Speaker 1 (00:00):
Caution you're about to experience. The taxpayer relief Shots segment
on the situation with Michael Brown. We did not necessarily
relish the death of the criminal, but we do celebrate
the god given and constitutional right to self defense and
saving the taxpayer the expense of three hots and a cot.
So what all you punks out there, If you're thinking
(00:21):
about breaking into someone's home, that person may have a
forty four magnum which is the most powerful hanging in
the world and will blow you clean back out the door.
Still thinking about breaking the law, then you have to
ask yourself this question. Do I feel lucky?
Speaker 2 (00:38):
Do you?
Speaker 3 (00:40):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (00:40):
We do.
Speaker 3 (00:40):
Yet on Friday at nine o'clock we do the taxpayer
relief shots. We call them taxpayer relief shots because well,
we believe in the right of self defense, the god
given natural right of self defense. Now, often these taxpayer
relief shots are delivered by firearms, but doesn't have to be.
This is a segment where we celebrate people who have
decided that they are going to defend themselves, whether they're
(01:03):
private citizens or their cops, and we call them taxpayer
relief shots primarily because somebody's breaking in your house. Here
more than welcome to shoot them.
Speaker 4 (01:13):
In Santa cise A Counting, we prefer that you do actually,
hopefully you'll save the taxpayers money.
Speaker 5 (01:18):
Or I would tell them, if you value your life,
you probably shouldn't do that. In Polk County because the
people of Polk County like guns.
Speaker 3 (01:26):
They have guns.
Speaker 5 (01:27):
I encourage them to own guns, and they're going to
be in their homes tonight with their guns loaded.
Speaker 3 (01:32):
And if you try to break into their homes to.
Speaker 5 (01:33):
Steal to set fires, I'm highly recommending they blow you
back out of the house with their guns. So leave
the community alone.
Speaker 3 (01:41):
Leave them alone, or don't attack my deputies.
Speaker 6 (01:49):
Don't try to stab or shoot my deputies because if
you do, we're going.
Speaker 3 (01:56):
To shoot you a lot. We're going to shoot you.
Don't shoot my deputies. Stop it, dumbass thuds. Stop them.
Speaker 6 (02:05):
Don't attack my deputies. Don't try to stab or shoot
my deputies because if you do, we're gonna shoot you
a lot.
Speaker 3 (02:16):
We're gonna shoot you a lot. And of course this one,
he asked to be shot. He demanded to be shot,
and then he.
Speaker 6 (02:25):
Forced us to shoot him, so we obliged him.
Speaker 3 (02:31):
So we obliged him. He asked to be shot. He
wanted to be shot, so we shot him. Okay, this
gets started. As you know, I don't listen to these
until we till we played them, so I hear them,
you know, with virgineers, just like you do. Uh, here
we go, let's just start. We'll just work our way
through them. A driver shoots the cops, and I can't
imagine what happens after that.
Speaker 7 (02:52):
It started with a trooper struggling with a suspect during
a traffic stop. The trooper called for backup, saying he
was shot. When other officers got there, he was rushed
to Sinai Grace Hospital. We also have Jacqueline Francis live
for us outside Sinai Grace where that injured trooper was taken.
Speaker 2 (03:06):
Jacqueline, just minutes.
Speaker 7 (03:07):
Ago, where an MSP officer held a press conference. What
can you tell us about what you heard at that
press conference?
Speaker 8 (03:14):
Ty, we're right outside the emergency entrance here, as you said,
at Sinai Grace Hospital. We're inside. The trooper just reunited
with his family and as we understand, he may still
have a bullet in his shoulder. Here's a look at
the scene. This was the aftermath from earlier this evening,
the trooper made a traffic stop on the Lodge near Wyoming,
(03:34):
pulling over a forty one year old man from Highland Park.
Police tell us during that stop, the trooper and driver
got in a physical altercation. The suspect got out and
got a gun and fired at the trooper, hitting him
three times, twice in his protective vest and once in
the shoulder.
Speaker 2 (03:51):
Police said.
Speaker 8 (03:51):
The trooper fired back, hitting and killing the suspect. We
were just brafed by police outside the hospital about how
the trooper is doing.
Speaker 9 (04:00):
Take a listen.
Speaker 10 (04:02):
Just had an opportunity to speak with the trooper inside
of the hospital. He is stable. His family just arrived
here at the hospital. They are in there with him.
