(00:05):
See. I knew you would bethe one to talk to about that because
I figured you might have a littlebit of experience with that kind of thing.
Ye, Mike had a potentially awkwardinteraction. It is petty theft show.
Hmmm, you're discussing in the breakthe side. I never know what
to do with people who may ormay not recognize me. I had one.

(00:27):
I had an uber pickup. Sobefore I had the Uber pickup,
I picked up some Domino's pizza becauseI do enjoy pizza of all kinds.
You had pizza in the car whileyou made a pickup of a human.
No, no, no, thiswas separate. As I was getting food
from my family and I walked inand they usually says TCF on the board,

(00:47):
Yeah, and he goes t C. Fleming and is that you saying
that you know me from radio?Or yeah, yeah, that's what I'm
wondering. Or did you just knowmy full name from the receipt? And
then he says, isn't that someonefamous? And I said, uh,
I don't know about famous man,but yeah, and then he gives me

(01:10):
a reaction that makes it plainly obvioushe doesn't know who I am. This
is all just embarrassing egg on myface. So after that happens, someone
gets in the uber. You know, a couple days later, I'm doing
Uber rides and a guy gets in. He goes, oh TC. He
didn't even say He said something likehey man, I'm a fan of your

(01:33):
work and something like that, butlike he seemed kind of tipsy. It
was a Friday night, and sonow you're like, I should just yeah,
yeah, like uber drivers in general, right, you've been hurt recently,
so you can't assume that he knowsyou're broadcast. Yeah. I'm like,
I walked into this terribly one othertime. I'm not gonna do it

(01:53):
again. So I just proceed theride in total silence with this guy,
and then whatever I get where I'mgoing, he's like, yeah, TC,
I love you and Jake have anice night. Ah all right.
Just like I felt like a giantjerk to that guy. I would have
been happy to answer whatever questions hehad, you know, like give him

(02:14):
a good, proper TC experience hecould tell all of his friends about for
years, And instead I gave himthe full silent treatment TC for the entire
ride. Come on, man, maybe he's listening, right, now,
I hope. So maybe he'll callyou again for another uber ride. I'm
sorry to him. If he is. Don't let the hiccups, you know,

(02:36):
stop you from embracing your fame.Just roll with it every time,
no matter how many disappointments there are, just to assume that people recognize you
if there's any hint. I understandthe pain of not being sure what the
right play is. Well saying, you know, the thing that makes this
unusual for me or that kind ofput me in a tough spot is that

(03:00):
I see that this guy you knowevery week up here a couple of couple
three times. Well, maybe youdo, because you're not sure that was
the hold up? Right? Yeah, I think I do. And we've
just never had any I don't thinkI bad vibe the guy or anything like
that, and he doesn't bad vibeme. In fact, there's just no

(03:22):
real connection whatsoever. We just it'snot that we don't like each other.
There's just no cause for us tointeract, so we don't. And if
that was him the other nine,Number one, I hope he liked the
show. And number two, Iwould like to thank him for coming out.
Try to thank him. If somewhere, look around. Should we go

(03:46):
look around and send an intern togo grab him? All? Right?
Him? Yeah, we're crawling withinterns. So am I the a hole
here? I think? So?Yeah? I mean it's regrettable. It's
easy, you know, it's easyto see how it's a tough situation to
handle. But if you did handleit by not saying anything at all to

(04:08):
a guy who seemed like he wastrying to get you to say what's up?
Then hard hard to find that anotherway to describe that other than ale,
Yeah, you don't know that guyanything, Mike. If somebody wants
to interact, they can come up, They can approach you. You can't.
Your eyeballs can't make me seek youout. If you would like an
interaction, come on up, Becauseyou know what, we're all human and

(04:31):
we all feared the TC moment ofoh is that eyeball telling me you like
me and you're a fan, andI'm gonna come over there, And then
you do and they're like who thehell are you? And you're like,
oh, yeah, no, comesee me. And I want everybody like
Tomorrow and Lost Cleaness at the ALBUMOdraft House and we're going to do our
show. I want you to comeup mcause I probably won't chase you down
because I'll assume, oh no,they're just here for some popcorn. They

(04:53):
don't give a crap or annoying themunless you let me know. And I
want you to let me know becausethen we can hug. Yes, yeah,
I want you let me know too. I'm gonna hug every listener there,
But will you go hug a nonlistener just like? Yeah? Well
then and I can see you you'renear us. Yeah, they're us broadcasting.
They probably know who I am.Anyway, that's true. Yeah,
that's a good point from the Bible. Hoods fair, very fair. So

(05:21):
I got that off my chest. Now we have this, and this means
that the day is just about done. But before we tear it on down,
gotta head that way. And whenyou head that way, you're heading

(05:41):
towards your place. It's Monday. You gotta stop in get the week started
off right, because it's your kindof place. It's a place where they
know you, you know them, place where you can just sort of ship
the day if you want to.It's a place where the lights are dim,

(06:08):
the music swings, but it's nevertoo loud with Louke Coben and the
Cobras, and you don't even haveto tell them when to make it a
double. It's a place where theskirts are tight and the necklines plunge.
Now you may think that those placesall went away years ago, they don't

(06:29):
exist anymore, and for the mostpart, you're right about that. But
there's always that one. There's alwaysthat one. There's always that one that
is the Sunset Lounge. So goon step inside the green door, cop
a squad at the bar, andget in the groove at the Sunset Lounge

