neighbor we spoke with said he saw
(22:05):
it all unfold.
Speaker 3 (22:07):
He wouldn't come out.
Speaker 29 (22:08):
Finally, the police after a few hours, they broke the
back windows. I thought they were going to use like
riot gas and maybe try to get them out of
the car. Next thing I know, they're yelling, he's got this,
he's got a weapon, and there was three shots fired
and they pulled him out of the car.
Speaker 3 (22:21):
How did you see pr.
Speaker 26 (22:24):
Batman was taken to the hospital and died. The Sheriff's
office said it did use several less lethal tools and
projectiles so that deputies didn't have to.
Speaker 3 (22:32):
Use deadly force.
Speaker 26 (22:33):
And this all happened within San Jose city limits. So
the San Jose Police Department is going to be the
agency leading the investigation. In the Santa Clair County DA's
Office will be conducting an independent review.
Speaker 3 (22:45):
What interests me about that is they you know, they
may make a comment about how we spent two hours
trying to de escalate it. We can know how it's
going to turn out. Either the guy's going to make
a stupid move and they're going to end up shooting him,
or he's finally going to give up. I guess the
third alternative is he could somehow manage to escape. But
(23:07):
we've never had that story. It's always they either give
up or they decide to pull something and wham bam,
they're gone. Let's see, we got a man who brings
Oh well, this this might turn out better because instead.
Speaker 8 (23:25):
Of a gun he brings You can see most of
the activity is focused in the crosswalk in the intersection
of twenty one hundred South and three hundred West. That's
between the Chevron and McDonald's. Here, it's where police and
witnesses tell us one man was shot by an officer
and started as a normal day in the office for
Jacob Miller.
Speaker 30 (23:44):
Yeah, there was just the pour of us here extending
just Jack cammeron the concrete.
Speaker 8 (23:48):
Out until about nine am.
Speaker 30 (23:51):
I know they mostly all can win pipe working right
over there at the corner, you know, blocking off the street.
So that's when it when he knows what something's going on.
In a couple more officers pulled in there and I
don't know there was total, about sixteen of them.
Speaker 8 (24:04):
Salt Lake City Police say they were called down to
the area for an urgent assault in progress. Police said
two officers arrived on scene and they encountered a man
armed with a rock.
Speaker 31 (24:13):
During the encounter, the subject mail through the rock at
our officers. At some point during that interaction, at least
one shot was fired by the officers, striking the mail individual,
who went down on scene. He was then transported to
an area hospital, where he died on his way or
when he arrived at the hospital.
Speaker 8 (24:33):
The scene stretched across twenty one hundred South. In this video,
you can see clothing spread out in the crosswalk after
the incident. Police say one of the officers involved was
being treated at a local hospital for non life threatening injuries.
Speaker 31 (24:46):
Our job is to secure the scene and let the
investigative team take charge of the scene.
Speaker 8 (24:51):
But for Miller and others in the surrounding businesses, they'll
continue their work from behind the yellow tape.
Speaker 30 (24:57):
So we and we're gonna pick up our rest of
our stuff here and head on over and get dumping
and then hopefully get this filled in today.
Speaker 8 (25:05):
So, as part of police shooting protocols, the West Ordan
Police Department will be handling the investigation as an independent
outside agency in Salt Lake City. Julia Sandor Fox thirteen