He is doing well considering the circumstances.
Speaker 11 (04:15):
Bortain, are those mess very important?
Speaker 10 (04:17):
Very important. This is the second time here in the
last couple of weeks here that we've had a trooper
that has been injured or been shot at, and with
those vest on, you know, we may not be a
whole totally different conversation. And this is again another reminder
of how the men and women, whether it's the MSP,
other police officers across this state and this nation, how
(04:41):
We are putting our lives on the line every day
to keep everybody safe.
Speaker 8 (04:47):
There were a lot of questions during that briefing that
police were not able to answer, including what prompted the
traffic stop in the first place. They say all that
information will come out in the investigation.
Speaker 7 (04:58):
Tie such a sober reminder of the risk they take
every day on that job.
Speaker 2 (05:03):
Jacqueline. What else do we know about the trooper?
Speaker 11 (05:07):
Not much.
Speaker 8 (05:08):
We are told that he's fairly new to the job.
He's only been with Michigan State Police for about one year.
We are also told he was driving solo, just him
in the cruiser when he made that traffic stop. And
as far as we know, he's still getting medical intention
inside the hospital right now. He wasn't cleared or anything
when we heard from police.
Speaker 7 (05:26):
They were still.
Speaker 8 (05:27):
Giving him the medical attention he needs after being.
Speaker 12 (05:30):
Hit in the shoulder.
Speaker 7 (05:32):
We've all got him in our thoughts tonight as he
recovers at Sinai Grace Hospital in Detroit. Jacqueline, thank you.
Speaker 3 (05:43):
Oblige you what? Oh, I'm sorry, Let's see a man
fighting with the popo.
Speaker 13 (05:52):
The officers were wearing their body cameras, so that that
footage will be reviewed.
Speaker 9 (05:58):
Now at ten, one man has died after an officer
involved shooting. Two Philadelphia police officers have been placed on
administrative duty pending the outcome of an investigation. Wednesday night,
I'm sorry, WILLIAMS. Gray has the night off the victory
on Action News. Tonight is breaking news at this hour.
In the city's Fair Hill neighborhood, a man was shot
and killed by officers after a scuffle, according to police.
(06:21):
Authorities say two officers tried to stop a pedestrian along
Mutter and Somerset Streets around six point thirty this evening,
when then a tussle began. Authorities say that's when the
mail suspect reached for a gun in his bag, which
did discharge. That's when both officers fired their weapons, striking
(06:42):
this person in the stomach. Action News reporter Brianna Gallagher
just received an update from investigators. She joins US now
live at police headquarters with the latest.
Speaker 14 (06:50):
Brianna, Yeah, sorry, we just went with police not too
long ago. They say a scuffle began, the mail's weapon
discharged an office, they took out their weapons, shell casings,
and a large police presidence on scene in the Fair
Hill neighborhood after a deadly police involved shooting accory to
(07:11):
Philadelphia Police. Just after six thirty, twenty fifth District officers
attempted to conduct a pedestrian investigation.
Speaker 12 (07:17):
At Mutter and Somerset.
Speaker 14 (07:19):
After they approached him, police say a scuffle broke out
between the officers and the mail on the street.
Speaker 13 (07:24):
The mail produced a handgun from a bag that he
was carrying on his person at some point during that struggle.
When that Mail produces that handgun, the weapon discharges, at
which point our officers discharge their weapons, striking the Mail
and the torso area.
Speaker 14 (07:41):
The Mail was rush to Temple Hospital, where he was
pronounced just before seven o'clock tonight. Why the officers conducted
a pedestrian stop is still under investigation.
Speaker 13 (07:49):
The investigation is still very early in the stage. Is
we have a lot to go through. The officers were
wearing their body cameras so that that footage will be reviewed,
you know, as a part of the.
Speaker 14 (08:01):
Investigation as officials canvas the area for evidence. It's also
unclear exactly how many shots were.
Speaker 2 (08:06):
Fired just twenty five district officers.
Speaker 13 (08:08):
I mean, we always use the terminology routine, but no
day in policing. His routine of these officers, you know,
their charge were coming out here and then again keeping
the city safe, and a part of that takes them
into situations unfortunately like this that occurred, but you know
that's what they're out here to do each and every day.