(06:49):
with the speakeasy on ninety seven toone a freak, all right. I
think TC was demanding let in thelounge. You tell us about getting arrested
with pot or something? What wasit you get arrested with pot? Mike
and I were talking about yacht rock, as we'll often do, yeah,

(07:10):
during one of the breaks, andhe said that a significant but in this
setting, unnamed purveyor of yacht rockwas on hand when Mike was nearly arrested,
and I'd like to know every detailof that situation. Okay, well,
this happened, uh, probably aroundnineteen seventy six. I want to

(07:35):
say, how old were you?I would have been twenty six, okay.
And it happened in Houston, andI was down there gigging with a
band, very unsuccessful band. Ohno, when you're in Houston, you're

(07:56):
traveling for gigs. Yeah, that'sgood. How often did you gig in
Houston back then? A good amount. It's one year of band I was
in. Got hooked up with anagent down there, and he kept us
down there most of the time.Down in Houston, Galveston, Beaumont,
Port Arthur, awful cities. Ohno, that's tough. Yeah. But

(08:20):
anyway, this one night I wasn'tplaying, I went to see a band.
And the band that I went tosee was Christopher Cross. That was
the name of the band. Okay, Chris Cross will make you a jump,
that's not it, all right,a different deal altogether. Daddy macam

(08:43):
Okay, he was in a bandthat bore his name because he had a
cool name. Yeah, it isa cool name. And they were just
playing tunes at this joint down there, So I went to see him.
They were really good, really likedhim in everything. And I happened to
be with a guy that knew him, and they went on break and we

(09:07):
went outside, me and the guythat I was with and him and I
think there was another one of hisband that was there, and as you
would do back then, we decidedwe were going to towards that buel a
little bit absolutely torch the what buelllbuele buell is that a word for drug.

(09:30):
There was a slang for in somecircles for pot okay, not crack
then, no, no okay, nothing like that. And so we did.
And right about then, I guesswe weren't very discrete with it all.
I guess we thought we could juststand out there in the parking lot

(09:50):
and do it and you know, nothing would happen. Well, five Oho
drives up. That was kind ofa sneak attack because nobody saw him coming.
Never happy to see them coming onthere. And so I happen to
have it at the time, andI dropped it and tried to inconspicuously shift

(10:18):
my feet a little bit to wherethere you go, I was stepping on
it. Oh, you're going toget rid of it that way, though
you want to go to smoke itlater careful And I was able to maintain
that position while five Oho came overand shook us down and asked us what
we were doing out there. Wetold him we were just enjoying a nice

(10:39):
cigarette that smells like a plant.Where's the cigarette now? Then? Yeah,
it just left, Yeah, justleft. We just finished it,
had an appointment to get to andI guess five zero was either about to

(11:01):
get off shift was about over,or they just looked at us and thought,
nah, there's no reason to messwith this. I just don't care.
Yeah, they just got a bigdose of I just don't care that
washed over them. So what.I came over here because I thought I

(11:22):
cared, and suddenly I'm realizing,Yeah, I thought something really wicked might
be going on here, and it'snot. I don't see a big bundle
of pot or anything I'd have todo work. Did you ever have any
friends that get popped for marijuana possessionback at that time? Yeah? Oh
yeah, what was it like? Not good? They had a real problem

(11:43):
on their hands, because nowadays youcan't be arrested in the city for that.
Well, you have no idea howserious they used to be about it
back then. Well, it wasdifferent back then, because back then there
was a gateway drug Yeah. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, it
was all kinds of things back gaywaydrug was just one of them. It
was all kinds of things. Itwas it makes you sexually assault people and

(12:07):
everything. Yeah yeah back then.Yeah, it was a lot of different
things to a lot of different people, but none of them were good.
Yeah. I think people were wrongabout that. What I think it comes
from the earth. Well, alot of stuff comes from the earth.
Yeah, No, I always dolove that little line of reasoning. Everything
comes from the earth. That doesn'tmean you can do as much blow as

(12:30):
you want you'll die. Yeah, yeah, but five zero would drive up
on people like doing the same thingthat we were at a place similar to
what we were, and there wasa really good chance that nobody was going
to be walking away from that, that at least somebody was going to get
taken downtown. Do you think thatthe officer perhaps was just such a big

(12:54):
fan of the hit Sailing that hekind of took it easy on this group,
Well, the hit Sailing question wasnot on the radar screen as of
yet. This is a good probablythree to four years maybe five years before
the hit Sailing yeah emerged. Takesme Away. Yeah, that's pretty cool,

(13:20):
man, just be able to smokepot with Christopher Cross. That's something
I'd like to do. Have yousmoked pot with anyone? Yeah? For
sure? Oh? Famous? No? Yeah, smoked pipe? You never
have torched up with anybody famous?I don't think so, I don't nothing.

(13:43):
I figure that if I did havea really cool one that had ever
happened, I would probably keep thattop of mind at all times. Yeah.
What qualifies as famous? Yeah?Like how how how high up be
it to be to be famous?Because I don't even smoke pot? And
I might have smoked pot with someonewho's do you count? Dan McDowell?
I guess should be my follow up? That's famous? Right, that's very

(14:07):
famous? Then? Yes, okay, good, good for you. It's
very famous at very well known. Two one four seven eight seven one nine
seven one is the phone number thatyou're gonna need out there, not for
any particular reason unless you want tobe a part of the broadcast and oh,
I don't know sixty to ninety seconds. But what you want to do
is called two one four seven eightseven one nine seven one. And then

(14:28):

that I smoked pot with Mike Reiner. Sure that sounds nice. I'll,

easier. Listen, But that doesn'tsound easy at all. It's not easy,