Speaker 14 (08:26):
Now we're being told that those officers still need to
be questioned. Police said that they're still looking for witnesses
in the area and any other cameras that may have
captured the incident unfold.
Speaker 11 (08:35):
Officers did recover.
Speaker 14 (08:37):
A weapon at the scene, and the bag of the
van had that gun, and those two officers are placed
on administrative leave. We live at tid to Philadelphia Police Headquarters.
Brianna Gallagher Frakshu's at ten on PHL seventeen.
Speaker 9 (08:48):
Shari, all right, A lot for them to sort through
on this one, okay.
Speaker 15 (08:51):
Brianna, Thanks?
Speaker 3 (08:52):
Yeah, thanks, bro. Don't fight with the cops.
Speaker 16 (08:55):
A man in a wheelchair, uh oh, folded this afternoon
in sun Valley, NBC fours Darsa.
Speaker 17 (09:03):
Phillips has been there all day, she joins us now
live on what Darsa is still a very active scene.
Speaker 2 (09:09):
Yeah, Kathy.
Speaker 16 (09:10):
Police have been here for about ten hours. Investigating this
stabbing and police shooting that left two people dead and
sent a nearby school into lockdown. Police swarmed this neighborhood
Friday afternoon around one o'clock, responding to a call about
a domestic dispute. When they arrived, officers found a man
(09:30):
stabbing a woman with a sharp object. When he didn't
follow orders to drop the weapon. At least one officer
opened fire, hitting the man holding the sharp object.
Speaker 3 (09:40):
She heard the gunshot since she ran out, and she panicked.
Speaker 16 (09:44):
People who live nearby immediately thought of Armanita Elementary School.
The kids were on the playground when those shots rang out.
Speaker 2 (09:51):
The kids were right here.
Speaker 13 (09:52):
They were I think it was lunchyle And she panicked,
and she looked down and the cops were over here
in helicopters, and she that's scared because my granddaughter goes here.
Speaker 16 (10:01):
The principal, who was also on the playground immediately initiated
lockdown procedures.
Speaker 11 (10:07):
Who was kind of worried because one of my granddaughter
chief very But she wasn't the one who was here
in the corners that she saw everything.
Speaker 16 (10:14):
The school was locked down for about thirty minutes, and
police shut down several streets around the home on Beck
Avenue near Armanita Street. The man police shot and the
woman who was stabbing were transported to the hospital. They
both did not survive their injuries. Their identities have not
yet been released. It's not clear if there was anyone
else in the house, and it's also not clear what
(10:36):
led up.
Speaker 2 (10:36):
To the stabbing.
Speaker 16 (10:37):
Detectives say they're looking at officer body worn camera footage
and speaking to nearby witnesses as part of the investigation. Now,
the streets around Beck Avenue and Armanita Street will be
shut down, likely for the next several hours, as police
continue their investigation here at the scene. That's the latest
from Sun Valley tonight. I'm Darsha Phillips NBC for News.
Speaker 3 (11:00):
Because you're in a wheelchair, it doesn't mean you can't
be dangerous. Let's see the Popo shooting kill a man
who well once again.
Speaker 14 (11:07):
So this happened on Hampton Woods Court and Brent Mills
is joining us now with the latest information.
Speaker 18 (11:13):
Brent, Yeah, that's right, Monica and mad officers are still
here working the scene. We've seen Columbus police cars go
in and out of the area. I'm going to step
aside just so you can see what I'm seeing. We
have one cruiser that's sitting behind me, and just in
front of it you see the mobile substations that police
(11:34):
officers can work out of. And then we have some
caution tape here all along going up this road. And
then at the very end you can see another police
cruiser blocking off that side of the road.
Speaker 2 (11:45):
So still very active scene here.
Speaker 18 (11:47):
But according to Columbus Police, the original call came in
at around nine forty pm last night about a possible
domestic violent situation. When officers arrived, they say a man
was shooting at them from inside the apartment and a
one was being held hostage.
Speaker 2 (12:02):
That's when SWAT officers were called.
Speaker 18 (12:04):
And they say eventually they were able to make contact
with that man over the phone and they spoke with
him for more than an hour trying to end the
situation peacefully.
Speaker 2 (12:13):
But roughly two.
Speaker 18 (12:14):
Hours after that first call to nine one one, Columbus
Police Sergeant Joe Albert says the situation then escalated. Just
after eleven forty five, the man opened the door to
the apartment with the woman and a gun in his hand.
Police said that the mail then raised the gun, at
which point multiple SWAT personnel discharged their firearms and shot him.
Speaker 2 (12:33):
The woman then ran to the officers.
Speaker 18 (12:35):
She was later taken to a hospital and the man
was pronounced dead at the scene.
Speaker 11 (12:40):
The smell was very violent, had no regard for the
police that scene here, was obviously attempting to harm multiple
police officers here at scene.
Speaker 19 (12:50):
At some point that that individual fired out the SWAT
officers again and at least one sw SWAT officer had
no choice but to return fire. Members are going home tonight,
and that is the most important thing.
Speaker 20 (13:07):
Now.
Speaker 18 (13:08):
The Ohio Bureau of Priminal Investigation is investigating this shooting,
as they do all police involved shooting. Bring you more
updates and information once it's made available to us, both
on air and online at NBC Fouri dot com.
Speaker 2 (13:22):
Look for you. I'm Brett Mills, NBC four Frett.
Speaker 21 (13:25):
Thank you, and if you or someone you love is
dealing with domestic violence, help is available. Numbers for the
National Domestic Violence Hotline and LSS choices here in Franklin
County are on your screen right now.
Speaker 2 (13:36):
We also have those resources on.
Speaker 3 (13:37):
Our website and an athletic a rifle and an athletic.
Speaker 22 (13:49):
Club urge continues on a deadly match shooting at the
Las Vegas Athletic Club on North Rainbow for people shop
by the gunman, one of them killed, three others being
treated at UBC.
Speaker 12 (14:03):
The gunman is dead now, our Dana Wagner is still
at the same forest. Dana, what's the lightest.
Speaker 11 (14:10):
Well, We're going to bring in a dramatic interview live
on TV. This is Hobby or Sanchez. He was inside
the Las Vegas Athletic Club and he just walked out
moments ago. And I know it's still very raw. I
know it's still very emotional for you. So I just
wanted to say thank you for giving us some time.
But you saw the gunman come in with some sort
(14:32):
of a rifle and just started opening fire.
Speaker 23 (14:35):
Yes, I heard the first shot and after that was
like a shots the fire.
Speaker 11 (14:42):
Wait, you've heard twenty to thirty shots from this gunman?
Speaker 23 (14:45):
Correct, Yes, that was the lot. All the shots been fired.
Speaker 11 (14:50):
And you said you were what ten fifteen feet away
from him?
Speaker 23 (14:53):
Yes, I was about ten fifteen feet away, and I
decided to hide myself in a column. And one of
the guys that he shot, which since it was one
of the managers, he was keep shotting at him, and
when I went down on the column, he was shot
at us six seven times.
Speaker 11 (15:10):
So we understand that three other people were also hit.
I know you were hiding at the time, but did
you see other people get hit by gunfire as well?
Speaker 23 (15:18):
Correct? I saw nother guy that was hit on the back,
on the leg. I saw him on the floor because
actually I tried to help him out to get up
and run out of the building.
Speaker 11 (15:28):
Okay, so you're hearing an indiscriminated gun fire. Then eventually,
and I know this is hard for you, so thank you.
And then eventually the gunman runs outside. Did you see
him run outside of the building?
Speaker 23 (15:41):
He ran outside after a couple of minutes. It took
a few minutes in the inside. So when I ran outside,
you know, obviously I don't know what happened after that
in the inside. But after a few minutes, I seen,
you know, police come in. Then the guy runs outside
and he was being taken down by the police officer
on the parking lot.
Speaker 11 (16:00):
Had you ever seen this gunman before?
Speaker 23 (16:03):
No, sir, never seeing it.
Speaker 11 (16:04):
Okay, and we're any words spoken before he started opening fire.
Did you hear any argument?
Speaker 23 (16:10):
No, no arguments that oh it's just came and it
starts shooting him like no no reason. At least I
didn't hurt any anything, any confrontations.
Speaker 11 (16:18):
Listen, thank you. I appreciate you giving us your time.
I know it's a brutal day for you, and you're
brave to be able to tell your story to us,
and I thank you for that.
Speaker 3 (16:31):
You're welcome.
Speaker 11 (16:31):
Pavier sant Chaz, thank you.
Speaker 19 (16:33):
Okay.
Speaker 3 (16:37):
Lit suspect who tries to dummies.
Speaker 17 (16:42):
A suspect led police on a chase to the ham
of the Place Mall area earlier tonight. Please were patrolling
the area and notice the suspect acting suspicially suspiciously.
Speaker 2 (16:51):
And attempted a traffic stop.
Speaker 17 (16:53):
That's when police say a chase started. The person reached
speeds of more than one hundred miles per hour as
she led police around the mall's parking lot. The show
lines Raycreato was that the scene at the crash and
joined does not explain exactly what happened.
Speaker 2 (17:07):
Ray Kim.
Speaker 24 (17:09):
Policely, a suspect who led them on a chase was
shot and killed by an officer near Hamilton Place Mall. Now,
this came after the suspect attempted to run over police
officers with a car. Now in this video you could
see the end result of that police chase. Police say
the suspect started ramming vehicles to get past them, only
to get caught on that curve. When officers approached. Police
(17:30):
say that's when he attempts to run them over, causing
at least one officer to draw their weapon and fired
the suspect and kill him.
Speaker 4 (17:37):
When they attempted to stop this individual, he quickly got
inside a vehicle and fled, driving over one hundred miles
an hour in Hamilton Place parking lot as well as
the perimeter. I'm very thankful that none of our officers
were injured. It it's tragic that a member of our
community had to pass. But this top of behavior is
not going to be acceptable in the city of Chattanaga.
Speaker 2 (17:58):
Over in Hamilton County.
Speaker 24 (18:00):
Now police tell us there were two other people in
the car. Both of them suffered very minor injuries.
Speaker 2 (18:05):
Okay, right, thank you.
Speaker 17 (18:07):
This incident is now being investigated by the TBI. Of course,
this is a developing story. Depend on us to keep
you updated as we learn more.
Speaker 3 (18:16):
That leads to somebody going you can use a tasy,
you can use your other handgun.
Speaker 6 (18:21):
If a guy is still coming at you to get
your weapon, that is uh, you know, understandable.
Speaker 2 (18:29):
Ah, Like damn, they just shot this dude.
Speaker 3 (18:34):
Taxpayer relief shots continue after this, and we do taxpayer
relief shots because we'd like to celebrate our god given
right of self defense. So let's keep going because we
got a whole bunch of them. Let's keep going through them.
(18:54):
An armed citizen, Oh, how dare you to?
Speaker 7 (19:00):
Getting a shooting in downtown Seattle, just outside the Four
Seasons Hotel, police say a private citizen stepped in and
shot the suspect.
Speaker 25 (19:07):
King Frive's Andre is there live this morning where police
are still on scene?
Speaker 26 (19:11):
Drew, what can you tell us about this?
Speaker 2 (19:14):
All right?
Speaker 27 (19:15):
Well, it happened at ten o'clock last night, Chantey, and
the way police described it was there was some.
Speaker 3 (19:20):
Sort of altercation.
Speaker 27 (19:21):
We still don't know exactly what that altercation was, and
it led to a shooting. They involved three people. They
say one one man shot two others and then started
to flee the scene. And when they did that, they say,
another person stepped in and shot and killed the shooter,
This suspect in this case that they're considering. They say
(19:42):
that that person who shot the suspect is cooperating with police.
Let's show you some video from on scene. Things have
wrapped up on scene as hard as the investigation goes,
But earlier we could see crime scene investigators. There were
a number of evidence markers that had been placed around
all of This is just outside the Seasons Hotel, so at.
Speaker 2 (20:01):
The corner of First and Union.
Speaker 27 (20:03):
We even saw a shoe that was there along with
a number of shell casings.
Speaker 2 (20:07):
Please say they still know what led up.
Speaker 27 (20:08):
To that altercation that led to the shooting, but once
that suspect fled, they described it as a private citizen
that shot this suspect. Please say they've interviewed that private citizen.
They are licensed to carry a gun and have again
cooperated with police. We do know that young people were
involved in this initial shooting, including an eighteen year old
(20:29):
and a seventeen.
Speaker 2 (20:30):
Year old too.
Speaker 27 (20:31):
Right now, two victims are still in the hospital at
Harbor View with some serious injuries. Recording live in Seattle,
Drew Andre King, five minutes.
Speaker 3 (20:39):
I just find it interesting that it's in Seattle, of
all places. All right, let's see Jeffersontown, Kentucky. An off
duty club.
Speaker 28 (20:48):
So the shocking violence that happened in Jaytown today and
off duty Jeffersontown police officer shooting and killing a man
in Jeffersontown, killing him just before eleven thirty am. Neighbors
on Robinson Road, north of Carriller's Middle School calling nine
to one one over and over according to the chief,
about a man breaking windows and homes and cars.
Speaker 3 (21:07):
WHS.
Speaker 28 (21:08):
Levenz and hard registerjoining us now live from the C
and end. Which windows are we talking about here?
Speaker 29 (21:16):
Windows that we've seen cracked over here are actually on vehicles.
I want to show you one right next to us.
This is five houses down from where the shooting happened.
Speaker 2 (21:25):
We don't want to bring in.
Speaker 29 (21:26):
Two close because there is a little bit of blood
on that window. And if we look over to the
right and further up the road, right next to where
the shooting happened, it's a similar situation with this blue car,
a cracked window with a little bit of blood on it.
We caught up with a man who saw the immediate
aftermath of the shooting from his front porch.
Speaker 3 (21:47):
Come outside to see what's going on. I heard rapid fire.
Section one was on the load of the clip.
Speaker 29 (21:51):
It left one man dead here on Ropesian Road. A
Jeffersontown police officer pulled the trigger. He called for backup
while following the man down the but the officer shot
him before back up arrived. That all happened just before
eleven thirty in the morning.
Speaker 30 (22:07):
Over about sixty seventy cops was here from that end
all the way down here.
Speaker 3 (22:12):
To all up to there. It looked like the old
Christmas Tree.
Speaker 29 (22:17):
Neighbors called nine one one over cracked windows. We saw
at least one five houses down from the shooting covered
in blood. Since the officer was off duty, he didn't
have his body camera, says Jeffersontown Police Chief Rick Sanders.
Speaker 31 (22:31):
It's a challenge, but I think we have videos from
the surrounding area that will help put this puzzle together.
Speaker 29 (22:38):
A woman told us that the man who police shot
was unarmed. Chief Sanders said he was acting strange.
Speaker 31 (22:45):
I think that there was a family member trying to
calm him down, but I can't say with certainty.
Speaker 2 (22:51):
The officer was not injured.
Speaker 3 (22:53):
You are really never off duty, you know.
Speaker 31 (22:56):
He responded appropriately off duty to something that was being
reported to him.
Speaker 29 (23:02):
Kentucky State Police are investigating at the chiefs request. Now,
Chief Sanders says he's not releasing the officer's name or
the name of the man who died. Any further information
that comes out of this. He's leaving that up to
Kentucky State Police. I'm live in Jeffersontown, Ian Hardwi whas
(23:23):
eleven on your.
Speaker 3 (23:24):
Side National comes to us from these but I haven't
heard this. What yeah, I know this is for you. Hey,
rod Uh. I'm not going to tell you what the
title is, but assuming that the story is accurate according
(23:46):
to the title, I happen to agree.
Speaker 32 (23:50):
Developing todaight, Metro police arrested a mandate say shot and
killed someone with a victim's gun. That happened to inside
an AutoZone on Charleston Boulevard and Maryland Parkway. Police say
man walked into the store, acting erradically and approached a
man who had an open carry gun. They say the
two started fighting, but the suspect was able to steal
the gun and then shot and killed the gun owner.
(24:11):
Metra officers found the suspect about a block away, and
they took him into custody.
Speaker 3 (24:16):
I have no facts on which to base this, except
that you want to bet he was open caring because well,
because I can, because it makes me look cool and
tough and dead. Monroe County, Alabama.
Speaker 15 (24:32):
In Monroe County, Alabama, the Sheriff's office as a homeowner
acted in self defense after someone broke into their home
with an axe or told. The homeowner shot the suspect,
who was later found behind the home. Now, it happened
early this morning in the Eureka Landing community. The suspect
was taking the hospital. Their condition is unclear. The sheriff
says a homeowner not expected to face any charges.
Speaker 3 (24:54):
With the acts I swear. Okay, let's get down here.
We've got uh Pennsylvania three teenage shoplifters.
Speaker 12 (25:05):
This stretch of West Ridgepike where I'm standing is the
end of a long curve. You can see the marks
here on the ground where that car left the road,
and you can see as folks are trying to clean
up the debris left from when that car hit that wall.
The seconds before the crash, you see a dark car
(25:27):
heading west on Ridgepike, followed by police. What you don't
see how this chase ended from skyforth ten. The car
is barely recognizable on the ground today. Personal items from
those who were in the car, along with a pile
of rubble.
Speaker 33 (25:42):
Sad, devastated, you know, sad for the families that lost
loved ones.
Speaker 12 (25:50):
Those families mourning.
Speaker 2 (25:51):
A group of teenagers.
Speaker 12 (25:53):
The district attorney identifying those killed all seventeen year olds
Gabriel Cooper Messier, York and New Swan classmates have been
visiting the scene since this morning, after the superintendent of
Owen J. Roberts School District alerted the school community of
the involvement of students in the crash. Police say it
was nine oh six last night when a call came
(26:13):
from this target, alerting police to affect and progress.
Speaker 2 (26:17):
Police arrived minutes later.
Speaker 12 (26:18):
The DA's office says officers saw a group leaving the
store and followed at nine point fifteen that crash happened here.
Speaker 20 (26:27):
I saw a rumpled mass of metal laying in the
road and about eight police cars in back of them
and just chaos.
Speaker 12 (26:40):
Three of the victims died here. Another victim of fifteen
year old was flown to Temple University Hospital. The DA,
not releasing that child's name, starts to say the pursuit
was about two miles long and officers were in contact
with a supervisor, but now it's up to the Montgomery
County Detective Division to investigate what happened.
Speaker 20 (26:57):
We had one other accident where a channel and hit
that telephone pole and his car burst into flames. He
died at that scene. There was another time a gentleman
hit this telephone pole and he had like a transam
three days old and he wrapped it around that telephone pole.
Speaker 12 (27:22):
Liz says it's not uncommon for crashes to happen here.
She said these signs alerting to the sharp curve had
been knocked down weeks ago by another car. The owner
of this building says this will be the second time
she's had to rebuild this wall.
Speaker 33 (27:36):
We definitely made sure when it was rebuilt that it
was really starting, so I think that's really what helped
us with not getting any further damage to the destructural
part of our building or anything like that.
Speaker 12 (27:51):
Now there was damage inside the building. We're a little
bit of a distance away, but that window that we're
facing a headlight. We're told when flying through that business
that is a hair salon.
Speaker 33 (28:02):
Pam, who we spoke.
Speaker 12 (28:03):
To, says it's going to be some time before she's.
Speaker 14 (28:05):
Able to reopen the building again.
Speaker 12 (28:07):
We can tell you that classmates have been coming by
here talking about their friends, even picking up belongings, hoping
to be able to return what was left here to
their parents. Reporting live in Lumberck Township. Dana Durante, NBC
ten News.
Speaker 3 (28:21):
I mean, I'm sorry the teenagers did. Don't get me wrong,
but stupid teenagers. Stupid, stupid, stupid.
Speaker 30 (28:27):
Let's go to Philadelphia now the details. Police were called
to a dunk in on East Roosevelt Boulevard just after
five They m today for a report. Are the man
shot and killed in that area?
Speaker 15 (28:37):
Now?
Speaker 30 (28:37):
The manager of the store says this all started as
a robbery. Action News reporter Maggie Kenny's Life for us
at the Saints of Maggie, you learned some new information.
Speaker 3 (28:45):
On this.
Speaker 7 (28:46):
John.
Speaker 25 (28:47):
It's a sprawling scene. It started to hear inside this
Duncan Donuts this morning with the robbery inside of the
cash register, but also of those who were sitting inside
enjoying their morning coffee. It's filled out out here and
that's where you can see these evidence markers still on
the ground actually pouring out into this alleyway.
Speaker 9 (29:05):
There's more along this area.
Speaker 25 (29:07):
This is where we're told that one of the robbery
suspects was shot by someone he was trying to.
Speaker 7 (29:13):
Rob the.
Speaker 14 (29:17):
Ludamila.
Speaker 25 (29:17):
Paula woke up to police officers at her front door
and homicide detectives out back.
Speaker 26 (29:22):
The cops hanging my door and they told not to
open the back door because there was a crime scene.
Speaker 2 (29:28):
Behind her hull.
Speaker 25 (29:29):
Along the alleyway in the twenty six hundred block of
Eldridge Street in Mayfair, police were called out to reports
of a robbery at around five point thirty this morning,
right around the corner. The manager at this duncan tells
us two armed men came in to rob the store
and the customers inside. He says, when they ran out,
an armed customer followed behind and fired shots, killing one
(29:51):
of the alleged robbers.
Speaker 2 (29:53):
At the scene.
Speaker 25 (29:54):
Along with bullet casings, money was scattered and collected into evidence.
Speaker 26 (29:59):
I couldn't that happened in my house, no idea. I
lived here for so long, never happened things like that
before here, and then the guy just.
Speaker 2 (30:09):
That in my dwarf.
Speaker 25 (30:11):
Police have not released information of who the victim is,
but for Paula, she's grateful she didn't enter into the
crosshairs right in her own driveway.
Speaker 26 (30:20):
I was supposed to live into work in the same
time the guy was here, So I don't know if
God's planned that, but I just changed my mind, yessay
to Farck in the front, So I'm glad I did.
Speaker 25 (30:34):
We're still waiting to learn more details about who that
gunshot victim is and if there was another assailant with
him at the time during this robbery. We haven't heard
of any charges filed by Philadelphia police. Well, id in't afair,
Maggie can't Channel six Action new Sarah John all Right, Maggie, thanks.
Speaker 3 (30:51):
For the updated. Yeah, thanks for the update. That's two
in Philadelphia today and I think today is National Donut Day. Hey, Rod,
you didn't bring me up. Donut taxpayer release shots continue
after this. Next door on KOA was Gene Turner, who
is the Comms and PR manager for the Salvation Army,
and she stepped in and handed me a Lamar's Maple donut,
(31:13):
which is my favorite and so I'm going to be
on a sugar eye for a moment. But she told
me a story about National Donut Day that I did
not realize this was the origin and considering that it's
also not totally related, but that today is the anniversary
of D Day, Gene, why don't you tell the audience
about how we got National Donut Day? And it's actually
(31:36):
a serious, a serious day, it actually is.
Speaker 34 (31:39):
It's actually a real holiday, and it commemorates the donut lassies,
they called them, and those were the ladies from the
Salvation Army that went to the front lines of World
War One and actually served donuts and provided supplies and
cigarettes and coffee to the guys, the troops on the
front line. And so in nineteen thirty eight, they wanted
to commemorate those brave women who served in World War
(32:01):
One and World War Two, and so they created National
Donut Day. And they're called lassies, donut lassies, that's right.
Speaker 3 (32:09):
Can we say that today or is that considered to
be too sexist?
Speaker 34 (32:14):
It might be, but you know, they and they'll probably
rewrite history eventually someday and just call them donut providers,
but for now, their donut lassies, and they.
Speaker 3 (32:23):
Were they would fry up the donuts and the helmets.
Speaker 34 (32:26):
Yes, they actually had to improvise because they didn't have
cooking supplies and stuff, and they there's books out there
about this and the and the braver of these women
that went to the front lines. And yeah, they fried
them right out of the helmets of soldiers. And you know,
another interesting fact, the origin of dough boys is a
little bit you know, people don't really know, but a
lot of people think it's because of all these donuts
that were served when they came back to the United States.
(32:48):
It began popularizing the donut because they were a French
treat and a lot of them ate them, you know,
during the war, and so that's one of the origins
that people think dough boys came from.
Speaker 27 (32:59):
Too.
Speaker 3 (32:59):
Oh well, see I've learned something today and you've run
my fast and I've had on an empty stomach of
Lamar's maple donut. But thanks for doing this for so
you take them around all where are you taking them today?
Speaker 34 (33:13):
So today we're taking them to the VA hospitals, We're
taking them to some of our first responders, to all
of our facilities. So right here in the metro area
of Denver, we serve about eighteen homeless people every night.
You shelter and serve families, and so just a great opportunity.
Speaker 3 (33:29):
How many dozen donuts did Lamar's donate four hundred.
Speaker 34 (33:32):
And sixty eight dozen donuts, so we're taking out a.
Speaker 3 (33:35):
Rug can eat all those on his own. Everybody, have
a great weekend. I'll talk to you tomorrow, right, okay,
thanks pretty much, Rolling up babies, gentlemen, Alva, I've loved.
Speaker 2 (33:48):
The belver our.
Speaker 33 (33:49):
Good weekend,
